MARIAN C. (CABOT) PUTNAM  Barnstable County

She is the wife of James Jackson Putnam, who is the son of Charles Gideon (1974).  She is 42 MA Sep 1857 and has living with her a daughter Elizabeth C. 12 MA Feb 1888, son James J. Jr. 9 MA Sep 1890, daughter Marian C. 7 MA Apr 1893, daughter Louisa H. 5 MA Feb 1895, and daughter Francis C. 2 MA Oct 1897.  This must be a summer home as James is still in Boston pretty much by himself. They are all there in 1910. Marian is widowed with the kids in Boston in 1920.

 

SAMUEL A. (ABBOTT) PUTNAM  Barnstable, Barnstable County

He is 59 NY Jul 1840.  Also there is his wife Harriet Angeline Parker 60 MA Nov 1839. I have a 2004 calendar put out by the Cape Cod Five with old Cape Photographs. One was a picture of the photography studio of S. A. Putnam on Main Street in Hyannis. Sadly the building, and the entire block were destroyed by fire in December 1904. They were in Townsend, Mass. in 1870, and Harriet and their son were in Nashua, New Hampshire in 1880. They are here in 1910, and Harriett will be widowed here in 1920 at age 80. He is a son of Amos (1882) and Dorcas Putnam from Wilton, New Hampshire.

 

A. (ADRIAN) LEWIS PUTNAM  Provincetown, Barnstable County

He is 65 MA Aug 1834.  Also there are his wife Adelaide Osborn Cook 60 MA Jan 1840, daughter Nellie F. 36 MA Nov 1863, daughter Abbie C. 30 MA Jul 1869, and mother-in-law Abigail R. Cook 81 MA Apr 1819. He is a son of Adrian Putnam (2001) and Fanny Flint of Danvers. He was born there August 29, 1834 and married Addie here in Provincetown on December 18, 1860. They are here through the 1920.

 

BERTHA F. PUTNAM  Sandwich, Barnstable County

She is 55 MA May 1845. She is Bertha Foster, widow of William Malcomb Putnam who died here in 1890. They were here in Sandwich in the 1880 census. You can see that for who he was. Bertha will die here in 1902. Both are buried in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

 

MARY PUTNAM  Adams, Berkshire County

She is 73 MA Jun 1827 and living with sister Carrie and her husband Augustus M Bailey. She is an unwed daughter of Jonathan Putnam and Reliance Bristol of Pittsfield and then Adams.

 

MARGARET PUTNAM  North Adams, Berkshire County

She is 47 PA Feb 1853. She is widowed and lives by herself. She is here in 1910 too.

 

DR. THOMAS PUTNAM  North Adams, Berkshire County

He is Thomas John Putnam, number 2546, a son of Thomas Putnam (1144) and Mary Harris of Putnam, Ontario. He is listed as No Age CND Dec.--. He was born December 25, 1848 so would be 51 years old now. Also there are his wife Emma Kate Hayes No Age NY Nov, son Hobart 17 PA Jun 1882 and servant Margaret Roddy 35 VT Feb 1865.  They were in Pittsburgh, Penn. in 1880. They are in Springfield in 1910

 

BETSEY PUTNAM  Becket, Berkshire County

She is 75 MA Sep 1824 and living with son-in-law of William Hodge. She is Betsy Clark widow of David Putnam Junior of Becket. William Hodge married her daughter Anna or Lucy.

 

HENRY H. (HARRISON) PUTNAM  Dalton, Berkshire County

He is the son of Jonathan Marcus Putnam and Phebe Rouse. Marcus was the son of David, who is the son of Isaac (226).  He is now 57 MA Jun 1842 and living with his wife Mary Jane Cady 57 MA Jun 1842, and daughter Lucy I. 31 MA Dec 1868. 

 

ALFRED H. PUTNAM  Great Barrington, Berkshire County

He is 22 VT NY CAN Nov 1877 and boarding with Clarence B. Rowe. 

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Pittsfield, Berkshire County

He is 33 MA Feb 1867 and is living with his wife Lizzy Cambridge 32 NY Dec 1867, daughter Florence 9 MA Mar 1891, daughter Rose 6 MA Dec 1893, son George 2 MA Jun 1897, and brother-in-law Samuel Cambridge 23 NY Dec 1876. He is a son of Charles and Almira Putnam. He was with them in West Springfield in 1870, and was single here in Pittsfield in 1880, and will be widowed here in 1920 and in Queens New York with his son in 1930.

 

WILLIAM E.  PUTNAM  Pittsfield, Berkshire County

He is 22 NY IL NY (NY NY NY in all other censuses) Jun 1877 and is living with his wife Maud V. Roberts 21 MA Aug 1878, son Clyde F. 3 NY Nov 1896 and daughter Meta I. 3/12 MA Feb 1900. They are here again in 1910 through 1930.

