ILLINOIS 1910 CENSUS

 

AMOS PUTMAN  Clayton, Adams County

The son of John William Putman and Hannah Aber from next door in Brown County. He is listed as 22 IL.  His wife, Stella Vaughn, is 26 IL.  The children are: Bonnie 5 IL, and Everett J. 1 IL. He was born June 2, 1885 in Mount Sterling, Brown County and will die here in 1949. He married Stella July 26, 1903. Interesting, Amos was a twin (other one died) and he and Stella will have one set of twins and one set of triplets, but none will survive. Gene thing.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Ellington, Adams County

The son of Rufus William Putnam, William Henry Putnam is 53 IL.  His wife Maggie (Margaret B. Duncan) is 47 IL.  The children at home are: Earl 21 IL, Bennett 18 IL, and Helen 11 IL. He was born right here in Ellington, and will be here in 1920.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Quincy, Adams County

The son of Daniel Putman and Lucinda Colbert from Brown County Illinois, John is listed as 70 OH. His wife, Sarah H. Stone, is 64 IL.  Also in the household is one non relative. He still runs a grocery store and will die here in 1919. Sarah will still be here until 1929 when she dies at age 85.

 

AMBROSE PUTMAN  Mt. Sterling, Brown County

The son of Daniel, Ambrose is listed as 75 OH.  His wife, Margaret (Margaret Patricia Kendrick), is 73 IL.  Still at home is their daughter, Kate, 48 IL. Also in the household is his sister-in-law, Sarah Pickett, 81 KY.

 

LUCINDA PUTMAN  Mt. Sterling, Brown County

The daughter of Henry Francis Putman and Virginia Shackleford. Lucinda is listed as 32 IL, a servant for Aaron Stinson. Also here is her sister Flossie (Florence Ellen) Putman 17 IL. Their folks have died and the kids are all over the place. Cinda will be out in Tulare County California along with her sister Flossie who will marry Oscar Warren in 1914. They are all there in 1920 and 1930. Cinda will be a nurse by then. She was born January 15, 1877 and will die February 14, 1947. Florence was born October 7, 1893 and will die out in California September 3, 1969.

 

LUCY PUTNAM  Mt. Sterling, Brown County

She is listed as 31 IL.  Her son, Frank, is 8 IL.  There are four non relatives. Not sure on this one. Might be a duplicate of the above listing, but if so I have no clue as to who Frank or Francis is. They don’t show up in 1920.

 

ALVIN PUTMAN  Mt. Sterling, Brown County

The son of John Putman and Sophia Weaver. He is listed as 64 IL, and is living by himself. He never married.

 

EDWARD PUTNAM  Versailles, Brown County

Edward is listed as 31 IL.  His wife, Lou (Louisa Covey), is 26 IL.  Their daughter, Wilma, is 3 IL.  Also in the household is Edward's brother, Johnnie Putnam, 19 IL. Rufus Edward and John Oliver Putman are sons of Henry Francis Putman and Virginia Shackleford. He married Louisa March 30, 1904. He will be here until he dies April 26, 1954.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  None listed, Brown County

The son of John William Putman, George Washington Putman, is listed as 48 IL.  His second wife, Jennie Hendricks, is 40 IL.  The children at home are: Ruth 15 IL, Iona 3 IL, Paul 2 IL, and Margaret, just born in January and no age given, IL. He married Jeannie here in 1905. He was married to Amanda Thomas who according to cemetery records doesn’t die till 1949, so they must have divorced in the early 1900s. He and Amanda were living with her folks in 1900 here in Elkhorn. Not sure what happened.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  None listed, Brown County

The son of John George Putman and Sarah Frances Gordley, James Warren Putman is listed as 43 IL.  His wife, Amanda E. Bell, is 40 MO.  They were married here December 24, 1890. The children at home are: Lucy 18 IL, James 16 IL, and John 14 IL.  Also here is his mother, Sarah Frances Putman, listed as 75 KY. They were in Schuyler County in 1900 and will be here still in 1920.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  None listed, Brown County

The son of Henry Putman and Martha Keyes, John William Putman is listed as 55 IL.  His wife, Jane, (Hannah Jane Aber), is 55 IL.  Their daughter, Mame, is 25 IL.

 

JOHNNIE PUTNAM  None listed, Brown County

He is listed as 19 IL, the brother of Edward Putnam, with whom he was enumerated. See that listing above. He is John Oliver Putman, a son of Henry Francis Putman and Virginia Shackleford. He was born June 23, 1894 and will die here January 27, 1918.

 

NELLIE PUTMAN  None listed, Brown County

The widow of George Allen Putman, Nellie Kees is listed as 42 IL.  The children are: Lois 13 IL, Verner 11 IL, Leon 9 IL, and Opal 6 IL.

 

SALADA (SALENA) PUTMAN  None listed, Brown County

The widow of Daniel Putman who died in 1892. Salena Price is listed as Salada Putman, 79 GA.  Also in the household are: her granddaughter, Delia Wilson, 35 IL, and her stepson, Theodore Putman, 52 IL. Salena was Daniel’s second wife, and that is why Ted is listed as a stepson. Della Wilson is a daughter of Matilda Putman. Matilda was Daniel’s in his first marriage with Louisa Perry.

 

SARAH PUTMAN  None listed, Brown County

The widow of John George Putman, Sarah Frances Gordley, is 75 KY. She is living with her son James Putman. Sarah will move back to where she originally came from and die near Lexington, Kentucky December 26, 1913.

 

STEPHEN E. PUTMAN  None listed, Brown County

The son of John George Putman and Sarah Gordley, Stephen Ellsworth is listed as 48 IL.  His wife, Laura Ellen Hills, is 46 IL.  The children are: a daughter, Halcyon 26 IL, Margie 24 IL, Zoe Elsie 17 IL, and a son, Murray 10 IL.

 

THEODORE PUTMAN  None listed, Brown County

The son of Daniel Putman and his first wife Louisa Perry, Theodore is listed as 52 IL. He is living with his stepmother Selena Price Putman.

 

ANNA PUTMAN  None listed, Brown County

The daughter of Daniel Webster Putman and Harriet Harper. Anna Laura Putman is listed as 44 IL. She never married, and will be here till she dies in 1932.

 

CECIL PUTNAM  Versailles, Brown County

Cecil is listed as 5 IL, the grandson of Anne Mehl, with whom he was enumerated. He is a son of Clarence Vel Putman and Clyta Mehl from Mount Sterling.

 

JAMES A. (ARTHUR) PUTMAN  Versailles, Brown County

He is James Arthur Putman, the son of Henry Francis Putman and Virginia Shackleford. He is listed as 35 IL.  His wife, Eliza, is 29 IL.  The children are: Daisy M. 13 IL, and Lela J. 9 IL. He was married to Annie Knowles back in the 1900. Eliza is a new one, and I’m sorry but I don’t have her last name. He was born March 10, 1875, andwill die in Quincy, Adams County (next door to Brown) March 1, 1913.

 

EDITH PUTNAM  Champaign, Champaign County

Edith is listed as 14 IL UN IL a niece of Charles Hays. She was with her mother Lyna in 1900. Her mother was listed in 1900 as IL OH OH. In this census Charles’ wife Bertha Hayes is 30 IL OH OH and they all live with Frank Andrews who is 29 IL OH OH. So, I guess Edith’s mommy was an Andrews, but no ideas as to who her dad was.

 

JANE PUTMAN  Champaign, Champaign County

Jane McCullum is now the widow of James Putman, Jane is listed as 67 IL.  Her son, Ora O., is 27 IL. No one else is listed in the household. James was a son of Thomas Putnam from Vermont and then Vermillion County Illinois.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Champaign, Champaign County

John is listed as 37 IN.  His wife, Helena Schaede, is 40 IL.  The children are: Clyde, 6 IL, and Pauline, (no age is listed, but under 1 as she is 11 in 1920), born in IL. He is a son of James and the above Jane Putnam. He was in Fountain County Indiana in 1870 at home, and here in 1880 and 1900.

 

LOUIS B. PUTNAM  Champaign, Champaign County

Louis Watkins is listed as 21 IL, and was enumerated with James C. Hanley. He is a son of Edgar Putnam and Mary McLeod from Ogden. His folks are currently in Swisher County Texas.

 

MYRTLE PUTNAM  Champaign, Champaign County

She is 23 US IN, is divorced and has her son Clarence 4 IL IL IN with her. She is living with her stepparents William and Nellie Martin. She is Myrtle Goble and was married to Earl Putnam, son of George Vincent Putnam and Susan Louise Burke. Earl was in Normal, McLean County Illinois in 1900 in an orphanage and is currently in Springfield. He will die on September 3, 1913 in Springfield, Illinois and is buried there in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.

WILLIAM J. PUTMAN  Champaign, Champaign County

He is listed as 23 IL, a lodger with Joseph S. Bash, with whom he was enumerated. Looks like a dual listing for the son of James and Emma Putnam from Rosamond. He is also shown at home now.

 

GEORGE W. (WILLIAM) PUTNAM  Compromise (Ogden), Champaign County

George William Putnam is 57 MA.  His wife Florinda Calhoun Kirkpatrick is 52 CDN (actually IN).  The children at home are: Walter Earl 27 IL, Harry Trotwood 23 IL, Dora Annette 20 IL, Ruth May 17 IL, Mary Magdalene 14 IL, and Helen Marguerite 10 IL. He has been here in Ogden since the 1870s. He is a son of William Pitt Putnam and Minerva Harris. He was born in Rochester, Monroe County New York May 3, 1852. He married Florida April 22, 1877 in Muncie, Vermillion County. Florida was born in Tippecanoe, Indiana March 25, 1858 a daughter of Samuel Clinton Kirkpatrick and Elizabeth Bryant. She will die August 3, 1944. George will die in Muncie December 12, 1913.

