Initially I will list the entries by Town and County. I
have then listed by the way they come up in the actual census to show proximity
to each other. This will give a better idea who lives near one another, and should
help in determining family groups. If possible, I have included the person’s
‘number’ based on the various books by Eben Putnam on the Putnam Family.

CONNECTICUT
1790 CENSUS
In the 1790 census, the columns in the report are for males over 16, males under 16 and females of all ages. If a 4th number is listed, it is a listing for ‘all other whites’ which generally meant an unrelated servant.
Listing is 1-3-3. He is number 936, a son of Jonathan Putnam (359) and Sarah Perley of Salem Village (now Danvers), Massachusetts. He was born there September 6, 1756. He married Olive Osborne (I believe here in Connecticut) in about 1880. He served in the Connecticut Militia in the Revolution. He will be here in 1800, and then die, and Olive and the kids (Nathan and Jeremiah) will be off to New York State. This line is Aaron (936) > Jonathan > Jonathan > Jonathan > John > John Putnam.
Listing is 1-1-1. He is not in the line of John Putnam of Salem, Mass. He was born in Yorkshire in the north of England in about 1760, but seems to have been in Gloucester in Southwest England prior to sailing over here. He came to Hartford in about 1785-86 with his brother Thomas, who continued up to Vermont. John married Hannah Dillings of Newington here in Wethersfield September 11, 1788. So far they have one child, John junior born in 1789. They are listed in Hartford in 1800 and 1810. John will die October 3, 1816, and Hannah will be here until she dies July 9, 1857.
Listing is 3-0-1. He is a son of Cornelius Putnam (339) and Elizabeth Perkins of Stafford, Tolland County. He was born in Royalston, Massachusetts September 21, 1765. Cornelius and his family were the only ones in this neck of the woods at that time. He has just married Miriam Pease of Somers, Tolland County on May 15, 1788. The two other men must be brothers (probably John and Reuben, not sure where they were in 1790) or boarders. They will be in Oneida County, New York by the 1800 census.
The listing is 1-2-1. He is number 906E, a son of Cornelius Putnam (339) and Elizabeth Perkins. He is married to Ruth Davis. The sons are Cornelius and Stephen. They will be off to New York State soon.
