IOWA 1920 CENSUS

 

EMMA N. PUTNAM  Colony, Adams County

She is 73 VT and the mother in law of Wilmer D. Crouse. Emma Robertson is the ex-wife and now widow of Adney Putnam. She says she is widowed as she did in 1910. They were here in 1870 through 1900 and she was here in 1910 with her daughter Flossie, who has since married Wilmer Crouse. In 1910 though Adney was back in Vermont with a wife named Nancy. She will be with her then widowed daughter Minnie Belding in Taylor County Iowa in 1930.

 

WALTER A. (ADNEY) PUTNAM  Colony, Adams County

He is 46 IA VT VT, his wife Grace N. Boyer is 40 IA VA VA, and they have Il L. 17 IA, Lela B. 16 IA and a son Leslie D. 12 IA. He is a son of Adney Putnam and Emma Robertson from Vermont first and then here in Adams County. They are in Union County in 1925 and 1930, maybe longer.

 

HARRY PUTNAM  Carl Township, Adams County

Adney and Emma's son was born here. He is 39 IA, Daisy M. Boyer, his wife, 35 IA, Francis a son 10 IA and Mildred 6 IA. They were here in 1910, and will be in Warren County by 1930.

 

LLOYD PUTMAN  Postville, Allamakee County

He is 29 IA and boarding with James Steele. He is a son of Surreno and Emma Putman and was at home in Winneshiek County in 1900, and here in 1910. He will be married by 1930.

 

WILLARD PUTNAM  Cincinnati, Appanoose County

He is a son of William Putman and Mary Nelson and was home with them in 1880 in Adams County, and was here with Bertha in 1910. He is now 47 IA, Bertha E. Burr 44 IA and Earl 16 IA. They are here in 1930 too. Southern Putmans.

 

MARY M. PUTMAN  Taylor Township, Appanoose County

She is 47 IA and says she is widowed, but is really divorced. Her daughter Gladys in 16 IA. Mary Miller was married to John J. Putnam in Appanoose County in 1900, and she was divorced here by 1910. She is in Mahaska County in 1925 and back here in 1930. John was a son of John Abraham Putnam and Anna Briggs from Appanoose County and Vermont before that.

 

GEORGE J. (JACOB) PUTMAN  Cedar Falls, Black Hawk County

He is 65 WI, Ida Huyck 69 IL. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Mary Jane Marr from Waushara County, Wisconsin.

 

LOUIS O. (ORVILLE) PUTNAM  Albert, Buena Vista County

He is a son of Benjamin Augustus and was here in 1900 and 1910, and in Boone County where he was born up until then. He is now 53 IA, Anna E. Kemp 61 IL, and a stepdaughter Jennie J. Smith 32 IA is with him. Jennie is Anna's daughter and Anna is his second wife. In 1900 and 1910 he was married to Martha Pray. His son Earl lives here in the county as well.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Storm Lake, Buena Vista County

He is 37 IL, Elizabeth Van Housen his wife 37 OH and they have Mary 11 IN. He is a son of Frank Austin Putnam and Arabella Foss. He was home in Chicago, Illinois in 1900. They are here in 1925

 

EARL F. (FRANCIS) PUTNAM  Coon Township, Buena Vista County

He is a son of Louis Orville and Martha Putnam and was here in 1900. He is now 28 IA, Jennie Wendt his wife 28 NE, Hazel 3 6/12 IA and Homer 6/12 IA. There is an unrelated Chumbley family living with them. They are here in 1925 and 1930.

 

GEORGE W. PUTNAM  Greene Township, Butler County

He is 34 IA, Edith Nettleton 33 IA, Gerald E. 7 IA and Elizabeth S. 3 8/12 IA. He is a son of Marshall and Betsy Putnam, and was in Pottawattamie County in 1900. He and Edith were just married in Floyd County in 1910.

 

BARNEY PUTTMANN  Carroll, Carroll County

He is 63 IA, Ida his wife is 48 IA. He must be connected to the upcoming Bernard Puttman. This Bernard was here in 1900 and listed as Barney then. Various Barnard Putmans from Germany have been here since the 1850s, but none have shown any connection even though there just has to be. I assume this Barney is a son of the elder Barney from Germany.

 

BERNARD PUTTMAN  Carroll, Carroll County

He is 93 GER and living with Joseph Hannasch as a father in law. Joseph married his daughter Karolina. He has been here since the 1870s. In 1900 he was listed Barney (for Barnard) and I would guess the Barney listed earlier is his son. Barnard was born in Dorsten Westphalia on January 9, 1828. He came with his parents to Wisconsin in April 1845. He married Sybilla Timp there on April 27, 1852. They then came here in mid May 1856.

 

JAMES R. (RUFUS) PUTNAM  Cass County

He is listed 66 IA, Ulrica Thulin his second wife is 50 SWED, and there is an aunt, Ellen Parson 20 SWED with them. He is James Rufus Putnam Junior, a son of James Rufus Putnam and his first wife Cynthia Ann Bradley. He was born in Dubuque County March 10, 1859 and was with the folks there in 1860 and in Warren County in 1870 and 1880. His first wife Eliza Jane Sexton died September 15, 1904. He married Ulrica Thulin from Sweden here in 1905. They were here in 1910 and on. Ulrica will hang in until she dies December 30, 1935, James till December 27, 1942.

 

CLAUDE E. PUTNAM  Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo County

He is 35 IL WI IL, Lehme L. Strode 28 IL and they have Nellie F. (Frances) 5 IA. In 1900, he was in Knox County, Illinois with his mother Nellie Henderson. His dad is Orlean Putnam from Cass County, Michigan. That family was in Nebraska in the 1890s and then Nellie retreated back home to Illinois. They are here in 1925 and 1930 too.

 

STACY N. PUTMAN  Dickens, Clay County

He is now 45 WI, Florence S. Davis 43 IA, Amber E. 17 IA, Millicent 10 IA and Kenneth (listed Zenith) is 7 IA. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Mary Jane Marr and was in Waushara County, Wisconsin with his folks in 1880 and then was here in 1900. Dutch family.

 

COLEMAN PUTNAM  Lodomillo, Clayton County

He is 52 MI, Sarah Cordelia Probst 51 IA, Claire A. listed a son 16 IA, Gilbert 12 IA. Also there is his daughter Mable 29 IA and her husband Alva Shepard 26 IA. Coleman is a son of Charles B. and Esther Putnam, and was born in Eaton County, MI and was there in 1870. The family was then in Linn County, Iowa from 1880 on. He was in Delaware County in 1900, and here in 1910. They are here still in 1930. His dad and his second wife Laura are currently still in Linn County.