 

HENRY PUTNAM  Compromise (Ogden), Champaign County

The stepson of Grego E. Kienietz, and son of Fred Putnam and Anna Behrens. Anna has since married Grego. (see 1900 under the ‘various’ kids in Ogden). Henry is listed as 21 IL, a hired man for George Fruhling. His sister Minerva 23 IL is here too.

 

CHARLES M. (MARSH) PUTNAM  Condit, Champaign County

The son of Luther E., Charles M. is listed as 44 OH.  His wife, Anna Mae McDowell, is 38 IN.  The children at home are: Edith M. 20 IL, Charles R. 17 IL, Douglas P. 13 IL, Leonard M. 10 IL, Elizabeth 7 IL, and Eleanor ?? IL, He was born in Columbus, Ohio September 17, 1865. He married Anna here March 14, 1889. They are all in Gratiot County Michigan by 1920.

 

CHARLES W. (WICKLIFFE) PUTNAM  Condit, Champaign County

Charles is listed as 44 IL.  His second wife Susan Clark is 43 IL. The children are: Katy 12 IL, and George D. 8 IL. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Phebe Condit. He was born right here April 4, 1866. He married Tina Yexley here on March 6, 1893. She died February 14, 1902 and he married Susan B. Clark September 4, 1904. They are here in 1920 and 1930 and probably forever.

 

LEE F. (FRANCIS) PUTNAM  Condit, Champaign County

Lee F. Putman, is listed as 49 IL.  His wife, Carrie M. McDowell, is 47 IN. The children at home are: Wayne E. 22 IL, Lee C. 19 IL, Hazel M. 14 IL, Willis M. 12 IL, and Louise M. 8 IL. Levi has been here quite a while, look back to 1900 for his line.

 

LAWRENCE PUTMAN  Stanton, Champaign County

He is listed as 19 IN, a hired man for Robert Johnston. Another of the ‘odd kids’ in Ogden in 1900. He is Harm Putnam, son of Fred Putnam and Anna Behrens of Ogden.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Urbana, Champaign County

George is listed as 69 OH.  His wife, Eliza is 68 VT.  There are no children listed.

 

JAMES PUTNAM  Rosemond, Christian County

The son of John Putnam and Flora Hawley, James is listed as James Putman, 61 MA.  His wife, Emma (Emma Sarah Paine), is 59 IL.  The children at home are: William 22 IL, and Flora 16 IL.

 

W. (WALTER) E. PUTNAM  Taylorville, Christian County

He is listed as W. E. Putman 25 IL.  His wife, Goldie, is 23 IL.  Their son, Shelby, is ?? IL.  Shelby is about a year old based on being 11 in 1920. He is a son of James Putnam and Emma Paine from Rosemond and listed right above. He was single here in 1900. He will be in East Saint Louis, St. Clair County in 1920 and 1930.

 

A. J. (ANDREW JACKSON) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

A. J. is listed as 55 IN.  There is no wife listed.  The children at home are: Mary 19 IL, and Lizzie 17 IL. He is a son of Thomas Putnam from Vermillion County. The two children belong to his brother Charles. They were all in Vermillion County in 1900.

 

ALICE PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Alice is listed as 52 IL, the sister-in-law of Ernest A. Fairfax-Scott, and his wife Judith 47 IL is her sister. The two gals were here single in 1900, and both off and married by 1920. They are daughters of Brower Putman from New York. They were with him in Schuyler County in 1880.

 

ALTO PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Alto is listed as 34 IN.  His wife, Millie, is 28 MI.  There are no children listed. He is a son of William and Belle Putman. He was home here with them in 1900.

 

ARTHUR (ARTHURA) C. PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Arthur C. is listed as 47 NY and widowed.  Also in the household is a non relative. Couldn’t find him and then Rand Putnam found out he was a she named Arthura. Sorry but that doesn’t open Pandora’s Box either. Most likely not a Putnam or Putman at all, at least she isn’t listed as such in the 1910 telephone book or e-mail listings in Chicago for 1910 or even 1911.

 

BERTHA PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Bertha is listed as 24 IL divorced and the daughter of Robert Dunn, with whom she was enumerated. Her son Robert is 3 IL. Bertha was very briefly married to Richard Edward Putman March 27, 1906 and then separated after the son Robert Victor Putman was born in 1907. Richard Edward Putman is a son of Victor Charles Putman and Elizabeth Ann Ward from here in Chicago. He is currently listed with them in Oak Park, Cook County a suburb of Chicago up the coast of Lake Michigan. Bertha is a daughter of Robert Dunn and Mary Elizabeth Bradberry and was born here in Chicago June 2, 1885 and will die in Cook County October 22, 1918. She will soon marry George W. Mullenix in Chicago January 13, 1911. The son Robert will be in La Grange Cook County in 1920 listed as Victor R. In 1930 he is in Carondelet, St. Louis County Missouri listed as Victor Putman 23 IL a private in the Army at Jefferson Barracks. And in 1940 he is married in Clay County Arkansas. Because of the name Victor and the Putman spelling, I guess he is from the New York Dutch line.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

The son of Henry Putman and Anne Hawn from Elgin, Ontario. He is listed as Charles Putman, 67 CDN.  His wife, Rachael Ostrander is 60 CND.  The children at home are: a daughter, Alta 39 CDN, and a son, Warner C. 25 CDN. They were here in 1900. The line is Dutch, and it is in the 1900 entry. His son James is here in Chicago and is listed shortly. By 1920 only Warner will still be here in Chicago. The son William is already out of town. They aren’t listed in 1920, but Rachel is widowed here in 1930 at age 80.

 

CHARLES H. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as Charles H. Putman, 47 IL.  His wife, Emma L. Grimm, is 42 WI.  The children at home are two daughters: Grace M. 11 IL, and Marion L. 7 IL. He is a son of Daniel and Louisa Putnam from Pike County. He was there in 1870, then the family moved to Missouri by 1880 and he was here by 1900. Emma is widowed here in 1920.

 

CHARLES H. (HARRISON) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as Chas H. Putnam, no age listed, born in US (actually 42 IL), a lodger with John A. Wallace. He is a son of John Putnam and Eliza Sandow of Jo Daviess County. He was here with his mom in 1900. He is a manufacturer’s rep for a company in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was born in Warren, Illinois July 25, 1868 and will die of tuberculosis in a hospital in Ashville, North Carolina on December 3, 1916. At the time of his death, he said he was married and the info was given by his wife Marian A. Putnam. She is in Ashville, North Carolina widowed in 1920, 1930 and 1940. We don’t have any more info on who she was though.

 

CHRIST PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Christ is listed as 58 IL, a boarder with Henry Hunt, with whom he was enumerated. He is a son of Victor Putnam from De Kalb County. He has been in McHenry County up till now.

 

CLARENCE PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Clarence is listed 56 VT.  His wife Eva is 40 WA. They are listed as Mulattos. He will die and Eva is here in 1920.

 

CLYDE E. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Clyde E. is listed as 31 NE, a lodger with Casper Enders, with whom he was enumerated. He is a son of Samuel D. Putnam. In 1880 he was at home in Edison Precinct, Furnas County Nebraska.

 

CHALIE (CHARLIE) PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

The name is probably Charlie and is listed as 42 US, a lodger with Bartholomew Burke.

 

EDWARD PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Edward is 42 NY.  His wife Edith DeWolfe is 32 IL. The children are: Elaine 4 IL, and Edwin De Wolfe IL, no age is listed, probably under a year. Edith is widowed and has the kids in Grand Rapids Michigan in 1920 and 1930.

 

EDWIN PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Edwin is listed as 47 WI.  His wife, Mary, is 39 CDN.  The children are: Serena 17 WI, and Angus 14 WI. Edwin is a son of Sereno James Monroe and Jane Putnam from Janecille, Rock County Wisconsin. He was married there in 1900.

 

ELBERT V. (VICTOR) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Elbert is listed as 54 WI, a brother of Helen M. Putnam. Helen was living with their father Erastus Putnam in Maine, Cook County in 1900. Erastus died here in Chicago January 18, 1907. Erastus was a son of Asa Putnam and Mary Taggart of New Hampshire and then New York. Erastus was in Waukesha County Wisconsin and then in Waupaca County Wisconsin.

 

ELIZABETH A. PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Elizabeth Ann is listed as 70 CND, the mother of Caroline E. Putman 25 CDN. Elizabeth Ann Dunn is the widow of George Young Putman from St. Catherine’s, Lincoln County Ontario. They were all there in the 1881 Canadian Census. The family must have come down to Kansas in the later 1880s or 1890s as Elizabeth was widowed here in the State 1895 census and in Atchison, Kansas in 1900. This is a Dutch line going back into New York State. They are here in 1920 and Carrie is here in 1930 and 1940.

 

EUGENE PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

The son of Thomas M. Putman of St. Francis County MO, Eugene V. is listed as 32 MO, Anna 23 IL, and Eugene 2 IL. They are lodgers with Del Franch, (French?). Don’t find them in 1920 yet, but in 1930 he is the editor of a daily paper in Wichita, Kansas.

 

FLORENCE PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

The daughter of Charles C. Putnam from here in Chicago. She is listed as Florence Putman, 14 IL, the grand daughter of Fillamire Weigley, with whom she was enumerated.

