She is 50 NY living with a Lee family from Canada. She was boarding here in 1860 as well. She was a nurse then, probably still is.
He is number 1403, a son of David and Jennette Putnam. He is still running a butcher shop, and is 69 NY, Nancy Sickles, his wife, 53 NY, Mary Ann 26 NY, Theodore B. 25 NY, James A. Junior 23 NY, Stephen 20 NY and David 14 NY. Also still here is Mary Morgan 70 NY. Still can’t figure her out, see the listing back in 1860. Anyway James will die here shortly on December 2, 1874. The kids will be around, but few if any ever married.
He is a tailor, 60 NY, his son Peter 30 NY, Abby 28 NY, Clara 32 NY and Anna (Gertrude in 1860) 17 NY. Now, they were here in 1860. Then Abby (then age 44) was his wife. I think this listing is screwed up, and Abby is still his wife at age 58 NY probably. Been here since the 1830s, and still no clue as to who he is.
She is 40 IRE, Catherine 16 NY. They live with a Gaffney family from Ireland who are probably her folks. Don’t spot these folks in the 1860.
She is 13 NY and lives with an Elmendorf family.

A very light, hard to read page. She is 25 NY, has a daughter 3 NY, a daughter (Jennie in 1880) 1 NY and a son 1/12 NY. She and Jennie will be here in 1880.
He is 76 VT (should be NH), and his daughter Amanda 44 NY. They live with a Parker family. The wife Josephine 40 NY is probably another daughter. According to Eben’s notes, he had three daughters. One was named Sophronia who married Abraham Martin Parker. Archelaus has been here in the County since the 1830s. Missed out on the 1860 listing though.
Been here all his life, Dutch folks. He is now 31 NY a tin peddler, Eliza Jane Glover, his wife, 28 NY, John E. (Elson) 10 NY, Harriet 8 NY, Frank L. (Lowell) 2 NY. Her mother Cornelia Glover 70 NY is still living with them, probably will till she dies. His dad John is here in town, as are his brothers. They are all listed next.
NATHANIEL PUTMAN Wirt, Allegany County
He is Nathaniel Woods Putman 33 NY and works on his dad’s farm, Mary Louise Babcock, his wife, 22 NY and they have William T. 3 NY. Nate will die here July 10, 1874. Mary will then marry A. S. Allen and be here in 1880.
He is 58 NY and is alone since Hannah Cornwell his wife died in 1863. He though will be here until 1891 when he chucks it in.
Orson Freeman is a son of Martin Gilmore Putnam and Clarissa Parsons. He was born here, and is now 28 NY and operating a hotel, Amelia Throop, his wife, 23 NY and Hubert (Herbert) 3 NY. They will be in Merrick County, Nebraska by the 1880 census.
David Henry is another of Martin’s sons. He is a farmer 24 NY and his wife Jane Penney is but 16 NY.
He is a son of Seth Putnam and his first wife Jane Hall. He is now 54 NY and has his son Frank 17 NY with him. His wife Esther Baker has died in the past decade. He now lives with George and Mary Jane Fuller. Mary Jane (26 NY) is his daughter. He is widowed here still in 1880.
Another one of Seth’s kids, but he never married. He is now 51 NY and boarding with a Haynes family. Horace was at home in Sanford in 1850, but the family wasn’t indexed in 1860. His stepmother Roxy Underwood is still back there though. Now, he lives next door to his brother Martin.
Seth’s son is now 56 NY (should be VT), Clarissa Jane Parsons is 52 NY, Angeline (Augusta) 16 NY, Eugene 11 (should be 14 see 1860) NY and Anna A. 9 NY.
Roxanna Underwood was the second and last wife of Seth Putnam. She is now 78 NY and lives with Peter and Minerva Underwood. Peter is a son of her first marriage.
He is 26 NY and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Crosby is 21 NY. He is Charles Edwin Putnam, a son of Miles Putnam and Marilla Terry. The family was in Pennsylvania in 1850 and back in Broome County in 1860. Miles’ folks were Seth Putnam and Jane Karr Hall from Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont. Charles served in the Union Army as a horseman under Sheridan and Custer and then was a medical assistant in Washington DC until the end of the war. He first married Sarah Elizabeth Crosby here in Broome County. They will move to Nebraska where she will die in the mid 1870s. He then married Jennie Rickerson in 1879. They will have two children before she dies in 1883 or 1884. By 1900 he will be remarried again to Julia Hill. He will be in Red Cloud, Nebraska through the 1920 census, and will die in Hot Springs, South Dakota August 2, 1932. He’ll have four wives all told.
Sibyl Lilly is the widow of Nathan Putnam who was here in 1850 and, like several others, not indexed in 1860. She is now 79 NY and living with a Whitman family.
He is a laborer 29 NY, Jane 25 NY, John 6 NY and William 4 NY. He is a son of the upcoming John and Mary Ann. He was born here and with the family in 1850 here. They will be here in 1880 too.
Been here since the 40s, a son of Peter Putman and Mary Waters. They were here in 1850 and overlooked in 1860. He is now 59 NY, Mary Ann Leam, his wife, 47 NY. They only had one son, Joseph over in Great Valley.
He is 16 NY and, along with some 20 other fellas, in the Chamberlain Institute, what ever that is.
Eliphalet Fox is still making sashes and blinds here in Auburn. He is now 63 MA, Jane Conklin his third wife is 45 NY, and they still have Frederick 10 NY who is at school. Also there are Frances and Joseph Conklin. Joseph is her son by her prior marriage, Frances is his wife.
He is a son of Lewis and Emeline (born here October 16, 1835), and married (November 22, 1860). He is now 34 NY, Carrie Weed, his wife, 29 NY, Anna 8 NY and Lewis Weed 2 NY. They won’t have any more kids so will miss out in the 1880 census. He is a farmer.
He is Alonzo Lewis Putnam, Asa and Louisa’s son and is also now married. He is a carpenter 46 NY, Mary Ann Babcock 40 NY. He was born here October 22, 1822 and married Mary Ann here December 19, 1860. They will not have any children. They are in Auburn in 1880.
