CHARLES PUTMAN  Ft. Wayne, Allen County

He is 28 IN born June 1871. He is boarding. I don't find him in 1880.

 

GEORGE C. PUTMAN  Ft. Wayne, Allen County

He is 33 OH born Jul 1866, Allie M. Van Arsdale or Van Ansdale 23 OH born Jul 1876. They are here in 1910 and 1920, as are her folks. They were married here June 20, 1895. He is a son of William and Susan Putman from Dublin, Mercer County Ohio. He was home there in 1870, and with the family in Adams County Indiana in 1880. German family from Pennsylvania.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  Montpelier, Blackford County

He is 43 PA born Jul 1856, Mary Rebecca Richey 36 PA born Sep 29, 1863, Pearl Pansey 18 born Jul 6, 1881, Norman Richie 16 PA born Jan 1885, Jessie Sarah14 PA born Mar 4, 1887 and her twin Harriet Isabelle 14 PA born Mar 4, 1887, Edward Earl 11 PA born Jan 1888 and James Junior 3 IN born Aug 1896. He is an oil well contractor. He is a son of Norman Putman and his second wife Margaret Kilpatrick from Crawford County Pennsylvania in 1860 and Venango County Pennsylvania in 1870, and I donít find any of them in 1880. They are in Lawrence County Illinois in 1910. Then they are all in Tulsa Oklahoma by 1920 and still in 1930. By then he runs an oil field supply company.

 

JOHN J. PUTTMANN  New Point, Decatur County

He is 42 IN born Jul 1857, Hester E. 45 IN, Rose E. 20 IN, Clyde E. H. 19 IN, Elva D. 16 IN, Lucy J. 12 IN and Clara 10 IN. They were here in 1880. He is a son of John and Christina Puttmann.

 

FREDERICK PUTNAM  Muncie, Delaware County

He is 82 NH born Feb 1818 and the father in law of Edward and Mary Olcott. He has been here since the 1840s, and his daughter and son in law were with him back in 1880. Looks like his wife Susan Sawyer has died recently.

 

SYLVESTER PUTNAM  Harbison Township, Dubois County

He is 52 IL Feb 1848, Sarah 39 IN Aug 1860, Edgar 17 IN Aug 1882, Holly 15 IN Sep 1884, Warren 11 IN Aug 1888, Sylvinia 8 IN Jul 1891 and Raymond 5 IL Aug 1894. He is a son of Sylvester and Elizabeth Putnam from Wabash County Illinois and a grandson of Samuel from New Hampshire. He is widowed in Martin County in 1910.

 

HENRY PUTMAN  Fairview Township, Fayette County

Southern Putman family, a son of Joseph Putman and Eliza Conklin from here. He is now 62 IN born Dec 1837, Mary Alte 49 KY born Dec 1845. The kids are now all gone.

 

CHARLES F. PUTMAN  New Albany, Floyd County

He is 40 NY NY NY born Oct 1859, Daisy D. Frederick 28 IN IN IN born Dec 1871, John S. 4 IN born May 1896, and Fredricka Althea 6/12 IN born November 1899. They are living with her folks Lafayette and Jennie Frederick. He is a bookkeeper. John S. is listed as a Ďgrandson-step.í Charles and Daisy have been married for one year (January 5, 1899), so Charles was married earlier to another gal also born in Indiana. They are in Council Bluffs, Iowa by 1920. He is the son of George Carlton and Elizabeth Putnam. In 1860 he was at home in Rochester, New York.

 

ORINAL PUTNAM  New Albany, Floyd County

He is Aranul Webster Putnam. He is 49 OH Nov 1850, and widowed. He has with him Albertina 25 MO Oct 1874, Minnie (Alice) 23 MO Aug 1876 and his mother Sophia (Bliss) 71 VT born Aug 1828. He is a son of  Sidney Putnam. In 1850 they were in Madison County Ohio in 1850, LaSalle County Illinois in 1860 and in Ray County Missouri by 1880. They have made just about a complete circle in the last 50 years. His dad came from New Hampshire and has recently died here. Aranul will next go to Will County Illinois and be living with his daughters at the home of his (now dead) wife's mother, Olive Ames in Will County Illinois, and be there in 1910. Then, he will go to Braceville, Grundy County Illinois where he will die December 12, 1917. According to his death certificate, he was a railroader, so that's why he was forever moving around. His daughter Albertina gave that info on the death certificate.

 

LAFAYETTE PUTNAM  Attica, Fountain County

He is 49 WI Jun 1850, Mary E. 43 IL Nov 1856, Lucy J. 18 IN Jun 1881, Don W. 16 OH Feb 1884, Catherine M. 10 IN Dec 1889, and Alta Bernice 6 IN Dec 1893. He is a son of Lafayette Putnam and Almeda Dustin. He was home in 1850 in Milwaukee, and then in Marshall County Illinois in 1860 and St. Louis, Missouri in 1870. He was married to Mary Elizabeth there in 1880, and then they came up to Indiana about 1890. They are in Indianapolis in 1910 until they die, she in 1919 and he in 1921.

 

DAVID PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

He is a son of Jacob and Susan Putman, PA German folks who were in Hancock County Ohio in 1850 and here in 1860. David is 41 IN born August 12, 1858, Melissa J. 38 IN born August 19, 1861, Andrew J. 15 IN born Sep 1884, Claud E. 10 IN born July 14, 1889 and died September 18, 1919, Folen a son 8 IN born Apr 1892 and Velda 3 IN born Oct 1896. They are here in 1920. Melissa will die June 18, 1928 and David on March 14, 1946.

 

IRA PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

He is 31 IN born Nov 1868, Livenea 29 IN born Feb 1871. Ira will die here in 1933, Luvenea in 1923. He is a son of Jacob. They live near each other, however. Jacob was a son of Jacob Putman and Elizabeth Gross.

 

JACOB PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

PA German as stated just above. He's been here since the 1850s. He is now widowed at age 78 OH born Jun 1821 and has his daughter Lavinia E. 34 IN born March 7, 1866 with him. She will marry Benjamin Franklin Clevenger in 1909 and then die here July 27, 1938. Jacob will die here March 30, 1908. His wife Susanna died here April 29, 1891.

