MARYLAND 1950 CENSUS

In the 1940 census and especially now in the 1950 Census, the handwriting on the sheets is a bit better. But now that people are using Ancestry and Family Search and putting their family trees up on the sites, and the sites themselves have much better search engines and send you to a whole bunch of info docs and records. I now can find a family sheet on about everyone and many on the wife’s side. When I first started doing this in the very early 1970s, all that was available to see was up to the 1900. There was no such thing as on-line and the computers then were the size of a locker room. I had to drive out to Waltham, Massachusetts to the U. S. Library, beg for a film real of the dates and State I wanted and then look at it through a visual device in a back dark room and literally go page to page, county to county and write the info down on paper with a pencil. At that time, really the most people doing genealogy were older women, mostly retired school teachers in their 70s and 80s, who would send you hand written trees and info and stuff that they had back a couple of generations. Once in a while I would get an actual typewritten document. Wow! Got much better in the 1990s. Now it is sooo easy to get info you didn’t think was possible. Back in the 70s I tried calling folks, and got a hold of several who had info. Now just an e-mail can bring in a ton of info. Anyway, really enjoy these censuses, and if you can add or correct, please let me know so I can help others.

ROBERT E. (EDWARD LEE) PUTMAN  Cumberland, Allegany County
He is 51 MD and his wife Helene Adella Wiles is 48 MD. He is a maintenance engineer for the Maryland State Roads Commission. Robert Edward Lee Putman is a son of Jacob Frederick Putman and Martha Naomi Zimmerman from here. He was born January 8, 1899 and will die in April 1979. 

WILLIAM A. (ADKIN) PUTNAM  Anne Arundel, Anne Arundel County
He is 49 NC. His wife Joyce Elizabeth Fairchild 41 NC and they have Mollie Frances 16 NC. He is a contractor. He is a son of William Adkin Putman Sr. and was born October 21, 1901. His mom Selina Agnes Moss died shortly afterwards, maybe from complications in childbirth. He never appeared with his father’s family. In 1920 he was with Jane Poole as an adopted son and then in 1930 she was with him listed as a widowed mother. Maybe he was born out of wedlock. Just don’t know. He married Joyce Elizabeth Fairchild July 31, 1927. He will die in Cherryville, Gaston County North Carolina October 5, 1976 and Joyce will die September 22, 1988 in Waco, Gaston County. They have been in Cherryville, Gaston County North Carolina up till now. 

GLEN I. (IRVING) PUTNAM  Beverly Beach, Anne Arundel County
He is 28 FL and his wife Mildred C. is 31 Minnesota. He is a house carpenter just like his dad. He is a son of Glenn Irving Putnam and Mary Putnam. His dad is a son of Merritt Putnam and Clara Stringham. Yes, Mary is a Putnam as well. She isa daughter of Hartson Putnam and Roselle Quance from Genesee County New York. New Englanders from Danvers, Massachusetts. He was born in St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Florida.

CLYDE H. (HAVENS) PUTNAM  Crestwood Park, Anne Arundel County
He is 42 MA and his wife Blanche Mildred Clark 35 MA and they have Arthur W. 9 MA. He is an investigator for the Social Security Agency. He is the son of Arthur Bryant Putnam and Ethel M. Fletcher and was at home with them in Sutton in 1920. In 1930, Clyde was single and working on a farm in Sutton. Clyde Havens Putnam was born on June 29, 1907 in Sutton, Worcester County Massachusetts. He will die on January 9, 1970 at the age of 62 in Deming, Luna, New Mexico. He was buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming, Luna, New Mexico. Clyde Havens Putnam and Blanche Mildred Clark were married on July 19, 1939 in Sutton, Worcester County Massachusetts. Blanche Mildred Clark, daughter of George Edward Clark and Louise Augusta Putnam, was born on December 9, 1914 in Oxford, Worcester County Massachusetts. Clyde and Blanche are listed in Lincoln, Massachusetts in 1940. Note that Clyde’s father and Blanche’s mother are Putnams but not closely related (4^th cousin once removed).