 

FRANK A. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

The son of George and Sarah Putnam of St. Clair County. Frank A. is listed as 25 IL.  His wife, Helen A. Larson, is 23 IL.  Their son, Byron R., no age given, was just born in Illinois. Frank's family is from Ontario, Canada. They are still in East St. Louis.

 

FRANK A. (AUSTIN) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as Frank Putman, 63 MA.  There is no wife listed, Belle must have died.  The children at home are: Benjamin 34 IL, Edna P. 26 CT, and Elvira A. 22 IL. He was here in 1900 as well. The Edna shown here is the wife of his son Benjamin. They were married here in Chicago December 24, 1908 in a nice Christmas Eve ceremony. Delia Edna Pierce was born Griswold, Connecticut July 1, 1883 and will die August 23, 1974 in Anaheim, California. He is a son of Benjamin Clayton Putnam and Elvira Whipple Dudley. He was born in Danvers, and then lived in Chelsea, Mass. He was in Hyde Park, Illinois in 1880, and here in 1900. He runs a dry goods store here in Chicago.

 

FRED PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Fred is listed as 20 CDN, a roomer with Matte Meade, with whom he was enumerated.

 

FRED M. (MONTGOMERY)  PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Fred M. is listed as 32 MI.  His wife Alice Maud Murphy is 29 MI.  The children are: Mary M. 6 IL, Alice D. 4 MI, and John W. 2 MI.  Also in the household is a non-relative. In 1880, he just pops up as a grandson of Edward Schryer in Hamtrack, Wayne County Michigan. Found a sheet that he is Fred Montgomery Putnam a son of John Egglestone Putnam and Ellen Schryer and was born in Port Huron, St. Clair County Michigan June 20, 1877 and will die here in Chicago July 12, 1945. According to the Sheet he was Minneapolis in 1918 and here in Chicago ever since. In the 1880 Michigan Census his folks John E. Putnam and wife Ellen Schryer were in Detroit, Wayne County and his dad was born in Lockport, Niagara County New York in 1845 Family goes back to John Cornelius Putnam in Monroe County New York to Nathan Putnam from Worcester Massachusetts to Isaac Putnam and Rachel Pratt from Sutton, Massachusetts To Isaac Putnam and Ann Fuller from Salem Village, now Danvers, Massachusetts etc. back to England.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

George is 54 NY.  His wife, Catherine, is 56 IRL.  The children at home are: Sarah 23 IL, and Catherine 16 IL. Here in 1900, and still here in 1920.

 

HANNAH W. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Hannah W. is listed as 75 MA, the mother of Ida B. Putnam, with whom she was enumerated. They were here in 1900. She seems to be the widow of Charles Edwin Putnam from Richland County Wisconsin as shown in 1850. Both Hannah and Ida are not around in 1920 though. Ida is here in 1930 though.

 

HELEN E. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Helen Elise Peabody is the widow of Joseph Watson Putnam. She was here with the kids in 1900. Joe had died by then. See that listing. She is listed as 64 NH.  Her daughter, Ethel, is 36 LA.  There is also a nonrelative.

 

HELEN M. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Helen M. is listed as 61 WI.  Her brother, Elbert V., is 54 WI. There is also a non relative. She was living with her father Erastus Putnam in Maine, Cook County in 1900. Erastus was a son of Asa Putnam and Mary Taggart of New Hampshire and then New York. Erastus was in Waukesha County Wisconsin and then in Waupaca County Wisconsin.

 

HENRY PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as 39 PA and his wife Rose 35 PA and married 10 years. There is a death record in Michigan for a Henry Roberts Putnam, wife Rose, who died in Coldwater, Michigan March 29, 1912. His folks were listed as J. D. Putnam born NY and Mary Roberts born CAN. This makes him a son of John Rice DeGarmo Putman and Mary Ann Roberts. That family was in Brooklyn, New York City in 1850 and 1860. Henry was born there February 28, 1861. I can’t find him in 1870 or 1880. He married Minnie Winona Sims in Wood County West Virginia on May 7, 1889. He listed his folks as J. D. Putman and Mary Ann Roberts. She died or they split and he married Rose about 1899. He and Rose are in Long Beach, California in 1940. Dutch family from New York State.

 

HORACE T. (THOMAS) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is the son of Thomas H. Putnam, and was at home in Franklin, Norfolk County Mass. in 1860. This is the ‘Other’ New England family. Horace is listed as 59 MA.  His wife, Ellen, is listed as 59 MA. Their son, James, is 52 IL, but it should be 32 IL. They have been here in Chicago since the 1870s.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

James is listed as 35, but the state he was born is not listed. He is a lodger with Jane Stewart. He looks to be the son of James Franklin Putnam of Adams, Washington County, Ohio. His folks are listed earlier. They all have been here since the late 1800s. They were married here June 30, 1902. He will die here June 26, 1918. Grace is here in Berwyn, Cook County with the kids in 1920.

James W. is listed as 59 NY.  His wife, Minnie A. Scott, is 50 OH.  There are no children listed, but their son Harry Anson is married here in Chicago now. He is a son of Jerome Putnam and Martha Skinner from Batavia, NY. They were married in Kalamazoo, Michigan October 5, 1876. They were in Flint, Genesee County Michigan in 1880. Rand found a death certificate that a James W. Putman died in 1912 in Ohio and was buried in Chicago and his dad’s name was William. So??

Jennie is listed as 64 NY.  Her daughter, Florence, is 27 (should be 37) IL.  Also in the household are three nonrelatives. Jennie Barney is the second wife and now widow of Winthrop Davis Putnam. They were here in 1880 and 1900. He died January 15, 1907 and is buried at the National Cemetery in Milwaukee. He won the Medal of Honor in the Civil War and is buried in a Military Cemetery. Jennie was born in Buffalo, Erie County New York July 26, 1839 and will die here in Chicago July 22, 1913.

Jeremiah is listed as 28 NJ NJ CT.  His wife, Bertha Johanna Bijick, is 23 IL.  The children are: Pearl 8 IL, Harold 6 IL, Jerald L. 5 IL, Ruby 3 IL, and Myrtle 2 IL. He was single here in 1900, and then married Bertha in Lake County Indiana a few miles from here October 17, 1901. They will be in Van Buren County Michigan in 1920, and he will be back here widowed by 1930. He is a son of Jeremiah and Melvina Putnam from Rahway New Jersey. Right now it looks like his folks have divorced or something.

The son of Samuel Porter Putnam, John P. is listed as 65 IL, the father-in-law of Samuel W. Doran. He was married here in 1880 and 1900 and will still be here in 1920.

 

JOSEPH PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Joseph is listed as 40 KY KY IRE.  His wife listed Delia Minnehan, is 36 WI.  The children at home are: Thomas Marvin 8 IL, and James 5 IL.  Also in the household is his brother-in-law, James Minnehan 30 WI. They have been married 12 years and were here in 1900 and will be in 1920. I don’t find them (mis-indexed) in 1930. Joseph McCoy Putnam will die here in 1940. Delia is widowed in the 1940 census taken in mid-April, and will die here herself October 6, 1941. His Illinois Death Index has him as being born in Louisville, Jefferson County Kentucky December 18, 1870 and he was a son of Nathan Putnam and Catherine McCoy and will die here April 2, 1940. Nathan Henry was a son of Dr. Joseph Whitney Putnam and I have him marrying Nancy Spaulding in Adair County Kentucky November 10, 1875. So he must have either married Catherine very early in 1870 to have Joseph, named for his grandfather, in December or had Joseph out of wedlock. At any rate they weren’t together in 1875.

Joseph Robie Putnam is listed as 74 ME.  His wife, Alice Whiting, is 68 IL.  The children at home are: Helen 35 IL, and Henry 25 IL.  There is one non-relative in the household also. See the 1900 listing here for his line. Joseph will die here later this year, and Alice on January 19, 1919. The son Henry will be in New Rochelle, New York in 1920 and die in Sarasota, Florida in the 1970s. Helen just graduated from the University of Chicago in 1908 with a Bachelors of Education degree. She will marry Eugene Plumb Andrews a professor of archaeology in the Department of Classics at Cornell, in 1919. They are living there in Ithaca, New York in 1920 and 1930. He will die in 1957 and she in 1961.

The son of William A. Putman from here, Leo Putman, is listed as 34 IN.  His wife, Mary, is 31 IL.  The children are: Catherine M. 4 IL, and Corine L. 4 IL.  There are three non relatives here too. He is widowed, or at least without Mary, here in 1920.

She is listed as Lula, but is Leila 18 IL, the niece of Harry Holloway. She is a daughter of Clay Putnam and Jessie Hesselrigg from Sangamon County. Her mom died in 1898 and Clay took off. Leila was living with her mom’s folks William and Lucy Hesselrigg in Mechanicsburg, Sangamon County in 1900 with her sister Frances.

She is 41 IL single and boarding. She is proprietor of a fancy --- store. She is a daughter of George Boardman Putnam and Alice Guild. She was at home in Aurora, Kane County in 1880. She has been here since the early 1900s. She’ll be running a boarding house here by 1940 at age 71. Never married and will die in Dalton, Muskegon Michigan March 4, 1944.

They live with their married daughter Irene 31 IL IN CT and her husband Louis Badger Forbes 29 IL. Irene was born January 15, 1879 and will die here September 26, 1951. Louis was born August 15, 1880 and will die October 26, 1953. They have been married 6 years. Otto has been here since 1900 and in Livingston County with his folks before that. He’ll be here in 1920.