 

RAYMOND PUTNAM  Lincoln, Clinton County

He is 28 Belgium, Martha Peterson 29 Germany, Diverne 7 IA and Ray (jr.) 2 IA. Obviously he just hit the shores recently, she’s been around a while though. They are here in 1930 with 6 new kids, but two here now are then listed as step kids with the last name Seymour, which was the name of Martha’s first husband.

 

RUTH PUTNAM  Perry, Dallas County

She is 20 IA and is listed as a daughter of someone whose name was not recorded. She is a daughter of Fred and Nellie Putnam and was with them in 1900 in Linn County. Fred is not around, so I guess Nellie remarried and that is with whom Ruth is living.

 

ULYSSIS G. (GRANT) PUTMAN  Perry, Dallas County

He is 53 IA, his second wife Nackey Earley is 48 OH and son Howard 15 IA. He is a son of Benjamin Putman and was born in Boone County, Iowa. He was here in Dallas County in 1900 and 1910.

 

MILTON A. (AUGUSTUS) PUTNAM  Woodward, Dallas County

He is 62 IA and living alone. He is a son of Benjamin Augustus and was shown right here in 1860 with the family at age 2. Then the family moved to Boone County and he was there in 1870 and 1880. The whole family was in Tacoma, Washington in 1900. He married Ida Theresa Sayles in Poweshiek County on March 24, 1883. They were divorced a while back. He was single here in 1910.

 

WILLARD PUTMAN  Drakesville, Davis County

One of the Southern Putmans. He is a son of Jasper Newton Putman. He was at home in 1900 here, and married here in 1910. He is now 48 IA, Nellie M. Clark 40 IA and they have Dorothy J. 14 IA. He and Nellie are here in 1930. Dorothy will marry Roy Clarkson January 7, 1928 and be off with him then.

 

JANE PUTMAN  Davis County

She is Eliza Jane Grant the widow of Jasper Newton. She is 72 OH and Olive 47 IA, her daughter, is still with her. She and Olive will be in Los Angeles by 1930.

 

THOMAS PUTMAN  Davis County

He is 49 IA (born right here), Stella Combs 43 IA and Eugene 11 IA. Stella's mother Caroline Combs 70 IN and her brother Cecil Combs 26 IA are living with them. One of our 'southern' folks. He is a son of Stiles Putman, grandson of Thomas and great grandson of Elijah Putman. He and Stella and his dad were here in 1910. The Combs family has also traveled a long way with our Putmans. Bennett and Dolly Combs had a couple of daughters who married Putmans. Stacey married my Reding and Isabel married Hazeal Putman. Caroline would have been married to one of Bennett's five sons.

 

W. L. (WILLIAM LUTHER) PUTNAM  Pleasanton, Decatur County

He is 54 OH, Blanche 46 MO, Helen 18 MO, Mildred 13 MO and William 11 MO. He is a son of Luther Putnam and was in Mercer County, Missouri in 1900 and 1910. He was born in Huron County, Ohio. His father Luther is from New York State.

 

EDWARD PUTNAM  Manchester, Delaware County

He is 45 IA, Hetty Spare 38 IA, Mary C. 17 IA, Harold 13 IA and Marjory 6 IA. He is a son of Henry H. Putnam and Elvira Stanclift, and was here at home with them in 1900, and married here in 1910. He is also currently listed by himself in Tulsa, Oklahoma on business. They are here in 1930.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Burlington, Des Moines County

He is 40 IL and rooming with Mary White.

 

CHARLES A. PUTMAN  Dubuque, Dubuque County

He is 38 IA, Nellie J. Bloden 37 IA, Helen L. 9 IA, Rita C. 7 IA, Donald C. 6 IA, Robert E. 5 IA and Lorraine A. 1 6/12 IA. He is a son of George Thomas Putman and Mary Reuter Schmidt who were here in 1910. Charles and Nellie were here in 1910 as well. In 1930 the whole gang is up in Denver, Colorado.

 

DAVID A. (ARCHIBALD) PUTNAM  Dubuque, Dubuque County

He is 64 IL, Ellen E. White 62 WI, Archie D. (David 2nd) 38 IA and his daughter Ruth M. Putnam 8 IA. Also there is Ellen's sister Mary Jane White 69 ENG. His full name is David Archibald Putnam and he has been here in Dubuque since the 1880 census at least. In 1880 and 1900 his wife was listed as Mary born in Scotland. This Ellen is a second wife. They were all here in 1910 and had been married for 2 years then. He is a son of George Putnam and Catherine Scleithe from Ohio, and was born in Tazewell County Illinois and then was with his folks in Grant County Wisconsin in 1860, whole family missing in 1870 and then he was here just married in 1880. They are here in 1925 and passed away by 1930. The son, Archie, was married here in Dubuque in 1910 and will shortly have a new wife Lillian and be in Minneapolis by 1930.

 

GEORGE V. PUTNAM  Dubuque, Dubuque County

He is 38 IL, Fern Campbell 27 IL and Mary Galle is 7/12 IA and listed as an adopted daughter. He is George Vincent Putnam junior, son of George Putnam and Susan Burke from Springfield, Illinois. They are here in 1930. He’ll die here in 1937.

 

MARION PUTNAM  Dubuque, Dubuque County

He is 64 WI and has a couple of boarders. He is probably the Mart or Martin who was here in 1900. He was married here in 1910.

 

WALTER PUTMAN  Dubuque, Dubuque County

He is 39 MA and boarding with a Joseph Washington.

 

EVERETT PUTMAN  Oelwein, Fayette County

He is 27 IA, Refa 27 OK, Robert D. 4 4/12 IA. He is a son of Charles Putman and Elsie Wells, and was born here. Also with him is his grandfather Peter Putman listed as 87 NY, but it is 82 NY. In 1900, Peter was with his wife Alice and staying with his daughter Cora here in the county. They are in Cedar Rapids in 1925 and gone someplace by 1930.

 

PETER PUTMAN  Oelwein, Fayette County

He is a son of Jacob and Hannah Putman from Montgomery County NY (Dutch family). He has been in Buchanan County from the 1860s until the 1890s. In 1900 he and Alice Teague his wife were with their daughter Cora here in Fayette County and now he is widowed and living with his grandson Everett (son of Peter's son Charles). Peter is now 87 NY and doing just fine I suppose, playing with the kids.

