NEW YORK 1910 CENSUS

 

ALBERT PUTMAN  Albany W19, Albany County

He is 58 IL NY NY and widowed. He is a street cleaner for the City. He was here married in 1900, but stated he was born in New York then. I think he is a son of Stephen and Elizabeth Putman from Johnstown and then Mohawk in Montgomery County.

 

CHARLES PUTMAN  Albany W5, Albany County

He is 50 NY NY NY and a mail clerk for the railroad. Catherine his wife of 20 years is 37 NY. Also here is her widowed mother Caroline Cassman or something 65 NY. Charles and Catherine are here in 1920 and Catherine is widowed here in 1930. Looks like the son of Andrew Jackson and Betsy Putman from Johnstown, Fulton County. He was home there in 1880 and I don’t find these folks in 1900.

 

CLARA PUTMAN  Albany W11, Albany County

She is now 72 NY NY NY still single and now living in the Home of the Friendless here in town. She has been living with her brother Peter since the 1870s here in Albany. She is a daughter of Peter and Abigail Putman and was born here. No idea who her folks were though. Her brother Peter is still around too.

 

EDWARD V. (VISCHER) PUTNAM  Albany W17, Albany County

He is 25 NY NY NY and a brakeman on a Street Car. He has been married for 3 years to Sarah Louise Bennidict. He is a son of Simon Wellington Putman and Alice Hadley from Fonda, Montgomery County. He was home there in 1900. They are here in 1920 too. Dutch family.

 

FANNIE MARY PUTNAM  Albany W10, Albany County

She is 24 NY NY NY. She lives with her mother Margaret J. Griffith 46 NY and her husband John Griffith 52 NY. They have been married for 18 years. They were all in Oneida County in 1900.

 

HORACE PUTNAM  Albany W3, Albany County

He is 7 NY NY NY and lives with his widowed grandmother Fanny Gleekstone. He will be here with her in 1920. No idea as to his folks.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  Albany W9, Albany County

He is 62 NY NY NY widowed and still a policeman. He was here in 1900 with his brother Theodore. He is a son James Angus Putnam from here in Albany. I don’t find him in 1920, but I do find his brother Theodore here then and living in the County Almshouse.

 

JOSEPH PUTMAN  Albany W5, Albany County

He is 44 CAN CAN CAN and owns a barber shop. He has been married for 6 years to Sarah who is 52 NY and on her second marriage. There are two of her Dalaripple sons with her. I don’t find him before. There was an older Joseph Putnam from Canada in Cohoes, Albany County in 1900 but no kids with him.

 

MELVILLE PUTNAM  Albany W17, Albany County

He is 39 VA VA VA and a boilermaker for the railroad. He says he is married. Can’t find him in Virginia.

 

PETER PUTMAN  Albany W14, Albany County

He is now 70 NY NY NY widowed and a Marshall for the City Court. He has been here with his wife Adelaide since the 1870s. He is a son of Peter and Abbie and was born here.

 

WELLINGTON V. & ALBERT H. PUTMAN  Albany W7, Albany County

Wellington is 21 NY NY NY, his brother Albert is 17 NY NY NY, and they are boarding. They are sons of George A. and Rosa J. Putman from Fonda, Montgomery County. They were both at home there in 1900. Dutch family.

 

MANUEL PUTNAM  Coeymans, Albany County

He is now 82 CAN, from Montreal. He is widowed and living with his daughter Josephine 42 NY and her husband Sanford Reynolds 48 NY and their kids. He was married here in 1880.

 

ELSON J. (JOHN) PUTMAN  Wirt, Allegany County

He is 49 NY NY NY and a farmer, though he repaired watches on the side later. Hattie, his wife of 27 years is now 47 NY. Never had any kids. He was born here, a son of Ira Putman and Eliza Jane Glover. Dutch folks. They are here in 1920 and 1930 too.

 

FRANK L. (LOWELL) PUTNAM  Wirt, Allegany County

He is 42 NY NY NY and works an oil lease as does his son Mitchell. He has been married to Etha Viola McCoy for 20 years now. She is 37 PA, Nina M. 9 NY, Mitchell A. 17 NY, George Ira 13 NY and J. (John) Elson 7 NY. He is a son of Ira Putman and Eliza Glover from here. They are here in 1920. Dutch family.

 

IRA E. PUTMAN  Wirt, Allegany County

He is now 72 NY NY NY, Eliza Jane Glover his wife of 50 years is now 65 NY. He is a son of John Henry Putman and Hannah Cornwell. He was born here in 1838 and will be here until he dies in 1922. Eliza will die here in 1912 though. Dutch family.

 

ARTHUR E. PUTMAN  Binghamton W1, Broome County

He is 33 NY NY NY and a painter. Rosina, his wife of 4 years (her second), is 35 NY. Also here is his widowed mother Maria 67 NY. He is a son of Julius and Mariah Putman from Oneida County. He and his mom were in Binghamton in 1900. He and Rose are in Ellicottville, Broome County in 1920. Dutch family from Montgomery and then Herkimer County.

 

CARNES PUTNAM  Binghamton W5, Broome County

He is 35 NY NY NY. Grace M. Jackson his wife of 5 years is 33 PA. Her brother Guy Jackson 17 PA is with them so that’s how I know her last name.  Hard to read the spelling of the name, but this looks like the Peter Putman who is in St. Lawrence County in 1920. If so, he is a son of John and Janette Putman from Macomb, St. Lawrence County.

 

CHARLES A. PUTNAM  Binghamton W5, Broome County

He is 46 NY NY NY and still widowed. He is a lineman for the railway. He was widowed here in 1900 with two daughters. Still no idea who he is.

 

ELIZA R. PUTNAM  Binghamton W9, Broome County

She is 38 PA PA NY single and boarding. She works in a shoe factory here in town.

 

FRANCIS H. PUTMAN  Binghamton W3, Broome County

He is now 72 NY NY NY and a lumberman. Mary his wife of just 2 years, second marriage for both, is 51 OH. She has her daughter Georgia Lee 14 OH with her.

 

FRANKLIN (WASHINGTON) PUTNAM  Binghamton W12, Broome County

He is 59 NY VT NY. Jane Blakely his wife of 28 years is now 53 CT. He is a son of Franklin Putnam and Esther Baker, and was born in Colesville, Broome County. Jane is widowed here in 1920.

 

FREDERICK W. PUTNAM  Binghamton W5, Broome County

He is 53 NY NY NY and a physician as he has been for decades. Mary Elizabeth Tubbs, his wife of 30 years is 51 NY. Still no kids. He is Dr. Frederick Wallace Putnam, a son of William Wallace Putnam and Philinda Pierce of Truxton, Cortland County, NY. They are here in 1920 and 1930 too.

 

HARRY A. PUTMAN  Binghamton W12, Broome County

He is 41 NY NY NY and single. He is a painter in a carriage shop. He lives with his sister Helen A. Hunt 33 NY and her husband William B. Hunt 34 NY. They are children of Frederick and Annie Putnam from Owego, Tioga County. Both were at home there in 1880, and gone from there in 1900. Harry will be back in Owego with his widowed mother in 1920.

 

REBECCA PUTNAM  Binghamton W7, Broome County

She is 60 (should be 66) NY NY NY and still widowed as she was in 1900 and will be in 1920. She runs a boarding house. The age is off but she should be the widow of Francis Putnam from Canada. They were here in 1880, and she was widowed here in 1910. By 1920, she is still here and the age then is perfect.

 

HAZEL & PRESCOTT PUTNAM  Chenango, Broome County

She is 17 NH NH NY and he is 3 NY NH NY. They are ‘boarding’ with Mary L. Jamison NY SCOT NY and widowed. These are kids of Willie E. Putnam and Nellie Weld from Claremont, New Hampshire. They were married in 1889 and there in New Hampshire in 1900. Obviously moved out here where Prescott was born. By 1920, Willie has married Mary and they are in Windham County, Vermont and Prescott is there with them. Interesting story I would guess.

 

DEVER PUTNAM  Colesville, Broome County

He is 37 NY NY NY, Louise his wife of 10 years is 27 NY and they have Arthur 7 NY. He is a son of David Henry Putnam and Jane E. Penney. He was shown here at home in Doraville in the 1880 and was just married here in 1900. In 1920, He is single with his sister Lena in Brooklyn, New York. Guess something happened. Don’t find either Louise or Arthur in 1920. Dever is also listed as ‘working out’ in Chenango County now in 1910.

 

EUGENE PUTNAM  Colesville, Broome County

He is 50 NY NY NY and still single. Eugene Alden is a son of Martin and Clarissa Putnam from here in Colesville.

 

CHARLES H.(HENRY) PUTMAN  Sanford, Broome County

He is 49 NY NY NY. Emma D. his wife of 25 years is now 49 NY, Frederick D. 18 NY and Arthur J. 16 NY. He is a son of Charles and Harriet Putnam. He was at home with them in 1880. They were in Deposit in 1900. Dutch family. This and the next three families were listed in Deposit in 1900, and in Sanford in 1910. I think the town changed its name.