Patrick is listed as 38 IL. His wife, Abbie McDole, is 30 ME.  There are no children listed. Pat is a son of Stephen C. Putnam and Susan Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. He was born January 9, 1872 in Harrison, Winnebago County Illinois and was at home there in 1880. He was single in South Springs, New Mexico in 1900 working on an oil well. He married Abbie McDole by 1910. They are here in 1920 and 1930. He will die Christmas Eve December 24, 1935. The children at home are: Raymond 22 MI, William 17 MI, and Elsie 14 MI. He is a switchman for the Railroad. He will die in 1913 and is buried back in Jackson, Michigan. Anna is here in 1920 with her son William.

He is an electrical engineer 28 IL IL IL. His wife Melissa Golmar is 28 WI WI VA. They have been married 6 years and have Wilton E. 4 IL. He is a son of Judson Putnam and Christine Brening from Waukegan. They are here in 1920 and by 1930 and his widowed dad will be with him, though right now he is up the Lake still in Waukegan.

He is in Evanston 1920 through 1940. He is a son of Daniel Putnam and Louisa D. Fowler and was born in Kinderhook, Pike County Illinois in 1857 and will die in Chicago August 10, 1944. Family from New England to New York to here.

Charles Henry Putnam is 29 IA.  His wife, Lulu Mabel Botts, is 29 NE. There are no children listed. He is a son of Henry Harrison Putnam and Cornelia Ann Chamberlain. He was born in Taylor County Iowa, went to Walla Walla, Washington, and married Lulu there July 17, 1907. His family is originally from Wardsboro, Vermont and Massachusetts before that. They are in Du Page County in 1920 and in DeKalb County in 1930.

He is listed as 31 IA.  His wife, Ical Carr, is 30 IA. He is another son of Henry Harrison and Cornelia Putnam from Taylor County Iowa. He was home there in 1880 and 1900.

Ernest Tucker Putnam is listed as 26 IA.  His wife, Bessie, is 24 IL.  There are no children listed. He was in Carroll County in 1900 and will be back there in 1920. In 1900, he was with his mother Sarah Morrison.

He is listed as 33 ME ENG ME. His wife Abby Boyce is 25 IL NY CAN. They live with her parents Sidney 73 NY and Margaret 68 CAN Boyce. He is a son of Charles and Mary Putnam from Maine. They were here in 1880 and he was with his widowed mother in Chicago in 1900. I don’t find them in 1920, but Abbie is widowed in Chicago in 1930.

He is listed as 63 IL, a boarder with Thomas Stood, with whom he was enumerated. Alonzo Putnam is a son of Ransom Putnam and Anna Sumner and was born in St. Charles, Kane County Illinois in about 1848. He was at home with his folks in St. Charles in 1870 and then married to Eliza Gazelle Sumner in Nunda, McHenry County in 1880. Eliza was a daughter of Benjamin Sumner and Sally Whithead and was born February 15, 1855 in Two Rivers, Manitowoc County Wisconsin. They were in Nunda, McHenry County in 1900 and then Eliza died there May 26, 1901. I can’t find him in 1920.

 

LORENZO PUTMAN  None listed, Cook County

Lorenzo is listed as 74 NY (PA).  His wife, Anna Diffenbaugh, is 64 PA.  Also in the household is his niece, Lucile Maher, 14 IL. He is a son of Joseph Putnam and Joanna Russell of North East Township, Erie County Pennsylvania. He was shown there in the 1850 through the 1870. In 1880, they were in Hicksville, Defiance County Ohio. They were here in Cicero in 1900.

 

MARTHA PUTMAN  None listed, Cook County

Martha is listed as 41 IL, and she is living by herself. She is a daughter of George B. Putnam and Alice Guild. She was at home in Aurora, Kane County in 1880. She is still single and in Chicago in 1920 and 1930.

 

ALBERT C. PUTNAM  Oak Park, Cook County

The son of S. K. Putnam, Albert C. is listed as 51 MN.  His wife Amy C. is 46 IL.  The children at home are: Leigh B. 21 IL, and Dorothy 20 IL.  Also in the household is his brother, Frank H. Putnam 47 MN. Family has been here for a long time, but never could figure what the S. K. stood for. They will go out to Colorado soon where Albert’s mother has been since the 1870s. Albert will die out there in 1919, and Amy is widowed with her daughter Dorothy in Palo Alto California in 1920 and 1930. Amy will return later to Colorado, or at least be buried there along with Albert in Wheat Ridge, Jefferson County Colorado. She will die in 1945. Albert’s mother Mary will also die out there January 14, 1913. They are all buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheat Ridge.

VICTOR C. (CHARLES) PUTMAN  Oak Park, Cook County

He is 49 IL NY CAN and an engineer for the railroad. His wife Elizabeth Ann Ward is 51 CAN ENG ENG. They have been married 26 years and have Richard E. 26 IL, Alfred E. 24 IL, and their married daughter Hazel Wilkins 20 IL and her husband Willard R. Wilkins 29 WI. This was his second marriage. He is a son of George Putman and Sarah Ann Short from Morgan County. He married Lizzie here May 22, 1883. They were in Chicago in 1900. Alfred will be married by 1920 and back in Chicago. The son Richard Edward Putman had married Bertha Dunn in Chicago March 27, 1906. They had a son Robert Victor Putman in 1907 and split. Bertha is in Chicago now with her folks and their son. Richard will be married to Hilda Uschner and they are in Melrose Park, Cook County in 1920. The son Robert Victor or Victor Robert will be an Inmate at the Illinois Masonic Orphans Home in La Grange, Cook County in 1920. See that listing for the rest of his story.

The son of Dennis Putman, He is listed as Wallie A. Putnam, 58 IL.  There is no wife listed.  The children at home are: Claud 22 IL, Eleanor 18 IL, and Janet 15 IL. He was married to Mary Olcott in the 1870s and was widowed here in 1900. He married a widow Mrs. Louise Stallman Borgarding in Du Page County October 27, 1904, but she too must have died. He is still widowed here in 1930 living with his son Dennis and his family.

Charles is listed as 38 IL.  His wife, Mary, is 34 IL.  His sister-in-law, Martha Ilseman, is 25 GER, and his niece, Arline Ilseman, is 3 IL. They were here in 1900.

John D. is listed as 55 NC.  His wife Hannah Best is 40 IL.  The children at home are: Otis O. 20 IL, and Guy C. 16 IL. They were here in 1900. He is Devales' son from Guilford County NC. Southern Putmans. They are here in 1920, and Hannah is widowed here in 1930.

 

H. H. (HENRY HERBERT) PUTNAM  York, DuPage County

He is an electrician for the Electric Company, and is 38 IA IA IA. His second wife Anna Mardaga is 38 MD. They have been married 8 years. His daughter by his first wife Amy Connell, Faith G. is 13 IA IA IA. Also here is Ann’s brother W. H. Margada 42 MD. That’s how I know her name. He is a son of Henry Harold Putnam and Elvira Stanclift from Delaware County Iowa. He was married there in the 1890s and was missing in 1900. His daughter Faith was with his folks there though.

John is listed as 81 NY, the father-in-law of O. T. Merkle. His wife Martha Sackett 78 NY is here too. He is a son of Cornelius Victor Putman. They were in Rushville, Schuyler County since the 1860s, and in Lovington, Moultrie County in 1900. He will be here until he dies in 1922.

The widow of Michael Putman, Mary J. is listed as 82 OH, the mother of Leah M. Rantz. Michael was a German Putman out of Pennsylvania. They were here in 1900.

 

LORCUE (LOREN THOMAS) PUTMAN  Benton City, Franklin County

He is listed as 27 MO.  His wife Sarah is 23 IL.  There are no children listed. He is a son of Thomas Benton Putman and Mary Jane Meyers from Greene County Missouri. He was born there in 1886 and was at home in 1900. They will be here in Franklin County in 1920 and then over in West Virginia in 1930. He works in a coal mine.

 

W. F. (WILLIAM FORD) PUTNAM  Avon, Fulton County

He is listed as 56 OH.  His wife, Maud, is 34 IL. Their son, Walter, is 4 CO. He is a son of Solomon Putnam (from New Hampshire) and Zuriah Ford and was born in Livingston County Illinois March 14, 1854. He married Ida Marie Kenyon there in 1872 and they were in Kansas in 1880 and 1900 in Barton County Kansas. Then they split. She was there in 1905 and said she was widowed, but Bill was obviously up in Colorado then with Maud. They are in Kansas City, Missouri in 1920. I don’t find them in 1930. There is a grave marker back in Garden City, Kansas saying he died March 2, 1930 and Ida is buried there as well after she died in 1938. Questionable?

She is 13 IL and lives with her mother Mary L. 32 IL and her stepfather Earl Ritchy 32 IL. I don’t find her in 1900. There was a Mary here the right age though.

Clara Sanders is listed as 68 IL.  Her daughter, Mary (Mary Belle), is 32 IL. She is the widow of Francis Putman who was Harrison’s son.

 

FLOYD PUTMAN  Canton, Fulton County

He is a son of Francis Putman and Clara Sanders from here in Canton. Floyd is listed as 29 IL.  His wife, Clara, is 27 IL.  There are no children listed. They are here through 1930. He is a lawyer.

 

FRED PUTMAN  Canton, Fulton County

He is 16 IL and a nephew of Ted Sheesley 36 IL and Ida Sheesley 32. He is also listed shortly with his brother Marion in Lewistown, Fulton County. Seems his folks were William Putman and Lucinda Hensley. In 1910 they were sorta with her and she had married Ambrose Saunders. No ideas on the dad William. Fred’s gravestone in Canton says born 1895 died 1951.

