AMOS O. PUTNAM  Clayton, Adams County

The son of John William Putman from Brown County Amos O. is listed as 34 IL.  His wife, Stella Vaughn, is 37 IL. The children are: Bernice 15 IL, Everett 10 IL, a son, Marcellus 2 years and 4 months old, IL. Been here for years running a grocery store. He’ll be here all his life.

 

RUFUS B. (BENNETT) PUTNAM  Ellington, Adams County

The son of William Henry Putnam, Rufus B. is listed as 27 IL.  His wife Sallie Ann Johnston is 31 IL. Their daughter Annabelle is 1 year and 6 months IL. His folks are still here in Ellington.

 

WILLIAM H. (HENRY) PUTNAM  Ellington, Adams County

The son of Rufus William Putnam, William Henry Putnam is listed as 62 IL.  His wife, Maggie B. (Margaret Duncan), is 58 IL.  The children at home are: Helen 20 IL, a grandson, Russell R. 8 IL, and a granddaughter, Marjorie 2 years and 9 months IL. Russell is a son of their son Earl who is somewhere but will be back here in 1940.

 

RUFUS W. (WILLIAM) PUTNAM  Quincy, Adams County

The son of Henry Putnam and Martha MacDonald, Rufus is now 86 IL, a widower with Fannie L. 58 IL, and Edith E. 50 IL his daughters still at home with him. His wife, Melissa Simmons, died way back in 1889.

 

SARAH A. PUTMAN  Quincy, Adams County

She is listed as 70 IL, and is living by herself. She is Sarah Ann Stone, widow of John Putman. The age should read 76. John was a son of Daniel Putman and Lucinda Colbert from Brown County. He died here in 1917, and Sarah will be here till 1929 when she will die at age 85.

 

ROY B. (BRIGGS) PUTMAN  Cooperstown, Brown County

Roy is listed as 29 IL.  His wife, Velida Petrie is 28 IL.  The children are: Delbert 6 IL, Leola 4 years and 1 month IL, and Leroy 6 months IL. He is a son of Henry Francis Putman and Virginia Shackleford. He married Velida here April 12, 1911, and will be around till he dies May 30, 1963. They are in Pike County in 1930.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Elkhorn, Brown County

The son of John William Putman and Mary Ann Shields, George Washington is listed as 57 IL.  His second wife, Jennie Hendricks, is 49 IL.  The children at home are: Iona 13 IL, Paul 11 IL, and Marjorie 9 IL. Jennie is widowed here in 1930.

 

RUFUS EDWARD PUTNAM  Elkhorn, Brown County

The son of Henry Francis Putman and Virginia Shackleford, Rufus is listed as 40 IL.  His wife, Louisa Covey, is 35 IL. The children are: Wilma 13 IL, Lorraine 9 IL, and Edna 6 IL. He’ll be around Elkhorn till he dies in 1954.

 

AMBROSE PUTMAN  Mount Sterling, Brown County

The son of Daniel Putman and Lucinda Colbert, Ambrose is listed as 84 OH.  His wife, Margaret E. Kendrick, is 83 IL.  Their daughter, Kate M., is 57 IL.  His sister-in-law, Sarah J. Picket, is 90 KY.

 

FRED PUTMAN  Mount Sterling, Brown County

The son of John George Putman and Sarah Frances Gordley, Charles Frederick is listed as 64 IL, the brother-in-law of William Tice. William Tyce married his sister Eva May Putman here in 1908. He was married to Naomi Clark in 1888, but they were separated or probably divorced by 1900 when he was living with his brother Stephen in Cooperstown, and she and the kids were living in Mount Sterling. Fred will be here till he dies in 1929.

 

JAMES WARREN PUTNAM  Mount Sterling, Brown County

A son of John George Putman and Sarah Frances Gordley. He is listed Warren Putnam, 52 IL.  His wife, Amanda E. Bell, is 49 IL. Their two sons have moved to Canada, their daughter Lucy has married John Haney.

 

JOHN WILLIAM PUTNAM  Mount Sterling, Brown County

The son of Henry Francis Putman and Margaret Keys, John William is listed as 63 IL.  His wife, Jane (Hannah Jane Aber), is 64 IL.  Their daughter, Mayme, is 34 IL. He will die here on June 3, 1922.

 

NELLIE PUTNAM  Mount Sterling, Brown County

The widow of George Allen Putman. Nellie Kees Putman is listed as 51 IL.  Her daughter, Mae, (Opal Mae), is 16 IL, and is the only child at home with her. Opal is married by 1930 to Homer Perry and she and her mom are in Chicago.

 

ERNEST T. PUTNAM  Woodland, Carroll County

Ernest T. is listed as 36 IA.  His wife, Bessie J., is 34 IL.  There are no children listed. He was here in 1900 and was listed as Truc or Tuc. Middle name is probably Tucker. He is a son of John W. and Sarah Putnam (both from Canada) from Cherokee County Iowa. He was with his remarried mother here in Carroll County in 1900. They are here in 1930.

 

ALICE C. PUTMAN  Champaign, Champaign County

A daughter of Henry Putman, She is listed as 62 IL.  Also in the household are two roomers: Myron Edwards, 41 IA, and Bessie Edwards, 46 IN.

 

JOHN W. PUTNAM  Champaign, Champaign County

John W. is listed as 44 IN.  His wife, Helena Schaede, is 50 IL.  The children at home are: Clyde 16 IL, Pauline 11 IL, and Ralph 8 IL. There are ‘grandchildren’ Albert Schaede 3 years and 11 months, and Pauline Scheade 2 years and 1 month. They must belong to one of Helen’s brothers. A son of James and Jane Putnam, been here since the 1870s.

 

KATE PUTNAM  Champaign, Champaign County

Kate is listed as 22 IL, a nurse who was enumerated at the Burnham Hospital. She is a daughter of Charles Wickliffe Putnam and his first wife Tina Yexley. In 1930 she will be a nurse in a hospital in Urbana.

 

FLORINDA PUTNAM  Urbana, Champaign County

The widow of George William Putman, Florinda Calhoun Kirkpatrick Putman is listed as 61 IN. The children at home are: Dora 30 IL, and Helen 19 IL. She and Helen are here in 1930.

 

JANE W. PUTNAM  Urbana, Champaign County

Jane Willard is listed as 57 IL.  The children at home are: Janet 21 MN, and Emily 15 MN. She is the widow of William Rice Putnam. In 1900 they were in Rushford, Fillmore County Minnesota. She was widowed there in 1910. William was a son of Rufus Putnam and Mary Herskell and was born in Clark County Ohio. The daughter Emily will be a music teacher in New York City in 1930.

 

WILLIAM J. PUTNAM  Urbana, Champaign County

The son of James Putnam and Emma Sarah Pine, William J. is listed as 31 IL.  His wife, Nettie B. Smith, is 29 IL.  The children are: Doris M. 4 years and 9 months IL, and Katherine 2 years and 4 months IL. He is an assistant professor and they are here in 1930.

 

C. W. (CHARLES WICKLIFFE) PUTNAM  Not listed, Champaign County

Charles W. is listed as 53 IL.  His wife Susan B. Clark is 52 IL.  Their son, George D., is 17 IL. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Phebe Condit. Been here all his life. Susan is his second wife. He married Tina Yexley here on March 6, 1893. She died February 14, 1902 and he married Susan B. Clark September 4, 1904. They are here in 1930.

 

GEORGE E. (EDGAR) PUTMAN  None listed, Champaign County

George E. is listed as 25 IL.  His wife, Hilka Kate Loeschen, is 20 IL. They were just married so there are no children listed, but there will be 5 by 1930. Been here in Ogden since he was born. He is a son of Fred S. Putnam and Anna Behrens. He married Kate in Danville December 26, 1917.

 

LEE F. (FRANCIS) PUTNAM  None listed, Champaign County

He is a son of Luther E. Putnam and was born here. Luther's dad was Charles Marsh Putnam from Ohio. He was here with his folks in 1880. Lee is listed as 59 IL.  His wife, Carrie N. McDowell, is 57 IN.  The children are: Willis M. 22 IL, Louise M. 18 IL, and a daughter-in- law, Ruth V. 18 IL, and a grand daughter, Dorothy H. 1 IL. Carrie will be widowed by 1930 and be living with her then married daughter Louise in Champaign City. Willis, Ruth and Dorothy will be in McLean County by 1930.