He was indexed as A. A., and is Lewis Senior’s son. He is now 72 NY and still farming, Louisa Storke is 61 NY. He was ‘gored to death’ by a bull August 6, 1872. Louisa will be widowed here in 1880 living with her daughter Lucinda.
He was indexed as Hiram, but is Asa’s son Harvey. He is now 36 NY, and Electa Andrews is also 36 NY.
Another son of Lewis senior. He is 70 NY, Abigail Huntington his third wife is 52 NY. They have Arthur 8 NY.
He is 31 NY, Sarah Clark 29 NY. Also there are her folks Luke Clark 62 NY and Elizabeth Clark 63 NY. Jacob junior was born in Cato November 9, 1839 and married Sarah here October 31, 1867. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Hannah Lewis from Cato, Cayuga County. His dad just died back there in 1867. Strange to see a Dutch guy stuck in here with all the others who are New Englanders, but Sarah was from here and he married her shortly after returning from the Civil War. They won’t have any children, and will soon move to Hannibal, Oswego County and still be there in the 1920 census.
He is a farmer 41 NY, Amanda Remington 35 NY, Addie 16 NY, Maria 12 NY and George (listed Ernest in 1860) 10 NY. He is a son of Robert Putnam and was born here. He will die here September 1, 1877. These are the only kids they will have. George Ernest will die here in 1886.
He is now 68 NY. Emeline McGee is now 60 NY. They have O. F. and Josephine Atwood living with them. Josephine (28 NY) is their daughter. She was at home in 1860 and off somewhere in 1850.
Francis is another son of Lewis and Emeline. He is now 38 NY and a farmer. His wife Marietta Remington 32 NY and Ernest A. 8 (only 11 in 1880, probably 8/12 now) NY. He was born here July 7, 1832 and married Marietta October 23 1861. They will be here in 1880, and Marietta will be widowed here in 1900. By then, Brutus will have been renamed Weedsport.
He is a carriage maker 39 NY, Mary Jane Platt, his wife, 22 NY and young Fred is 1 NY. He was born here in Cato in 1832, a son of Jacob Putman and Hannah Lewis. He married Mary Jane in 1868. Dutch like everyone in town. I don’t find them in 1880, but in 1900 they are in Charlton, Saratoga County.
Yet another one of Jacob and Hannah’s sons. Sebastian Gonsolvus is 49 NY. His sons Frank S. 25 NY, Harry S. 23 NY and Isaac L. (Lewis) 16 NY are at home. Sebastian was born back in Tribes Hill, Montgomery County on April 11, 1820, and he will die in Jordan, Onondaga County February 21, 1891. He Married Philinda M. Ewell in 1842, and she has just died here September 22, 1869.
He is 54 NY, Mary Ann 39 CAN and William A. 1 NY. He was single in Auburn in 1850. No idea who he is.
He is 18 NY and at the Friends Academy here. He is a son of David Dense Putman from Venice, Cayuga County. He was home there in 1860 and is also listed there now in 1870. Just away at school.
David Dense is now 47 NY, Theresa Hunsicker, his wife, is 42 NY, Franklin 18 NY and Charles 8 NY. He is a son of Jacob and Hannah, and was in Cato in 1850. Dutch. He’ll be here until he dies in 1907.
He is Number 2889, a son of Abner Putnam and Vesta Mallory. He was born in Stockton. He is now 48 NY, his wife Seba Barber 47 NY, George 19 NY and Edward 9 NY. They will be here through the 1900 census.
He is a son of Ephron Putnam and Phoebe Wilmarth of Ellery. He was here in Carroll in 1860, and is now 38 NY, Mary Jane Osgood, his wife, 30 NY (PA in 1860), Lizzie (Josephine in 1860, Lizzie again in 1880) 10 NY, Etta 8 NY and Clyde 6 NY. He’ll be here through the 1900. He is a carpenter.
She is 33 NY and lives with an Evans family. Probably someone’s widow.
He is 37 NY and boarding. He is a butter dealer. He is the son of Olvin Putnam of Stockton. He was married there in 1860. Don’t know what happened to Christina now, but she will be in Fredonia with their son Victor in 1880, and in 1900 she will be in California.
He is number 2892, a son of Abner and Vesta. He was widowed at home with his folks in 1860, but has since married a widow Electa Ann (Montague) Wait in 1861 and the family is together now. Edwin is 46 NY, Electa 46 NY, Willie A. (William Abner) 16 NY, Mary E. 12 NY and young Edwin G. is 4 NY. He was born in 1828 and will die here September 9, 1889. The son Edwin was born in December 1865 andwill die May 2, 1873.
He is number 2664, a son of Joshua Putnam (1195) and Lucy Lathrop of Bethel, Vermont. Been here most of his life. He is now a retired farmer 72 VT and Rebecca Steward is 70 VT. Kids are all off on their own now, in fact they are all out of the state.
She is 15 NY and a servant at the Haskins farm. She is a daughter of Warren Putnam here in town.
She is 23 NY and a servant with a Family that kinda looks like Frenloir or something. She is another daughter of Warren and Susannah.
He is 22 NY, another of Warren’s kids, and is a laborer on the Wallace farm.
He is a son of Ephraim Putnam (607) and Phebe Wilmarth from Washington County, but has been here for most of his life. He is now 47 NY, Susannah Carpenter 47 NY. At least one kid, Emerrette 12 NY, has stuck it out here at home. He is a manufacturer, but probably not too successful if all his kids are hired out to other families.
Another of Warren’s sons. He is 26 NY a farmer, Mary Gifford, his wife, 24 NY and Delilah 2 NY. They live with Benjamin and Sonesta Brooks.
He is 27 NY and is a clerk in the hotel he lives in. He is Oscar Davis Putnam, a son of Aaron Davis Putnam of Charlotte. He was boarding in Dunkirk in 1860.
Number 2844, a son of Andrew Putnam of Stockton. He is 63 NY, Alvira Schofield 65 NY. They live with their daughter Maria Strum (26 NY) and her family. He lists himself now as a retired farmer. Guess gave up the clergy as well.
He is number 2842, one of Andrew’s sons. He is now 68 NY, Zeruah Lawrence his wife 64 VT. They are here again in 1880.