 

GORHAM (H.) PUTNAM  Mansfield, Bristol County

He is the son of Solon Putnam (2568) and Mary Ann Rice. He is now 55 VT Nov 1844 and boarding with Abbie J. Copeland.  His wife was Helen Clarinda Rice, but he lists himself as being single. He was in Springfield, Vermont in 1880 and will be in Claremont, New Hampshire in 1910 and Merrimack County, New Hampshire in 1920. He’ll be ‘single’ in those reports too.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  New Bedford, Bristol County

He is 31 MA Jul 1868 and living with his wife Adelaide Wentz 30 NY Oct 1869, daughter Priscilla S. 4 MA Jan 1896, and daughter Faith A. 2 MA May 1898. He is a son of William Malcomb Putnam and Bertha Foster of Boston and then Sandwich, Mass. He was home there in 1880. They are in Orange, Connecticut in 1910, and in New Haven, Connecticut in 1920 and 1930.

 

MARY C. PUTNAM  New Bedford, Bristol County

She is 43 MA Dec 1857 and living with her son Edward R. 17 MA Jan 1883, daughter Lucy H. 15 MA Jan 1885, and son Harry 10 MA Mar 1890.  She is widowed here in 1920 and 1930. Mary Dollard was married to Wilbur Allen Putnam. They were married here August 2, 1880 and he died here in 1891. Wilbur was a son of Robert Daniel Putnam and Lucy Hutchins from Brandon, Rutland County Vermont. His dad was from Canada.

 

EFFIE PUTNAM  Norton, Bristol County

She is 19 VT Mar 1881 and boarding with Orris G. Westman. She looks to be the daughter of Alfred Putnam and Emery Davis from Cambridge, Vermont. She is probably a student at Wheaton College here in town.

 

HOWARD S. PUTNAM  Taunton, Bristol County

He is the son of Horace Abraham Putnam (2586) from Montpelier, Vermont. He is now 47 VT May 1853.  Also there are his wife Alice L. 43 VT Dec 1856, and niece Catherine C. Smith 23 VT Jul 1876. His mother Mary Jane Stephens is widowed in Montpelier now, but will be down here with him in 1910.

 

CHARLES W. (WILLIS) PUTNAM  Amesbury, Essex County

He is the son of John Brother Putnam (2369).  His is now 27 MA Feb 1873 and living with his wife Anna B. Miller 25 GER Jul 1874.  His folks are in Peabody. He and Anna are here in 1910 and 1920 too.

 

EDMUND PUTNAM  Beverly, Essex County

He is the son of John Henry Putnam, who is the son of John (1783).  He is 37 MA May 1863 and is living with his wife Mary Frances Bestwick 39 MA Oct 1860, son Scott B. 12 MA Apr 1888, daughter Marion 7 MA Jun 1892, and mother-in-law Sarah F. Bestwick 59 ME Aug 1840.

 

EDWARD A. (AUSTIN) PUTNAM  Beverly, Essex County

He is now 55 MA Dec 1844.  Also there are his wife Adaline Augusta Dodge 53 MA Feb 1847, son Austin F. (Francis) 25 MA Apr 1875, and niece Annie E. Dodge 36 MA Oct 1863. He is a son of Edwin Francis Putnam (2073) and Olivia Woodbury from Danvers. The son Austin married Grace Porter June 23, 1897, but something happened as she is back with her folks in Boxford. See that listing coming up.

 

JEREMIAH PUTNAM  Beverly, Essex County

He is 65 MA Mar 1835 and is living with his second wife Lucy Ann Trow 65 MA Jan 1835, boarder Richard Gass 79 MA Apr 1881, son-in-law Charles H. Ober 26 MA Mar 1874, boarder William R. Chereries 21 CND Aug 1878, and boarder Edmund A. Barry 22 CND Oct 1877. He is a son of William Putnam (1780) and Lucy Lovett. He was born in Ipswich. His first wife Emmeline Burchstead died in 1891 and he married Lucy here in 1892. She will die in 1906 and he will be widowed here in 1910.

 

MARTHA E. PUTNAM  Beverly, Essex County

Martha E. Claxton is 60 MA Sep 1839, the widow John Henry Putnam (1783). They were here in 1880, and she is still here in 1910 and 1920.

 

BURTON L. PUTNAM  Boxford, Essex County

He is 20 MA May 1880 and boarding with Joshua W. Clark.  His is the son of Daniel Poor Putnam, son of Joel, son of Elias (1775).  He was born in Danvers. In 1910 and 1920, he will be married in Hartford, Connecticut.

