KANSAS 1950 CENSUS

 

 

JOSEPHINE PUTMAN  Atchison, Atchison County

She is 74 KS and widowed. Josephine Hartman was married to John Putman from Canada here in 1910 and 1920. She was widowed here in 1930 and 1940. John was a son of George Young Putman and Elizabeth Ann Dunn from St. Catherine’s, Lincoln County Ontario. They were all there in the 1881 Canadian Census. The family must have come down in the later 1880s or 1890s as Elizabeth was widowed here in the State 1895 census. Dutch family from New York before moving to Canada. Josie will die here November 21, 1967.

 

BEULAH L. (LAVON) PUTNAM  Fort Scott, Bourbon County

She is 33 KS, single and living with her stepfather Oscar Leroy Taylor and her real mom Pearl Jane Taylor. There are 3 other Taylor kids here as there were in 1940. Deloris 19 KS, Alberta 17 KS and Roberta 17 KS. Okay. Pearl Givins was married to Boyd Alton Putnam here in 1910 and they got divorced. She was here with Beulah in 1920 and then married Oscar about 1930-1931. Beulah was born September 25, 1916 and will die here in Fort Scott June 9, 2002. Boyd was a son of Jacob Putnam and Celestine Lawton out of Jefferson County Tennessee. His widowed mom is listed right below. Southern Putmans.

 

CELESTINE PUTNAM  Fort Scott, Bourbon County

She is now 91 IL and widowed. Her widowed daughter Gladys Staufer 42 KS and her two kids and her married daughter Sarah Grace Gunesullus 55 KS and husband Frank Gunesullus 55 KS are living with her. Gladys had been married here to Wesley Staufer here in 1920. Celestine Almira Lawton had been married to Jacob Stanley Putnam since they were married in 1877. They were all here in 1930 and then Jake died February 25, 1933 and Celestine will die here at age 97 on March 26, 1956. The family came out of Jefferson County Tennessee. Southern Putmans

 

FRANCIS PUTNAM  Fort Scott, Bourbon County

He is 34 KS and his wife Avalene Naomi Burt is 36 KS. He is a truck driver for Richards Wine Company. Francis Elwood Putnam is a son of Boyd Alton Putnam and Pearl Givins from here. He was born May 14, 1915 and with his mother here in 1920 and she was divorced at the time. He married Avalene in Vernon County Missouri on September 5, 1936. She was born here in Bourbon County May 25, 1913 and will die in Kansas City Missouri December 24, 2006. Apparently, she was helping Santa Claus come ‘down the chimney with care’ when he slipped and fell on top of her and squished her. Francis will die here in Fort Scott February 8, 1985. His dad is a son of Jacob Putnam and Celestine Lawton from Vernon County Missouri and Jefferson County Tennessee before that. Celestine is widowed here in Fort Scott now. Francis was a Staff Sergeant in WWII and is buried in the National Cemetery here. Southern Putman folks.

 

JOHN A. (ANDREW) PUTNAM (JR.)  Horton, Brown County

He is 39 VA and is a high school teacher. His wife Wilma Jean Sutton is 26 AR and they have Karen S. KS 5 and Eddie A. 3 KS. He is a son of John Andrew Putnam and Faye Violet McDonald. He was born March 26, 1911 while his dad was in the Army in Chesapeake, Virginia. Don’t find in 1920, but the family is all here in Eureka, Greenwood County Kansas in 1925 and 1930. John Junior is married to Katherine Badger in Matfield Green, Chase County in 1940. They were married here August 26, 1933 then split. He and Wilma were married in 1942. Wilma was born in Nashville, Arkansas November4, 1923 and she will die in Plainville, Kansas August 28, 2016. John will die in Sedan, Kansas March 5, 2004. They are all buried back in Greenwood County.

 

ARTHUR P. (PAUL) PUTNAM  Augusta, Butler County

He is 28 MO and married to Judy Snow 23 OK. He is a son of Arthur Melvin Putnam and Lora Viola Nichols from Shoal Creek, Newton County. His dad is a son of John Doyle Putnam and Alice Caldwell and was born when they were briefly in Ardmore, Oklahoma on August 5, 1894. Arthur was in Joplin, Jasper County Missouri in 1940.

 

SAMUEL A. (AMBLER) PUTNAM  Chelsea, Butler County

He is 68 NY NY NY. Nellie Genevieve Reed his wife is 68 OH. He owns his farm. They were married October 28, 1903 They never had any kids. It would be all part of his dad John Putnam’s original farm here. He was born May 1, 1882 and will die here October 24, 1962. Nellie is the daughter of Silas M. Reed and Hannah McElhinny and was born in Middleport Ohio September 23, 1881. She will die right here July 31, 1978. Wow, that’s 97 years old. He is a son of John Russell Putnam and Genelia Lord of Madison County New York. They were here in Butler County in the 1890s on. New England family.

 

D. H. (DARWIN HAZZARD) PUTNAM  El Dorado, Butler County

He is 62 KS NY NY and owns his farm. Margaret S. Becker his wife is 65 PA. They have been married for 25 years. He was single here in 1920 and just married in 1925 and they were here in 1930. His dad John Russell Putman was married to Genella Lord here in 1900 and they were in Cleburne County Arkansas in 1920. John was a son of Samuel Putnam (Eben’s #2347) and Eliza Ann Hazard of Madison, Madison County New York. John was born September 20, 1847 and died here June 8, 1938 at age 90. Darwin was born June 8, 1887 here in Butler County and he will die in El Dorado, Kansas in January 1973. Margaret was born in 1884 and will die in 1969, New Englanders.

