He was in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1930 with his first wife Edwina Delchamps. Here is what I dug up then. Okay, this is an interesting guy. He was born in Hanover, Grey County Canada September 12, 1898 and says his folks were Robert Putnam and Margaret Pratt. His full name is Cecil Alfred Putnam. Problem is that Robert died back in Canada September 13, 1896 according to his gravestone. His mother Margaret married James Forsythe in Grey County, Ontario November 24, 1899. James was born in New York and Cecil always says his dad was born in Canada, but I’ll bet his mommy never told him who his actual daddy was. I found a couple of family sheets stating no parents, but born in Joliet, Will County Illinois September 12, 1898. In 1900 the whole family was in Lockport, Will County Illinois and all were listed as Forsythe. In 1910 the whole family was in Mobile, Alabama and again everyone listed as Forsythes. In 1920 Cecil is in Camp Lee, Prince George County Virginia and is a Corporal in the Army. In 1920 the rest of the Forsythe family is still in Mobile, Alabama. Cecil went down to Alabama after getting out of the Army and married Edwina there in 1925, and then they came out here. Edwina is the daughter of Edwin Delchamps and Martha Arileete Tagert and was born in Alabama January 12, 1901 and will die in Mobile, Alabama October 24, 1932. He then married Hannah Eve Croff September 15, 1932 in Pensacola, Mississippi. Hannah was a daughter of Benjamine Louis Croff and Hannah Elizabeth McKnight and was born July 3, 1904 in Juarez, Baja California Mexico. She will die in Higley, Maricopa County Arizona February 8, 1998. Cecil will die in Phoenix, Maricopa County February 3, 1973. Cecil and Hannah were here in Graham County in 1935 and now in 1940.

ARIZONA 1950 CENSUS

In the 1940 census and especially now in the 1950 Census, the handwriting on the sheets is a bit better. But now that people are using Ancestry and Family Search and putting their family trees up on the sites, and the sites themselves have much better search engines and send you to a whole bunch of info docs and records. I now can find a family sheet on about everyone and many on the wife’s side. When I first started doing this in the very early 1970s, all that was available to see was up to the 1900. There was no such thing as on-line and the computers then were the size of a locker room. I had to drive out to Waltham, Massachusetts to the U. S. Library, beg for a film real of the dates and State I wanted and then look at it through a visual device in a back dark room and literally go page to page, county to county and write the info down on paper with a pencil. At that time, really the most people doing genealogy were older women, mostly retired school teachers in their 70s and 80s, who would send you hand written trees and info and stuff that they had back a couple of generations. Once in a while I would get an actual typewritten document. Wow! Got much better in the 1990s. Now it is soooo easy to get info you didn’t think was possible. Back in the 70s I tried calling folks, and got a hold of several who had info. Now just an e-mail can bring in a ton of info. Anyway, really enjoy these censuses, and if you can add or correct, please let me know so I can help others.
