Finally, with the 1850 and later census reports, we get all the names, ages, and state of birth for these folks. Again I am listing by County and proximity to each other.
MARY W. PUTNAM
Guilford, Belknap County
Belknap was formed out of both Strafford and Merrimack Counties in 1840. She is Perley's widow, Mary Cole, and her family. They were here in 1830 (Strafford County at that time) and she was widowed in 1840, and she will be here still in 1860. At this point, Mary is 52 NH, Perley 19 NH, Mary E. 15 NH. They live with John (42 NH) and Susan (40 NH) Lane.
He is listed as Nathan, but is actually Asahel Putnam, son of Samuel Putnam and Ruth Spencer a farmer 34 NH, Cynthia 28 NH, Angeline M. 6 NH, Jennisen a son 5 NH and Emma E. 2 NH. He was born in Acworth. He was in Charlestown in 1840 and in Claremont in 1860. He was widowed in 1841, married Valena Cynthia Holmes in 1843 who would be the gal listed as Cynthia. By 1870, he will be on his third wife Thankful (Davis) Frances.
She is 74 MA and has these folks with her. Elizabeth Gleason 46 NH, Mary Gleason 20 NH, Timothy Gleason 13 NH, Sabrina Herrick 28 NH, and Lucinia Higgins 60 NH. She is Mary Converse, now the widow of John Putnam (548) who just died here November 17, 1849. Elizabeth (1374) was married to Dr. Timothy Gleason. I don’t know who the other two are. At any rate, Mary will die here herself September 14, 1853.
He is a shoemaker 46 NY, Mrs. J. L. 24 NY (actually she is Phoebe Towne 44 NY), Josiah 22 NY, Edwin 20 NY, Susan 18 NY, Sylvia 13 VT, Keziah 11 VT, Sophia 4 VT and Lucinda 2 VT. He is John Locke Putnam, a son of Josiah Putnam (1725) and Susan Willard Dickerman from Brattleboro, VT and then a trip into Oneida County New York before first returning to Vermont He was born November 25, 1804 and will die here December 3, 1889. He married Phoebe Towne November 5, 1826 in New York. They just moved here as they are also listed now in Brattleboro, Windham County Vermont. They are here in 1860.
He is 23 NH and lives in a large Boarding House.
JOHN PUTNAM
Jaffrey, Cheshire County
He and his wife Sarah Priest Capron have been here since the 1820s, he longer, and now both have died. I am not sure who was here in 1850, but in 1860 only John (Junior) age 27 and his wife Susan Nash and their new family are here. Lorenzo, now 25, will be in Fitzwilliam.
He runs a livery stable and is 23 MA, His wife Emeline, listed as Mrs. E. L., is 22 NH. Also here is his brother Solon Smith Putnam 21 MA. Edwin is number 2808, a son of Peter Putnam (1247) and his second wife Ruth E. Watson of Sutton, Massachusetts. He was born there November 26, 1826. Solon is number 2809. Edwin will be operating a Hotel in Hinsdale by 1860.
She is 13 MA and lives with Stewart Hastings and his family.
LUCY PUTNAM
Walpole, Cheshire County
She is now 60 NH, her daughter Amanda M. is 30 NH. Jacob's widow, Lucy Brooks, was here in the 1820 with her husband, and shown widowed in 1830, 1840, and will be in 1860 at age 70. Her son Henry will appear then and be married.
AMOS PUTNAM
Winchester, Cheshire County
He is now listing himself as being 70 MA, but is really only 68 now. His wife, Susan Rebecca Wheeler is 66 MA. They have been here since right after 1800 when they were in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. This will be their last appearance though.
AMOS A. PUTNAM
JR. Winchester, Cheshire County
He is actually Amos 3rd, his dad, above, was the second Amos in a row. This Amos was born here in Winchester April 11, 1824. He married Nancy Robbins here on February 14, 1845. Nice Valentine Day present for both of them. Amos is 26 NH, Nancy 26 MA, Mary 3 NH, John 2 NH, and Maria 3/12 NH. Also there is his brother James P. 20 NH and a Sylvia Dickinson 25 MA.
ALBERT PUTNAM
Winchester, Cheshire County
Another of Amos and Susan's children. He was born here May 30, 1821, and married Emeline Smith on November 24, 1846. Albert is now 30 NH, Emeline 28 NH and Alice 1 NH.
ERI PUTNAM
Winchester, Cheshire County
He is a son of Amos also. He was born in Fitchburg, Mass May 27, 1816 according to a bible reference, and in Winchester according to another on May 27, 1812. He lists himself as 38 MA, Lucy Houlton 32 NH, James (James Henry who will die in 1857) 2 NH and Ressie R. (Persis Rebecca) 4/12 NH. The Fitchburg birthplace is correct. Amos (the original one) was in Hopkinton, Hillsborough County through 1800 and here in Winchester from 1820 on. He went back to Massachusetts around 1808 and was there a few years before returning to New Hampshire. Eri married Lucy Parker Holton November 25, 1846.
He is a laborer 25 MA, his wife, simply listed as Mrs., is 24 NH. They seem to be living with David Trask 30 NH and his family. Also in that family is Lydia Prentiss 66 NH.
She is 17 NH, and lives with John Wheelock and his family. She is the daughter of David Putnam and Abigail Cutting from Haverhill, Grafton County. She was born there on June 12, 1833.
ALBERT PUTNAM
Bartlett, Coos County
He is 10 NH living with Horace (26 NH) and Harriet (21 NH) Goodridge. Bartlett is way over in the eastern middle part of the state, near North Conway, closer to Grafton County than other parts of Coos. John Adams (Jr.) of Enfield in Grafton County had a son Albert born in 1840. Might be him.
She is 15 NH, and lives with David (63 NH) and Mary H. (63NH) Perkins. She would be a daughter of George Putnam and Elizabeth Perkins who were here in Jefferson in 1840. The rest of her family is now out in Lee County, Illinois, and they will later move to Iowa in the 1860s.
CALEB S. (SIDNEY) PUTNAM Canaan, Grafton County
He and his wife were here in 1840 and will be in 1860. He is now 49 NH, Elvira Wheelock 48 VT, Persis B. 16 NH, Hiram E. 14 NH, Martha J. 12 NH, Florence W. 8 NH and Harriett I. 4 NH. Also here are their daughter Elvira W. Wells 23 NH and her husband Charles H. Wells 28 NH.
JOHN ADAMS PUTNAM JR. Enfield, Grafton
County
He was in Enfield in 1840, Lebanon in 1860. He is a peddler, 38 NH, Nancy Hussey his wife is 37 NH, Wallace (John Wallace) 17 NH, Albert 10 NH, Ellen 8 NH, Oscar 6 NH and Charles (Charles Henry) 3 NH. He is a son of John Sr. and Sarah Heath. He was born in Hanover on November 11, 1811. He married Nancy Currier Hussey in Hanover in 1831. In 1860 they will be in Lebanon, Grafton County.
DANIEL PUTNAM
Hanover, Grafton County
He is 26 NH and a student at Dartmouth College. He is Daniel Pratt Putnam, son of Aaron K. Putnam of Wilton. He will become a physician, marry Emily Peavey, and then move to Cleveland, Ohio in the 1860s and be there through the 1900 census.
He is 27 MA, and a professor of Greek at Dartmouth College. He is number 2931, a son of Simeon Putnam (1336) and Abigail Brigham Fay of Andover, Massachusetts. John will be married here in 1860. As a further little tid bit, his brother Samuel Fay Putnam (2932) is currently in Virginia studying to be an Episcopal minister. He will come up here to Hanover and die here in 1860.
ALONZO W. PUTNAM
Haverhill, Grafton County
He lives next door to his folks. He is 23 NH, Hannah Cole 18 NH. There is a Simon Cutting 10 NH with them, a cousin on his mom's side. Alonzo is number 2754 and was born in Hanover, Grafton County on January 2, 1828. He married Hannah Cole here on January 1, 1850.
DAVID PUTNAM
Haverhill, Grafton County
He is 58 NH a farmer, Abigail Cutting 58 MA and Triphena 19 NH. They have been here since the 1820s, and were originally from Croydon, Cheshire County.
ELIJAH PUTNAM
(JR.) Amherst, Hillsborough
County