 

CHARLES M. PUTMAN  Sanford, Broome County

He is 83 NY CT NY. He is still widowed and lives with his daughter Jessie 37 NY. He is a son of Jeremiah Putnam and Hannah Roe, and was in Sanford, Broome County in 1880 and with Jessie in Deposit in 1900. Dutch.

 

GEORGE W. PUTMAN  Sanford, Broome County

He is 22 NY NY NY and owns a seed store. Ida M. his wife of a year is 23 NJ. He is a son of Charles Henry and Emma Putman from Deposit. He was home there in 1900. In 1920, he and Ida are in Middletown, Orange County. Dutch.

 

WALTER J. PUTMAN  Sanford, Boone County

He is 44 NY NY NY and sells coal. Jennie M. Butler his wife of 20 years is 43 NY, Edward C. 19 NY and Florence E. 12 NY. He is a son of Charles M. Putnam and Harriet E. Burrows from here. Jennie is a daughter of Edward Oscar Butler and Martha Reynolds. She was born November 29, 1866. He and the family will all be in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1920 and then back here in 1930. Both he and Jennie will die here in 1936.

 

ALBERT D. PUTNAM  Allegany, Cattaraugus County

He is 54 PA PA PA and works in a flourmill. Mary his wife of 29 years is 58 NY, and Grace is 6 NY. He is a son of Valentine and Martha Putnam, and was home in Warren County, PA in 1860 and 1870, and here in 1900. His brother William is here in town too.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Allegany, Cattaraugus County

He is 39 PA PA PA and also works as a miller with his brother. Marguerite his wife of 20 years is 41 PA. He is William Warren Putnam, a son of Valentine Putnam and Martha Macress of Corry, Erie County, Pennsylvania and Warren County Pennsylvania before that. They were here in 1900.

 

ARTHUR PUTNAM  Ellicottville, Cattaraugus County

He is 38 NY NY NY and is a farmer. Rose his wife of 13 years is 34 NY. Also here are Ralph 12 NY, Ruth 11 NY, Dorothy 8 NY listed as nieces and nephew. They belong to his brother William who is here in 1920 with Ralph. Then on the next page, which I think is a continuation are Katherine Duhan or something listed as mother in law and a bunch of other ‘kinfolks.’ Anyway, Arthur is a son of Joseph and Jane Putnam from here in the County. Dutch folks.

 

FRED S. PUTNAM  Ellicottville, Cattaraugus County

He is 35 NY NY NY and is a teamster. Bertha E., his wife of 10 years, is 27 NY, and they have Marguerite 7 NY and Marie H. 5 NY. He is a son of Joseph and Jane Putnam from here in the County. Dutch folks. They are here in 1920 too.

 

JOSEPH M. PUTMAN  Franklinville, Cattaraugus County

He is 69 NY NY NY and runs a dairy farm. Grace his second wife of 18 years now is 53 NY. He is a son of John Putman and Mary Ann Leam and was born here in the County. Dutch folks.

 

FRANK PUTMAN  Humphrey, Cattaraugus County

He is 35 NY NY NY. He is single and works on the Armstrong farm. He will be married here in 1920. He is a son of Joseph Putman and his first wife Jane. He was born here and was at home here in 1900. Dutch family.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Humphrey, Cattaraugus County

He is 46 NY NY NY and is a farmer. Agnes Stewart, his wife of 23 years, is 41 CAN. Her widowed mother Agnes Stewart 77 IRE is still living with them as she was in 1900. They are here in 1920. He is a son of Joseph Putman and his first wife Jane. He was born here. Dutch family.

 

WILLIAM PUTMAN  Olean, Cattaraugus County

He is 35 NY GER NY. Elizabeth, his wife of 8 years, is 34 IRE, Howard 6 NY, Lydia 5 NY and William 2 NY. He works in an Iron Works. Don’t find them in 1920.

 

AMELIA PUTMAN  Perrysburg, Cattaraugus County

Amelia Woods is 75 NY VT VT. She is the widow of Allen Putnam. They had been in Chautauqua County in 1880 and she was widowed there in 1900. She is now living here with her sister Laura Morris 60 NY and her husband Samuel. She will die herself in 1912 and be buried back in Cassadaga along side Allen.

 

C. (CLARENCE) A. PUTNAM  Portville, Cattaraugus County

He is 21 NY NY NY and a salesman. Lula, his wife of a year is 25 IL and they have Viola J. 5/12 NY. He is a son of William Putnam and Emma Crane from here. They are in Knox County, Illinois in 1920 and then back here in 1926.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Portville, Cattaraugus County

He is 43 NY NY NY a runs a general store. Emma Crane, his wife of 21 years, is 45 NY, and Leon is 11 NY. Her widowed mother Julia Crane 80 NY is with them. He is a son of Nathaniel Woods Putman and Mary Louise Babcock from Wirt, Allegany County. They were here in 1900 and are here in 1920. Dutch family.

 

JESSIE PUTNAM  Randolph, Cattaraugus County

She is 16 PA PA PA and still in the Western New York Society for the Protection of homeless children. She was here in 1900 with her sister Dora. She is probably a child of Valentine Putnam’s son Grant. Two other sons are here, and Grant was last seen in 1880.

 

WILLIAM S. PUTNAM  Salamanca, Cattaraugus County

He is 44 NY NY NY and is an engineer for the Railroad. He states he is widowed. In 1920 he is here with a new wife. He is a son of Joseph and Jane Putman from here in the County.

 

CLYDE PUTMAN  South Valley, Cattaraugus County

He is 45 PA PA NY and is a blacksmith. Lucy Bennett, his wife of 24 years, is 44 NY, Esther 20 NY, Bennett 12 NY, Mildred 7 NY, Ruth 2/12 NY. They were in Chautauqua County in 1900 and earlier. He is a son of Mortimer Putnam and Mary Jane Osgood. They were here in 1900 and are here in 1920.

 

CHARLES H. (HAROLD) PUTMAN  Auburn W10, Cayuga County

He is 25 NY NY NY. Nina Lemmon, his wife of 6 years, is 24 NY. He is a son of Franklin and Alice Putman from here. He was home with them in 1900, and is here in 1920.

 

F. D. (FRANKLIN DAVID) PUTMAN  Auburn W7, Cayuga County

He is 58 NY NY NY. Alice Goodridge, his wife of 31 years is 52 NY NY NY. He is a physician, and has been a while. He is the son of David Dense Putman, and was at home in Venice, Cayuga County in 1860 and 1870, and just married in Locke in 1880. They were here in 1900, and Alice is widowed here in 1920 and 1930. Dutch folks.

 

ARTHUR PUTNAM  Brutus, Cayuga County

He is 48 NY NY NY. Crissie L. Burriet his wife of 23 years is 45 NY, Robert L. 21 NY, Raymond A. 19 NY, and Dora B. 17 NY are at home. Also still here is his widowed mother Abigail 92 NY. He is a son of Robert Putnam and Abigail Huntington. He was born in Brutus. New England Line. They are in Syracuse by 1920.

 

HARVEY A. PUTNAM  Brutus, Cayuga County

He is 76 NY NY NY and now widowed. His wife Electa Andrews has died in the past decade. He is a son of Asa Putnam and Louisa Storke from here in Brutus. He was born August 25, 1833 and married Electa Andrews February 12, 1857. They never had children.

 

JAY R. (REMMINGTON) PUTNAM  Brutus, Cayuga County

He is 34 NY NY NY and a druggist. He has just married Eva H. who is 28 NY. He is a son of Francis Putnam and Marietta Remington. He was born here, New England line.

 

WALLACE PUTMAN  Montezuma, Cayuga County

He is 27 NY NY NY single and working on a farm. He’ll still be single in Auburn in 1920. Best bet is that he is the son of Aaron Putman from Clayton, Jefferson County, but I’m really not at all certain.

 

J. (JAMES) NORMAN  PUTMAN  Sterling, Cayuga County

He is 44 PA PA PA and a farmer. Jennie B. his wife of 16 years is 45 NY, and they have a son Roy W. 14 NY, a nephew Kenneth Putman 25 NY and his wife of 2 years Emma 22 NY. Kenneth was with them in 1900, but being born in 1885, have no ideas as to his folks. He is a son of James Putnam and Elizabeth Darbyshire from Steuben County and then Yates County, NY. They were in Ontario County in 1900, and they, even Elizabeth, will be here in 1920.

 

CHARLES (HUNSICKER) PUTNAM  Venice, Cayuga County

He is 45 NY NY NY and a farmer. Effie A. DeLap his wife of 23 years is 43 NY, Edith 13 NY, Kenneth 10 NY, Murial 5 NY. Also here are his widowed mother Theresa Putnam 81 NY and Effie’s widowed mother Mary DeLap 83 NY, and his sister Lida 60 NY who is still single. He is a son of David Dence Putman and Theresa Hunsicker from here. Dutch family. He and Effie and Lida are all here in 1920.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Arkwright, Chautauqua County

He is 59 NY NY NY and is a dairy farmer. Hattie Palmer his wife of 14 years is 31 NY, Willis S. 13 NY and Gladys 9 NY. Then there is his dad Richmond Putnam 87 NY and widowed. He is a son of Richmond Putnam and Seba Barber from Stockton. Richmond is number 2889, a son of Abner Putnam and Vesta Mallory of Stockton and then here in 1900. Been here all his life. George and Hattie were here in 1900 and are here in 1920 with one more kid.

