He is 43 SC, Ella his third wife 38 SC, Della O.
14 SC, Nannie 13 SC, John F. 7 SC, Emma L. 5 SC, George E. 3 SC and Sarah 2 SC.
He is a son of Robert Putman and Sarah Emma Willis from Laurens County He was first married to a Della who died in
1891. Then to Lillie Pryer who died in 1899. The two oldest girls are with
Lillie. In 1900, George was living alone in Greenville County, and the two
eldest girls were living with their grandmother Sarah Pryor. He married Ella
about 1901 or 1902. They are here in 1920 and in Florence County in
1930.
THOMAS ALEXANDER PUTMAN Abbeville, Abbeville County
Cornelius' son is 36 SC. Blanche Watson his second wife is 35 SC and a son Ansel T. 11 SC. He is a son of Cornelius Putman and Margaret Peden. He was born in Laurens County December 6, 1873. He married Ida Abbott June 2, 1894 and had the son Thomas Ansell with her. They were in Greenville in 1900. Ida died a few years later, and he then married Blanche in 1905 and they will have a son James Cornelius soon on July 10, 1910. Blanche was born October 28, 1874 and died August 18, 1968. They are all here in 1920.
BUTLER PUTMAN Belton, Anderson County
James Butler Putman is Robert and Emma Putman's son. He has married and moved from Greenville County. He is 31 SC SC SC, Elizabeth 32 GA, George M. 5 SC and Joseph 2 SC. They have bee married 8 years and he manages an ice factory.
He is 21 SC SC SC and just married to Clara Johnson. They are Blacks.
He is 50 SC SC SC and heads up a large Black family.
FLORA PUTMAN
Centerville, Anderson County
She is 29 GA FL SC single and living alone.
He is 23 SC SC SC single and living alone. He is a baggage master for the railroad. He is a son of Bluford B. Putman and Mary Brown from Laurens County. He was at home there in 1900. He will marry Lucy Self in a few years and by 1920 they are in Florence County. He is a railroad conductor by then. They are there in 1930 also.
He is a Mulatto 25 NC.
H. M. (HENRY MONROE) PUTMAN Cherokee, Cherokee County
Drury Alston's son from Gaston County North Carolina. He is 60 NC NC NC, Annie 38 SC, Sallie 10 SC and Essie 6 SC are listed here as stepdaughters. They have just married this year, and this is a second marriage for both. He was married to Emily Texana Sanders in Gaston County up through 1900. He is back there by 1920. He is a farmer.

He is a carpenter age 48 NC NC NC and says he has been married 12 years. The first name is very hard to read. I really wonder if this is some kind of dual listing for the following Cicero.

Gafney, Limestone Township, Cherokee County
This one is listed 32 SC (should be NC), Leila Bailey his wife 28 and Buford 1. He is Flavious Cicero Putman from North Carolina. He is a son of Rufus Putman from Cleveland County, North Carolina and was with his folks in Spartanburg County, South Carolina in 1900. In 1900, he was married to a Dora. His new wife is Leila Bailey. He will be listed as Frank in 1920, which is the name he generally went under. He is a house painter.
CLARENCE A. PUTMAN
Gafney, Limestone Township, Cherokee County
He is 34 NC, Alice J. Northey 44 SC and Florence 6 SC. He is a son of James Craton Putman and Amanda Wesson from Gaston County, North Carolina and now here in Limestone too. They are here in 1920 and in Mecklenburg, North Carolina in 1930. He is a weaver in a cotton mill.
GEORGE W. PUTMAN
Gafney, Limestone Township, Cherokee County
He is 21 NC, Victoria Ramsey his wife19 SC, Parnell 2, and Rebecca 3 months. He is George William Putman son of William Alexander Putman and Nancy Ann Wesson from Cleveland County. He was born May 4, 1888 and died December 12, 1960. He married Frances Victoria Ramsey November 4, 1906. They are here in Gaffney through the 1930 at least.
He is 56 NC NC NC. His wife Amanda Wesson is 55 NC, and they have Sallie 25 NC and Audie 23 NC. They are all weavers in the cotton mill. Also here is Amanda’s sister Lizzie Wesson 54 NC. He is James Craton Putman, a son of Elias Putman and Nancy Wesson. This is the James that has been living with his mother Nancy Wesson Putman for 30 years. She was the widow of Elias Putnam Junior from Cleveland County North Carolina. I have it that he was an illegitimate son of Nancy Wesson. He married Amanda Wesson on December 7, 1871. They were in Cleveland County in 1880. By 1910, they are here in Cherokee County. He died here in South Carolina in June 1918. His death certificate gave his middle name. Amanda, a widow then, was with her son Audie in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1920 and with a grandchild in Charlotte in 1930. Amanda died there in Charlotte in 1935.
DAVID J. (JORDON) PUTMAN Lewisville, Edgmoor Township, Chester County
He is a son of Samuel Putman and Artie Harden from Shelby, North Carolina. He is David Jordan Putman 42 NC NC NC, Lester Ann Poston his wife 35 NC, Bessie 15 NC. They are from Cleveland County, North Carolina. I don’t find them in 1920, but he will die November 16, 1921 back in North Carolina I think. He has his own blacksmith shop.
ROBERT K. PUTMAN