He lives next to his folks. Elijah is 46 MA, Catherine Perkins 46 NH, Caroline 22 NH, Helen M. 17 NH, and Erastus 12 NH. Elijah was born in Bedford, Massachusetts February 16, 1804. He married Catherine K. Perkins here in Amherst on May 4, 1826. He will be here until his death November 24, 1888.
ELIJAH PUTNAM
(SR.) Amherst, Hillsborough
County
He is a son of the Jonathan Putnam who was here in Rindge, New Hampshire in 1790 and then moved to Windsor, Vermont. That Jonathan was from Bedford, Massachusetts. When his folks went to Vermont, Elijah went back to Bedford and lived with his uncle Stephen Lane. Elijah was born in Rindge January 5, 1780, and will die here in Amherst on October 18, 1855. He first married Lucy Webber in Bedford on April 28, 1803. She died in the mid 1830s, and he then married Hannah Lane on September 27, 1838. He returned to New Hampshire and was here in Amherst in the 1820 census. He is now listed 70 NH, Hannah 61 MA.
He is 87 NH and has Permelia Brown 60 NH. He is Joseph Junior number 1870, a son of Joseph Putnam (766) and Miriam Hamblett of Wilton. Permelia is his daughter who married Hugh Brown. I haven’t seen him since the 1830, probably living with his daughter or some other kinfolk. He will be here in a ‘poor house’ in 1860 at age 96. He will die here in Amherst February 6, 1861.
LUKE PUTNAM
Amherst, Hillsborough County
He is 38 NH, Rebecca J. 38 NH, Henry A. 13 NH. He is a son of Gideon Putnam and Sarah Barnes. He was born in West Nottingham, New Hampshire on May 28, 1812. He married Rebecca Jane Hale in Hollis, New Hampshire on February 26, 1835. He'll be in Worcester County, Massachusetts in 1860 and 1870.
WARREN PUTNAM
Antrim, Hillsborough County
He is 14 NH living with a Maynard family. He is Warren Prescott Putnam, a son of Sewell and Hannah Putnam from Wilton.
FRANCES & GEORGE PUTNAM Bennington, Hillsborough County
She is 16 NH, George A. 4 NH. They live with their mother Belinda 41 NH and their new stepfather Joseph Beckwith. There are also a couple of younger Beckwith kids from this new marriage. Belinda Brown was married to David Johnson Putnam, son of Daniel Putnam (1930) and Hannah Johnson from Lyndeborough, who has died in the last couple of years. She has remarried. Her other son, Perley, is in Mount Vernon, Hillsborough County.
GEORGE PUTNAM
Goffstown, Hillsborough County
He is 13 NH and living with a Blaisdell family. He is a son of John and Achsah Putnam from Fishersfield. He will be with his folks in Dunbarton, NH in 1860, and will be back here with his widowed mom in 1870.
He is listed as 86 RI and a pauper living in a County alms house. No ideas at all.
She is 12 NH, and living with William and Harriet Dewers or something like that. The adults are from VT and CT and there is a kid there from Canada. Might be some sort of orphanage thing.
DAVID PUTNAM
Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County
This David is number 1937, a son of David Putnam (789) and Abigail Carlton. He was born in Lyndeborough June 19, 1790. He is listed 60 NH, Abigail Foster, his third wife, 51 NH, and young David 12 NH. Abigail will die shortly, and in 1860 he will be married to Nancy Jewitt.
ELEAZER PUTNAM
Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County
He is 48 NH, a millwright, Mary Adeline Marshall 46 NH and Adeline E. 17 NH. He is a son of Ephraim Putnam 3rd (1929) and Elizabeth Carkin.
EPHRAIM PUTNAM
Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County
He is number 1913, a son of Ephraim Putnam (776) and Rachel Cram. He was born here April 30, 1785. He married Esther Pearson of Lyndeborough in about 1830. He is 65 NH, Esther 58 NH, Willard P. 28 NH and Amy S. 27 NH.
EPHRAIM H. (HILDRETH) PUTNAM Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County
He is a son of Jonathan Putnam (1908) and Mary Hildreth. He was born here in Lyndeborough July 1, 1805. He married Susanna Ford here in 1831. Ephraim is 45 NH, Susan 44 MA, Andrew Jackson 18 NH, Saphronia 16 NH, Mary E. 13 NH, Twins Burton and Byron 10 NH, and Levi 9 NH.
GEORGE A. & AUGUSTA PUTNAM Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County
He is 11 MA, Augusta 8 NY. They are with Jonathan Hildrith Jr. and his wife Julia (27 NH). George Alvin is a son of Israel Putnam and Mary Hawk. He was born in Andover, Massachusetts August 1, 1838. These two, and some others back in Massachusetts are orphans, and have been taken in by relatives (Israel's second wife, these kids stepmother, was Abigail Hildreth). They were orphaned October 23, 1847. After running away from this home in the 1850s, George went to Colorado, fought in the Civil War and then will return here, and head to Maine in the early 1870s. He will then be back in Andover, Massachusetts in the late 1880s.
HANNAH PUTNAM
Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County
She is Hannah Johnson, widow of Daniel Putnam (1930) who died here in Lyndeborough in 1841. She is 70 NH and lives with her daughter Betsy P. Gage 50 NH (born January 24, 1800).
ISRAEL PUTNAM Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County
He is a son of Daniel Putnam (1930) and Hannah Johnson. Israel was born here October 30, 1794. He married Abigail C. Abbott, his current wife, on May 17, 1846. He had first married Ruth Sargent about 1815, but she must have died in the early to mid 1840s, as he had a wife in the 1840 census, and now has Abigail. Israel is 56 NH, Abigail 36 NH, Hannah 19 NH, Sumner S. 16 NH, Abby 2 NH and Ruth 5/12. The last two gals are with Abigail, and they have been named for Izzy's two wives.
He is 55 NH, and lives by himself. This is the first time he has shown up by himself. He is a son of Jonathan Putnam 1908 and Mary Hildreth. He was born here in 1804 and has been living with his folks ever since. He never married, and now both his folks have died since the 1840, and he has simply taken over the old farm house. I don’t find him again, so I assume he dies here in the next decade.
JOSEPH PUTNAM
Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County
He is a son of Aaron and Phebe, and was born here. He has been here since the 1820 census. He is now 60 NH, Sarah (Shattuck) 60 NH, Willard 20 NH, Ephraim 14 NH, Henry 14 NH and Levi 1, NH. Levi is a son of Joseph junior and Mary Jamison. They were married here in 1846 and she died in 1849. Joseph will be in Wabash County, Indiana in 1860 (Levi will be there then too) and he will have married the widow of his brother George who is in Indiana right now. Interesting.
WILLARD PUTNAM
Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County
He is 20 NH and with John and Emily Stevenson. He is also shown at home with his folks, Joseph and Sarah Putnam.
AUGUSTA PUTNAM
Manchester, Hillsborough County
She is 16 NH and lives in a boarding house, and works in a cotton mill. She'll be here doing the same thing in 1860. She is a daughter of John Adams Putnam and Nancy Hussey from Enfield, Grafton County. Her folks are in Lebanon, Grafton County in 1860 and she is also listed there then as well.
HORACE B. PUTNAM
Manchester, Hillsborough County
He is 27 NH, Marianna A. Woodward 24 NH. Horace is a son of Perley Putnam and Mary Cole. He was born in Franconia, Grafton County February 11, 1823. He married Marianna Annette Woodward September 13, 1845. She was born May 23, 1826 and will die in September 1860. They will be in Northfield, Washington County, Vermont in 1860. They will remain in Vermont.
He is a blacksmith, 28 CAN, his wife Charlotte is 24 CAN. They live with Lewis Bushford 25 CAN.
He is 30 NH and unemployed. He lives with Harvey and Mary Jane Dennison. He is a son of John Putnam and Betsy Saltmarsh of Hookset. He will marry Permelia D. Parker in 1851, and move to Boston. They will be there in 1860 through 1880.