LAWRENCE E. (ERNEST) PUTNAM  Friendship, Anne Arundel County
He is 50 IA IA IL and runs a garage with his father Warren. Evelyn Gertrude Sansbury his wife is 47 MD and they now have Rebecca Ann 12 MD. Lawrence Ernest Putnam was born May 24, 1900 in Melrose Township, Grundy County Iowa and will die in Estero, Florida December 26, 1967. He married Evelyn here on August 11, 1923. She was born near Friendship August 22, 1902 and will die March 10, 1990 in Prince Frederick, Calvert County Maryland. New England folks.

ARCHIE N. (NEVELIN) PUTMAN  Baltimore, Baltimore County
He is Archie Nevelin Putman 31 VA, his wife Irva Virginia Walton 29 MD and they have Evelyn Virginia 11 MD and a son Nevelin T. 9 MD. He is a son of Oliver Thomas Putman and Minnie Myrtle Putnam from Rappahannock County Virginia.  

ARCHIE S. (SAMUEL) PUTMAN Baltimore, Baltimore County
He is 589 MD MD MD and has a farm. Emma B. Ramsburg his wife is 58 MD. They have Andrew H. 30 MD and Donald 19 MD. They were in Howard County in 1920 Frederick County in 1930 and someplace on the moon in 1940. He is a son of Noah Hamilton Putman and Ida Mae Stauffer from Howard County. Archie was born in Frederick County April 13, 1892 and will die in Darlington, Harford County Maryland May 5, 1966. Part of the German Boudemont/Buttman/Putman family.

BUELAH PUTNAM  Baltimore, Baltimore County
She is 70 MI and never married she says. She was a teacher here in 1930 and then said her dad was from Massachusetts and her mom from Vermont. So, found her in Michigan in 1880. She is a daughter of Robert Riley Putnam and Julia Ann Baily and was born in Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County Michigan.

CALVIN R. (RICHARD) PUTNAM  Baltimore, Baltimore County
He is 25 MD and single. He has his widowed mother Miriam Putnam 53 MD. He is a math teacher at a private university. He is a son of Calvin Sibley Putnam and Miriam May Kolb and was born here May 25, 1924 and will die in Lafayette, Tippecanoe County Indiana April 24, 2008. New England family. He will soon go to Indiana and be a math professor at John Hopkins University operated by Purdue University. He will then marry Emogene Mae Ferrell out there in 1952.

CHARLES C. (CARTER) PUTNAM  Baltimore, Baltimore County
He is 30 MD and his wife Helen May Crismer is 10 MD and they have Joanne 11 MD. He isan office manager at a stapling company whatever that is. He is a son of Arthur Irvin Putnam and Edna M. Crist and was born here September 22, 1919 and will die right here as well on February 21, 2011. His folks are listed right above. Southern Putman family from Fauquier then Warren Counties in Virginia.

CHARLES E. PUTNAM  Baltimore, Baltimore County
He is 32 PA and his wife Lucille A. is 23 WV and they have Anna L. 6 MD, Charles E. 4 MD and Paul F. 2 MD. He works on an assembly line at an aircraft manufacturing plant. Can’t figure him out at all.

DANIEL PUTMAN  Baltimore, Baltimore County

He is 61 MD and separated. He is a carpenter for the city of Baltimore. Think the age is screwed up. This looks like Daniel Luther Putman, a son of Noah Hamilton Putman and Ida Stauffer from Frederick County. He is or was married to Margaret Ramsburg in Frederick County in 1940. She is listed shortly here in Baltimore and says she too is separated and has all the kids. German line from Pennsylvania to out here.

EDWIN A. (ARCHIE) PUTMAN  Baltimore, Baltimore County
He is 31 MD and his wife Doris R. Beltz is 28 MD and they have Lawrence A. 2 MD. Also here is Doris’ Mom Ruth E. Beltz is 63 MD. He is a son of Archie Samuel Putman and Emma Belle Ramsburg from Urbana, Frederick County. He was born Marriottsville, Maryland February 11, 1919 and will hang around Maryland and die in Anne Arundel County February 7, 2002. Doris was born in Maryland March 2, 1922 and will die here August 30, 2008. German Buttman line from Pennsylvania to Frederick County here.

