OHIO 1920 CENSUS

 

A. (ARTHUR) B. PUTMAN  Delphos, Allen County

He is 26 OH, Edna M. Davis 27 OH, Evelyn J. 5 1/12 OH and Betta 3 3/12 OH. Edna's mother, Emma R. Davis 65 OH is there as well. He is a son of Solomon Putman and Mary Brubaker from Van Wert County. He was there in 1900 and 1910. They are in Grant County, Indiana in 1930.

 

EDWARD PUTNAM  Ashtabula, Ashtabula County

He is Edward Ray Putnam 37 OH and boarding with J. H. Regner. His wife Daisy Regner or Renger has died since 1910 and he moved in with her brother. His dad George Elbert Putnam is here in town. Edward will die shortly on May 28, 1920.

 

GEORGE E. (ELBERT) PUTMAN  Ashtabula, Ashtabula County

He is 61 NY and widowed. He married Alice M. Story here on July 19, 1879. His daughter Florence E. Wilcox 32 OH, Sheridan T. Wilcox 8 IN and Grace L. Wilcox 5 OH are with him. George is a son of George Putnam and Polly Temple from Stockton, NY. His grandfather was Gilbert Putnam number 2840. He will have a new wife Susan and be in Geneva, Ashtabula County in 1930.

 

WALTER PUTNAM  Conneaut, Ashtabula County

He is 34 OH, Charlotte 39 PA and they have a maid, Rose Ohirko 25 from Russia. He is a son of Charles Putnam and Laura Stone from New York and then here. He was born here. They are here in 1930.

 

CHARLES S. (SUMNER) PUTNAM  Conneaut, Ashtabula County

He is now 62 NY and living with his daughter Effie and her husband Carl List. They were here with him in 1910, but his wife Laura Stone has died December 30, 1918. His son Walter lives in town as well. Charles will be here until he dies May 21, 1928.

 

CAROLYN PUTNAM  Geneva, Ashtabula County

She is listed as 60 IL and lives alone. She was married to William Putnam in Cleveland in 1900. He was a son of Lafayette Putnam and Lucy Almeda Dustin. She was here in 1910, widowed then as well. She will die here on March 2, 1927.

 

ELLA S. (SUSANNAH) PUTNAM  Athens, Athens County

She is 66 OH and living alone. She has been here all her life and will be in 1930. She is the unmarried daughter of George and Susan from NY.

 

GEORGE I. PUTNAM  Athens, Athens County

He was born here, a son of George Putnam and Susan Westcott. George is now 59 OH, Ida Lamb his wife is 51 IL, Harriet 32 OH, Susan 28 OH, Israel 26 OH, Dorothy 20 OH and Abigail 16 OH. Also there, as lodgers, are Sarah A Handley 62 OH, Lillian P. Handley 37 OH and Cecil Handley 22 OH. They are not related that I know of. George and Ida are here in 1930.

 

LUCIA PUTNAM  Athens, Athens County

Lucy Smith is David Putnam's widow, now 59 OH. She has been here forever.

 

STEWART L. PUTNAM  St. Clairsville, Belmont County

He is 36 PA, Edith M. E. 35 DE and they have Dorothy C. 11 NY. All these states meet in the NE corner of OH. New arrivals. Stewart is a son of Luman (Jr.) and Alice Putnam from Bradford County Pennsylvania. Luman died by 1900, but Stewart and his mom are at home in Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania in 1900. Luman Sr. came there to Bradford Co Pennsylvania in the 1820s from Massachusetts.

 

HOMER PUTNAM  Belmont County

He is 36 WV, and his wife Lucy Belle Ochsenbein 32 OH, Ralph 11 OH, Rex 9 WV, Roscoe 6 OH and Ethel 2 OH. He is one of the Southern guys, a son of Jonathan Putnam and Anna Messenger from Gilmer County West Virginia and from Fauquier County Virginia before that. He has bounced around. He was home in 1900 and just married in Ohio in 1908 and in Gilmer County in 1910. They are all in Contra Costa County California by 1930.

 

LLOYD W. (WILLIAM) PUTNAM  St. Paris, Champaign County

James and Sarah's son is 35 OH (born right here). Mary K. Leedon his wife is 35 OH, Robert L. 8 OH and Hugh William 6 OH. Lloyd was born August 16, 1884 and died in February 1976 in Columbus Ohio. He married Mary Kay Leedom who will die in 1921. He will then marry Verda Klapp in 1925 and they will be here in 1930.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  ST. Paris, Champaign County

He is Charles Thomas Putnam, son of Henry and Margaret from Kentucky. He is 64 OH, Mary Shein 40 OH, Henry 13 OH and Lucille 10 OH. Charles was born here on March 28, 1855. He married Rosa Martz January 25, 1877, and she died in 1879. He married Mary Shein here on March 29, 1915.

 

GUY PUTNAM  St. Paris, Champaign County

James Guy is a son of Charles and his first wife Rosa Martz, and grandson of Henry Putman from Kentucky. He is 40 OH, Elizabeth Ellen Clem his wife is 37 OH and Paul 10 OH. James Guy was born March 23, 1879 and died in October 1969. He married Lizzie Ellen Clem, born March 2, 1882 and died June 8, 1951. She was a daughter of Peter C. Clem and Nancy A. Snapp. They are here in 1930.