 

MINERVA E. PUTMAN  None listed, Champaign County

Minerva E. is listed as 34 IL, the stepdaughter of George E. Kienietz. She is a daughter of Fred Putnam who died in 1893, and her mother Anna Behrens married George in 1897. They are all here in Ogden in 1930.

 

FAITH PUTNAM  Owaneco, Christian County

Faith is listed as 22 IL, and was enumerated with Ora E. Shuler. Probably a dual listing for Herbert’s daughter Faith listed next.

 

H. H. (HENRY HERBERT) PUTNAM  Pana, Christian County

H. H. is listed as 48 IA NY NY.  His wife Anna Mardaga is 48 MD.  Their daughter, Faith, is 23 IA. He is a son of Henry H. Putnam and was with the family in 1880 in Delaware County Iowa. And was married to Anna in Du Page County Illinois in 1910. He is a construction supervisor. He will be in Riverside California in 1930 boarding and still working construction. In 1930, Anna is in Denver Colorado still married. Herb is simply in California on business. The family is originally from New York and Connecticut before that.

 

JAMES PUTNAM  None Listed, Christian County

He is listed as 72 MA.  His wife, Emma S., (Emma Sarah Paine), is 67 IL. He is a son of John Putnam and Flora Hawley of Hinsdale, Massachusetts. He came here in about 1855 and has been here the rest of his life. There are no children listed.

 

ELEANOR & JANETTE PUTNAM  Arlington Heights, Cook County

The daughters of Walis Ashbil Putnam, Eleanor is 27 IL, Janette 25 IL. They are the sisters-in-law of William C. Muller.

 

GRACE J. PUTNAM  Berwyn, Cook County

The widow of James Putnam from Canada. They were here in 1910. Grace J. Drake is listed as 39 IL.  Her son, Morgan D., is 18 IL.  Also in the household are two boarders: James C. Brown, 47 MO, and Maud F. Brown, 43 IL.

 

ALFRED E. (EDSON) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is 34 IL.  His wife, Sophronia Alice Wing, is 35 IL.  There are no children listed. He was home here in 1900 and with his folks in Oak Park in 1910. His folks are in Oak Park now. He is the son of Victor Charles Putman and Elizabeth Ann Ward. He was born in Chicago January 3, 1886 and will die in River Forest, Illinois January 6, 1942, a day short of the 1st anniversary of the Pearl Harbor bombing and the start of WWII out there. Don’t know Sophronia’s folks but she was born in Chicago March 17, 1885 and will die in La Jolla, San Diego County California February 28, 1966. They are in Chicago in 1930 and will be in River Forest, Cook County in 1940. Dutch Family originally from New York State.

 

ALTO PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

The son of William A. Putnam from here in Chicago. Alto is listed as 45 IN.  His wife, Minnie, is 45 MI.  There are no children listed. He has been here since the late 1800s.

 

ANNA PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

The widow of William H. Putman. They have been here a long time now. Anna is listed as 52 WI.  The children at home are: William H. (jr.) 27 MI, and Myrtle E. 28 MI.  Also in the household is her daughter-in- law, William's wife, Mae O’Dea 26 IL.  William H. and Mae do not have any children listed but will have by 1930 and 1940 when they are still here.

 

BENJAMIN C. (CLAYTON) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

The son of Frank Austin Putnam from here. Benjamin C. is listed as 44 IL.  His wife, Delia Edna Pierce, is 35 CT. Been here all his life. . He is a son of Frank Austin Putnam and Arabella Susette Foss was born here in Chicago May 30, 1875. He will die here in Chicago December 29, 1939. Della was born in Connecticut July 1, 1883 and will die out in Anaheim, Orange County California August 23, 1974. Massachusetts Family.

 

BIRD PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as 40 NY, a roomer who was enumerated with Charles S. O'Malley. I think this is Birdie Putman who is a gal here in 1930. See that listing.

 

CARL (KARL SOBIESKI) PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

The son of Rev. Glen Howard Putman and Mary Lewis, Carl is listed as Karl 32 MO (born in Grundy County Missouri). His wife, Mabel Hemingway Royce, is 28 IA.  Their daughter, Marjory Elise, is 4 SD. (Marjory was born in Huron, SD). They are in Riverdale, Cook County in 1930.

 

CHARLES PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

The son of William H. and Anna Putman from here, Charles is listed as 40 IL.  His wife, Helen, is 26 KS. He was born here. He is here by himself in 1930.

 

CHARLES B. (BROWNELL) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as 58 IL. His wife Elizabeth Freyer is 56 IL. Their daughter, Mabel, is 36 IL. They were in Worth, Cook County in 1900 and not found in 1910. Charles is a son of Hollis Putman and Charlotte Lobdell from New York. This is a New York Dutch Family.

 

CHARLES S. PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Charles S. is listed as 52 WI, the brother-in-law of Elton Baker, with whom he was enumerated.

 

CLAUDE PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Claude is listed as 55 PA, widowed, and a boarder with Patrick Menoque. He is a son of William A. Putman and Lydia Freeland from Steuben County New York and then briefly in Pennsylvania where Claude was born October 7, 1865. Then the family moved to Michigan. Claude married Martha ‘Mattie’ Bartlett there in Emerson Township, Gratiot County May 21, 1899. They were in Houghton County Michigan in 1900 and Benzie County in 1910. He will be in a Nursing home in Lake Worth, Florida in 1935 and 1940. He will die there in 1943. New Englander.

 

DANIEL T. (THOMAS) PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Daniel is listed as 65 IA IL IL, his wife Martha D. Harris is 63 CAN CAN CAN and they live with their married daughter Pearl A. 24 CO IA CAN and her husband Richard W. Phipps 23 MO US MO. He was born in Davis County Iowa October 28, 1953 and will die in St. Louis, Missouri July 13, 1922.  Martha was born in Canada May 23, 1856 and will also die in St. Louis on September 13, 1923. Daniel is a son of Daniel Thomas Putman and Jeanett Roundey from Davis County Iowa. His dad was a son of Elijah Putman and Elizabeth Duff from Fulton County Illinois and then Davis County Iowa. Daniel was at home in 1860 and 1870 and in Ogalalla, Nebraska with his brother Miles. He married Martha in 1889 probably in Colorado. It was her second marriage. They were in Denver in 1900 and in St. Louis in 1910. Southern Putman Family.

 

DANIEL G. (GUY) PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Daniel Guy is listed as 41 MI, Minnie 40 GER, Thelma 18 IL, and Nellie 5 IL. He is Daniel Guy Putnam a son of Robert K. and Mary E. Putnam from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was at home there in 1900 and in Saranac, Michigan in 1910 with Minnie and the kids. The kids were actually born in Michigan. I don’t find them in 1930 but they are here in Chicago in 1940 and in 1942 they are in Lake County Indiana when he registered for the draft at age 64.

 

EDWIN PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Edwin is listed as 55 WI.  His wife, Mary, is 52 CDN, Sereno 24 WI, and Angus 23 WI. Edwin is a son of Sereno James Monroe and Jane Putnam. They were in Rock County Wisconsin in 1900 and here in 1910.

 

ELBERT PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Elbert Victor is listed as 65 WI, a lodger with Johann Silsneos or Gilsneos. He is Erastus Putnam’s son. Erastus was in Waukesha County Wisconsin and then in Waupaca County Wisconsin. The family moved here to Chicago in the 1890s.

 

ELEANOR PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Eleanor is listed as 45 MA, and is living by herself. She is widowed and will be here in 1930 and 1940.

 

ELIZABETH A. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

She is listed as 86 CDN, and was enumerated with her daughter, Carrie E. Putnam, 48 CDN. They were here in 1910. Elizabeth Ann Dunn is the widow of George Young Putman from St. Catherine’s, Lincoln County Ontario. They were all there in the 1881 Canadian Census. The family came down to Kansas in the later 1880s or 1890s as Elizabeth was widowed here in the State 1895 census and in Atchison, Kansas in 1900. They were here in 1910 and Carrie is here in 1930 and 1940. This is a Dutch line going back into New York State.