 

CARRIE PUTNAM  Charlotte, Chautauqua County

She is as ‘head’ and single, but no age is given. Very hard to read, may not be a Putnam at all.

 

EUGENE PUTNAM  Charlotte, Chautauqua County

He is 40 NY NY NY and married. Bad news is that he is a prisoner in the Chautauqua County Jail. The only guy ‘close’ was the Eugene who was married in Jamestown in 1900. That guy, nor his wife and kids are there now.

 

JOHN G. (GEORGE) PUTNAM  Charlotte, Chautauqua County

He is 61 NY VT MA. Esther, his wife of 35 years, is 68 NY and their daughter Ethel is 27 NY. They were in Lansingberg, Rensselaer County in 1880 and 1900. He is a piano tuner as he has been since the 1870s. He is a son of John Putnam and Sally Young from Chautauqua. He was home there in 1850. They are in Mayville, Chautauqua County in 1920 and 1930.

 

HARRY F. PUTNAM  Chautauqua, Chautauqua County

He is 38 PA UNK UNK. His wife of 18 years, Famicilla (Kate in 1900 and 1920) is 42 NY. They were in Celorn, Chautauqua County in 1900 and he was born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, and here in Chautauqua in 1880 with his folks                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          and Hattie Putnam. They are all here in 1920, even his folks who are listed shortly.

 

LEIGH W. PUTNAM  Chautauqua, Chautauqua County

He is 23 NY PA NY. Ruth, his wife of 4 years, is 19 NY. He is a son of the following Lewis and Harriet Putnam, and was born here. He and Ruth are here in 1920 and 1930.

 

LEWIS PUTNAM  Chautauqua, Chautauqua County

He is now 64 PA NY NY, and Harriet his wife of 43 years is 62 NY. He is a son of Lewis Putnam and Mary Ann Russell from Ellery, New York, then Crawford County, Pennsylvania. They have been here since the 1870s and will be in 1920.

 

MARVIN A. PUTMAN  Chautauqua, Chautauqua County

He is 53 NY NY NY and now widowed since his wife Harriet Shaddock has died. They were both in Jamestown in 1900. He is a butcher. He is a son of Royal Putnam (2845) and Almira Emery from Stockton. I don’t find him in 1920, but in 1930 he is across the border in Erie County Pennsylvania and still widowed at age 73. He is still in the meat and grocery business.

 

LUCILLA PUTNAM  Dunkirk, Chautauqua County

She is 68 MA. She is the widow of Harvey Putnam. They were in Butler County, Pennsylvania in 1880. Her daughter Emma 35 PA is still with her as she was in 1900 here, but has gotten a divorce and now uses the Putnam name. Emma’s daughter Harriet Shaw is now 13 NY. She is still here in 1920.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Ellery, Chautauqua County

He is 33 NY NY NY and is a manufacturer of feed mills. Mary Myth Cothrell, his wife of 13 years is 32 NY, Harold E. 12 NY and Katherine 4 NY. He is a son of Ephrom Putnam and Mary Gifford and was born here. In the 1880 he was listed as Benjamin, which is his middle name. They were here in 1900, and will be in Bemus Point in 1920. Mary will die in December 1921, and he will marry Edith Wilson September 14, 1922. Frank was born March 7, 1876 and will die here July 20, 1959. Edith was born January 14, 1889 and will die here July 5, 1946. The son Harold was born February 27, 1898 and will die February 19, 1920.

 

LORENZO PUTNAM  Ellery, Chautauqua County

He is 64 NY NY NY and a farmer. Sina Allen, his wife of 36 years, is 58 PA. His widowed mother Susan Carpenter Putnam 86 NY is living with them as she was in 1900. He is a son of Warren Putnam and Susannah Carpenter and was born here in Ellery in 1846 and will die here at age 89 in 1935. They are all here in 1920 and his mom is 98 then. Wow.

 

FLOYD PUTNAM  Ellicott, Chautauqua County

He is 21 NY NY NY and runs a dog and pony show in theaters. He is a son of Frank G. Putnam and Carrie Morely of Stockton, and great Grandson of Gilbert Putnam who came here ages ago. He will be in Cortland County in 1920, still single.

 

EDWIN PUTMAN  Ellington, Chautauqua County

He is 83 NY NY VT. Rose Wesley his wife of 36 years is now 70 NY. He is a son of Hiram Putnam and Zeruah Lawrence. He has been here forever, Rose is his second wife. They were here together in 1900, and Rose will be widowed here in 1920.

 

SALINA PUTNAM  Ellington, Chautauqua County

She is Salina Chapman, widow of Olvin S. Putnam who died in Ellington December 9, 1893, and is now 76 CT CT CT.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Hanover, Chautauqua County

He is 55 NY NY NY, Mary Ames, his wife of 31 years, is 53 NY. Their son Edwin is 30 NY and their daughter Harriet is 28 NY. He is a son of Edwin Putnam and his first wife Harriet Irons of Stockton. Both he and his son are physicians. They are here again in 1920, and Edwin will be married by then.

 

MYLO P. PUTNAM  Harmony, Chautauqua County

He is 42 PA NY PA, Jenny Young his wife of 22 years is 39 PA. He is the son of John and Fidelia Putman of Steuben, Warren County, Pennsylvania. They were in Warren County in 1900. They are back in Erie County, Pennsylvania in 1920 and 1930.

 

EDGAR P. (PIERPONT) PUTNAM  Jamestown W1, Chautauqua County

He is 65 NY NY VT. He is living with his second wife of 32 years M. Effie 67 NY. He is a son of James Rogers Putnam and a grandson of Gilbert Putnam number 2840. He was born in Stockton, Chautauqua County May 4, 1844. He served in the NY Cavalry in the Civil War, and won the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was in Goodhue County, Minnesota in 1870 as a government surveyor. He was married to Angelina E. Lewis who died there about 1875.  He came back here in 1875 and ran a book business. He is the Postmaster here in Jamestown. They got overlooked in 1900, but pretty sure he was here then too. They are here in 1920 too.

 

GEORGE F. (FLETCHER) PUTNAM  Jamestown W3, Chautauqua County

He is 47 MN NY NY and an assembler at a metal shop. Estelle Stewart, his wife of 21 years, is 47 NY and their son Leo D. is now 20 ND and still single. He is a son of William Putnam and Elizabeth Ann Ingersol, and was born in Wabasha County, Minnesota. His folks were originally from Vermont and then New York. He went to Harlem, North Dakota in the late 1880s with his uncle William Weaver and wife Lucretia Putnam Weaver to try ranching. He was back here by 1900 and will still be in 1920.

He is now 64 NY VT VT and drives a trolley for the city. Laura Hiller, his wife of 26 years, is 58 NY. Also here are their son George H. 24 NY and his brand new wife Rivina H. 18 NY. Also here is Ruth Griffin 14 CT. Laura was previously married to a Griffin and this is her granddaughter. He is a son of Aaron Davis Putnam (3356) and Abigail Howard Larkin of Charlotte, Chautauqua County. Horace was born in 1826 and will die in 1918. Laura will be widowed here in 1920. Laura was born in 1850 and will die in 1932.

 

LEWIS A. PUTNAM  Jamestown W6, Chautauqua County

He is 32 NY VT NY, and Hilma Lundwall his wife of 10 years is 30 NY. They live with her mother Amelia Lundwall 71 SWED. They were living together here in 1900. By 1920 there will be a divorce, and Lewis will have a new young wife. He is a son of Davis Oscar Putnam and Flora Augusta Andrews. He was with his folks in 1880 here in Jamestown.

 

SPENCER S. PUTNAM  Jamestown W2, Chautauqua County

He is 47 PA NY NY and now widowed. He is a fireman at an electric plant. He is a son of Lewis Putnam and Mary Ann Russell. He was born in Crawford County, PA and was married in 1900 in McKean County, Pennsylvania. He will have a new wife and be with her in Buffalo, New York in 1920 and 1930. His two sons are now in Denver, Colorado.

 

WILLIAM D. (DAVIS) PUTNAM  Jamestown W1, Chautauqua County

He is 30 NY NY OH single and boarding. He is a newspaper reporter here. He is a son of Jessie Putnam and Harriet Brown from Fredonia. He was at home there in 1900.

 

CHARLES R. (RAYMOND) PUTNAM  Poland, Chautauqua County

He is 23 NY NY NY and is a cabinetmaker in a furniture factory. Fern Campbell, his wife of a year is 28 SCOT SCOT SCOT, and their son Charles C. (Campbell) is 3/12 NY. Also here is her widowed mother Sophronia Campbell 68 NY (?). He is a son of Frank G. Putnam and Caroline Morley from Stockton. They’ll be in Jamestown in 1920.

 

CORNELIA A. PUTNAM  Pomfret, Chautauqua County

Cornelia Maynard is now 63 WI MA NY. She is the widow of Albert L. Putnam. Albert was a son of Aaron L. and Almira Putnam. He was born here February 19, 1843. He married Cornelia in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 30, 1869. He died here January 26, 1890. They were here in 1880. She was widowed here in 1900 and will be still in 1920. Her daughter Adelaide is 34 NY and son Albert L. (Junior) is 28 NY.