 

JAMES B. PUTNAM  Johnson, Champaign County

Henry's son. He is now 63 OH, Alice Prince 60 OH, Mabel 28 OH, the twins Clara and Clarence 22 OH. There is also a granddaughter Sarah Michael 4 5/12 OH. She must be his daughter Laura's. James was born November 3, 1856. He married Sarah Alice Prince December 14, 1879. Alice was born November 21, 1858 and will die May 17, 1939. She was a daughter of Solomon Prince and Sarah Brown. They had eleven children. He died June 22, 1956 just a couple of months short of his 100th birthday. He was the oldest licensed driver in the state of Ohio and still had his license when he died. Southern Putmans.

 

LEE PUTNAM  St. Paris, Champaign County

He is a son of William Henry from here. He is 22 OH and living alone. He married Marvel Caven in 1918 and now has a daughter Patricia. Don’t know where they are now, but they are all together here in 1930. Ebenezer Lee was born October 18, 1897 and died March 27, 1958. He married Marvel Floss Caven on November 28, 1918. She was born October 14, 1896 and died June 30, 1946. Southern Putmans.

 

RAY PUTNAM  St. Paris, Champaign County

Raymond Henry is a son of William Henry Putman (Southern Putman branch). He is 28 OH, Mary B. Applegett 28 OH, and Mae 2 9/12 OH. He was born February 4, 1892 and died in 1977. He married Mary Applegett and was a farmer. They were in Champaign County in 1920 and in Shelby County in 1930.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  St. Paris, Champaign County

He is a son of Henry Putnam. He is 59 OH and Savanna Slack is 48 OH. William was born March 14, 1859, and he will die in Champaign County May 14, 1924. He married Savanna 'Vannie' Slack here on December 29, 1889. She was born October 13, 1871, and will die March 21, 1928. Southern Putmans.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  East Liverpool, Columbiana County

He is 60 OH, Lola 49 OH. He is a son of James H. and Mary Putnam from Vermont, and has been here since the 1850s. They never had any children. John will die here July 12, 1927. Lola is widowed here in 1930.

 

OLGA PUTMAN  East Liverpool, Columbiana County

She is 33 and out boarding. She is a daughter of Archie and Euphema from here. She was home with her widowed mom in 1910. Now looks like mom has gone to Heaven as well. Olga will be in Los Angeles by 1930 and be living with her married sister Hattie. Her brother James is out there then too.

 

THOMAS J. PUTNAM  East Liverpool, Columbiana County

Thomas is 44 OH, Mary 41 OH, Maria 15 OH and Alice 13 OH. I think he is Rufus’ or Alice’s son, probably out of wedlock. He was with Rufus in 1900 as a nephew. Might belong to his brother John but I doubt it. They are here in 1930.

 

ALMEDA PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

James' widow has been here since 1910. She is 49 OH and has a son George 31 OH who was not with her and James in 1910. And, still no idea who James belongs to. He was a mulatto.

 

BEN B. PUTMAN  Cleveland Cuyahoga County

He is a son of William Henry Putnam from New York State, and has been here since 1880. He is 49 OH, Daisy D. Thomas 46 OH. Her father Cyrus P. Thomas 76 NY is still with them. Daisy will die here October 2, 1921, and Benjamin will die here April 5, 1929.

 

CARL PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 26 WV, Helen Medaughe 23 OH, Carl 1 5/12 OH. Luther Castin 23 OH is boarding with them. He is a son of James who was here in 1910. Carl's brother Morris is also here in Cleveland and lists himself as a mulatto, so Carl is probably a mulatto as well.

 

CARRA (CARY) PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 28 OH and boarding. He is a son of Zachary Taylor Putman from Van Wert County (Pennsylvania German). He will be married to Mary Elizabeth Case and be back in Van Wert County by 1920.

 

DEAN C. (CYRUS) PUTMAN  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 24 OH, Mary 22 PA. He is Benjamin Putnam and Daisy Thomas' son who was listed as Cyrus here in 1910. They are here in 1930.

 

DOUGLAS PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 24 OH and lodging with Robert Schlasser. He is Pembroke and Mary Putnam’s son and has been here all his life. Pembroke was from Medina County and his grandparents Calvin and Lucy Putnam came from Vermont early on.

 

EDWARD PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is new, 24 NY NY NY single and boarding. He is an airplane mechanic.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He isn’t in the index, but is around. He would be 37 WI now. In 1880, he and his brother Fred were listed as stepsons of Dennis Smead. Their widowed mother Lavinia had married Dennis. She was first married to Augustus Putnam from Maine and they were in Grant County, Wisconsin in 1870 and here in 1880. They are here in 1930.

 

FRED PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is a brother of the above Frank and also a son of Augustus and Lavinia Putnam. He is 49 WI, Bernice (Sadie) Ward is 48 PA and young Bernice 23 OH.

 

HARRIET PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

Here since the 1890s. She is the spinster daughter of Ranson Putnam. She is 77 NY and enumerated with John and Lucy Walleck as she was in 1910. Lucy Walleck is her sister.

 

HAYES R. PUTMAN  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 27 OH, Anita 26 OH. He is a son of Walter Scott and Abigail Putman from Stark County (Pennsylvania German). They are back in Stark County with three kids in 1930.

 

HERBERT N. (NATHAN) PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 29 NY, Pauline 29 NY and Elizabeth 2 9/12 OH. More newcomers. He is a son of Herbert J. Putnam from Fredonia, Chautauqua County, New York. He was there in 1900 and 1919. They are here in 1930.

 

HOWARD PUTMAN  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 31 MI living with Emma King. He looks to be Howard Newcomb Putnam a son of Benajah Putnam from Leelanau County, Michigan. The family was from Canada and Vermont before that.