FLORENCE M. (MACE) PUTNAM  Baltimore, Baltimore County
She is 84 MA widowed and living with William and Rebecca Walker as their aunt. Florence Mace was the third wife of Otis Earle Putnam from Worcester, Massachusetts. She married him in 1902 and was with him there in 1910. He  died and she was back home here in 1920. She returned to Worcester and was there in 1930 widowed, and also listed in Washington DC in 1930. She was here in 1940.

HELEN PUTMAN  Baltimore, Baltimore County
She is a Negro 35 FL and divorced. She was listed here in 1940 at age 35. So maybe she was only 25 FL then.

JAMES R. (ROBERT) PUTNAM  Baltimore, Baltimore County
Carolyn Remsen a couple days later on October 10, 1970 also in Miami. Jim was born in Fairmont, West Virginia April 7, 1928 and will die in Pineville, North Carolina where he must be running a moonlight booze biz and, will die on August 7, 2017. He had 3 wives and his dad had 3 as well. Guess they just like a little variety in their lives. Massachusetts to Bath County Virginia family. 

JERRY N. PUTNAM  Baltimore, Baltimore County
He is 21 NY and is a musician in an orchestra and lodges with several other musicians. Can’t find in New York. May not be a Putnam/Putman.  

KENNETH PUTMAN  Baltimore City

He is 32 MD and his wife Mary Elizabeth Burdge 30 GA and they now have Claudia Irene 10 GA, Ida Louise 9 MD, Kenneth L. 7 MD, Gerald L. 3 MD and Charles 1 MD. He is Kenneth Woodrow Putman a son of Archie Samuel Putman and Emma Ramsburg from Urbana, Frederick County in 1930 and Howard County before that. He was born there January 3, 1918 and will die in Winston-Salem, North Carolina March 16, 1986. They were living in Mount Airy, North Carolina before he died. Mary is a daughter of Samuel Alley and Claudia Burdge and was born in Macon, Georgia November 3, 1909 and will die in Newport News, Virginia January 28, 1992.

MARGARET A. PUTMAN  Baltimore, Baltimore County
She is 52 MD and separated. Margaret Ramsburg  is/was married to Daniel Luther Putman in Frederick County in 1940. He is listed earlier here in Baltimore and also says separated. She has some of the kids with her. Wilber L. 30 MD, Dolores I 21 MD a daughter in law, probably Wilbur’s wife, Bernard R. 21 MD and another son Mehrel L. 14 MD. German family from Pennsylvania into Frederick County.

MELVIN L. (LUTHER) PUTMAN  Baltimore, Baltimore County
He is 34 MD and his wife Margaret Alice is 29 MD and they have Sandra J. 11 MD. He owns a bar and restaurant. He is a son of Daniel Luther Putman and Margaret Ramsburg from Frederick County. Melvin was born March 15, 1916 and will die January 3, 1955. 

NORMAN L. (LAMAR) PUTMAN  Baltimore, Baltimore County

He is 24 MD a bartender. His wife Darleen Elizabeth Kehler is 21 PA and they have Bruce A. 1 MD. He is a son of Daniel Luther Putman and Margaret Alice Ramsburg from Woodsboro, Frederick County. He was born April 18, 1926 and will die here in Baltimore April 16. 1984. Darleen was born June 10, 1928 in Northumberland County Pennsylvania and will die December 1, 2019 in Carroll County Maryland. German Buttmans of course.

NORMAN O. (OSCAR) PUTMAN  Baltimore, Baltimore County

He is 25 MD and his wife Dorothea Elizabeth Wilkins is 20 MD and they have Robert R. born in December 1949. They live with her folks Robert and Margaret Wilkins and their family. He is a hot tar roofer. Norm was born in Frederick County March 19, 1925 and will die in Hagerstown, Maryland December 24, 1979. He  married Dorothea in 1945. Dorothea was born June 6, 1929 and will die here in Baltimore County September 13, 1975. German Buttman family.

PATRICK PUTNAM  Baltimore City, Baltimore County
He is 31 NY and his wife Ruth Ann Nolen is 26 AR and they have Anne 4 LA. He is a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Looks to be Patrick Dorr Putnam a son of Dorr Burritt Putnam and Anna May O’Hara and was born in Syracuse, New York May 23, 1918and will die in Jacksonville, Florida December 8, 2010. 

