He took up flying and that was his profession for twenty-two and a half years, sitting at the controls of more than one hundred aircraft, mostly making a lot of noise, rather than speed which the noise indicated. In spite of it all, George felt the pleasure was worth the added suffering of weather, the cold winds and snow. He flew the airmail for five and one half years, three years of those, over the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevadas, all just a difficult job to do. After George and Clare were divorced, he went to Peru with the weather problem still existing. There for eleven more years he flew planes over the Andes Mountains. He felt that mountain flying was his appointed aptitude, but his health paid the price. He acquired vertigo and had to quit flying in June, 1947. The loss of his profession hurt him deeply, but he did not delay picking up another. He became the only diesel expert in the whole area. In the last few years George has been repairing typewriters and adding machines. In Peru George met and married Elisa Pezo in Yurimaguas, Peru. Elisa had a son, Napoleon, from a former marriage. George adopted the boy and he and Elisa had three more children, all born in Yurimaguas, Peru. When Goerge first arrived in Peru, he purchased several acres of jungle land along a tributary of the Amazon River . He attempted to grow crops on the land, but the jungle grew too fast and he was not able to keep up with it with his equipment. He decided to let the jungle alone for a few years while he worked and saved up money. He planned to try again to work the land. The socialist government of Peru had a different idea. It passed a law that if property owners were not developing or cultivating their land, the government would have the authority to confiscate the property for the benefit of the public treasury, without paying the property owners a single dime. That is exactly what they did to George, and he couldn't do a thing about it. In 1986, George was eighty-five years of age and bitter toward the government of Peru for taking away his family's chance for a good living made off the land, or the opportunity to sell it for a good price.” I have no idea who the Mary E. listed in 1930 is. He did marry Clare LaPean in Colorado April 11, 1931. They were later divorced and he married Elisa Pezo in Peru on August 11, 1952.