 

DELMAR PUTNAM  Clay Center, Clay County

He is 70 KS IN OH and still is a piano tuner. Nellie Louise Luther his wife is 61 KS. He is a son of Charles Putnam and Sarah Lancaster. He was born in Clay County September 6, 1879 and was here with the family of course in 1880, and 1910 and in Douglas County in 1900. They were right here though in 1920 and on. He will die here in Clay Center February 20, 1971. New England family. Charles’ dad was Newton Putnam out of Danvers, Massachusetts then Cavendish, Vermont before coming out to the Mid-West. Nellie is a daughter of Aaron and Aria Luther and was born March 9, 1889 and will die here June  5, 1965.

 

JEANIE M. PUTNAM  Baxter Springs, Cherokee County

She is 3 MO and a granddaughter of Jess Neely 38 and Mary Lucille Neely  35 and born in the USA like everyone on the page. Like the Connie listed below, no clues were given or found.

 

LEOTA PUTMAN  Baxter Springs, Cherokee County

She is 43 MO and a waitress in a café. She is separated and has her daughter Barbara Ann 17 KS with her. Leota Mae Devaney married Joseph Kyle Putman in 1923 in Bryan, Oklahoma. They were here in 1930 and 1940. They will get divorced soon. She was born. October 17, 1904 in Missouri and will die here in Baxter Springs January 29, 1999. Joe is a son of John Morgan Putman and Era Pearl Tow out of Milam County Texas where he was born April 23, 1899. He was with his folks in Imperial County California in 1920. He was here in 1930 and 1940. He will be out in Los Angeles California when he dies July 11, 1967. His dad John Morgan Putman was a son of John Thomas Putman and Martha Jane Stafford out of Blount County Alabama and Rutherford County North Carolina before that. Southern Putman Family. The daughter Barbara Ann was born March 11, 1933 here in Baxter Springs. She will marry James William Wilson and die September 17, 2010 in Miami, Ottawa County Oklahoma.

 

SIMARY W. (WINFIELD) PUTNAM  Leroy, Coffey County

He is 64 MI and his most recent wife Rebecca is 43 MO and they have Linda Jean 6 MO. Simary Winfield Putnam is a son of George Putnam and Harriet ‘Hattie’ Phillips from Jackson County Michigan. He was with his widowed mother in Benton County Arkansas in 1900. He first married Dolly Brown in Missouri June 11, 1904. Something happed as he married Emogene Broyles May 11, 1914 in Kansas City, Missouri. Simary Winfield Putnam was born May 2, 1886 and will die July 2, 1957 in Nevada, Vernon County Missouri. At that time, he was married to Rebecca and they were living in Kansas City, Missouri. Can’t find him so far in 1910, 1920 or 1940 censuses. In 1910 however he is listed in the Kansas City Directory as a carpenter. He registered for the draft in WWII in 1942 and was also living then in Kansas City Missouri. So that kinda takes care of 1910 and 1940 so in 1920 he was someplace in the mid-west. He has a produce store in Leroy now in 1950.

 

GEORGE W. (WELLING) PUTNAM  Arkansas City, Cowley County

He is 50 KS. His new wife Olga is 43 KS. He is still a mail carrier as he was in 1920 through 1940 in Ford County with his first wife Margaret Jarvis. Margaret is still there and divorced by herself. He is a son of Israel P. Putnam and Anna Belle Doty and as born in Layton, Rooks County December 24, 1899. He is married to an Olga Minerva in Arkansas City, Crowley County in 1950 and Margaret is divorced there  still in Dodge City by herself in 1950. George Junior is married there then. George Senior may later on marry Fay (Stull) Asbury who is buried in the same cemetery as he is. George was born December 24, 1899 and will die in Osborne County Kansas October 2, 1991. He was in the Service in WWII, but I don’t have dates or full info.

 

A. W. (ARTHUR WILLARD PUTNAM  Winfield, Cowley County

He has been here since before the 1920. He is now 71 MO MN IN and a building painter. Probably work for his brother Fred who owns a paint shop here. Bertha Clare Captolia Tharp his wife has just died. They were married here March 6, 1901. Arthur was born in Mercer County Missouri February 20, 1879 and he will die here in Winfield May 30, 1973. Bertha was born here in Atlanta, Cowley County March 20, 1883 and died here in Winfield June 16, 1949. Arthur is a son of David Thomas Putnam and Sarah Margaret Hensley and grandson of Ansel Delos Putnam from Mercer County Missouri. New Englanders.

 

EDNA PUTMAN  Winfield, Cowley County

She is 64 KS and now widowed. Edna Blanche Gatton has been married to Alphious or Alpheus Orville Putman here since they were married up until he died here February 18, 1943. He was a son of William P. Putman and Amanda Louise Davis from Norton County Kansas. He was born there June 11, 1887. Edna is a daughter of Isaac and Arzella Gatton. She was born April 18, 1886 and will die here February 28, 1980.

 

SAM PUTMAN  Elwood Township, Doniphan County

He is a Negro 53 MO and his wife Mildred Jones is 44 MO. He is a son of Henry and Cubina Putman from Clay, Greene County Missouri. They were here in 1940 and in Buchanan County Missouri in 1930 and earlier.

 

NOAH F. (FLETCHER) PUTMAN  Eudora, Douglas County

He is 27 AR and his wife Evelyn Josephine Taylor is 24 KS and they have Lester Allen 3 KS. He is a son of Charles Putman and Nellie St. John from Hampton, Lee County Arkansas. He was born November 26, 1922 in Lee County and will die back in Carroll County Arkansas May 20, 2008. Evelyn was born March 6, 1924 and will die October 26, 1969.

 

CONNIE R. PUTNAM  Lawrence, Douglas County

She is 3 born in the USA. She lives with her re-married mother Nina Melissa Christy 42 KS, who has married Floyd Blair here. No ideas on her dad. He may have been killed in WWII or just snuck out one night.