 

ARTHUR PUTMAN  Fayette County

He is 30 IA, Edna Miesgeier 31 IA, Dale I. a son 4 8/12 IA, Hilda I. 3 6/12 IA, Lloyd A. 1 6/12 IA and Lester W. 7/12 IA. Also there is Alma Miesgeier 67 GER (Edna's mom), Clara Meisgeier 34 IA (Edna's sister) and Laura Andrea 29 IA (Edna's sister). Arthur is a son of Elliot and Caroline Putnam and was with them in Clayton County in 1900. They are here in 1930.

 

ELLIOT PUTNAM  Fayette County

He is 68 NY, Caroline Nus 57 IA, Ernest 31 IA, Bertha 27 IA. Also there is a nephew, Chester Manson 17 IA. Chester was listed as an adopted son in 1910. This family was in Clayton County Iowa in 1900, and here in 1910. He is Alfred Elliot, son of Lucien B. and Esther Putnam from Warsaw, NY and then here in Fayette County in the 1860s and on.

 

FRANK S. PUTMAN  Charles City, Floyd County

He is 62 NY and rooming with Albert Jones. He was in Winneshiek County in 1880 and married there in 1910. He is a son of John S. and Julia Putnam from Crown Point, Essex County, New York.

 

CHARLES E. PUTMAN  Franklin County

Charles Ervin is a son of Charles B. Putman and Anna Briggs and was born in this county. The family was all there in 1900. He is now 46 IA, Zella M. 45 IA, May 18 IA, Anna 16 IA, Bernice 12 IA. Also there is their daughter Dema (listed Bema in 1900) 19 IA and her husband Edward Eisentrager 21 IA. They are here in 1930.

 

HOWARD PUTMAN JR.  Hamburg, Fremont County

He is a son of the next listed Howard Putman. He is 33 IA and Nora Russell his wife 32 MO. She is a daughter of James Russell and Minnie McGuire. They are here in 1930 too.

 

HOWARD PUTMAN  Hamburg, Fremont County

He is 69 IA, Emma Headley his wife 64 IA, Mertie 44 IA, Essie 30 IA and Zelma 22 IA. He is a son of Abraham Putman. He was born in Davis County, a grandson of Elijah Putman out of Fulton County, Illinois. One of the 'southern' branch folks. Been here forever. They are here in 1925, and Howard will be widowed here in 1930.

 

OTTO PUTMAN  Fremont County

He is 39 IA, Mary 36 GER. He is another son of Howard and Emma Putman from here.

 

LOUISE E. PUTNAM  Grundy County

She is 21 IA and a niece of Gorham and Martha Arnold. She is with them here in 1925 and in Hardin County in 1930. Martha is her mother’s sister. Louise is a daughter of Warren Ami Putnam and Hettie Beary. Warren Ami is a son of George Gideon Putnam. New England family that came out here in the 1870s. Louise was born here and was with her folks in Grundy County in 1900. The folks moved to Anne Arundel County, Maryland in 1909. Louise decided to stay here.

 

FRANCES PUTNAM  Hamilton County

She is 31 IA and a niece of John H. King. She is probably the daughter of George and Helen and was with her mother in Madison County in 1900

 

EARL C. PUTNAM  Eldora, Hardin County

He was born here, a son of Allen and Phoebe Putnam. He is 38 IA. Etta Whiting his wife is 28 IA, Gerald W. 4 IA, Helen 2 IA and Alice 3/12 IA. Also there is his brother Howard J. 40 IA. His father has died and mom is nearby living with her daughter Helen and that family. They are here in 1925 and 1930.

 

PHEBE PUTNAM  Eldora, Hardin County

She is Phebe Southard 64 IA and living with her daughter Helen Dobson. She is Allen Putnam's widow and was here with him and the kids in 1900 and 1910. She will be in Long Beach California in 1930.

 

BENNETT W. PUTNAM  Hardin County

He is 32 IA, Genevieve Spears, his wife, 30 IA, Muriel 5 IA, Janet 4 IA, Barrett 10/12 IA. Bennett is a son of Allen and Phoebe Putnam. He was born here and was with his folks in 1900. He will be divorced and living with his brother Earl here in 1930. Genevieve and the kids are all in Los Angeles in 1930.

 

HOWARD J. PUTNAM  Hardin County

He is 40 IA and living with his brother Earl. They are sons of Allen and Phoebe and was born right here

 

CHARLES F. PUTNAM  Magnolia, Harrison County

He is 30 IA, Ada S. 28 IA and Charles F. 8 IA. This would be Charles Putman junior from Washington County and his wife Ada Bower. OBITS has Ada’s birth as August 31, 1891 and death in April 1983. German family out of Virginia a long time ago.

 

NANCY M. PUTNAM  Woodbine, Harrison County

She is Nancy Margaret Ballentine, widow of Charles Francis Putnam. They were in Monona County in 1900. Nancy is now 55 IA, Hazel M. 25 IA. Also there is a grand daughter Edith M. Davis 13 IA. She is here by herself in 1930.

 

CHARLES H. PUTNAM  Cresco, Howard County

He is 61 IA, and Lena 60 NOR and there are four Malek kids ages 4-10 with them. Charles was here in 1900 married to another gal, Clarinda from Wisconsin. Lena is a second wife, they were here just married in 1910. The Malek kids are simply listed as boarders. In the Iowa 1925, it states their father was Frank Malek and their mother Genevieve Putnam. Charles first showed up here in the 1860 census living with his widowed mother who was also from Norway. No clue as to his father even back then. Lena is widowed here in 1930.

 

CHESTER L. (LLOYD) PUTNAM  Holstein, Ida County

He is 33 IA, Susie Emorine 28 IA and James W. (William) 5 IA. He is a son of William Franklin Putnam and Mary Ann Rizor. He was born September 19, 1886 in Marion County, and was at home with his folks there in 1900 and in Union County in 1910. He is a doctor and they are here in 1925 and 1930.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Bellevue, Jackson County

He is 34 IA, Mary Ries 30 IA, Clare U. 12 IA, Eugene S. (Sylvester) 10 IA, Elvira C. 9 IA, Vincent J. 7 IA, Dolores E. 5 IA, Annetta 3 6/12 IA, Florence M. 1 6/12 IA. He is a son of Jacob and Elizabeth and was here with them in 1900. He was born in Mason City, Iowa. They are here in 1925 and 1930.