He is a machinist 27 NH, Lydia J. 21 NH. Also here is Lucy A. Bryant 18 NH. He is William Henry Putnam. He is part of the 'other' New England family. His folks were William Putnam and Susan Briggs. He was born in Sharon, Mass. November 5, 1823. I found a record that he married Lydia J. Bryant in Uxbridge, Massachusetts February 14, 1847. Pretty sure I am right, and in 1860 they will be in nearby Hookset, New Hampshire. Lucy would be Lydia’s sister.
He is 24 NH, a machinist, Emeline is 28 VT and they have Mary E. 1 VT. They live with Daniel (30 NH) and Sophia (26 VT) Smith. I would guess Sophia and Emeline are sisters.
ADELINE PUTNAM
Mason, Hillsborough County
She is 18 NH and boarding with a Chamberlain family. Probably the same family the next listed Elizabeth will be marrying into. She is a daughter of Cyrus Putnam and Lucinda Tarble who were here in 1840. Adeline is also listed at home with her now widowed mother Lucinda here in Mason. Cyrus was a son of Stephen Putnam and Sarah Burton of Wilton and then Mason, NH.
ELIZABETH PUTNAM
Mason, Hillsborough County
She is 50 NH living with her brothers Albert (21) and Nehemia (48) Hill. She is Elizabeth Hill, widow of Sylvester Putnam (number 2023). They were married here May 1, 1842. Sylvester died here July 25, 1846. There were not any children. Elizabeth will soon marry a Chamberlain guy and live here until she dies in 1888.
EZEKIEL PUTNAM
Mason, Hillsborough County
He is 24 NH in manufacturing, Luthina (Lucinia with a lisp?) 23 NH, and Julius or somesuch name Rolling 2/12 NH. They live with Albert and Lucy Wilson. I would guess he is one of Cyrus and Lucinda’s kids.
Lucinda Tarble is the widow of Cyrus Putnam. They were here in 1840. She is 49 NH, William T. (Tarble) a shoemaker is 21 NH, Martha 20 NH, Adaline 18 NH, Cyrus 16 NH, Nancy L. 14 NH, John F. 11 NH, Abby J. 9 NH and Mary E. 7 NH. There is a Tarble family a couple of doors away. Rhoda Tarble 83 MA is probably her mom. Lucinda will be here through the 1870.
AMOS PUTNAM
Milford, Hillsborough County
He is 44 NH, Rebecca (Hill) 26 NH, Harriet 7 NH and Emmett (actually Everett) 1 NH. He is a carpenter. He is a son of Nathan Putnam Jr. (2199) and Lucy Blanchard. He was born here August 15, 1806. He married Deborah Rebecca Hill on December 15, 1841. She will be here widowed with the kids in 1860. He will die October 23, 1859. He is named for his grandfather on his mother's side, Dr. Amos Putnam of Danvers, Massachusetts.
DANIEL PUTNAM
Milford, Hillsborough County
He too is a carpenter. Daniel is 45 NH, Elizabeth Hale 42 MA, Mary E. 17 MA, Ann 16 MA, Susan Jane 13 NH, and Sarah H. 11 NH. Daniel is another son of Nathan Putnam. He was born here as well and was here in 1840, but in the 1830s went to Massachusetts, married and had a couple of children.
HERVEY (HARVEY) PUTNAM
Milford, Hillsborough County
Another carpenter. He is listed 29 NH, Lavinia Hall 27 NH, Louisa M. 6 NH and William K. 4 NH. He is number 2037, another son of Aaron Kimball Putnam. He was born in Wilton September 21, 1820. He married Lavinia Hall on May 11, 1843 here in Milford I think, but it might have been back in Wilton.
JANE PUTNAM
Milford, Hillsborough County
She is 34 NH and living with a Herrick family. She might be a daughter of John Putnam (1884) and Mary Herrick of Wilton. I'd guess they were kin of sorts
LEVI PUTNAM
Milford, Hillsborough County
He is 31 NH, a cabinet maker, Harriet E. 27 NH and Eliza E. 3 NH. There are two boarders as well. He is a son of Aaron K. Putnam and Polly Shattuck. He was born in Wilton, New Hampshire on December 4, 1818. He moved here with his brother Hervey or Harvey. He married Harriet E. Stephens on June 5, 1845. They are both here in 1860. By 1900 he will still be here and with a new wife at that time.
He is 15 NH a farmer and lives with Percy and Eliza Foster. He looks to be Isaiah Porter Putnam a son of Thomas Cowdin Putnam and Sarah Colby. He is also listed at home with them in Nashua, Hillsborough County at the same age of 15 NH.
He is 11 NH. He lives with Anthony and Abigail Raymond and their family. He is Perley Johnson Putnam, son of David Johnson Putnam and Belinda Brown. His dad died recently, and his mother has remarried to Joseph Beckwith and is now in Bennington, Hillsborough County with his brother and sister.
BARNES B. (BIGELOW) PUTNAM Nashua, Hillsborough County
He is 24 NH (yes, yet another carpenter), Lucy Ann M. 21 NH and James W. 10/12 NH. He is a son of Gideon Putnam Jr. and Sarah Rice of Nashua. Barnes was born October 1, 1825 in Dunstable or Nottingham, and married Lucy Ann Bills here in Nashua on May 15, 1849, barely in the nick of time before James was born in August 1849.
EPHRAIM T. (TOWNES) PUTNAM Nashua, Hillsborough County
He is a peddler, 47 NH, Mary Austin Shaw, his wife, is 45 NY, Mary 18 MA, Ephraim Townes Jr. 12 NH, Sarah 9 NH, George 5 NH, Levi 3 NH and Susan 1/12 NH. Ephraim is number 1949. He was born in Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County January 13, 1803. He is a son of Aaron Putnam (791) and his second wife, Phebe Farnham. He married Mary in New York City December 9, 1823. They were in Lowell, Middlesex County, Mass. in the 1830 census and here in 1840.
He is a stone mason, 49 NH, Sarah Rice 45 MA, Mary E. 22 MA, George G. (Gideon) 20 MA, Sarah M. 11 MA, Caroline P. 14 MA, Charles E. 11 NH, Clara M. 6 NH and William S. 3 NH. Also there is Sarah’s mother Nancy Rice 75 MA. He was born in Hancock, Hillsborough County on January 20, 1801. He married Sarah Rice in Hancock on June 9, 1822. They were here in 1840, and in East Sudbury, Massachusetts in the 1830. They’ll be here till 1854, and then go to Benton County, Iowa and remain there till they both die in 1878.
He is now a farmer 79 NH, Sarah Barnes his wife is 69 NH. Also here is Eliza J. Jewell 19 NH. Eliza Jane is a granddaughter. Her mother Sally was Gideon’s daughter, she married James M. Jewell. Gideon is number 1877, a son of Joseph Putnam and Miriam Hamblett of Wilton. He took over the family farm in Society Land (Bennington) when his folks moved to Vermont. He was born in Temple May 26, 1777, and he married Sarah Barnes in Litchfield, Hillsborough County on September 19, 1798.
HARRIET A. PUTNAM
Nashua, Hillsborough County
She is 13 NH, and living with a Buswell Family.
She is 25 NH and lives with Edward and Lucy A. Golding. Matilda Rockwood Putnam is a daughter of Aaron Kimball Putnam and Polly Shattuck.
She is 27 NH, and boarding.
He is a wood turner, 41 MA, Sarah Colby his wife 49 NH, Sarah C. 17 NH, Isaiah P. (Porter) 15 NH, Catherine W. 7 NH. He is a son of Isaiah Putnam (1751) and Hannah Cowdin from Fitchburg, Massachusetts. They were here in 1840.
He is 42 NH, Mary Dustin 39 NH, Samuel 3 NH and Henry 1 NH. They were here in 1840. Still not sure who he is. Mary and the son Henry will be here in 1860 without Sam. Then in 1870 Sam will be here, but no one else will.
CHARLES F. PUTNAM
Pelham, Hillsborough County
He is 14 VT and living with a Hoges family
CATHERINE PUTNAM
Peterborough, Hillsborough County
She is 70 MA and lives alone. She is number 645, a daughter of Jesse Putnam (240) and Susanna Thatcher of Boston. She never married and settled in Peterborough, and donated a public park here. She will die in 1862.
ELBRIDGE GERRY PUTNAM
Weare, Hillsborough County
He is 39 NH, Hannah 36 NH, Edgar George 9 NH. Also there are Philip (76 NH) and Susan (76 NH) Reilly. He married Hannah Edmunds in NH on December 7, 1837. He was here in Weare in 1840. The Reillys are his folks. Either Susan had been married to a Putnam first, or they adopted him. Not sure how he fits in. They are here in 1860 through 1880.
AARON K. PUTNAM