 

ELLA PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Ella is listed as 50 (59) IL.  Her daughter, Frances, is 29 IL.  Also in the household are two lodgers: Ed Emery, 49 MO, and Walter Banks, 32 IL. They were here in 1900. Ella married James S. Putnam in 1889. He was a Black and she is white and her daughter a Mulatto.

 

EMMA PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Emma is listed as 60 IL, and is living by herself. Emma Grimm was married to Charles Henry Putnam here since they were married June 30, 1896

 

EMMA PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

The widow of John Elkins Putman, Emma Erhart Putman, is listed as 68 IL.  Her two daughters are: Alma R. 31 OH, and Dorothy 29 OH.

 

EVA PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Eva is listed as 50 DC and widowed. She is a dressmaker and is a lodger with David R. Hickey. She was married to Clarence Putnam from Vermont here in 1910. They were both listed as Mulattos and she is now as well.

 

FRANK A. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is 35 IL, Helen A. Larson 33 IL, Byron Richard 10 IL. He is a son of George and Sarah Putnam, and was born in East St. Louis, St. Clair County Illinois. His folks are still living there. Frank and Helen were here in Chicago in 1910 and will be in 1930.

 

FLORENCE PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

She is the daughter of Winthrop Davis Putnam and Jennie Barney from here. Florence is listed as 49 IL.  Also in the household are her companion, Francis Lake, 69 NY; and three roomers: Marion A. Kendall, 29 IL; Sydney Walker, 32 IL; and Woodruff Almlof 24 IL. She was here with her folks in 1900 and then her dad died here January 15, 1907 and she was with her widowed mother in 1910. She is here in 1930.

 

FRED M. (MONTGOMERY) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as 42 MI.  His wife Alice Maud Murphy is 36 MI.  The children are: Mary M. 16 IL, Alice D. 14 IL, John W. 12 IL, Catherine A. 9 IL, Helen A. 6 IL, and Robert J. 4 years and 6 months IL. They have a son Daniel who is 2 and not listed but will be in the 1930 census. Been here since the 1890s. In 1880, he pops up as a grandson of Edward Schryer in Hamtrack, Wayne County Michigan. Found a sheet that he is Fred Montgomery Putnam a son of John Egglestone Putnam and Ellen Schryer and was born in Port Huron, St. Clair County Michigan June 20, 1877 and will die here in Chicago July 12, 1945. According to the Sheet he was Minneapolis in 1918 and here in Chicago ever since. In the 1880 Michigan Census there was John E. Putnam and wife Ellen Schryer in Detroit, Wayne County and his dad was born in Lockport, Niagara County New York in 1845. Those were his folks. Family goes back to John Cornelius Putnam in Monroe County New York to Nathan Putnam from Worcester Massachusetts to Isaac Putnam and Rachel Pratt from Sutton, Massachusetts To Isaac Putnam and Ann Fuller from Salem Village, now Danvers, Massachusetts etc. back to England.

 

GEORGE G. (GLEN) PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

George G. is listed as 25 IL.  His wife, Beatrice M., is 27 IL. There are no children listed. He is George Glenn Putman a son of George B. Putman and Edith Elizabeth Cook and was born August 14, 1894 in Grant, Vermilion County and was there in 1900 and in Danville, Vermilion County in 1910 with his folks. He married Beatrice about 1917. They never had any children. He was born August 14, 1894. Beatrice was born May 30, 1892.They are in Waukegan, Lake County coupl miles north of here in 1930 and will be back here in 1940. Both died in Barry, Illinois in March 1973. Wonder if in a car accident. Anyway this is part of the Southern Putman line out of Virginia to Kentucky to Champaign County Ohio then Fountain County Indiana and then here in the 1860s.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is 26 MS, the son-in-law of Eliza Clark. His wife Imo 27 IL is there too. They are blacks.

He is 65 NY, his wife, Catherine, is 65 IRL, children are: Sarah 28 IL, and Catherine 26 IL. Been here since the 1800s and are here in 1930.

 

GEORGE P. (PALMER) PUTNAM, JR.  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as 44 NY, a lodger with Wilfred H. Osgood. He is here in 1930. He is a son of George Palmer Putnam and Agnes Hall from New York City. He was home there in 1900.

 

HARRY C. PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

The son of William A. Putman from here in Chicago.  Harry is listed as 34 IL.  His wife, Clara, is 35 IN.  Their son, Chester, is 16 IL.

 

HATTIE PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Hattie is listed as 62 WI, a lodger who was enumerated at the Moody Bible Institute. Hattie is a daughter of Leander Putnam and Martha Emoretta Pike and was born in their brief trip to Wisconsin in mid 1850s. Leander and Martha were from Vermont and out to Kansas. Hattie was with her widowed mother In Richmond, Franklin County Kansas in 1910 and I don’t find her in 1920.

 

HELEN M. & JOSEPHINE PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

The daughters of Erastus I. Putnam who was here in 1910. Helen M. is listed as 69 WI.  Her sister, Josephine Putnam, is 57 WI.

 

HERBERT PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

The son of Alonzo Sylvester Putman from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. They were all there in 1900 and 1910. Herbert is listed as 31 WI.  His wife, Ella Larson, is 24 WI.  Their son, Zerah (John in 1930), is 5 WI.  Also there are his mother, Lucretia, 50 CND, and his brother, Robert A. 13 WI. They are here except for Lucretia in 1930.

 

HORACE D. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as 68 MA, a lodger with John Olson. He is the son of Thomas H. Putnam, and was at home in Franklin, Norfolk County Mass. in 1860. This is the ‘Other’ New England family. He has been here since the 1870s. His wife Ellen has died since 1910.

 

HOWARD PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as 33 IL.  His wife, Annette, is 34 NY.  Their daughter, Alice J., is 1 year and 8 months.  He is a son of Howard Melancthon Putnam and Emma Josephine Clark from Licking County Ohio. He was born in Warren County Illinois. In 1910 he was with his mother in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Also in the household is his mother, Josephine Putnam, 64 IL. Howard’s full name is Merritt Howard or visa versa. He and Annette are in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1930 with Alice and a young Howard.

 

JAMES M. PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

James M. is listed as 37 RUS, Minnie, is 40 IA.  His stepdaughter, Hazel Erickson, is 17 IL. They are here in 1930.

 

JAMES PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

James is listed as 27 MO.  His wife, Elma Hoover, is 25 CA.  There are no children listed. He married Elma Frances Hoover September 8, 1919 and they divorced in 1922. He is in San Diego, California in 1930 and 1940 with another wife. No ideas as to his line. His death card reads that he is James Baker Putnam born February 2, 1892 in Missouri and died in San Diego January 26, 1955.

 

JOHN L. (LUTHER) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

John is listed as 45 ME.  His wife, Marion B., is 44 RI. Their son, John L., Jr., is 8 IN. He is a son of Black Hawk Putnam of Houlton, Aroostook County Maine. He has been working for the Telephone Company in South Bend, Indiana for a bunch of years. He will die here in Chicago February 23, 1922.

 

JOHN P. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

The son of Samuel Porter Putnam, John P. is listed as 75 IL, the father-in-law of Samuel W. Doran. He was married here through 1900 and widowed in 1910.

Joseph is listed as 44 KY.  His wife, Delia Minnehan, is 42 WI.  Their son Thomas Marvin, is 18 IL. They have been here since the 1890s. I don’t find them in 1930 but Joseph will die in March 1940 and Delia is widowed here in the 1940 census taken in April. She will die here October 6, 1941.  His Illinois Death Index has him as being born in Louisville, Jefferson County Kentucky December 18, 1870 and he was a son of Nathan Putnam and Catherine McCoy and will die here April 2, 1940. Nathan Henry was a son of Dr. Joseph Whitney Putnam and I have him marrying Nancy Spaulding in Adair County Kentucky November 10, 1875. So he must have either married Catherine very early in 1870 to have Joseph, named for his grandfather, in December or had Joseph out of wedlock. At any rate they weren’t together in 1875.