 

JACOB PUTMAN  Bellevue, Jackson County

He is a son of Jacob Putman and Eliza Wicks from Montgomery County, New York. He was born in Carroll County, Illinois and was here with his folks in 1870 and 1880. His dad and mom returned to Carroll County, Illinois in the 1890s, but Jacob (this one) remained on the old farm here in Bellevue. Jacob is now 57 IL (listed as IA, but that was wrong). His wife Elizabeth Vandanacker is 56 IA and Clarence 23 IA. His sons Ralph and George are here in Bellevue as well. Dutch family from New York State. They are here in 1930.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Bellevue, Jackson County

He is 33 IA, Anna Marie Lintgen 27 IA, Margaret M. 9 IA, Floyd D. 8 IA, Dorothy E. 6 IA, Myrtle E. 3 9/12 IA, Grace M. 1 IA. He is a son of Jacob and Elizabeth and was born right here. He married Anna here in 1910, and will be here till he dies in 1976. Dutch folks originally from Montgomery County, New York.

 

MARIE A. PUTNAM  Bellevue, Jackson County

She is 58 LXB. She has a grandson Charles Putnam 12 IA and her mother Madeline Reuter 86 also born in Luxenburg with her. Marie Reuter Schmidt is the widow of George Thomas Putman. They were in Dubuque in 1910. Charles is a son of their son Charles A. Putman and Belle or Nellie Blodin who are still back in Dubuque now.

 

RALPH PUTNAM  Bellevue, Jackson County

He is 25 IA (born here in town), Jessie McCard 23 IA, Willard J. 4 3/12 IA and Edward Paul less than a month old IA. Jessie will die here November 13, 1922. He is a son of Jacob Putman jr. and Elizabeth Vandanacker. (Dutch family). He is widowed here in 1930. Next he will be in South Dakota operating a motel and be married to Minnie Bailey. Things got tough I guess as he committed suicide in Pierre South Dakota June 12, 1944.

 

MILES PUTNAM  Farmers Creek, Jackson County

He is a son of James Putnam and was at home in Winnebago County in 1900. He is now 28 IA. Matilda Zirkleman his wife is 29 IA, Mildred 7 IA and Mona 3/12 IA. He was single here in 1910 and they are here in 1925 and  1930.

 

ERNEST A. (ALBERT) PUTNAM  Iowa City, Johnson County

He is 50 MI, Stella Smith 40 IA, Wayne S. 18 IA, Russell H. 14 IA and Vernon 7 IA. He was single in 1900 in Lucas, Johnson County, Iowa, but must have married by 1901. He was here in Iowa City in 1910 with Carrie Estella Smith his wife. He is a son of Charles B. and Esther Putnam. In 1870 he was with them in Eaton County, Michigan, but was not listed with them for some reason in 1880 when the family was in Linn County, Iowa. He was born April 28, 1868 and will die here January 30, 1951. New England family.

 

WAYNE S. PUTNAM  Iowa City, Johnson County

He is 21 IA, Helen is 21 IA. He must have just got married as he is also listed here with his father Ernest Putnam, but in that listing he is only 18. Must have lied to get married. He is here in 1930 at age 30.

 

HOWARD PUTNAM  Monticello, Jones County

He is 75 IA, Sarah A. Livingston his second wife is 70 IA. With them is a niece Esther J. Swift 17 IL. He's been here almost forever. He is a son of James Rufus Putnam and Cynthia Ann Bradley, and was born December 14, 1844. He married Margaret Jane Kline February 18, 1863. She died here September 21, 1886, and Howard married Sarah Ann Livingston on January 12, 1888. Howard will die here July 8, 1924 and Sarah on October 13, 1926.

 

JOHN W. (WILLIAM) PUTNAM  Monticello, Jones County

He is listed 53 IA, Ellen J. Kelley 59 IA. He is a son of Howard Putnam and his first wife Margaret Kline, and was born here. He is shown with the family in 1870, and none of the family was shown in 1880 (clerical mishap as they were here). He was in the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma in 1900 with his first wife Katie Harris. They were married there in 1893. He was with his dad and stepmother Sarah Livingston here in 1910. He is widowed here in 1930.

 

HARRY E. PUTNAM  English River Township, Keokuk County

He is 25 IA NY IL. His wife Melvina Fay Wymore is 24 IA IN NY. They have Madison A. 2 7/12 IA. He is a son of Merton Putnam and Alice Blakley. He was at home in Palo Alto County in 1900 and in Mahaska County in 1910. They are in Iowa County in 1925 and Poweshiek County in 1930.

 

MERT A. (MERTON ADELBERT) PUTNAM  Webster, Keokuk County

Merton is 62 IA, Alice Annette Blakley 58 IL, Floyd J. 22 IA and Ethel 34 IA. He is a son of Harvey Cornelius Putnam and Sarah Stewart, and was born in Poweshiek County and was in Palo Alto County in 1900, and in Mahaska County in 1910. They are here in 1930, and Floyd is married then. Floyd owns a garage. Ethel is a schoolteacher and is in Black Hawk County in 1925.

 

E. (ELMER) F. PUTNAM  What Cheer, Keokuk County

He is 36 IA, and his wife Jessie Shackelford is 25 MO, Roland 5 MO, Harold 4 IA, Dorothy 3 IA and Junior 7/12 IA. He is a son of Hartley Putnam and Martha Kannals. He was in Mahaska County with the folks in 1900 and will be in Mahaska County in 1925 and 1930.

 

CHARLES PUTMAN  Cedar Rapids, Linn County

He is 60 IL, Winifred his second wife is 37 IA. One of the Southern Family, a son of Hazeal Putman from Fulton County, Illinois. He was here in 1900 as well. They are here in 1925, and he will be widowed and with his married daughter Essie in Santa Monica California in 1930.

He is 43 IL, Anna Smith his wife 39 IA. They are rooming with an A. E. Koontz. He is a son of William H. Putman and Sarah Frances Miller, and was shown with his folks in 1880 in Riley County, Kansas. I haven’t seen him since, but they are here in 1925 and 1930. Southern Putman family.

He is 78 NY (actually MI), and he has been here since the 1870s. His third wife Laura Smith is 58 IA and they have a daughter Caroline 18 IA. He will be widowed by 1930 and be living with Caroline in Buchanan County. Caroline will be married to Henry Reece than. Charles is a son of Orlin L. Putnam and Caroline Brown. He was born in Clarendon, Calhoun County, Michigan. He was at home there in 1860 in Eckford, Calhoun County and here since the 1870s. He is widowed here in 1925.

 

CHARLES W. PUTMAN  Linn County

He is 46 IA and widowed now. His brother John A. 29 IA and widowed mother Mary Alice Teague 70 ENG and a niece Lucille M. Chandler 5 IA are with him. In 1900 he was married in Fayette County and was in Buchanan County in 1880. His mother was in Fayette County in 1900, and his father was Peter from New York State.

