1910 - 1930

There are a huge number of Patmans, Patmons, Pitmans and Pittmanns in George, both White and Black families. When I first did these censuses all I had were the Soundex Cards and many of the Putman entries turn out to be Patmans now that I can actually access the actual pages. Floyd County was a real mess till I could eliminate virtually all the entries I thought were Putmans but were Patmans that I could trace back and forward. Thanks Ancestry.com

GEORGIA 1910 CENSUS

ABRAM ALTON PUTMAN Adairsville, Bartow County

He is now 51 GA SC NC and Ella McElreath his wife 51 GA GA SC. They have been married 29 years and only Maria W. 18 GA is still at home. He owns his own farm. He is son of Thomas Putman and Lucinda Hurt from here. Thomas was a son of Ezekiel Putman from Hall County. Abraham was born in January 1859. He married Ella Albert McElreath here on November 21, 1880. She will die in July 1912, and he will die in January 1941. They are here in 1910. In 1920 he is widowed and living with his son Robert, and in 1930 they are in Whitfield County. Abe is 71 then and will be 82 when he dies in 1941.

ROBERT H. (HURT) PUTMAN Adairsville, Bartow County

Abe and Ella Putman's son is 25 GA GA GA, his wife of 5 years Maggie is 25 GA and they have Mettie 3 GA. He is a sharecropper, probably on his folk’s farm.

ANNA PUTMAN Taylorsville, Bartow County

She is 56 GA GA GA and widowed. Anna Millie Powell is Miles A. Putman' widow. Her son Grover Franklin Putman lives next door. Miles was a son of Thomas Putman and Lucinda Hart from here. In 1880 he was single and working on Anna’s parents farm here. They got married here December 10, 1880. They were here in 1900. He died here in September 1907. Anna is still widowed here in 1920. By 1930 she is in Cobb County with her married daughter Beulah.

FRANK PUTMAN Taylorsville, Bartow County

Miles and Anna Putman’ son Grover Franklin is a farmer 21 GA, born June 6, 1889. His wife Leona 18 GA and they have Alma 1 GA. They have been married 3 years. They are in Cobb County in 1920 and 1930.

BENDIGE PUTNAM Bowens Mill, Ben Hill County

He is 48 GA, his wife Clarissa 41 GA. This is a Black Family.

BURMAN PUTNAM Bowens Mill, Ben Hill County

He is 50 GA, Cora his wife 49 GA and they have 10 kids, 8 still at home. This is another Black Family.

RUBY PUTMAN Fitzgerald, Ben Hill County

He is Glen Reuben Putman, a son of Joel Putman from St. Clair County, Alabama. He is a city policeman 34 AL TX TX, Minnie is 40 GA and Ozille 6 GA. Minnie C. Worsley was a widow of an Ellis as there are three Ellis stepchildren there ages 20, 12 and 10 . This is a second marriage for both, and they have been married 10 years. He will be here and listed as Glen Reuben in 1920. He will remain here until he dies in 1939. He and Minnie will be divorced in 1921, and he will marry Mary Roberts, a widow, here in 1922, and they are here in 1930.

CHARLES H. (HENRY) PUTMAN Fitzgerald, Ben Hill County

He is a son of Henry Putman and his first wife Mary Ann and a grandson of Daniel Putman and Nancy McConnell from Hall County. He is a foreman in a car shop. He was in Sumter County in 1900. He is still a widower 40 GA GA GA with Mary L. 19 GA, Annie L. 16 GA and Ruth 12 GA still with him. He married Hattie L. Tynor on September 12, 1888 in Mitchell County and she died in the latter 1890s. He will be in Atlanta widowed in 1920. He married Louise Huffman there in 1924 and they are there in Atlanta in 1930.

CALAWAY PUTMAN Vaughn, Ben Hill County

He is 23 GA, his wife Annie 20 and 2 kids. This is a Black Family.

MARSHALL PUTMAN Turkey Creek, Carroll County

He is Marshall Nathaniel Putman a son of James Dorsey Putman and Susan Chaney. He is 27 GA GA GA, Dora Austin his wife of 7 years is 21 GA and they have Mary Ellen 4 GA. He was born January 6, 1883 and will die here June 28, 1969. His widowed Dad James D. Pumatm 72 GA GA GA is with them too. Marshall runs a farm, and James works in a gristmill. Still don’t know who James dad was though. They are here in 1920, though not indexed, and James will die here June 1, 1928. Marshall and his family are here in 1930. He will die here in 1969.

O. W. (ODIAN WILSON) PUTMAN Canton, Cherokee County

He is still around, now at age 78 GA KY SC, Martha E. Tate is 67 GA SC KY. They have been married 42 years. Their married daughter Lutie 28 GA and her husband Green B. Johnson 32 GA are living there as are their children Margery 6 GA and Elizabeth 3 GA. He is a son of David Putman and Lecy Castlebury from Hall County Georgia. David was a son of Thomas Putman. Odian was born March 31, 1832. He served in the Civil War in the 18th Georgia Infantry as a 2nd Lieutenant and was wounded at Sharpsburg, Maryland on September 17, 1862. He lost an arm at Gettysburg and was captured July 2, 1863. After the war, he returned home and married Martha Elizabeth Tate, a daughter of David Tate and Malena Putman, in Cherokee County on March 8, 1868. Martha was born September 29, 1842 and died in Canton, Georgia on May 20, 1927. Odian was a farmer and clerk of the Superior Court. He died on December 24, 1912.

JOHN W. PUTMAN Sixes, Cherokee County

He is 27 GA GA GA and married 4 years to Edith Tumlin. They were married here December 27, 1905. She is 26 GA and they have Ruby 3/12 GA. He runs a general store. They are in Birmingham, Alabama in 1920 and 1930. Ruby will die before then, but they will have a son John born later this year. He is a son of James William and Sarah Putman from here. He was born in June 1872.

J. W. (JAMES WILLIAM) PUTMAN Wild Cat, Cherokee County

Daniel's son is still here and the kids are long gone. He is 62 GA GA GA and Sarah is 56 GA. He is a son of Daniel Putman and Nancy McConnell from Hall County. Dan was a son of Ezekiel Putman. He was born July 8, 1847 and will die March 7, 1916. Sarah was born September 20, 1858 and is widowed here in 1920 and then will die December 12, 1920.

L. (LYNN) PUTMAN Wild Cat, Cherokee County

He is Lynn Putman a son of James W. and Sarah Putman. He is living with them at age 23 GA GA GA. He was born in June 1886. He is with his widowed mom and brother William in 1920 and 1930. He died in Holly Springs September 18, 1947 at age 61.

W. D. (WILLIAM DANIEL) PUTMAN Wild Cat, Cherokee County

He is another son of James W. and Sarah Putman. He too is living with his folks here in Wild Cat. William is 39 GA GA GA, born in August 1871. Agnes C. Poor his wife is 35 GA, James W. 6 GA and William Paul 1 GA. Also here is his youngest sister Lecy J. 14 GA. She is with them in 1920 too. They were married here December 7, 1902. They are in Holly Springs in 1920 and 1930. Will died in Holly Springs September 15, 1953 at age 82. Agnes died at age 88 on April 24, 1967.

HENRY M. PUTMAN Ackworth, Cobb County

Daniel's son is still around at age 76 GA, Della is 63 GA and Grace 23 GA is at home. He is a son of Daniel Putman and Nancy McConnell from Hall County. Daniel was a son of Ezekiel Putman from Hall County and South Carolina before that.