 

ELIZABETH P. PUTNAM  Boxford, Essex County

Elizabeth Putnam Pope is the widow of Andrew Merriam Putnam (1525) and is now 84 MA Feb 1816.  She is living with Eunice C. Knowles 78 MA Aug 1821.

 

GRACE A. (AUGUSTA) PUTNAM  Boxford, Essex County

She is 26 MA Oct 1873 and living with her father Henry H. Potter. She is the wife/ex-wife of Austin Francis Putnam. He is in Beverley with his folks Edward and Adeline Putnam. Both say they are married for 3 years. Maybe it isn’t working out. I don’t find either in 1910, but Austin is by himself in Middleton in 1920 and married in Danvers in 1930.

 

OTIS F. (FLINT) PUTNAM  Boxford, Essex County

He is the son of Adrian Putnam from Danvers (2001) and is now 67 MA Feb 1833.  Also there are his wife Adaline Durgin Batchelder 66 MA Oct 1833, daughter Lucy F. 36 MA Feb 1864, and servant Flora M. Crosby 25 ENG May 1875. Otis was born in Danvers February 18, 1833 and will die here December 2, 1909. Adaline was born in nearby Wenham October 17, 1834 and will die here July 15, 1907. Their kids are all back in Danvers. Their son George is now running Otis’ Ice business.

 

ABBIE B. (BROWN) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is the daughter of Augustus Putnam (2018) and is 63 MA Apr 1837 and boarder Sophia Shuler 67 MA Apr 1833. 

 

ADDISON W. (WEBB) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is the son of Edwin Francis (2073) and is now 60 MA Jun 1840 and boarding with his stepmother Lucinda H. Putnam.  He was married to Henrietta Stanwood in 1871 and divorced by 1880.

 

ALICE M. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is the daughter of Henry Flint Putnam (1528).  She is now 55 MA Dec 1845 and boarding with her uncle Calvin Putnam.  She is in Salem by 1920 and back here in 1930.

 

AUSTIN H. (HERBERT) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is the son of Israel Herbert (2021) and is now 47 MA Apr 1853.  Also there are his wife Ida May Lyford 47 NH Mar 1853, son Harold L. 16 IA Jan 1884, and daughter Sarah P. 10 MA Apr 1890.  They were in Hamilton County Iowa in 1885 and that was where Harold was born. They are here in 1910 and he is widowed by 1920.

 

CALVIN PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is number 1529 and is 85 MA May 1815.  Also there is Alice M. 55 MA Dec 1845, boarder Mary Lynch 42 MA Sep 1857, and boarder Henry Pitman 20 NS Feb 1880.  He was married to Mary Putnam Pope.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 41 MA Dec 1858 and living with his widowed mother Louisa Knight 79 ME.  He is the son of John Collins, son of Phineas (1991).  They live with his sister Carrie Ray 40 MA and her husband William Ray.

 

DAVID A. (ABBOTT) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 38 MA Feb 1862 and living with his wife Alice Thornton Merrill 37 MA Jun 1862, son Steward A. 18 MA Apr 1882, daughter Mildred T. 16 MA Mar 1884, daughter Adaline A. 12 MA Jul 1888, son Earle W. 6 MA Jun 1893, daughter Louise T. 3 MA Jul 1896, and son Phillip M. 1 MA Apr 1899.  He is the son of Nathan Tapley, son of John (2204). They are in Riverside, California in 1910 and 1920.

 

EDWARD E. (ERNEST) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is the son of Edward Augustus, who is the son of Orin, who is the son of Matthew (1993).  He is now 21 MA Oct 1878 and living with stepfather Edward E. Dalrymple. 

 

ELMER O. (OTIS) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is the son of Otis Flint, son of Adrian (2001) and Addie Batchelder.  He is now 28 MA Jan 1872 and is living with his wife Nettie M. Pitman 24 NS Aug 1876, son Otis F. 2nd 2 MA Nov 1897, and mother-in-law Margaret Pitman 69 NS Jun 1831. 

 

EUNICE L. (CRAM) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is the widow of Thomas Meady Putnam (2065).  She is now 85 NH Mar 1815 and living with daughter S. Agnes 45 MA Sep 1854. Agnes will be a nurse in Springfield by 1910.

 

GEORGE O. (OSGOOD) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 39 MA Dec 1860 and living with his wife Sarah Butler 35 MA Jun 1864, daughter Fannie F. 15 MA Nov 20, 1884, son Nathaniel B. 13 MA Jan 26, 1887, son Leverett N. 11 MA Dec 2, 1888, daughter Lizzie G. 10 MA Jan 16, 1890, son Philip C. 8 MA Jun 16, 1892, son Carl H. 5 MA Aug 23, 1894, daughter Doris A. 2 MA Jun 2, 1897, and Sarah’s brother Nelson Butler 37 MA. He is the son of Otis Flint, son of Adrian (2001). His dad Otis has an Ice Plant in Danvers and George will be running it. George had been married to Elizabeth D. Williams in 1880 and she died from brain disease on December 28, 1881. He then married Sarah January 15, 1884. They are here through the 1930 and I am sure forever.