 

JOSEPH PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

He is 51 OH born Jan 1849 and a brother in law of George A. Burns. He is a son of Peter and Margaret Putman (PA German family). He was born in Wyandotte County Ohio and was with the family in 1850.

 

PETER PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

He is 82 PA and living with Susan Lorenzo as a father in law. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Elizabeth Gross from Somerset County PA and German. He was in Wyandotte County Ohio in 1850 and here since then.

 

WILLIS S. PUTMAN  Rochester, Fulton County

He is 30 IL Jul 1869, Addie 30 MO Oct 1869, Mildred 7 MS Feb 1893 and John C. 5 IN Apr 1895. He married Jeanie Anderson in St. Joseph County on June 1, 1893. He is a son of John Putman and Sarah Ann Stone from Adams County Illinois and was there in 1880. His dad is a son of Daniel Putman and Lucinda Colbert from Ohio and now Brown County Illinois Southern Putman family.

 

EMMA & MILLIE PUTMAN  Owensville, Gibson County

Emma 29 IN born Jan 1871 and Millie 27 KY born Jun 1872 are listed as daughters of Elizabeth Shulte or Schultz. I don't find them in 1880, so don't know whom Elizabeth was married to.

 

CORA PUTMAN  Princeton, Gibson County

She is 48 IN born Sep 1851, Jesse her son is 20 IN born Feb 1880. She is listed as Flora here in 1910, and her son Jesse is married here by then. They don't appear in 1880 so I have no clues as to her husband.

 

DOUGLAS PUTNAM  Princeton, Gibson County

He is Douglas Perkins Putnam 55 OH born Feb 1845, Jennie Hassert Williamson 60 NY born Apr 1840, John W. (Williamson) 25 MI born Oct 1874, Jennie 22 MI born Dec 1877, Edna 20 MI born Oct 1879. He is a son of Charles Marsh Putnam from Licking County Ohio. He is a Presbyterian Minister. The kids were born in Monroe, Michigan where he preached from 1871 to 1881. He then went to Missouri, and then here to preach in October 1887. Jennie will be widowed in Cass County in 1910, 1920 and 1930.

 

ALLEN PUTMAN  Center Township, Grant County

He is 59 OH born Jan 1840 and living at the National Military Home. He is also listed over in Marshall County Illinois living with his sister Hannah Carter. He is the son of Frederick Putman and was with the family in Peoria, Illinois in 1850 and 1860. He will be discharged from here July 2, 1902 and go to and die in the National Military Home in Danville, Illinois August 25, 1905. He never married.

 

JOHN B. PUTNAM  Center Township, Grant County

He is 59 PA born Jul 1840 and in the National Military Home here. He would be a son of Clark and Mary Putnam from North East Township, Erie County Pennsylvania. He was married and in Shawnee County Kansas in 1870 and Reno County Kansas in 1880. He is here still in 1910.

 

JAMES G. (GARFIELD) PUTNAM  Liberty Township, Hendricks County

He is 23 ME born Apr 1877, Pearl Belle Holden his wife 23 IN born Jul 1876. He is a son of George Alvin Putnam and Lucy Adeline Rea. James was born in Kittery, Maine, but his folks were only there a short while. Before that they were in Lyndeborough, N.H., and then to Andover, Massachusetts, and then his folks moved to Vineland, N.J. His mom will die there and his dad will join him in Washington in 1915. Anyway, James is a physician. He graduated from Loyola University in Chicago, and will be off to Everett, Washington where he will practice for a great many years. His line goes back James G. > George A. > Israel > Aaron > Ephraim > Nathaniel > Benjamin > Nathaniel > John Putnam of Salem, Mass.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  Andrews Township, Huntington County

He is 72 IN born Aug 1827, Elizabeth 65 IN born Jul 1834. One of the Southern Putmans. He is James' son. James senior was from Culpeper County VA. This James has moved over from Whitley County.

 

EDWARD PUTNAM  Union Township, Jasper County

He is 44 IN born Feb 1856, Mary Alice Steward 39 IN born Mar 1861, Rufus P. 19 IN born Oct 1880, Addie M. 17 IN born Jun 1882, Charles M. 12 IN born Oct 1887, Essie M. and Jesse R. twins 10 IN born May 1890. Also there is his father Aaron J. Putnam 86 NY born Aug 1813. They were in Allen County in 1850 and 1860 and then in Newton County in 1870 and 1880. The daughter Addie will marry William O. Williams here on February 11, 1902. Dutch family from New York.

 

BENJAMIN PUTMAN  Michigan City, La Porte County

He is 24 KY born May 1876, and a prisoner in the Indiana State Prison. He is probably the E. B. Putnam, son of Nathan Putnam from Adair County KY in 1880. New England family.

 

W. (WILLIAM) E. PUTNAM  Whiting, Lake County

He is 39 MI Apr 1861, Jennie Wilson 34 ENG Oct 1865, Lizzie 12 WI Oct 1887, Irene 11 MI Apr 1889, Eugene 9 IN Jan 1891 and Edna 7 IN Nov 1893. He was single in South Bend in 1880.

 

JOSEPH PUTNAM  Anderson, Madison County

He is 23 IL MA ENG AUG 1876 and boarding. He is a railroad brakeman. He is a son of Henry Francis Putnam and Ada Isabel Price and was born in Champaign County Illinois August 8, 1876 and will die out in Riverside, California September 25, 1967. His dad was a son of William Pitt Putnam and Minerva Harris from New York and then Illinois. Henry his dad divorced Ada a year after Joseph was born and they were with Minerva in Ogden, Champaign County Illinois in 1880. Henry is out in Oregon now with a new wife. Joe will marry Etta Bond here soon, and then they will move out to Brown County South Dakota and be there by 1910 and through 1930 at least. New England family.