 

IRVIN H. PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

Another newcomer. He is 32 MA, Ruth B. 29 KS, Ruth B. 4 OH and Virginia 5/12 OH. He is a son of William Oliver Putnam and Mary Horian from Winchendon, Massachusetts. They are in Shaker Heights (an exclusive suburb) in 1930.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

This is a black family. John is 34 WV, Gertrude 28 OH. They are here in 1930 as well. He is a son of James and Almeda Putnam who were here in 1910.

 

KATHERINE PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

Newcomers. She is 35 OH, Randolph 8 OH, Robert 6 CAN, and two boarders.

 

LAVERNE PUTMAN  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

She is 23 WI single and boarding. She is a daughter of Edward and Nellie Putman from Berlin, Green Lake, Wisconsin. Dutch folks.

 

LLOYD P. PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 20 PA and lodging. He is a son of Glen D. and Mary Jane Putman from Lafayette Township, McKean County Pennsylvania. He was at home there in 1900.

 

LUCY PUTNAN  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

She is 88 PA and is an 'inmate' in the Dorcas Old Age Home. She was listed as the mother of William T. Putnam from Wisconsin back in 1900 in Cleveland. Lucy Almeda Dustin was married to Lafayette Putnam in St. Louis in 1870 and 1880 and in Illinois before that. Her son William died here in the early 1900s. Lucy will die here on December 6, 1926.

 

MARY G. PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

She is 47 CAN and an inmate in the Cleveland State Hospital for the Insane. Mary Weston is Clarence's wife. He is still in town, but on the 'outside.'

 

MAURICE PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is a son of William Henry and Rhoda Putnam, and has been here a while now. He is 39 OH, Mina 33 OH, Charles 10 OH, Eleanor 9 OH, Iola 7 OH, Thelma 5 OH and Adelbert 2 5/12 OH. They are all here in 1930 except Adelbert who died October 17, 1925.

 

MORRIS PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 26 WV, Clara 23 OH, Morris Jr. 1 7/12 OH, Thomas 4/12 OH. Morris lists himself as a mulatto.

 

RHODA PUTNAM  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

She is Rhoda Ranson, the widow of William Henry Putnam from NY. They have been here since the 1870s. She is recently widowed. She is 74 OH, and has sons Charles R. 54 OH who is widowed and William C. 43 OH still with her at home. They are all still here in 1930.

 

SUSAN PUTMAN  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

She is 25 OH and boarding with Blanche May Scott

 

WILLIAM PUTMAN  Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 19 OH and a stepson of Frank and Jessie Cochran. He was with Frank and his mother Jessie in 1910 in Montgomery County. His dad was Jesse Putman, a son of Henry Putman from Wyandot County Ohio. That family is German from Pennsylvania. He is married here in 1930.

 

A. (ALFRED) F. PUTMAN  Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga County

He is 42 OH, Maude M. Judson 39 OH and her mother Annie E. Judson 67 ENG. Here in 1910, a son of William and Rhoda from Newbury, Cuyahoga County. Alfred was born October 13, 1887 and will die here in Cleveland in February 1868. All three are here in 1930.

 

CLARENCE J. PUTMAN  Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga County

He is 50 MI MI NYand living with Tully Miller as a brother in law. Tully’s wife Anna was from Canada like Clarence’s wife Mary. Their mother Amelia Weston 75 ENG is here so we know their last name. He was here in town in 1910 and married, but now Mary is still in Cleveland but at the State Hospital for the Insane. His daughter Margery (listed Ruth M. in 1910) 14 OH is, however, with him. He is a son of Charles and Esther Putnam and was born in Eaton County Michigan. The family was in Linn County Iowa in 1880 and he was in Johnson County Iowa in 1900. Clarence will die here March 16, 1926.

 

J. B. PUTMAN  Cleveland Heights, Cuyahoga County

He is 27 NY ENG ENG, Mildred 25 OH and they have a maid, Margaret Neenan 40 ENG.

 

CHARLES V. PUTNAM  East Cleveland, Cuyahoga County

He is 36 NH NH VT and listed as a friend of someone whose name was not recorded. He was here in 1910 living with William Cunningham. He is a son of Freidel S. Putnam and Flora Jane Houghton from Croydon New Hampshire. He was born there July 3, 1883. He was here in 1910 and will be here still single in 1930. He is a secretary for the Electric Motor Car Company. Trolley to you folks.

 

FRANK R. PUTNAM  Lakewood, Cuyahoga County

This is Pembroke's son from Medina County in 1900 and here in Cleveland in 1910. His middle initial might be for Russell who was Pembroke's daddy. He is now 39 OH, Estelle E. Conkley 38 OH, Winifred 9 OH, Calvin 6 OH. His mother Mary C. Randolph Putnam 66 OH is with them as is a boarder, Clyde Henninger 30 OH. They are in Rocky River, Cuyahoga County in 1930.

 

H. C. (HORACE CLYDE) PUTNAM  Lakewood, Cuyahoga County

He is 49 OH, Mary A. 49 OH, Edward W. 23 OH, Ed's wife Lucille B. is 23 OH and they have Ann 8/12 OH. Also there is Horace's daughter Blanche 25 OH and her husband Donald E. Van Densen 24 OH. Anna Hayes 50 IRL is a live in servant. He is a son of William Putnam and Anna Blair from Madison County. They were in Newark, Licking County in 1910, and will be in Cleveland in 1930.

 

HENRY PUTNAM  Lakewood, Cuyahoga County

He is 32 GER, Anna 32 GER and they have Eleanor A. 1 OH. Real newcomers here.