 

HERBERT J. PUTNAM  Pomfret, Chautauqua County

He is 68 NY MA MA and still widowed. He is a real estate agent. Kate L. 32 NY, Harriet E. 29 NY, Herbert N. 19 NY, and John B. 17 NY are still at home. He is a son of Nathan Bancroft Putnam and Almira Beaman from here. He was married to Laura Hale who has died.

 

HOWARD M. (MATTISON) PUTNAM  Pomfret, Chautauqua County

He is 36 NY NY NY and works in a drug store. Lucy Ann, his wife of 10 years, is 40 PA. He is a son of Jesse Putnam and Harriet Brown. He was born right here, and will be here in 1920. Never had any kids.

 

JESSIE A. PUTNAM  Pomfret, Chautauqua County

He is 72 NY VT VT and a florist. Harriet E. Brown, his wife of 43 years is 63 NY and her mother Harriet A. Brown 87 NY is living with them. Harriet will be widowed here by 1920. He is a son of Aaron Davis (3356) and Abigail Howard Putnam. He was born here January 25, 1838.

 

LEON & CLIFFORD PUTNAM  Pomfret, Chautauqua County

Leon C. is 21 NY NY NY and his brother Clifford M. is 20 NY NY NY. They live with their mother Hattie D. (Lutgen) 41 NY and her husband of 10 years Dexter Medbury 43 NY. Hattie was married to Fred S. Putnam from Stockton. Both had remarried by 1900. The two boys will be in Toledo, Ohio by 1920. Hattie will probably still be here and their dad will be on wife number three here in 1920.

 

MARY F. PUTNAM  Pomfret, Chautauqua County

She is 64 VT VT VT and has her adopted daughter Charlotte Landers 38 VT still with her. She is Mary Frances McDonald, widow of Aaron O. Putnam. They were here in 1880, and earlier. Aaron was born here, a son of Aaron L. and Almira Putnam.

He is 33 NY NY NY, Bertha J. his wife of 11 years is 33 PA, Avis L. a daughter 9 NY, Gertrude E. 8 NY and Clyde C. 8/12 NY. He is a son of Corydon Putnam and Sally Matthewson of Stockton. He and Bertha were in Stockton in 1900, and will be in Erie County, Pennsylvania by 1920.

He is 29 MO US US. Lillian A. his wife of 5 years is 29 CO and they have a son Neil 1 6/12 NY. Not a clue here.

She is 42 NY NY NY and widowed. Again, not a clue as I don’t find her in 1900. She is here in Fredonia in 1930.

 

FAY (FAYETTE) W. PUTNAM  Stockton, Chautauqua County

He is 42 NY NY NY and a farmer. Belle Hotchkiss his wife of 19 years is 41 NY, and their daughter Annette is 2 NY. Also here is his widowed mother Annette 68 NY. He is a son of Delos Putnam and Annette Schofield from here in Stockton. He and Belle were living at home with them in 1900. Everyone will still be here in 1920. He was born here in Stockton February 17, 1868, and will die here January 24, 1937. Belle will die August 18, 1938.

 

FRED S. PUTNAM  Stockton, Chautauqua County

He is 45 NY NY NY and a dairy farmer. He is on his second marriage of ten years to Adda E. Scott 30 NY and her daughter Clara Scott 13 NY. He is a son of Charles Putnam and Mary Ann Haig of Stockton. Addie is a second wife. He was first married to Hattie Lutgen of Stockton. Addie will die in 1912 and he’ll be here with another wife by the time we get to 1920. His two sons Leon and Clifford are living with the mother Hattie and her husband Dexter Medbury in Pomfret now

He is 43 NY NY NY and a farmer. Susannah, his wife of 18 years, is 42 ENG, Ellen M. 15 NY, Margaret H. 15 NY, Ann M. 11 NY and Lorimer A. 9 NY. He is a son of Allen Putnam and his second wife Marilla Smith of Stockton. They are all here still in 1920.

She is 35 NY NY NY and widowed. She is a music teacher and lives with her parents Allan and Ruth Waterman. No ideas, as she wasn’t shown married here in 1900.

 

MURRAY PUTNAM  Stockton, Chautauqua County

He is 53 NY NY NY and a farmer. His wife of 20 years Martha M. Roberts is 57 NY and her brother Porter Roberts 65 NY is with them. He is a son of Royal Putnam and Almira Emery from Stockton. They are here in 1920. He was born in 1856 and will die in 1929. Martha was born in 1852 and will also die in 1929.

 

WILLIAM S. PUTNAM  Stockton, Chautauqua County

He is 23 NY NY NY and a dairy farmer. Lillian M. Waterman his wife of 4 years is 22 NY, and their son Donald G. is 1 NY. He is a son of George F. Putnam and Myra Eliza Crissey of here in Stockton. They are here with a couple more kids in 1920.

 

CORYDON K. PUTNAM  Westfield, Chautauqua County

He is 78 NY MA MA. Celetsia S. (Sally) Matthewson his wife of 39 years is now 65 NY. Also here are their son Benjamin F. 20 NY and his brand new wife Ellen A. Beckman 24 NY.  He was born in 1831 and will die in 1917. Sally will be widowed by 1920 and be living with Benjamin and his family. In 1930 she is 86 and living with her married daughter Blanche Shortman and her family.

 

ISREAL PUTNAM  Elmira, Chemung County

He is 19 CT OH NJ, and Maggie Fuller his wife of 2 years is 17 NY. He is a bookkeeper. He is obviously a son of the following Israel and Florence Putnam. In 1920 his wife is here listed as Maria and has two kids including a son named Israel born in 1910 or 1911, and they are all living with her father John Fuller. Must have been a divorce. I don’t find Israel in 1920, but he is remarried to a woman named Ethel and they are in Bradford County Pennsylvania in 1930.

 

ISRAEL PUTNAM  Elmira, Chemung County

He is 47 OH OH OH and an optician. Florence Somerby, his wife of 26 years is 46 NJ, Georgiana 25 CT, Ruth D. 20 CT, Charles S. 15 CT and Dorothy 13 CT. Interesting. He is a son of Peter Radcliff Putnam (3248) and Emily Mixer, and was born in Marietta, Ohio. His dad died in 1863. He and his brother Abbott ended up in Connecticut by the 1870 census. His brother was listed in Litchfield County through the 1900, but I haven’t seen Israel since then. He obviously was in Connecticut though. Abbott has also just appeared in New York and is in Steuben County, and will be in 1920 too. He and Florence are still here in 1920, but he lists himself as John Putnam then.

 

DEVER PUTMAN  Afton, Chenango County

He is 37 NY NY NY and says he has been married for 11 years, but his wife Louisa isn’t here. He is working on the Whitney farm. He and Louisa are also listed in Colesville, Broome County at this time. He is a son of David Henry Putnam and Jane E. Penney. He was shown at home in Doraville, Boone County in the 1880, and was married to Louise Parsons there in 1900. In 1920 though he is shown alone living with his sister Lena in Brooklyn, New York. And in 1930 he is back in Broome County and then says he is widowed.

 

NANCY PUTNAM  Beekmantown, Clinton County

She is 63 NY NY NY and widowed. She is in the Clinton County Poor House and will be here still in 1920. I would guess she was the one who was in the St. Lawrence County State Hospital in 1900.

 

ARCH PUTNAM  Peru, Clinton County

He is 58 NY NY VT, a farmer. Lucinda Whitney his wife of 35 years is 58 NY. Also here their son Herman 31 NY, Libbie (Elizabeth Disco), his wife of 9 years, is 27 NY, Lola 7 NY and Floyd 6/12 NY. Archelaus is a son of Aaron Putnam and Jane Ormsby, and was born here in Peru. They are all here again in 1920.

 

ARTHUR PUTNAM  Peru, Clinton County

He is 64 NY NY NY and a farmer. Emma Jane Andrews, his wife of 44 years is 65 NY. They have a niece Ida Andrews 15 NY with them. As they never had any kids, Ida is probably related to Emma. He is another son of Aaron Putnam and Jane Ormsby, and was born here in Peru. Emma will be widowed here in 1920.

 

MELVIN PUTNAM  Peru, Clinton County

Yet another son of Aaron Putnam and Jane Ormsby. Melvin is 60 NY NY VT and a house carpenter. Elizabeth Ormsby his wife of 39 years is now 64 NY. They have a nephew with them, Clayton Lamay 11 NY. There are also three Ormsby families living next door. Kinfolk.

 

FRED PUTNAM  Plattsburgh, Clinton County

He is 12 NY NY NY and listed as a servant with a Houghton Family. There are also several other kids lised as servants and a Mary Hayes who is a teacher. Maybe kind of a foster home or something. At any rate he is a son of Melvin and Lissa Putnam. He was at home here with them in 1900, and they are missing now.

 

SARAH A. PUTNAM  Schuyler Falls, Clinton County

She is 71 NY and widowed. She is living with her brother William H. Ayers 80 NY and her sister Amy Ayers 73 NY. She was married to Ephraim Putnam here in 1870 and has been on her own ever since. In 1880, she was here and Ephraim was in New Hampshire. I think she is divorced rather than widowed. Vanity I guess.