 

LAWSON L. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Lawson L. is listed as 33 CO.  His wife, Eleanor A. Jones, is 32 OH. He is a son of Leslie Lincoln and Ada Putnam. He was home in 1900 in Greeley, Weld County Colorado. They are here in 1930.

 

LEMUEL P. PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

Lemuel P is listed as 34 IA.  His wife Edna Mosher is 32 SD. The children are: Winifred H. 3 IL, and Lemuel P., Jr., 1 IL. He is the son of Jay Samuel Putnam and Rebecca Sutton. He was in Carroll County Iowa in 1880 and in Custer County South Dakota in 1900. He married Edna there July 24, 1913. The rest of the family kept on going out to Oregon. He and his family will be out there in Portland by 1930 too.

 

LEO PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

The son of William Alexander Putnam and Belle Darnell from here in Chicago, Leo is listed as 42 IL.  There is no wife listed.  His twin daughters are: Cora 17 IL, and Catherine 17 IL. He was born here and had a wife named Mary in 1910. He is also listed now in the Elgin State Hospital in Elgin, Kane County Illinois.

 

LESLIE PUTMAN  Chicago, Cook County

He is listed as 28 KY, a lodger, but the landlord is not recorded. Leslie Hall Putman is a son of Charles Monroe Putman and Susan Thomas Wallingford and was born in Fleming County Kentucky December 30, 1891. He was at home there in 1900 and single in Campbell County Kentucky living with his dad’s brother William Henry Putman and Matilda Bank. William owned a candy company and Les was working as a clerk there. He’s moving around a lot and will marry Edna Phillips in Allen County Indiana August 26, 1921. He is living in Lexington, Kentucky when he registered for the draft in 1941 and was drafted there in 1942. He will die in Dade County Florida in October 1963.

 

LOTTIE PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Lottie is listed as 40 IA.  Her daughter, Betty, is 24 MI. Charlotte Bond was briefly married to Fred Eugene Putnam. They were in Beaumont, Texas in 1900 and their daughter Bessy or Betty was with them at age 5 born in Michigan. By 1910 Fred was married to Anna Gray and had another wife, Pearl Harris, before calling it quits and dying August 7, 1931 of shear exhaustion. Charlotte will be in Los Angeles, California in 1930 and in Burbank, California in 1940.

 

LOUIS L. PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Lewis is listed as 58 MI.  His wife Lillian is 45 IL. He is a son of William Putnam and Abby Styles, and was born July 9, 1862. He was with the family in 1870 in Jackson County Michigan and 1880 in Calhoun County Michigan. He was married to Florence in Detroit, Michigan in 1900. They separated and she was alone there in 1910 and now in 1920. Louis is divorced in Los Angeles, California in 1930. Lillian is in Daytona Beach, Florida by herself in 1930 and 1940. Louis/Lewis will be in Santa Barbara California and die there December 19, 1942. Now …. This looks like Lillian Sherman who was married to Henry Jasper Putnam and was with him in Concord, New Hampshire in 1910. And seems she is with him in Daytona Beach Florida in the late 1920s. Hmmmm????

He is 52 NY, his wife, Anna, is 49 IL.  Their son, Lester W., is 25 IL. He is a son of Alfred D. Putnam of Brutus, Cayuga County New York. He was born there July 25, 1867. He has been here since the late 1800s. He will die in 1923. I don’t find Anna in 1930, but she and Lester are here in 1935 and 1940 and I am sure in 1930, but mis-indexed.

She is kinda missing in 1930 but is ‘single’ here in Chicago in 1940. She will be in Buffalo New York and die there in 1946.

The son of Edward G. Putnam, Otto L. is listed as 65 IL.  His daughter, Villa (Putnam) Walsh, is 33 IL.  His son-in-law, John P. Walsh, is 43 IL.  There are no Walsh children listed. He was widowed here in 1910 and married in Livingston County before that.

Patrick Henry is listed as 45 IL.  His wife, Abbie McDole, is 43 ME. Also in the household is his sister-in-law, Mary McDole, 50 ME. They were here in 1910 and will be in 1930. Pat is a son of Stephen C. Putnam and Susan Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. He was born January 9, 1872 in Harrison, Winnebago County Illinois and was at home there in 1880. He was single in South Springs, New Mexico in 1900 working on an oil well. He married Abbie McDole by 1910. They were here in 1910 and will be in 1930. He will die Christmas Eve December 24, 1935. Abbie is widowed here in 1940.

She is a daughter of Nelson Jay Putnam and Cora May Hunter and was at home in Seymour, Outagamie County Wisconsin in 1910 and will be back with the family in Beloit, Rock County Illinois in 1930. Dutch folks out of New York State.

They were in Webber Township, Lake County in 1880. Layton was in Saginaw, Saginaw County living by himself in 1900 and Rosina was with the Vivians in Grand Rapids, Kent County Michigan in 1900.

Thomas is listed as 76 AL.  His wife Serena Cummins is 64 MO.  They are listed as lodgers but the landlord is not recorded. He is a son of Howard Mercer Putman, born in Benton County Alabama. They were in St. Louis in 1900. He will die shortly and Serena will return to St. Louis and then die there on August 18, 1928. Southern Putman family.

He is listed as 49 MA.  His wife Ella F. Kivion is 35 NJ.  Their son, Robert W., is 1 CA. He is the son of William Mason Putnam (2904) and Sabra Dickinson from Worcester County Mass. He was in Everett and Boston Massachusetts in 1900, then obviously went to California. They will be back in Glendale, California by 1930. He is a traveling salesman for hardware.

 

WARREN C. (CHARLES) PUTNAM  Chicago, Cook County

Warren Putnam is listed as 26 NY, a lodger with Lydia Belle Gibson. He is a son of Charles Putnam and Julia Harrington and was born April 9, 1893 and was at home in 1900 in Glens Falls, Warren County New York and in 1910 in Altamont, Franklin County New York. He is still single in 1932 in Los Angeles California and is there in 1940 with his sister Nell. He will die in Los Angeles May 17, 1966.

The son of Charles Putnam and Rachel Ostrander from here in Chicago and Canada before that. Warner C. is listed as 34 CDN.  His wife Bertha Walter is 34 IL.  There are no children listed.  Also in the household are his sister-in-law, Mrs. John Roth, 41 IL, and two of her children, Harold J. Roth, 18 IL, and John F. Roth, 9 IL.

William is listed as 20 OH, a lodger with name not recorded. He is the son of Anthony Puttman and Frances Haverkamp. He was at home in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1900 with his widowed mother. He was living in Cincinnati in 1917 when he enlisted in the Army. He is married to Virginia Hogan here in 1930 and 1940. This is a family directly from Germany.

He is a son of Judson Putnam and Christine Brening from Waukegan. They were here in 1910 and are here in 1930 and his widowed dad will be with him by then, though right now he is up the lake still in Waukegan.

Helen is a second wife as he was married Medora Hoffman in Missouri February 27, 1902. He is the son of Edwin Putnam (2632) and Julietta Lawrence from Jackson County Michigan and then Whiteside County Illinois where he was born. He was then in Cedar, Jasper County Missouri in 1900 and ‘missing’ in 1910, but these two kids and one more were in an orphanage in Denver in 1910. They are all here in 1930. He is a printer. They are here in 1930. Edwin was a son of Jeremy and Sarah Putnam (1174) from Vermont and then Michigan.

He is listed as 39 IL IL OH, a lodger with William C. McConnell. He is a son of William A. and Belle Putman. He was at home here with them in 1900 and alone since. I don’t find the folks since then. They were here in 1910 and are still in 1930. Harold will be here in 1930 but widowed by then. William is widowed by 1940. He is a son of Daniel Putnam and Louisa Damarius Fowler and was born in Kinderhook, Pike County Illinois in 1857 and will die in Chicago August 10, 1944. Family from New England to New York to here.