 

SIDNEY L. (LEROY) PUTMAN  Belpre, Edwards County

He is 63 KS PA PA and manages a garage. Stella Scott his wife is 58 KS. Still here as he was in 1940, is his brother Ralph Putman 60 KS who is divorced. They are sons of Fred Daniel Putnam and Lydia Brown from Lyon County. Fred was a son of Sidney and Lucy Putnam from Lyon County. They were there in 1920. Sidney was born September 17, 1886 and will die right here February 4, 1978. Ralph was born June 26, 1889 and will die here in Belpre Kansas in April 1979. Stella was born February 12, 1892 and will die here in May 1977.

 

HERSCHEL E. PUTMAN  Garden City, Finney County

He is 21 KS and his wife Melva Lula Day is 21 KS. He is a son of Alphaeus Orville Putman and Edna Blanche Gatton from Burden, Cowley County. He was born there July 18, 1929 and will die in Wichita, Sedgewick County June 21, 2018. He married Melva April 3, 1949. She is a daughter of James Samuel Day and Gladys C. Eudaly and was born in Winfield, Cowley County January 8, 1929. She will pack it in in Wichita August 15, 2021. They will have 3 daughters. Can’t get names as they are still alive, and run around naked in parking lots, and certainly do not want their names out in the public any more than they have to.

 

NINA PUTNAM  Garden City, Finney County

Nina J. Cauvel is 69 PA and widowed. She was the third wife of William Ray Putnam who died here in 1938. He was a son of William Putnam and Ida Kenyon from Barton County. William was born March 2, 1885 and died here March 4, 1938. Nina was born November 22, 1880 and will die here in Garden City in July 1967. This Putnam family was originally out of New Hampshire and then to Illinois and here.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM JR.  Dodge City, Ford County

He is 26 KS and his wife Thelma Ruth Whitchurch is 25 KS and they have a son Chris 2 KS. George is a son of George Welling Putnam and Margaret Jarvis from here. His folks divorced and his mom is listed just below. He was born July 16, 1932 and will die in Wichita, Kansas April 21, 2000.Thelma was born May 14, 1924 and will die in Pottsboro, Texas December 4, 2011. The son Chris Allen Putnam was born here June 18, 1948. He will marry Karen Dold July 20 1974 in Colwich, Kansas.

 

MARGARET PUTNAM  Dodge City, Ford County

She is 50 OR and now divorced. Margaret E. Jarvis had been married to George Putnam here since they were married in 1920. He may later on marry Fay (Stull) Asbury who is buried in the same cemetery as he is. Margaret was born March 2, 1920 and will die here in Dodge City April 15, 1968. Her married son George Junior is listed above.

 

MARY PUTMAN/LINDSAY  Quinter, Gove County

She is 24 KS and a step daughter of George Lindsay 63 KS and her mom Eva/Evaline Bennett. She was listed as Mary Lindsay in 1930 and 1940 so this is first time that I see she is a Putman. Eva was married to George Lindsay in 1920 in Center, Russell County. Mary was born in 1925 so she would really be a Lindsay. She has 2 Putman kids, Kay 4 KS and Billy a son 3 KS. She lists herself as being married. So…No ideas there. Ancestry has her born November 13, 1924 and dying with the name Mary Ellen Wolford February 16, 2018. At some stage she will marry Russell Eugene Wolford.

 

FAYE PUTNAM  Eureka City, Greenwood County

Faye Violet Karam Putnam is 54 KS and says she is separated but is divorced as she was in 1940 here. She still has Donna Marie 15 KS at home. She is a laundress working out of her house. She had been married to John Andrew Putnam in Virginia in 1910 when he was in the service there and in 1920, 1925 and 1930 here. John was married to Regina Griffiths about his age out in Los Angeles. She is from Kansas too and they were out there married in 1935 and 1940. Guess they met here and took off to the Golden State. 1935 was the height (or really bottom) of the Depression. Remember Woody Guthrie’s song, “California is a garden of Eden. A Paradise to live in or see, but believe it or not, you won’t find it so hot if you ain’t got the dough ray me.” John is now in the Kansas State Mental Institution . Faye was born April 5, 1895 and will die in Wichita November 23, 1981. New England family Massachusetts to Ohio to here.

 

JACK C. (CLAYMORE) PUTNAM  Newton, Harvey County

He is 31 KS and his wife Helen Louise Long is 27 Ks. And they have Helen Janine 4 KS and Joyce L. born in January 1950. Jack is a son of Otto Claymore Putnam and Eva Marie Cannon listed below. He was at home with them here in 1940. He was born April 2, 1919 and will die December 24, 2004. Too bad he missed Santa and the reindeers. Helen is a daughter of Louis E. Long and Bessie V. Unruh and was born here in Newton September 15, 1922 and will die right here August 2, 1986.

 

OTTO C. (CLAYMORE) PUTNAM  Newton, Harvey County

He is 63 AR IL IA and works at a service station. Eva Mae Cannon his wife is 60 IA and they have Florence 41 IA, Ruth 37 MO and Betty Jean 23 KS. Their son Jack is married now and listed right above. He is a son of Charles Henry Putnam and Hannah Lodema Norman. He was born in Benton County Arkansas September 10, 1886, and was with his folks in Chautauqua County Kansas in 1900. They were just married in Adair County Iowa in 1910, and in Marion County Kansas in 1920. He will be in Newton and till he dies March 13, 1959. Eva will die here June 11, 1968. Ruth will marry a guy named Irion. She was born January 1, 1913 and will die in Florida August 27, 1980. Betty Jean was born May 30, 1926 and will marry Harold Adler and die here in Newton March 26, 1015. Florence Ilene was born June 10, 1909 and died September 4, 1990. She never married.