 

MARY C. PUTNAM  Lakewood, Cuyahoga County

Mary Randolph was the widow of Pembroke Putnam and has been in Cleveland. She will be in Long Beach California in 1930 and two of her sons are with her. Guess they went west earlier. She is now 66 OH and living with her son Frank R. Putnam.

 

ANNA PUTNAM  Hicksville, Defiance County

She is 74 PA and has a 'companion' Lucie La Salle 23 IL and her daughter Florence 23 IL. In 1880, Anna was here with her husband L. Putnam from Pennsylvania also. Then I would guess she was still here, but the family was not shown in 1900 nor in 1910, but here she is. To answer your other question, I don't know who L. Putnam was. Best guess is that he was Luman Putnam jr. seen in Bradford County Pennsylvania in 1850.

 

ISRAEL PUTNAM  Delaware, Delaware County

He is 25 OH and rooming. He is a son of George Putnam and Ida Lamb, and was in Athens County in 1900 and 1910.

 

EDGAR PUTNAM  Sandusky, Erie County

He is 34 OH, Anna 30 NY. He is a son of Harry and Elizabeth Putman from Stark County and they are here now too. Pennsylvania German folks. They are here in 1930.

 

HARRY PUTMAN  Sandusky, Erie County

He is 59 OH, Lizzie 59 CAN. He's been here since 1900, but was born in Stark County, son of Joseph and Hannah. Harry will die here March 19, 1921. German family from Pennsylvania.

 

WILLIAM E. (EDWARD) PUTMAN  Lancaster, Fairfield County

He is 44 OH, Mary 39 OH, Lucille 17 OH, Dorothy 14 OH, Charles 12 OH and Rosemary 7 OH. They were in Fayette County OH in 1910. He is a son of William Putman and Anna Blair from Union Township, Madison County. William was born December 5, 1875 and will die here June 30, 1929. Mary is widowed in Columbus, Ohio with the kids in 1930.

 

DAVID E. PUTNAM  Columbus, Franklin County

He is now 77 OH and his sister Lydia H. Putnam 82 OH is still with him. They are kids of the Reverend Charles Marsh Putnam from Licking County

 

ELMORE D. PUTNAM  Columbus, Franklin County

David Putnam and Susan Ramsey's son has been here since the 1890s. He is now 49 OH, Alma D. 44 IN, David W. 23 OH. Alma's mom, Annie Bierman 68 OH is still living with them.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Columbus, Franklin County

He is 27 PA PA PA and a lodger with Ray Yates. He is a clerk in a restaurant. I don't find him in Pennsylvania or anywhere in 1900 or 1910.

 

HARRY PUTMAN  Columbus, Franklin County

He is 31 OH, Cora 27 OH, James A. 7 OH and Richard 2 10/12 OH. He is a son of Joseph and Clara from Washington County, Maryland and a grandson of Noah Putman of Frederick County Maryland. German family. They are here in 1930 and so is his dad Joseph who will get himself divorced shortly.

 

HARRY PUTMAN  Columbus, Franklin County

He is 46 OH, Margaret 22 OH, a daughter. He was in Champaign County in 1900 and here in 1910. He will have a new wife Amelia and a stepson here in 1930. He's a son of Benjamin Putman from Vermont.

 

HOWARD G. PUTMAN  Columbus, Franklin County

He is 30 OH, Mary C. Mehan 29 OH, Robert G 6 OH and James H. 5/12 OH. Also there is Mary's sister, Helen A. Mehan 22 OH. He is a son of John H. and Elizabeth Putman from here in Franklin County. German family out of Washington County, Maryland. He will be widowed here in 1930.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  Columbus, Franklin County

He is listed 59 OH and lodging with William Peckinpaugh. I don't find such a guy in 1900 nor 1910. But, if the old handwriting was wrong (quite common) and the age was 50 and not 59 (again the handwriting could go either way), then he is the James C. who has been here since the 1890s, and he would be William and Mary's son from Adams County originally. The James C. listed here in Columbus for the past 25 years was married but had no children and that James C. is not in this report. I believe they are one and the same. Then there is a stray Mary coming up here in Columbus (again bad age), but maybe they simply got divorced. He will have a new wife and be in Howell County Missouri in 1930.

 

JEAN PUTNAM  Columbus, Franklin County

She is 33 OH and rooming. She's single and in Marion, Franklin County in 1930. Looks like the daughter of William A. Putman and Mary DeForest from Huron County.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Columbus, Franklin County

He is 76 MD, Elizabeth 68 MD. He is Noah's son from Washington County, Maryland. The other German family here in Ohio.

 

MARY PUTMAN  Columbus, Franklin County

She is 38 OH and living alone. I don't find her in 1900 nor 1910. She probably is not a Putman by birth, but a wife/widow of one.

 

MAYME PUTNAM  Columbus, Franklin County

She is 33 OH OH OH and living alone. She says she is married, but he is not around. No ideas here. Might be the same gal as Mary above, 3s and 8s can look alike.

 

VICTOR B. PUTNAM  Columbus, Franklin County

He is 51 VA and boarding with Charles Houser. One of the Southern Putman line. He is a son of James Putnam and Alice Steed from Warren County, Virginia.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Franklin County

He was here in 1910. He is 50 OH, Florina A. 50 OH, Roy M. 15 OH and Beulah M. 12 OH. Also there is a grandson Harold N. 5 OH who would be his son James' boy. Don't find James here in 1920. He looks like a son of James and Harriet Putman from here.