JOSEPH ALEXANDER PUTMAN Cross Keys, De Kalb County

He is 48 NC NC NC, Nancy Ellen Lemaster 53 SC SC SC and Nellie 16 SC and Roy 14 SC are at home. They have been married 30 years. He is a son of Arthur McLain Putman and Elvira Hill from North Carolina. He was born October 21, 1861 and will die April 17, 1939. He was born in Waco, North Carolina and Nancy was born in Glendale, South Carolina. They have been in Spartanburg County South Carolina up until now. I don’t find them after this, but Roy will be in Atlanta by then.

GEORGE PUTMAN Diamond, De Kalb County

This is a Black Family. He is 50 SC and his wife Lilly 21 GA. It is his second, her first marriage of 5 years.

C. F. (CHARLES FRANCIS) PUTMAN Albany, Dougherty County

He is Charles Putnam, 68 KY KY KY and Louisa Cotton his wife is 58 IN. There are no children. They live in Albany, Georgia and he has a retail grocery store. He and Louisa were in Taylor County Kentucky in the 1880 census. He is a son of Dr. Joseph Whitney Putnam of Louisville. Line came out of Massachusetts back in around 1815, and settled in Louisville, Kentucky.

ELIZABETH PUTMAN Brooks, Fayette County

She is 24 GA and divorced. She is living with her parents Samuel and Martha Belcher. She has a 3 year old daughter, Velma. She was probably married to one of Joel Putman’s sons. Either Francis Auby or Theodore Sansom Putman. Both are missing in this census. It is probably Francis who has headed to Texas and is there in 1920. Velma will still be with her grandparents, but they are in Atlanta in 1920.

J. M. (JOEL MADISON) PUTMAN Brooks, Fayette County

Joel is a farmer and is 53 AL SC AL, Matilda Sansom is 51 GA, Harry 22 GA (a blacksmith), Coleman 20 GA and Inez 15 GA . He was born July 18, 1856 and will die July 23, 1923. Matilda was born August 14, 1856. They were in Spalding County in 1880 and are here in 1910. He will die here of prostate cancer July 23, 1923. He is a son of Joel Allen Putman and Malinda Ann Sansom from St. Clair County Alabama and then Spalding County Georgia. He was born July 18, 1856. Matilda was born August 14, 1856. They were in Spalding County in 1880 and here in 1900. He will die here of prostate cancer July 23, 1923.

JAMES O. (OSCAR) PUTMAN Shake Rag, Fayette County

Francis' son has moved from Spalding County. He is now 35 GA GA GA, Sallie Pollard is 27 GA, Clessie (?) a daughter 9 GA, Curtis 8 GA, Gervice (Jarvis?) a son 6 GA, Madge 3 GA and Cecil ? months GA. He is a sawyer at a lumber mill. He is a son of Francis Allen Putman and Henrietta Sansom. He was born in March 1874, and married Sally Alma Pollard in February 1900. They live next to her folks Guy and Henrietta Pollard. In 1900 they were in Spalding County Georgia. I don’t find them in 1920, but in 1930 he is widowed with the kids in Campbell County.

WALTER L. PUTMAN Walters, Floyd County

He is a son of Abraham Alton Putman and Ella McElreath from Barton County. Abraham was a son of Thomas Putman and Lucinda Hurt from Hall County Georgia and then Bartow County. He is 29 GA GA GA, Harriett E. 24 GA GA GA, Annie 2 GA and Ella Jane 1 GA. They will be in Cobb County in 1920 and 1930 and probably longer.

JAMES E. (ERWIN) PUTMAN Roylston, Franklin County

He was here in 1900. He is now 52 SC, Josephine Lippe is 45 SC, Andrew Burt 26 SC, Carl 24, Charley 22, Quil (William Quillan) 17, Stokes 16, Forest 14, Kate 10 and Sam Joe 8. All the kids except Burt were born in GA. He is James Erwin Putman a son of James Hamilton Putman and Susan Hancock from Oconee County South Carolina. He was born in Pickens County February 10, 1857, and died August 24, 1930 in Habersham County, Georgia. He married Josephine Lippe April 1, 1880 in Oconee County. They moved to Royston, Franklin County, Georgia in about 1884, and were there in 1900 and 1910. In 1920 and 1930 they are in Habersham County. They farmed and later ran a café in Clarkesville, Georgia. The son Andrew's middle name is actually Byrd, he will remain here all his life and die in Roylston, Franklin County on September 3, 1936.

AUGUSTA J. PUTNAM Atlanta, Fulton County

She is Augusta Jane Porter the widow of Israel Putnam who died here in 1889. She is now 70 GA NC GA and widowed. She lives with her married daughter Clifford Hammond 47 GA and her husband Theodore Hammond 49 GA who is a lawyer. She will be here with them in 1920 and 1930. She will die in Atlanta December 8, 1930 and be buried in Spalding County along with her husband Israel.

MARCUS C. (CLYDE) PUTNAM Atlanta, Fulton County

He is 24 SC NC NC and his wife Carrie E. is 19 SC. They have been married 2 years and have Margaret E. 1 6/12 NC. He is a house carpenter. He is Marcus Clyde Putman a son of Joseph Alexander Putman and Nancy Ellen LeMaster from Spartanburg South Carolina. His dad was born in Waco, North Carolina. His folks are near by in DeKalb County. They came down around 1900. They are here in 1920 and in Lakeland, Florida in 1930.

PERCY PUTMAN Atlanta, Fulton County

He is a fire insurance special agent 37 GA GA GA and his wife Elizabeth Lewis is 31 CT GA GA. They have been married 7 years and have a daughter Elizabeth 6 GA. He is a son of Israel Putnam who was a son of James Madison Putnam. James was one of Henry Putnam’s kids. They are here in 1920 living with her widowed mother Annie Lewis. New England folks that came to South Carolina in the 1700s.

JOHN PUTMAN District 24, Gordon County

He is John Robert Putman a son of Willie Woods Putnam and his first wife Sarah Nolan. He is 32 GA GA GA, Annie Swan 30 GA, George 12 GA, Jodie 8 GA, Myra 5 GA. His brother in law Jim Swan 24 GA is with them. Annie’s folks Joseph 61 NC and Callie Swan 56 GA live next door. John was born August 9, 1877 and will die here January 16, 1919. He married Annie Swan in Gordon County on February 28, 1897. They were here in 1900. He is a farmer like everyone else in the family. In 1920 Anne is shown as a widow with two children. In 1930 she is in Etowah, McMinn County Tennessee with two of her then married kids.

WILLIE W. PUTMAN District 24, Gordon County

Willie is now 56 GA UNK GA, Rhonda Holcomb 38 GA, Pearl 15 GA, Emma 13 GA, Mary Ann 12 GA, Dewey 11 GA, Robert Lee 10 GA, Henry G. 9 GA, Howard 3 GA. Vianna is his third wife and they have been married 16 years. He is Willie Wood Putman and his wife Rhonda Vianna Holcomb. His mother was Hepsey Williams and I have no idea yet on who his dad John Putman or Putnam was. Willie was born July 31, 1854 in Ellijay, Gilmer County Georgia. He will die here at age sixty-three on October 31, 1917 in Ranger, Gordon County Georgia. His first wife was Sarah Noland or Nolan. They were married in Murray County Georgia on September 26, 1874. Sarah was born in North Carolina on December 8, 1859 and died in Georgia on March 2, 1889. After Sarah died on March 2, 1889. Willie married Sarah Murray later in 1889. After the second Sarah died on July 20, 1893, Willie married Rhonda Vianna Merinda Holcomb on August 27, 1893. She was a daughter of Henry Snow Holcomb and Rhonda Ann Bates. Vianna was born January 7, 1872 in Birmingham, Georgia and died in Ranger, Georgia on October 28, 1955. Willie had another batch of kids with Vianna, some twelve or more that I have names for. There were some 22-24 kids all told.