 

HARRISON PUTMAN  Canton, Fulton County

Harrison Christopher is the son of Francis and Clara Sanders Putman from here. He is listed as 33 IL IL IL single and boarding. He was born February 11, 1877 and will die July 20, 1963. He graduated Rush Medical School in Chicago and is a doctor. He will marry Nelle Hanlon in 1911 here in Canton. Nellie was born December 15, 1882 and will die December 12, 1963. They are here forever.

James is listed as 17 IL, the nephew of John L. Westerfield. He will be married here in Canton in 1920.

The widow of Robert Putman, Philena Murphy is 68 IL.  The children at home are three daughters: Florence 35 IL, Mary L. 32 IL, and Alta 25 IL.

Frederick is listed as 16 IL, his brother Marion 14 IL is there too. They are in a weird listing of about a dozen son, stepsons, etc of someone not really listed, unless it is Alexander Maranville. In 1900, they were both living as grandchildren of Alexander Wilcox, but there was no mom there then. Don't know their folks yet.

Alfred's son, John is listed as 46 IL.  His wife, Lavinia (Margaret Lavinia Fengel), is 31 IL.  The children at home are: George 23 IL, Leonard 21 IL, Katie 19 IL, Glen 12 IL, Earl 10 IL, Frank 7 IL, Earl 5 IL, and Floyd 1 IL.  Also in the household is his mother-in-law, Catherine Fengel, 63 GER.

The son of Robert Putman and Philena Murphy from Buckheart, Fulton County where he was born October 10, 1872. Lewis is listed as 37 IL. His wife, Julia Mae Gilpin, is 34 WV.  Their son Elza is 10 IL. He was born in Peoria County September 4, 1899 and will die here August 7, 1919.  Also in the household is his mother- in-law, Anna Gilpin, 61 OH. They were in Hollis, Peoria County in 1900 and are in Farmington Fulton County in 1930 and Putman Fulton County in 1940. The township Putman was named for my grandfather Reding Putman it’s first settler.

They are kids of Orlin U. Putnam and Minnie Herring from McDonough County in 1900. Floyd H. 14 IL, Fayna A. 13 IL and Howard G. 10 IL. They are listed as grandchildren of Thomas A. Herring. Looks like their mother has died. Their dad, Orlin, is gone and has a new wife in Eddy County New Mexico now. Orlin and the new wife Anna will be in Oregon in 1920. Kinda took off on the family. Howard will be off to St. Louis marry in 1925 and be there in 1930.

Fred S. is listed as 36 IL.  His wife, Emma Wilton, is 35 IL. Their daughter, Mildred, is 12 IL. They were here in 1900, and are here in 1930. . He is a son of Abraham Hanson Putman and was born back in Ogle County. He came here with his folks in the 1890s.

 

KENNETH E. PUTNAM  Dundee, Kane County

Kenneth is listed as 25 MO, Florence M. Collins his wife is listed as 25 MI, and they are boarders with Henry and Mary Smith from New York. Kenneth is a son of John William Putnam and Henrietta Archer Orville. He was born when the family was in Missouri and was with them in East St. Louis, St. Clair County Illinois in 1900. He just married Florence in Detroit, Michigan January 18, 1910. The marriage record gives his parents names and birthplace. This is interesting as He also married Mattie Mae Jackson about 1905 in East St. Louis and in 1910 she was at home there with her folks George and Ella Jackson. She has her son Herschel Putnam 3 IL with her and says she is widowed. Looks like Ken came back from the dead right here. This is the last I seem to be able to find him.

Minnie is listed as 49 IL, the mother of O. M. Cook, with whom she was enumerated. Gladiola is listed as 19 IL, the sister of O. M. Cook. Rand found, “Not sure which Putnam she married but her maiden name is McGlasson.”

 

J. S. (JEREMIAH DOWNER) PUTNAM  None listed, Kane County

Jeremiah is listed as 42 IL.  His wife Ida Mae Barnes is 42 IL.  Their son, Ira, is 17 IL. They were here in 1900, Jerry since he was born. He is a son of Jeremiah Putnam and his second wife Nancy Downer and was born here. His dad was from New Hampshire and was a teacher in West Albany, New York in 1850. They are here till they both die in 1937, Jerry on June 26 and Ida on November 6. The son Ira will marry a girl named Ellemere in 1914 and then will die here November 4, 1926.

 

JOHN E. PUTNAM  None listed, Kankakee County

The son of Elbridge G. Putnam, John Elbridge Putnam is listed as 59 KY (Lexington).  His wife, Lucy Ann Cornwell, is 53 NY.  Their daughter, Carrie E., is 17 IL.  Also in the household are three grand children: Arlie I. 7 IL, George 4 IL, and Lucy L. 2 IL. He will be in Jackson County Oregon in 1920 with a new wife Lida. By 1930 he is widowed again and by himself in Neosho County Kansas.

 

CAROLINE PUTMAN  Galesburg, Knox County

Caroline is listed as 57 IL, the mother-in-law of Clyde Anderson. She was married to James Riley Putman in Hopedale, Tazewell County Illinois in 1900. He was listed as J. R. Putman 58 NY. Rand Putnam found a James Riley Putman the perfect age, 18 NY, in the family of Jacob Putman and Louisa Corey in the 1860 Census in Tyrone, Schuyler County New York. Dutch Putman family. Then I found the family sheet and wow. James is a son of Jacob Putman and Louisa Corey and was born May 3, 1842 in Steuben County New York. He then began a long long series of wives. He was first married to Esther Clymer July 21, 1867 in Bates County Missouri. She died November 14, 1868 and he married Sarah Neafus December 25, 1870 in Bates County Missouri. They moved here to Washington and she died in Klickitat, Washington August 29, 1890. Pearl was her daughter. He then married Caroline L. Carter July 4, 1894 in Goldendale and they were in Hopedale, Tazewell County Illinois in 1900. They were divorced February 24, 1903. He then married Frances Hendershott here April 12, 1904 and she died in January 1907. He then married Eleanor ‘Ella’ Rathbone in Goldendale, Klickitat County Washington February 16, 1909 and they are there in 1910. His third wife poor Caroline Carter is with her married daughter in Knox County Illinois in 1910. Then Eleanor died on November 8, 1915 in Goldendale, Washington. Couple of months later in 1915 he married Margaret Ann Morrill in Goldendale, Washington, and he will marry Margaret Remore here October 18, 1918. She will die at age 68 in 1924. He will wrap it up with Miriam E. McDonald August 15, 1925 when he was 83 and she was 75. He is here in the 1930 census and says he is widowed. He will die here September 19, 1933. Miriam will survive him, but I don’t know when or where she died. Whew, 7 Up and then 7 Down. Anyway, he is a son of Jacob Putman and Louisa Corey from Steuben then Schuyler County New York. Dutch folks from Montgomery County New York down to New Jersey earlier and the back to New York and then Jim came out to the Mid West and to the far North West. Next probably Alaska if he made it till 1940

 

CLAUD H. PUTNAM  Henderson, Knox County

Claud is listed as 25 IL, and is living by himself. He is a son of Orlean E. Putnam and Nellie Henderson. His mom is listed next, dad’s off somewhere probably still in Canada. He will be married and in Cerro Gordo County Iowa by 1920 and be there still in 1930.

 

NELLIE S. PUTMAN  Henderson, Knox County

Nellie Sophia Henderson is the ex-wife of Orlean Elhanna Putnam. She is listed as 48 IL.  The children at home are: Kelsey 25 (should be 23) IL, Wilber 21 NE, Budd 17 NE, Blossom 17 NE, and Frances 14 TX. The oldest son Claud is listed earlier. She married Orlean here in 1884, traveled around and then divorced in the late 1890s. She and the kids were all back here by the 1900 census.

 

A. A. (ABEL ADELBERT) PUTMAN  Highland Park, Lake County

He is listed as 24 NY.  His wife Abbie Anna Dudley is 45 NY.  There are no children listed. The ages are wrong. He is 65, Abbie 60. He is Abel Adelbert Putnam from Vermont. See the 1900 census.

 

HARRY PUTNAM  Libertyville, Lake County

Harry is listed as 36 MN (39 MN in 1920), the son-in-law of Adolph Soderberg, with whom he was enumerated. His wife Teckla Soderberg 23 SWED and daughter Harriet 4 IL are there as is their son Forest 1 IL. They will be in Campbell County Wyoming in 1920 and 1930. His middle name is Gordon. Best I can figure is if you look at the 1880 Minnesota census entry for Henry Putnam and Harriet Brown in McLeod County. You will see him listed as a grandson. Henry only had one son, Gordon Winslow Putnam, who was also in that entry and widowed. Harry would be his and his first wife Agnes O’Hogarty. Gordon was by himself in 1870 too and they were all here in 1875. So he got married around 1872 had Harry and the wife died before 1880. This has been confirmed by a descendant of his son Harry Gordon Putnam, Jr.

The son of Wallace Ashtil Putman and Mary Emma Olcott, Dennis L. Putman is listed as 34 IL, the son-in-law of Sarah M. Seymour, with whom he was enumerated.  His wife Jennie B. Brooks (the name used on findagrave) 26 IL is here too. Jennie was born in February 1884 and will die here in 1972. He was born in Ela, Lake County and was there in 1880 and then in Rock County Wisconsin in 1900.

He is listed as 33 MO, a boarder with Charles Carlson, with whom he was enumerated.