He is 39 SC SC SC, Harriet Ann 37 SC, Oscar 16 SC, Nannie 14 SC, Leslie a daughter 12 SC, Robert K. Jr. 9 SC, Josie B. 4 SC and William J. 2 SC. He is indexed as Pittman, but it looks like Putman. On the other hand I can’t find him earlier so is probably a Pittman.
CORNELIUS PUTMAN
Austin, Greenville County
A son of James Putman and Elizabeth Hughes from Laurens County. He is 63 SC SC SC, Margaret Peden 67 SC and Nancy M. 30 SC. He was born July 14, 1847 and will die here on December 28, 1914. Hopefully after a nice Christmas. Margaret is widowed here in 1920 and 1930. She was born February 15, 1843 and will die here December 10, 1930.
JAMES ROBERT PUTMAN
Austin, Greenville County
Cornelius and Margaret Putman's son is 43, Anne Randall 38, May Alice 16, James B. (Benjamin) 12, Raymond C. (Cornelius) 8, Clyde 4. He was born July 14, 1847 and married to a widow, Margaret (Peden) Thompson in 1865. Margaret was born February 15, 1843. In 1910 both are here in Greenville County, but in 1920 only Margaret, age 76, is still around with her daughter Maggie still with her in Anderson County. Same in 1930 at age 87 in Greenville County.
JOHN HARRISON PUTMAN
Austin, Greenville County
He is 39, Lula Farrow 40, Thomas L. 17, Claude Farrow 14, Carl John 7. He is a son of Cornelius Putman and Margaret Peden, and was born in Laurens County September 9, 1871. He married Lula Farrow in 1891. They are there through 1920.
Irby Dunklin is a son of William and Elizabeth Putman (and a brother to Dulcie and Zanie in nearby Fairview). He is 50 SC. Laura E. Ball his wife 43 SC, McDuffie 23 (Listed William in 1900), Robert J. 12, Benjamin Albert 10, Ludie B. 7 and Dollie T. 4. He was born June 14, 1859. Laura was born April 9, 1867. Irby died in Greenville, South Carolina May 27, 1930 and Laura died in Laurens County July 29, 1919.
NANCY PUTMAN
Chick Springs, Greenville County
She is 70 SC and the mother in law of Rufus Waldrop 53 SC. Nancy Jane Burns is Peden Putman's widow. Her daughter Martha (Mattie) was Rufus’ wife, but she has died in the last few years. Nannie was born in 1836 and will die here in 1926.

She is Drucella Putman, a daughter of William and Elizabeth Putman of Laurens County. She is 72 SC SC SC and a sister in law with Zodic Van Garrett 66 SC and Zaney C. Garrett 68 SC. Zaney is her sister. They live next door to Perry Putman.
JOHN C. (CALVIN) PUTMAN Fairview, Greenville County
He is a son of John Abner Putman and Elizabeth Jane Cheek from Laurens County. He was born September 5, 1882 and died here August 3, 1962. He is 28 SC SC SC. Eva Maude Thompson his wife is 26, Morris (Floyd Morris born January 7, 1904 and will die here November 2, 1981) 6, Marie M. 2 months old. John was born September 5, 1881 and alive in 1935. His wife was Eva Maude Thompson, and they were in Laurens County through the 1900 census, and then in Greenville County. She will die in 1927. By 1930 he has a new young wife named Janette.
LAWRENCE A. (AUSTIN) PUTNAM Fairview, Greenville County
He is 36, Maggie S. Thompson is 32, Ellen C. 12, Louis B. 10, George L. 7, Alphus B. 5 and Willie A. 1. They are living with her parents, Leard and Lizzie Thompson. He is a son of John Abner Putman and Elizabeth Jane Cheek from Laurens County. He was born December 15, 1873. He married Maggie S. Thompson about 1896. He died August 22, 1959. Maggie was born October 18, 1877 and will die December 10, 1963. They are in Greenville County through 1930.