 

FRED PUTMAN  Mahaska County

He is 36 IA, Millie Ford 36 IA, Dorothy 10 KS, Sophie 8 KS and Mildred 7/12 IA. In 1910 he and Millie were in Neosho County, Kansas. There were no children at that time, just married I would guess. The two older girls are listed as nieces in 1925 and again as daughters in 1930. In 1925 they say their folks were John Butterfield and Dixie Ford who would be Millie’s sister. I guess they simply adopted them. He is a son of Merton Adelbert Putnam and Alice Blakley and was born in Poweshiek County, Iowa. His folks were here in Mahaska County in 1910. They are in Poweshiek County in 1930.

W. F. (WILLIAM FRANKLIN) PUTNAM  Knoxville, Marion County

He is 73 IA, Mary Ann Rizor, his wife, 71 OH. He is a son of James Rufus Putnam, and was born in Dubuque County September 1, 1846. He was here in Marion County in 1880 and 1900. Mary will die here August 24, 1926. He is widowed here in 1930, and will die here July 15, 1934.

 

EDGAR PUTNAM  Marshalltown, Marshall County

He is 58 IA and born right here, Rose Shank 55 IL and Edith Mary 14 IA. He is a son of Nahum D. Putman and Mary Spake. His brother Russell is nearby.

 

EMMA PUTNAM  Marshalltown, Marshall County

She is Emma Lukecart, the widow of George (Nahum's son), and is now 56 IA. Still home is George E. (Edward) 23 IA. The other kids are still in town as well. She is here in 1930.

 

RUSSELL PUTNAM  Marshalltown, Marshall County

He is 27 IA, Louise McGowan his wife is 28 IA, Virginia 4 9/12 IA and Gretchen 3 6/12 IA. They are living with Louise's widowed mom, Estelle McGowan. Russell is a son of Edgar and Rose Putnam and was with the family here in Marshalltown in 1900. In 1925 Louise and the kids are here, but no Russell. Says she is married, but looks divorced or some such. He is in Cerro Gordo County by 1930 and has a new wife and 2 new kids.

He is 33 IA, Grace 28 IA, Lloyd 6 IA, Helen 4 3/12 IA and Marion a son 1 10/12 IA. He is a son of George and Emma Putnam from right here and was at home with them in 1900.

 

WILLIAM S. PUTNAM  Marshall County

He is 73 NH and a 'member' of the Iowa Soldier's Home. He is the same William Skinner who was in Linn County in 1900, and finally has his birthplace correct. He is a son of Gideon Putnam and Sarah Rice originally from Nashua, New Hampshire. He was here in the Soldier’s Home in 1910 as well. Will be here till he dies.

 

CLARA A. PUTNAM  Glenwood, Mills County

She is 24 IA and an 'inmate' at the Institution for Feeble Minded Children. She is probably the one who was in the Christian Home in Pottawattamie County in 1900, and here in 1910.

 

ORRIN PUTMAN  Glenwood, Mills County

He is 19 IA and boarding with Clarence Miller. He just missed the 1900, so I have no idea who he belongs with.

 

JOSEPH PUTTMAN  Liberty, Mitchell County

He is now 54 IA and his wife Agnes is 49 GER. They now have Fredrica 21 IA, Hubert 18 IA, Frances 16 IA, Hilda 14 IA, Emma 12 IA, Clara 10 IA, Lucretia 6 IA, and Josephine 4 IA. He is the son of Barnard Putman and were in Carroll County Iowa in 1900 and 1910.

 

JAMES E. (EUGENE) PUTNAM  Monona County

He is 46 NE, Mary E. Christianson, his wife, 51 IA. They have a Mary L. Stanley 5/12 IA listed as a ward. Also there is a Chancy Heath 79 NY listed HM (hired man). He is a son of Eri Carlton Putnam and Eliza Goodrich. He was here with his mom in 1880, and also here in 1900 and listed as Eugene. He was married here in 1910 and they are here in 1930.

 

HOMER R. PUTMAN  Muscatine, Muscatine County

He is 56 WI. Katherine Frank is 50 GER and Albert 25 IA. He is a son of William C. and Sarah Putman and was in Floyd County in 1870, and in Johnson County in 1900. His dad was from New York. They are here still in 1930.

 

EDSON A. (ADELBERT) PUTNAM  Hartley, O'Brien County

He is 42 IA, Grace May Webster, his wife, 37 IL, Darwin C. 15 A, Pauline Gay 13 IA and Robert B. 7 IA. He was born in Hardin County and was here with his folks Dennison and Josephine in 1900, and married here in 1910. Edson will die a little later this year and Grace is widowed here in 1930.

 

IDA M. PUTMAN  Hartley, O'Brien County

Ida Mae Lowrey is 37 IA, Celia B. (Bernice) 13 IA and Louis J. 10 IA. Also there is a boarder Bernard Thomas 23 IA. She was married Dennison's son Frank Putnam here in 1910, and they have been divorced. She is here in 1925 and married to Harry Burke. Then they split and she and Bernice are here in 1930 with the last name Putman again.

 

JOSEPHINE PUTNAM  Hartley, O'Brien County

Josephine Boyles is 72 PA. She is the widow of Dennison from here, and is living with her daughter Adda and her husband Clarence McDonald. She was here with them in 1910. The rest of the family, Edwin and Louis are here in town as well with their families. Then there is an Ida Putman with kids who would be the other son, Frank's, widow. He died here in 1918. Dennison died here in 1918, Josie will pass along herself next year in 1921.

 

LEWIS W. PUTNAM  Hartley, O'Brien County

He is 48 IA, Cora A. Summey his wife 47 IL and Hobart S. 22 IA. He is a son of Dennison and Josephine, born Hardin County and here in O'Brien in 1900. His mom and brothers live here in town as well. They are here in 1930, and Hobart is married by then.

 

HORACE PUTMAN  Sheldon, O'Brien County

He is 67 VT, Maria (Mary Burke) 69 NY, George 35 IA, Horace junior 30 IA, Julia 29 IA and Evelyn 23 IA. He was in Sioux County in the 1880 and 1900 census, and here in 1910. He is a son of Henry and Rose Putnam from Vermont. He will last here until early 1930, and Mary will die in 1932.

The Amos was hard to read, may be something else. He is 19 IA and boarding with Leonard Peters.

 

JAY D. (DE FORESTE) PUTMAN  Shenandoah, Page County

He is 47 IA, Lillie Belle Baker, his wife, is 43 IL, Helen 23 IA, Mabel 20 SD, Orin 17 IA, Arthur 13 IA, Ralph 10 IA. He is a son of George Putman and was at home in Linn County, Iowa in 1880. In 1900 he was listed as a physician in Sioux Valley, Union County, South Dakota. They were here in Shenandoah in 1910. They are divorced by 1925 and Lillie is here with the kids. By 1930, Jay is by himself in Phelps County, Nebraska. Ralph and Orin are married here in 1930.

