‘Rupert’ is 21 IL IL IL, born in July of 1878, the brother of Lulu Cook 24 IL IL IL, with whom he was enumerated. She is listed as single but has a daughter ‘Israel Trueman’ 1 IL IL IL. Now, Rand Putnam pulled off another good one. You have to remember the initial writing was done in the field by the actual census takers who were probably out of work illiterates. Then the ‘recorder’ tried his best to decipher the spelling, ages, and all. So this reads the way I show here. But Rand looked at the 1880 census in Brown County of Henry Francis Putman and Virginia Austeen Shackleford and they had a perfect match of Rufus 2 and Lucinda 4. So that’s them. I’ll be the writer wrote the gal’s first name of LuLu from the ‘Lu’ of Lucinda and her last name of Cook from ‘cinda’, or at least that was the best the recorder could figure. See, bad bad writing. Rupert sure looks like Rufus or visa versa or whatever. So LuLu or really Lucinda’s last name is really Putman. I’ll bet the 1 year old daughter’s name was Irene not Israel and Trueman was his interpretation of Putman. What ya think??