John is listed as 42 IL.  His wife, Hazel Guild, is 27 MO.  The children are: Robert 9 IL, Arthur 7 IL, Frances 4 IL, Mildred 2 years and 4 months IL, and Vernon a newborn child IL. He is a son of Samuel Putnam and Margaret Ann Browner from Sangamon County. He was married to Jessie Sutter in Sangamon County in 1910. When you get to the 1930, you’ll see all the kids but Robert and Vernon are Hazel’s from an earlier marriage. They all have last names of Frosberg. They are all here in 1930.

John is listed as 32 WI.  His wife, Jennie H. Clark, is 31 SCT.  Their daughter, Jean B., is 5 MA (born while they were in Somerville, Mass.). He is a son of Sylvester Putnam and Laura Chatterton and was born in Beloit, Rock County Wisconsin October 21, 1885. He was at home with his widowed mother in Wisconsin in 1900 and was single here in Harvey in 1910 and they all will be in Spring Lake, Michigan in 1930. His WWI draft registration states his middle name is Chester as does a family group sheet.

 

VICTOR R. (ROBERT) PUTNAM  La Grange, Cook County

He is listed as 13 IL, an inmate in the Illinois Masonic Orphans Home. In 1910 he is in Chicago listed as Robert 3 IL grandson of Robert Dunn. In 1920 he is listed Victor R. in La Grange Cook County. In 1930 he is in Carondelet, St. Louis County Missouri listed as Victor Putman 23 IL a private in the Army at Jefferson Barracks. And in 1940 he is married in Clay County Arkansas. He is the son of Richard Edward Putman and Bertha L. Dunn. Richard is a son of Victor Charles Putman who is listed next. His mom Bertha Dunn married his dad in Chicago March 27, 1906 and got divorced after he was born. His mom then married George Mullenix January 13, 1911 and then she died October 22, 1918 and that’s why he is in this Orphanage.

 

RICHARD PUTMAN  Melrose Park, Cook County

He is listed as 35 IL.  His wife, Hilda Uschner, is 31 IL. There are no children listed.  Also in the household is his mother-in-law, Helen Uschner 58 GER. He is a son of Victor Charles Putman and Elizabeth Ann Ward. He was home in Chicago in 1900 and in Oak Park in 1910. He did married Bertha Dunn in Chicago March 27, 1906. They had a son Robert Victor Putman in 1907 and split. The son Robert Victor is listed right above in an orphanage. First wife Bertha married George W. Mullenix in Chicago January 13, 1911. Berha just died in 1918 and that’s why their son is in an orphanage. The folks are in Oak Park now. This is his second marriage. Richard will die in Melrose Park Cook County May 9, 1929 and Hilda is widowed here in 1930. New York Dutch folks.

 

LOUIS J. (JAY) PUTNAM  Oak Park, Cook County

He is 41 IA, Kathryn W., is 41 WI.  The children are: Kathryn 14 WI, and Louis S. 13 WI. He is and has been a civil engineer for the railroad. He is a son of Henry Harold Putnam and Elvira Stanclift from Delaware County Iowa. He was home there in 1880. He was single Delta County Michigan in 1900 and married there in 1910. He works as an engineer for the railroad and died of an accidental drowning in Ross Lake, Michigan. The death certificate says he was born in Iowa February 17, 1879 and died May 29, 1920. Kathryn signed the death certificate. Kathryn is widowed here in 1930.

He is 59 IL, Elizabeth Ann Ward his wife 60 CAN. They were in Chicago in 1900, and here ever since. He is a son of George Putman and Sarah Ann Short from Morgan County. They are here in 1930.

 

RUSH M. (MINOR) PUTNAM  Palatine, Cook County

The son of Dennis Putnam, He is 63 IL.  His second wife, Minnie Ohms, is 47 IL.  Their son, Albert R., is 12 IL. They have been here since the early 1900s. He was born in Lake County and will die here January 18, 1930. Minnie is widowed here in 1930 with her parents, so I now have her maiden name.

Charles E. is listed as 49 IL.  His wife, Mary J., is 42 IL. He is a son of Abraham Hanson Putman from Ogle County. Dutch family from New York.

The son of John D., Guy C. is listed as 25 IL.  His wife, Ella L., is 24 OH.  Their son, Frederick B. is 1 year and 11 months IL.

The son of John D. Putman, Otis O. Putman is listed as 29 IL.  His wife, Sylvia, is 32 IL.  The children are: Richard J. 5 years and 8 months IL, and Eugene O. 1 year and 2 months. They are in Peoria in 1930.

Charles Henry is listed as 38 IA.  His wife, Lulu M. Botts, is 38 MO.  The children are: Philip 6 IL, Pearl 4 years and 1 month old IL, and Paul 2 years and 2 months old IL.  Also in the household are: Charles' mother, Cornelia (Chamberlain), 71 NY; and a servant Lillian Fadd, 40 OH. He was in Evanston in 1910. He is a son of Henry Harrison Putnam and Cornelia Ann Chamberlain. He was born in Bedford, Taylor County Iowa. His dad was born in Wardsboro, Vermont. Henry was a son of Prentiss B. Putnam of Vermont and Sutton, Massachusetts before that. Charles and Lulu will be getting a divorce here in 1944. In fact three of his four children will also get divorces in the 1945-1954 time frame. Only Paul Milton will make it. They are in DeKalb County in 1930. He is a Methodist Preacher.

Wheeler is listed as 48 NY. His wife Fredericka Gocke is 44 MO, Harriet L. 17 MO and Harry R. 14 IL. They were here in 1920. He is a son of Hervey Putnam from Rose, Wayne County New York. Line goes back to Connecticut. He was at home in 1880 and in Buchanan County Missouri in 1900 and married there in 1910, and are here in 1930.

He is listed as 35 MO MO NC.  His wife Sarah Ann is 33 IL, Sarah Jane, is 6 days old IL. He is a son of Thomas Benton Putman and Mary Jane Meyers from Greene County Missouri. He was born there in 1886 and was at home in 1900. They were here in 1910 in Benton City, Franklin County. They will move to Beckley, West Virginia in the next few years and have a daughter there in 1927 and be there in the 1930 census. He is a supervisor in a coal mine now and will be a coal mine operator when he gets to West Virginia.

ELLA BELLE PUTMAN  Canton, Fulton County

Ella Belle is listed as 60 IL and widowed, a roomer with Luzetta Sanders. In the 1885 Kansas census there was a G. L. Putman in Osage County that had a wife Ella B. age 25 IL. This fits this gal, but no ideas as to who G. L. Putman was and not positive the two Ellas are the same.

He is listed as 39 IL and is a lawyer.  His wife, Clara Thompson, is 38 IL.  The children are: Mary E. 9 IL, Lewis T. 7 IL, and Charles F. 5 IL. He is a son of Francis Putman and Clara Sanders from here in Canton.

 

FRED PUTMAN  Canton, Fulton County

Fred is listed as 24 IL.  His wife, Marie, is 25 IL.  Their niece, Freda Helm, is 6 months old, MO. In 1900, he was listed in Lewistown as a grandson of Alexander Wilcox. In the same census was Fred H. Putman 21 and boarding. I found a sheet for Fred and says his folks were William Putman and Lucinda Hensley. Their marriage record says they were married in Lewistown March 27, 1890. They split or something as she married Ambrose Green Sanders here May 6, 1900. He's part of our family, but don't know the folks. They are here in 1930 and 1940. Fred’s gravestone in Canton says born 1895 died 1951.

He was born February 11, 1877 and will die July 20, 1963. He graduated Rush Medical School in Chicago and is a doctor. He married Nelle Hanlon in 1911. She was born December 15, 1882 and died December 12, 1963.

The son of Robert Putman and Philena Murphy from Buckheart, Fulton County where he was born October 10, 1872. Lewis is listed as 47 IL.  His wife, Maggie, Julia May Gilpin, is 44 WV.  Their daughter, Elsie, is 2 years and 8 months IL.  Also in the household is his mother-in-law, Anna Gilpin, 80 OH, and May Sinclair, 16 IL. They were here in 1910 and will be in 1930 and 1940

In 1900, he was listed as a grandson of Alexander Wilcox as was his brother Fred. Just not sure how they fit in, but they DO fit into our family. Marion is listed as 22 IL.  His wife Blanch Hardin is 22 IL.  The children are: Virginia 1 year and 8 months IL, and John D. 5 months IL. They are all in Kenosha County Wisconsin in 1930. See that listing. There is a Lucinda Sprague listed as his mother.