He is 43, Rosa Etta Pearson 45, William Perry 18 and Arthur R. 16. Perry is widowed and has William here in 1930. Rosa was born October 11, 1864 and will die April 1, 1929. He is a son of Alexander Putman and Elvira Brown from Laurens County.
ARCHIBALD CRESWELL PUTNAM Greenville, Greenville County
Robert and Emma Putman's son from Laurens County. He is 36, Annie 38, Grady 12, Archibald Jr. 9, James 7, Lillia M. 3, Mack 2 and his mother Emma is there at age 64. He is here through the 1930.

Greenville, Greenville County
He is 23 SC, Maggie Whitmore 24, Ethel 3, Lucille 2 and her sister Minnie Whitmore 14 is with them. He is a son of William Wister Putman and Evelyn Allen and was born here. They are here through the 1930 and probably all their lives.

Robert Putman's widow, 64 SC, is living with her son Archibald. She will be with her son Butler here in1920.
JESSIE PUTNAM

He is a son of William Wister Putman. He is 25 and Belle Foster is 22. They are here through the 1930 at least.
JOHN L. (LEVIDUS) PUTMAN Greenville, Greenville County
William Alexander Putman and Ellen Bridges' son from Cleveland County, North Carolina. He is 24 NC and his wife Dora or Dena is 22 SC and they have Nelly 4 SC. He is a machinist in a cotton mill. They are in Winston-Salem in 1920 and 1930 and he is working at a tobacco plant then. He was born May 10, 1885 and died August 6, 1967 in Cherokee County, South Carolina.
He is 15 NC NC NC and a ‘pupil’ at the Odd Fellows Orphanage. I can’t find him in either North or South Carolina in 1900.
Mary Jane Shepardson is 80 MA and still widowed. He
widowed daughter Mary Gridley is now 59 MA and is president of the cotton mill
her dad George Putnam owned. Also here as they were in 1900 are her married
daughter Flora Dill 53 MA and her husband Charles Frank Dill 54 OH. Frank is a
lawyer here in town. She was married to George Putnam in Holliston Mass. in
1850, and Franklin Mass. in 1860 and in Boston in 1870. George was a son of Thomas and Harriett Putnam from
Connecticut and then New York. This is the ‘other’ New England family from
Yorkshire, England. George had been in Boston in the 1870s with his father,
also a cotton manufacturer. George moved down here and bought Camperdown Mills
in Greenville in the early 1870s and sold it in 1879. He then bought Batesville
Mill here in Greenville. He died here in 1890 and his daughter Mary took over
and will run the business until 1912 when she sold. Mary is here living with
the Dills in 1920 and all are retired by then. Mary Gridley is living in
Greenville all by herself at age 79 in 1930 and will die there December 19,
1939. The mom Mary Jane will die here January 3, 1918.
She is 15 NC NC NC
and a granddaughter of Mary Walker 57 NC and widowed.

He is 20 NC, Ollie Massey is 19 and Willie Mae 8 months old. I don't find him in 1900. He is still here in 1920. He is a son of William Wister Putman.

