INDIANA
CENSUS REPORTS
1820 - 1880
UPDATED NOVEMBER 9, 2008
The first Federal Census for Indiana was in 1820. Indiana
was a territory in 1800, with Michigan being taken out of it in 1805 and
Illinois in 1809. The Battle of Tippecanoe was fought in 1811 and our Putmans
were all in it. In 1816, Indiana became the 19th state. In 1816, Daniel Putman
was a help in forming Gibson County where his family lived. The first
Putmans/Putnams in Indiana in 1820 are old familiar names to us Southern Putman folk.
In the 1820 census males are broken down 0-9, 10-15, 16-18, 19-25, 26-44, 45 and older. Females are divided 0-9, 10-15, 16-25, 26-44, 45 and over.
In the 1830 and 1840 census both males and females are listed 0-4, 5-9, 10- 14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, etc.
From 1850 on ages and states of birth are shown. In 1880 places of birth are listed for the person, their father and their mother.

CENSUS
JAMES PUTMAN Fayette County
He is John Putman and Mary Long's son from Culpeper County, Virginia. He was born in Virginia in about 1777, and married Mary Collins about 1802. He went to Kentucky with his folks and his uncle Henry Putman about 1797. He was in Pendleton County, Kentucky in 1810, and has moved up here. He married Mary back in Kentucky. Listing is 101010 31010. They will be here in 1830 and then by 1840 Mary will be here, but a widow. This line is James > John > Zachariah II > Zachariah I > Thomas > Thomas > Thomas Putnam the immigrant from England.
WILLIAM PUTMAN Gibson County
He is a son of Daniel Putman and Prudence Skelton. He was born in Anderson, South Carolina March 15, 1796. He and his folks came up from South Carolina via Warren County, Kentucky and got here in Indiana about 1806. He is on the old farm near Princeton. He married Alla Bridges here in Gibson County on August 8, 1817. The family is shown as 100100 10111. The older women are Prudence, his mother and Lavinia his sister. Daniel had died three years earlier. These folks will be off to Fulton County, Illinois in a few years, as will his brother Reding and his family. Reding currently has slipped back to Barren County, Kentucky for four years. This line is William > Daniel > Barnet > Thomas > Zachariah I > Thomas > Thomas > Thomas Putnam.
HOWARD PUTMAN Knox County
He hails from Sutton, Massachusetts, and is actually a cousin of the John Putman in Bath County, Virginia that I told you about earlier in the Virginia Section. The family Listing is 001112 33120. His wife Hannah Green has died in 1817. He will marry Rosy Washburn here July 24, 1824. She will die and he will marry Caroline Bush. Howard was born in Sutton on February 10, 1762. He is number 987 in Eben's books. They were in Delaware County, New York before they came here. The family will be heading to Wabash County, Illinois in about twelve years. Howard will die there on January 24, 1834. He served a long time during the Revolution all over New Jersey and Pennsylvania. His line is Howard 987 > Samuel 388 > Jeptha 158 > Eleazer 131 > John 8 > John Putnam the New England guy.
HAZEAL PUTMAN Vanderburgh County
Daniel and Prudence's son has moved from Gibson County to Vanderburgh just south of where his folks lived. He was born in Union County, South Carolina May 7, 1787. His wife is Isabel Combs, sister to my Reding’s Stacy Combs. They were married in Bowling Green, Kentucky October 18, 1806. The listing is 300210 11010. The family will be moving to Illinois, first to Schuyler County and then to Fulton County. The line here is Hazeal > Daniel > Barnet > Thomas > Zachariah > Thomas > Thomas > Thomas Putnam
LABAN PUTMAN Warrick County
He is Barnet Putman's son, born in Union County, South Carolina in the mid 1770s. He and his wife Betsy Young are listed as 110010 41010. Laban had gone to Kentucky in the late 1790s, and married Betsy in Livingston County on March 1, 1800. This was two years before his dad moved up from Anderson, South Carolina into Warren County, Kentucky. They were probably in Caldwell County, Kentucky in the 1810, but I don’t find them there or here in Indiana. He was on the 1809 tax list in Caldwell County though. They will be off shortly to White County, Illinois where Laban will die in about 1834. The rest of the family will remain in Gallatin and then Hamilton Counties in Illinois for some time. This line is Laban > Barnet > Thomas > Zachariah > Thomas > Thomas > Thomas Putnam.