WILLIAM H. (HUTTEN) PUTMAN Cornelia, Habersham County

He is a son of John Wade Putman and Mary Clevie Lancaster from Spartanburg County South Carolina and then Atlanta, and grandson of Arthur McLain Putman and Elvira Emeline Hill of Wake County North Carolina. He is 28 SC SC SC, Mary Jane Ware 31 GA, Willie a daughter 8, John 5 SC, Marion a son 3 GA and Albert 6 months GA. They will be in Atlanta in 1920. He was born October 11, 1880 and will die May 12, 1945. He married Mary Jane Ware. They are in Atlanta, Georgia by 1920 and in Cobb County in 1930.

THOMAS MONROE PUTMAN Steadman, Haralson County

He is a son of Silas Cass Putman and Nancy Meadows from Cherokee County Alabama. They were in Calhoun County, Alabama in 1900. He is 33 AL AL AL. Lettie Ollie Wheeler his wife is 32 GA AL GA. They have been married 13 years and have William D. 12 AL, Annie M. 10 AL, Mollie E. 8 AL, Nora B. 4 AL and Bessie P. 1 GA. He is a farmer. He was born May 6, 1876 and died July 18, 1934. He married Lettie Ollie Williams in Cherokee County, Alabama on August 22, 1896. She was born February 16, 1878 and died May 25, 1950. They were in Calhoun County Alabama in 1900 with her and two children. Then they are here in Haralson County Georgia in 1910 and in 1920, and then back in Calhoun County by 1930.

HUSTON C. (CHARLES) PUTMAN Shuck Pen, Murray County

Robert's son has moved from Whitfield County and married. He is 29 GA GA GA, Sarah Amanda Henson his wife is 24 GA, and they have Oscar 4 GA, Eddie 3 GA, Hattie 1 GA and James E. 3 months old GA. They have been married 6 years, and live next to her folks John T. and Mary C. Henson. He is a son of Robert Clinton Putnam and Lucy Thomas from Gordon County. He was born there on August 31, 1880 and will die July 23, 1936. He married Sarah Amanda Henson on October 12, 1904. She was born November 16, 1884 and will die December 6, 1961. They will be in Whitfield County by 1920 and stay there the rest of their lives.

FRANK B. (BURKE) PUTMAN Africa, Spalding County

Francis Allen Putman' son is 28 GA AL AL, Emma Kennedy his wife is 33 GA and Merrill 2 GA. They have been married 8 years. He was born March 24, 1874. He died in Spalding County, Georgia October 25, 1945. They are here in 1920.

PAUL PUTMAN Africa, Spalding County

He is 25 GA GA GA, Addie Maude Fulham 24 GA GA GA and they have Ernest P. 1 GA. They aren’t indexed in 1920 but are here in 1930 with 10 kids. He is a son of Francis Allen Putman and Henrietta Sansom from here in Spalding County. They live with Maude’s parents James and Susan Fulham. He is a blacksmith at a rock quarry. He was born February 19, 1885 and He will die here June 21, 1959 at age 74. Maude will die March 20, 1975.

JOHN E. (EDWARD) PUTMAN Line Creek, Spalding County

He is a farmer 34 GA GA GA. His wife Mary Ann Harrison is 36 GA GA GA and they now have Edward O. 12 GA, Eulice 10 GA, Ethelene 8 GA, Olivia 6 GA, Lotte Belle 3 GA. He is a son of Sanford Allen Putman and his first wife Marie Leach. He was born March 4, 1876. He married Mary Ann Harrison in Spalding County, Georgia on December 20, 1895. He will die here April 30, 1924. Mary Ann will die December 28, 1936. They live next to his brother Judge Allen Putman.

JUDGE A. (ALLEN) PUTMAN Line Creek, Spalding County

He is a son of Sanford Allen Putman. He is 30 GA GA GA, Hattie Williams 34 GA, Gladys 10 GA, Lois 8 GA, Lloyd 6 GA and Clark 4 GA. He was born August 21, 1879. He married Hattie Williams December 29, 1898. They are here in 1920 and 1930. He died January 5, 1939.

SANFORD A. (ALLEN) PUTMAN Line Creek, Spalding County

He is now 59 GA GA GA, Nancy Harrison 42 GA and all the kids are gone now. He was born October 20, 1850. He married Marie E. Leach about 1871 and they had 7 children. Marie died March 15, 1903 and Sanford married Nancy Harrison on January 27, 1904. He will die May 29, 1920 and Nancy will die July 27, 1945, both in Spalding County Georgia.

SANFORD E. (ELLIS) PUTMAN Line Creek, Spalding County

He is a son of the above Sanford Putman. He is 32 GA, Stella Maynard 33 GA and they have Mattie 10 GA. He was born January 20, 1878. He married Estelle Maynard on October 17, 1897. He died April 10, 1936. Stella died January 26, 1965 at age 88.

JAMES W. PUTMAN Toccoa, Stephens County

The listing is indexed as James, but is an error as it is Cossie Philip Putman we have here. In 1920 the family will be here headed by Cossie Putman who was a son of Benjamin Franklin Putman from Cleveland County, North Carolina. Cossie married Ida Ellis and had this family plus some more in the 1920s. At any rate the listing is, James is 35 GA GA GA, Ida Ellis 36 GA, Cecil 6 GA, Dorcas 5 GA, Ethel 3 GA and Addie 1 GA.

JOEL A. (ALBERT) PUTMAN Ashburn City, Turner County

He is Francis Allen Putman's son from Spalding County. He is 39 GA AL AL, Amanda Seymour his wife 39 GA, Clark A.19 GA, Eunice 14 GA, Mamie 12 GA and Nellie 10 GA. He is a Warden in a Prison. He was born October 19, 1869. He was married in Dooly County in 1900. He is by himself in Ashburn in 1920 and 1930. From a relative, it seems they divorced and neither ever remarried. Amanda is in Macon, Bibb County in 1920 and 1930 and says she is widowed to avoid embarrassment. Amanda was born August 24, 1869 and will die in Macon on September 15, 1970 at age 101.

JAMES R. (ROBERT) PUTMAN Dalton, Whitfield County

Robert and Louisa Putnam's son is now 33 GA GA GA. His second wife Elma Prince is 26 GA GA GA, Maude 9 GA, Charley 5 GA, Claude 4 GA, William Robert 2 GA and Edna 7 months old GA. Also here is her widowed mother Matilda A. Prince 59 GA and her sister Ellen E. Prince 15 GA. They have been married 6 years. He is James Robert Putman a son of Robert C. Putman, also here in town. He was born July 7, 1875 and died January 22, 1946. He married three times. First to Eva Louella Mitchell on March 17, 1895. She was born March 10, 1875 and died September 19, 1900. They had three children, including a son that died at birth. He then married Elma Ada Prince on July 3, 1903 and they had eight more children. She was born May 17, 1883 and died April 9, 1927. He is here in 1920 and in Walker County in 1930. He later married, about 1929, a widow named Catherine Brannon Cooper Goad and they had one more child before Catherine died September 1, 1931. James made it till January 22, 1946.