 

FRANK PUTMAN  Center Township, Marion County

He is 44 GER born Oct 1855, Henrette 44 GER born Dec 1855, Carrie 19 OH born Jul 1880, Minnie 17 OH born Jan 1883, Frank 13 OH born Oct 1886, Anna 8 OH born Jul 1891 and Rosa 6 OH born Aug 1894. I don't find them in 1880, but he is probably a brother of the Henry in Cincinnati at the time.

 

AVERY G. PUTMAN  Indianapolis, Marion County

Southern Putman. He is a son of Henry Putman and Mary Alte of Fayette County. He is 31 IN born Apr 1869, Susie P. Linsdale 30 IN born Dec 1869, Ruth 6/12 IN born Nov 1899. They are here in 1910 and in 1920.

 

JAMES P. (PERLEY) PUTNAM  Indianapolis, Marion County

He is 46 VT born April 1854, Maggie Ulrich 41 IN born Feb 1859, Perley M. (a daughter) 17 IN born Mar 1883 and Harry L. (Leonard) 14 IN born Nov 1885. He is a son of Horace Putnam and Marianna Antoinette Woodward, and was shown at home with them in the 1860 census in Northfield, Washington County Vermont. Horace was from Franconia, NH a son of Perley Putnam and Mary Ann Cole. He married Maggie here June 19, 1876. They were here in 1880.

 

JAMES PUTNAM  West Township, Marshall County

He is 51 MI (really Ohio) born Nov 1848, Emeline Rough 41 MI born Jul 1858, Alvah E. 21 MI born Feb 1879. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Susan Linniger from Hancock County Ohio. In 1860 and 1870 he was in Fulton County Indiana with his folks. He was in Berrien County Michigan in 1880, and back here now.

 

HEZEKIAH PUTMAN  Peru, Miami County

He is 42 MD born May 1858, Martha A. Wilkinson 37 IN born Mar 1863, Omer E. 11 MO born Jun 1888, Roy A. 10 IN born Nov 1889 and John F. 10/12 IN born Jul 1899. He is part of the German gang from Frederick County Maryland. His folks were Samuel Putman and Elizabeth Ann Fisher. He was single at home in 1880. He married Laura Alice Stiner June 28, 1887. She died in the early 1890s. They moved to Missouri and opened a General Store. That didnít work out, so they moved to here and works repairing Railroad trains. After Laura died, he married Martha Ann Wilkinson here in Indiana on November 25, 1896. He will still be here in 1910 and 1920.

 

ROSE PUTMAN  Bloomington, Monroe County

She is 10 IN born Dec 1889 and the adopted daughter of Maggie Hodges.

 

CHESTER PUTNAM  Crawfordsville, Montgomery County

He is 27 IL born Jan 8, 1873, Lottie Matheny 23 IL born Nov 1876, Luther E. 4 IL born Nov 1895 and Ralph W. 2 IL born Aug 1898. He is a son of Luther Putnam from Licking County Ohio (and a grandson of Charles Marsh Putnam). Chester Curtis was with his folks in 1880 in Champaign County Illinois where he was born. He married Lottie there September 15, 1894. They are in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1910 and Chester is widowed in Bell County Texas in 1920. He works as a mechanic for the railroad is why he travels so much.

 

LYDIA PUTNAM  Albion, Noble County

She is 63 OH Mar 1837 and living alone. She is Lydia Rice, the widow of Erastus Putnam who died here August 4, 1894. She will die here October 9, 1905. There were here in Noble County in 1880. He was originally from Monroe County Michigan.

 

M. (MARTHA) O. PUTNAM  Valpariso, Porter County

She is 41 IN born Oct 1858, Harry 16 IN born Aug 1883, Zada 13 IN born Jun 1886. Martha and Harry are in Curry County New Mexico in 1910, and then in Chicago by 1930. In looking at the 1910 New Mexico, I figured Martha was married to Henry R. Putnam, a son of Harrison and Christine Putnam from Winnebago County Wisconsin. He was in Curry County with a new wife Henrietta. In 1920 Henry is in Wichita Falls, Texas and Zada is there with him and this ties Henry and Martha together. Interesting.

 

RUFUS PUTNAM  Mt. Vernon, Posey County

He is 28 KY born Nov 1871 and boarding. He is a son of Adrian and Jane Putnam from Meade County Kentucky and was with them in 1880. The family was from Massachusetts before settling in Louisville for several generations. He will marry Nora Mills here in a couple of weeks on June 27, 1900. They will be here in 1910 and in Vanderburgh County in 1920.

 

EMERY PUTMAN  Anderson, Rush County

He is 25 IN born Jan 1875 and boarding. He is a son of Henry Putman from Fayette County. Part of the Southern family up from Kentucky. Henry was Joseph's son

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Mishawaka, St. Joseph County

He is 32 MI born Sep 1867, Hattie 31 NY born Feb 1869. They have been married 6 years. No children, but do have a bunch of boarders. He looks to be the son of Ira and Rosamond Putnam from Cass County Michigan. He was shown at home in 1870.

 

ALVA B. PUTNAM  South Bend, St. Joseph County

He is 52 IN born April 1848. He is boarding. He is Alva Jr., his dad's from Massachusetts. He was born in Marshall County and has been in St. Joseph since 1860. He was married to Lydia Miser here in the 1870s and widowed by 1880. In 1910, he is in Washington DC still by himself.

 

LUCY A. PUTNAM  South Bend, St. Joseph County

She is 77 NY Jan 1823 and the mother in law of David Lobbell, who married her daughter Lillian. She is Lucy Ann Lobbell, the widow of Alva B. Putnam from Massachusetts and was here with him back in 1850.

 

CARRIE H. PUTNAM  Angola, Steuben County

She is 53 IN born Dec 1846, and lives alone. She is Carrie Jarrard (Girard) who married Charles Putman here on October 29, 1885. She is here in 1910 and in 1920.

 

MATILDA PUTMAN  Jefferson Township, Sullivan County

She is 53 IN born Sep 1846 and living with her daughter Fanny Douthitt

 

EDWARD C. PUTMAN  Evansville, Vanderburgh County

He is 40 NH born Feb 1860, Lillian 30 PA born June 1869.