 

MARY PUTMAN  Delta, Fulton County

She is the widow of Israel Putman from here (Pennsylvania German). She is 63 OH. Her daughter Cloe Smith (listed Delia in 1900) is home at 36 OH, her husband Clarence J. Smith 37 OH and kids Roscoe Leroy Smith 9 OH and Ross Smith 8 OH are living here too.

 

ARCHIE B. PUTMAN  Fulton County

Archibald is 42 OH, Ella A. Fauble, his wife, 42 OH, Israel R. 17 OH, Harry L. 14 OH, Florence T. 12 OH and Lucille M. 9 OH. He is a son of Israel and Mary from here and from Somerset County Pennsylvania originally. Archie was born April 1, 1877. Ella was born January 11, 1877, and died in 1956. Archie died in 1959.  German Family.

 

AMBROSE PUTTMANN  Cincinnati, Hamilton County

Ambrose is a son of Anthony Puttmann. His folks died and he was living with his uncle Frank here in 1900. Ambrose was married here in 1904 and will be here through the 1930 census. He is 38 OH, Louise Rothan his wife is 36 OH, Helen 14 OH, Vera 12 OH, Mariann 8 OH, Ambrose jr. 10 OH, Lucille 6 OH, Mary M. 4 10/12 OH, William 1 9/12 OH. Also there is an aunt Louise Kramer 65 OH. Now, interesting stuff. Ran into a descendant of his brother Anthony (listed shortly) who gave me some info. Ambrose was a baseball pitcher. Played for the New York Highlanders later the New York Yankees from 1903 through 1905 and then was with the St. Louis Cardinals from 1906 on for a couple years. He pitched a no hitter in one of the years that he was with the Yankees. Being a Yankee fan myself, I say YEA!

 

ANNA B. PUTMAN  Cincinnati, Hamilton County

She is 75 OH and living alone. She is the widow of Benjamin from Vermont. He was a son of Leander Putnam and Cynthia Stone from Washington County Vermont. He married Anna herein July 1862. Ben died January 2, 1914 and she will die here February 16, 1920.

 

ANTHONY PUTTMAN  Cincinnati, Hamilton County

Frank's son. Ambrose is his brother. Anyway, Anthony is 31 OH, his wife Henrietta Rifkin 29 OH and Robert (Robert Anthony) 5 OH. Anthony and Henrietta ran a grocery store here in Cincinnati. In fact if you look back in 1850, you'll see his grandfather, John H. Puttman was a grocer. Wonder if it was the same store. Anthony is going to die in another year or two, and Henrietta will run the show for a bunch of years, and then move to Washington DC in the late 1940s and work for the government there.

She is listed as 11 TX, a niece of Lucius Drewery. I don't find her in Texas in 1910.

 

FRANCIS PUTMAN  Cincinnati, Hamilton County

He was here since 1900. He is 49 OH, Martha 21 OH, Raymond 26 OH. His wife was missing in 1900 and he hasn't remarried. He is probably Anthony's son. This family came from Germany to Ohio in the 1840s.

 

FRANK PUTTMAN  Cincinnati, Hamilton County

He is 29 OH, Elsie 28 KY and young Frank 4 OH. He is Ferdinand's son. This family came originally from Germany.

 

GEORGE A. PUTTMAN  Cincinnati, Hamilton County

He is Ferdinand's son and was married here in 1910. He is now 34 OH, Rosa J. 38 OH, George 12 OH, Clarence 10 OH and Rosella 4 OH. They are here in 1930.

 

HOWARD L. PUTNAM  Cincinnati, Hamilton County

He is 10 CO IN TX (should be CO TX IN) and listed as a son in the middle of a long list of boarders. At the top is a Edith L. Davidson but from Indiana not Texas. In 1910 Colorado census, he is shown as a son of James W. and Edith Putnam in Denver. By 1930 Edith is back using her Putnam name and has Howard with her. They are in Miami Florida then. Not sure who James was.

 

JOHN H. (HALL) PUTMAN  Cincinnati, Hamilton County

Part of the Southern Putman family, he is Thomas Daniel Putman and Hannah Applegate’s son. He is 56 KY, Mary Florence Miller 44 OH, Gladys V. 21 OH, Thomas T. 18 OH, Edwin R. 13 OH, Robert M. 10 OH and John O. 6 OH. His other son, Joe Bishop, is with his mother's family and has been for some 15 years. He was born January 25, 1863. He married Mary Florence Miller September 1, 1895 in New Vienna, Ohio. Mary was born September 16, 1875 and died in Cincinnati November 6, 1961. John will die here in July 1928.

He is a son of Henry Putman and Clarissa Clark and has always been here. He is now 50 OH, Eliza 44 OH, Willis M. 14 OH, Harry A. 11 OH and Mary M. 9 OH. The whole family is in Wyandot County in 1930.

He has been here a bunch of years, now he is 67 OH and his sister Laura Moore is still with him at age 78 OH. He will die here April 11, 1926. His dad, Calvin Putnam, was from New Hampshire.

He is a son of Henry Putman and Clarissa Clark. He was here in 1910 and back in Wyandot County in 1900. Pennsylvania German family. He is now 49 OH, Rosa B. Sloop 43 OH, Clara M. 21 OH, Francis S. 18 OH and Shannon E. 14 OH. They are here without kids in 1930.