The son of James D., Oscar is listed as 39 IL, a partner with Charles McBroom. His dad James had married a widow Elizabeth McBroom. He and Charles are half brothers. They are here in 1930.

He is listed as 52 IL. His wife, Ida Mae Barnes, is 52 NY. No children listed. He is a son of Jeremiah Putnam and his second wife Nancy Downer and was born here. His dad was from New Hampshire and was a teacher in West Albany, New York in 1850 and then here from the mid 1850s till he died in 1872. Jerry will be here till he dies June 26, 1937, Ida till November 6, 1937.

Reuben junior is listed as 57 IL.  His wife Minna ‘Minnie’ Fredericka Lange is 44 GER.  The children at home are: Walter 14 IL, Raymond 13 IL, and Arnie 12 IL. Reuben was born here in Kankakee December 29, 1861 and will die here February 17, 1933. Minnie is a daughter of Johann Gottfried Lange and Louise Poewe and was born in Koenigsberg, Germany March 27, 1875 and will die here in Kankakee November 10, 1947.

Clarence A. Putnam, is listed as 36 NY.  His wife Lola A. Firebaugh is 35 IL. The children are: Viola J. 10 NY, Clarence F. 4 NY, and Lewis C. 1 year and 3 months old, IL.  Also 2 boarders, one is Leslie Firebaugh 21 IL. I would guess that Leslie is a cousin or brother. The son Clarence Firebaugh was born September 13, 1915 and will die in Marietta, Georgia February 14, 1975. His wife was Helen Koempel, born October 25, 1917 and died September 19, 2000. He is a son of William Putman and Emma Crane from Cattaraugus County New York. Clarence and Lola were back there in 1910. They are all back in Cattaraugus County in New York in 1926 and there for the 1930. Dutch family.

She is Nellie Sophia Henderson, the ex-wife of Orlean Elhanna Putnam, 58 IL.  The children at home are: Wilbur D. 31 NE, David Budd 27 NE, and Frances 23 TX. She says that she is divorced in the 1930, must be now too.  Have no idea where Orlean is, possibly in Alberta Canada where he was in 1901 and 1906. But he is alive and well as he won’t die until 1946.

 

MRS. W. D. (WILLIAM DUDLEY) PUTNAM  Deerfield, Lake County

She is 34 NE and states she is married. She has Dudley 10 IL IL NE, John 9 IL and Thomas 6 IL. Helen Bryant is married to or was to the following Dudley W. Putnam. They will go to Florida, loose their money and Dudley (the dad) will abandon them and return here to Illinois. The kids are in Polk County Florida with her parents the Bryants in 1930. Helen was born in 1885 and will die in 1961. I guess they will get back together as Helen will die in Polk County Florida in 1961 and William Dudley will die there December 14, 1972. The son Thomas Bryant will be there in 1935 and be a Captain in the Army at that time.

Abel A. is listed as 70 VT.   There is no wife listed, so Abigail Dudley his wife must be somewhere as she is widowed here in 1930.  His son, Dudley W., is 35 IL.  His sister(?), Genette Libbins, is 50 ENG. I list his line back in 1900.

John Able Putnam is listed as 50 MA.  His wife Annie Scott Winchester is 47 MO. There are no children listed.  He was born in Boston, son of Abel Adelbert Putnam and Abbie Anna Dudley. The family moved to Chicago in the 1870s. John has been here in Lake County on the North Shore since the 1900. He will have a new wife, Imogene Higgie, here in 1930.

The son of Wallace Ashbil Putnam, Dennis L. is listed as 39 IL.  His wife, Jennie B. Seymore, is 35 IL.  There are no children listed.  Also in the household is his father listed as Walis A. 72 IL. Obviously not only did the census folks have trouble the writing they couldn’t spell for beans.

Rodey Joe is listed as 19 NM, and was enumerated at the U. S. Naval Training Station. He is a son of Robert and Lucy Putnam and was at home in Silver City, Grant County New Mexico in 1910. He was born in Winston, New Mexico September 2, 1902.

Irene V. is listed as 30 MI, a research aide with the U. S. Army General Hospital #28. She is a daughter of William Eugene Putnam and Jennie Wilson. She was born in Michigan April 22, 1889 and was at home with her folks in 1920 in Whiting, Lake County and in 1940 Whiting, Lake County Indiana. Yes, Indiana. She is still working in a hospital and will be single all her life.

Reverend Glen H. is listed as 63 NY.  His wife, Mary Lewis, is 50 OH. There are no children listed. He will die here on May 31, 1924. He is a son of Glen Putman and Letitia Paulison from Glen, Montgomery County New York. He was born there January 31, 1852. This is a Dutch family. They were in Jo Davies County Illinois in 1900, and in Hamilton County Iowa in 1910.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Belle Prairie, Livingston County

He is 61 IL NY NY and now widowed since his wife Catherine Schilling has died. With him is his divorced daughter Ollie Bowman 25 IL, and two of her sons Clifford 6 IL and Sterling Bowman 4 4/12 IL. John Sterling Putnam is a son of Aaron Putnam and Sarah Tenney. He was born here and his folks were from Clinton County New York and Vermont before that. His daughter Ollie was still at home in 1910, and then had been married to a Bowman and then divorced. Another of his daughters, Emma Louise, is married to William Hopper and they are in Rooks Creek, Livingston County now. Louise will die in the next several years and Ollie will marry William and they are all here with John in the 1930 census.

George is listed as 45 IL.  His wife, Myrtle, is 29 IL.  The children at home are: a daughter, Landell (?) 9 IL, and a son, Moyn (? But that’s what it is in 1920) 8 IL. He is a son of Albro Philander Putnam and Sarah Jane White from McLean County and then here. Folks were from Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

Louis is listed as 38 IL.  His wife Minnie Hoskins is 27 IL. The children are: Archey 8 IL, Roy 7 IL, and Arthur 3 IL.  Also in the household is his brother-in-law, Lester Hoskins, 30 IL. All but Louis are in Kankakee, Illinois in 1940 in a very screwed up entry. He is another son of Albro Putnam and Sarah Jane White from McLean County and then here. Folks were from Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

George is listed as George Putnan, 34 NY.  His wife, Pearl Holcomb, is 31 IA. The children are: Lucile 14 IL, Willard 10 IL, and Lyle 5 IL.  Also there is his brother-in-law, Harvey Holcomb, 18 IL. They were here in 1910 too and will be in 1930. He looks like the son of George and Helen Putnam from Steuben County New York. That George was home in 1900 at age 15 and gone by 1910. He is a city fireman. He will die here January 7, 1944

 

JACK A.(ALBERT) PUTNAM  Decatur, Macon County

He is 7 IL and a stepson of William A. Bowen. His mother Hazel E. Richmond 28 IL IL IL. They are here in 1930. Hazel married the John A. Putman who was single here in 1910. Actually there is a gravestone here that states she was the wife of John A. Putnam who died here October 23, 1915. He was born June 3, 1888. Hazel died here January 7, 1950 and they are buried together.

William A. is listed as 60 NC.  His wife, Lydia J. Moseley, is 50 MO.  The children at home are: Ira F. 30 MO, Florence 16 MO, Lydia 13 MO, Edith 11 AR, and a son, Finis, 6 AR. Their other son Christopher is now out in Montana and will remain there forever. William is the eldest son of Jeremiah and Charlotte Putman from Guilford County North Carolina. They have been in Calloway County Missouri for ages, and in Fayetteville, Washington County Arkansas in 1910. This is that Quaker family that just popped up in Virginia in the late 1700s. They will be back in Washington County Arkansas by the 1930.

The widow of Uzziel Franklin Putnam. Martha Jane Cannon is listed as 71 IL, the mother-in-law of James M. Hollister. James had married her daughter Della Mae here on February 8, 1900. Della was born back in Osage Mission, Kansas on April 16, 1880. Martha will die here later in 1920.