INDIANA 1840
CENSUS
THOMAS PUTNAM Cass County
Listing is 20001 10001. They are in their 20s. He is a son of Thomas Putman and Nancy Grover. Thomas Senior was a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Kendrick from Mason County, Kentucky. He was born April 22, 1813 in Kentucky, and his family moved to Champaign County, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Weaver on February 17, 1837 in Piqua, Champaign County, Ohio. FREDERICK E.
(ELISHA) PUTNAM Delaware County
Listing is 00003 20001. He is here in 1850 and it states he is from New Hampshire and his wife Susan J. from New York. It seems that he has two of his brothers with him. He was born in 1818 and married Susan Jane Sawyer here in Muncie on May 20, 1840. He is number 2559, a son of Elisha D. Putnam (1150) and Nancy Melville. He was born in Charlestown, New Hampshire February 11, 1818. He came out here in the 1830s and runs an iron and hardware business, F. E. Putnam & Co.

He is James and Mary' son and the family is growing, now it is 210001 00101.
MARY PUTMAN Fayette County
James died and Mary Collins Putman, in her 60s, is a widow. Listing is 00001 000020001.
REUBEN PUTNAM
SR. Richland, Fountain County
00000100001 11101. He is likely the Reuben from Hamilton County, Ohio in 1820. He is widowed in his 80s. Looks like a married son, or grandson actually, and his wife are with him. I think the younger couple are Reuben Putnam 3rd and Nancy Fix who will next be in Will County, Illinois by 1850. He was a character. Check out the 1850 IL listing. Now, speaking of wives. There are several marriage records for these various Reubens. On June 30, 1825 a Reuben married Margaret Johnson in Marion County, Indiana. Reuben (the younger one here) issued a ‘warning’ about his wife Nancy in Tippecanoe County on September 26, 1833. Then there is a marriage record here in Fountain County that a Reuben Putnam married Fanny Wamsley on December 18, 1833. That Reuben is probably the next listed Reuben Junior. New Englanders.
REUBEN PUTNAM
JR. Logan, Fountain County
000110001 30001001. Obviously Reuben's son. Both these families will be gone in 1850, but a son of Reuben Junior, Thomas, will remain on the old farm and be her in 1850 and 1860 then in Vermilion County Illinois by 1870. Family out of Vermont.
CAROLINE
PUTNAM Knox County`
Howard Putnam's second wife and now widow, Caroline Bush, is in her 60s, probably with a son and his wife, or two of her own kids with her still. 0001 000010001. They went to Illinois and Howard died there in 1834.
DANIEL PUTNAM Knox County
He is Howard and Hannah's son. 220001 01001. He is Daniel Green Putnam. He was born in Ovid, New York October 10, 1802 and will die in Lee County, Iowa in 1843. He married Elizabeth Washburn. They will be in Wabash County, Illinois with his brothers in 1850. Elizabeth will die in Lee County in 1851. Line is Daniel > Howard > Samuel > Jeptha > Eleazer > John > John
JAMES F. (FRENCH)
PUTNAM La Porte County
11001 00001. He is number 2864, a son of Peter Putnam (1286) and Susannah Keep. He was born June 29, 1814 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The family moved to Hebron, New York when he was an infant. He will be in Athens, Michigan by 1850.
BENJAMIN
PUTMAN Monroe County
James Putman and Elizabeth Kendrick's son. He is in his twenties as is Melvina Baker, his wife since June 5, 1836. The listing for the family is 10002 20011. He will be moving to Linn County, Missouri shortly. There is an older couple living with them. I think it is Henry who is missing.
HENRY PUTMAN Monroe County
Henry had married Agnes Jones. He is not listed here in the 1840 census, but I'll bet he and Agnes are the extra two older people listed with Benjamin above. Henry will die in Monroe County in about 1846. Agnes later married Stockton Lundy on January 18, 1848
JAMES PUTMAN Monroe County
Like Henry, he is not listed, but he appears in 1850 in Brown County, Indiana widowed at age 72 living with his grandson in law Bluford Reddick, and near Stephen Harper who was a son of William Harper and James' sister Anna Putman. He will then return here to Monroe County and die in the early 1850s.
WILLIAM PUTMAN Montgomery County
Now in his 60s and his wife in her 50s, this is Henry and Elizabeth's son who was in Bracken County, Kentucky in 1830. The listing is 000000001 00100001. He married Elizabeth Bromley on October 27, 1802. She died in the 1840s, as on June 6, 1849 he married Mary Ann (Harper) Chambers.
HARRIETT
PUTNAM Union County
This county is just over from the Ohio line. I think she is the widow of William D. Putnam from Columbia, Hamilton County, Ohio as shown in 1820. Ages of her and he daughters are perfect. She is in her 30s. Listing is 02 011001. At any rate, she will marry Andrew Nixon here in 1843. Then in 1860, Henry Clay Putnam from Marietta, Ohio will be living here. So there is probably a connection here to her first husband somehow. Her son John is here in 1850.
NEWTON PUTNAM Wells County
Listing is 101001 000001. He and his wife Elmira Baldwin will be here in 1850. Newton came with his father and the whole family from Cavendish, Vermont in 1836. In 1837 there was an epidemic that killed his brothers Kendall, William, Ezra and Charles. Dad and the 'survivors’ headed right back to Vermont in 1837. Newton remained. Newton, by the way is 35 and was born in Danvers, Massachusetts January 13, 1805. The line is Newton (#2005) > Ezra (838) > Phineas > Stephen > Benjamin > Nathaniel > John Putnam.
CLARISSA
PUTNAM Wells County
Listing is 10 020001. She is the widow of Ezra Putnam's son Kendall Putnam. She seems to have hung around too, but will be gone or remarried during the 1840s.