 

TILFORD LYNN PUTMAN  Shenandoah, Page County

He is listed as Tom L. 60 MO and a lodger at a hotel. He is Tilford Putman a physician. He is a son of Greene Marion Putman and Mary Elizabeth Kelsey from Fulton County, Illinois, Davis County Iowa, and then Mercer County, Missouri where Tilford was born February 8, 1859. He married Jessie  McKean in Columbus, Nebraska on March 25, 1886. They have been in Page County, Iowa since the 1890s. Jessie died in 1917, and Tilford will die here August 26, 1926. Southern Putman Family.

 

ELMER H. PUTNAM  West Bend, Palo Alto County

He is listed 22 IL and a stepson of Nicholas and Martha (46 IA) Peterson. He is a son of Frank Putnam and Martha Saliscorn of Carroll County, Illinois as shown there in 1900. Then the family was in Brown County, South Dakota in 1910 and it looks as the parents split or Frank died. They are still here in 1930.

 

CHRIST PUTTMAN  Plymouth County

He is 51 Waldesh (wherever that is, probably Germany). A Ray family is living with him as handy man and housekeeper. Christopher came to America in 1882 and was naturalized in 1888. He was here in 1900 with his brother William who since moved to Davenport Iowa. He is here in 1930.

 

FRANCIS A. (ASHBURY) PUTMAN  Varina, Pocahontas County

A son of Benjamin Augustus and in Boone County through 1900. He is now 48 IA, Clara Harrington 42 MO, Francis junior 19 IA, Stacy a son 18 IA, Gladys 14 IA, Mary 12 IA, Alta 6 IA and Lola 2 IA. They are here in 1930 too.

 

HERBERT D. PUTNAM  Des Moines, Polk County

He is 28 MO and lodging with William Smith. He was listed as Hubert in St. Louis Missouri in 1900 with his father L. G. Putnam. He will be married in Minneapolis in 1930.

 

JAMES A. (ALBERT) PUTMAN  Des Moines, Polk County

He is 40 IA, Anna Gertrude Pratt his wife 31 NY and there is a Marjorie G. 13 SD listed as granddaughter, which seems impossible. He is a son of Albert Putnam and Nancy Pyle from Warren County. He and Gertrude will get a divorce and she will be here in 1930, James got depressed I guess as he committed suicide September 11, 1929.

 

WILLIAM A. PUTMAN  Des Moines, Polk County

He is 36 MD, Mary 29 IA. He is listed twice, as shown here and also as a soldier at Camp Dodge U. S. Army here. He was in the Army in 1910 in North Sheridan, Wyoming. He is a son of John H. and Elizabeth Putman from Washington County, Maryland. German family.

 

EARNEST J. (JUDSON) PUTNAM  Polk County

He is 60 IA, Rosalie Dugan 47 IA, Clement E. 23 IA, Dorothy A. 12 IA and Goldie D. 9 IA. Also there is Rosalie's mother, Hannah Dugan ?? OH. He is a son of Benjamin Augustus Putnam. He was born in Boone County and was there through the 1910 census. They are here in 1930 living with their daughter Dorothy who will marry Leonard Fisher here in 1928.

 

MILES J. PUTNAM  Clover Hills, Polk County

He is 46 MI, Rosa D. Rorer 45 VA, Mabel 14 IA. Also there is his son Gordon R. 21 VA, his wife Adeline L. Villian 20 IL and son John R. 6/12 IA. They were not here or in Virginia in the 1900 census. I do not find him in the Michigan 1880 either. They were here in 1910 though. Miles will die here in 1929. In that GREAT 1925 State census, Miles states his folks were J. W. Putnam and Mary Norton, both born in Michigan. Still with all that I can’t find them or figure them out.

 

CLYDE C. PUTMAN  Des Moines, Polk County

He is 40 NE, Clara F. 38 IA, Max Clyde 11 IA, Virginia Mary 9 IL and Clyde C. junior 8 IA. He is a son of Samuel D. and Sarah Putman. They were in Furnas County, Nebraska in 1880 and back here in Johnson County Iowa in 1900. OBITS gives Max’s birth as May 20, 1908 and death August 12, 1996 all in Des Moines.

This was a very bad entry to read. He is about 20 IL, his wife Marie Graves 18 IA. They are here in 1925 and 1930 with kids. He is a son of William D. Putnam and Gertrude Duddles from Lake County Illinois. He was shown newly born there in 1900.

He is 45 IA, Abbie J. 41 IA, Margaret E. 7 IA and Kathryn M. 5/12 IA. He is a son of Augustus (David Augustus Putnam) and was here in 1880 and 1900, and married here in 1910.

 

BELLE PUTNAM  Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County

She is 71 VT, Kathryn a niece is 43 IA. Belle was here in 1900 as a sister of Lucius Putnam, a son of George Putnam and Elizabeth Perkins from Vermont. Kathryn is a daughter of David Augustus Putnam. Her mom died right after she was born and she was with her uncle Lucius here in 1900.

He is 62 NY, Daisy Frederick 49 IN, John S. 23 IN, and George T. 15 IN. Also there is their daughter Althea 20 IN and her husband Howard W. Martin 23 IN. They were in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana in 1900. He is the son of George Carlton and Elizabeth Putnam. In 1860 he was at home in Rochester, New York. The son John will be married and in Denver, Colorado by 1930.

He is 28 NE, Helen Heaton his wife 23 MO, George 2 IA and Charlotte 4/12 IA. In 1900 he was with his widowed mother Belle in Douglas County, Nebraska. They are here in 1925 and 1930.

 

HARRY PUTNAM  Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County

He is 36 NE and the brother in law of Paul Prasse. He is a son of Willis Emery Putman and Annie Day Mauger his second wife. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska and was at home there in 1900. The family moved here in the early 1900s and his father died here in Council Bluffs August 22, 1909. His brother Willis Emery Putman junior is listed shortly. Paul Prasse married his sister Sarah. Harry will be married here in 1925 and 1930. Dutch family from New York State.

He is a son of George McIntyre Putnam and was born in Ogle County, Illinois. His dad, George, is also in this county living with his son William. Fred is widowed here by 1930.