James is listed as 54 PA.  His wife Mary Rebecca Richey is 48 PA. The children at home are: Norman Richey 25 PA, Harriet I. 23 PA, Earl Edward 21 PA, and James K. Junior 13 IN.  Also in the household are: his father-in-law William Richey 82 PA, and his mother-in-law Sarah Richey 76 PA. He is a son of Norman Putnam and his second wife Margaret Kilpatrick from Crawford County Pennsylvania. Norman was a son of David Putman and was born in Waterloo, Seneca County New York. Dutch Family.  They were in Blackford County Indiana in 1900 and are in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1920 and 1930.

Edgar is listed as 28 IN.  His wife, Alice, is 23 IN.  Their daughter, Velma, is 6 IL. He is a son of Sylvester Putnam Junior from DuBois County Indiana. He was home there in 1900. His mom died recently and he is back here by his uncle Eber. His dad was born here in Wabash County Illinois.

George A. is listed as 29 IL.  His wife, Dora R., is 30 IL.  There are no children listed. He is a son of William and Elizabeth Putman. He was born here and with his widowed mother here in 1900.

 

KATE PUTMAN  Dixon, Lee County

Kate is listed as 30 IRL.  Her daughter, Caroline, is 13 IL.  No one else is in the household. They were here in 1900, but I have no clue as to a husband. She is still here through 1940. There is a marriage record of Kate Hines marrying Theodore E. Putman in 1897 in Whiteside County.

 

ALPHEUS PUTMAN  None listed, Lee County

He is indexed Elphais but is Alpheus Henry Putnam is listed as 18 IL, the stepson of Joseph Wilson, with whom he was enumerated. Alphie is a son of Jacob Abraham Putman and Nancy Elizabeth Ford. He was born in Ogle County Illinois August 19, 1891. His dad died in Ogle County Illinois May 12, 1892 and his mom wasted no time in marrying Joseph Wilson in 1892. He will marry Iva V. Messer here in Lee County January 11, 1915 and they will be in Mount Morris, Ogle County in 1920 though not indexed properly. But they are there in 1930 and in Sterling, Whiteside County Illinois in 1940. He will die in Dixon, Lee County January 6, 1958. Iva will die later on in Ogle County May 5, 1987. New York Dutch folks.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Belle Prairie, Livingston County

The son of Aaron Putnam and Sarah Tenney, John Sterling Putnam is listed as 52 IL.  His wife Catherine Schilling is 44 IL. He was single here in 1880. They were married here October 5, 1882. Catherine was born in LaSalle County September 26, 1865 and will die in McLean County December 24, 1916. Their daughter Ollie is 16 IL. By 1920 Caroline will have died. Ollie will have married and then divorced a Bowman fella and she and her two Bowman kids will be here with John.

 

ANNA PUTMAN  Fairbury, Livingston County

Anna is listed as 83 OH.  Also in the household are 2 non relatives. Anna Larue Walters was a widow and then married Aaron Putnam in Livingston County Illinois June 2, 1899 and they were there in 1900. Aaron died there December 15, 1908 at age 88.

Been here since he was born. Asa is listed as 49 IL.  His wife, Ella V. Walters, is 37 IL.  The children at home are: Aaron 17 IL, Hazel 15 IL, and Delano 13 IL. They are here in the County in 1900 and will be in Richland County North Dakota in 1920 and in Fargo by 1930.

He is listed as 64 CT MA MA and widowed still.  The children at home are Clarence 21 IL and Laura 16 IL. Also in the household is his son-in-law, Curtis Hamilton, 36 IL and Albro’s daughter Elva 27 IL CT KS. Albro Philander Putnam is a son of David Putnam (born in Mass of course) and Susan Williams of Fitchburg, Mass. He was in McLean County in 1880 and 1900.

He is listed as 38 IL MA US and single, the servant of Preston N. Smith, with whom he was enumerated. Originally he was indexed as ‘Son’ but Rand looked it up and saw it was Lou. So Louis or Lewis and last name may not even be Putman or Putnam.

Elizabeth is listed as 42 IL, the sister of Elmira Stoner, with whom she was enumerated. She was single here in 1900. See the 1920 for a clue.

 

FRED PUTMAN  Decatur, Macon County

Fred is listed as 24 NY.  His wife, Nellie Foster, is 22 IL.  Their son, James, is 1 IL. They are here through the 1940, but I don’t find him in 1900 so not sure who his folks are. Rand found he was born May 10, 1886 in Syracuse, New York and his full name is Fred Harry Putman.

 

GEORGE E. (EDWARD) PUTMAN  Decatur, Macon County

George is listed as 24 NY. His wife, Pearl Holcomb, is 21 IA.  The children are: Lucille 3 IL, and Willard just born IL.  Also in the household is his brother-in-law, James Holcomb. He is a son of Edward ‘Ward’ Putman and Margaret Pritz and was born June 27, 1884 in Syracuse, New York.  He will die here January 7, 1944. His Brother Jack is listed next and may live together. Dutch family out of Montgomery County New York.

He uses the name Jack and is listed as 21 NY.  Also in the household are: Olaf B. Jennings 24 IL, Earl F. Siberling 31 IL, and Sam J. Crow 26 IA. He is a son of Edward ‘Ward’ Putman and Margaret Pritz from Syracuse, New York. He was born June 9, 1888. He will marry a Hazel shortly and then die here October 23, 1915. Hazel and their son John (born in 1912) are here in 1920 and 1930. His Brother George is listed right above. Dutch family out of Montgomery County New York.

Martha Jane Cannon is now the widow of Uzziel Franklin Putnam. Martha Jane is listed as 62 IL, the aunt of Fred A. Baumann, with whom she was enumerated. Her daughter Flossie L. Putnam 22 IL is with her and listed as a caretaker. They were all here with Uzziel in 1900. See that year for all the details. Martha and Flossie will be in MacDonald County, Manitoba Canada in 1911 and then Martha is back here in McDonough County, Illinois in 1920 and she will die here later in 1920.

 

MATTIE PUTNAM  None listed, McDonough County

Mattie Putman is listed 32 IN, the daughter of George A. Jackson. I found 2 photos of her but no info as to her folks. Lisyed as Martha ‘Mattie’ Matilda Putnam born April 18, 1879 and died January 4, 1966. Her tombstone reads her married name Mattie Kinsall. Good Luck.

The son of George here in Harvard, Claude is listed as 23 WI.  His wife Harriet Marvin is 39 MI.  Harriet was obviously married before and the kids would be hers. The children are: Ruth 16 MI, Bertha 13 MI, Dewey 9 IL, and Elmer 7 IL.

He is listed 52 WI.  His wife, Leora M. DeLine, is 47 WI.  The children at home are: Loran 16 WI, Frank 13 WI, George 8 IL, and Fern 5 IL. He is a son of Frederick and Jane Putnam. He was born in Linn, Walworth County Wisconsin April 1, 1853. The family bounced back and forth across the state line several times. Linn and Harvard are fairly close to each other.

 

OLIVER L. (LEWIS) PUTNAM  Harvard, McHenry County

He is 35 NY NY NY and his wife Mary Estella Crumb is 34 WI NY NY. They have been married 9 years and have Russell Eugene 6 WI and Monroe L. 2 IL. He is a fabricator in a furniture shop. He was here in 1900 with his widowed mother Kate, and I can’t find him in 1880. He and the family are here in 1920.

Emily Sellers is listed as 73 PA.  There is a non relative in the household also. Rand Putnam figured her out as Emily Sellers who married Julius Franklin Putnam. She was widowed here with her son Walter in 1880 and she was in Dorr, McHenry County in 1910. Julius was a son of Sterne Putnam and Hannah Townsend from New Salem, Massachusetts. He was born in Houlton, Maine and was with the family in Brockway, Sterns County Minnesota in 1860 and 1870.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Cropsey, McLean County

He is listed 36 IL MA KS and his wife Myrtle is 19 IL KY OH. They have been married 2 years and are lodging and working for William Henry on his farm. He is a son of Albro Putnam and Sarah Jane White from here and now Livingston County. George was single here in 1900 and will be in Livingston County with Myrtle in 1920 and 1930 and probably longer.

 

MAY PUTNAM  Cropsey, McLean County

The widow of Henry Putnam, May M. Ninemeyer is listed as 29 IL.  The children are: Harold 9 IL, and Nellie 6 IL.  Also in the household is her mother, Matilda Ninemeyer, 63 ENG. She and Henry were in Ford County in 1900, but he was born here in Cropsey, a son of Albro Putnam. May will marry William Henderson here and she and the kids are here with him in 1920.

The son of Luther E. Putnam. He is 46 IL.  His wife Cecelia is 46 IL.  The children at home are: Helen 21 IL, Luella 12 IL, and an adopted son, Glenn 6 WI. He was born in Champaign County but has been here since the 1890s.

 

HATTIE PUTMAN  Litchfield, Montgomery County

Hattie (married name Holloway) is listed as 60 IL.  Her adopted daughter, Alberta, is 8 MO. No one else is listed. She was here in 1900 married to Richard Hocking Putman. She will be in St. Louis, Missouri with Alberta in 1920 and will die there October 8, 1927.

 

GEORGE C. CHARLES) PUTNAM  Litchfield, Montgomery County

George is listed as 42 IL.  His wife Mary Louisa Gregg is 37 OH.  The children are: Ethel M. 18 IL, Ina A. 13 IL, Jesse S.  6 IL, Hiram Otis 4 IL, and Roy O. no age given, was born in Illinois. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Margaret Honican. He was at home with his widowed mom in Will County in 1870 and then with a sister there in 1880.