 

WAYNE E. PUTMAN  Hardin County

He is 31 IL, Carrie 34 IL, Donald 7 IL, Howard 5 IL, Robert 3 IL. Newcomers. He is a son of Lee (Levi) F. and Carrie Putnam, and was with them in 1900 and 1910 in Conduit, Champaign County, Illinois. Lee's dad, Levi, was from New York. They are here still in 1930.

 

JOHN T. PUTMAN  Harrison County

He is now 70 OH, Mary 66 OH, Della 32 OH, and two boarders. He is a son of David Putman from NY. He was in Clermont County in 1860 and has not shown up since, although he has obviously been around here all along.

Crawford's son has moved over from Ross County where he was born. He is 65 OH, Mary Elizabeth Black is 62 OH. He will die here June 12, 1921.

He is 64 OH, Austie Parrett 63 OH and Mary Emily 23 OH. John is a son of Crawford Putman and Mary Ann Clark from Ross County. They have been here since 1900. German family from VA/WV. He is widowed, and back in Ross County by 1930.

 

JOE B. (BRYAN) PUTMAN  Union, Highland County

He is 23 OH and his wife Eva Gibson is 20 OH.  As in 1910, he is living with his grandfather Joseph Miller. His dad, John Hall Putman, is in Cincinnati with the rest of the family. John is a son of Thomas Daniel Putman from Lewis County Kentucky, and this is part of the 'southern' branch of the family. Some sort of falling out, I guess. Joseph Bryan Putman was born June 6, 1896. He married Eva Gibson of Martinsville, Ohio on June 5, 1919. They are in Clinton County in 1930.

 

WALTER S. (SMITH) PUTNAM  Millersburg, Holmes County

He is 55 OH, his second wife Margaret is 57 OH, Isaac 30 OH, Bruce R. 28 OH and there is a Marian Sowers 10 OH listed as a roomer. He is a son of Isaac from Knox County. Isaac was a son of Isaac Putnam (628) and Polly Chamberlain from Vermont and then Ohio. Robert Bruce, the son, will soon marry Eva Ducommun.

 

WILLIAM PUTMAN  Huron County

He is 63 NE and boarding with Henry Lucal. I found a William in Nebraska in 1900 the right age, but born in IL. If the IL was correct, he was in Lincoln County, Nebraska in 1900. He will die here on September 17, 1924.

 

ANNA E. PUTNAM  Gambier, Knox County

She is 86 OH and enumerated with James Nelson. Annie is an unmarried daughter of Norman W. Putnam from Vermont. She was also here in 1910. She will die here May 6, 1925.

 

KENNETH PUTNAM  Ironton, Lawrence County

More newcomers. He is 34 NY, Emma 31 NY, George S. 8 NY, Doris 5 NY and Enid A. 1 6/12 OH. He first appears in 1900 living with his uncle James Norman Putman in Manchester, Ontario County New York. He is just married to Emma and is with them in 1910 in Cayuga County. They are in Wayne County New York in 1930. He was born in 1885, so this is only a guess. In 1880 James had a brother George who was 18 at the time. George is nowhere to be found in 1900 and I’ll bet Ken is his. George and James were sons of James Putnam and Elizabeth Darbyshire from Steuben County and then Yates County. Dutch family.

She is 47 OH and the sister in law of William Eickholtz. No ideas, I don't find her in 1910. She will die here April 11, 1926.

 

ELMER C. PUTMAN  Bokes Creek, Logan County

He is one of the Southern Putmans, son of David C. and grandson of Zachariah from Champaign County OH. Elmer was born in Vermilion County IL and just moved here recently from Ayer, Champaign County IL. He is 48 IL, Ada May Smyth 49 IL, David S. 20 IL, John S. 16 IN and Barbara E. 8 IL. They are here in 1930.

 

CHARLES V. PUTNAM  Lorain, Lorain County

He is now 31 OH and listed as a stepson of David Lewis and his mother Kittie as he has been since 1900, but still have no clue as to his original daddy. He and Kittie are here in 1930.

He is Peter Farmer's son and was with the family in Van Wert County in 1900 and 1910. He is now 25 OH, Iva Noonan his wife 24 IN, Homer 6 OH, Dana a son 4 11/12 OH and Catherine 2 OH. He was born August 23, 1894. He will die here in April 1972. They are here in 1930.

He's a new arrival. He is 48 NY, Mary Leora Losee, his wife, 44 OH, Frank L. (Losee) 8 NY, James H. (Horace) 7 OH, his twin Anna Mary is 7 OH and Frederick W. (William) is 6 OH. He is a son of Horace Lysander Putnam and Ruth Rogers Toms. He was born in Saratoga County, NY, came here and married Mary in 1908. They then returned to Stillwater, Saratoga County in 1908, and then back here about 1912.

 

CAROLINE PUTNAM  Toledo, Lucas County

She is 68 OH and has some boarders. She is Carolyn Olmstead the widow of William Joseph Putman from Wilmot, Stark County. They were there in 1910 and he died in 1915. She will be back in Stark County living with her daughter Della in 1930.

A newcomer, he is 29 NY and living with his brother Leon and his family. They are sons of Frederick and Addie Putnam of Chautauqua County, New York. They were home there in Stockton in 1900. He will be in Ashtabula in 1930. He married Anna Rogers there in 1928.

He is 36 MI, Anna Johnson 27 OH and Nelson 9 OH. He is a son of Monroe J. Putman and Amelia White from Ingham County, Michigan, and was there with the family in 1900. He married Anna in Canada on June 15, 1914. Something will happen. By 1930 Anna has married Charles Dyer and she and Nelson are in Detroit.