 

CHARLES W. (WILLIAM) PUTMAN  Banner Township, Jackson County

He is 52 KS and married to a Eulah 48 MO and 3 kids of hers. In 1940 he was here with his folks Fred L. Putman and Lucy C. Little and was alone, but said married. Can’t find in 1930 but in 1920 he was married to a gal named Mary from Kansas. In other listings the 3 girls have the last name of Pittman. Beats Me.

 

LUCY C. PUTMAN  Holton, Jackson County

She is 76 KS and now widowed. She is living with a cousin Dora Lewelling 74 KS. Lucy C. Little had been married to Fred L. Putman in Banner, Jackson County since the 1890s till he died in 1947. Lucy is a daughter of James W. Little and Sarah Elizabeth Shields. She was born here June 26, 1873 and will die here later in 1950.

 

GLENN R. (RICHARD) PUTMAN  Olathe, Johnson County

He is 33 WA and married. He is in the Navy out here in the middle of the Country. There is apparently a Naval Base there as there are several guys listed as working there. Anyway, he is a son of Otho Homer Putnam and Jessie Benton Creek in Seattle, Washington. He was born there April 24, 1916 and will die in Mt. Vernon, Washington March 16, 2001. He was in the Navy from October 6, 1942 till January 1, 1947 when he renewed and got discharged November 30, 1953. He married Mary Ann Ashland in Seattle January 22, 1949. Guess she is back there now.

 

W. K. (WILLIAM KITCHNER) PUTNAM  Lakin, Kearney County

He is 67 NY and widowed. He is living now with his also widowed daughter Cassie Jones 38 KS. Will is an adopted son of Leman C. and Ella Putnam and was at home in 1900 with them in McDonald County Missouri. William was orphaned age 4. Kirchner was his mother's maiden name. He was born in New York City. Leman was a son of Pliney Putnam and Mary Spofford from Springfield, Vermont, and Leman was born in Dodge County Wisconsin. He had been married to Minnie Lee Crawford for a while. They got divorced in the 1930s. Will and Cassie will be lodging in Hutchinson City in Reno County Kansas in 1935 and 1940. Minnie will be married to Franklin Myers and in Garden City, Finney County in 1940. I found a sheet that has Cassie being married 4 times and not to a Jones , so she’ll marry 5 times. They both say here they are widowed, but they are divorced and embarrassed about it.

 

LEROY PUTNAM  Kickapoo, Leavenworth County

He is 26 GA and an inmate in the famous or notorious United States Federal Leavenworth Prison. He is a Negro/Black inmate. He was living in Detroit, Michigan when captured and will die there June 12, 1997 so he wasn’t in for life or execution.

 

JAMES PUTNAM  Emporia, Lyon County

He is 36 KS single and lodging. He is a lawyer with his own private practice. James Wesley Putnam is a son of Harry Wells Putnam and Clara Louise Gibson and was born in Topeka. His folks were divorced in about 1925 and he was in Topeka with his mom and brothers and sister there in 1930 and lodging here in 1940. He was born August 4, 1914 and will die in Emporia December 3, 1907. His grave marker says that he was a Major in the Armed Services. Also said his wife was named Wanda.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Emporia, Lyon County

He is 50 KS single and boarding. Can’t find him or any John the right age anytime or anywhere.

 

PERRY L. (LELAND) PUTNAM  Ivy, Lyon County

He is a son of Theodore Valentine Putnam and Nettie Rabourn from here. He is now 54 KS. His wife Hulda Loretta Schultz is 50 KS. He is a rural mail carrier. Perry was born February 2, 1896 and will die September 10, 1995 in Topeka. He married Loretta here March 25, 1920. She was born July 25, 1898 and will die August 19, 1990. Both well into their 90s. New England family from Vermont.

 

RAY T. (THEODORE RABOURN) PUTNAM  Ivy, Lyon County

He is 44 KS KS MO and a tenant farmer. Pearl Anna Snyder his wife is 43 KS. He is a son of Theodore Valentine Putman and Nettie Jane Rabourn from here. His dad died here in 1936 and his widowed mother died here November 28, 1947. He was born March 15, 1906 and will die here February 24, 1970. He married Pearl on March 15, 1926. She was born August 13, 1906 and will die in Hoyt, Jackson County Kansas December 2, 1992.

 

ANNA PUTNAM  Pike Township, Lyon County

She is 83 VA and widowed. Anna Marie Walkup was married to Curtis Palmer Putnam here for years. He died here November 25, 1939. Curtis was a son of Henry Clay Putnam (Eben #3205) and Elizabeth Ward Palmer from Washington County Ohio where he was born October 15, 1862. The family came out here to Chase County Kansas in the 1870s. He and a couple of brothers stayed here in Kansas when his folks moved out to Washington State in the late 1880s. Anna was born in Virginia August 8, 1867 and will die here in Kansas February 17, 1955. New England family from Massachusetts.

 

CYLDE A. (ALLEN) PUTNAM  Osawatomie, Miami County

He is 25 KS and his wife Barbara Frances Walter is 23 NY. They were married here September 15, 1946. He is Clyde Allen Putnam Jr. son of Clyde Allen Putnam and this Vera Jane. He pops up in the Kansas 1925 State census at age 11/12 with his folks. In 1930 they were in Houston, Texas and then Clyde Senior split or something as his wife Vera married Moses Wright  in the early to mid 1930s, as they were married here in the same house in 1935 that they were in in 1940. Clyde Senior is married to an Ellen C. in Norfolk, Virginia when he registered for the draft in 1942. In 1942 he was working for Dry Dock Associates in the Portsmouth Naval Yard. Clyde Allen Senior is a son of Edwin Josiah Putnam and his third wife Susan Brown Jacobs from Calcasieu Parish Louisiana. He was born in Jennings, Louisiana December 19, 1892. He was home there in 1910 and obviously in Kansas in 1920 but not listed in the index. His dad was a son of Harvey Putnam and Rebecca Stewart from Vermont originally. New England family. This young Clyde was in the NAVY in WWII from May 24, 1943 till February 23, 1946. He was born May 7, 1924 and will die October 31, 1993.