He is a son of George and Leora listed here in Harvard. He is listed as 33 WI.  His wife Harriett Marvin is 51 MI (that’s right, she was much older and married before. Elmer was hers and Clifford theirs).  The children are: Elmer 17 IL, and Clifford 9 IL. They are here in 1930.

George Washington is listed as 67 WI.  His wife, Leora M. DeLine, is 57 WI.  The children at home are: Loran 26 WI, George 17 IL, and Elizabeth (Fern) 13 IL. They were here in 1900. He is a son of Frederick and Jane Putman from New York. He was born in 1853 in Linn, Walworth County Wisconsin. The family is Dutch out of Montgomery County NY.

 

OLIVER L. (LEWIS) PUTNAM  Harvard, McHenry County

He is listed as 44 NY.  His wife Mary Crumb is 42 WI.  The children at home are: Russell 15 WI, and Monroe L. 12 IL.  Also in the household is a roomer, Jane R. Aker, 32 WI. He was here in 1900 with his widowed mother Kate, and married here in 1910. I can’t find him in 1880 so no clue as to his folks, but Oliver was born in Canajoharie, Montgomery County New York May 18, 1873, so he’s on the New York Dutch Putman line.

 

FRANCES PUTNAM  Saybrook Village, McLean County

The widow of Albert Allen Putnam, Frances J. Wells is listed as 73 CDN, and is living by herself. He and Fanny were married Christmas Day December 25, 1867. They were here in 1880 and 1900 and in St. Josephs County Michigan in 1910. She is still here in 1930. Albert was a son of Perley Putnam and Margaret Ramsey from New York. He died in St. Josephs County April 17, 1912 and Frances came back after that. Frances is a daughter of John Wells and Isabelle Watson and was born March 28, 1846. She will die in Saybrook, Illinois January 3, 1931.

The son of Luther E. Putnam from Champaign County Frank E. is listed as 56 OH.  His wife, Kittie, is 56 IL.  The children at home are: Luella 21 IL, and Glenn 15 WI.

Harold is listed as 18 IL and Nellie 16 IL. They listed as stepchildren of William Henderson. They were here with their widowed mom May Ninemeyer Putnam in 1910. May had married Henry Putnam from here and they were in Ford County in 1900. Henry was a son of Albro Putnam from here. She has since married William Henderson. Harold is married in Chicago in 1930 and 1940.

They are listed as lodgers with John F. Nicholson. They have been here since the 1890s. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Margaret Honican. He was at home with his widowed mom in Will County in 1870 and then with a sister there in 1880.

Lelia Jane Putman is listed as 18 IL, the stepdaughter of Fred 30 IL and Anna Mayfield 40 IL. She is a ‘bander’ in a cigar store. Anna Knowles is her mother. Anna was married to James Arthur Putman and they were in Elkhorn, Brown County Illinois in 1900 and 1910. James died in Adams County Illinois March 1, 1913. She then married Fred and they divorced in the 1930 and she died in Calumet, Cook County May 4, 1941. Lelia will marry Joseph Harold Ryan in Detroit, Michigan on August 12, 1922 and they are there in 1930 and in St. Clair Shores, Macomb County Michigan in 1940 and then they divorced there December 24, 1942 as an early Christmas Present to both. She will die about 2007.

He is 54 MA, his wife, Lillian F. 52 PA, Edith E. 16 KS, and John W. 14 KS. They were here in 1910. George is a son of George Augustus Putnam and Fannie Maria Wells of Yarmouth, Cumberland County Maine. His dad was a minister originally from Massachusetts.

John F. is listed as 39 OH.  His wife, Ada G., is 28 IL. He is a son of David E. Putnam and Susan Ramsey from Franklin County Ohio. He was home there in 1900. They are here in 1930.

He has been here since the 1890s. He is a son of Joseph Putnam and Mary (Wheeler I think) and was born in Chemung County New York, and there through the 1870. By 1880 the family was in Lenawee County Michigan. His dad was a son of Silas Putnam and Martha Jordan. The family is from Vermont and Massachusetts before that. He runs a hardware store. Can’t find in 1930, but she and the kids are here in 1940 and say they were in 1935 so would be in 1930.

Fred H. is listed as 44 NY.  His wife, Josephine Emerson, is 41 IL.  Their daughter, Marion, is 1 year and 5 months old, IL.  Also there is his father-in-law, Albert G. Emerson, 77 OH. He is a son of Joseph Putnam and Mary Wheeler and was born in Chemung County New York. By 1880 the family was in Lenawee County Michigan, and then he came here in the late 1880s with his brother Willard.

George is listed as 57 IL.  His wife, Rosa, is 49 KY.  He is a son of Francis Putman and Caroline Bates and was with the family in Tazewell County in 1870 and 1880. They were married in Tazewell County in 1900, and then here in the 1900 on.

June is listed as 69 IL, and is living by herself. June Farley is the widow of James M. Putnam. They were from Brown County but have been here since the 1890s. James died here July 26, 1908.

Robert R. is 7 IL, Ray 5 IL. They are listed as grandsons of Willis R. Henry. They are kids of Harrison Leroy Putnam and Elise Sarah Henry from Springfield. The folks split and these two sons will be married in Springfield in 1940.

Francis Amelia Wicker is listed as 72 NY.  Her daughter, Grace, is 43 OH. She is the widow of Edward Howell Putnam. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He was born February 14, 1824 in Warsaw, Wyoming County New York and died here in Hazelton, Buchanan County Iowa on March 29, 1908. She was born May 2, 1847 in Lockport, New York and will die in Ohio January 20, 1938.

Leonard is 18 IL, Vernon 20 IL, lodgers with Eric Charlberg. They are kids of George Allen Putman and Nellie Kees of Brown County. They were home with their widowed mother there in 1910. Leon will marry Vida Weber and be in McDonough County in 1930 and run a grocery store there.

 

RUTH PUTNAM  Dupo, St. Clair County

She is listed as 51 PA.  The children at home are: Victor J. (John) 26 IL, Charles U. (Uzziel) 16 IA, Grace I. 15 IA, and John A. (Anderson) 11, born in Manitoba, Canada. She is Ruth Ellen Holmes, widow of John Anderson Putnam, son of Uzziel Franklin Putnam. John and the family were in Iowa in 1900 and in Missouri in 1910. He died in 1910, and Ruth moved over here. Their son Victor will be marrying Opal Fern Keyser here in a month on July 28, 1920. Their son Roy is married here in 1930, and is in Missouri now.

Harry is listed as 25 GER (Oh come on he’s IL CAN MO).  His wife Jeanette Basche is 20 IL.  Their son Harry Junior is 2 IL. He is a son of George and Sarah Putnam from here. He was born here and will be here through 1940.

The son of Kenneth Putnam and Mattie May Jackson. He is listed as 12 IL, the grandson of George A. Jackson. He was here in 1910. They are here in 1930

Walter E. is listed as 34 IL.  His wife, Hattie J., is 30 IL. The children are: Shelby J. (John) 11 IL, and Dorothy S. 9 IL, and a stepson Wilbur W. James 11 IL. Harriet James is a new wife. In 1910 he was married to a Goldie and was in Taylorville, Christian County in both 1900 and 1910. He is widowed again by 1930 and has the kids with him. He is a son of James Putnam and Emma Sarah Paine from Christian County.

The son of William H. Putnam, born back in Wabash County. Ross Griffith is listed as 36 IL.  His wife, Kate (Katherine Milliken), is 33 IL.  The children are: Miriam J. 9 IL, and William H. 6 IL. They were here in 1910, and will be in 1930.