 

HANNAH E. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is the daughter of Elbridge Gerry Putnam (1999).  She is 67 MA Jan 1833 and boarding with Elizabeth Baker. 

 

HARRIET O. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

Harriet Osborne is the widow of James Wellington (2756) and is 67 MA Mar 1833.

 

HENRY A. (ALONZO) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is number 2070 and is 73 MA May 1827 and boarding with Albert Bristow. 

 

HORACE G. (GRANVILLE) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 56 MA Sep 1843 and living with wife Louise Field Skidmore 54 MA Jun 1845, and daughter Lena M. 28 MA Apr 1872.  He is the son of Orin Putnam and Sallie Nurse Orin was a son of Matthew Putnam (1993).

 

JAMES W. (WARREN) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is the son of William (3063) and is 55 MA Mar 1845.  Also there are his wife Martha Ann Hinxman 53 NS Aug 1846, son James H. 28 MA Sep 1871, daughter Eliza A. 24 MA Jul 1875, son Henry C. 19 MA Aug 1870 (Actually he was born August 15, 1880), daughter Alice M. 21 MA Sep 1878, and son John 14 MA Jul 1885.

He is 53 MA Feb 1847 and is listed with his second wife Emeline 48 MA Mar 1852, daughter Mary A. 15 MA Feb 1885, daughter Sarah 11 MA Mar 1889, daughter Carrie L. 5 MA Mar 1895, and daughter Eunice H. 11/12 MA Jun 1899.  He is the son of John Collins Putnam (son of Phineas Putnam 1991) and Louisa Knight from here. They are here in 1910 and 1920 too.

He is number 1535 and is now 72 MA Mar 1828.  Also there are his wife Martha A. Brown 65 MA Dec 1834, daughter Lucy A. 39 MA Feb 1861, son Charles A. 22 MA Oct 1877, son Jessie H. 25 MA Oct 1874, and boarder Nelson Ferris 22 NS May 1878. 

 

JOSEPH B. (BILLINGS) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is number 2401 and is now 83 MA Apr 1817.  Also there are his wife Sarah A. H. Bickum 76 MA May 1824 and daughter Sarah E. Whitney 54 MA Sep 1846. 

 

LOUISA R. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

Louisa Knight is the widow of John Collins Putnam, who is the son of Phineas (1991).  She is now 79 ME Apr 1821 and living with son-in-law William C. Ray and his wife, her daughter Carrie 40 MA. Her son Charles 41 MA is here too.

 

LUCINDA M. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

Lucinda Preston is the widow of Edwin Francis Putnam (2073) and is now 78 MA Feb 1822.  Also here are her son Addison W. 60 MA Jun 1840 and his wife Emma A. Morrison 54 ME Jul 1846, and her brother Charles Morrison. 

 

LYDIA F. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 49 (more like 39) MA a patient in Danvers Insane Hospital. She will be here in 1910 and 1920. She looks to be the daughter of Edward Putnam and Lydia Davis from Lowell.

 

MADELINE P. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

Madeline Black is the widow of Alfred Walter Putnam, who is the son of Alfred (2043).  She is 64 MA May 1836 and living with her mother Mary P. Black.  She will be here still in 1920.

 

MARGARET H. (HILTZ) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 17 MA Aug 1882 and living with her uncle Wallace P. Perry. She is a daughter of George Clinton Putnam and Frances Ellen Parsons of Danvers. George died in 1888, Frances in 1890.

 

MARY W. (WHITTIER) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is the widow of Daniel Franklin Putnam (3187) and is now 58 MA Jun 1841.  Also there is her daughter Bessie 35 MA Oct 1864, and servant Katie Callahan 18 IRL Sep 1881.  I have her daughter’s given name as Betsey.

 

MELVIN B. (BURTON) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 55 MA Apr 1845 and living with his sister Fidelia A. 50 MA Jan 1850.  He is the son of Joel, son of Elias (1775).  They are both still here together in 1920.

 

MILLIE PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

Millie McPheters is the second wife and now widow of Franklin Weston Putnam (2084) who died October 28, 1882 and is 46 ME Aug 1853.  Also there are boarders Katherine F. Elwell 25 MA Jan 1875, boarder Susan W. 21 MA Apr 1879, and stepson Walter E. Putnam 28 MA Jul 1871.  Millie will be here alone in 1920. Walter will be in Saugus in 1910 (says he’s widowed then) and married there in Saugus by 1920.

