This is
the first census that lists the folks by name, age, and the state they were
born in. Not always that easy to identify them, but now we know the characters.
This listing will be by county. Once again, if possible, I will give the number
that Eben Putnam assigned. This census was pretty much put together by Rand
Putnam of California, who sorted it out and assigned the numbers where
possible. Many thanks, Rand.

He is indexed as Aaron 40 NC a
cabinet maker, Margaret 38 NC. They will be here in 1860, but he will be listed
as Allen 50 NH, and she as Martha 48 NH. Know that guy. So this listing should
read Allen 40 NH, Martha (Foss) 38 NH. Allen is a son of Gideon Putnam (1877)
and Sarah Barnes of Alstead, Cheshire County, NH. He was born there August 3,
1809. He married Martha Foss in Reading August 2, 1835 and were there in the

census.
(LORENZO)
PERRY PUTNAM Lowell, Middlesex
County
He is a son of John Putnam and
Sabrina Wiley and a grandson of Joseph Putnam number 1870. He is a carpenter 27
NH, his daughter Lucy is 7 MA, Alfred F. (Warren in later reports) 3 MA. Also
there is a Warren F. Putnam (?) 78 MA. What I think is this is just sloppy
recording. The son Alfred is 7 and Warren 3 and the Lucy is Lucy Harris 27 MA.
These ages would tie in perfectly in 1860. Anyway, Perry had married Clarissa
Maria Brocklebank on November 25, 1841 in Ipswich. She died here in Lowell May
21, 1849. He then married Lucy Harris, and will be here with her in 1860
through 1880. Lucy had married Joseph Bean in Andover in 1844, and Warren born

found a birth record that Newell was a son of Asa Putnam (1708) and Eunice
Smith. His widowed dad is in nearby Stow now. I don’t ever find that family,
but they would be around here someplace. His dad Asa’s folks were from here in
Stow and Sudbury before that. I would guess that the Caroline Smith here was
probably married to one of his mom’s brothers. He will be in Townsend, Mass. in
1860 and married to Sarah Ann Troke. He was born in Lunenburg, Worcester County
March 29, 1829 and will die in Townsend on December 26, 1901.

Elizabeth is probably Mary’s mother who married Samuel Rice in New Salem, Mass.
before heading off to Maine with a bunch of families. Franklin will be in
Minneapolis, Minnesota by 1870. Lucien and Joseph Robie Putnam are sons of
Sterne Putnam (#1804) and Hannah Townsend of Houlton. Lucien was born there