He is 28, Minnie 28, Lee Roy 4 and Myrtle 8 months. He was born in the 20 year ‘Black Hole’, so never shows with his parents. Might be a son of Cornelius Putman. They had a William born and died in 1880, and like other families may have named the next son in his honor. They were here in 1900 and just married. He is a weaver in a cotton mill. They are here in 1920 and in 1930 he is widowed in Nashville with his son LeRoy.
WILLIAM BUTLER PUTMAN

Simeon's son is 54, Mattie Garrett 38, Arthur Donald 21, Roy Eugene 20, Lola Cathleen 17, Walter Butler 12, Frank Boice 11, Nelly Louise 7, Dorothy 4. He was born October 22, 1853. He married Mattie Dell Garrett. Mattie was a daughter of Martha Tallulah Putman and Washington Allen Garrett, Martha was a daughter of James Perry Putman and Mary Frances Parks. They are second cousins. They were in Laurens County up until 1900 and here now. William died June 21, 1912. Mattie died December 5, 1915 in the Greenville Hospital. In 1920 two of the daughters are in an orphanage and the rest are living with his son Roy and his family.

Thomas' son is now 50. The last time I found him was back in 1870 with his mom. His wife Evelyn Allen is 44, Sunie Porter 23, Cora Lee 18, Carrie 17, Eva Dean 14, William T. 9, Mary 6 and Ernest 2.

He is 22 SC SC SC and a farmer. His wife Lisa is 21 SC. I don’t find him before or after. Probably a Pitman as there are a zillion of them here in South Carolina.

Leander's son is 21, Bessie 17 and his mother Sallie 59 is living with them. They and the following John and their folks were in Spartanburg County in 1900. Jessie Lee and Bessie are here through the 1930.

John Rivington Putman is a son of Leander and Sarah Putman originally from Laurens County. He is 30, Annie 30, Pauline 6, Grover 4, Lucille 1. He was also with his folks in Spartanburg County in 1900. His dad died and his mom is with his brother Jess. He will have a new Wife Bessie and be here in 1920 and 1930.
GEORGE WASHINGTON PUTMAN Laurens County
He is a son of Martin Toliver from Rutherford County, North Carolina. He is 25 NC, Addie Montjoy 23, Ralph 3 and Edna 3 months. They are in Spartanburg by 1920.
She is 28 SC and single. She is a public school teacher and boarding. She is a daughter of Bluford Putman and Mary Brow from here. She was at home in 1900.
B. (BLUFORD) PUTMAN
Dial, Laurens County
James Putman and Elizabeth Hughes' son is still here. He is now 70, Mary Brown 62, Amanda 40, Lizzie 37, Anne 30, Daisy 28 and Bluff Hugh 25. He is a farmer. This is a family that doesn't want to get married. Bluford will die later this year on October 10, 1910, and Mary will be here till she dies February 6, 1933.
CLARINDA PUTMAN
Dial, Laurens County
Clarinda Woods is the widow of Zadock Putman who died here in 1898. She is 61, Hattie 34, Maude 20. Zadock was a son of Daniel Putman and Lucinda Moore from here. He was born in 1842 and died here in 1898. Clarinda will be here through the 1920 when she is shown as 72.
He is a Black man 15 SC living with his mother and married sister.
ISABELL PUTNAM

She is the unwed daughter of Simeon and Catherine Owens Putman. She lives alone at age 59. She was born August 18, 1850 and will die here July 23, 1915.
He is a mulatto 34 SC with a family. His wife Clayden will die here May 18, 1913. He will die here April 23, 1944.
He is a married Black man 40 SC. He will die here February 2, 1940.
He is a Black man 20 SC with a new family.

He is 43 SC, Daisy Odam, his wife, 29 SC, Boyce 8 SC, Boyd 5 SC and Ernest 8 months old. He is a son of Alexander Putman and Elvira Brown from here in Dial. They are in Richland County in 1920 and they are in Richmond County, North Carolina in 1930.
He is a Mulatto 30 SC with a family. His wife is Evelyn who will die here May 29, 1951. Pink will die here October 29, 1964.

James Perry Putman's son is 54, Zannie (Nancy Boyd) 51, May 26, Corrinne 18 and Laura 9. They are in Greenville by 1920.

No birth place is listed. I think he may be David Putman's son from Cleveland County, North Carolina. He is not in any 1900 census I can find. He is 68, Lenna (a second wife) is 44, John 24, Roxie 20, Arthur 19, Marie 16, Lee Ann (?) 9 and Nannie R. 6.

William Larry Putman is 28 SC, Minnie Lee Simmons 22 SC, Ralph 5 SC and Fred 3 months SC. He is a son of John Putman and Nancy Ellen Garrett from here. He was born September 19, 1881. He married Minnie Simmons around 1902. He died May 16, 1960. Minnie was born November 11, 1887 and died September 4, 1949. He was with his folks in Spartanburg County in 1900. They are here in 1920 and in Spartanburg County in 1930.