He is 41 NY, Rose 31 NY and Mary 11 NY. Rose Ann Wesley is a new wife. He was married to Christina in 1860. Rose will hang in there and they will be here in 1880 and again in 1900. He is a son of Hiram Putnam and Zeruah Lawrence.
Hiram’s son. In 1860 he was listed Alvin, but it is probably Olvin as that name pops up in this family. Anyway, he is now 43 NY, and has a new wife Salina Chapman 34 CT. Olvin will die here in 1893, but Salina will be here in the 1900.
Been around here since he married and left Vermont in the late 1830s. He is now 62 VT, his wife Hannah Field is 59 VT, Helen P. 21 and Mary L.20 NY. Their son, William Riley, is now married and living in Smith Center, Kansas.
Somehow the town wasn’t indexed, but there are a bunch of folks here. See the 1860 and 1880 and guess.
JOHN B. (BEAMAN) PUTNAM Pomfret, Chautauqua County
He is a son of Nathan Bancroft Putnam. He is 36 MA, a farmer, Julia (Mrs. Julia B. Meigs) is 35 NY. They will soon move to Chicago and be there in the 1880, then move to New York City. He will die there in the late 1890s, and Julia will be widowed there in 1900. There weren’t any children.
He is a seed peddler 31 NY, Hattie Brown 26 NY and Alice 2 NY. He is a son of Aaron Davis Putnam (3356) and was here in 1860, and in Charlotte before that. Jesse was born in Charlotte January 25, 1838. He served in the Civil War, returned here and married Harriet L. Brown August 30, 1866. They will be here through 1900, and Hattie will be widowed here in 1920.
He is 33 NY, Mary McDaniel 25 VT. He is a son of Aaron L. and Almira Putnam. He was born here May 2, 1836 and married Mary Frances McDonald of Rutland, Vermont here on July 5, 1865. They will be here through the 1890s, and Mary will be here through the 1920 census.
Elmira Beaman is the widow of Nathan Bancroft Putnam who died here April 9, 1864. She is now 65 MA, Nathan A. 40 MA, a retired grocer, Mira A. 39 MA, Herbert J. 27 NY a grocer, and Elvira 25 NY. Elmira was born May 8, 1805 and will die here April 2, 1880. Herbert will marry Laura Hale in 1876. Nathan and Mira will never marry, and will be here through the 1900.
AARON L. PUTNAM Pomfret, Chautauqua County
Nathan (Sr.)’s son is now a farmer 66 MA, Dolly O. (Almira E. Osgood) 62 MA, Hannah Jane 38 MA, Albert L. (Lawrence) 27 NY, Cornelia Maynard (Albert’s wife) 26 NY (actually WI), and Arthur C. 21 NY. Albert runs a dry goods store and his brother Arthur works for him. Albert married Cornelia A. Maynard in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 30, 1869. Albert was born February 12, 1843 and will die here January 26, 1890. Cornelia was born June 6, 1845 and will be here till she dies August 31, 1921. Aaron was born April 25, 1804 and will die here March 29, 1880. Dolly was born March 25, 1808 and will die shortly on August 17, 1870.
He is a carpenter and joiner, 57 VT, Hannah Ellis 43 MA, Carrie 15 NY, Dora 11 NY, Gertrude 9 NY and Clyde 6/12 NY. He is a son of Jacob Putnam (#1882) and Mary Burton. Been here since the 1830s and will be till he dies sometime before 1900 when Hannah is shown here as a widow. They were in Westfield in 1860 and will be in Chautauqua in 1880.
He is now 61 NY, Almira Emery his wife 50 NY, Eleanor A. 20 NY and the twins Marvin and Murray are now 13 NY. He is number 2845, a son of Andrew and Azuba.
Newel’s son is now 49 NY, Maria Louise Flagg his wife 48 VT, Sumner (Charles Sumner) 11 NY and Mary E. 9 NY. He will die here October 28, 1871. Maria will marry Forbes Johnson and be here in Ellery in 1880 along with young Mary.
He is a
son of Gilbert Putnam and Thankful Rogers, and was born here July 14, 1836. He
is now a farmer 34 NY, Annette Schofield 29 NY and their son Fayette 2 NY.
Delos married Annette here July 8, 1862. She is from Ellery. He will soon
become Justice of the Peace here in town, and become a Judge by the 1890s.
She is Frances Mitchell, wife of Elisha Putnam (2887) a son of Abner and Vesta Putnam. She is 53 NY, her son Albert E. 12 NY is at home. Elisha has to be around somewhere as he isn’t supposed to die until January 15, 1884. He will be widowed here in 1880. Fanny was born May 4, 1817 and will die here May 14, 1878. The son Albert or Elbert was born March 28, 1858 and will die soon on mAy 29, 1872.
He is now 39 NY, Louisa Fuller 36 NY, Frank F. (Fuller) 14 NY, Almira L. 12 NY, Alice 9 NY. Also here is his mother Vesta Mallory Putnam 75 VT. Corydon is a son of Abner and Vesta. Louisa will die July 7, 1870 at age 36, and he will marry Celesia S. Matthewson October 8, 1871. They will be here in 1880. He is number 2894. The son Frank Fuller was born May 15, 1856 and will die here July 19, 1880.
He is another of Abner’s sons. He is number 2890. He is now 46 NY MA MA, Amelia Woods, wife number 3, is 36 NY VT VT, Ernest W. 13 NY, Clayton 6 NY, Clesson, a son 6 NY, and Herbert 3 NY. His first wife Martha Walker died in 1859. He married Marilla R. Smith (September 19, 1860). She died in 1866, and he married Amelia M. Woods on April 20, 1869. They will be here in 1880. Amelia will be widowed here in the 1900.
Another of Gilbert’s sons, though not listed in Eben’s numbering system. He would be kinda 2894.5. He is now 39 NY, Mary Ann Hoag 38 NY, Frank 14 NY, Lillie 12 NY, Gertrude 7 NY, Fred 5 NY and Fritz 3 NY.
He is 51 VT, and widowed. His children are Lillian 22 NY, Burton 20 NY, Ida 16 NY, Bradford 14 NY and Mary 10 NY. He is a son of Jacob Putnam (#1882) and Mary Burton, and has been here most of his life. He was married in 1860 to Alpha Ann Van Vleet who has died here in 1863. In 1873, he will marry Julia Keyes. They will be here in 1880 and 1900.
He is now 81 NH and widowed since his wife Lucy Morse died in 1865. He is still living with George and Eleanor West as he has since the 1840s. Eleanor is his daughter. He’ll be here till he dies in 1879 at age 90. He is a son of Thomas Putnam (452D) of Charlestown, New Hampshire.