He married Nancy about 1844, and Mary is the only daughter in the second marriage. Aaron is a carpenter and farmer, and will be here until he dies in 1871. His sons Harvey and Levi (also carpenters) are in Milford, New Hampshire now, Daniel has moved to Pennsylvania I believe, Rufus will still be at home in 1860.

She is Abigail Holt and she married John Putnam in Wilton on September 12, 1834. They were together here in 1840. John is a son of John Putnam and Mary Herrick of Wilton. Looks like he deserted her for a while, but will be back (See 1860). In 1870, Abigail will be alone again.

Even though Amos lives next door to Sewell, he is not a brother. He's a cousin. He was born in Andover, Windsor County, Vermont April 14, 1804. He is a son of Jacob Putnam (1882) and Mary Burton. Jacob was originally from here in Wilton. Anyway, Amos is 42 (should be 46) VT and is a tanner and furrier (born in Andover April 15, 1808). His wife is a Putnam as well. She is Dorcas Putnam born here in Wilton September 5, 1809, a daughter of Eliphalet Putnam and Dorcas Abbott. She is 40 NH, the kids are Samuel 11 NH, William 9 NH, Emma 7 NH, George 5 NH and Mary 3 NH. The line goes back Amos > Jacob (1882) > Jacob (768) > Nathaniel > Benjamin > Nathaniel > John Putnam.