Still here and still a widow age 41. James Ebenezer 12 is the only one still living at home. She was here in 1900, and still no idea as to who she was married.
He is 54 SC, but I can’t get to the listing. He was here in Youngs, Laurens County in 1900 and will be in 1920. Samuel Harrison Putman is a son of John Putman and Nancy Ellen Garrett from here. He was born May 26, 1856. He married Cittoria Charlotte Rose about 1882. He died April 16, 1932. Cittoria was born October 4, 1860 and died November 25, 1939.

Stephen Perry Putman is a son of John and Nancy Garret Putman. He is 47, Mattie Montjoy 47, Lydia 16, Algie (Stephen Algie) 14, Dogan (James Dogan) 13, Clayton 8 and his twin Clyde (Clyde Rose) 8. He is a policeman at Watts Mill. He was born July 17, 1858 and will die July 9, 1914. He married Martha Susan Montjoy about 1880. Mattie was born March 22, 1862 and died October 12, 1953. Mattie will be in Greenville County in 1920. She is with her then married son Clyde in Cleveland County, North Carolina in 1925 and they are there in the 1930 census. Her son James Dogan will be there as well. Clayton will be in Red Springs, Polk County, North Carolina in 1930.

Simeon Putman and Catherine Owings' son is now 65. Eliza Jane Cheek his wife is 66 and Cora 33. He is a farmer and has been married 35 years. They are here through 1930. She will die here May 25, 1930 and he will die here February 26, 1935.

He is 33 SC and his wife Nannie Martin 34 SC. Dixon Homer Putman is a son of Jeremiah Young Putman and Callie Riddle from here. He was born July 19, 1877. They were just married and are here in 1920 with some kids.

He is 27 SC and his sister Lizzie is 21 SC. They are living with Ellen Crosby as nephew and niece. They live next door to Jeremiah Young Putman and are probably his children Guy and Kitty as shown in 1900. Ellen is a daughter of John and Nancy Ellen Putman.

He is 30 SC SC SC. His wife Anna Larissa Woods 26 SC, Lucy 4 SC and William Bryon 1 SC. He is a son of Zadock G. Putman and Clarinda Woods. He was born October 20, 1879. He is in Laurens County through 1930 with his wife Anna Larissa. She is a daughter of Robert and Emma Woods from Dial, Laurens County.

He was here in 1900 living alone. He is 42, Anna Riddle 30, Ethel 7 and Willie a daughter 3. He is a son of Bluford Putman and Mary Brown from Laurens County. He was born July 20, 1867. His wife is Anna Riddle. She was born March 15, 1880 and will die in Clinton July 10, 1945. William will die here February 27, 1957. They are in Clinton, Laurens County in 1920 and 1930.

She is 45 SC, Emmie 20 GA, Thomas E. 18 GA, William 15 GA, Dianna (Dellia in 1920) 11. Her brother Rice Crumpton 35 is living there as well. She is Mary Ann Crumpton, wife or it seems widow, of William Ebenezer Putman, who was a son of J. Hamilton and Susan Putman. In 1920, Mary is listed here with her daughter working in a textile mill. The sons William E. and Thomas E. will be off with their own families in 1920 here in town.

He is 24 SC SC SC and his wife Rita 23 SC. They have been married a year and both work in a cotton mill. Hard to read the name. He probably isn’t a Putman as I can’t find him any earlier or after this. There are Pitmans here in town and all over the State.

She is 42 and boarding. She is a daughter of Leonard M. and Margaret Putman.

Robert's son from Cleveland County, North Carolina is still here widowed as he was in 1900. He is now 70 NC. At home are his daughter Lula Burlington 30 and her daughter Dorotha 8. Also there is his daughter Myrtle Williams 41 and her kids Dirlinda 16, Rudolph 8, Sarah 6 and Boyce 3. No sign of the two husbands. He won’t make the 1920.

He is 26 NC, Pearl Ethel Lindsay 24 SC, Charles 6 SC and Millie 2 SC. He is a son of Martin Toliver Putman and Anna Catherine Wilkes from Rutherford County, NC. They will be here through the 1930 census. His brother George Washington will be here in 1920 also.
He is 37 SC SC SC and boarding. He is a carpenter.