He is listed 62 IL, Mary J. 61 IA. He is a son of Victor and Sarah Ann Putman from New York. Victor was a son of Victor Putman and Deborah Burns from Oneida County New York.  He was born in Lee County Illinois in 1858 and was there in 1860 through 1880. In 1900 they were in Stanton County Nebraska. He and Mary were here in Council Bluffs in 1910. John is widowed here in 1930. Dutch family originally from Montgomery County New York.

He is 39 IA and has an uncle John Kasbaunn 55 GER with him. Louis is a son of Chris and Anna, and was with him here in 1900. Louis was just married here in 1910, guess it didn’t work out. The family is from Germany

He is 47 IL (born in Ogle County, Illinois) and has been here since the 1870s. His father George McIntire Putnam 83 NH (born in Charleston, New Hampshire) is there as well, as his sister Myrtle 44 IA (born right here). Bill and Myrtle are still here in 1930.

He is 47 IA, Myrtle Cranston 44 IA, Cecil Donovan 18 IA and Opal Ida 15 IA. He is a son of Harvey Cornelius and was born right here. He and the family were here in 1900 of course. They are here in 1925. He is widowed and Opal married by 1930. The son Donovan is married in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1930.

He is 30 NY, Nellie 29 GA. They will get a divorce and he will be here by himself in 1925 and 1930. He is a son of Alfred D. Putman and Cora Woodrick. He was at home with his folks in Columbia County New York in 1900 and 1910. According to the SSDI he was born in New York April 10, 1891 and will die here in Davenport in May 1968. Dutch family from Fulton County New York.

He is 51 IA, Hilma Sandberg 44 ENG and they have a housekeeper Katherine Clodfelter 38 IL with them. He is a son of Charles Edward Putnam and Mary Duncan and was here with them in 1880 and 1900. He was just married here in 1910. They are here in 1925 with a son.

She is 52 IA and has an Annie Hamann 45 IA with her. She is an unwed daughter of Charles and Mary and has been here all her life, and will die here in 1928.

She is Harriet Isabelle Lyon, wife of Charles Morgan Putman. They were in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois in 1900 and here in 1910. He is presently in Chicago. Maybe on business or maybe they split. She is now 52 MI, Eunice 20 IL and they have a lodger. Charles was a son of Charles E. Putnam and Mary Louisa Duncan from here.

He is now 88 NY. He is Abraham's son who has been here almost forever (since the 1850s) and he never married

He is 61 IN, Jennie 65 OH. He is a son of Edwin G. Putnam and Sarah Oswalt. His father was born in Cavendish, Vermont and then went to Wells County, Indiana with his father Newton Putnam. The family was in Pleasant Township, Appanoose County, Iowa by 1860. Then in Kansas and then in Garfield County, Oklahoma in 1900 and in Harris County, Texas in 1910, and they will be in Bourbon County, Kansas by 1930.

He is 37 KS, Effie M. 36 IA. He is the eldest son of the above Joseph Newton Putnam. They were in Garfield County, Oklahoma in 1910.

He is 36 IA, Vera Bradley his wife is 34 IA. He is a son of Sydney and Josephine and was here in 1900 and they will be in 1930.

He is 50 IL, Alta May Probst, his wife, 47 IL, Virgil G. (Glen) 20 IA, Fern L. (Lorainne) 17 IA. He is indexed twice, under Jason P. and John P., but it's Jason. He is a son of Henry Harrison Putnam and Cornelia Chamberlain, and was here in 1900 as well. They are in Page County by 1930, and Virgil is married and here in Taylor County in 1930.

 

SIDNEY C. (CHASE) PUTMAN  Bedford, Taylor County

He has been here from about 1875, coming over from Illinois. He is now 77 VT and his wife Josephine Smith has died since 1900. He is a son of Prentiss Putnam and Jemima Chase. He was born November 6, 1842 in Whittingham, Vermont. With him are his son, Edwin and his family. Edwin Sidney is 44 IA, Mabel A. Snyder 38 IA, and Harry E. is 14 IA. Sidney will die here shortly on December 17, 1920. Edwin will be here in 1930 as will Harry who is married by then.

 

L. I. (LEE IRVING) PUTNAM  Taylor County

Newcomers. He is 29 VT, Treva 26 IA, Prentiss a son 3 MA, Doris 3/12 VT. Also there is his mother Hattie E. Putnam 59 VT. He is a son of Irving B. Putnam and Hattie Batchelder. He was at home in Wardsboro, Windham County, Vermont in 1900. He is a cousin of the other folks here in Taylor County. Everyone is back in Vermont in 1930. But OBITS has Lee’s birth as January 25, 1890 and death here in Bedford Iowa in February 1973, and Prentiss’ November 23, 1916 and death here in Bedford March 10, 1998, so they obviously came back.

He is 41 IA, Victoria 41 IA, Ardythe 16 IA. There are two boarders. He is a son of William Franklin Putnam. He was home in Marion County in 1880 and 1900. He was married here in Center Township in 1910. William was a son of James Rufus Putnam from Dubuque County. They are here in 1930.

He is a son of Albert Putnam and Nancy Pyle, and was at home in 1900 and 1910 here in Warren County. He is 29 IA, Mable C. Scott his wife is 27 IA, Charles 5 IA and Edwin 1 9/12 IA. They are here in 1925 and 1930 and I am sure forever.

James Rufus' son is 66 IA and Sarah Ellen Pyle his wife is 67 IN. Been here forever, and will be in 1930.

He is 37 IA, Rachel Brewer 30 KS, Junior (Thomas B. 2nd) 9 IA and Max 6 IA. He is a son of Albert and Nancy Putman and was at home here in Warren County in 1900. They were here married in 1910. Something will happen as Rachel will marry a Lewis Duffin from here and by 1930 they and these kids are all up in Battle Creek Michigan.

He is 53 MI, Alice Stannard McNeill, his wife, 56 MI, Harold M. 30 MI, Clyde (Nathan Clyde) 26 MI, John A. (Alfred) 18 MI and Paul A. (Albert) 16 MI. Also there is Eva Allison 33 MI listed as a niece. They were in Milan, Washtenaw County, Michigan in the 1900 census and here in Keokuk County in 1910. He is a son of Nathan and Hannah Putnam. His mom is listed next. Nathan was from New York, his father John from Massachusetts. They are here in 1930, and Clyde is married by then. John Alfred is married to Dorothy Skees here in 1925 and then they are in Louisiana by 1930. He operates as he was in 1910. It was called the New York Store.

 

HANNAH PUTNAM  Washington, Washington County

She is 76 MI and has a grandson, Winton Hill 18 CA with her. Hannah Bunce is the widow of Nathan Putnam as shown in 1870 in Milan, Monroe County, Michigan, and was living with her son Alfred (above) in 1900 in Milan, but it was by then in Washtenaw County.