ROBERT B. (BERTIE) PUTNAM  Baltimore City, Baltimore County
He is 46 WV and married, but his wife isn’t around. He manages an apartment building. He does have Robert B. Jr.17 VA, William A. 13 IL and Regina C. 11 IL. He married Margaret Printz Damron October 11, 1924 in Lewis, West Virginia. He then married Maxine Juanita Day in Indiana September 2, 1936. They are probably still sorta married and then he will try it again with Mary Lillian Jones here in Carroll County Maryland October 10, 1959. He is a son of Robert William Putnam and Lula Day Acord and was born June 24, 1903in Grafton, West Virginia and will pack it in  here in Baltimore June 18, 1977. His first wife Maggie Damron will outlast them all and die on the beach in Miami, Florida August 11, 2000. This is part of the Massachusetts family that liked it enough to stay in Bath County Virginia after fighting in the Revolutionary War couple centuries earlier.

ROBERT E. (EDWARD LEE) PUTMAN (JR.)  Baltimore, Baltimore County
He is 25 MD and his wife Phyllis Ann Peak is 22 MD and they have Pamela M. 3 MD and Paula N. 1 MD. He is Robert E. Lee Putman Jr. His folks Robert E. Lee and Helene Putman are currently is Cumberland, Allegany County. He and Phyllis were married June 28, 1946, and will get divorced February 16, 1977. Then he will marry Emma Ruth Ponder Coleman March 5, 1977 in Fairfax, Virginia. He was born July 24, 1923 in Frederick County Maryland and will die September 22, 1986 in Arlington, Virginia or at least be buried there. 

ROBERT M. (MEADS) PUTNAM  Baltimore City, Baltimore County
He is 56 DC, his wife Elizabeth Catherine Schafer 56 DC and they have Elizabeth Anne 12 VA. He is a federal veterinarian with the U. S. Government Bureau of Animal Rescue. He is a son of William Henry Putnam and Rosa Belle Meads. He was born October 20, 1894 in Washington DC. He was with the family in Alexandria County Virginia in 1900 and back in Washington in 1910 with his widowed mother. He was married to Elizabeth in Richmond in 1920 and 1930 and here in Baltimore in 1940. He will die in Fort Royal, Warren County Virginia November 28, 1991. His dad was a son of Silas Putnam and his first wife Ann Eliza Wells from Fauquier County. Southern Putmans.

WALTER PUTMAN  Baltimore City, Baltimore County

He is 28 MD single and now runs a filling station. He says he is married but no little gal around. Listed next in his house is Mary Summers 65 MD listed as mother-in-law. He is a son of William Wallace Putnam and Carrie Lee Grady. He was born in Bel Air Harford County and his family has been there through the 1930. His mom Carrie died in 1938 according to a few family trees, so don’t know what to make of it. Southern Putmans originally out of Fauquier County Virginia.

THEO O. (OLIVER) PUTNAM  Hampstead, Carroll County
He is 35 VA and his wife Elsie S. is 38 WV. He is a son of Oliver Thomas Putman and Minnie Putnam. folks. Oliver is an adopted son of John and Angeline Putnam from Rappahannock County, Virginia. His wife is a Putnam though. Minnie Myrtle was a daughter of Joseph Winter and Mary Putnam of Fauquier County, Virginia. Theo was born in Amissville, Virginia August 14, 1914 and will die October 19, 1999. Southern Putman line.

H. (HENRY) CLAY PUTMAN  Middleburg, Carroll County
He is 67 MD And widowed. He was married to Bessie Olivia Watcher here through 1940. He is now living with his son Earl E. 41 and his married daughter Katheryn L. 26 MD and her husband Richard H. Green 26 MD. He is a son of John Henry Putman and Phebe Ann Hart, and was in Frederick County in 1900. He was born in Frederick County September 11, 1882. He married Bessie December 26, 1906. She was a daughter of Thomas Michael Wachter and Cynthia Measell and was born in Frederick County April 9, 1885 and died here April 25, 1947. He was here in 1910 and 1920. German Buttman family.