He is a bedspring manufacturer, and is 40 MA, Bertha 25 MA, Emma J. 14 MA and John 3 MA. He is William Malcomb Putnam, and is living with his second wife Bertha Foster. He is a son of John Putnam and Adeline Joselyn of Boston. He was married to Annie Joselyn in 1855. He then married Bertha Foster March 20, 1867. They were in Boston in 1860, and by 1880 will be in Sandwich, Mass. out here on Cape Cod where I live.
She is a dressmaker 35 VT, her daughter Ella is 16 VT.
JOSEPH PUTNAM Horseheads, Chemung County
He is listed as John but is a son of Silas Putnam and Martha Jordan and was married here in 1860. He is now a blacksmith 41 VT, his wife Mary (possibly Wheeler) is 40 NY and they have Clara (Cleona) 12 NY and Willard 9 NY. His folks went to Michigan in the 1830s and this family will also be in Lenawee County Michigan by 1880.
He is 57 NY, a farmer, Jane 63 NY. Don’t find them in 1850 or 1860. Probably Dutch.
He is 40 NY and a farm laborer.
He is 17 NY and boarding with the family of John E. and Harriet Tuttle. He is a son of Daniel Webster Putnam and Mary Jane Hudson. He and the family were here (New Berlin) in 1860. His dad was killed in the Civil War in 1863. No idea where the rest of the family is now though. He will be married in Madison County in 1880, and in Oneida County with a second wife in 1900. Then they will be in Madison County in 1910 and 1920.
She is 27 NY, Flora 9 VT, Walter 6 VT and Henrietta 1 NY. She is Cornelia Meyers. She has just married Cornelius Lewis Putnam, Alva’s son. These kids are with his first wife Lucy Haskins (although Henrietta may be hers). Don’t know where Corny is, probably back in Vermont wrapping up things. They will all be together here in 1880 with some more kids. Then in the 1880s, they will go to Wardsboro, Vermont and remain there all their lives. They will be there in the 1900 census.
He is now 63 NY, a carpenter and joiner, Maria Call his wife 54 NH, William 21 NY and Mary 13 NY. Been here a while now, but got missed in the 1860. Maria will die here February 25, 1879. He will then marry Harriet D. Brisbin here in Mooers on October 15, 1881. He will be here until he dies January 19, 1896.
He is 32 NY, Esther Hanson 22 NY and they have Curtis 1/12 NY. He is a son of Archelaus Putnam and Deborah Kimball. He was born here. His folks are from Wilton, New Hampshire. They will be here in 1880, and he will be widowed here by 1900. Spent all his life right here.
Another of Archelaus’ sons. He is now 52 NY a laborer, his wife Jane Ormsby is 55 NY. Still at home are Melvin 20 NY, Archelaus 18 NY, Israel 12 NY. His son Arthur lives next door. The son Melvin will be in Missaukee County, Michigan by 1880, and then back here by 1900.
Aaron’s son is now 24 NY a laborer and his wife Emma Jane Andrews is 25 NY. They are here through 1910 and Emma till 1920 and later.
He is a son of Archelaus Putnam and Deb Kimball. He was single here in 1860, and is now married. He is a retail grocer 39 NY, Sarah Ayers his wife 35 NY. He is in Nashua, New Hampshire in 1880, and Sarah is here in 1880. Don’t find either in 1900. Sarah is here in 1910 but no Ephraim.
He is 28 NY, Augusta 28 NY, George junior 8 and Arthur 7. He is a son of Isaac Putnam and Lucinda Church from Berkshire County, Mass. The family was all here in 1860, he is all that’s left here now, and he’s outa here shortly himself, but may still be here. He is in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1900.
He is now listing himself as a retired farmer. He is 62 NY, Jennette Cleveland, his wife, 55 NY and John C. (Cleveland) 14 NY is still at home. The other son, Samuel Cleveland, has just gotten married and is currently in Wisconsin. He’ll be back here in 1880 and then off to Oregon.
He is a shingle maker 48 NY. His wife Rachel is 41 NY and they have Amelia 17 NY, Jerome 14 NY, Eugene 12 NY, Fanny L. 9 NY and Emma S. 4 NY. They were here in 1860, but it was part of Cayuga County Then. Rachel will be remarried in 1880 and have most of the kids with her in Truxton. By 1880 William will be in Madison County and the daughter Fanny will be there with him.
Calvin’s son, William Wallace Putnam, is now 41 NY, Philinda Pierce his wife 40 NY, Fred W. 13 NY and John 9 NY. Also here is Philinda’s mother Polly Pierce 82 MA. Bill will be here until he dies in 1896.
She is 17 NY and lives in the County Poor House. She is listed as an idiot.
She is 35 NY and living with William and Nancy Park. No ideas, except there was a Kendall Putnam around here in 1850, but that’s really it.
He is 45 NH, Laura Submit Hall, his wife, 40 NY, Minnie 16 NY, Kate 14 NY and Dulcy 12 NY (really is Drury a son who was born February 2, 1858 and will die here April 8, 1881). He is John Woodbury Putnam (2758), a son of John Putnam (1235) and Almira French of Croydon, New Hampshire. He was born there April 6, 1825, and married Laura there October 7, 1852. They are here in 1880 and John will die here February 2, 1897. In 1900, Laura will be widowed, and living with her then married daughter Kate.
He is a railroad foreman. He is 38 CAN, Rebecca 28 NY and Frances 4 NY. They will be in Binghamton, Broome County in 1880.
He is 4 NY and black. In 1880, he will be here with his mother Hannah.
He is 50 VT, Emeline Tompkins 43 CT, Howard B. 20 CT and Lillie Belle 14 CT. They were in Amenia in 1860, and as I told you then, have moved over here by the Hudson and run the Morgan House Hotel here in town. He’ll be here till he dies in August 1880. By 1900, everyone is gone from here. The son Howard will be a few miles away in Hudson, Columbia County.
She is 60 VT and lives with Wesley Larkin 28 NY. Wonder if this is a duplicate listing for the next Mary.