He is 16 NH and working on the farm of Moses and Lucy Lovejoy. He’ll be here working on another farm in 1860. He is a son of Cyrus Putnam and Lucinda Tarble. He was born April 28, 1834 in Wilton.
He is 11 NH, and lives with John and Maria Hartson. The above Jerome will be working on this farm in 1860. John Earl Putnam is also a son of Cyrus and Lucinda, he was born February 10, 1840.
He is 27 NH, Louisa Elvira Cram 24 NH. John is a son of Philip Putnam and Mary Allen, and was born in Wilton on November 4, 1823. He married Louise in Wilton July 13, 1850. He'll be in Lyndeborough in 1860, and be there till he dies in 1888.
He is a carpenter 31 NH, Lavinia Lane his second wife 30 NH, Ella 2 NH and Clara 1 NH. Also here is Augustus Parkhurst 23 NH another carpenter. He is a son of Joseph Putnam and Lucy Rumrill from Milford. Lavinia will die here in 1854, and in 1860 Peter’s off somewhere and the kids are with his folks in Milford. He will remarry in the 1860s and be back here in Wilton by 1870.
He is 13 MA and lives with Oliver 55 NH and Sarah 55 NH Barrett and their family. He may be a son of John Putnam and Sabrina Wiley of Lowell, Mass and Amherst, Hillsborough County before that. Sarah is Sally Putnam, a daughter of Joseph Putnam and Rebecca Burton, and a sister to Robert’s dad John Putnam.