JOSEPH L. (LAFAYETTE) PUTNAM Dalton, Whitfield County

Robert and Louisa Putnam's son is a farmer 25 GA GA GA. His wife Martha J. Ledford is 25 NC GA NC, and they have Arthur L. 1 GA. He was born March 9, 1885 and will die July 9, 1952. He married Martha Jane Gibson December 22, 1907. She was born October 2, 1884 and will die November 17, 1957. They are in Gordon County in 1920, and back in Tilton, Whitfield County in 1930. He lives next to his brother James.

ROBERT C. (CLINTON) PUTNAM Tilton, Whitfield County

John's son is 56 GA GA SC, Louisa Thomas is 55 GA NC KY and Pearl is 14 GA. They have been married 37 years now. He is Robert Clinton Putman, the twin brother of Willie Wood Putman in Gordon County. His folks were a John Putnam or Putman and Hepsey Teete. Have no idea who John was or belonged to. He was born July 31, 1854. He married Lucy Louisa Thomas in Gordon County on November 30, 1873. Louisa was born October 14, 1856. Robert Putnam died August 21, 1926 and Louisa died a few weeks later on October 6, 1926.

WILLIAM H. (HENRY) PUTMAN Tilton, Whitfield County

He is a farmer 35 GA GA GA, Lillie M. Young his wife is 37 SC AR SC, Ethel C. 14 GA, Alice L. 12 GA, Fred W. 7 GA and Henry C. 2 GA. He is William Henry Putnam a son of Robert Clinton Putman and Louisa Thomas also here in Whitfield County. He was born December 27, 1878 and died January 20, 1938. He married Mary Lillie Young October 19, 1894. Mary was born April 3, 1875 and died at age 96 on August 24, 1969. They are here through 1920, and back in Gordon County in 1930.

GEORGIA 1920 CENSUS

ALTON PUTMAN Adairsville, Bartow County

Abram Alton Putman is now 62 GA GA GA and widowed since Ella McElreath has died in July 1912. He is son of Thomas Putman and Lucinda Hurt from here. Thomas was a son of Ezekiel Putman from Hall County. Abraham was born in January 1859. He married Ella Albert McElreath here on November 21, 1880. They were here in 1910. He is living with his son Robert Hurt Putman. They are in Whitfield County in 1930. He will die there in January 1941.

ANNA PUTMAN Taylorsville, Bartow County

She is listed as 51 GA. Miles widow is still here. Miles was a son of Thomas Putman and Lucinda Hart from here. In 1880 he was single and working on Anna’s parents’ farm here. They got married here December 10, 1880. He died here in September 1907. By 1930 she is in Cobb County with her then married daughter Beulah.

ROBERT HURT PUTMAN Adairsville, Bartow County

He is 46 TX, Minnie (Worsley) Ellis 49 GA and they have a daughter Ozella 15 GA. He was listed Ruby in 1910 and was a policeman. He now has a blacksmith shop. He and Minnie will get divorced in 1921 and in 1922 he will marry Mary Roberts and they are here in 1930. He is Glen Reuben, son of Joel Putman from St. Clair County, Alabama. He will be here in Ben Hill County until he dies August 26, 1939.

MANDA PUTMAN Macon, Bibb County

She is 50 GA with a daughter Nell 19 GA. She is Amanda Seymour and was married to Joel Albert Putman and they were in Turner County in 1910. They were divorced. She will be here in 1930 and Nellie will marry Maynard Smith here later this year.

MARTHA PUTMAN Cherokee County

Martha Tate is the widow of Odian Wilson Putman 77 living with her daughter Lutie and her husband Green Johnston in Canton. Odian died here December 24, 1912. Martha will die here May 20, 1927.

WILLIAM D. (DANIEL) PUTMAN Cherokee County

James' son is 48, Agnes C. Poor 41, James W. 16, William D. Junior 10, Kathy 8, Henry Lee 1. Also there are his mother Sallie 68, and his brother Lynn 33 and his sister Lecie J. 24. They are here in Holly Springs in 1930. His dad died here March 7, 1916, and his mother Sallie will die soon on December 12, 1920.

FRANK GROVER PUTMAN Cobb County

Miles and Anna Putman's son has moved from Bartow County. He is now 30, Leona 28, Alma 11, Hugh 9, Annie May 5, Iva R. 4 and Ruby B. 18 months. They are here in 1930. He is a farmer.

Abraham Alton's son is 39, Harriett 43, Pauline 12, Ella Jane 10, Will A. 8 and Beulah M. 6. They were in Floyd County in 1910 and will be here in 1930.

CLYDE PUTMAN Atlanta, De Kalb County

He is 34 SC NC SC, Carrie 28 SC and they have Marguerite 11 NC. Marcus Clyde is a stationary engineer, and a son of Joseph Alexander Putman from Spartanburg County S.C. and Gaston County N.C. before that. They were here in Atlanta in 1910 and are in Lakeland, Florida by 1930.

WILLIAM A. (ALLEN) PUTNAM Atlanta, De Kalb County

He is 24 NY NY NY single and boarding. He works for an oil company. He is a son of William Allen Putnam and Carolyn Richards Haines. He was born in Brooklyn New York and was at home there in 1910. The family was from Massachusetts before that.

STOKES PUTMAN Elberton, Elbert County

He is a son of James Erwin Putman from Franklin County. He is 25 GA, Willie Berryman his wife 23 GA, Felton 5 GA, Robert 3 GA. He works for Bell South Telephone Company. They are in Marietta, Cobb County in 1930. He will die in Hall County, Georgia on January 18, 1981.

WILLIAM COLEMAN PUTMAN Brooks, Fayette County

Joel Mathis Putman and Matilda Sansom’s son ‘Buck’ is 31 GA, Odessa Goodman his wife is 27 GA, Coleman Junior 5 GA, Allen 4 GA and Julia 1 GA. They are here in 1930 and will be till they die. He was born October 12, 1888. He married Odessa Goodman in about 1913. She was born May 16, 1892 and died in Fayette County, Georgia October 23, 1942. Buck died there as well, on July 3, 1954.

HARRY G. PUTMAN Brooks, Fayette County

He is a son of Joel Mathis Putman and Matilda Sansom from Fayette County. He is 34 GA GA GA, Ollie Belle Love is 29 GA, Tyrus 7 GA, Cathy 5 GA, Sarah 3 GA. Ollie's mom, Sallie Love age 54 GA is with them. He is a machinist in a repair shop.

He is now living with his in-laws, the Detters. He is 37 SC, Jessie Deter 27 GA, James and Willis twins born in July 1918. He is a son of James Erwin Putman from here.

AUGUSTA J. PUTNAM Atlanta, Fulton

Augusta Jane Porter, widow of Israel Putnam who died in 1889, was here in 1910 and will be in 1930. She isn’t indexed but is with her married daughter Clifford Hammond and her husband Theodore Augustus Hammond. She is 80 now. She will be right here in 1930 at age 90 and then die December 8, 1930. Her daughter Clifford will die here in 1933 as well. New England Line that came into South Carolina in the 1770s and into Georgia in the 1800s. Putnam County is named for Israel Henry Putnam as best I can figure.

CHARLES H. (HENRY) PUTMAN Atlanta, Fulton County

He is 51 GA living alone in Atlanta. He is Henry's son up from Ben Hill County. He will marry Lou Huffman in 1924 and they will be here in 1930. He was married to Hattie Tynor in Mitchell County September 12, 1888, but was widowed in Sumter County by 1900.

