There is an obituary for Evelyn, born December 22, 1914 in Polk County North Carolina and died in Reidsville, Rockingham County North Carolina August 29, 2008. It says she was a daughter of John Lane Putnam and Louise Dula. I can’t find any John Lane Putnams, but there were two Joseph Lane Putnams right in that area. The youngest, a son of Jesse Henry Putman and Martha Caldwell was born in 1899 the same age as the mother Louise. That Joe is home with his folks in 1900 and 1910 and in 1920 and 1930 he is married to Estelle Fincannon and they are in Cleveland County North Carolina. But there is one better Joseph Lane Putnam who was a son of Jacob Putman and Ella Sanders who was born September 1891 right in Polk County where Louise was from. That Joe was in Greens Creek, Polk County with his widowed mother in 1910 and gone in 1920. I’ll bet that Joe Lane married Louise Dula in about 1913, had the 2 kids and then possibly went off to WWI and was killed in Europe. At any rate this Hammock family will be in Reidsville, Rockingham County North Carolina in 1930, and there will be another daughter Gladys born in 1920 in North Carolina.