He is now 44 OH OH OH and has a new wife Margaret 39 OH. She had been married to a Brancheau. In 1930 she has 2 kids, but they are not listed here now. I looked up Brancheau, and she was still there with her husband Peter Brancheau and the kids. Interesting. He is a son of David Putman and his second wife Lydia Morehart from Crawford County. German family out of Pennsylvania.

He is 23 MA and rooming. Another new guy. He is married here in 1930 and states he was born in Vermont. If it is Vermont, then he is a son of Myron C. Putnam from Burlington, Vermont. No one from Mass. fits at all.

Albert is 6 OH and a son of Owen Shoots. Also there are sisters Amber Lucille 8 OH and Zelda 2 OH. These are children of Herschel Guy Putman and Bessie May Isett from Wyandot County. Herschel was a son of Perry Albert Putnam and Ada Wolfe. Herschel Guy married Bessie back in Wyandot County on March 11, 1911. He died February 28, 1919 here in Marion. Bessie has recently remarried and here we are. They are all in Luzerne County Pennsylvania in 1930.

He is 45 VT, Mary 39 OH, Howard 19 OH, William 17 OH, Hazel 14 OH, Robert 10 OH, Allen 6 OH, Stella 4 6/12 OH and Starling a daughter 4/12 OH. He was not listed in 1900, but was here in 1910. Mary is widowed here in 1930.

Alexander's son was single in 1910, but married now. He is 34 OH, Mina Sharp 30 OH, Max 7 OH, Neil 3 OH and Robert 1 8/12 OH. He is widowed here with the three kids in 1930. German family from Pennsylvania.

 

DORA PUTMAN  Rockford Village, Mercer County

It's kinda like the old Johnny Cash song “A boy named Sue.” Dora (actually Theodore) is his real name, a son of Emanuel Putman from Dublin, Mercer County. He was here in 1910, Pennsylvania German. He is 37 OH, Goldie 28 OH, Louella M. 12 OH and Carl Eugene 8 OH. Notice he named his son in a way that's not a bit confusing. Louella will marry Lawrence Frost and be in St. Joseph County, Indiana in 1930 and Carl will be there with her.

He is a son of Peter and Margaret, born in Van Wert County. He is 82 OH and living with the Lillich family. Mom Lillich was a daughter of John's son Oliver. Both John and Treva Lillich were with Oliver in 1910.

William Henry's son was here in 1910. He is now 29 OH, Edna M. Holloway 39 KY, Charles William 4 4/12 OH and Erwin A. less than a month old OH. Also there is Edna's mother, Myra Holloway 79 ENG. Edna will die March 24, 1925. In 1930 he is married 2 years to a Margaret and has these two kids and two more. They will be in Troy, Miami County then. Southern Putmans.

He is now 25 OH and rooming. In 1900 he was listed as a stepson of Charles Moffett back in Wyandot County. He is a son of Perry Alvin Putman and Ada Wolf. His dad died and Ada married Charles here in 1899.

 

CHARLTON D. PUTNAM  Dayton, Montgomery County

Newcomer. He is 33 MA, Ethel F. 33 RI and young Charlton Jr. 7 OH. He is a son of Frederick and Elizabeth Putnam. He was shown at home in 1900 in Boston, Mass. He was born November 15, 1886 and will die here in Dayton in December 1971.They are here in 1930 too.

He has two listings both at the Miami Conservancy Englewood Dam. One states 47 KY, the other 47 OH. The OH is right. He is a son of William Austin Putman from Ross County OH. He was listed as Franklin in 1880. German family out of Virginia/West Virginia.

He is 30 OH, Stella 25 OH, Gerald 4 10/12 OH, John 2 8/12 OH and Kathryn 6/12 OH.

He is Solomon's son and was back in Van Wert County in 1910. He is 36 OH, Gertrude 34 TN, Stanley 14 OH, Opal 10 OH and Lester 6 OH. They are in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1930 and only Lester is with them then.

He is 24 OH and locked up in the Ohio State Reformatory. Hubcap theft no doubt. He looks to be Sherman E., son of Newton as shown in the 1900 census of Van Wert County.

Here since 1900, a son of Maurice and Belle. He is German from VA/WV like everyone else in the county. He is 34 OH, Etta 33 OH, Wendell 8 OH and Maribell Louise 2 8/12 OH.

He is a son of Maurice Putman and Belle James, and has been here since he was born in 1879. He is now 40 OH, Donna 37 OH, Hazel 17 OH, Madeline 14 OH, Bernice 9 OH, Mary Evelyn 7 OH, Wallace 5 OH. They are here in 1930. The son Wallace was born here November 24, 1914 and will die in Frankfort in April 1973.

He is now 71 OH, been here every day of his life, Martha is 66 OH and they have a grandson Maynard Leedum 8 OH here. Maynard was with them in 1910, but was 1 at the time so should be 11 now. Sam's daughter Bessie is/was married to Arthur Leedum and the family was here in 1910. He will die here on June 7, 1923. Like everyone in Ross County, he is German originally out of Hampshire County VA/WV.

Philip's son was born here and will spend all his life here. He is now 74 OH and batching it alone. He will die here on March 26, 1928.

He was born right here, a son of John and Margaret (German from Hampshire County VA). He is 51 OH, Ethel 37 OH and Lyle 13 OH. Ethel was born July 24, 1882 and will die here in Frankfort in March 1977.

Maurice and Belle's son has been here all his life. The family is German from Hampshire Co VA. Earl is 39 OH, Maud 37 OH, Otho 16 OH and Helen 14 OH. He is widowed in Toledo in 1930 and has his son Otho with him.