James is a son of Harvey Putnam (1729) and Myra Osborne of Attica, NY. James graduated from Yale. He is now listed as a retired lawyer, but will be the Postmaster in Buffalo and will soon be the U. S. Consul at Le Havre and then Minister to Belgium in the 1880s. That’s why young Harvey was born in France. Over there briefly. They will be here in 1880 then overseas, and then back here about 1890. They will be in the 1900 census here. James was first married to Harriet Foster Palmer back in 1842. She died and he married Kate in 1855 here in Buffalo.
He is a tanner and is 27 NY. This is just a duplicate listing. He is shown also with his folks James Osborne and Kate Putnam. George will be married and in Raritan, New Jersey by the 1880, and in New York City by 1900.

He was here in 1850, in Minnesota in the late 1850s and early 1860s. He will be here in 1880, and will next show up in San Diego County, California in 1900.
Daniel Porter has moved over from Willsboro and has a new wife. He is now 63 VT, Betsy 48 VT, a son still only listed as L. D. 16 NY and Alice 13 NY. Their son Albert (here in 1860) is now in De Kalb County Missouri and the son L. D. is with him there by 1880.
Ruhama Marshall is the widow of Hiram Putnam from here in Essex. She is now 68 NY and has Mary Moorehouse 40 NY with her. She had a Mary Ann Morton about the right age with her in 1860 as well.