 

WARREN PUTNAM  Dannemora, Clinton County

He is 29 NY NY SC. He is a prisoner at the Clinton State Prison. Best guess is that he is a son of Warren and Sophia Putnam. He was 5 months old in 1880 in Rochester, and I haven’t seen him since. For what it’s worth, there is a Harold Putman serving time here in 1920. Warren will be married to an Agnes in Buffalo by 1920.

 

ALFRED D. PUTNAM  Hudson W3, Columbia County

He is 50 NY NY NY and operates a furniture store. AntoinetteWoodrick his wife of 31 years is 50 NY, Edith N. 28 NY, Clarence E. 25 NY, Carl A. 23 NY, Lloyd H. 21 NY, Harry A. 18 NY, Mabel G. 12 NY and Aline L. 4 NY. They were here in 1900. He should be a son of John Peter Putman and Sarah Whitlock of Ephratah, Fulton County. ‘Nettie’ will be widowed here in 1920. Their son Clarence is also listed shortly with his own family.

 

CLARENCE E. PUTNAM  Hudson W5, Columbia County

He is 26 NY NY NY and is a foreman at a cement company. Hattie, his wife of 7 years, is 24 NY and they have Gilbert A. 5 NY, Sherwood R. 4 NY and Antoinette L. 2 NY. He is a son of the above Alfred and Nettie Putnam, and for some reason is also listed there with them.

 

HOWARD B. PUTNAM  Hudson W3, Columbia County

He is now 60 CT VT CT and still a music teacher. Kate Layman his wife of 28 years is 53 NY, and Ethel is 26 NY. Also here is Kate’s widowed father Allaman Layman 79 NY. He is a son of Luke Spencer Putnam (1188) and Emeline Tompkins. He was born in Woodbury, Connecticut. They are here in 1920 too.

 

AMANDA J. PUTNAM  Cuyler, Cortland County

She is 80 NY NH NY and widowed. She lives with her widowed daughter Alta E. Sutton 56 NY and grandson Frank Sutton 28 NY. She was in Oswego County in 1880 and 1870 and in Cayuga County in 1860. No idea as to her husband. She was with her daughter Alta Sutton and grandson Frank in Syracuse, Onondaga County in 1900.

 

LIBBIE PUTMAN  Homer, Cortland County

She is 53 NY NY NY, widowed and boarding here as she was in 1900 and will be in 1920.

 

ALBERT J. PUTMAN  Truxton, Cortland County

He is 23 NY NY NY and a farmer. Betsy Harden, his wife of 2 years is 22 NY. Her widowed father Charles Harden 69 NY is living here with them. He was listed with the following Emma here in 1900 and is her son.

 

EMMA J. PUTMAN  Truxton, Cortland County

She is 40 NY NY NY and says she is married for 28 years. She is listed as a housekeeper with Ernest F. Nye 38 NY and his son Jay Nye 8 NY. She was with him and three kids of hers here in 1900, but he was listed as the kids’ stepfather. Now she is using her Putman name. Her husband was Eugene Putman from here in Truxton.

 

JAMES H. PUTNAM  Sidney, Delaware County

He is 65 NY NY NY. Anna Minerva Moore, his wife of 39 years, is 66 NY and their daughter Sadie A. is 22 NY. He is a son of Phillip Putnam and Catherine Keller. He has been in neighboring Otsego County since he was born, but has recently moved a few miles north into Delaware County. His folks were from Montgomery County. This is a Dutch line and his parents were the first ones to use the Putnam spelling.

 

LAURA PUTNAM  Amenia, Dutchess County

She is 80 NH and still has her daughter Kate 53 NY and her husband Henry Conklin 53 NY and granddaughter Lizzie Conklin 12 NY with her. Laura Submit Hall is the widow of John Woodbury Putnam (2758), a son of John Putnam (1235) and Almira French of Croydon, New Hampshire. John died here February 2, 1897. Don’t know when Laura will die, but it’ll be in the next 10 years.

 

FREDERICK L. PUTNAM  Fishkill, Dutchess County

He is a single black man, 44 NY SC UNK, and is an inmate at the Matteawan State Hospital.

 

EMMA PUTNAM  Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County

She is 54 CAN (NS actually). She is a physician in the Hudson River State Hospital as she was in 1900.

 

ALPHA PUTNAM  Buffalo W4, Erie County

She is now the widow of John M. Putman from here in Buffalo. They were here together in 1900. She is now 51 PA and her daughter Verna 20 PA. They live with her other daughter Violet E. 28 PA and her husband of two years Jalette Weisman 35 NY.

 

ARTHUR W. PUTNAM  Buffalo W22, Erie County

He is 47 NY NY NY and a switchman for the railroad. Mary Serviss, his wife of 27 years is 46 NY, Bert C. 24 NY, Harold W. 16 NY, Marian 14 NY. Also here is their daughter Grace 21 NY, her husband Barton Sawyer 24 OH and their daughter Marian 1 NY. He is a son of Peter and Margaret Putman of Johnstown, Fulton County, New York. Dutch. They were here in 1900 and are still in 1920 and 1930. In fact his widowed mother Margaret is with them in 1920 at age 85.

He is now 50 NY NY NY and a foreman for an express Company. Lottie (Charlotte Kring) his wife of 19 years now, is 48 NY, Lee J. is 16 NY, Warren M. 14 NY and Henrietta 12 NY. He is a son of Peter and Margaret Putman of Canajoharie, Montgomery County. Dutch family. They were here in 1900 and he is widowed here in 1920 and the kids are all over the place.

He is 47 NY GER NY, his wife Harriet H. is 42 NY and their son James H. is 14 NY. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920 and 1930 as well.

He is 26 NY NY NY and a trainman for the railroad like his dad. Jennette Heath his wife of 4 years is 24 NY and young Everett is 2 NY. Her widowed mother Frances A. Heath 61 NY is living with them. He is a son of the above Arthur and Mary Putnam. He was at home in 1900 and will be here still in 1920 and 1930.

He is 51 NY NY NY. Mattie A. Felt, his wife of 29 years is 48 NY. They live with her sister Grace and her husband John Orr. They are all still here in 1920. Frank is widowed by 1930. He is a son of John and Betsy Putnam and was born in Java, Wyoming County. He married Mattie December 30, 1880 in Strykersville, Wyoming County.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Buffalo W22, Erie County

He is 61 PA VT NY and a mechanical engineer. Emma Jane Haworth, his wife of 31 years is 55 CAN. He is a son of Jonas and Sophia Putnam of Tioga County, Pennsylvania. He was shown there at home in 1850. They were here in 1900, but I don’t find them in 1920.

 

GEORGE A. PUTNAM  Buffalo W22, Erie County

He is 32 NY NY NY and a butcher. Maud R. his wife of 7 years is 30 CAN. He was single here in 1900 and will still be here in 1920.

 

HARRIETT O. PUTNAM  Buffalo W23, Erie County

She is 64 NY NY NY and single. Her sister Kate E. 53 NY NY NY and also single is with her. They are kids of James Osborne Putnam who died here in 1909 after a great career overseas. They were at home with their dad in 1900. In 1920 and 1930 they will be here along with their brother Harvey who is currently in the State Insane Asylum here now, but will be out soon.

 

HARVEY W. PUTNAM  Buffalo W19, Erie County

He is 47 FRA NY VT and a patient in the Buffalo State Hospital. Actually he was born in the U. S. Consulate in Harve. He is a son of James Osborne and his second wife Kate Wright. He was born while his dad was U. S. Consul at Havre and then Minister to Belgium in the 1880s. He was with his dad in 1900, and then James died in 1903. Harvey and some sisters will all be here in 1920.

 

HERBERT D. PUTNAM  Buffalo W17, Erie County

He is 36 NY NY NY and is a livestock dealer. Rosamond E. Craw, his wife of just 2 years, is 26 MI. He is a son of Hartson Putnam and Roselle Quance from Genesee County. He was living with his first wife Nettie at his grandparents in Batavia in 1900, and then came out here. He married Rosamond in Welland, Ontario on May 2, 1908. They are here still in 1920 and in 1930.

 

JACOB PUTNAM  Buffalo W9, Erie County

He is 46 CAN CAN CAN and is a railroad engineer on a locomotive. Minnie Robinson his wife of 25 years is 50 CAN, Harry 24 CAN, Walter 21 NY, Elsie 17 NY. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920 too. He is a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Bouey from Niagara, Niagara County, Ontario. Dutch family.

He is 50 NY NY VT and is a physician as he has been. Caroline Graves, his wife of 21 years now, is 45 NY. Their sons James Osborne 20 NY, John Graves 17 NY and Roger Wright 12 NY are with them. They are here in 1920 and in 1930. James Wright is a son of James Osborne Putnam and Kate Wright from here in Buffalo.

She is 42 NY and single. She is a patient in the Buffalo State Hospital for the Insane, and will be here in 1920 and 1930 as well. She is the daughter of Thomas Putnam and Colonette Simmons from here in Erie County. She was at home with them in 1900.