She is 20 ME and lives with a clergyman, Thompson Barron and his family. She is also listed with her father Nehemiah Putnam.
He is a carpenter 53 ME, Hannah 47 NH, Maria F. 19 ME, and M. Eliza 14 ME. Also here are his daughter Alma J. 22 ME, her husband Albert H. Fellows 27 VT and their son Weston P. 1 NH. He is a son of Stephen Putnam Junior (number 1853) and Sarah Elliott. He was born in Rumford, Oxford County, Maine on February 28, 1798. If you remember back to the 1790 census, you will see that Stephen (jr.) and his folks were here in Temple, Hillsborough County before heading off to Maine. He married Hannah Whitten. There are two marriage records. One that they were married December 30, 1826 in Rumford, and one that they were married here in Concord February 6, 1827. They are here in 1860, and Hannah is widowed here in 1870.
He is a Congregational Clergyman 57 MA, Arathusa 58 MA, Antonette 21 NH, George A. 15 NH, Jane 12 IRELAND, and Henry M. 19 NH. They were in Epsom, NH, in 1840 and will be in Dunbarton in 1860. He’s number 1330, a son of Reuben Putnam (537) and Elizabeth Mason of Sutton, Massachusetts. John was born in Sutton February 26, 1794. He graduated from Brown University in Providence and studied Mennonite religion in Medford, Massachusetts. He was ordained in 1820. He moved to Concord, published a religious newspaper. In 1827, he was given a church in Epsom. He then took a church in Dunbarton, New Hampshire, where he will remain till 1861. They moved briefly to Yarmouth, Maine. He’ll finally retire and move to Elyria, Ohio where he will die August 7, 1871. He married Arathusa Brigham of Westborough, Massachusetts on January 21, 1821. She’ll die in Yarmouth, Maine in 1861.
He too is a Congregational Preacher. He is 52 NH, Frances Highborn Porter his wife 51 NH, Caroline 13 NH, Frances 10 NH. Rufus Austin is Reuben and Polly's son, and has been preaching here for years. They will be in Pembroke in 1860.