They are kids of Stephen Putnam and Rosella Charles from Franklin and then Orange County, Vermont. Their dad died there in 1864. They will all head off to Port Henry, Essex County shortly. Josephine will be widowed and living with her family there in 1900. That’s how I know her last name. John will die shortly and Josephine will marry his brother Charles, the Charles listed next in Ticonderoga. They will be there in 1880.

He is the son of Isaac Putnam and Mary ‘Polly’ Chamberlain from Cornish, Cheshire County New Hampshire. He was born there October 12, 1812. They were in St. Lawrence County in 1850 and 1860 and are still here in Franklin County in 1880.
He is now a hotel keeper, 31 NY, Mary Ellen Gray, his wife, 35 Alpha 11 NY, Harry 6 NY, John 4 NY and George 2 NY. He was born here April 4, 1839, a son of John Peter Putman and Sarah Amelia Whitlock. By 1880, they will be in Divide, Phelps County, Nebraska. They didn’t stay long and everyone will be in Johnstown, Fulton County for the 1900 census.

She might be Sarah’s mother, not certain as John’s wife was Sarah Amelia Whitlock. John will be here until he dies in 1889. He is a son of Peter Derrick Putman and Maria Eacher. In 1880, he will have a new wife named Julia Allcock.

He is 17 NY (CT) and boarding. He is a clerk in a hardware store. He was here with his widowed mother in 1860. His folks were Charles Simeon Putnam and Sarah Fiten from Derby, Connecticut.
He is 47 NY, Phoebe Clarinda Hawley his wife 36 NY, Newell 20 NY. Also there is a servant Louisa Vase 28 NY. He is a son of Franklin and Phebe Putnam, and was born in Batavia. Franklin was a son of Peter Putnam number 1080. They were in Erie County in 1850, in Wyoming County in 1860. He is still a minister, and that is why he travels around. He will die here February 1, 1878 and be buried in West Bethany. Clarinda will be back in Wyoming County and widowed by 1880. She will die June 30, 1895 and be buried here in West Bethany.
He is 68 NY and lives with Ezra and Lydia Solomon. He is number 2447, a son of Caleb Putnam (1085) and was born in Rome, NY. He was here in Genesee County in 1830, in Niagara County in 1850 and living alone with the Solomons in 1860 too. I have no idea who the Solomon’s are; Lydia is not a sister, might be a daughter. In 1880, he will be in Flint, Michigan and states he is widowed.
She is 17 NY and a domestic with a Keyes family. She is a daughter of Nicholas Putman from Little Falls. She’ll still be single here in 1900.
She is 46 NY and her son Adolphus 13 NY. They are boarding. She is the widow of Aaron Putman of Warren, Herkimer County.

She is 68 NY, Eliza 34 NY and David 27 NY. David works in the armory. She is Eve Smith, widow of David Arent Putman. She has been widowed here some time now. She and Eliza will be here in 1880. David will be married and here in town then as well.

Marietta will die here July 31, 1879. John will die December 18, 1894. The family is Dutch, see 1850 for the line.
She is a school teacher 17 NY and boarding with her folks, the Townsend family. She is Nancy Townsend who has just married Squire Putnam who is a son of John Adams Putman. Don’t know why he is still listed t home with his folks, but they will all be together in 1880. They were just married here on June 19, 1870.
He is 26 CAN and boarding. He’s new. The age exactly fits Robert b. 18 Feb 1844 in Merrickville, Ontario. He is the son of Solomon Ephraim and Emily Pearson, son of Robert and Olive Tuttle, grandson of Ephron Putnam and Miriam Doty. The only problem is he is married and having kids up on Ontario at this same time. Maybe he is just visiting or working here on the coast right across from Ontario.

He is 45 MA a clergyman, Ellen (Eliza K. Butttrick his second wife) 38 MA, Endicott 3 NY and Alfred junior 4/12 NY. He is Alfred Porter Putnam, son of Elias Putnam (1775) and Eunice Ross of Danvers. They were in Roxbury, Mass. in 1860, and they will be back in Salem, Mass. in 1900.
She is 72 MA, Harriet 35 NY and Emily 37 NH. The daughters are both teachers. She is listed as Medesy, but is Betsy Pope, widow of Sam Putnam. Been here some 40 years now, and will be in 1880 at age 83.
He is 47 NH, Mary E. 44 NY. He is a secretary at a saw manufacturing Company. He is the son of Samuel Putnam and Betsy Pope. He was here at home with them in 1850. He and Mary will be in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1880.

He is 20 MA, Mary 19 NY. He is a broom maker. He is George Starr Putnam. He is a son of Sardis Barnes Putnam and Dorothy Starr. He was born back in Becket or Dalton, Mass and moved with his folks to Cayuga County. He’ll be here through the 1900 census.
She is 34 NY a seamstress living with a Snyder family. She will be here in 1900 too. She is a sister of the following Ellis Putman and also a daughter of Peter and Margaret Putman. She will be here in 1880 and 1900 as well.
He is a farmer 41 NY, Helen Maars Burch, his wife, 37 NY, George B. (Banister) 14 NY, Sarah F. 13 CAN, Virginia B. (Bell) 9 VA, and Arthur B. 7 NY. He will be here in 1900 as well. He is a son of Peter Putman Jr. and Margaret Saunders. They were here in the 1840s and 50s. Dutch folks. According to a DAR application of the daughter Virginia Bell, she states he lived in St. Lawrence County New York, Easton Corners, Canada, Clarksville Virginia (where she was born and named), and a few other spots in NY State. Interesting. Ellis was with his brother George William in Clarksville, Virginia in 1860 and at that time Helen was married to George. George died and Ellis married Helen. All the kids through Virginia Bell are George’s. Not sure who Arthur belongs to, but would guess based on ages that he too is George’s. George worked for the railroad and traveled all over as shown by the kids’ birthplaces. Ellis and Helen will be here through 1900.
He is 43 NY, Elizabeth Hutchinson, his wife, 41 NY. He is a son of Benjamin Putman from Cazenovia. He was in Fenner in 1860, but is now back here. Dutch family.
He is another son of Benjamin Putman and Sophia Moyer. He lives next door to his brother Oscar. Boardman is now 26 NY, Carrie 27 NY and they have Charles 1 NY. Also here are Osgood Putman 18 NY who is a son of his brother Oscar, and a Helen Putman 10 NY who I have no clue about.
She is 63 NY and lives with William Stoddard 59 NY. She was alone or widowed here in 1860. Don’t know who her husband was though.
She was here in 1850 and 1860 and is the ex-wife of Henry Putnam. She is now 52 NY, and her daughters Catherine 21 NY and Mary 16 NY. These two were with their dad in 1860, but he’s long gone now. She will be here in 1880 living with her then married daughter Mary.
She is 21 NY a servant with a Lillus family. This is a duplicate listing for the above Catherine.
She is 36 NY, her son Freddie 13 NY. She is Laura Bond, now the ex-wife of Henry Locke Putnam, Elijah’s son. She and her son will soon be in Cleveland, Ohio and be there in the 1880 and 1900 census. Henry is off somewhere, but will be here in 1880 living with his brother Samuel.
Elijah’s son is still here practicing medicine. He is now 69 NY, Elizabeth Sarah Reed his wife is 53 NY, Carrie 18 NY, Minnie (Mary) 16 NY. Also here is Hattie Reed 26 NY.
Yet another of Elijah’s sons. Sidney is now 65 NY and farming, Ruth Brownell his wife is 57 NY, Leverett 33 NY. Then there is a girl whose name looks like Cantie 10 NY and an Elizabeth 36 NY. They will be here in 1880.
Sidney’s twin. He is 65 NY, Eliza (Elizabeth Hazzard) 58 NY, Harriet 31 NY, Darwin 26 NY, and Russell 22 NY.
He is 43 NY and has Viola 12 NY with him. Also here is Samuel Reese 63 NY. Now, look back at John and that family in Fenner in 1860 (who are also here now). You’ll get a rough idea of who Viola is. Josiah was listed as Joseph in Fenner in 1860, and is another of Aaron’s sons. Guess he kinda adopted Viola. No clue as to who Sam Reese is.
He has moved over from Fenner. He is 50 NY, Aurilla 42 NY, John 13 NY and Mary 8 NY. See 1860 for who he is too. They’ll be here in 1880.