CENSUS
HARRY (HARVEY) N.
PUTNAM Wayne Township, Allen County
He is 37 NY, Alvira L. 31 NY and Elizabeth 10 NY. They will be here through 1870 at least.
AARON J.
PUTMAN Pleasant Township, Allen County
He
is 36 NY, Catherine 31 NY and Melvina M. 9 OH. He was born in Johnstown NY, a
part of the New York Dutch family, but I can’t really figure out his line. They
will be here in 1860 and then in Newton County in 1870 and 1880. He is widowed
with his son Edward in Jasper County in 1900. Catherine died about 1897-1898.
According to an article from the Fort Wayne Paper on September 20, 1900: “Aaron I. Putman, of Newton county, this state, is in the
city enjoying the meeting with old friends and a glance at scenes with which he
was familiar more than forty years ago. Mr. Putman first came to Allen
County in October, 1840, locating in Pleasant township near the old Godfrey
farm. In 1847 he removed his family to this city and opened a blacksmith
shop at the corner of Calhoun and Jefferson streets. This was his place
of business until 1881, when he removed to Newton county, which has since been
his home, and this, is his first visit to the city since his removal forty
years ago. This aged gentleman was born at Johnstown, N.Y. in September
1813, and is now eighty-seven years old, but he made the present trip by
driving through in his family carriage - a rather remarkable feat for one of
his advanced age. Mr. Putman's memory is excellent and he is able to tell
many incidents of the pioneer days in Fort Wayne. His faithful wife died
two years ago, at the advanced age of eighty-one years and after the venerable
couple had enjoyed sixty years and five months of wedded life
together.” There were several families in Johnstown with sons under 10
years of age, so no guesses.
ELIZABETH

County
She is 17 VT. She is living with William and Sarah Shull. Sarah is 20 VT and probably her sister.
JAMES PUTMAN Washington Township, Brown County
See 1840. He is 72 VA and soon will go back to Monroe County where he will die in 1854. Southern Putmans.

He was born in Charlestown, New Hampshire February 11, 1818. He came out here in the 1830s and runs an iron and hardware business, F. E. Putnam & Co.
DYER PUTNAM Middlebury Township, Elkhart County
He is in the index as Dire. He is 50 VT (actually CT), Lucy (Conger) 39 NY, and a couple of Andrews children from Lucy’s first marriage to William Andrews. They were married in 1833 and he died in 1837. The kids were Helen Andrews 16 CT and William Andrews 14 CT. The kids here that are theirs are Louisa 8 NY, Dyer 6 NY and Harriet 2 NY. A son of James and Mary. He is 35 IN and, not married, but has Nancy Putman 20 (a daughter of his brother Joseph), and his widowed sister Rebecca Kinder 33 IN and a son of hers, Alexander Kinder 9 IN, with him. Then there is an Elizabeth Hawkins 85 NC staying there. Elizabeth is the widow of Joseph Hawkins and mother-in-law of two of Daniel's sisters. Because of this relationship, Elizabeth may well have been his mother in law as well. He probably also married a Hawkins. Southern Putmans.
JOSEPH PUTMAN
Harrison Township, Fayette County
Dan's brother. Joseph is 47 KY, Eliza Conklin is 37 PA, Henry 13, John 11, Amanda 7, Savannah 5, Amos 5 and stepdaughter Harriett Conklin 18. All the kids are IN born. Southern Putmans.
THOMAS J.
PUTNAM Logan Township, Fountain County
I would guess he is a son of Reuben Putnam, Jr. here in 1840 and in 1860. Tom is 26 IN, Mary Cedars his wife is 26 OH, William 7 IN, Polk 4 IN and Andrew R. 1 IN. They were married here December 27, 1842. They are in Vermilion County Illinois by 1860 and will remain there.