 

RUFUS E. PUTMAN  Terre Haute, Vigo County

He is 32 KY OH KY born Jan 1868 and lodging. I don't find him in Kentucky or here

 

WILLIAM H. PUTMAN  Noble Township, Wabash County

He is 50 IN Oct 1849 and boarding. He is a son of George and Elizabeth Putman and has been here all his life. George was from New Hampshire and was here in the 1840s. He died and his mom, Elizabeth, married George's brother Joseph. All these various parents are now off in Heaven or somewhere.

 

JOSEPH PUTMAN  Waltz Township, Wabash County

He is Joseph Squire Putnam and has been here all his life. His dad (George Putnam) was from New Hampshire. He is now 47 IN born Jan 1853, Alice Stoops his wife is 38 IN born Oct 1861, William and Edward, twins, 17 IN born Feb 1883, Ethel 15 IN born Mar 1885, Homer 11 IN born Oct 1888, Lawrence 9 IN born Jul 1890, Roy (Leroy) 8 IN born Apr 1892, Blanche 5 IN born Mar 1895 and Geneva 3 IN born May 1897. Looks like Alice has been pregnant every day of her life, no wonder they haven't been able to move. They will have another son, Warren, in 1902 and then that will be that.

 

OLLIE PUTNAM  Williamsport, Warren County

He is 14 IN born Dec 1885. He is in the Warren County Orphan's Home

 

CHARLES PUTMAN  Skelton Township, Warwick County

He is 32 IN born Feb 1867, Anna Davis his wife is 22 IN born May 1878 and Frances 5/12 IN born Dec 1899. He is Charles Michael ĎMackí Putman a son of James Putman and Mary Jane ĎBelleí Powers. He was born in Rockport, Spencer County Indiana February 28, 1867. They will move soon to Morehouse, New Madrid County Missouri and be there for the rest of their lives. Then, just as a matter of interest, my ggggfather Daniel Putman went up to Warwick County Indiana from Kentucky and South Carolina before that. His wife was Prudy Skelton, and several of her brothers went here with Daniel and his family. Skelton Township is named after her brother Zachariah Skelton, and a generation or two later, a descendent of his, Red Skelton the comedian, was born here. Daniel by the way was a judge in Warwick County.

 

CHARLES PUTMAN  Jefferson Township, Whitley County

A Southern Putman guy, son of Joseph and Eliza Putman, is still here. He is now 49 IN born Aug 1850. Emma has died December 25, 1897. He has a daughter Rosa 11 IN born Feb 1889 with him. He will be remarried in 1910 and 1920 and be in Fort Wayne, Allen County. Charles was born August 20, 1850 and will die here July 16, 1930.

 

PERRY PUTMAN  Jefferson Township, Whitley County

He is a son of Charles and Emma also living nearby. He is 28 IN born Jul 1871, Effie A. 25 IN born Oct 1874, Merle D. 8 IN born Feb 1892, Joseph L. 6 IN born Jan 1894 and Solon G. 2 IN born Nov 1897.

He is 59 IN IN IN, his second wife Rose King (married 1 year) is 29 IN. They are here in 1920 and 1930 too. He is a son of son of Joseph Putman and Eliza Conklin from Fayette County. He was married to Emma in 1880 in Whitely County and widowed there in 1900. Charles was born August 20, 1850 and will die July 16, 1930. is second wife Rosa King will be born soon in 1881 and will die here in 1954.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Fort Wayne, Allen County

He is 42 OH PA OH, Allie his wife of 13 years is 32 OH. Also here are her folks Garrett and Lydia Van Arsdel or something like that. He is a son of William and Susan Putman from Dublin, Mercer County Ohio. He was home there in 1870 and in Adams County Indiana in 1880. German family from Pennsylvania. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920 and 1930.

 

JENNIE PUTNAM  Logansport, Cass County

She is 70 NY, Mary A. 38 OH, John W. 35 MI, Edna E. 30 MI. She is Jennie Hassert Williamson, widow of Douglas Perkins Putnam from here in Logansport. He was a Minister, and a son of Charles Marsh Putnam of Licking County Indiana. They were in Monroe County Michigan in 1880, then they went to Springfield, Missouri till 1887, and then in October 1887, went back to Gibson County Indiana, and then to Logansport, Indiana where he died. She will still be here in 1920.

 

JOHN J. PUTTMAN  New Point Township, Decatur County

He is 52 IN GER GER, Hester E. his wife of 32 years is 55 IN, Elva D. 26 IN, Leona L. (Lucy) 23 IN, and Clara C. 26 IN. They were here in 1880 and 1900. He will be here with a new wife in 1920. He is a son of John and Christina Puttmann from Germany.

 

CLYDE PUTTMAN  Salt Creek Township, Decatur County

He is 29 IN IN IN, Anna V. 29 IL (they have been married 7 years), Joseph J. 6 IL, Charles E. 4 IN, Walter 1 IN. He is a son of John and Hester and was born here. He and Anna are here in 1920.

 

BURR K. (KELLOGG) PUTNAM  Goshen, Elkhart County

He is 52 NY MA NY, Nellie Crane his wife of 28 years is 47 MI. He is a son of Charles Putnam from Lenawee County Michigan. He was home there in 1880, and married in St. Joseph County Michigan in 1900. They are here still in 1920. He is a freight agent.

 

HENRY PUTMAN  Fairview Township, Fayette County

He is 72 IN KY KY, and Mary Alte his wife of 40 years is 66 KY KY KY. He is a son of Joseph Putman and Eliza Conklin from here. Been here all his life. He will die here April 22, 1919, and Mary August 27, 1927.

 

ANDREW PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

He is 25 IN, but the page wasnít photocopied in full, so canít get any other details. Anyway, he is a son of David and Melissa Jane Putman from here. In 1920 he is here, and has a wife Dollie Smith who would be 22 now and a daughter Helen who would be 1 now. He and his family are with his dad in 1920. German family from Pennsylvania.