 

MARY PUTMAN  Buffalo W4, Erie County

She is 60 CAN, and widowed after 29 years of marriage. She has Katherine E. 28 CAN, John W. 26 CAN and Sarah C. 20 CAN with her. She is Mary Jane Bouey the widow of Jacob Putman from Niagara, Ontario. They were there in the 1881 and that’s the latest Canadian Census I have. The Jacob Putman here in Buffalo is a son of her Jacob’s brother Henry Putman.

 

RUSSELL PUTNAM  Buffalo W25, Erie County

He is 30 NY PA CAN. Agatha G. Noonan, his wife of 5 years, is 29 NY, Dorothy M. 4 NY, Eliza N. (Noreen) 2 NY and Robert N. 4/12 NY. They live with her folks Patrick and Elizabeth Noonan. He is a son of George S. and Emma Putnam from here, and was home with his folks in 1880 listed as George R. His dad was from Tioga County, Pennsylvania and his mother from Ontario, Canada, so it all fits. Agatha is widowed here in 1920 and 1930 with these kids and two more, the last one born in 1914. Wonder if Russell died in WWI.

He is 73 NY NY NY and now widowed since Emily has died since 1900. He is a son of Henry Putnam. Born here, here all his life.

He is 23 NY NY NY and a foreman at a flourmill. Ida, his brand new wife is 21 NY. Also here is his widowed father Danford Putman, listed as Daniel 44 NY, but is actually 54 NY. They were here in 1900 and Danford will be married to a new gal Caroline here in 1920. I don’t find William or Ida in 1920. Dutch family.

He is 29 PA PA PA, single and in a hotel. He works as a lineman for the telegraph company. He is a son of Luman Putnam and Alice Morley from Bradford County Pennsylvania. He is also listed back there now with his widowed mother.

 

FRANK B. L. PUTNAM  Eden, Erie County

He is 42 NY NY NY and a farmer. Lillian Webster his wife of 14 years is 36 NY and Edwin their son is 13 NY. Her widowed mother Mary Webster 74 NY is with them. Best guess is that he is the son of Henry and Jane Putman from Niagara County. They were in Yates County in 1900 and in 1920 Lillian is widowed in Genesee County.

 

IDA PUTNAM  Marilla, Erie County

She is 60 NY and widowed now that her husband James Putnam has died. She is still living with her daughter Mary 35 NY and her husband William Frey 36 NY. They were all here in 1900. James was son of William and Mary Ann Putnam. He was in Alden, Erie County in 1850 and 1860, and here in 1870 and 1880.

She is 70 NY and widowed. She lives with her daughter Martha 42 NY and her husband William H. Sofer 49 NY. Ellen Hinckley is now the widow of Arthur Putnam. They were in Willsboro in 1900 and had William and Mattie with them then. Arthur was a son of Daniel Porter Putnam from Willsboro.

Alexander is 28 NY US NY and a trainman on the railroad. Blanche E. Maple his wife of 7 years is 22 NY. They have Winnifred B. 6 NY, and sons Cassius A. 3 NY, Maple L. 2 and Kenneth 1/12 NY. He is a son of Henry James Putnam and Maria Groff from Port Henry. He was home here in 1900 and will be in 1920. Blanche will die in 1917 or 1918, but he and more kids will be there.

 

CHARLES H. (HENRY) PUTNAM  Moriah, Essex County

He is 26 NY VT NY and is a fireman on a locomotive for the railroad. Maud G. Maple, his wife of just 1 year, is 29 NY. His sister Laura Burlingame 23 NY and his widowed grandfather William Groff 90 CAN are with him. They live with his parents Henry and Maria Groff Putnam.

 

HENRY J. (JAMES) PUTNAM  Moriah, Essex County

He is now 61 VT CAN VT and a house carpenter. Maria L. Groff, his wife of 38 years now, is 57 NY and their son Alvin is 19 NY. His son Charles lives with him and his son William lives next door. He is a son of Stephen Putnam and Rosella Charles. Stephen was from Canada. They were here in 1880. Henry will die March 18, 1918. Maria will be widowed here in 1920.

 

WILLIAM S. PUTNAM  Moriah, Essex County

He is 35 NY NY and a brakeman for the railroad. Hattie Sanders, his wife of 6 years is 28 NY. This is her second marriage, as she was married to a Gilbo guy before. Her widowed father Ira Sanders 75 NY is with them. He is a son of Henry and Maria and was born here. Something will happen and in 1920 and 1930 he will be married to Mabel in nearby Ticonderoga.

 

JOHN C. PUTNAM  Moriah (Port Henry Village), Essex County

He is 31 NY VT NY and a house carpenter. Bertha E. Burlingame, his wife of 8 years, is 23 NY, Crosby J. 7 NY, Ruth M. 5 NY, Charles J. 3 NY and Arthur 4/12 NY. He is another son of Henry James Putnam and Maria Groff from Port Henry. They are all here in 1920.

 

JOSEPHINE PUTMAN  Moriah (Port Henry Village), Essex County

She is still widowed and is 55 NY CAN CAN and her son George is 29 NY. They live with her widowed brother William Segar 45 NY. She is the widow of John Putnam, and then a widow of his brother Charles. They were here since 1870. John and Charles were sons of Stephen Putnam and Rosella Charles from Franklin County, Vermont. She was in Port Henry in 1900.

He is 34 NY NY NY and he is a barber. Cora, his wife of 14 years, is 35 NY. They have Florence L. 13 NY and Howard W. 6 NY. He is a son of Charles Putnam and Josephine Seger and was born here. They are here in 1920.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  North Elba, Essex County

He is 18 NY NY NY single and boarding. He is a steamfitter in a locomotive plant. He looks to be the son of Willard Putman and Olive Hastings from St. Lawrence County.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  North Elba, Essex County

He is 39 NY NY NY and operates a grocery store. Phebe his wife of 20 years is 38 NY, Frederick 16 NY, William 6 NY and Lindsey 4 NY. He is a son of Aaron and Catherine Putman from Fulton County. Dutch. They were in Saranac Lake, Franklin County in 1900 and are here in 1920 and 1930.

 

ANNIE PUTNAM  St. Armand, Essex County

She is 14 VT VT VT. She lives with her mother Hattie 40 VT, and her new husband of one year Oren Otis 62 NY. This is a second marriage for both. Hattie McClure was married to Safford Luther Putnam, a son of Joel Putnam and Esther Howe, in Cambridge, Lamoille County Vermont. He died there October 14, 1898. Hattie and Annie were boarding in Cambridge, Vermont in 1900.

 

CZAR PUTNAM  Ticonderoga, Essex County

He is 50 NY NY NY and a farmer. Maria, his second wife of four years, is 39 NY, Mary 15 NY and Henry 13 NY. He is a son of Adam and Pauline Putnam, and was born in Hague, Warren County. He was there in 1900 with his first wife Agnes. In 1920 they are in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

 

CHARLES A. PUTNAM  Altamont, Franklin County

He is 57 NY CT VT and a foreman in a sawmill. Julia, his wife of 35 years is 57 NY, and they have Frank 19 NY, Warren 17 NY. They were in Warren County in 1880 and 1900.

 

HIRAM A. (AUGUSTUS) PUTNAM  Malone, Franklin County

He is 52 NY NY NY and runs a general store. His second wife Carrie is 40 NY NY NY, Edward 16 NY and Catherine L. 14. NY. His widowed mother Mary M. 74 NY is still with him as she was in 1900. He and Carrie and the kids are here in 1920 and then she is widowed here in 1930. He is a son of Edward Augustus Putnam and Mary Janet DeMontfredy of Syracuse.

 

LEWIS H. PUTMAN  Santa Clara, Franklin County

He is 53 NY NY NY and listed as being in his second marriage. He is listed as a ‘servant’ along with a zillion others in a boarding house. He is a teamster. He is an adopted son of Israel Putnam and Jane Corwin from Hopkinton, St. Lawrence County. His original name was Sidney Blue. He was married to Emma Flanders there in 1880 and 1900. He is still by himself and boarding in St. Lawrence County in 1920.

 

RICHARD PUTNAM  Waverly, Franklin County

He is 30 CAN CAN CAN and boarding. He works in a lumber mill. He isn’t in the Canadian 1881 census, so no ideas.

 

FRANK PUTMAN  Broadalbin, Fulton County

He is 44 NY NY NY and a farmer. Amy Johnson, his wife of 24 years, is 43 NY, and they have Hazel 16 NY. He is a son of Stephen Putman and Sarah Ann Herrick from Florida, Montgomery County. He was at home there in 1870 and 1880, and here in 1910. His folks are here too and they were also here in 1900. They are in Amsterdam, Montgomery County in 1920 and 1930.

 

MARTIN PUTMAN  Broadalbin, Fulton County

He is 59 NY NY NY and works in a knitting mill. Anna, his wife of 25 years is 53 NY and their son John Leslie is 15 NY. He is a son of George Aaron Putman and Rebecca Voorhes from Mohawk, Montgomery County. They were in Gloversville in 1900. Don’t find any of them in 1920.