RICHARD S. (SAMUEL) PUTMAN  Sykesville, Carroll County
He is 27 MD and his wife Lillian Augusta Sandosky is 28 MD and they have Peggy Ann 2 MD. They live with Lillian’s folks Louis and Lillian Sandosky. He is a son of Archie Samuel Putman and Emma Ramsburg and was born in Howard County, Maryland August 21, 1924 and was with the folks in Urbana, Frederick County in 1930. He married Lillian September 8, 1946 right here in Sykesville. He will die in Westminster, Carol County Christmas Eve December 24, 2005. I understand that he got into a drinking contest with Santa after he came down the Chimney and didn’t make it for Christmas. Family line goes back to Jacob Putman or Buttman who came over from Germany in the 1760s.

NETTIE V. (VIRGINIA) PUTMAN  Taneytown, Carroll County
She is 74 MD and never been married. She is a daughter of John Henry Putman and Phebe Ann Hart from Frederick County where she was born May 29, 1876 and she will die June 30, 1967 in Nearby Washington DC. She was here in 1940. German Buttman family.

PERCY V. (VERNON) PUTMAN  Taneytown, Carroll County

He is 65 MD MD MD. Belva Lockwood Humerick his wife is 62 MD. He is a house carpenter. He is a son of John Henry Putman and Phebe Ann Hart, and was in Frederick County in 1900, and then here ever since. All the kids are here in Carroll County. He was born April 11, 1885, and he will die here in April 1963. He married Belva in Frederick County March 5, 1913. She is a daughter of Charles Oliver Humerick and Catherine Elizabeth Pittinger and was born in Lewiston, Frederick County and will die here in Taneytown March 21, 1975. German like most everyone around here.

THURSTON E. (ELROY) PUTMAN  Taneytown, Carroll County

He is 34 MD and his wife Grace Virginia Hyser is 31 MD. They have Ronald T. 7 MD and Wayne E. 4 MD. ,\He is a stitching checker in a rubber footwear factory. Goulashes and rain boots, I guess. He is a son of Percy Vernon Putman and Belva Lockwood Humerick from here in town. He was born in Frederick County June 24, 1915 and will die in Westminster, Carroll County April 3, 1989. He married Grace in Graham, North Carolina September 4, 1937. Grace was born right here December 23, 1918 and will die in Westminster, Carroll County February 23, 2011. German folks like most everyone around here.

AARON F. (FRANKLIN) PUTMAN  Uniontown, Carroll County

He is 40 MD, his wife Ruth L. Foust 34 PA and they have Joyce C. 11 MD and James H. 8 MD. They were married in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania March 21, 1935 and were in Taneytown in 1940. An aunt, Allie M. Late 75 MD is with them. He is an inspector at the rubber shoe factory in town. He is a son of Clarence Allen Putman and Sarah May Light from Frederick County. His dad was a brother of Percy Putman here in Taneytown. Germans descended from Philip Boudemount/Buttman.

NORMAN R. (ROY) PUTMAN  Uniontown, Carroll County

He is 43 MD MD MD and his wife Catherine Louise Dickensheets is 34 MD. They have Doris 8 MD. He is a carpenter for the State Road Commission. He is a son of Clarence Allen Putman and Sarah Mary Light, grandson of John Henry Putman. He was born March 29, 1907 and will die in Westminster March 26, 1997 at age 89.  He was home with his folks in Frederick County in 1910 and 1920 and single here in 1930. He married Catherine about 1938 and they were here in 1940. She is a daughter of William Guy Dickensheets and Rosie Catherine Goodwin and was born in Medford, Carroll County October 15, 1915 and will die April 7, 2006 in Uniontown, Carroll County at age 90. Pennsylvania Buttman German gang. Probably pissed Adolf blew it few years ago.

ARTHUR F. (FISHER) PUTMAN  Westminster, Carroll County

He is 48 MD MD MD and has his own farm. His wife Thelma Elizabeth Angleberger is 46 MD. Kids all gone now. He is a son of Calvin Lee Putman and Effie Mae Fisher from Creagerstown, Frederick County. He was born there April 29, 1902 and will die here October 18, 1958. She was born October 24, 1903 and will die in August 1984 in Union Bridge, Maryland. Another descendant from the German Buttman gang out of Frederick County.