 

DAVID PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

He is now 51 IN OH OH, Melissa Jane his wife of 28 years is now 48 IN, Folen 18 IN, Velda 13 IN. Also here are his son Claud 20 IN and his wife Blanche Riley 19 IN. Claude married Blanche here February 18, 1909. David and Melissa are here in 1920.

 

IRA PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

He is 41 IN OH OH, Livonia, his wife of 18 years, is 38 IN. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Susan Linninger. They were in Hancock County and all here in Fulton County by the 1880. She is 56 IN and still widowed as she was in 1900. She is listed as a servant with Lewis Parker, and lives next door to her son Jesse.

 

JESSE PUTMAN  Patoka Township, Gibson County

He is 30 IN IN IN and married to Mary his wife of 9 years. She is 23 KY, Linette 8 IN and Thelma 1 4/12 IN. He was listed with his mother Flora in Princeton, Gibson County in 1900. But as I canít find them in 1880, no clues as to his daddy. Mary is widowed and has the two daughters with her in Craighead County Arkansas in 1920.

He is 69 PA CT PA and widowed. He is in the National Home for Disabled Soldiers, and was here in 1900. He is a son of Clark and Mary Putnam from North East Township, Erie County Pennsylvania. He was married and in Shawnee County Kansas in 1870 and Reno County Kansas in 1880

He is 32 MI IN MI, Nellie his wife of 10 years is 30 IN. He is a son of James Putman and Emeline Rough. He was born in Berrien County Michigan and was there in 1880. By 1900 the family had come back to Marshall County Indiana. In 1920, Alvah will be in Eaton County Michigan.

He is now 59 WI NY PA, Mary E. his wife of 31 years is 53 IL, Donald W. 26 OH, Catherine W. 20 IN, Alta B. 16 IN. They were in Fountain County in 1900 and will be here in 1920. He is a son of Lafayette Putnam and Almeda Dustin. He was home in 1850 in Milwaukee, and then in Marshall County Illinois in 1860 and St. Louis, Missouri in 1870. He was married to Mary Elizabeth there in 1880, and then they came up to Indiana about 1890. He is a foreman at a plaster plant. They are in Indianapolis until they die, she in 1919 and he in 1921.

He is 42 IL IL IL and a college professor at Butler University. His wife Eleanor Boston is 38 IL and they have been married 14 years. Their son Russell C. is 12 IL. Her mother Mary M. Boston 66 IL is with them as she was in 1900 back in Morgan County Illinois. They are also here in 1920. He is a son of Daniel Webster Putman from Brown County Illinois. Part of the Southern Putman family.

He is 41 IN IN KY, and is a shipping clerk in an automotive factory.  Susie Linsdale his wife of 19 years is 41 IN, Ruth J. 10 IN and Roy L. 7 IN. They were here in 1900, and are here in 1920. He is a son of Henry Putman and Mary Alte of Fayette County. Southern Putman family.

He is 56 IA (IL) NY NY and runs a boarding house. Ida his wife of 20 years, both on their second marriages, is 43 OH. He lists himself as born in IL in 1920. I donít find them anywhere in 1900, but they are here again in 1920 and 1930.

He is 24 IN MA IN, his wife Mary Marcella Murphy is 22 IN, they have been married 5 years (January 23, 1906), and they have Norbert J. 2 IN. He is a son of James Perley and Maggie Putnam from here in Indianapolis. He was home here in 1900 and will still be here in 1920.

 

JAMES P. (PERLEY) PUTMAN  Indianapolis W13, Marion County

He is now 56 VT VT VT, Maggie A. Ulrich is 52 IN, and they have been married 32 years. He is a son of Horace Putnam and Marianna Antoinette Woodward, and was shown at home with them in the 1860 census in Northfield, Washington County Vermont. Horace was from Franconia, NH a son of Perley Putnam and Mary Ann Cole. He married Maggie here June 19, 1876. Maggie will be widowed here in 1920.

 

SYLVESTER PUTNAM  Lost River Township, Martin County

He is 62 IL IL IL and now widowed. His wife Sarah has died in the past decade. His daughter Vinia A. is now 18 IN, Raymond 15 IN and Sylvester R. 9 IN. He is a son of Sylvester and Elizabeth Putnam from Wabash County Illinois and a grandson of Samuel from New Hampshire. They were here in Dubois County in 1900, and in 1920 he will be living with his daughter Sylvinia and her husband Horace McGrady in Pike County.

 

WARREN PUTNAM  Lost River Township, Martin County

He is a son of Sylvester and Sarah Putnam, and is now listed with no age working on a farm. He will be married in Orange County in 1920.

 

HEZEKIAH PUTMAN  Peru, Miami County

He is now 51 MD MD MD, Martha Wilkinson his second wife of 13 years is 41 IN and John F. 10 IN. He is part of the German gang from Frederick County Maryland. His folks were Samuel Putman and Elizabeth Ann Fisher. He was single at home in 1880. He married Laura Alice Stiner June 28, 1887. She died in the mid 1890s. They had moved to Missouri and opened a General Store. That didnít work out, so they moved to here and works repairing Railroad trains. After Laura died, he married Martha Ann Wilkinson here in Indiana on November 25, 1896, and they were here in 1900. He will be in Miami County in 1920.

They are kids of Hezekiah Putman and his first wife Laura Stiner. Omer is 21 MO, Roy is 20 IN. They live with their grandparents William and Ann Stiner. Roy will be in Wabash County in 1920, and Omer will be in New York City.

He is 38 KY IN KY, Nora Mills his wife of 10 years is 34 IN, Lela R. 6 IN and Rufus A. 3 IN. He is a son of Adrian and Jane Putnam from Meade County Kentucky and was with them in 1880. The family was from Massachusetts before settling in Louisville for several generations. He was here in 1900 and will be in Vanderburgh County in 1920 and 1930.

He is 35 ME ME ME, and his wife of four years (her second marriage) Marion is 37 RI. He is a son of Black Hawk Putnam of Houlton, Aroostook County Maine. He has been working for the Telephone Company in South Bend, Indiana for a bunch of years. He will be in Chicago in 1920 and die there February 23, 1922.