 

STEPHEN PUTMAN  Broadalbin, Fulton County

He is 68 NY NY NY and retired. Sarah Ann Herrick his wife of 47 years is 66 NY. He is a son of David Putman and Nancy Dodds from Saratoga County. He married Sarah in Amsterdam, Montgomery County on November 4, 1862. They were here in 1900 and back in Florida, Montgomery County before that. I don’t find either in 1920.

 

ANDREW PUTMAN  Ephratah, Fulton County

He is 38 NY NY CAN and he works in a lumber mill. Henrietta his wife of 20 years is 38 NY, Clyde 19 NY, William 15 NY are with him. He is a son of John and Carrie Putman. He was born Johnstown, and with them in 1880. He and Henrietta were there in 1900.

 

ALICE PUTMAN  Gloversville W1, Fulton County

She is 8 NY NY NY and lives with her uncle Andrew Something, probably Cole like her mother. Can’t read it. At any rate she is with her folks George and Gazina Putman here in Gloversville now and in 1920. They are listed next.

 

DELBERT M. PUTMAN  Gloversville W6, Fulton County

He is 42 NY NY NY and is a stone mason. Jennie B. his wife of 16 years is 30 NY, Charles L. 14 NY, Hazel M. 11 NY. Then there is a listing for ‘father’ James L. Putman 83 NY is living with them. Adelbert is a son of William Brower Putman and his first wife Mary Germain from Montgomery County. He was there in 1870 and 1880. He and Jennie were here in 1900 and will still be in 1920. So, the James is not his father, but might be Jennie’s. Another choice is this is his uncle James Lansing who is right for this age. In 1900 James was living with Adelbert’s folks back in Glen, Montgomery County.

 

FRANK R. PUTNAM  Gloversville W6, Fulton County

He is 35 NY NY NY and a clerk in a factory. Joanna M. Hart, his wife of 11 years, is 31 NY, and they have Lewis S. 10, Roy 8 NY, Gladys M. 5 NY and Clarence H. 3 NY. Her widowed mother, Rebecca Hart 68 is with them. He is a son of James and Sarah Putman of Gloversville. They were nearby in Broadalbin in 1900. Joanna will be widowed here by 1920 and in Erie County by 1930.

She is 48 NY FRA ENG and now listed as widowed and by herself. Her name is Frances and she was married to Fred Oscar Putman here in 1900. He was a son of Richard Putman and Celia Smith of Johnstown.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Gloversville W1, Fulton County

He is 33 NY NY NY. His wife of 13 years Gazina Cole is 34 NY, Helen 11 NY, Alice 9 NY and Dorothy 5 NY. They were in Northville in 1900 and are here still in 1920. He is a son of Simon Wellington Putman and Alice Francena Hadley. He was born in Fonda, Montgomery County, and married Gazina here in Fulton County in 1897. He will die in Montgomery County in 1957.

 

GILES B. PUTMAN  Gloversville W2, Fulton County

He is 54 NY NY NY and is a miller. Catherine Reid his wife of 31 years is 52 NY, and they have their daughter Ethel 22 NY and her husband George Lawrence 24 NY and their daughter Helen 2 NY with them. He is a son of John Henry Putman and Caroline McGregor of Johnstown. They were here in 1880 and will be in 1920.

 

HATTIE & IRMA PUTMAN  Gloversville W1, Fulton County

Hattie is 28 NY NY NY and Irma is 25 NY NY NY. They are boarding with Rachel and Mary Jane Smith. In 1900, Hattie was here with Mary Jane, and Irma was with William H. Sism, and in 1920 they are here boarding with Malachi Nolan. Since they were born after the 1880, I have no clue as to their folks.

 

HOWARD D. PUTMAN  Gloversville W2, Fulton County

He is 21 NY NY NY and works in a leather factory. Actually he is a skinner, which doesn’t sound that great. He is a son of John Peter Putman and Amelia Cooper’s son Japhet and his wife Frances from Mohawk, Montgomery County. He will be married in Johnstown by 1930.

 

JENNIE PUTMAN  Gloversville W6, Fulton County

She is 33 NY NY NY Single and boarding. She lives with Charles and Rita Stewart as she did in 1900. She is a daughter of Gideon Putman from here in Gloversville. She is still here in 1920 with Charles Stewart.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  Gloversville W2, Fulton County

He is 42 NY NY NY and a bartender in a saloon. Anna Amanda Lee his wife of 18 years now is 41 NY, and Ruth 1 NY. He is a son of William Putman and Harriet Melissa Lettis. He was born in Root, Montgomery County. They were here in 1900 and will be back in Root by 1920.

 

MARGARET E. PUTMAN  Gloversville W4, Fulton County

She is 74 NY NY NY a dress maker. She has several roomers. She is widowed but had been married 41 years. She is the widow of Peter Putman. They had been in Johnstown since the 1860s.

 

MARTHA PUTMAN  Gloversville W5, Fulton County

She is 32 NY NY NY and says she is married and has been for 15 years. Her son Harlan is 14 NY, Hazel 12 NY, Nelson (Stewart in 1900) 11 NY and Martha 7 NY. She was married to Stewart Putman here in 1900, and I guess still is. I don’t find any of these folks in 1920, so can’t tell.

 

MIRANDA PUTMAN  Gloversville W2, Fulton County

She is 73 NY NY NY and still has her son Everett 41 NY with her. She is the widow of Peter Victor Putman. They were in Johnstown in 1870 and 1880 and she was widowed here in Gloversville in 1900, and they are here in 1920 too. Everett is married by then.

He is 39 NY NY NY. Clara May Brunner his wife of 17 years is 35 NY and Howard D. 10 NY. He is a leather worker. Don’t find them in 1900, but they are here in 1920 and 1930. He is a son of William F. Putman and Harriet Melissa Lettis from Root, Montgomery County.

He is 38 NY NY NY and a brick mason. He is rooming and lists himself as being divorced.

 

AARON M. PUTMAN  Johnstown W3, Fulton County

He is 62 NY NY NY and runs a meat market. Emma Jean Olmstead his third wife of just one year is 51 NY. She was married to a Miller before this her second marriage. See the 1900 listing for Aaron’s other two wives. Still at home are Everett 17 NY, Olin 16 NY, Laverne 14 NY and Howard 10 NY. He will die in the next few years, and in 1920 Emma and all the kids will still be here. Aaron is a son of Michael Putnam and Sarah Selmser. He was born right here in town.

 

BERNARD PUTMAN  Johnstown W4, Fulton County

He is 57 NY NY NY, and Elsie Tefft his wife of 20 years is 51 NY. Also here are her folks John and Catherine Tefft, and two of her sisters, one widowed and one divorced. He was born here, a son of James and Louisa Putman. He and Elsie are here in 1920 too.

He is 52 NY NY NY and a partner in a skin mill (leather maker). Minnie L. his wife of 24 years is 42 NY and their son Olin S. is 16 NY. He is a son of Andrew Jackson and Betsy Ann Putman. He has been here all his life, and will be widowed here in 1920.

 

EARL PUTMAN  Johnstown W4, Fulton County

He is 21 NY NY NY, and his wife of 2 years Eva Sleezer is 20 NY NY NY. They live with her folks James and Elizabeth Sleezer. He is a son of Charles M. Putman and Arvilla Dygart and was in Mohawk, Montgomery County with both of them in 1900. I don’t find them in 1920.

 

FLOYD F. PUTMAN  Johnstown W2, Fulton County

He is 18 NY NY NY and is a wagon driver for a glove factory. He lives with his mother Arvilla 52 NY who has just married Thomas Haynes 78 NY. He is a son of Charles M. Putman and Arvilla Dygart and was in Mohawk, Montgomery County with both of them in 1900. Charles died recently. His brother Earl is listed above. His brother Levi and his new wife live here too, and are listed shortly.

 

FRANCIS & NORMAN PUTNAM  West Johnstown, Fulton County

Francis is 10 NY and Norman 8 NY. They live with their grandparents John and Jennie La Quay. Now, in 1900, Francis was with his mother Nina La Quay Putnam in Herkimer County. No ideas on dad though.

 

FRANK B. PUTMAN  Johnstown W1, Fulton County

He is 28 NY NY NY, single and works in a glove factory. He is a son of Mahlon and Amanda Putman and was at home here with them in 1900. Think he is the single guy in Montgomery County in 1920.

 

GEORGE A. (AARON) PUTMAN  Johnstown W3, Fulton County

For some reason this entry was listed under his wife Lottie and he was listed as her grandson. Oh well. Anyway he is 38 NY NY NY, Lottie (Charlotte Plantz) his wife of 6 years is 35 NY, and they have Howard G. 3 NY. They live with her widowed dad Giles Plantz 64 NY. They are all here in 1920, even Giles. Lottie is a daughter of Giles Plantz and his first wife Etta Howe. Then Giles married Henrietta Putman, daughter of Aaron Putman and Sarah Hobbs. George is a son of Aaron George and Catherine Putman also from here in Johnstown.

He is 42 NY NY NY and is an engineer in a shirt factory. Ida M. his wife of 13 years is 36 NY. He is a son of Hiram Putman and Mary Ellen Gray from here. They are here in 1920 too, and his widowed mother will be with them then.