He will soon marry Lavinia Tenney. They will be here a while and then head off to Illinois and finally to Coryell County, Texas.
JOSEPH PUTNAM Madison, Jefferson County
Well this guy was in Lexington, Kentucky for ages. He was a furniture maker. He is staying in a boarding house and in 1852 will go by wagon train to Douglas County, Oregon. His sons Nathan and Charles went there in 1846 and I guess wrote home that it was pretty nice out there. They will be there in 1860. Anyway Joseph is 60 MA, Susan Frances Hall, his wife is 50 KY, Francis 17 KY and Catherine 12 KY.
ELIZA PUTNAM Pleasant Township, Johnson County
She is 28 VT and living with George Noble.
JAMES L.
PUTMAN Kent County
He is 45 KY, Susan 34 KY, John H. 6 IN and James E. 1 IN. He's a stone cutter. He might be the son of James Putman, born in Pendleton County, Kentucky and in Fayette County, Indiana in 1820. Not certain at all.
HORACE PUTNAM Michigan City, La Porte County
He is a teamster 39 (actually 35, born 2/24/1815) NY, Mary 29 NY, Hannah M. 10 WI, Henry 2 MI and Horace 5 months IN. The family was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the 1840 census. They will still be here in 1860 and will be in Jackson County, Michigan in 1870 and in Conway, Livingston County, Michigan by the 1880 census. ALVA B. (ALVIN BLISS)

He is a son of John Adams Putnam and Anna Bliss from Hanover, New Hampshire (and a grandson of Aaron Putnam and Sarah Colbert). He was born, it seems, back in Sutton Mass. His folks moved to Ohio in the 1830s, and he moved here to Indiana about 1841. He married Lucy Ann Lobbell in St. Joseph’s County, Indiana July 20, 1848. So She was a second wife. I have no clue as to his first wife. They will be in St. Joseph’s County from 1860 on.
WILLIAM PUTMAN Montgomery County
He is now 70 and his wife Elizabeth Bromley has died. His new wife is Mary Ann Chambers, 37 with her daughter Martha Chambers, 10. William applied for and received a marriage certificate for him and Mary Ann Chambers and they were married in Montgomery County on June 6, 1849. Sly old guy still has it! Southern Putmans.
HENRY PUTMAN'S
FAMILY Monroe County
James' son Henry Putman died in 1847. His wife Agnes Jones has remarried to Stockton Lundy in 1848. She is listed with his family and with her are Lucinda Putman 17, Louisa Putman 16, Sarah Putman 12 and Henrietta Putman 7. All the kids are IN. Elizabeth Putman, 21, had married James Matlock and was with him. Southern Putmans.
LUCINDA PUTMAN Wayne Township, Owen County
She is 17 IN living with a Crissman family. This must be a dual listing for Henry’s daughter. She is also shown back home in Monroe County. She will marry James Martin here on September 17, 1853 and move to Michigan.
PHILANDER
PUTNAM District 85, Parke County
He is 7 IL living with a John Piseley from NC. He is a son of Chesterfield Putnam and Elizabeth Baird. He is also shown at home in Wabash County, Illinois. No idea what he is doing over here though.

JOHN PUTNAM Union Township, Union County
He is 19 OH working on the farm of Wilson Griffin. He would be a son of Harriet Putnam who was widowed here in 1840. She has remarried Andrew Nixon and still lives here in town.
GEORGE PUTNAM Noble Township, Wabash County
He is 32 NH, Elizabeth 36 IN, Martin 13 IN, and William H. 8 months IN. He and Elizabeth McKinney were married here April 5, 1847. Then there are a bunch of stepchildren, last name of McKinney, they are Elizabeth 15 IN, Sally 8 IL, John 6 IN, Maria 2 IN. They would be Elizabeth’s from her first marriage. Now, things will get interesting by 1860. In that census, we find his brother Joseph, who would be 30 now according to the 1860, living right here with Elizabeth, Maria and William, and some new kids. Sorta looks like George and a couple of the kids died, and his brother came down from New Hampshire and took what was left of the family. Must be a good story here somewhere. Both George and Joseph are sons of Joseph Putnam (Eben’s number 1943) and Sarah Shattuck of Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. George was born there October 24, 1817, and Joseph on May 4, 1819.