She is Carrie Jarrard 62 IN NY OH and divorced. She was here living alone in 1900 and will still be in 1920. She had married Charles Putnam in 1885 and they were divorced by 1900. I believe she was previously married to a Jarrard as in 1920 her son Fred Jarrard is with her. Still no idea who Charles was though.

 

ELVIN PUTMAN  Steuben Township, Steuben County

He is 32 MI MI NY, Nellie his wife of 7 years is 30 OH and they have Carl 5 IN. He is a son of Henry Orlin Putnam and Emily Mains from Sunfield, Eaton County Michigan. He was home there in 1880 and 1900. He is also listed by himself in Portage County Wisconsin, away from home on business working on a dredge. They are back in Eaton County in 1920.

He is indexed as Ferry, 29 MI MI NY, Ina his wife of 5 years is 25 IN, a son Marion 3 IN (MI), and Neil 1 1/12 IN. He is a son of Jay Thomson Putman and Catherine Stone from Jackson, Michigan. He was home there in 1900, and got married there in 1905. Something happens to him, as by 1920 Ina is widowed with the kids in Branch County Michigan.

He is 59 IN and single as always. He lives with Arthur Mullen as an uncle.

He is 24 IN Minnie Cook his wife of 5 years 24 IN, Ruth 4 IN and a daughter just born. They were married in Lake County August 3, 1906. This was a very hard page to read. He lives right next to his uncle William. He is a son of Joseph and Alice from here. He will be in Wabash City in 1920 and his uncle William will be with him then.

 

JOSEPH PUTNAM  Pleasant Township, Wabash County

He is now 57 IN NH IN, his wife Alice Stoops is now 49 IN, Leroy 17 IN, Blanche 15 IN, Geneva 12 IN. And grandchildren Warren 8 IN, Raymond 8 IN and Marie 5 IN. The kids were children of their daughter Ethel who married Ovid Tyner in 1900 and then died in 1907. Joseph adopted the two kids. Been here all his life, a son of George Putnam from New Hampshire who came here way back when. He married Alice here on November 4, 1880.

He is 38 IL OH IL. Ada May Smyth his wife of 19 years is 39 IL, David 10 IL and John 6 IL. He is a son of David and Susan Putman from Vermillion County Illinois. He was home there in 1880 and married in Champaign County Illinois in 1900. They will be in Logan County Ohio in 1920. Southern Putman family out of Virginia through Kentucky.

This one is German, a son of Zachariah Putman and Margaret Hines from Van Wert County Ohio. He was there in 1900. He is now 21 OH and a son in law of Albert Furthmiller. His wife Margaret Furthmiller 19 IN is there as well. They were married here December 25, 1919. They are in Adams, Allen County in 1930.

 

CHARLES E. PUTMAN  Fort Wayne, Allen County

Seems everyone named Charlie lives here nowadays. This one is 51 OH and a nephew of Solomon Wise. He is a son of William and Susan Putman from Dublin, Mercer County Ohio, and Pennsylvania before that. They were in Adams County Indiana in 1880. His brother George is in Wayne now. In 1930 Charles will be living here with his brother George. Pennsylvania German family.

She is 33 IN and living as a sister in law with Roy Hodgins. She is a daughter of John and Hester and was in Decatur County in 1900. With this spelling, you should know who she belongs to. Lots of Ts and Ns. She is here in 1930 as well.

He is 53 OH, Allie 43 OH. Her folks Garett 72 OH and Eliza 71 OH Van Andall are with them. They were here in Fort Wayne in 1900 and 1910. He is a son of William and Susan Putman from Dublin, Mercer County Ohio, and Pennsylvania before that. They were in Adams County Indiana in 1880. He and Allie are in Fort Wayne in 1930 and his brother Charles will be with them. Pennsylvania German family.

He is a son of the above John Puttmann and his first wife Rebecca. Clyde is 39 IL, Anna 39 IL, Joseph 15 IL, Charles 14 IN and Walter 13 IN. He was married here in 1910.

 

EMERY PUTNAM  Center Township, Delaware County

One of the Southern Branch. He is a son of Henry from Fayette County and was in Rush County in 1900, and single at that time. He is 43 IN, Ruba Rees his wife is 40 IN and Dortha 6 IN. Ah yes, another aside. People from Indiana pronounce 'E' and 'I' like 'A', so Missouri is pronounced Massura, etc. In 1930 he is spelled Emra. I am certain the names above are Ruby and Dorothy, but the census taker used phonetics here.

 

TIMOTHY S. PUTMAN  Elkhart, Elkhart County

Part of the PA German family. He is a son of Alexander and Mary Putman from Mercer County Ohio, and was with them in 1900 and single there in 1910. He is 29 OH, Lillian D. Crist 23 IN, Clifford L. R. 3 8/12 IN and Lucille M. 1 4/12 IN. They are here in 1930.

 

BURR PUTMAN  Goshen, Elkhart County

He is 63 NY, Nellie Crane 52 MI. He is a son of Charles Putnam from Lenawee County Michigan. He was home there in 1880, and married in St. Joseph County Michigan in 1900. They were here in 1910.  His dad was from Massachusetts. They are in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1930. Retired and with their married daughter Dianna Rowell. He will die there in 1938 and Nellie in 1955.

 

DAVID PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

Jacob's son is still here, PA German family. He is now 62 IN, Melissa Jane 58 IN, Andrew J. 35 IN is also there and has his wife Dollie E. Smith 32 IN, and Helen W. 11 IN, Mary Jane 9 IN, Marjorie 7 IN and David J. 4 3/12 IN. Both David and Andrew are widowed here in 1930.

 

FOLEN A. PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

He is David and Melissa's son, and was home in 1900 and 1910. They are from the PA German family. At any rate, Folen is 27 IN, Marie M. Powell his wife 25 IN, Eva 3 5/12 IN, Marvin 1 11/12 IN and Irene 1/12 IN. They were married here December 24, 1915.