He is 52 NY, Lucy 45 NY. He is Orson Resallion Putnam, a son of Joel Putnam and his second wife Elizabeth. He was born in Becket, Berkshire County, Massachusetts October 14, 1819. Joel was a son of Isaac Putnam number 226. They were in Syracuse in 1860.
He is 62 NY, Jeanette 48 NY. He was here in 1860, and listed Lansing B. Jeanette is new though.
She is 33 NY, Katy M. 9 NY. She runs a boarding house. She is Mary Stuart, widow of Israel Henry Putnam who died here in 1866.

He is 12 NY and is with a Baptist Minister. In 1860, there was a 2 year old Warren in New York City who was a son of John DeGarmo Putman and Mary Ann Roberts. Must be him. He will be in Ohio by 1900. Dutch Family

He is Warren Washington Putnam 23 NY a laborer, Sophia Benninger his wife 21 Baden (Germany), Frank 3 NY, George 2 NY and Charles 4/12 NY. Also here is his brother William Putnam 21 NY. In 1850 they were in Albion, Orleans County and were sons of George and Emeline Putnam. They were orphaned there in 1860 and are here now.

He is 45 CAN, Helen 40 CAN, Charles 8 NY, Mary 5 NY, Barbara 2 NY. Also there is Elizabeth Putman 68 Germany, who is his mother I would guess.

He is 58 NY, Almira Briggs 54 NY, Sarah J. 28 NY, Deborah 21 NY, John D. 18 NY and Marcus J. 16 NY. He was born in Johnstown, a son of John Derrick Putman and Anna Van Alstyne. He was here in 1860. He now lists himself as retired. In 1880, all the kids will be here, but by themselves. John will die in 1872, Almira in 1879.
VISCHER PUTMAN Amsterdam, Montgomery County
He is a blacksmith 52 NY, Charlotte Serviss his wife 53 NY, Ada 21 NY and Adelbert 18 NY. They were in Florida NY in 1850 and 1860. He is a son of Vischer Putman and Maria Balch of Mohawk. His grandmother’s name was Visscher. He and Charlotte will be in Albany in 1880.
EFFINGHAM PUTMAN Amsterdam, Montgomery County
He is a dry goods merchant, 35 NY, Hattie Ann is 34 NY. He is a son of Cornelius Hendrick Putman and Gazena Mabie of Glen. He was here in 1860. His middle name is Hendrick if you’re interested.
ISAAC H. PUTMAN Amsterdam, Montgomery County
He is a coffin maker, 34 NY, Mary Russell, his wife, is 31 NY and Ida 8 NY. They are with a Dodds family. He is a son of David Putman and Nancy Dodds. These folks here are probably his grandparents.
WILSON PUTMAN Amsterdam, Montgomery County
He is listed as 43 (should be 53) NY, Elizabeth Cooper his wife is 53 NY, Calista 23 NY, Nancy 21 NY, Willie 17 NY. He is a son of Peter Victor Putman and Maria Lepper. He was born here in Amsterdam. They’ll be here in 1880.

He is a farmer 44 NY, Debra (also a Putman) 44 NY, Garret H. 19 NY, Richard T. 16 NY, Charles E. 12 NY, Martha F. (Marcus actually) 11 NY and Minnie 7 NY. He was here in 1860, and will be in 1880.
JACOB PUTMAN Amsterdam, Montgomery County
He is a farmer 63 NY, Betsy 60 NY and Jane 47 NY. He is a son of Francis Putman and Hannah Lepper from Caughnawaga. Betsy and Jane are his sisters. None of them ever married it seems.
RACHEL PUTMAN, Amsterdam, Montgomery County
She is Rachel Kline, widow of Teunis Putman. Teunis was a son of John Arent Putman and Magdalena Visscher. She is now 68 NY, and her daughter Maria M. (Matilda) is 42 NY. They’ll both be here in 1880.
DOUW PUTMAN Amsterdam, Montgomery County
He is now 48 NY, Margaret Waller his wife 45 NY, Margaret 13 NY, Garry (Garret James) 10 NY, Frank 7 NY. Douw is a son of Garret Victor Putman and Mary Hanson. He was born in Amsterdam February 8, 1817, and married Margaret February 28, 1855. He’ll be here until he dies in 1899.