His real name must be Edward. John was a son of Martin Mulford Putman and Elizabeth Barnes from Norfolk Ontario. He was at home there in 1851. This is a Dutch line out of New York. He is a plumber 29 GA (should be SC), Lanie Andrews his wife 32 GA and they are in Atlanta. John Franklin Putman is a son of John Wade Putman and Mary Lancaster. They came to Atlanta in the early 1900s and his dad died here in 1917. His mother Mary is listed shortly. They will all be together here in 1930 and probably are now.

He is 62 GA AL AL and Malinda Sansom 62 AL. They are living in Atlanta with their daughter Arlena and her husband R. L. Beddington. He is a son of Joel Allen Putman and his first wife Narcissa Coker and was born in St. Clair County Alabama July 18, 1856 and will die here of prostate cancer on July 23, 1923.

He is an insurance agent 45 GA GA GA and his wife Elizabeth Lewis is 40 CT GA GA. They have a daughter Elizabeth 16 GA. They were married in 1902 and here in 1910. They now live with her widowed mother Annie Lewis 76 GA in Atlanta. He is a son of Israel Putnam who was a son of James Madison Putnam. James was one of Henry Putnam’s kids. New England folks that came to South Carolina in the 1700s.

VELMA PUTMAN Atlanta, Fulton County

She is 13 GA GA GA and listed as a granddaughter of Sam and Martha Belcher. She was with them in Fayette County in 1910. Her mother Elizabeth was there then too and was divorced. She was probably married to one of Joel Putman’s sons. Either Francis Auby or Theodore Sansom Putman. Both are missing in that census.

He is a son of William Alexander Putman and Zulia Bridges from Cleveland County, North Carolina. He was born July 24, 1883 and died December 20, 1947 in Carroll County, Georgia. He married Belle Mary Chumm December 20, 1907. He is 36 NC NC NC and Mary Belle Chumm is 28 AL. He is a welder in a sheet metal shop., and she makes overalls in a clothing shop. They are here in College Park still in 1930. They never had children.

She is the widow of John Putnam. She is 39 GA, George 22 GA and Myra 14 GA. They are all in McMinn County, Tennessee in 1930 and both the kids are married by then.

Willie Wood's son is 37 GA GA NC and a lumber contractor. His wife Ida Blackwell is 41 GA, Willie T. 17 GA, Lucille 15 GA, Sammie a daughter 13 GA and John R. 8 GA. He will have a new wife Emma and they are in Harlan, Kentucky by 1930. The son John R. is there too. Sam was born August 26, 1882 and died November 14, 1950. He married Ida Blackwell in Gordon County on December 8, 1901.

He is Willie Woods’ son. He is 35 GA GA GA, Cora Bell Kell is 33 GA and John L. is 5 months old GA. They are living with her folks John and Martha Kell. All of them, even her folks, will be in Pine Grove, De Kalb County, Alabama in 1924 and be there in the 1930.

VIANNA PUTMAN Twenty Fourth, Gordon County

Vianna Holcomb is Willie Wood Putnam's third wife and now widow and is 47 GA GA GA, Pearl 25 GA, (William) Dewey 21 GA, Lee 20 GA, Grady 18 GA, Howard 13 GA, Jewel 9 GA, and Chad 6 GA. Willie was born July 31, 1854 in Ellijay, Gilmer County Georgia. He died at age sixty-three on October 31, 1917 in Ranger, Gordon County Georgia. His folks were a John Putnam or Putman and Hepsey Teete. Have no idea who John was or belonged to. Vianna is here in 1930 and will be till she dies in 1955.

JOE PUTNAM Sugar Valley, Gordon County

Joseph Lafayette Putman is 34 GA, Martha Ledford 34 NC, Arthur 11 GA, Myrtle 6 GA, Hinkle 4 GA and J. L. (Joseph Lafayette junior) 2 GA. He is a son of Robert C. Putnam and Lucy Thomas from here. He was born March 9, 1885 and will die July 9, 1952. He married Martha Jane Gibson December 22, 1907. She was born October 2, 1884 and will die November 17, 1957. They were in Dalton, Whitfield County in 1910, and are back in Tilton, Whitfield County in 1930.

He is 23 GA living alone. He is Forrest Sumner Putman, a son of James Erwin and Josie Putman. He was with his folks in Franklin County in 1910. He will marry Pearl Gable here in 1922 and they will move to Akron, Ohio where he’ll work for Goodyear Tire Company. They are there in 1930.

He has moved from Franklin County. This time he lists GA as a birthplace, but it has been SC in the past. He is 62 GA, Josephine Lippe 55 GA, Quillian 27 GA, Sam Joe 19 GA, Kate 17 GA, and Charlie 30 GA is there with his own family. His wife Ola is 25 GA and they have James B. 8 GA, Harry R. 6 GA and Frances 2 GA. He is James Erwin Putman a son of James Hamilton Putman and Susan Hancock from Oconee County South Carolina. He lists himself as a general merchant so must have a store here. He was born in Pickens County February 10, 1857, and died August 24, 1930 in Habersham County, Georgia. He married Josephine Lippe April 1, 1880 in Oconee County. They moved to Royston, Franklin County, Georgia in about 1884, and were there in 1900 and 1910. In 1920 and 1930 they are in Habersham County. They farmed and later ran a café in Clarkesville, Georgia. By 1930 Charles is divorced and Quillian is married. James and Josie and the rest are all here in 1930.

Silas Cass's son is 43 AL GA GA, Lettie Williams 41 GA, Annie 20 GA, Mattie 18 GA, Emily 14 GA, Bessie 11 GA, Althena 7 GA, Claude 5 GA and Flora 5 GA. They were here in 1910 and will be back across the line in Calhoun County, Alabama in 1930. He is a son of Silas Cass Putman and Nancy Meadows from Cherokee County Alabama. He is a farmer. He was born May 6, 1876 and died July 18, 1934. He married Lettie Ollie Williams in Cherokee County Alabama on August 22, 1896. She was born February 16, 1878 and died May 25, 1950. They were in Calhoun County Alabama in 1900 with her and two children. Then they are here in Haralson County Georgia in 1910 and in 1920, and then back in Calhoun County by 1930.

Francis Allen Putman' son Frank Burke Putman is 38 GA, Emma Kennedy 43 GA, Merrill 14 GA. A Mrs. J. R. Kennedy 60 is with them and listed as mother. She is actually Emma's mom. He was born March 24, 1874. He died in Spalding County, Georgia October 25, 1945. They were here in 1910.

He is John Edward Putman son of Sanford Allen Putman. He is 44 GA GA GA, Mary Ann Harrison his wife 46 GA, Eunice 19 GA, Etheline 17 GA, Oliver 16 GA, Lottie B. 13 GA, Raymond 5 GA. He was born March 4, 1876. He married Mary Ann Harrison in Spalding County on December 20, 1895. He will die here April 30, 1924. Mary Ann is widowed here by 1930. She will die here December 28, 1936.

Sanford Allen Putman's son Sanford Ellis Putman is 42, Stella Maynard 43, Della 20 and Grace ?? He was born January 20, 1878. Stella was born November 1876. He married Stella Maynard on October 17, 1897. He died April 10, 1936. Estelle died January 26, 1965 at age 88.

JUDGE ALLEN PUTMAN Line Creek, Spalding County

Sanford's son is 40 GA, Hattie Williams his wife is 43 GA, Lois 18 GA, Lloyd 16 GA, Clark 14 GA. He was born August 21, 1879. He married Hattie Williams December 29, 1898. They are here in 1930. He died January 5, 1939.