 

JOSEPH PUTMAN  Henry Township, Fulton County

Peter's son has been here since coming over from Ohio a long time ago. He is now 70 OH and still living alone. He is here still single in 1930 at age 81. Everyone in this county is from the PA German family.

 

EDWARD PUTMAN  Princeton, Gibson County

He is 45 TN, Willie Melton his wife 35 MS, Malvena 14 AL and Edward Jr. 4 TN. He is a son of William C. Putnam and Catherine Dodge of Knox County Tennessee and was there in 1880 through 1910. Edward Dodge Putnam was single in 1910 and married Willie about 1914. She was born in Mississippi May 9, 1881 and was married before to a Martin before and Malvena is hers from that first marriage. In 1910 Willie was with her family in Birmingham, Alabama. Edward was born in Knoxville, Tennessee December 17, 1873 and will die in Birmingham September 6, 1931. The family is originally from New Hampshire and Massachusetts before that. Now as another little aside.... My great great great grandfather Daniel Putman is buried here in Princeton. He was a lawyer and then a Judge and was responsible for forming Gibson County out of Knox County back in 1814. Dan was a Judge in Gibson County up till influenza got both him and his son Thomas in 1816. Just a passing note.

She is Cora Flickinger 40 MI and has Truman 17 IN and Bernice 11 IN. She is here in 1930. She wasnít in the 1910. In 1930 Truman is with his father William Putnam in Pomona California. William is a son of Joseph Squire Putnam and Alice Stoops from Wabash County Indiana. Truman was born November 22, 1903 and will die in Los Angeles County California November 8, 1957.

 

NORMAN B. PUTNAM  Marion, Grant County

He is 32 OH, Sina 31 OH, Mary E. 7 IN. Also there is Anne Stevens 55 IN who might be Sina's mom, but is not listed as such. Norman is a son of Solomon and Mary Putman from Van Wert County Ohio. He is from the PA German family. They are in Fort Wayne in 1930.

He is 24 OH, Norma D. Harp 26 OH and Marietta J. 1 8/12 IN. He is a son of Willis and Arlene Putman and was in Van Wert County Ohio in 1900. They are German from Pennsylvania.

He is 22 IL, Nellie 18 IL. He is a son of Charles and Anna Putnam of Champaign County Illinois. His mother Anna has married Arden Stoner and his sister Elizabeth 15 IL is with them here in Gary. They will head to Michigan where their son Douglas will be born in a few months. By 1930 they are in Indianapolis where he runs a car dealership.

She is 15 IL and living with her mother Anna and her new husband Arden Stoner. Anna Mae McDonald was the widow of Charles Putnam of Champaign County Illinois. Elizabeth's brother Douglas is here as well.

He is 58 MI, his wife Jennie E. Wilson 54 ENG, and Howard Eugene 29 IN. Jennie's mom, Elizabeth Wilson 76 ENG, is with them. He was here in 1900. In 1880 he was with his parents, William and Mary both from Canada) in Wells Township, Tuscola County Michigan.

She is the widow of James Perley Putnam from Vermont and was here in 1900. She is 61 IN and living as a mother in law with Fred Schoettle who married her daughter Perley here February 24, 1903. See the 1900 listing for who James Perley Putnam was. She is still here in 1930.

 

HEZEKIAH H. PUTMAN  Ridgeview, Miami County

Sam's son is still here. He is now 61 MD, Martha Ann Wilkinson 56 IN, John F. 20 IN and Roy A. 30 IN. Roy is listed last, probably as he has another listing in Wabash County in this census. Their other son, Omer Edward is in New York City now. I donít find the folks in 1930, but John is in Berkley California then teaching at the University of California.

He is 64 IN and Mary is 59 IN. He is a son of Aaron Putman from Allen County. New York Dutch family. They were here in 1880 and in Jasper County in 1900. He is widowed in Jasper County in 1930.

He is a son of Sylvester Jr. and was at home in Dubois County in 1900, and married in Martin County in 1910. He is now 31 IN, Daisy 25 IN and Glenn 5 IN. His dad is in Pike County now.

He was in Dubois County in 1900, and in Martin County in 1910. He is a son of Sylvester and Elizabeth and was in Wabash County in 1840 and on. He is now 71 IL and living as the father in law of Horace McGrady. Horace married his daughter Sylvania.

He should be the son of Eber and Jennette Putnam as shown in 1900 in Geneva, Van Buren County Michigan. They are here in 1930.

She is 72 IN NY NJ and widowed living with her son Fred Jarrard 49 IN OH IN. Also here is her brother William Palmer 60 IN NY NJ. She was married to a Jarrard and then in 1885 married Charles Putnam. She was single and divorced here in 1900 and in 1910. I donít know who Charles was though.

He is 27 KY, Bertha L. Buchanan 25 KY, Vivian 2 10/12 IN. Also there is Bertha's mom, Millie Buchanan 52 KY.  They are here in 1930 too. He is 48 KY, Nora Mills his wife is 43 IN, Lela B. 17 IN, Rufus J. 13 IN, Robert R. 6 IN and a nephew, Guy H. 34 IN. Rufus is a son of Adrien Putnam from Meade County Kentucky. He was with his folks in 1880 and in Posey County in 1900 and 1910. He married Nora in Posey County on June 27 1900. They are here in 1930. Guy is a son of his brother James Lewis Putnam and his first wife. James has been in McCracken County Kentucky since the 1890s and will be till he dies in 1936.

He is 34 IN and living with Rufus P. Putnam as a nephew. Guy is a son of Rufusí brother James Lewis Putnam and his first wife. James has been in McCracken County Kentucky since the 1890s and will be till he dies in 1936. He is on his third wife now. I donít have the name of Guyís mother, but she was from Indiana.

He is a son of Joseph Putnam from here. He is 27 IN, Geneva Arnold his wife is 29 IN and Arnold 1 6/12 IN. They are in Pomona California in 1930.