James is a son of Joseph Putnam (1870) and Rebecca Burton. He was born in Wilton, or possibly Society Land, on June 19, 1797. He married Elizabeth Saltmarsh on June 1, 1819 in Amherst, New Hampshire. He is a farmer, his son James is a brick maker.
WILLARD A. PUTNAM

He is 22 MA, Sarah 24 MA. He was born November 5, 1827 in Sharon, Massachusetts. He married Sarah Stearns here in Hookset on January 1, 1847. The next family, William's, listed is his, they live next door. He’s going to head out to Minnesota and be there in the 1850s. I never find him there, but he’s back here in 1880 with a daughter that was born there in 1857

He is 54 CT, his wife Susan Briggs 52 MA (listed 32 but it is 52), Lucinda 10 MA, Mary J. 8 MA. This is the one New England family not related to John Putnam of Salem. William's daddy, Thomas Putnam, came over from Yorkshire to Hartford Connecticut in the late 1700s. William was born in the Hartford area on March 8, 1796. He married Susan Briggs February 12, 1822 in Massachusetts, and settled in Sharon, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He moved up here in the last couple of years, and will be here until he dies September 12, 1859. Susan and the girls will be here in the 1860 census.
She is 16 NH and lives with Holland and Margaret Laerance or something like that. She is a daughter of Martin Putnam and Margaret Butler. They were here in 1840, Martin died in 1845, and looks as if Margaret has remarried to Holland. Margaret, now age 36 NH will die herself in June 1851.
He is a trader, 47 NH, Rachel Keyser 46 NH, and Augustus R. 15 NH. Herrick is a son of Rufus and Polly Putnam. He was born here September 11, 1803. He married Rachel Keyser on September 27, 1827. He’ll be here in 1860 too.
He is 10 NH, and lives with Moses and Hannah Gould and their family. Everyone was born in NH. He is another child of Martin Putnam and Margaret Butler from here.
He is 14 NH and lives with Rufus and Melissa Copps also from New Hampshire. He is a son of Martin Putnam and Margaret Butler. He was born here February 9, 1836. He will marry Sarah Clark Davis here in March of 1861. In 1860, he will working on her parent’s farm. I guess working on their farm had its benefits to Jim. They will be here in 1870, and eventually move to Andover, Massachusetts.

He is 76 MA, Polly Felton 68 MA, Triphena 40 NH. Also here is the family of Rufus Jr. Then there is a Clough family, Hosea 45 NH and Mary 43 NH, and after that family is listed an Eliza J. Putnam 8 NH. Mary is Rufus' daughter, no idea who Eliza is though. They have been here a while. He is number 1767, a son of James Philips Putnam (730) of Danvers.
RUFUS PUTNAM
JR. Hopkinton, Merrimack County
He lives with his folks, but I am giving him his own listing. He is 37 NH, Helen 8 NH, Joseph 7 NH, William 5 NH. Rufus junior was born here in Hopkinton on September 27, 1813. He married Harriet Emily Bailey here on April 30, 1839. She must have died or something. In 1840 they had their own listing, but no kids at that time. Rufus will be widowed here in 1860, but will then marry Lydia Goss in December 1860 and they will be here in the 1870.
He is 20 NH, a student at Pembroke Academy, and boarding with a lot of other students on the farm of Theodore Phelps. He is a son of Timothy Putnam and Rachel Dascomb of Lyndeborough. He will soon marry Eliza Clough in 1853. They will be in Lowell, Mass. through the 1880 census.

He is 60 NH, Sally Tenney 57 NH, Addison 16 NH. Then there is Isaac T. Putnam 29 NH and his wife Susan 27 NH. Ben has been here since the 1820s, son of Aaron and Phebe. He married Sarah Tenney in Hillsborough County in 1819. Isaac Tenney Putnam was born here January 20, 1821. He will die in 1860 in Sacramento, California.
MELCHER PUTNAM
Epping, Rockingham County
He is 12 NH and lives with the Henry and Abby Phelps family. Abby Phelps is 21 NH is his sister Abigail who was actually born in Saco, Maine. He is a son of Benjamin Franklin Putnam and Nancy Melcher of Portsmouth, Rockingham County. His folks were married there May 14, 1824. According to Eben, Ben was here for a while, then into southern Maine and died in Boston in 1845. Benjamin and Nancy had a son named Nathaniel Melcher Putnam, who is this guy. He was born in Hampton, New Hampshire April 28, 1841. This line goes back Nathaniel Melcher > Benjamin > Caleb (1904) > Archelaus (774) > Archelaus (286) > Nathaniel > Benjamin > Nathaniel > John. Archelaus (774) was in Wilton, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire until he died in 1800. Caleb spent the last part of his life in Newburyport, Massachusetts from about 1805 till he died there in 1826.

He is 63 MA, Mary (Chase) 60 MA, Susan E. 30 NH. Been here since before the 1820, and will die here in 1858, Mary will be here still in 1860, living with her son Henry. See 1820 for info on this guy.
Nancy Melcher is the widow now of Benjamin Franklin Putnam who died in 1845. She is now 51 NH, Hannah 18 NH, Mary E. 17 ME, Ann E. 14 ME, Benjamin F. 12 NH. Also here is her sister Hannah Melcher 54 NH. She will soon return to Boston with her kids and her daughter Abby Phelps and her husband Henry listed earlier in Epping. Nancy will die there July 6, 1856. The daughter Mary will marry Charles E. Dame in Boston in 1855. The son Benjamin will die there September 26, 1858. Henry Phelps will die in 1857. The rest of the family is in Boston in 1860.

Ephraim is number 1145, a son of Abijah Putnam (456) and Susannah Durrant of Charlestown. He was born October 10, 1794, and married Prudence Graves here on September 2, 1816.