 

A. G. (ARTHUR GILES) PUTMAN JR.  Beloit, Mitchell County

He is 37 OK a works in a drug store. His wife Frances Ruth Fittell is 35 KS and they have George Robert 9 OK and Frank 3 KS. He is a son of Arthur Giles Putman and Katherine Latisha Berg and was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma January 10, 1913 and has been there with his widowed mother in 1930 and 1940. His dad died there in 1927. Arthur was a son of Henry Putman and Leuticisha Dennis from Clark County Ohio and came here in 1899. He was born October 3, 1880 and died here February 8, 1927. Katherine was born in Leavenworth, Kansas April 9, 1885 and will die here in Oklahoma City March 22, 1964. Arthur Giles Junior was born January 10, 1913 and will die in Beloit Mitchell County July 11, 2007. Frances was born January 15, 1915 and will die June 13, 1974. They were married January 3, 1940 in Oklahoma. Southern Putman family out of Kentucky.

 

HARVEY E. (ELBRIDGE) PUTNAM  Grandview Township, Morris County

He is 75 IL KY NY and owns his farm. He is widowed as Sarah Jane Tyler his wife has died here September 24, 1948. His sons, John Tyler 42 KS and Calvin Dale 34 KS are still with him. He is a son of John Elbridge Putnam and Lucy Cornwell and was born in Essex, Kankakee County Illinois February 14, 1875 and will die August 3, 1959. Sarah Jane was born in December 1880 and died here  September 24, 1948. They have been here since the early 1900s. He will die here August 3, 1959. John was born March 20, 1908, and will die in Lawrence, Kansas on July 30, 1994. The son Calvin was born February 26, 1916 and will die in Tyler County Texas July 15, 2002.

 

JOHN A. (ANDREW) PUTNAM  Osawatomie, Miami County

He is 68 MO and married. He is a patient in the Kansas State Mental Institution as he has been since the late 1930s. He is a son of Henry Clay and Mary Elizabeth Putnam from Licking County Ohio and then out here in Clay County by the 1860s. He was in Chase County with his mother in 1900 and I think in Chesapeake, Virginia in the Army there in 1910. Don’t find him in 1920, but he and his wife Faye Violet Kramm were in Eureka, Greenwood County in 1925, 1930 and 1935. She is there now and was in 1940.

 

ALBERT C. (CLIFFORD) PUTMAN  Sand Creek, Norton County

He is 57 KS IA IN and owns his farm. Eva Christina Howell his wife is 51 KS. Kids all gone now. He is a son of William P. Putman and Amanda Louise Davis from here. He was born here June 29, 1892 and will die in Norton, Norton County July 24, 1975. Eva was born in Edmond, Norton County December 10, 1898. She will die in Norton, Norton County May 28, 1987. His folks were with him in 1920, and his widowed mother was here in Norton in 1930. William died February 28, 1927, and she died January 20, 1934. His dad William was a son of Jacob Pieterse Putman and Theodosia Young. This is a part of the New York Dutch line, but I just can’t figure Jacob’s folks yet.

 

JOHN F. (FRANK) PUTNAM  Hutchinson City, Reno County

He is 20 AR and married to Patricia L. 20 KS. He is a garbage collector. He lists himself as white and she as a mulatto. He is a son of Frank Russell Putnam and Lila Johnston from Little River County Arkansas. He was with them there in 1930 and with his deserted mother Lila there in 1940. The came out here. His mom is listed below. She might well be widowed as there is a rumor that she went over to Jefferson County Arkansas and found Frank and shot him between the eyes and then snuck back out here. Never sure about those things though.

 

PATSY PUTMAN  Hutchinson City, Reno County

She is 4 KS and lives with her mother Helen 26 TX and stepfather Earl Johnston 24 OK. No ideas yet on what Putman or Putnam Helen married.

 

S. (SALLIE) LILA PUTNAM  Hutchinson City, Reno County

She is 60 TX and says widowed and is a maid with the Colglacier family. Sallie Lila Johnston was married to Frank Russell Putnam in Little River County Arkansas in 1930, and he was remarried to Cordellia McNeil in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County in 1940 when she cried and said that she was widowed. It was more convenient to tell people she is widowed rather than to say her hubby took off, found another gal and settled in the other side of the State. She is here now and of course widowed. Her son John Frank Putnam is here in town and married. He is listed right above.

 

DELMAR G. PUTMAN  Fort Riley Military Reservation, Riley County

He is 17 born somewhere in the Universe. Found a Delmar Glenn Putman born in Michigan in 1932 and dat’s the guy! He is a son of Hobart John Putnam and Annalee Marian Brown. He was at home with his folks in Wells Township, Tuscola County Michigan in 1940 at age 7 MI. His great grandad was born in Canada. This is a Dutch family that went from New York up into Canada and then back here in the 1860s. This is the line of Mark Putnam of Caro, Tuscola County who has done a great deal of work on this New York Dutch line. Hobart Putnam’s other son, Peter Walton Putnam, is Mark’s dad.

 

DON M. (MERLE) PUTNAM  Manhattan, Riley County

He is 28 NE and his wife Freida is 22 . She was born December 8, 1927 and will die December 15, 2007 after too much celebrating of her 80th birthday, Don is a son of Charles Aaron Putnam and Sarah Columbus Bragg. He was born in Sheridan County Nebraska March 17, 1922 and he will die June 19, 2017 in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County California. He was with his folks in 1930 in Findley, Douglas County Missouri. His folks got divorced and he is a truck driver out in Pajero, Monterey County California in 1940 with cousins John and Henrietta Quinn.