SANFORD A. (ALLEN) PUTMAN Line Creek, Spalding County

He is now 69 GA SC SC, Nancy Harrison 53 GA. He was born October 20, 1850. He married Marie E. Leach about 1871 and they had 7 children. Marie died March 15, 1903 and Sanford married Nancy Harrison on January 27, 1904. He will die May 29, 1920 and Nancy will die July 27, 1945, both here in Spalding County

COSSIE PUTMAN Toccoa, Stephens County

This is Cossie Philip Putman, son of Benjamin Franklin from North Carolina. He is 39 NC, Ida Ellis 38 NC, Cecil C. 16 NC, Dorcas E. 15 NC, Ethel G. 12 GA, Addie Sue 11 GA, Mary Lee 6 GA, Ida L. 5 GA and James T. 1 GA. This family was listed here in 1910 under James W. Putman from Georgia as were Ida and the kids over 10 now. It was a screwed up entry and it was Cossie all the time. He is supposed to be here all his life till he dies in 1959, but I don’t find them here or anywhere in 1930.

He is 35 GA, Annie 30 GA, Budge 9 GA, Mattie Lee 6 GA and Eula M. 5 GA. This is a black family.

JOEL PUTMAN Ashburn, Turner County

Francis' son is alone and divorced at age 48 AL. He is listed in the Turner County Prison Camp. He is listed as Warden for a road gang and was also a Warden in 1910. He and Amanda Seymour were here in 1910 and then got divorced. Joel Albert Putman is a son of Francis Allen Putman ad Henrietta Sansom from Spalding County. He was married to Amanda Seymour in Dooley County in 1900 and here in 1910. From a relative, it seems they divorced and neither ever remarried. Amanda is in Macon, Bibb County in 1920 and 1930 and says she is widowed to avoid embarrassment. Amanda was born August 24, 1869 and will die in Macon on September 15, 1970 at age 101.

J. C. PUTMAN Varnell, Whitfield County

He is 2 8/12 GA and listed as a brother in law with Lee and Maude Gilbert. Maude Louella Putman was born July 30, 1900 and died August 6, 1976. She married Lee Gilbert on August 8, 1918. J. C. listed here is actually Eugene Webster Putnam born September 9, 1917. They are kids of James Robert Putman. Eugene is also listed at home now.

Robert Putnam's son is now 40 GA, Sarah Amanda Henson 35 GA, Oscar 14 GA, Eddie 13 GA, Hattie 11 GA, James 9 GA, Mary 7 GA, Effie May 5 GA, Cecil 3 GA, William 2 GA and Robert 1 GA. He is a son of Robert Clinton Putnam and Lucy Thomas from Gordon County. He was born there on August 31, 1880 and will die July 23, 1936. He married Sarah Amanda Henson on October 12, 1904 in Murray County. She was born November 16, 1884 and will die December 6, 1961. They were in Murray County in 1910 and now are back here forever.

JAMES ROBERT PUTNAM Ninth District, Whitfield County

Robert's son is 43 GA GA GA, Elma Prince his second wife is 36 GA, Charles M. 15 GA, Claude J. 13 GA, William R. 12 GA, Pauline E. 10 GA, John O. 7 GA, Agnes 5 GA and Eugene 2 GA. He is James Robert Putman a son of Robert C. Putman, also here in town. He was born July 7, 1875 and died January 22, 1946. He married three times. First to Eva Louella Mitchell on March 17, 1895. She was born March 10, 1875 and died September 19, 1900. They had three children, including a son that died at birth. He then married Elma Ada Prince on July 3, 1903 and they had eight more children. She was born May 17, 1883 and died April 9, 1927. He later married, about 1929, a widow named Catherine Brannon Cooper Goad. They are in Walker County in 1930. They had one more child before Catherine died September 1, 1931. James made it till January 22, 1946.

ROBERT C. PUTNAM Carbondale, Whitfield County

He is now 65 GA GA SC and Eliza (Louisa Thomas) his wife 64 GA and the kids are all on their own. He is Robert Clinton Putman. His folks were a John Putnam or Putman and Hepsey Teete. Have no idea who John was or belonged to. He was born July 31, 1854. He married Lucy Louisa Thomas in Gordon County on November 30, 1873. Louisa was born October 14, 1856. Robert Putnam will die August 21, 1926 and Louisa will die a few weeks later on October 6, 1926.

WILLIAM H. PUTNAM Carbondale, Whitfield County

Robert C.'s son is 45 GA, Mary Lillie Young his wife 46 GA, Fred 16 GA, Clinton 12 GA, and Ben 7 GA. He is William Henry Putnam a son of Robert Clinton Putman and Louisa Thomas here in Carbondale. In fact they still live with them or right next door. He was born December 27, 1878 and died January 20, 1938. He married Mary Lillie Young October 19, 1894. Mary was born April 3, 1875 and died at age 96 on August 24, 1969. They were here in 1900 and 1910, and are in Gordon County in 1930.

AMANDA PUTMAN Macon, Bibb County

She is 60 GA and ‘widowed.’ Amanda Seymour was married to Joel Albert Putman and they were in Turner County in 1910. They were divorced around 1915 and she was here in 1920. She was born August 24, 1869 and will die here in Macon on September 15, 1970 at age 101.

He is 54 GA GA GA and widowed. He operates a sawmill here. He was married to Sally Alma Pollard and was in Fayette County in 1910. I don’t find them in 1920 so not sure when she died, but it would be in the early 1920s. He has Curtis a daughter 27 GA, Sybil 18 GA, James O. Jr. 16 GA, Wendell 14 GA, and Agnes 11 GA. He is a son of Francis Allen Putman and Henrietta Sansom from Spalding County.

MARSHALL N. (NATHANIEL) PUTNAM Shiloh, Carroll County

He is 47 GA KY GA and a farmer. Dora Austin his wife is 41 AL. He is a son of James Dorsey Putman and Susan Chaney. He was with the family here in 1900, and married here by 1910. He was born January 6, 1883 and will die here June 28, 1969. Dora was born in 1888, and will die soon afterward on December 13, 1970.

MOSSIE PUTMAN Trion, Chattooga County

She is 20 GA and married. Her son James E. is 5 AL. She lives with her folks William and Frances Phipps. No husband is around though.

WILL D. (WILLIAM DANIEL) PUTNAM Holly Springs, Cherokee County

He is 58 GA GA GA, Agnes Poor 52 GA, James W. 25 GA, Paul 20 GA, Ruth 18 GA, Harold 8 GA. His brother Lynn 42 GA is still with him. He is a son of James W. and Sarah Putman from here. His widowed mother was here with him in 1920. The son William Paul will marry Leavy Howell here on March 23, 1935, and the son Harold Daniel will marry Annie Lois Bailey here May 9, 1942. Harold was born in 1922 and died in Cherokee County July 8, 1990. Lynn Putman will die here September 18, 1947 at age 61. William will die here September 15, 1953 at age 82. Agnes will hang in till April 24, 1967 when she is 88 years old.

He died there in 1907. She was married there in 1900 and widowed in 1910 and 1920. Miles was a son of Thomas Putman and Lucinda Hart from Bartow County.

He is 40 GA GA GA and a farmer. Odessa Goodman his wife is 37 GA. They now have W. Coleman Jr. 15 GA, Allen G. 14 GA, Julia M. 11 GA, Jack D. 9 GA, Frank E. 7 GA, Norman E. 5 GA and J. Carolyn 1 1/12 GA. He is a son of Joel Mathis Putman and Matilda Sansom from here. He was born October 12, 1888. He married Odessa Goodman in about 1913. She was born May 16, 1892 and died in Fayette County, Georgia October 23, 1942. Buck died there as well, on July 3, 1954.