Jacob is a son of John and Rosella, German family. He is 21 IA, Augusta Marshall his wife is 20 IA and Gladys is 5/12 IA. They are in Wapello County in 1930.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Washington, Washington County

He is 68 VA and living alone. He is a son of Jacob Putman jr. from Hampshire County, Virginia. German family. John's wife Mary Rosella Whitsel died here in 1914 and John will hang around until he dies in 1934 well into his 80s.

 

MINA PUTMAN  Washington, Washington County

Mina Belville is the widow of Charles C. Putman from here. She is now 58 IA. She has a daughter in law and some grandchildren with her. They would be Oral's family. Oral (who would be 35 now) is missing in the Census. He died here December 13, 1916. The wife was Bessie 30 IA, the children Everett 7 IA, Bessie 5 IA and Mildred 3 IA. Also there is a lodger, Roma Clifton 85 OH. They are here in 1925 and 1930 and Bessie has remarried to Jacob Hertig by 1930.

He is listed as 16 IA and the person he is enumerated with is not registered. He is the son of John and Rosella here in town. He will marry Gladys Nickerson in 1925 and they are here in 1930.

He is 34 IA, Mary Ann Chalupa 29 IA, Lorene E. 9 IA, Wilson J. (John) 7 IA and Maurice 1 1/12 IA. He is a son of John Putman and Rosella Whitsel and was born here. This is a German family out of Virginia way back when. They are here in 1925, and then Mary Ann is widowed here in 1930. German family from Hampshire County Virginia.

 

JAMES C. PUTMAN  Seymour, Wayne County

He is 48 IA, Minnie B. Wilson 47 IA, Byron E. 22 IA, Bernard J. 16 OK and Ruth C. 14 OK. He is a son of William A. Putman and Mary Elizabeth Nelson, and was born in Adams County, Iowa. In 1900 he was in Appanoose County, Iowa. He obviously went to Oklahoma for a few years, and was in Texas County, Oklahoma in the 1910 census. They are here in 1925 and 1930. Southern Putman family out of VA > KY > IN > MO > IA.

 

JAMES R. PUTMAN  Seymour, Wayne County

He is listed 70 IN. His wife Margaret Bell is 69 PA. He is a son of Benjamin Putman and Melvina Baker from Linn County. They were in Appanoose County in 1880 and 1900. In 1910 they were in Woods County, Oklahoma. Then, when the State 1925 census was released, it shows that Margaret has died and Jim has married a gal named Susan from Missouri. Southern Putmans.

One of the 'Southern' Putman guys. He was born right here, a son of William Putman and Mary Jane Hayes from Rush County Indiana. He is now 53 IA. Ivy A. Gordon his wife 49 MO, Dessie (Dessa Frances) 21 IA (listed a son in 1900 and as a daughter now), Frank G. 18 IA and Cleo C. a son 14 IA. He’ll be here until he dies April 11, 1946.

 

HARRY PUTNAM  Wayne County

He is 27 MO, Alice 25 MO and they have Earnest C. 4 6/12 MO. He is a son of Llewellyn and Lydia Putnam from Putnam County, Missouri. He was born there and still at home in 1910. They are in Kansas City, Missouri by 1930.

 

DAN (DANIEL RANSOM) PUTMAN  Fort Dodge, Webster County

He is 34 IA, Maude Van Winkle 32 IA, Helen 8 IA and Tom (James Thomas) 5 WI. He is a son of Frank Harrison Putnam and his first wife Ida Langdon. Frank was a son of Harrison Putnam and Clementine P. Lovering. They are in Peoria, Illinois in 1930.

 

JAMES A. PUTNAM  Buffalo Center, Winnebago County

He is 58 IL, Hannah Hyde 50 IA, Mary L. 12 IA. They were here in 1900 and 1910. His son Miles is now married and in Jackson County, Iowa. Hannah is widowed here in 1925 and in 1930 in Linn County with Mary who is married then.

 

NILES C. (CURTIS) PUTNAM  Ridgeway, Winneshiek County

He is 40 IA, Edna M. Cobb his wife is 42 IA, Ruth A. 13 IA and Grant C. 9 IA. He is a son of George and Adelia Putnam, and was at home with his folks in 1900 in Plymouth County and married in Steele County Minnesota in 1905. They are with her folks in Mower County Minnesota in 1930. He is still working for the railroad as he has all his working life. OBITS gives Grant C.’s birth as July 11, 1910 and death here in Independence Iowa on March 5, 2001.

 

EMMA PUTMAN  Winneshiek County

She is the widow of Suranno Putman and has been here since the 1870s. She is now 66 NY and living with her son Raymond. They are here in 1930.

 

RAYMOND PUTMAN  Winneshiek County

This Ray has on the other hand been here all his life. He is 41 IA. He is a son of Surreno and Emma Putman. His dad has died, but mom, Emma Dean, is here at age 66 NY as is his sister Bertha 47 IA. Ray is not married. Guess he figures these are enough gals for one guy. Ray is here with mom in 1925 and 1930, still single.

He is 44 IA, Olive 42 IL and there are two boarders. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Elizabeth Beaudette from Lyon County. He was there in 1880 and with his widowed mom in Sioux County in 1900. He was married to Olive and here in 1910. By 1930 he will have a new wife, Zina Warntzis, born in Holland.

He looks like the Harry L. who was a son of Herbert and Bertha and was at home with them in 1900 in Holt County, Nebraska. They are divorced by 1930 and Mary and the kids are still here with her folks.

He is 37 IA IL US, Lenora 34 NE.

He is 44 IA, Nora A. 24 IA and Wanda L. 1 7/12 IA. If the age was 24 not 44 he would be Fred's son from Chickasaw County (1900). If it is 44 I have no clue at all. At any rate Nora will marry a Zimmerman guy and she and Wanda will be with him in Douglas County Minnesota in 1930.

He is 16 IL and living with his uncle Elliott Stetters. He is the son of Jonathan Putnam and Jessie Stetters as shown in Sangamon County, Illinois in 1910. He is married to Florence Castleman here in 1925 and 1930.

He is 48 IA IA IA and a clerk in a wholesale something. Alta Rogers his wife is 46 IA, and they have Dorothy 14 OK. He is a son of James R. and Margaret Putman from here. I don’t find him in 1910 or 1920, but his folks were in Wood County, Oklahoma in 1910 and that’s probably where Dorothy was born. James was a son of Benjamin Putman and Melvina Baker out of Linn County, Missouri. Southern Putmans.