 

ETHEL PUTNAM  Stockton, Rooks County

She is 74 KS and widowed. She is lodging with Olive Young 76 IA. Ethel Johnson married Jacob Putman October 17, 1929 and with him in Kuna, Ada County Idaho in 1930. He died in the 1930s and she was  widowed here in 1940. Jacob was a son of Jacob Putman and Susan Linniger, and was at home in 1860 and 1870 in Fulton County Indiana, and in Sheridan County Kansas in 1905 and in Reno County Kansas in 1910 then in Chautauqua County New York in 1920. Ethel was born August 24, 1876 and will die in Phillipsburg, Phillips County January 31, 1959. German family out of Pennsylvania.

 

SADIE PUTNAM  Stockton, Rooks County

She is 67 KS and now widowed. Sadie Elizabeth Byerly was married to William Clewley Putnam here in 1930 and 1940 and in Osborne County in 1920. William was  born  April 5, 1889 in Natoma, and died July 17, 1942 in Stockton. Sadie’s birth date was November 1, 1882 and she will die in Plainville, Kansas in October 1867. Their son Raymond was with them here in 1940 and is now married in Topeka, Shawnee County.

 

DWIGHT K. (KIMBALL) PUTNAM  Salina, Saline County

He is 41 KS and his wife Martha Jane Eberhardt 40 KS and they have Anna Christine 1 KS. He is a son of John Ernest Putnam and Emily Margaret Belleview from here. Dwight was born April 4, 1908 and will die in Santa Fe, New Mexico February 20, 1997, but will be buried here in Salina. Martha was born August 29, 1907 and will die here in Salina October 6, 1999. They were married June 14, 1936 and living at his dad’s home here in 1940. His mom died December 8, 1929 and his dad died August 10, 1947.

 

HELEN F. (FEW) PUTNAM  Salina, Saline County

She is 74 KS and now widowed. Helen Josephine Few Mullen was married to Edward Rawson Putnam here since 1919. He was a son of Harrison Kimball Putnam and Henrietta Crippen. Edward was born November 23, 1874 when the family returned briefly to Worcester, Massachusetts prior to heading out here to Kansas in 1878. They were here from 1915 on. They were married November 23, 1899 in Salina. He died here October 17, 1944. Helen was born here in Brookville, Saline County June 28, 1874 and will die here in Salina November 30, 1955.

 

THOMAS H. (HARRISON) PUTNAM  Salina, Saline County

He is 45 KS and his new wife Maxine Elliot is 38 KS. Her married sister Orpha 34 KS and her husband Emmet Molander is 40 KS. Harry, as he goes by, is a son of Edward Rawson Putnam and Helen Josephine Few. Harry was born in Terra Cotta, Kansas December 28, 1904 and will die here in Salina November 7, 1971. He was married earlier to Sylvia Barker in 1930. She died or they divorced and in 1940 he was in Pomona, California married to a gal named Doris born in Washington State. That didn’t work and he is back here now, and married again. He was born December 28, 1904 and will die right here November 7, 1971. Harry served in the Army in WWII from July 27, 1942 till July 4, 1944. Maxine was bon February 27, 1912 and will die December 28, 1989.

 

JESSIE JAMES PUTMAN  Riverside, Sedgewick County

He is 65 KS IN TN and now a stock clerk in an Aircraft something or other. Nellie M. Howk his wife is 57 MO. He has been in Arkansas City with his mother Mary since the late 1800s, and was married in Bolton, Cowley County in 1925, 1930 and 1940. He is a son of William Boyd Putnam and Mary Elizabeth Smith. He was born September 20, 1883 and will die in Arkansas City, Cowley County September 5, 1969. His dad William was a son of James Daniel Putman and Diadema Smith from Fulton County Illinois. Southern Putmans.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Wichita, Sedgewick County

He is 28 KS and his wife Mary Jane Graves is 28 KS also. They have George D. 4 KS. He is George D. Junior and is a son of George D. Putman and Delia Mae Saville from here in Wichita.

 

JOY LAVERNE PUTNAM  Wichita, Sedgewick County

She is 23 MO single and lodging. She is an usher in a theater. Leroy Laverne Putnam is a son of Laverne Putnam and Leota Olga Jennings from here in Wichita. She was born June 22, 1924 in Kansas City Missouri and will die in 1973 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

 

LEROY D. (DANIEL) PUTNAM  Wichita, Sedgewick County

He is 47 KS and his wife Hazel May Conrad is 37 KS and their son Neal Leroy is 15 KS. Daniel LeRoy is the son of George William Putnam and Anna Matilda Rudy from Harlan, Smith County Kansas. He was home there from 1900 to 1920. He was in Hawkeye, Osborne County Kansas in 1930. Then they were in West Loveland, Larimer County Colorado in 1940, then back here. He was born in Gaylord, Kansas on March 12, 1903 and will die in Garden City, Kansas on November 16, 1990. Hazel was born on August 17, 1912 and will die in Houston, Texas on June 15, 2000. Both are buried in the Natoma, Kansas Cemetery. New England family.

 

LYLE B. (BRITAIN) PUTNAM  Wichita, Sedgwick County

He is 38 CO and his wife Maurine Harbaugh is 38 KS and they have Karl J. 11 KS. He is a physician and is a son of Elton P. Putnam and Georgia A. Britain from here and was here with then in 1920, 1930 and 1940. His mom died in the 1930 and his dad on June 15, 1942. Lyle was born in Colorado Springs, El Paso County Colorado June 20, 1911 and will die December 30, 1990 here in Wichita. Maurine was born March 14, 1912 and will die here March 29, 1978.