In 1870 there is a Chauncy Putman 50 MA and wife Abigail 52 NY in Appanoose County, Iowa, but none of these kids. I assume same guy, but still no idea who he is. There is, however, a marriage record of Chauncy marrying Abigail Raesin here June 28, 1857.

He is indexed as David, but is Peter Putman 42 OH, Sarah 39 PA, Frederick 16 OH, Henry 15 OH, Joseph 12 OH, Lucy 9 OH and Sarah 7 OH. Sarah Shuman and the kids were the family of Peter Putman in Wyandotte County, Ohio in 1850. This is the same family, and in 1870 will be listed Peter again. This was just a poor index. He is part of the German family from Pennsylvania. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Elizabeth Gross, and was born in Wayne County, Ohio. His brother Jacob is listed next. He will be here in Fulton County at least through 1900 at age 82.
JACOB PUTNAM Henry Township, Fulton County

SUSAN PUTMAN Noblesville, Hamilton County
She is 30 VT and a teacher.
HORACE D.
PUTNAM Michigan City, La Porte County
He is 48 NY, Mary 30 NY, Henry 12 NY (MI in 1850), Horace 10 NY (IN in 1850), a daughter 8 NY, Elizabeth 6 NY and Jared 3 NY. The last three are also obviously born in Indiana. He is a son of Asa Putnam and Mary Taggart of Washington County, New York. They were here in 1850, he is a teamster. They will be off to Jackson County, Michigan shortly.
SPENCER PUTMAN Noble Township, La Porte County
He is 50 NY, Mary 30 ENG, Charles 8 OH and Spencer B. 2 MN. This sure looks like the Spencer who was in Huron County, Ohio in 1850, but with a whole new family. See that listing. If the same, he is Dutch. On the other hand he might be the Spencer in Franklinville, Cattaraugus County, New York in the 1840.
WHEELER PUTMAN Marion Township, Lawrence County
He is 20 NY and boarding. Well actually, his dad was born in New York, but Wheeler was born in Warren County, Georgia. His folks were Gideon and Stella Putnam from Saratoga County, New York. Gideon and his brother Charles were attorneys. Gideon went to Georgia in the 1830s, his brother joined him in the 1840s. They both headed back north in the 1850s, probably to get out of the way of the Civil War. Gideon was a son of Benjamin Risley Putnam and Eunice Morgan of Saratoga, and Vermont before that. His folks must be splitting up as his dad will be out here by himself by 1870 and be here forever. His mom is back in Saratoga Springs. The line goes back to Massachusetts. Wheeler is going to get married here, have two kids, and be in Effingham County, Illinois in 1870, and in East St. Louis, St. Clair County, Illinois in 1880.

ERNESTUS
PUTMAN White River Township, Randolph
County
He has moved over from Darke County, Ohio. He is now 84 NY, Elizabeth Gray is 72 IRE. They live next to their son Ernestus. We have followed them from Schenectady, New York to West Virginia to Ohio to here. He is a son of Arent (Aaron) J. Putman and Elizabeth De Spitzer from Schenectady, Albany County, New York, and has arrived here via West Virginia (Virginia at the time). He was born in Schenectady October 27, 1776. He married Nancy Becker there, but she died June 8, 1812. He then headed off to West Virginia (Virginia at the time), and married Elizabeth Gray, born in Ireland. They were married March 24, 1814 in Shepardstown, Virginia. They were in New Madison, Ohio for some 38 years. In 1857 they came here to Indiana. He will die here October 20, 1865. Elizabeth will die here the year before on February 15, 1864. Dutch Family from New York State.
ERNESTUS PUTMAN