 

GEORGE H. PUTMAN  Jacksonville, Morgan County

George H. is listed as 45 ME.  His wife, Lillie F., is 42 PA.  The children at home are: Gertrude 21 PA, Edith E. 7 KS, and John W. 5 KS. They were in Olathe City, Johnson County Kansas in 1900. Lillie had been married to a Pretz guy before and Gertrude is her daughter from the first marriage. George is a son of George Augustus Putnam and Fannie Maria Wells of Yarmouth, Cumberland County Maine. His dad was a minister originally from Massachusetts.

 

ELMER PUTNAM  None listed, Morgan County

Elmer is listed as 25 IL.  His wife, Nellie, is 23 IL.  Their daughter, Elnore (Eleanor), is 2 IL. He looks like the son of George Putman and Amanda Thomas of Brown County. That Elmer was home in 1900 and will be in Springfield in 1920. He married Nellie Sperry here November 3, 1906. I guess he got divorced, as he will be single in Springfield in 1915 and 1920. Then in 1921 he will marry Mayme Sprague and they are there in 1930. Elmer was born March 11, 1885 and will die in Springfield April 11, 1965.

 

CHAUNCY PUTMAN  Mount Morris, Ogle County

Chauncy is listed as 75 NY.  His wife, Sarah Trane, is 76 MD. Also in the household are their daughter Mary, whose relationship, age, and her state of birth are not listed, and their granddaughter, Mabel Felix, 10 IL. They have been here since the 1850s. Best guess that he is Abram Chauncy Putman, a son of Frederick and Jane Putman From Root, Montgomery County New York. They were there in 1840 and then in McHenry County Illinois in 1850. Chauncy and Sarah were married here April 22, 1858 and have been here ever since. New York Dutch.

 

EDWARD PUTNAM  Richwoods  (Averyville Village), Peoria County

Edward is 40 IL, the son of Mrs. Fred Fisher 59 PA. He is the son of John Putnam and Mary Alice Fisher and was at home with them in Tazewell County in 1880 at age 10. He is still single and back in Tazewell County in 1930.

 

JAMES D. (DOWNING) PUTNAM  Elmwood, Peoria County

He is 51 MN MA OH, His wife Eva McLaughlin is 39 IL NY VT and they have Mary Alice 3 IL and James 7/12 IL. He is a lawyer in general practice. James Downing is a son of James and Caroline Putnam and was born March 12, 1859 and will die here in Peoria February 13, 1917. Eva is a daughter of Frank Arthur McLaughlin and Maria Theresa Donahue and was born here in Peoria April 23, 1872 and will die here December 18, 1958. Eva is widowed here in 1920 with the 2 kids. She will be in 1940 too.

 

ANNA B. (BISHOP) PUTNAM  Peoria, Peoria County

Anna is listed as 68 NY, the sister-in-law of Walter P. Coburn. She was living here in 1900. Anna Maria Bishop was married to Adam Augustus Putnam and married here August 4, 1862. Adam was a son of Adam Putnam and Nancy Puffer and was born in Lowell Massachusetts April 5, 1828. He died back in Lowell on June 21, 1868. He was previously married to Nancy Jane Leighton November 1, 1950 in Lowell and she died June 13, 1853. Anna is a daughter of Alexander Bishop, born in England, and Maria Berry and was born in New York April 6, 1841 and was at home with the folks in Wisconsin in the late 1840s and 1850 at age 9 and then in Peoria, Peoria County Illinois in 1860 at age 19. Not sure where she is in 1880 but she was here in 1900 and will die here June 5, 1910.

Fred is listed as 35 NY.  His wife, Josephine Emerson, is 32 IL. There are no children listed.  Also in the household are: his father- in-law, Albert G. Emerson, 67 OH, and his mother-in-law, Martha M. Emerson, 64 OH. He is a son of Joseph Putnam and Mary Wheeler and was born in Chemung County New York. By 1880 the family was in Lenawee County Michigan, and then he came here in the late 1880s with his brother Willard.

He is listed as 52 IL. His wife, Rose, is 39 KY. He is a son of Francis Putman and Caroline Bates and was with the family in Tazewell County in 1870 and 1880. They were married in Tazewell County in 1900.

Willard is listed as 49 NY MI NY.  His wife, Emma Scott, is 42 IL. The children at home are: Leonard 12 IL, and Clifford 7 IL.  Also there is his mother-in-law, Mahala Scott, 82 OH. He is a son of Joseph Putnam and Mary (Wheeler I think) and was born in Chemung County New York. He was there in 1860 and 1870. By 1880 the family was in Lenawee County Michigan, and then he came here by 1890. He runs a hardware store. He was married here in 1900. He will be here until he dies November 7, 1925. Emma is widowed here in 1930 and the boys are gone by then.

Barnet is listed as 39 IL.  His wife, Della Hunt, is 37 IL. The children are: Otis W. 17 IL, and Earl 16 IL.  Also in the household is his mother-in-law, Mattie Hunt, 65 IL. See 1900 for this line.

 

EDWARD PUTNAM  Moline, Rock Island County

He is 61 NY.  His wife Fran (Frances Amelia Wicker) is 62 NY.  Their daughter, Grace, is 37 OH. He is Edward Howell Putnam, a son of Lucien Putnam and Esther Foster of Wyoming County New York and then Winnebago County Illinois. They were here in 1900. He was born March 8, 1849 and will die May 11, 1913 and Frances will be widowed here in 1920. She was born May 2, 1847 in Lockport, New York and will die in Ohio January 20, 1938.

 

ROSS PUTMAN  Eldorado, Saline County

Ross Griffith Putnam is listed as 27 IL.  His wife, Katherine Milliken, is 28 IL.  There are no children listed. He is a son of William H. Putnam of Wabash County. He was in Bellflower, McLean County in 1900. He married Kate September 1, 1907. They will be here with kids in 1920 and 1930.

Earl is listed as 24 IL, a roomer with Ray Hendsor (Henderson?). His brother George and sister Lulu are here as well. Earl and the others were in an orphanage in Normal, McLean County in 1900. All three are children of George Vincent Putnam from here. George was a son of Jonathan and Frances Putnam. There is a marriage record that Earl married Myrtle Gobel in Champaign, Illinois in 1904. They had a son Clarence in 1905 and then got divorced. Myrtle and Clarence are with her step-parents in Champaign now in 1910 and says she is divorced. He will die there September 3, 1913.

The son of Wheeler S. Putnam from here. David I. is listed as 31 IL.  His wife, Irene Maude Porter, is 27 MO.  The children are: David 8 IL, and Harold 3 IL. He has been here all his life.

George W. is listed as 57 CDN.  His wife Sarah Roesch is 54 MO.  The children at home are: Mamie 34 IL, Maud 30 IL, George 24 IL, Olivette 19 IL, and Harry 15 IL. He is a son of George and Ophra Putnam of Dorchester, Middlesex County Ontario and was shown there with the family in the 1851 Canadian Census.

Herschel is listed as 3 IL, the grandson of George A. and Ella Jackson. His ‘widowed’ mother Mattie Putnam 23 IN is here too. Mattie May Jackson had married Kenneth Putnam here about 1905. She is widowed here still in 1920. I don’t find her after that. Herschel is here through 1940 at least. He will have 3 wives and die out in Bakersfield, California June 1, 1975. Then…Mattie isn’t a widow right now. Ken is properly married out in Dundee, Kane County Illinois at this moment and married to Florence Collins. He has just married Florence in Detroit, Michigan January 18, 1910. The marriage record gives his parents names and birthplace: John William Putnam ad Henrietta Archer Orrill. This is interesting as He also married Mattie Mae Jackson about 1905 in East St. Louis and she is right here with her folks saying he died. Looks like Ken came back from the dead right there. This is the last I seem to be able to find him.

He was listed as 38 MN.  His wife Emelia Josephine Schenkel is 43 IL. They were married here June 25, 1902. Emelia was married to John J. Hilgert who died in 1899. His stepson, Ernest Hilgert, is 21 MO.  His niece, Lillian Hilgert, is 26 MO.  He is a son of William Aaron Putnam and Elizabeth Ann Ingersol, and was born in Plainview Minnesota July 20, 1871. He was at home in Watopa, Wabasha County Minnesota in 1880. His father was a son of Fletcher Putnam and Adeline Carter Brush and was born in Grafton, Vermont. They will be across the river in Phelps County Missouri in 1920 and 1930. They will be there until they die, Emelia in 1947 and Nahum in 1953. For what it’s worth Ernest will be married to a Grace here in 1920 and then over in St. Louis Missouri by 1930.

George William is listed as 23 IL, a servant for Harry Barton. He is George William Putman a son Charles Frances Putman and Harriet Screeton from here in Stark County. He was born August 6, 1886 and will die here October 13, 1964. He will marry Ella here in Wyoming on March 27, 1913. Dutch family originally from New York.

 

HARRIET C. PUTMAN  None listed, Stark County

The wife of Charles Francis, Harriet Cynthia Screeton is listed as 45 IL.  Her husband is not listed, but he must be around somewhere as he won’t die until October 12, 1912 when he is in a train accident.  The children at home are: Evert J. 15 IL, Bennie C. 13 IL, Jessie L. 10 IL, Lulu B. 8 IL, Mildred I. 6 IL.  Also in the household is her brother, Nathan L. Screeton, 47 IL. The son Bennie will die here February 25, 1915 at age 17. Everett will also die here on December 16, 1916. Jessie will die here as well on July 7, 1918. Harriet isn’t listed in 1920, but she is around and will die here December 24, 1920.