 

MARGE D. PUTNAM  Wichita, Sedgewick County

She is listed as 50 MO but is really 60 MO and widowed. Writing a 5 or 6 can be identical if the open back of the 5 is kinda filled in. Anyway, she is Marge Delia Foland and was the second wife of George Dee Putnam. They were married in Missouri March 4, 1925, and was here with him in 1930 and 1940. He died January 18, 1944 and she is widowed. I think he is the guy in Vernon County Missouri in 1900. He said he was born in KY and had a wife Jessie then. This is a second marriage for both, so it kinda fits. Haven’t been able to figure out who George was though. She uses the name Delia M. Saville and last Foland in separate things. So one is maiden name and other name in first marriage.

 

OPAL S.  PUTNAM  Wichita, Sedgewick County

She is 43 KS and widowed. She has her married daughter Earlene Ann 17 KS and her hubby Edwin Roach 20 KS. Opal Sarah Swann was married to Roy Earl Putnam in Reno, Reno County in1930 and 1940, and then they moved here. Roy just died here in Wichita December 12, 1949. He was a son of William Ray Putnam and Nellie Clark and was born July 7, 1905 in Great Bend, Barton County. Opal was born in Greenwood County October 3, 1905. She will marry Richard King Fox and will die here September 18, 1997.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Wichita, Sedgewick County

He is 29 NY and his wife Thelma Cloelia Carr is 28 OK and they have William Jr. 4 NY. William Gordon Putnam is a son of George Putnam and Mae Rorick from Seneca, Ontario County New York. His dad is a son of Charles Spencer and Gertrude Putnam from Gorham, Ontario County. New England family originally. William was born November 3, 1920 and will die here in Wichita June 29, 2004. He works in an aircraft plant. Thelma was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma August 1, 1921 and will die here December 1, 2004. She is a daughter of Marion J. Carr and Hazel M. Lingelbach. She and Bill were married in Oklahoma City June 25, 1945. He was a Sergeant in the Army in WWII and probably stationed in Oklahoma. Probably where they met. He enlisted July 20, 1942 and was discharged January 25, 1946.

 

WILLIAM R. PUTMAN  Wichita, Sedgewick County

He is 28 KS and married to Dorothy Messer 36 KS. Messer was her married name from a prior marriage. She has a son Michael J. Messer 1 OK. Can’t find much on either of these folks. There is a marriage certificate that has them getting married in Arkansas March 10, 1950. It also states that she lived in Copan, Washington County Oklahoma and Bill lived in Bartlesville, Washington County Oklahoma at the time of the wedding. They must have split as there is another Arkansas marriage record that a Mrs. Dorothy Putman married William Ray Putman in Van Buren, Crawford County Arkansas March 14, 1953. No clues to any parents or anything.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Topeka, Shawnee County

He is 28 NE and married to Marie Maxine Rothberger 21 KS. He is a farmer in a railroad shop and she a typist in the hospital. Charles Eugene is a son of John Harrison Putnam, Jr. and Mary Josephine Davenport from Gothenburg, Dawson County Nebraska. He was born in Sutton, Clay County Nebraska March 2, 1922 and will die here August 6, 2010. Marie was born in Douglas County Kansas July 14, 1928 and will die in Topeka November 20, 2019. Her flks were Maxwell and Katherine Elizabeth Rothberger. His dad is a son of John Harrison Putnam and Sarah Ellen Carey. Charles was in the NAVY from March 5, 1940 till March 18, 1946New Englanders.

 

IDA B. (BLANCH) PUTNAM  Topeka, Shawnee County

She is 66 MO widowed and lives with her married daughter Elizabeth L. O’Connell 40 MO and husband Wayne A. O’Connell 46 KS. Ida and Elizabeth were in Springfield, Green County Missouri in 1940. Here is what I had then:  Ida is 56 MO and says married. She is living with her divorced daughter Elizabeth Rhodes 30 MO. Elizabeth was here in 1935 and Ida was in St. Louis, Missouri.”  On the Find a Grave site she is buried in Aurora, Lawrence County Missouri and the name is Ida Blanch Putnam born September 1883 and died January 1953. Birth date and her age are perfect. So, back to ground zero. Good Luck!

 

MARIE PUTNAM  Topeka, Shawnee County

Ellen Marie is 9 KS and is a Step daughter Willard Long 32 KS and his wife Evelyn Long 32 KS. Evelyn L. Busch was married to Vinnal William Putnam in Abilene, Dickinson County in 1940. They divorced and he moved to Seattle Washington. Vinnal is a son of John Harrison Putnam, Jr. and Mary Josephine Davenport from Gothenburg, Dawson County Nebraska. He was born in Sutton, Clay County Nebraska January 16, 1917 and will die out in Seattle, Washington in July 1979. His dad is a son of John Harrison Putnam and Sarah Ellen Carey. His folks were divorced and he was with his mother in Adams County Iowa in 1900. New Englanders.

 

MARY PUTMAN  Topeka, Shawnee County

She is 40 KS, a nurse and divorced. Mary Elizabeth Kaul married Charles William Putman June 12, 1919 in Holton, Jackson County Kansas and was with him in Banner County in 1920 and Brown County in 1930. Charlie is a son of Fred Putman and Lucy Little from Jackson County. He was born in Holton, Jackson County Kansas June 12, 1898 and will die April 3, 1973 in Pottawatomie County Kansas. Mary is a daughter of John Kaul and Harriet Elizabeth Stokes and was born in Franklin, Jackson County Kansas May 21 1898. She will die December 10, 1988 and is buried back in Franklin where she was born.