 

RALPH F. (FRANKLIN) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is the son of Franklin Weston (2084) and is 30 MA Apr 1870.  Also there is his wife Mary S. 32 SCT Jun 1867. They are here in 1910 and just he and the kids in 1920.

 

SAMUEL C. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 55 MA Jan 1845 and listed with his wife Eunice P. R. Kenney 55 MA Apr 1845, son Frank E. 29 MA Aug 1871, and sister-in-law Mary E. Kenney 59 MA Dec 1840.  He is the Son of John C., son of Phineas (1991). Eunice is widowed here in 1910.

 

SUSAN PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is number 1543 and is now 87 MA Mar 1813.  Also there are her sister-in-law Ellen 79 MA Mar 1821, nephew-in-law Wendell P. Hood 61 MA Feb 1839, niece Maria P. Hood 57 MA Apr 1843, grandniece Susie M. Hood 24 MN May 1876, one boarder, and one servant. 

 

WALLACE P. (PERLEY) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is the son of Simeon (2016) and is now 51 MA Dec 1848.  Also there are his wife Mattie C. Wilkins 42 MA May 1858 and daughter Mabel W. 19 MA Apr 1880. They are around in 1910 and in 1920, and Mabel and her husband Eugene Huston will be with them in 1920.

 

WEBSTER F. (FLETCHER) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is the son of Thomas Meady (2065) and is now 43 MA Nov 1857.  Also listed are his wife, Helen Preston Meldram 36 MA Apr 1864, daughter Marion H. 7 MA Sep 1892, sons Webster F. Jr. 3 MA Dec 1896, Gentlee 1/12 MA May 1900, and 2 boarders.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 63 MA Apr 1837 and is listed with his wife Nellie S. 45 CT Mar 1855.  He is the son of Robert Putnam, son of Asa (1716), and Mary Hutchinson. He’s been here all his life.

 

WILLIAM T. (TAPLEY) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 32 MA Mar 1868 and is listed with his wife Lalia Woodbury 32 MA Aug 1868 and son Nathan T. 11 MA Dec 1889.  He is the son of Nathan Tapley, son of John Putnam (2204) and Sarah Tapley. His father Nathan is presently in Riverside, California, and William will be there by the 1910.

 

PUTNAM KIDS  Gloucester, Essex County

Ella L. is 15 CND Mar 1885, Christina A. 13 MA Apr 1887, and Artemus C. 11 MA Dec 1888. They are all living with their stepfather James Diggers. Their mother Catherine is about 36 CAN based on the 1910. Also based on the 1910, both parents are Canadian. Based on the birthplaces, the family came down from Canada about 1886, and the dad died around 1890, so never were in any censuses. In 1920, all the families in this area were Canadian and worked in the shipyards. I would assume the family came down from Nova Scotia to this seaport. They are all, except Ella, here in 1910 and 1920. Their parents are Catherine Ferguson and Artemas C. Putnam. He was from Liverpool Nova Scotia. I think his folks were John and Margaret Putnam from Liverpool, but I don’t know who John’s parents were.

 

CHARLIE O. (ORIN) PUTNAM  Gloucester, Essex County

He is 63 MA Mar 1837 and living with his wife Mary Ann Crosby 63 CND Jan 1837, and boarders Deborah Runlett 43 MA May 1857, and Charles Van 51 ME Jan 1849.  He is the son of Orin, son of Matthew (1993).

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Gloucester, Essex County

He is 50 single and a fisherman. He was obviously at sea at the time as he and all the others were listed with unknown places of birth. He may be the son of Jefferson and Judith Lampher Putnam from Peabody. He is in between wives now and will be in Merrimac in 1910 with wife 3 and alone again there in 1920.

 

HENRY PUTNAM  Gloucester, Essex County

He is 27 MA. 

 

ANNA J. PUTNAM  Haverhill, Essex County

She is 61 IRL Aug 1838 and servant to Ernest Robarge. 

 

EDWARD M. (MARSHALL) PUTNAM  Haverhill, Essex County

He is the son of Marshall Putnam (2791) from Croydon, New Hampshire, and is 43 NH Jan 1857.  Also there are his second wife Gertrude Zelma Durant 33 VT Nov 1866, son Marshall D. 9 MA Mar 1891, daughter Marion D. 5 MA Feb 1895, daughter Pauline 1 MA Dec 1898, and daughter Maud H. 14 MA Aug 1885. They are here in 1920 too. This is the line of Ed Putnam who has done and is doing so much genealogy work on all the various Putnams and Putmans.