DANIEL PUTMAN Union Township, Rush County
He is another of James kids and is living with his brother Joseph. Dan is 38 KY and unmarried.
JOSEPH PUTMAN Rush County
Listed as Jasper, this is Joseph son of James Putman. He is over from Fayette County. He is now 55 KY, Eliza Conklin is listed as 65 but is really 45, Henry 22, John 20, Amanda 18, Samantha 15, Amos 13 and Charley 10.
ALVA B. PUTNAM South Bend, Saint Joseph County
He is 53 MA, Lucy Ann Lobbell 37 NY, Alva jr. 12 IN and Lillian 2 IN. In 1850 they were in Marshall County, Indiana. See that listing for this line. They are here but not listed in 1870, and are here in 1880, but Lucy is then a widow.
JOHN PUTMAN Hammond Township, Spencer County
He is a cooper, 29 KY, Lavinia 19 OH, John M. 4 IN and Mary Elizabeth 2 IN. He is the eldest son of Michael Putman and Malinda Long from Greenup County, Kentucky. His dad died and his mother married Henry Plackard and the whole gang moved up here about 6 years ago. Malinda and the kids' listings are coming up shortly.
MALINDA PUTMAN
PLACKARD Spencer County
She is Malinda Long, the widow of Michael Putman. She married Henry Plackard recently and has all her children, except the John Above, with her. Malinda is 51, Henry Plackard is 59. The Putman kids are: Jane 21, Benjamin 17, Moses 14, Nancy 11 and John R. 5. The kids will be around in 1870. Malinda and her son Benjamin will be in Lawrence County, Illinois in 1880. She will be widowed once again then.
J. W. (JOHN WARREN)
PUTNAM Wayne Township, Stark County
He is 29 NY, Mary J. Rogers his wife is 25 PA, Lorina 5 IN and Ernest D. 2 IN. This family will be in Marshall County, Indiana in 1870 and in Archer County, Texas in 1880. Best guess is that he is a son of Aaron Putnam and Mary Case from Warren County New York as shown in 1850.
HENRY C. (CLAY)
PUTNAM Union Township, Union County
He is 26 OH and a farm laborer with Andrew and Harriet Nixon. He is a son of Louis John Pope Putnam from Marietta, Ohio. He will marry here in Indiana, and move to Kansas. No, if you look back to the 1840 census, you will see Harriet was widowed here and was named as a Putnam. Have no ideas as to her first husband, but probably a connection to the Ohio line.

JOSEPH PUTMAN Noble Township, Wabash County
He is 39 NH, Elizabeth 47 IN, Maria 12 IN, Levi 12 NH, William H. 10 IN, Joseph 8 IN and George 1 IN. This is a portion of the family here in 1850 listed under his brother George Putman from New Hampshire. Take a look back at that one. Looks like George died in the mid 1850s as did a son Martin. Maria, William and Joseph are George’s kids. Joseph had married Mary Jamison in Nashua, N.H. February 26, 1846. The son Levi here was their child and was at home with his folks in 1850. Mary must have died in the late 1840s, and I don’t find Joseph in 1850. Joseph came out and married his widow around 1857-1858 (young George is their son). Joseph is a son of Joseph Putnam and Sarah Shattuck. George was also. He was born in Lyndeborough, New Hampshire May 4, 1819. I don’t find them in 1870, but Elizabeth will be widowed here in 1880, some of the kids will be here through 1900. The son Levi will be in Kansas in 1870 and 1880 and then married in Kansas City, Missouri about 1882 and be there from then on.
AARON PUTMAN Hagerstown, Wayne County
He is 49 VA and is a painter. His wife Eliza Jane Smith is 41 OH and they have Josephine (Martha in 1850) 17 OH and Emma 15 OH. He has been here since the 1830s. See the comments back in 1840 for more on this family. His first wife Elimira Baldwin has just died March 11, 1860. Mary Corrsen is his second wife. The son, Ezra, is Ezra Nelson Putnam, and will be in Rutland, Vermont in 1870 and Clinton, Massachusetts in 1880 single in both cases. The Sarah here is Sarah Lancaster who just married his son Charles Ezra Putnam here October 16, 1859.

be a twin, John W. also 1/12 living nearby with Annie Putnam 25 OH and the
Charles Branahan family. John, and his two brothers coming up, Lyman and
William, are all sons of Daniel Putnam Jr. and his first wife Abigail Tasker of
Dixmont, Penobscot County, Maine. He was born there August 15, 1850. I don't
know who Annie is, she is not a sister (wasn't in any of the Maine Census
reports with the family). John married Mary here February 13, 1879. Then this line
is, going back from John to Daniel Jr. to Daniel Putnam and his first wife
Nancy Jones to John Putnam and Joanna Eames to Israel Putnam and Sarah
Hutchinson > Israel Putnam > Benjamin > Nathaniel > John Putnam of
Salem, Massachusetts.