He is a son of James Erwin Putman and Josephine Lippe. The family moved here when he was only a year old. He’ll be here forever. His folks are over in Habersham County. Andrew will die here September 3, 1936.

He is 20 GA SC GA and has been married 1 year to Mary 17 AL. He is a plumber. He is a son of William Hutton Putman and Jane Ware from here. His folks have moved over to Cobb County with his sister. Albert will die here June 20, 1942.

She is 90 GA and lives with her daughter Clifford Hammond 65 GA and husband Theodore Hammond 67 GA. She is Augusta Jane Porter the widow of Israel Putnam who died back in 1889. She was here with them in 1910 and 1920. She will die soon here in Atlanta on December 8, 1930 and be buried in Spalding County along with her husband Israel. Her daughter Clifford was born August 25, 1862 and will die here February 11, 1933. Ted was born March 17, 1861 and will die here September 27, 1932. They are buried together in Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta.

CHARLES H. (HENRY) PUTNAM Atlanta, Fulton County

He is 61 GA GA GA and is a railroad conductor. He finally got married 6 years ago to Lou Huffman 53 GA. Her single sister Katherine Huffman 55 GA is with them so I know her name. He is a son of Henry and Mary Ann Putman from Cobb County in 1880. He then married Hattie Tynor in 1888 and was widowed in Sumter County in 1900. He was in Ben Hill County in 1910 and still widowed here in1920. Lou will die here June 9, 1934 and Charles on November 16, 1943 at age 74.

(Isaac) 3 GA and Bobby R. just barely born. He is a son of Isaac Thomas Putman and Mary Susan Wheeler from Cleburne County, Alabama. He was there with Minnie in 1920. He and his folks came up here to Atlanta about 1923. His dad died here in April 1925 and his mom died here October 7, 1928

There are a bunch of boarders so she runs a boarding house of sorts. Mary Clevie Lancaster is the widow of John Wade Putman who died here in Atlanta February 11, 1917. They were here in 1920. Lantie will die here later this year. Mary will die here in 1932. John will hang in here in Atlanta till 1949.

OLA PUTMAN Atlanta, Fulton County

She is 40 GA and widowed. Her daughter Frances is 12 GA. She operates a boarding house. She is Ola Wallace. She married Charles Putman in 1911 and was with him and his folks in Habersham County in 1920. He’ll move to California and be there till he dies in 1962. So she’s not a widow, but a divorcee. She will die here in Atlanta January 17, 1945.

She is 25 AL AL AL and a patient at the Battle Hill Sanitarium. Anne Frances is a daughter of Isaac Thomas Putman from Cleburne County, Alabama. She came up here in 1923 and her dad died in 1925 and her mom in 1928 and I guess it was just too much to handle.

He is 48 NC NC NC and owns a welding shop. Mary Belle Chumm his wife is 38 AL. They were here in 1920. He is a son of William Alexander Putman and Zulia Bridges from Cleveland County, North Carolina. They were here in 1920. He will remain in Georgia and die in Carroll County December 20, 1947. He married Mary Belle Chumm here on December 20, 1907.

He is a son of William Woods Putnam and his third wife Vianna Holcomb. He was born July 19, 1898. He married Emma Duane Keys. He died in Gordon County on February 10, 1982. Emma was born November 4, 1903 and died August 9, 1994.

GRADY PUTNAM Ranger, Gordon County

He is 28 GA GA GA and has a farm. His wife Lessie Ann Long is 26 GA. They have been married for five years. They have a son W. G. 5 GA. Henry Grady is a son of Willie Woods Putnam and his third wife Vianna Holcomb. He was born February 3, 1901, died October 24, 1979 in Calhoun, Georgia. He married Lessie Ann Long in Ranger, Gordon County on February 24, 1924. She was born June 11, 1903 and died January 15, 1971.

VIANNA PUTNAM Ranger, Gordon County

She is 57 GA and still a widow as she will be till she dies here in 1955. Her son Chad Spurgeon 17 GA is the only one still at home. Rhoda Vianna Holcomb is the third wife and widow of Willie Woods Putnam who died here October 31, 1917. Vianna was a daughter of Henry Snow Holcomb and Rhonda Ann Bates. She was born January 7, 1872 in Birmingham, Georgia and will die in Ranger, Georgia on October 28, 1955. Willie had some 20 kids with his three wives. Chad Spurgeon will marry Rachel Davis here April 2, 1933.

HENRY PUTNAM Resaca, Gordon County

He is 55 GA GA GA and a farmer. Mary Lillie Young his wife is 57 SC. They have Bennie 17 GA, and Ferd 10 GA (this should be the son Fred who is 26 now). William Henry Putnam is a son of Robert C. Putman from here. They have all been over in Whitfield County for quite a while. They were there in 1900 through 1920 and his folks died there in 1926. He was born December 27, 1878 and died January 20, 1938. He married Mary Lillie Young October 19, 1894. Mary was born April 3, 1875 and died at age 96 on August 24, 1969.

JAMES E. (ERWIN) PUTMAN Clarksville, Habersham County

James Hamilton’s son is now 72 SC SC SC and retired. He used to run a café here in town. Josephine Lippe his wife is 64 SC. They have been married just about 50 years now. At home still are Katie 36 GA and Sam J. 27 GA. He is James Erwin Putman a son of James Hamilton Putman and Susan Hancock from Oconee County South Carolina. He lists himself as a general merchant so must have a store here. He was born in Pickens County February 10, 1857, and died August 24, 1930 in Habersham County, Georgia. He married Josephine Lippe April 1, 1880 in Oconee County. They moved to Royston, Franklin County, Georgia in about 1884, and were there in 1900 and 1910. In 1920 and 1930 they are in Habersham County. They farmed and later ran a café in Clarkesville, Georgia. James will die shortly on August 30, 1930. Sam will never marry. Kate was struck by lightening as a child and it blew her mind. When her mother dies in a few years, she will be placed in an Institution.

QUILLIAN PUTMAN Clarkesville, Habersham County

He is 39 GA GA GA and drives a tractor for the County. Honor Kennedy his wife is 29 GA and Lucille 5 GA. She is the only child they will have. Quillian is a son of James Erwin Putman from here. Quill was born July 2, 1892 and will die here December 6, 1965. His wife Onie was born April 26, 1898 and will die here May 5, 1939

He is 42 SC SC SC and an auto mechanic in a garage. Martha Louise White his wife is 42 GA and they have Mary Edith 16 GA and Martha E. 5 GA. He is a son of John Wade Putman and Mary Lancaster from Spartanburg, S.C. His folks moved to Atlanta around 1910 and his dad died there in 1917. His mother is there now and she will die there in 1932. Oliver was born in Spartanburg August 21, 1886, and will die here in Hartwell at age 74 on September 13, 1960. Martha will hang in until August 8, 1965 when she is 78.

She is a widowed Black lady living with her married daughter.

SALLIE PUTMAN Eton, Murray County

She is 38 GA and divorced. She has a divorced daughter Irene Bowen 22 GA and a single daughter Helen 5 TN. I can’t find her. I think she may have been married to someone and then a Putman in the 1920s and then divorced soon afterwards. That way she would never appear with a Putman in any census. Probably took place over in Tennessee.

FRANK L. PUTNAM Columbus, Muscogee County

He is 33 ND NY IA. His wife Mabel is 27 MN and they have Mary L. 2 SD. He is a captain in the U. S. Army. He is a son of Thomas Putnam and Clara B. Weir. He was born in Carrington, Foster County, North Dakota. His folks were from Hardin County, Iowa and New York before that.