The son of Charles Francis, Walter Emery is listed as 21 IL.  His wife, Lillian M. Smith, is 18 NE.  Their daughter, Hazel I., is 2 IL.

He is Frank Garfield Putman 33 IL.  His wife Margaret A. Cavenaugh is 28 IRL.  The children are: F. Margery 7 IL, Alice 4 IL, Ralph 3 IL, and an unnamed son, no age listed, born in Illinois.  He is a son of Walter and Emma here in town, and married Margaret here May 20, 1902.

 

MAHALIA PUTNAM  Freeport, Stephenson County

The widow of Walter Miles Putnam, Mahalia Curtis Brown is listed as 71 OH, the mother of Clara (Putnam) Sage. Walter was a son of William Vickery Putnam from Rahway New Jersey. They have been here since the 1860s. He just died here January 10, 1910. Mahalia will die here in the next few years.

The son of Walter M., Walter is listed as 43 IL.  His wife Emma Weik is 45 IL.  The children at home are: Archibald 20 IL, and Muriel 12 IL.  Also in the household is his father-in-law, Otto Weik, 70 GER (PRWR). He married Emma here November 14, 1888. He is a bookkeeper in a lumberyard.

Zachariah's son is 44 IL OH OH.  His wife Edith E. Cook is 40 IN.  The children at home are: Samuel E. 21 IL, George G., 15 IL, and Anna E. 5 IL.

William T. is listed as 62 ME.  His wife, Lillie McGahan, is 60 OH.  Their son, Fred, is 18 IN. They were in Chicago in 1900. His other son, William Earl is here too. William Tasker is a son of Daniel Putnam (Jr.) and Abigail Tasker. Dan Senior, wife Nancy Jones, was a son of John Putnam and Joanna Eames of Bedford, Mass. John was a son of Israel Putnam and Sarah Hutchinson of Bedford. He was married to another gal back in Maine in 1870 with a couple of kids. Must have simply left them behind. Don’t know. He was born in Dixmont May 1, 1847, and married Lillie February 20, 1876 in Brightwood, Indiana. They were in Brightwood, Indiana in 1880, and Chicago in 1900, then here in Danville until he dies February 12, 1916. Lillie was born August 27, 1849 and will die in Danville, Illinois June 12, 1919.

He is 34 IL IL IL and has been married 15 years to Cora Wilson 38 IL. They have Hazel 15 IL, Buelah 13 IL, June 7 IL, Forest 5 IL and Dale 2 IL. He was born October 5, 1875 and will die March 8, 1961. He married Cora Elizabeth Wilson on June 26, 1894. Cora was born June 15, 1872 and will die January 3, 1968. He was raised by Joseph Putman and Elizabeth Slusser from here, but is actually an out of wedlock son of their oldest daughter Mary Ellen Putman.

John H. is listed as 55 OH.  His wife Eva Kate Renard is 45 IL.  The children at home are: Cassie 24 IL, and Fred 19 IL.  He is a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Putman from here and Champaign County Ohio before that. John will die here June 28, 1931 and Kate on March 29, 1932.

Name is listed as Jorn or Horn 19 IL, a servant for John Edwins, with whom he was enumerated. Poor writing. Then even worse writing in 1900. John Henry Putman in Ross Vermilion County had a 9 year old son who’s name hard to read. Listed as Fred but in looking at it could be anything. I am ‘guessing’ this Horn or Henr or whatever is same kid. His dad’s middle name was Henry, his mom’s dad was Harvey so Horn or whatever could be his name. Good luck, can’t find him again.

 

JONAS G. PUTMAN  Danville, Vermilion County

Jonas is listed as 52 MO PA PA.  His wife, Ida May Songer, is 32 IL IN IN. They were just married here in 1898. This is Ida’s second marriage and she has her daughter Ocie 16 IL with her. Ocie wasn’t here in 1900, she was with Francis and Anna Songer who were her grandparents and Ida’s parents. Ida was with them in 1880 in Danville, Vermilion County at age 2. They are here in 1900 and will be in 1920. German family out of Pennsylvania.

He is a son of Hiram Putman and Harriett Nowlin from Wilson County Tennessee William is listed as 70 TN.  He is in the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. He was in Clinton County in 1880, not found in 1900. His brother Jesse is here in the Home as well.

The son of Orrin Putnam, Edmond is listed as 69 NY.  His wife, Ardelia Shephard, is 67 NY.  Their daughter, Jennie, is 27 IL. Jennie is a registered nurse and is also listed in Chicago where she is lodging and working as a nurse.

Martha is 48 IL OH OH and still single. She runs a boarding house. Her mother Elizabeth Slusser Putman is 82 OH. Her father, Joseph H. Putman died back in 1892.

The son of Chesterfield F., Edgar Newton is listed as 52 IL.  His second wife, Rosie Dyer, is 43 IL.  Their adopted daughter, Helen, is 8, but her state of birth is not listed. Rosie will die here November 5, 1924 and Edgar on October 3, 1931.

He and the following John’s dad were brothers. Southern Putman family here. He was married here in 1900. His wife, Eva Rush, is listed next. Guess there was a divorce. Think the following Ben is his.

The children are: a son, Sharon R. 9 IL, Arthur F. 7 IL, Hanna L. 4 IL, and Lawrence, no age listed, born in Illinois. He married Clara here Mach 31, 1897. They were in Jackson County Arkansas in 1900 and then back here.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Lancaster, Wabash County

The son of William H., Frank Alfred is listed as 29 IL.  His wife, Bessie, (Elizabeth Keene), is 24 IL.  The children are: Leo 6 IL, Beulah 4 IL, Gladys 2 IL, and George, no age given, IL. Frank was born in Wabash County October 3, 1880 and married Bessie there on March 29, 1903. She is a daughter of Ancil Marion Keen and Alma Jackson and was born January 10, 1887 and will die here in Bridgeport in April 1974. Frank will die here January 11, 1949.

 

MICHAEL PUTMAN  Mount Carmel, Wabash County

He is 39 KY, his wife Emma Smith is 39 IN and there is William Smith 64 IL or IN a brother in law, Emma’s brother. Rand found a death certificate that he was born in Spencer County Indiana, which would make him a son of John Putman and Lavinia Jane North or Morris Putman and Nancy Jane Hunter both from Kentucky where I guess he was born. Working on it. Find a grave has him being born in 1871 and died in Mount Carmel, Wabash County in 1938 and buried there. He and Emma were in Gibson County Indiana in 1900 and will be here in 1920 and then back in Gibson County in 1930.

The widow of Alfred G. Putnam, Nora Sherer Putnam, is listed as 47 IL.  Her son Forest, is 22 IL. She was widowed here in 1900 and had sons Forest and Lester who is 2 years older and off somewhere now and will be married here in 1920.

He is the son of Eber Lewis Putnam and Justine Batson as shown in 1900 in Geneva, Van Buren County Michigan. They are in South Bend Indiana in 1920, 1930 and 1940.

Orinal or Orinel Webster Putnam is listed as 59 OH, the son-in-law, of Olive Ames, with whom he was enumerated. He is a son of Aaron Sidney Putnam from New Hampshire. He has been literally all over the place. See his 1900 listing in New Albany, Indiana for more info. He was married to an A. E. Ames in Ray County Missouri in 1880. The next two gals are his daughters.

Ray is 49 WI.  His wife May Hover is 42 WI.  The children are: a son, Orre, 17 WI, Gladys 16 WI, a daughter Thea, 14 IL, Jesse 11 IL, Eldon 9 IL, Violet 5 IL, and Walter, no age listed, born in Illinois. He is a son of Charles A. Putman and Adelia Wells from Johnstown Wisconsin and was shown there in 1870, but missing in 1880 for some reason, probably transcribing. His brother Burr and widowed mother are nearby in Rockford.

Adelia is listed as 80 VT, an inmate at the County Alms House. She is the widow of Charles Putnam from Rock County Wisconsin. She and her son Burr have been here since the 1880s.

The son of Charles and Adelia Putnam from Wisconsin, Burleigh is listed as 47 IL.  His wife, Nellie Eddy Lyon, is 47 IL.  The children at home are: Norma 21 IL, Maria 19 IL, and Pauline 13 IL. He married Nellie in Rock County Wisconsin April 17, 1886. He was here with his mother in 1900 and she is now in the Old Folks Home here in town. Burr is here in 1920 with a new wife Harriet. Adelia isn’t.

Charles is listed as 49 IL NY NY.  His wife Margaret E. Crellar is 48 IL.  The children at home are: Clayborne L. 20 IL, and Stanley R. 14 WA. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Miranda Wilcox who were from Broome County New York. Charles was just born out here in Cherry Valley, Winnebago County in 1860. Then either his folks got divorced or Henry died as in 1880 he and his mother were back in Petersburg, New York living with her folks. Then he came out here in the late 1880s and they were in Yakima County Washington in 1900. They are in Columbia County New York in 1920. Margaret is widowed there in 1930.

 

DYER C. (CLAUDE) PUTNAM  Rockford, Winnebago County

Dyer C. is listed as 31 MI.  His wife Ruby Eeckbert Wise is 31 IL.  The children are: D. (Dyer) Carleton 4 IL, and Margaret IL no age given, but is 10 years old in 1920. He is a son of Dyer Conger and Catherine Jane Enoch. He was born in 1878 in Douglas, Allegan County Michigan. He is shown at home there in the 1880 census. Family is from Oswego County New York and Preston, Connecticut before that. He was single here in 1900 and they are here in 1920 and 1930 and forever.