William Alexander's son is 28 NC NC NC. His wife Kate (Catherine Rebecca Parris) is 23 SC. Her mother, Mary Jane Parris 62 SC is with them. They have been married 9 years. He is a son of William Alexander Putman and Zulia Ellen Bridges from Cleveland County North Carolina. The family was in Cherokee County South Carolina since the late 1800s. James will be back there by the 1920. James was born September 29, 1881 and died September 21, 1930 in Cherokee County, South Carolina. He married Catherine Rebecca Parris in 1901. He works in a cotton mill.

He is 23 NC and living with Joseph and Sally Boland. Sally 26 NC is his sister. His mother Hester 61 NC is here too. They are kids of John and Hester Putman from here in 1900 and from Gaston County, North Carolina before that. He is a weaver in a cotton mill.

He married Margaret Bryson in 1885 and she died March 5, 1888. He then married Anna Randall in 1891. Anna was born October 17, 1870. She was a daughter of Benjamin Pope Randall and Henrietta Rebecca Snow. In 1900 and 1910 he was in Greenville County. James died in Greenville January 10, 1952. Anne died November 6, 1949. They are back in Greenville County in 1930.

He is a son of Cornelius Putman and Margaret Peden. He was born in Laurens County December 6, 1873. He married Ida Abbott June 2, 1894 and had the son Thomas Ansell with her. They were in Greenville in 1900. Ida died a few years later, and he then married Blanche Watson in 1905. Blanche was born October 28, 1874 and died August 18, 1968. He has been working in a cotton mill up till now, but now is a manager in a hotel. Ansel is a conductor on the railroad. He will soon marry Virginia Galloway and be here in 1930.

He was a circuit rider. He will die in 1926 in Oconee County, South Carolina. Martha will be in Pickens County with her married daughter Carrie in 1930.

He is 21 AR, Nina 18 NC and Gladys 2 months old SC. The AR is wrong. He is Archibald Creswell and Annie Putman's son from Anderson County. He is a weaver in a cotton mill. They are here in 1930.
SAMUEL WILLIAM PUTMAN
Central, Pickens County
Alexander Perry Putman and Elvira Brown's son is 38 SC, Katie Wilson 33 SC, Mollie 6 SC. Her mother Addie Wilson 54 SC is with them as is her widowed brother Jim Wilson 38 SC. They are all here in 1930 and Mollie is married by then. He works in a cotton mill.
BESSIE PUTMAN
Columbia, Richland County
She is 24 NC and at the State Hospital for the Insane in Columbia. She is here still in 1930 and probably forever. She is a daughter of Jordan David Putman and Lester Ann Poston from Cleveland County North Carolina. The family was in Chester County South Carolina in 1910 and I don’t find them now in 1920 anywhere. Jordan will die in 1921 though.
ROBERT D. PUTMAN
Columbia, Richland County
Alexander's son has moved from Laurens County. He is 50, Daisy Odam his wife 40, Boyd 15, Ernest 12, Ruth 8, Robert D. Junior 5 and James D. 1 1/2. They are in Richmond County, North Carolina in 1930. He is a son of Alexander Putman and Elvira Brown from Laurens County. He is a weaver in a cotton mill.
WILLIAM T. PUTMAN
Columbia, Richland County
He is 45 SC SC SC, Nancy 37 SC and there is a niece Frances Holder 18 SC with them. I believe he may be the son of William Dogan and Sally Putman. If so he was in York County in 1910 with a different wife and some kids who would be in their 20s. He is a superintendent in a cotton mill. Nancy will be widowed here and teaching in an orphanage in 1930.
CARRIE PUTMAN
Campobello, Spartanburg County
Leonard M. Putman's daughter is still here and still single at age 54, and will be here single in 1930.
She is 37 NC and widowed. She has Gordon A. (Alexander) 14 SC, Everett (William Everett) 9 NC, and twins Max and Milton (think it is Mills) 5 NC. They live with her folks Benjamin and Miranda Hughes. Evie S. Hughes was the second wife of William Alexander who died here January 12, 1917. They were married here in 1902. William was a son of Samuel Evans Putman and Artie Harden from Cleveland County, North Carolina.