WILLIAM E. (EARL) PUTMAN Columbus, Muscogee County

He is 33 AL AL AL and is a city policeman. His wife Martha Moore 28 GA is a telephone operator. Her widowed mother Martha Moore is 68 GA. He is a son of William H. and Lorene Putman from Lee County, Alabama. His grandfather was from here in Muscogee County years ago. Line goes back to the elusive Hosea Putnam.

He is a son of Francis Allen Putman and Henrietta Sansom from St. Clair County Alabama and then here in Spalding County. He was born February 19, 1885 and He will die here June 21, 1959 at age 74. Maude will die March 20, 1975.

He is 27 GA GA GA and a farmer. Leslie his wife is 26 GA, Lloyd C. Jr. is 6 GA and Mildred (or something) 3 GA. He is a son of Judge Allen Putman and Harriet Williams from here. He was born in 1903. He will die in Spalding County June 26, 1959.

NANNIE PUTNAM Line Creek, Spalding County

She is 64 GA GA GA and widowed. She is Nancy Harrison the second wife and now widow of Sanford Allen Putman who died here May 29, 1920. Her son Judge Allen lives either next door or in the same house, both are listed as ‘head.’ Nancy will die here July 27, 1945.

Sanford’s son is 52 GA GA GA. Stella Maynard his wife is 53 GA. Been here all his life. He was born January 20, 1878. Stella was born November 1876. He married Mattie Estelle Maynard on October 17, 1897. He will die April 10, 1936. Estelle will die January 26, 1965 at age 88.

She is 57 GA and now widowed. She still has Lottie Belle 22 GA and Raymond 15 GA. She is Mary Ann Harrison the widow of John Edward Putman from here. She will die here herself in 1936.

He is 56 GA AL AL and divorced. He is a farmer. Joel Albert Putman is a son of Francis Allen Putman and Henrietta Sansom from Spalding County. He was married to Amanda Seymour in Dooley County in 1900 and here in 1910. From a relative, it seems they divorced and neither ever remarried. Amanda is in Macon, Bibb County in 1920 and 1930 and says she is widowed to avoid embarrassment. Amanda will die in Macon on September 15, 1970 at age 101.

HARRY G. (GLENN HARRISON) PUTMAN Thomaston, Upson County

He is 43 GA AL AL and runs a garage. Ollie Belle Love his wife is 39 GA. They now have Tye (Tyrus) 17 GA, Althea 16 GA, Sarah 13 GA, Harry L. 5 GA and Glenn 4 GA. He is a son of Joel Mathis Putman and Matilda Sansom from Spalding County. He was born April 8, 1886. He married Ollie Belle Love on October 22, 1911. He died in Upson County, Georgia on January 14, 1940. Ollie Belle was born June 20, 1890 and died October 20, 1962 in Houston, Texas.

JAMES R. (ROBERT) PUTNAM Chestnut Flat, Walker County

He has moved over from Whitfield County. His second wife Elma Price has died and he married Catherine Brannon about a year ago. So, here we go. He is 53 GA GA GA, Cathie 37 AL. Kids are Claude 24 GA, William 22 GA, Agnes 14 GA, Eugene 12 GA, Vina 9 GA. Cathie was married twice before and has one Cooper and three Goad children. She will die in about 1931 and that’s it as far as more wives goes. There will be one more son born in 1931, Franklin David Putnam. Anyway, he is a son of Robert C. Putnam and Lucy Thomas from Gordon County. He was born July 7, 1875 and died January 22, 1946. He married three times. First to Eva Louella Mitchell on March 17, 1895. She was born March 10, 1875 and died September 19, 1900. He then married Elma Ada Prince on July 3, 1903 and they had eight more children. She was born May 17, 1883 and died April 9, 1927. James Robert Putnam later married, about 1929, a widow named Catherine Brannon Cooper Goad and they will have one more child before Catherine dies September 1, 1931.

C. M. (CHARLES MARTIN) PUTMAN Wilson, Walker County

He is 25 GA GA GA and a farmer. Grace Lea Williams his wife is 19 GA and they have Charlene 3 GA. He is a son of James Robert Putman and Eva Mitchell from Whitfield County. He was at home there in 1920. He was born July 31, 1904 and died June 16, 1973. Grace was born October 31, 1910 and died January 16, 1974.

WALTER B. (BUTLER) PUTMAN Waycross, Wade County

He is 32 SC SC SC single and boarding. He is a car repair guy. He is a son of William Butler Putman and Mattie Garrett from Laurens County, and then Greenville County South Carolina. He was born February 22, 1898 and will die May 3, 1985 over in Greenville, South Carolina. He will marry Frances Thompson in the next few years back in South Carolina and they will have a daughter Beverly Frances Putnam in 1935.

He is 30 GA GA GA and a grammar school teacher. Mary Florence Boyd his wife of 5 years is 25 GA and they have Sarah F. 4 GA and Betty J. 2 GA. They live with her folks. They were married here December 24, 1924. He is a son of Willie Woods Putnam from Gordon County. He will be a teacher for a while and then Tax Commissioner for the County. He was born November 25, 1899. He married Mary Florence Boyd in Whitfield County, Georgia on December 24, 1924. She was born February 25, 1905 and died January 5, 1979. He died June 9, 1975. They had just these two daughters.

R. H. (ROBERT HURT) PUTMAN Dalton, Whitfield County

He is 45 GA GA GA and operates a gasoline filling station. Maggie his wife is 45 GA and they have Bertha 14 GA, Clara B. 12 GA, Robbie a daughter 9 GA, Charles 6 GA. Also here is his widowed father Abram Alton Putman 72 GA. They all have been in Bartow County up until now. His dad was widowed and with him in 1920 back there. Abram will hang in till January 1941. Robert was born May 10, 1884, not sure when he died.

(Robert) 10 GA, Nina V. 8 GA, Daisy L. 6 GA and a grandson Julian L. 6/12 GA. He is a son of Robert C. Putnam and Lucy Thomas from Gordon County. Charles was born August 31, 1880 and died July 23, 1936. He married Sarah Amanda Henson on October 12, 1904. She was born November 16, 1884 and died December 6, 1961. Then as to the kids, Oscar Franklin Putnam was born July 19, 1905 and died November 25, 1964. Edward Richard Putnam was born September 30, 1906 and died September 1, 1931. He is single in Grady County Oklahoma in 1930. Harriett 'Hattie' Lou Caroline Putnam born June 10, 1908 and died August 1, 1981. James Ernest Putnam born February 5, 1910 and died May 4, 1961. Effie Mae Putnam born February 28, 1914 and died April 3, 1984. Mary Emma Putnam born June 17, 1912 and died September 6, 1976. She married Richard Jones. Cecil Leon Putnam born December 30, 1916. He married Ruth Dennington. He died in Whitfield County on February 7, 1979. William Grady Putnam born February 11, 1918 and died March 27, 2004. Robert Elbert Putnam born August 14, 1919 and died July 23, 1981. Nina Viola Putnam born November 25, 1921. Daisy Louise Putnam born August 28, 1923.

CLINTON H. (HENRY) PUTNAM Fincher, Whitfield County

He is 22 GA GA SC and a farmer. Mary Ellen Godfrey his wife is 18 GA and they have Henry P. 3/12 GA. He is a son of William Henry Putnam and Lillie Young from here. He was home in 1920 and got married here last year. Henry was born October 10, 1907. He married Mary Ellen Godfrey in 1929, who was born August 25, 1911. They died together in an auto accident on January 1, 1946 probably coming home from a wild New Year's Eve party.