He is Donald Ross Putman a son of Byron Putman and Armenia Atty from Johnstown, Fulton County New York. He was born there in March 1892 and married Belle March 15, 1911. He will go back up there and die after 1974. Dutch Family from New York State.

He is 26 OH, Maude Hoffman, his wife, 25 OH, Wayne 5 OH, Gordon 3 7/12 OH and Murray 2 8/12 OH. He's a son of Elder Willis and Arlene (Pennsylvania German). They are here with 2 more daughters in 1930.

Peter and Sarah's son has been here all his life. He is 55 OH, Arlene Gaier 50 OH, Archie (Archibald Victor) 19 OH, Esther 17 OH, Leland (Luther Leeland) 15 OH, Deloyd Merritt 13 OH, Naomi 11 OH, Ivan 10 OH and Lula 5 8/12 OH. Elder Willis is a son of Peter and Sarah Putman. He was born May 6, 1864. His wife Arlena Mary Gaier was born October 11, 1869 and will die here June 21, 1921. Willis will die here March 26, 1928. So this is their last listing.

 

IRA V. (VICTOR) PUTMAN  Liberty, Van Wert County

The listing is under J. V. (handwriting and all that, but it is I. V.) Ira is a son of Jasper Newton Putman and Emma Frances Fortney, and he was married here in 1910. He was born July 17, 1889. He will die in Lima March 12, 1980 at age 90. He is now 30 OH, Mae Krick is 29 OH, Clifford 12 OH, B. (Bonnie) K. a daughter 8 OH, R. (Roy) M. a son 6 OH, F. (Florence) a daughter 4 3/12 OH and M. (Mabel) another daughter 1 11/12 OH. In 1910 he had a newborn son, Newton, who didn't make it till now. They are in Lima, Allen County by 1930.

 

GEORGE H. (HOWARD) PUTMAN  Ohio City, Van Wert County

Hugh's son, in fact Hugh is here as well. He is 24 OH, Emma Frieda Pflueger 24 OH, Robert E. 2 OH and Eugene 1 OH. Hugh his father (son of Isaac and Sophie from here) is 63 OH. Also there is George and Emilie Pflueger his brother and sister in laws. They are here in 1930 as is his father Hugh Putman. George was born November 14, 1895 and died December 2, 1973. He married Frieda Emma Pfleuger in 1916, and they were in Van Wert County in the 1920 and 1930 census. Frieda was born March 30, 1895 and died February 2, 1982 in Willshire. The son Robert E. L. Putman was born March 16, 1917 and will die here December 26, 1996. Hugh is a son of Isaac and Sophia Putman (Pennsylvania German). He was born January 22, 1855. He married Ellen Esther Neiford on December 2, 1875. She was born in Ohio April 4, 1858. They were in Dublin, Mercer County most of their lives. Ellen died August 14, 1906. They are there still in 1930 and Hugh is 75 then. Hugh will die back in Rockford, Mercer County September 21, 1951 at age 96.

He was born here, a son of Isaac and Sophie (Pennsylvania German). He is now 63 OH and living with his son George. He is still here in 1930 at age 75.

 

JOSEPHINE PUTMAN  Ohio City, Van Wert County

She is 26 OH and living with her dad, Charles Leasenhoff. She married one of the Putmans here.

 

LOGAN PUTMAN  Ohio City, Van Wert County

He is 35 OH, Myrtle Lois Hoffman 31 OH, Lois M. 8 OH and Kermit 6 OH. He was born here in February 1884, a son of Winfield Putman and Minerva Alspaugh. Pennsylvania German. They are here in 1930.

 

NEWTON J. (JASPER) PUTMAN  Ohio City, Van Wert County

Peter's son was born and bred here. He is now 62 OH, Emma Fortney 60 OH. Pennsylvania German family. They are here in 1930 too.

 

TAYLOR Z. PUTMAN  Ohio City, Van Wert County

Zachary Taylor Putman has been here all his life. He is now 64 OH PA OH and boarding with Mary Hoffman. His wife Maggie Hines is also in the area, but living by herself. Divorce? Zach taking up with a young chick? Who knows? Anyway, he is here still by himself in 1930 and still says he is married then.

He is Willis' son and was born here (Pennsylvania German folks). Walter Edward Putman is 28 OH, Bonnie Leona Voltz  26 OH, Helen L. 6 OH, Furman H. 5 OH and Stanley E. 4 OH.

Hugh's son is now 43 OH, Clara E. Kiser 44 OH, Gladys M. 11 OH, Mary E. 8 OH and Albert R. 3 OH. Also there is a boarder, John W. Gay 62 OH. They are in Liberty Township in 1930.

He is 50 OH and living alone. He is a son of Peter and Sarah. He was born June 1, 1867 and will die on May 2, 1924. He never married.

 

FREEMONT PUTMAN  Pleasant, Van Wert County

He is 39 OH, Lucy Krischner 38 OH.  He was born here a son of Jasper Newton Putman and Emma Frances Fortney. He was born March 16, 1880 and died June 1, 1945. They are here in 1930 and still no children.

 

ALEXANDER PUTMAN  Van Wert, Van Wert County

He is listed as Elick, but it's Alex and he is a son of Isaac Putman and Sophia Mihm from Mercer County. He is now 59 OH and living with his son in law Lon Harshman 36 OH and his wife, Alex’s daughter, Golda 32 OH. Alexander was born February 20, 1860 and he will die March 14, 1930.