 

LEVERETT O. (OSGOOD) PUTNAM  Haverhill, Essex County

He is a son of George Adams Putnam (2060) and Lydia Preston. He is 62 MA Aug 1837.  Also there are his wife Lizzie G. 63 NH Sep 1836 and son-in-law Mark D. Carrow.  He was previously married to Caroline L. Based on his marriage record we get his folks as James Hervey Putnam (3068) and his third wife Ellen (Morris) Whirling and he was born in Salem. Actually he is Arthur Whirling, a son with Ellen’s first husband Edward Whirling. Both were from England. James Hervey Putnam is his stepfather. Arthur changed his name to Putnam when adopted.

I assume Joseph will die, as in 1910 Annie is married to Thomas Reardon and has the two kids with her. In 1910 the kids list their dad as being from Canada. Someone has said his folks were Dennis and Matilda Putnam, but I can’t ever find them.

He is a lawyer and they were in Canton, Norfolk County in 1870 and 1880. They have a summer home here in Manchester By The Sea. They are in Boston in 1910. In 1920, Harriet is widowed there and has Elizabeth with her.

He is a son of Benjamin and Mary Putnam of Danvers, and a grandson of Simeon and Angelia Putnam. They are all in Marblehead in 1920, and the son Joseph Gardner will be married by then.

He had married Emily’s sister Lillian who died here in 1890. See Lineage p. 339. He is a son of Charles Lovell Putnam and Elizabeth Harriman of Saugus. Charles was a son of Samuel Putnam and Rebecca Patch. It seems Marion will die, and by 1920 Emily will have remarried to Frank Sloan here in Saugus.

All three will be here in Deerfield in 1910 and 1920, and Elsie will be married by 1920.

She is 59 MA Feb 1841 and single. She is listed with Warren M. Howes.  He is married to her sister Celia 60 MA. They are daughters of Israel Putnam and his first wife Maria Warner from Bernardston. Celia was called Amelia back in 1850. They have both been here in Franklin County all their lives.

He is 64 MA May 1836 and listed with his wife Hannah H. Day 64 MA Sep 1835. He was in Orange, Franklin County in 1850 and in Leominster, Worcester County in 1870 and 1880. He is a son of Danforth Putnam and his first wife Martha Porter from Orange. He will die here in 1905, Hannah in 1906.

He is number 1838 and is now 93 MA Nov 1806.  Also listed are his son Willard 61 MA Sep 1838, granddaughter Mabel Lucile 4 MA Jun 1895, granddaughter-in-law Ina 30 TN May 1870, farm helper Archibald F. Smith 31 VT Jun 1868, and housekeeper Elnora F. Smith 23 VT May 1877.  Ina should be the wife of Bertrand Flavel Putnam, Willard’s second son. Mabel is Willard’s from his second marriage. Sam’s wife Elizabeth Felton Richardson died in 1894. In 1910 Willard is on his third marriage to a Harriet, and Sam is 103 years old then and doing just fine.

He is 8 MA August 17, 1891 and living with grandfather Alexander Holton.  He is boarding here in 1910. In 1920 and 1930 he is in La Verne, Los Angeles County California with his mother Nettie Holden. No idea as to his dad.

He is the son of William (1819) and is now 78 MA Oct 1822.  Also listed are his wife Catherine S. Britt 61 VT Feb 1839, son Abraham P. (Percy) 28 MA Feb 1872, and his new wife Carrie A. Harris 25 MA Jul 1875, and their son Abraham P. 7/12 MA Oct 1899. Also living here is his brother NATHAN BOND PUTNAM 73 MA Apr 1827 who says he is married for 45 years. His wife Isabelle Hammond is listed separately living with one of their kids. Would guess he is widowed now. It looks like they are all in some sort of hotel here, as there are lots of others listed here. Catherine is widowed in 1910 and 1920 living with her son Percy here in Orange.

He is 53 MA Mar 1847 and listed with his wife Mary Jane Parker 49 PA Jan 1851, daughter L. Frances 26 MA Nov 1873, son Charles H. 23 MA Jan 1876, daughter Alice B. 16 MA Feb 1884, and boarder J. Wesley Jerome 18 MA Jan 1882.  He is the son of Danforth, son of William (1819).

 

MARY S. PUTNAM  Orange, Franklin County

She is 86 MA Jan 1815 and living with her daughter Alice S. 53 MA and her husband Wilson Mann 63 MA. She is Mary Merriman 55 MA, widow of John Putnam number 1820. She was widowed here in Orange as far back as the 1860s.

 

W. (WILLIAM) D. PUTNAM  Orange, Franklin County

He is the son of Erwin Levi Putnam of Wardsboro, Vermont, son of Levi, son of Levi (598) and is listed as W.D. 28 VT Jul 1871.  He will be married to Louise from Canada here in Orange in 1910 and 1920.