 

CLAY (HENRY CLAY) PUTMAN  Springfield, Sangamon County

The son of Jonathan Putnam, he was born here in the County. Henry Clay Putnam is listed as 46 IL IL IL.  His wife, Jennie, is 43 IN. He is a coal miner and will be here till he dies in 1924. Clay was married to Jessie Hesselrigg who died here in 1898. Her parents sued for custody of their two daughters. They won in 1899 and the kids are with them. There was a third daughter, Anna, who was sent to Colorado to live. Clay then headed south to New Orleans, Louisiana, married Sophia Schlotton there in 1905, and they were hand in hand there in 1910. Again he said enough is enough and snuck out and back to Springfield, Illinois and was a coal miner hiding down deep. He has a cute third wife Jennie there in 1920 and then packs it in and dies in 1924. Sophie will spend the rest of her life dangling her feet in the Mississippi in New Orleans and is with her married daughter Kate from her first marriage before Clay and is there in the 1930 and 1940 at age 73.

Elmer is listed as 34 IL.  Also in the household is Myrtle Hawkins, 38 IL. He is a son of George Washington Putman and Amanda Thomas of Brown County Illinois. He will marry Mayme Sprague in another year and be here with her in 1930. They are here forever. He will die here April 11, 1965.

The daughter of Edward Beecher Putnam from here, Grace is listed as 32 IL, a roomer with C. T. (Dick) Branson. Her dad died here in 1908 and her mother Sarah Beeching died in 1912.

Harrison Leroy is listed as 32 IL.  His wife, Elsie Sarah Henry, is 27 IL.  Their son, Ray V. (Vincent), is 5 IL.. Harrison Leroy Putnam is a son of George Vincent Putnam and Susan Louise He was born April 13, 1887 in Springfield, Sangamon County and will die April 12, 1960 in Dubuque, Iowa. He married Elsie Sarah Henry October 18, 1910. They were divorced about 1921. He then married Rose Kline out here in 1922. They are in Dubuque in 1930 and 1940. They will be getting a divorce soon. They have another son, Robert Leroy, who is listed along with Ray with her parents in Piatt County at this time. Harrison had married Elsie about 1910 and will marry Rose Kline in 1922. They will be in Dubuque Iowa by 1930.

CHARLIE PUTMAN  Elmira, Scott County

The son of Henry Francis Putman and Virginia Shackleford of Brown County Illinois. He was single here in 1910. Charles Calvin is listed as 38 IL.  His wife, Margaret Gordon, is 27 IL.  Their son, Charles Calvin, Jr., is 1 year and 2 months old, IL. He was born March 22, 1886 and will die here March 11, 1929. I don’t find Margaret in 1930 though. By 1935 she and the kids are living with her parents here in Stark County.

 

RAY PUTMAN  Elmira, Stark County

The son of Charles Francis Putman from here, Ray is listed as 27 IL.  His wife, Alma Ethel Boyd, is 24 OH.  The children are: Charles Curtis 4 years and 11 months IL, Willard Cecil 3 years and 11 months, Wayne Mitchell 2 years and 6 months, and Oliver Laurence 2 months. They are in Henry County in 1930. This is the family of Warren Putman who did all the great work on the Dutch Putman family. Warren will be born in Henry County April 30, 1929 and be shown there in 1930. Ray was born August 12, 1892 and will die January 3, 1970. Alma was born August 23, 1895 and will die here March 5, 1983

Ernest Wentworth is listed as 45 IL.  His wife, Cora Wilson, is 48 IL. The children at home are: Hazel Ernestine 25 IL, June Elizabeth 17 IL, Forest Lee 14 IL, and Dale Wilson 12 IL. He was born October 5, 1875 and will die March 8, 1961. He married Cora Elizabeth Wilson on June 26, 1894. Cora was born June 15, 1872 and will die January 3, 1968. He was raised by Joseph Putman and Elizabeth Slusser from here, but is actually an out of wedlock son of their oldest daughter Mary Ellen Putman.

Edmond is the son of Orrin Putnam and Sophia Huntington from New York. He was born April 5, 1841 and just died here in Chicago July 17, 1929. Ardella will be widowed in Chicago in 1930.

The son of William H. Putnam and Miriam King from here, Frank Alfred Putnam, is listed as 39 IL.  His wife, Bessie (Elizabeth Keen), is 32 IL.  The children at home are: Leo 15 IL, Beulah 14 IL, Gladis 12 IL, George 10 IL, Eber 6 IL, and Mary Elma, 6 months IL. Frank was born in Wabash County October 3, 1880 and married Bessie there on March 29, 1903. She is a daughter of Ancil Marion Keen and Alma Jackson and was born January 10, 1887 and will die here in Bridgeport in April 1974. Frank will die here January 11, 1949.

The son of Chesterfield F., Edgar Newton is listed as 62 IL.  His wife, Rosa C., (Rosie Catherine Dyer), is 52 IL.  Their daughter, Helen, is 17, but her place of birth is marked as unknown, and it was like that in 1910. Helen was adopted, and they just don’t know I guess, although by 1930 it is IN IN IN. Rosie will die here in 1924, and Edgar is widowed here in 1930. He will die here in 1931

 

KARL F. PUTMAN  Mt. Carmel, Wabash County

The son of Samuel R., Karl F. is listed as 40 IL.  His wife Fannie J. Johnson is 35 IL. Their daughter, Ann E., is 10 IL.  Also in the household is his father-in-law, Jacob F. Johnson. They are here in 1930 and 1940.

 

MICHAEL PUTMAN  Mt. Carmel, Wabash County

Michael is listed as 49 KY.  His wife, Emma Smith, is 49 IN. Also in the household is his brother-in-law, William Smith, 64 IN. They were here in 1910 and in Gibson County Indiana in 1900 and will be back there in 1930. Rand found a death certificate that he was born in Spencer County Indiana, which would make him a son of John Putman and Lavinia Jane North or Morris Putman and Nancy Jane Hunter both from Kentucky where I guess he was born. Working on it. Find a grave has him being born in 1871 and died in Mount Carmel, Wabash County in 1938 and buried there.

He is a son of Alfred George Putnam and Leonora Angeline ‘Nora’ Sharer from here. His widowed mom is listed next and his brother Forest listed just above.

He was born in Tama County Iowa and was with the family in Buena Vista County in 1900 and Black Hawk County in 1910. Thaddeus was a son of James Putman from Canada and Lydia Wheeler. He was born in Brown County Wisconsin and was home with the folks in 1880. Pearl is listed as 18 IL. Her daughter, Luella M., is 1 year and 6 months IL. She is Pearl Krischke, wife of Loren Benjamin Putman, the son of George Washington Putman and Leora DeLine from Harvard, McHenry County. Loren was born while the family was in Walworth County Wisconsin. They split as he is at home now and will marry Elizabeth Tredup and still be in Harvard, McHenry County in 1930 and 1940.

Roy C. is listed as 30 NE.  His wife Hermina Wilhelmine Johanna Dammann is 32 IA.  The children are: Marian 10 IA, Mildred 8 IA, Ruth 7 IA, and Grace 4 years and 10 months, IA.  Also, his sister, Ethel M. Putman, 22 IA is with them. He is a son of Homer and Katy Putman and was in Muscatine, Iowa in 1910. They are here in 1930.

The son of Charles and Adelia Putnam from Rock County Wisconsin. Burleigh is listed as 56 NY.  His wife Harriet Ellen Lyon is 49 IL. They have been here since the 1880s. Harriet is a second wife, new since 1910. He had been married to Nellie Eddy since 1886 through the 1910 here. He and Harriet are still here in 1930.

 

CATHERINE PUTNAM  Rockford, Winnebago County

Catherine is listed as 72 IL.  Her daughter, Hazel, is 37 MI. Hazel was shown in 1900 as a niece of Catherine Enoch here. She is Catherine Jane Enoch, widow of Dyer Conger Putnam from Douglas, Allegan County Michigan. He died there of pneumonia on November 9, 1894. Catherine will die here April 11, 1920, but be buried back up in Douglas.

 

DYER PUTNAM  Rockford, Winnebago County

Dyer is listed as 41 MI.  His wife Ruby Wise is 41 IL.  The children at home are: Dyer 14 IL, Mary 10 IL, Elizabeth 8 IL, and Catherine 7 IL. He is a son of Dyer Conger and Catherine Jane Enoch. He was born in 1878 in Douglas, Allegan County Michigan. He is shown at home there in the 1880 census. Family is from Oswego County New York and Preston, Connecticut before that. They are here in 1930.