He is number 1117, a son of Levi Putnam (445) and Rebecca Holden. Levi was born here in Charlestown, as was Hiram. Hiram was born in 1798. He married Emily Griswold on February 1, 1824. Hiram is 51 VT (should be NH as far as I know), Emily 48 CT, Horace 23 NH, Sarah Jane 21 NH, Levi 19 NH, Elmira or Almira 16 NH, Hiram Jr. 12 NH. A roomer, John Towne 24 NH lives there also. He will be here till he dies March 28, 1858 and Emily till October 14, 1854.

She is 52 NH. With her are her son Edward 28 NH and his wife Louisa 31 VT, George M. 22 NH, William F. 19 NH and Elizabeth 17 NH. Edward is a stagecoach operator, William a stage driver. She is Nancy Melville, wife of Elisha D. Putnam (number 1150). I have no idea where Elisha is now, as he won't die until 1864. Nancy will still be here in 1860 living with her cousin, Orrin Putnam, and still no Elisha. They must have gotten a divorce. Her son Edward was born March 9, 1822 and married Lois or Louisa Swain of Woodstock, Vermont on one of his stage runs I would guess. George Melville was born October 29, 1827, William Francis was born October 31, 1830 and Elizabeth Ann was born March 19, 1833.

He is 50 NH, Julia Leland 49 CT, Charlotte 32 NH and Franklin H. 17 NH. In 1840 he was married to Nancy Grinnell. She died in 1848, and he married again nine months later. Presently he is married to Julia Leland (or Cheney) and will be in 1860. He is number 1148, a son of Elisha Putnam (458) and Lydia Durant. He was born here August 23, 1793 and will be here until he dies in 1867.

His folks were from here originally, and the family came back here to Charlestown in the 1840s. Sam died here in 1848 and Ruth in 1855. He married a cousin, Sarah Putnam (#2581), a daughter of Abraham Putnam (1158) here in April 1842. They are here in 1860.

Silas Sr. (number 1695) was a son of Daniel Putnam (705) and Keziah Pollard of Ashburnham, Massachusetts. Silas, Junior, is a shoe maker. He married Lucy in Cavendish October 1, 1844.

He was here in 1840, he is now 47 MA and Maria Brown his wife is 43 MA, Ellen R. 18 NH, Maria A. 17 NH. Also there is John Marsh 20 NH and his wife Fanny A. 18 NH. He is most likely the same guy who was in Winchester in the 1830 census. I’m guessing that he is number 1813, a son of Daniel Putnam (750) and Mary Putnam, a cousin, of New Salem, Massachusetts. If so, he was born there in 1803. He married Mary E. Reed in Royalston, Massachusetts April 21, 1831. Then I think he is the one that appears in Claremont, Sullivan County in 1840. Mary died June 24, 1834. Then on October 8, 1835, he married Maria S. Brown, who is with him through the 1860 census. He may have married again in 1866 to Hannah Essick or Enick. Hannah was originally a Putnam, number 1824, a daughter of Joseph Putnam (752) and Hannah Kellogg also of New Salem.

The folks living here in Cornish either got passed by, or the local census got destroyed. There are no Putnams listed here, but the following guy was here in 1840 and in 1860, so he simply had to be in 1850 as well. He's number 1512, son of Samuel Putnam (626). He would be about 58 NH now, Adeline Summers 39, Haldeman 13, Isabel 12, and Lucy Ann 2. In 1860, his unmarried sister Sarah Maria was with him. If she is here now, she would be 47 NH.

He is number 2759, a son of Solomon (1228) Putnam and Rebecca Prescott. He was born here in Croydon November 17, 1813. He is 36 NH, Esther Hilliard, his wife, 27 NH. Also there is his father Solomon Putnam 72 MA. Solomon was born in Sutton, Massachusetts September 20, 1779. He married Esther October 18, 1849.

They had an older son James Wellington Putnam about 28 now, who is preaching in Massachusetts. He is number 1235, a son of David Putnam (491) and Phebe Woodbury. He was born here November 11, 1797. He married Almira French here on April 19, 1821.
He is 25 NH, Mary M. Carroll 20 NH, Emeline E. 1 NH and her mother Elizabeth Carroll 49 NH. He is number 2791, a son of Hiram Putnam (1244) and Rachel Chapman. Marshall married Matilda M. Carroll here on January 16, 1848. His folks are in Massachusetts right now, and his mother will die there soon. His dad, Hiram, will move back here to Croydon and meet and marry Elizabeth. Kinda keep it all in the family I guess. They are all here in 1860.

He was born here August 16, 1795. He married Martha Winter of Grantham on June 3, 1817. He will be here until he dies December 17, 1881.
He is 34 NH, Malinda 34 NH, Lucinda (?) 16 NH and Ellen 9 NH. He is William Gibson Putnam (2779) son of Sanuel Putnam (1242) and Sukey Gibson. He was born here in Croydon, but went to Vermont with his folks. William and Malinda were here in Croydon in 1840. They will be back in Williamstown, Orange County, Vermont for the 1860 and 1870 census. In 1870, there is a woman, Polly Goldthwait, from New Hampshire who Malinda’s mother, now the widow of Alvin Goldthwait.