 

CARRIE W. PUTNAM  Warwick, Franklin County

She is 41 Jan 1859 and divorced. She has Pearl A. 18 MA VT MA and Wallace H. 13 MA VT MA. She lives with her widowed mother Phebe Harris 77 MA. She is here in 1910 and 1920 but the kids aren’t around anywhere. Caroline Ward Harris was married to Charles A. Putnam, son of Hiram Putnam and Mary Small from Wolcott, Vermont and then Ashburnham, Mass. Charles is currently remarried in Athol, Mass. She is here through 1920.

 

STILLMAN H. (HOLDEN) PUTNAM  Wendell, Franklin County

He is the son of William (1819) and is now 75 MA Mar 1825.  Also there are his son Ernest S. (Sumner) 33 MA Oct 1866 and daughter Julia I. Chase 44 MA Jul 1855.  His wife Abigail Hammond must have died.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  ??, Hampden County

He is 63 MA Jun 1836 and is listed with his wife Olive W. 65 MA Dec 1834 and daughter Harriett L. 43 MA May 1857.  He is the son of Elijah, son of John (1083). They have been in Gardner, Worcester County up till now, and will be back there in 1910.

 

CLESSON (WELLINGTON) PUTNAM  Holyoke, Hampden County

He is 37 MA Jun 1862 and is listed with his wife Emma L. Sisson 33 MA Jul 1866, Clesson 14 MA Jul 1885 (listed as a son but is a daughter Clessie), and daughter Lillian 5 MA May 1895.  He is the son of Nathan Bond, son of William (1819).

 

HARRY PUTNAM  Holyoke, Hampden County

He is 31 VT Jan 1869 and boarding with Alonzo Warren. He’ll be married here in 1910 and 1920. He is a son of John Henry Putnam (#2825) and Alice Augusta Eddy. He was born in Grafton Vermont January 23, 1868. They are here through 1920.

 

MARY L. PUTNAM  Longmeadow, Hampden County

Mary Lovell Knight is 73 MA Nov 1826 and living with her son-in-law Harry C. Martin.  She is the widow of Alvin Woodbury Putnam, the son of Tyler (2734).

 

WILLIAM PUTMAN  Monson, Hampden County

He is 7 MA Apr. 1893. He and several young kids live with Henry and Lizzie Ayers. This is probably a foster care family thing.

 

ALFRED S. PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 54 MA Mar 1846 and is listed with his wife Alice Augusta Paine 49 MA Dec 1850, son Robert H. 24 MA Dec 1875, daughter Addie B. 22 MA Oct 1877, son Rufus E. 20 MA May 1880, and daughter Marion 14 MA Jan 1886.  He is the son of Flavius Josephus, son of Amos (1498a). They are here in 1910. Alfred is widowed and Rufus is married then.

 

ANNA L. PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

She is the daughter of Thomas Putnam and Harriet Blood from here. She is 42 MA Apr 1858.  Also there are her sisters Cora F. 37 MA Feb 1863 and Harriet Amsden 47 MA.  Anna will be here still through 1920.

 

EDWIN J. PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is number 2517, son of Benjamin Willard Putnam (1138) of Charlestown, NH, and he is 31 NH Jun 1868.  Also there are his wife Ethel S. Hunt 29 NH Dec 1870, daughter Dorothea M. 1 MA Apr 1899 and father-in-law Charles L. Hunt.  Note that Ethel and Dorothea have separate listings but were living with Charles. They will be here still in 1920.

 

EMMA R. PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

She is 56 MA Sep 1843 and is a servant to Joseph Stevens.  She will be here in 1910, and listed as Edna 76 MA in 1920. In 1870, she was here married to Julius Putnam, and has been on her own ever since. Julius will be in Swanzey, New Hampshire in 1910 and says he is still married, but I haven’t seen him since 1870.

 

HARRY (HENRY F.) PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 27 MA May 1873 and listed with his wife Bertha May Paine 27 MA May 1873. He is a son of Alfred Putnam and Alice Paine from here. He was born in Ludlow March 7, 1873. His folks and brothers are all in this section of Springfield. They are here in 1910.

 

IRVIN PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 69 VT Nov 1830 and listed with his wife Justina 65 VT May 1835. 

 

MARY B. PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

She is 56 RI Sep 1843 and listed with her sister Elizabeth F. English. She is Mary Belle Flagg the widow of Charles F. Putnam. Charles was a son of Alonzo Franklin Putnam and Hannah Wright. He was born July 23, 1840 in Peacham Vermont. They were married in Barre Vermont November 13, 1860. She was in Amherst in 1880. She will die here September 4, 1905.

 

MERTON J. PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 32 MA Feb 1868 and is listed with his wife Mary A. 27 CND May 1873 and son Ronald F. 2 MA Dec 1897.  He is the son of Francis Putnam (son of Ebenezer 2382) and Mary Parker Lawrence from Easthampton. They are here in 1910 and in Brooklyn, New York in 1920.