He is 37 IN, Maude 31 IN, Ruth 14 IN, Alice 2 7/12 IN, Martha 1 2/12 IN. He is a son of Joseph and Alice from here. His father's brother William 69 IN is here as well. William and Joseph were sons of Joseph and Elizabeth who were from New Hampshire and here since the 1860s. He was in Noble Township in 1910 and married to Minnie Cook who would be 34 no. So, Maude is a second wife. They are here in 1930.

He is a son of Joseph Squire Putnam. Originally New Hampshire folks. Look back to about 1860 for the story. He is 29 IN, May A. 22 IN, Betty L. 1 9/12 IN. His sister in law Belle Geible 31 IN is with them. They are moving to Chicago in the next couple of years and are there in 1930.

He is 30 IN and listed as a cousin of Lucy Striver. He is a son of Hezekiah Putnam and his first wife Alice Steiner. He was born in Miami County and was there in 1900 and 1910. He will be married in Indianapolis in 1930. German family from Maryland.

He was married to Emma in 1880 in Whitely County and widowed there in 1900. He married Rose in 1909 and has been here ever since. Charles was born August 20, 1850 and will die July 16, 1930. Rose King was born soon in 1881 and will die in 1954.

He is a purchasing agent for an electrical company. He is 33 MI MI CAN. His wife Agnes Mees is 34 KS and they have Mary A. 9 OH, Gerald F. 6 OH, Loretta 5 IN and twins Robert E. and Richard H. 2 IN. Her brother Frank Mees 26 KS is with them. Edward is a son of Charles Eleazer Putnam and Stella LaLonde from Lapeer County Michigan and then Alcona County Michigan where Edward was born. According to his WWI draft registration, he was born in Black River, Alcona County May 9, 1896. His WWII registration in 1942 has him and Agnes living here at 2930 Oliver Street and working for Fruehauf Trailer Trucking. Agnes is a daughter of Henry and Louisa Mees, and was born in Jackson County Kansas in October 1895 and will die in 1964. Edward will die in Geneva, Florida January 15, 1981. His dad Charles was a son of Sidney Putnam from Lapeer County and grandson of Eleazer Putnam from Augusta, New York and Massachusetts before that. The son Robert Edward will die in 1940 of rheumatic Fever. The son Richard Henry will marry Dolores Jordan. She was born December 4, 1929 in Fort Wayne and will die December 26, 2009 in Lake. George, Coldwater, Branch County Michigan. Richard will die there September 27, 2004. New England family.

He is 40 IN IN IN and drives an ice truck. His second wife Ethel Hill is 27 IN. He has Oscar 17 IN (OK), Sidney 16 IN (KS) and Forest 13 IN (KS). These were by his first wife Dora Ellen Alexander who he married about 1912 in Oklahoma. She died in 1919 in Wann, Oklahoma. He married Ethel here November 24, 1920. Then with Ethel he has Edward 8 IN and Lecta L. 7/12 IN. He is a son of the following Edward and Mary Alice Putman. He was home here with his folks in 1900 and I donít find him in 1910. In 1920 he is widowed in Nowata County Oklahoma with the first 3 kids. I have put their actual birthplaces in parentheses. Charles Morgan Putnam was born in Indiana October 22, 1887 and will die March 1, 1983 here in Rensselaer. His first wife Dora was also from Indiana. Now, Sidney is also listed in Lake County with kinfolk.

Also here are his son Norbert Joseph Putnam 22 IN, his wife Dorothy Catherine Sapp 20 IN and their son William 6/12 IN. Then there are his married daughter Mary Rosalyn 19 IN, her husband William J. Spillman 21 IN and their daughter Mary Jo 1 IA. Must be a big house, and he only rents it. He is a son of James Perley and Maggie Putnam from here in Indianapolis. Dad is from Vermont, they were here in 1900. His widowed mother is still here in town.

He is 65 IL IL IL. His wife Eleanor Boston is 58 IL and her mother Mary Boston 83 IL is still with them. They have been here since the early 1900s. James is a son of Daniel Webster Putman from Brown County Illinois. They are part of the Southern Putman Branch. He is a College Dean at Butler University and will become President in 1934. He will be here until he dies January 23, 1940. His son Russell is currently a college professor in Cleveland.

He is a son of William Tasker Putnam and Lillie Estavilla McGahan from Maine and Massachusetts before that. The son William Earl Jr. was born August 1, 1913 and will die here May 12, 1971. He will marry Bessie F. Taylor. She was born April 23, 1914 and will also die here February 10, 2009.

There is also Ernest Cramer 33 IN and divorced here, but I canít decipher the relationship, but think just a lodger. Alva is a farmer. He is a son of James Putman and Emmeline Rough from here. Both guys are sons of Thomas Putman and his first wife Nancy White from Shawnee, Gallatin County Illinois. Jesse was first married to Lucy Rogers and after she died he married Rosie Lin Lester October 2, 1924. Southern Putman family that descends from Laban Putman from South Carolina and then Kentucky and Illinois.

 

WALTER PUTMAN  Skelton, Warrick County

He is 45 IL IL IL and works on his brotherís farm. His wife Nannie Lester is 33 KY and they have Marjorie 5 IN and Walter E. 3 IN. Couple of brothers marrying a couple of sisters. Walter was first married Susan Ledbetter. He married Nannie October 24, 1922. Little aside here. These guys descend from Laban Putman who was a brother of my gggrandfather Daniel. Daniel married Prudence Skelton in South Carolina and in 1805 moved to Kentucky and then to Indiana in about 1812. Daniel was a Judge and helped form Warrick County out of Knox County in 1815. Several other Skeltons went here with him. Skelton Township is named after Zachariah Skelton, and a generation or two later, a descendent of his, Red Skelton the comedian, was born here.

 

GUY PUTMAN  Columbia, Whitley County

He is Solon Guy Putman son of Perry Putman from here in Whitley County. He is now 32 IN IN IN and a concrete worker. Mabel his wife is 32 IN and they have Eda 9 IN, Robert 6 IN, Betty 4 IN. They were in Jefferson in 1920 near his folks.