 

RAYMOND E. (EDWARD) PUTNAM  Topeka, Shawnee County

He is 30 KS and his wife Eunice Ethel Buttel is 25 KS. They have Cecelia 4 NC, William R. 3 KS and Donald R. born right here in October 1949. He is a son of William Clewey Putnam and Sadie Elizabeth Byerly from Stockton, Rooks County where he was born March 7 1920 in Natoma, Osbrne County Kansas and will die August 15, 2005 here in Topeka. Eunice was born October 10, 1924 in Ramona Mario, Kansas and will die April 21, 1999. She is a daughter of Jesse Buttel and Ethel Koehenomer. They are both buried in West Lawn Memorial Gardens here in Topeka.

 

THELMA I. (IONA) PUTNAM  Topeka, Shawnee County

She is 39 KS. She is a patient/inmate at the Topeka State Mental Hospital. Thelma is a daughter of Harvey Elbridge Putnam and Sarah Jane Tyler from Grand View, Morris County where she has been since she was born January 15, 1910. She was at home in 1940, so she has been committed since then. She will die in November 1985 back in Council Grove, Morris County.

 

LEONARD PUTMAN  Blaine, Smith County

He is 47 KS and is a Patman and spelled as such in the 1930 and 1940 and in all the Ancestry records. Bad writing this year.

 

CALLIE PUTNAM  Gaylord, Smith County

She is 65 KS and single. She is a grade school teacher. She now lives by herself as her dad died here in 1941 and her mom in 1946. Callie Mae Putnam is a daughter of Edwin Willard Putnam and Hannah Jane Woodward. They have been living in Houston Township here in Smith County for decades. Callie was born October 12, 1884 and will die here in April 1968. She married a Collins guy and had a son Creede Collins in 1911. Her dad was a son of Justin Ebenezer Putnam and Mary Ann Stafford from here in Smith County and then in Osborne County before that and Illinois before that. Edwin was born back in Kane County Illinois but has been here since 1878.

 

DONALD E. (EUGENE) PUTNAM  Lincoln, Smith County

He is 53 KS MN KS and is now a farmer. His wife Thelma Lucille Smith is 47 KS, and they have Alden D. 13 KS still at home. He married Thelma in Smith County September 2, 1920. He is a son of George William Putnam and Anna Matilda Matilda Rudy from Smith County. He was home there in 1910 and 1920. He was born October 10, 1896 in Osborne County, and he will die in Topeka on May 21, 1964. Thelma was born June 6, 1902 and will die in Downs, Osbourne County March 17, 1988. They had 3 other kids in 1940 that are off on their own now. The daughter Eugenia was born August 24, 1921, and will die in Hutchinson, Reno County March 12, 2014. She married Royal E. Perkins and they are in Crystal Plains in 1950. Donna Maxine was born June 24, 1926 and will die in Ellis County, Kansas October 23, 2016. Drank too much in anticipation of here birthday the next dat. She married Frank Darwin Bradley and they are in Johnson County Kansas in 1950. The son Gayland or Galen was born November 22, 1930 and will die in Wichita September 6, 1970.

 

LAURA D. (DELLA) PUTNAM  Macksville, Stafford County

She is 65 KS and now widowed. Laura Della Eastman was married to Walter Putnam in Farmington, Stafford County in 1940. He died there April 12, 1940. He was a son of Samuel Deloss Putnam and Sarah Ockerman from Ohio and then Mercer County Missouri. Walter was born in Leon, Iowa December 15, 1875. They were in Nebraska in 1880 and back in Iowa in 1900. He was in Des Moines, Iowa in 1910, and came here to Reno County Kansas shortly afterwards, and was here till he died in Emporia April 12, 1940. Laura was born in Spearville, Kansas November 4, 1884 and will die in Hutchinson, Kansas February 16, 1956. New York Dutch family.

 

JAMES B. (BURRIS) PUTMAN  Mulvane, Sumner County

He is 78 MO GA TN and now works at an Aircraft Factory. His wife Ada Blanch Love is 65 MO. Daughters Helen H. Putman 40 MO, Doris Love Putman 44 MO, and their divorced daughter Lella J. Koenig 43 MO and her daughter Doris Ann 7 KS are here. He is a son of John Ezekiel Putman and Sarah Grimes from Newton County Missouri. Ada Love is his second wife and they were married in Jasper County Missouri June 29, 1904 and were there through the 1920 census. They came here to Kansas in 1929 and were here in 1930 and 1935. He was born November 12, 1871 and will die here in Kansas February 23,1965. Ada was born in Missouri February 7, 1885 and will die in Mulvane Kansas October 2, 1966. The three daughters never married. Helen was born March 8, 1909 and will die here January 28, 1990 and Margaret who is currently teaching in Butler County was born July 10, 1911 and will die on October 4, 1990, and Doris was born November 30, 1915 and will die November 18, 2008. GEORGE W. PUTMAN  Kansas City, Wyandotte County

He is 66 MO and his wife Emily L. 64 IL. There is a Social Security Death thing that has Emily born September 26, 1886 and dying in Albany, Dougherty County Georgia in February 1968. Can’t find anything on George or figure out this gang at all.

 

LAWRENCE PUTMAN  Wyandotte, Wyandotte County

He is 54 PA PA PA and a mechanic in a garage. His wife Dorothy White is 50 KS, and they have Lawrence Ellsworth 21 KS. They were here in 1920, 1930 and 1940. He is a son of Stewart and Eliza Putman from Somerset County Pennsylvania. He was born April 21, 1895, and will die in Shawnee Kansas in February 1968.  Dorothy was born March 28, 1900 and will die in Shawnee June 21, 1988. Lawrence is a part of the German Family of Andrew Buttman.