 

SELINA PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

Selina C. Plimpton is the widow of George Washington Putnam, who is the son of Levi, who is the son of Levi (598).  She is 75 MA Aug 1846 and is listed with her son Everett 30 VT Jan 1870, and daughter Ellen 21 VT Mar 1879.  She was widowed back in Wardsboro, Windham County, Vermont in 1880. Everett will be married here in 1910 and 1920.

 

ELIZABETH PUTNAM  West Springfield, Hampden County

She is 74 MA Mar 1826 and servant to Nathaniel Knowlton. She was married to James M. Putnam who died in Springfield in 1859. She was widowed there in 1870 and then in 1880 was in Chicago, Illinois with her son Horace.

 

CHARLES V. PUTNAM  Westfield, Hampden County

He is 34 MA May 1866 and living with his wife Jennie L. Sheldon 34 MA (NJ in 1920) Jun 1865. They are here in 1910 and 1920. He is the son of Joseph Melville, son of Jonathan Marcus, son of David, son of Isaac (226).  He was previously married to Mary Eggers who died in 1889.

He is 38 NH May 1862 and listed with his wife Martha F. Robertson 36 MA Nov 1863, daughter Mabel E. 10 NH Sep 1887, daughter Lucy R. 8 MA Jun 1891, and son Arthur H. 7 MA Dec 1892.  He is the son of Augustus Randall, son of Herrick, son of Rufus (1767).

 

ROSWELL PUTNAM  Northampton, Hampshire County

He is the son of Timothy (3126) and is now 60 MA May 1840.  Also there are his wife Anna 57 MA Jan 1843, son Karl 17 MA Apr 1883, and stepson Oscar Field 26 MA Jan 1874.  His first wife Sarah Paulina Scott died in 1884, and Rosewell remarried Anna. Anna is widowed here in 1920.

 

REBECCA E. PUTNAM  Ashland, Middlesex County

She is 52 MA Nov 1847 and listed with her son Leroy A. 20 MA Jan 1880, and daughters Ethel L. 17 MA Sep 1847 and Josie L. 12 MA Jan 1888.  She is Rebecca Nichols, the widow of Alonzo L. Putnam. They were in Grafton, Worcester County in 1880. Leroy was then listed as Ray A. They live with Willis F. Chase. She will be in Upton a few miles away in Worcester County in 1910 working as a housekeeper. By 1920, she will be in Worcester with her son who is once again called Ray.

 

GRACE E. PUTNAM  Bedford, Middlesex County

She is 28 MA Sep 1872 and boarding with Arthur W. Wood.  She is the daughter of Jacob D. Putnam, son of Timothy (1935).

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Cambridge, Middlesex County

He is the son of William Putnam (1668) and Mary Putnam (1768) of Salem. He is now 80 MA Feb 1820 and boarding with Rose C. Frye. 

                                                                                       

ELLIOT T. (THWING) PUTNAM  Cambridge, Middlesex County

He is the son of Henry Ware Putnam (3157) and Florence Thwing of Boston.  He is 21 MA May 1879 and lodging with Simeon B. Whitney.  He will marry Marguerita Sumner on 14 Nov 1903. They are in Hingham in 1910 and in Milton in 1920. He is going to an architect, and is probably here in college maybe at Harvard. His brother George is here too.

 

FREDERICK W. (WARD) PUTNAM  Cambridge, Middlesex County

He is the son of Ebenezer (2228) and is now 61 MA Apr 1839.  Also there are his second wife Esther Orne Clarke 60 IL Sep 1839, daughter Alice E. 34 MA Jun 1865, daughter Alice A. 26 MA Jul 1873, sister-in-law Louise B. Whitefield 50 IL Jul 1849, and niece-in-law Louise C. 25 IL Aug 1874. He was widowed here in 1880. They are here in 1910, and Esther is widowed by 1920.

 

GEORGE T. (THWING) PUTNAM  Cambridge, Middlesex County

He is the son of Henry Ware Putnam (3157) and Florence Thwing from Boston. He is 21 MA May 1879 and lodging with Simeon B. Willey. His mom just died after he was born and in 1880 he was living with his dad’s sister Caroline who helped bring him up. His brother Elliot is here too.

 

GEORGE W. PUTNAM  Cambridge, Middlesex County

He is the son of John Putnam (2603) of Charlestown, New Hampshire, and is 44 NH Feb 1856.  Also there are his wife Emma C. 46 NH Dec 1855 and daughter Ethel I. 15 NH Sep 1884.  Ethel may be a daughter from Emma’s first marriage.  George was previously married to Minnie L. White. Emma will be widowed here in 1910 and 1920.