He is 51 NY NY NY and his wife of 25 years, Catherine Nellis, is 46 NY. He is a farmer. Giles Henry Putman is a son of Stephen Philip Putman and Amanda Dockstadder from Mohawk, Montgomery County. They were back there in 1900 and will be here in Johnstown in 1920.

He is 46 NY NY NY and his wife of 14 years, Mary E., is 45 NY. This is his second marriage. They have Edison E. 8 NY. Also here is Lillian Putman 28 NY listed as a boarder. She is a daughter of Leonard Putman and Katherine Vosburgh from here in Johnstown. She will be still staying here in 1920. Harvey is a son of Hiram Putman and Mary Ellen Gray from here.

He is now 71 NY NY NY. Mary Ellen Gray, his wife of 51 years is now 76 NY. Hiram’s folks were John Peter Putman and Sarah Amelia Whitlock of Ephratah. He was living with his son George here in 1900

He is 46 NY NY NY and a farmer. Hattie (Harriet Mosher) his wife of 21 years is 44 NY, Etha 19 NY, Charles M. (Marvin) 17 NY, James B. (Baldus) 15 NY, Arthur S. (Spencer) 11 NY and Ira Junior 8 NY. Also here are his now widowed mother Hannah 83 ENG and his sister Hannah 48 NY and still single. He is a son of James Baldus Putman and Hannah Marple and was born here. His dad just died in 1909 and his mom will die here in 1911. Ira and Hattie are here in 1920 too.

 

ISABEL PUTMAN  Johnstown Township, Fulton County

She is 33 NY NY NY and says she has been married for 12 years. She lives with her married sister Mary Wilson and their family. In 1920 she is in Gloversville and living with her brother Elmer Hart, so that would be her maiden name. I don’t find her in 1900.

 

IRVING PUTMAN  Johnstown W1, Fulton County

He is 45 NY NY NY and works in a mill. Robina Fowlds, his wife of 22 years, is 39 SCOT, and they now have Hilda 21 NY, Katherine 17 NY, Grace 15 NY, Fred 13 NY, Robert 10 NY, Bessie 8 NY, Lester 5 NY and a daughter Marion 1 2/12 NY. He is a son of Richard Simon Putman and Celia Smith of Johnstown. He was born here January 24, 1864, and married Robina here in 1887. They are here in 1920 with two more kids.

He is 52 NY NY NY and works in a glove factory. Georgia, his wife of 23 years, is 48 NY and Mabel 21 NY. He is a son of James and Louisa Putman of Johnstown. Georgia is widowed here by 1920.

He is 20 NY NY NY and is a son of Charles Putman and Arvilla Dygart from Mohawk, Montgomery County. He was home there in 1900. He is now married to a Lizzie 20 NY for two years, and they have Mildred 11/12 NY. He will be here in 1920 with Mildred and another, younger, wife named Mabel.

He is 69 NY NY NY and works in a glove factory. Jennie, his wife of 36 years, is 63 NY and their son Eugene is 24 NY. He is a son of Cornelius Putman and Maria Gardenier, and was born here. In 1920, I only find their other son Elmer around here. Eugene appears married in 1930.

 

JOHN H. (HENRY) PUTMAN  Johnstown W3, Fulton County

He is 68 NY NY NY and retired. Elizabeth Ann Plantz, his wife of 44 years is 66 NY. He is a son of George Aaron Putman and his first wife Magdalena Moore from Mohawk, Montgomery County. They were married there January 10, 1866. They were in Mohawk in 1880 and I don’t find them indexed in 1900, but probably here. They are both here in 1920 though.

 

JOHN S. PUTMAN  Johnstown W2, Fulton County

He is 42 NY NY NY and he is a partner in a lunchroom. Lefa Kilmer, his wife of 10 years is 29 NY and they have a daughter Marion  K. 2 NY. He is a son of Hiram Putman and Mary Ellen Gray from here in town. They were here in 1900. They are living with a Davis family who may be Lefa’s folks. By 1920, both John and Lefa are missing. Marion is here though living with her uncle Alex Kilmer. In 1930, John is widowed and living with his also widowed brother Harvey here in Johnstown.

He is 31 NY NY NY and he works in a skin mill. Helen, his wife of 12 years, is 36 NY, Myrtle 11 NY and Louis 9 NY. He is a son of Adam and Phoebe Putman of Johnstown. He is shown at home in 1880. They were married here in 1900. In 1920 both are in Gloversville, and he has a new wife Margaret. Divorced sometime between now and then.

 

LEONARD PUTMAN  Johnstown Township, Fulton County

He is 55 NY NY NY and a farmer. Kate B. Donman, his second wife of 20 years, is 47 NY and Arthur D. is 13 NY. He is a son of Michael Putman and Sally Selmser of Perth, Fulton County. They were here in 1900, and Kate was married to a Vosburgh before this. Leonard is also listed in Glen, Montgomery County by himself and he states he is divorced. Hmmm.

 

LEVI PUTMAN  Johnstown W2, Fulton County

He is 22 NY NY NY, and married two years to Effie Luft 19 NY NY NY, and they have a daughter Teirla 9/12 NY. They are here in 1920. He lives with his mother Arvilla 52 NY who has just married Thomas Haynes 78 NY. He is a son of Charles M. Putman and Arvilla Dygart and was here with both of them in 1900. Charles died recently. His brother Floyd lives here too, and is listed earlier.

He is NY NY and a house carpenter. Ida Slade, his wife of 21 years is 43 NY, Clarence S. 19 NY and William F. (Floyd) is 16 NY. He is a son of Michael Putman and Sarah Selmser from here. They are all here in 1920. Clarence is married by then.

Lillian is 22 NY NY NY, her sister Jessie 11 NY and her married sister Hazel Christof 20 NY and husband John Christof 24 NY. They live with their widowed grandmother Margaret Hardy. In 1900 the kids were living with their parents Weston Putman and Nora Hardy, and their grandmother was with them then. Now in both parents have vanished, and they aren’t around in 1920 either. Guess both died or split town.

He is now 60 NY NY NY. Elizabeth Stoeller, his wife of 32 years, is 61 NY. They never had any kids. He is a son of James Baldus Putman and Hannnah Marple’s son from here in Johnstown. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920.

He is 67 NY NY NY and widowed. He works in a hotel. He is a son of Lewis Putnam and has been in Orleans County. In 1920 he is with his son Louis in Charleston, West Virginia.

She is 4 KS and lives with her uncle George Schofield and his wife Emma. She is still here with them in 1920.

 

RAYMOND PUTNAM  Batavia, Genesee County

He is 28 NY NY NY and a house carpenter. Ethel H. Barrington, his wife of 3 years, is 27 NY and they have Helen C. 10/12 NY. He is a son of Merritt and Clara Putnam, and was born here. They are here in 1920.

 

HARTSON PUTNAM  Bethany, Genesee County

He is 60 NY NY NY and a farmer. Alice Kinney, his second wife of 28 years, is 49 NY, Persis 23 NY, Mary 22 NY and Floyd 16 NY. He is a son of Orrin Putnam and Sophia Huntington from Batavia. He was married to Roselle Quance, and then to Alice Kinney in 1881. They were in Batavia in 1880 and 1900.

 

JULIUS PUTNAM  Bethany, Genesee County

He is 61 NY NY NY and a farmer. His wife of 40 years Alice Shepard is 56 NY and their daughter Rosella is 29 NY. He is a son of Josiah Putnam and Lydia Shaw. He was born here September 25, 1848 and is married to Alice Shephard. Rosella is their only child. They are here in 1920.

 

LESLIE PUTNAM  Bethany, Genesee County

He is 27 NY NY NY and a farmer like all his relatives in town. Flora his wife of seven years is 26 NY, and their daughter Beatrice is 4 NY. He is a son of Hartson and Alice Putnam here in town. They were in Batavia like everyone else in 100 and here now. He either lives with his uncles Merritt and Julius or next door. Don’t find them in 1920.

 

MERRITT PUTNAM  Bethany, Genesee County

He is 63 NY NY NY and his wife Clara Stringham is 62 NY. They have been married 39 years now. Also here are their kids Minnie 36 NY, Blanche 31 NY, Merton 22 NY and Glenn 18 NY. Then there are his sisters Julia 53 NY and Laura 60 NY. Everyone is single. His brother Julius is here, but I’m giving him a separate listing. By 1920 Clara is widowed here.

 

HENRY PUTNAM  Byron, Genesee County

He is 23 NY NY NY and working on the Steele farm. He looks like the son of Charles Putnam and Mary Soules from neighboring Orleans County.

 

JAMES PUTNAM  Byron, Genesee County

He is 89 NY NY NY. Martha, his wife of 46 years, is 65 NY. This is his third and her first marriage. He was single here in 1850 and married by the 1870. No ideas at all on his folks.

 

ELLA T. PUTNAM  Elba, Genesee County

She is 39 NY NY NY and lives with her now widowed mother Harriet Taylor. She was here in 1900. She says she is married and has been for 20 years, but no husband is ever present.

 

JAMES E. PUTNAM  Pembroke, Genesee County

He is 55 NY NY NY and is a house carpenter. Carrie E. his wife of 28 years is 47 NY. He has been here sine the 1870s. He will die here in 1914, Carrie in 1938. They are both buried in Evergreen Hill Cemetery.