Victor Peter is 55 NY, his brother Jacob Peter 60 NY. They are farmers, been here all their lives and never married. They are sons of Peter Victor Putman and Mary Lepper.

He is a farmer 37 NY, Harriet Scott 29 NY, Nancy 14 NY, Hannah 12 NY, Estella 8 NY, Ida 5 NY, Dayton 2 NY, Jane 8/12 NY. Also listed is Jay Putman 14 NY, a laborer. Jay is a son of Sam’s brother Christopher and was at home in Root in 1860. He is Samuel Osborne Putman, son of Abram Putman and Hannah Osborne. He was in Root in 1860.

DANFORTH L. (LORENZO) PUTMAN Charleston, Montgomery County
He is 12 NY and lives with Henry and Nancy Kimball. He is a son of Henry C. Putman and Asenath Ostakout, and was born here in Charleston. I have no idea who the Kimballs are. Nancy may be his father’s sister. At any rate, Danforth is also listed back in Root with his folks. He will be in Orleans County in 1880.

He is a cheese smoker 17 NY and is boarding. He is a son of Victor Garret Putman and was home in Amsterdam in 1860.
JOHN C. (CONYNE) PUTMAN Florida, Montgomery County
He is a coal dealer 48 NY, his wife Mary Margaret Consaul is 46 NY, Harriet 22 NY, John C. 19 NY, Anna 17 NY, Cora and her twin Dora are 15 NY, and Howard 11 NY. He is a son of William Putman and Harriet Conyne, and has been here all his life. He was born here on January 12, 1822.
WILLIAM PUTMAN Florida, Montgomery County
He is a son of the above John and Mary, and lives next door now. He is a clerk in a dry goods store, 24 NY, Ellen Julia Hubbel his wife is 22 NY and they have Ada 1 NY. They were married here in late 1868.
STEPHEN PUTMAN Florida, Montgomery County
He is a cabinet maker, 27 NY, Sarah Ann Herrick, his wife, 26 NY and Frank 4 NY. He is a son of David Putman and Nancy Dodds, and was born in West Charlton, Saratoga County. He married Sarah in Amsterdam November 4, 1862. They are here still in 1880.
G. V. (GARRET VICTOR) PUTMAN Florida, Montgomery County
Been here forever. He is now 77 NY, his son John 35 NY and also here is the family of Richard Davis. They were all living here in 1860, but since then Garret’s wife Mary Hanson has died as has John’s wife Catalina.
PETER W. (WILLIAM) PUTMAN Glen, Montgomery County
He is a commission agent and is now 52 NY, his wife Mary Ann Feeter (Veeder) is 55 NY. He is a son of William Putman and Harriet Coyne. Peter married Harriet Freeman here in Glen in 1838 and she died in 1845. He then married Mary Ann in 1846. Kids are all gone now. He’ll be in Fultonville in 1880.
MATTHEW PUTMAN Glen, Montgomery County
He is now 82, Nancy Ann Veeder 81. He is now ‘without employment’ and about time. They still live with their daughter Rebecca and her husband Horatio Voorhees.
JOHN R. (RALPH) PUTMAN Glen, Montgomery County
He is now a boat builder (blacksmith before) 40 NY, Mary Jane Haggert 38 NY, Seward 15 NY, Sarah Frances 10 NY, John R. 8 NY and Louella 3 NY. He is a son of Ralph Putman and Jane Voorhees from Mohawk. He was here in Glen in 1860.
EBEN G. PUTMAN Glen, Montgomery County
He is now a house carpenter 44 NY, Catherine 34 and Hattie 3 NY. He is Ebenezer junior and was here in 1860. He was born in Johnstown, now in Fulton County. They will be in Fultonville in 1880.
WILLIAM PUTMAN Glen, Montgomery County
He is now 59 NY, Eliza C. Martin 55 NY, John W. 23 NY, Susan G. 21 NY, and Hattie F. 20 NY. He is a son of John Putman and Mary Schenk.
JOHN PUTMAN Glen, Montgomery County
He is a butcher, 36 NY, Catherine 33 NY, Carrie 4 NY and Blanche 1 NY. Also here are John S. Putman 27 NY who I think is the son of Abraham Putman junior from Glen, and an Alice Putman 11 NY who I have no ideas on. This John is a son of John Lewis Putman and Mary Schenek and was home with them here in Glen in 1860. John will have a new wife, Adelia, in 1880 and 1900, and will die in Amsterdam in 1906.
VICTOR A. (ABRAHAM) PUTMAN Glen, Montgomery County
He is a farmer 47 NY, Emeline Van Horne 48 NY. Also here are their daughter Anna P. Cady 28 NY and her son Putman E. Cady 8 NY. She was married to Edwin Cady who died here in 1868. He is a son of Abraham Victor Putman and Maria Vedder from Glen. There is also a Sophia Snyder 58 NY with them. No idea who she is. They will be here again in 1880.
JOHN V. (VICTOR) PUTMAN Glen, Montgomery County
He is a son of the above Victor, and was with them in 1860. He is 26 NY, Mary Katherine Van Buren his wife 24 NY. Then there is Carrie Putman 23 NY. Don’t know who she is, she is not a sister though She is probably his daughter age 3, as that Carrie is 13 in 1880. John and Mary were married here September 6, 1864. He will be here till he dies June 14, 1909.