CLAYBORNE PUTNAM  Perry Point, Cecil County
He is 60 IL and single. He is in the Veterans Hospital Mental Institution. He was admitted here in June 1933. He is Clayborne Lorenzo Putnam and was born August 23, 1890 in Winnebago County Illinois. He is a son of Charles L. Putnam and Margaret E. Creller. Charles was out of Wyoming County New York. Clayborne was born in Illinois but was in Washington State with his folks in 1900 and back in Rockford, Winnebago County with his folks in 1910. He was in a Military Hospital in San Francisco, California in 1920. He was in another hospital in Washington DC by 1930. And here in 1940 and now. Guess got wounded pretty badly in WW I. He was in the Navy and will die December 11, 1960 and be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.  

CLYDE A. (ALLEN) PUTNAM  Allens Fresh, Charles County
He is 57 LA and his second wife Ellen is 50 MD. There is a cousin Kenneth Bowling 11 MD. . Clyde Allen is a son of Edwin Joseph Putnam and Susan Brown from Calcasieu Parish Louisiana. He was born in Jennings, Louisiana December 19, 1892. He was home there in 1910 and in Kansas in 1920 and Houston, Texas in 1930. They were there in the 1925 Kansas State Census. He and Vera Matthews, his first wife, split as in his 1942 WWII registration he was living in Norfolk, Virginia and married to Ellen. His dad was a son of Harvey Putnam and Rebecca Stewart from Vermont originally. New England family. 

MELVIN J. PUTNAM  Pomonkey, Charles County
He is 34 MD and his wife Gene is 24 MD and they have Michael W. 1 MD. He is currently in the Armed Forces. Can’t figure him. He is not the Melvin who is now in Baltimore. Age is same but different wife. Maybe he is Mormon and has a couple of families. 

THE PUTMANS in Frederick County
The bulk of the Putmans in Frederick County descend from John Jacob Putman who came over from Germany. The name was originally Boudemont that simplified to Buttman and then to Putman like so many others in Maryland. Johan Adam Boudemont and his parents Phillip Jacob and Maria Elizabeth Boudemont came over from Rohrbach, Bavaria Palatine in Germany on the ship St. Andrew that left Rotterdam in the Netherlands in May of 1743 and arrived in Philadelphia on October 7, 1743. They were in Frederick County Maryland by 1744. Jacob Boudemont was born in 1660 in Alsne, France and came to Germany in the late 1670s and married Jeane Daudigny in Muhilhofen, Pfalz Germany in 1682. Descendants are here in Frederick County today.

JOHN A. (ALLEN) PUTMAN  Braddock, Frederick County

He like everyone has his own general farm. He is 55 MD MD MD, Rosa Louella Kolb his wife is 61 MD and Patricia K. 20 MD is still at home. John Allen Putman is a son of Greenberry H. Putman and Ida Rebecca Joy from here in Frederick County. He was born here July 10, 1891 and will die here July 18, 1968. He married Rosa Kolb October 17, 1912. She was born August 17, 1886 and will die February 12, 1972. They have been in Buckystown in 1920, 1930 and 1940. Boudemont/Buttman/Putman family from Germany in the mid 1700s.

AUSTIN Z. (ZIMMERMAN) PUTMAN  Buckeystown, Frederick County
He is 39 MD and his wife Norma Batten Warwick is 36 NJ and they have Clara A. 6 MD and Austin Z. Jr. 4 MD. Then there is a hired hand named Putman Dutrow 22 MD living with them. Austin is a son of Raymond Cleveland Putman and Bertha Emily Zimmerman from Ballinger, Frederick County. They were here in Buckeystown in 1920 and 1930. Austin was born here July 4, 1910 amid the noisy Fireworks and will die on the quiet day after Christmas December 26, 1994. Now as to Putman Dutrow. Robert Thomas Dutrow married Greenberry Putman’s daughter Mary Carmel Putman and they had the kid that helped tie the two families together. Similar here with Austin’s middle name being his momma’s maiden name.

CLARENCE A. (ALVIN) PUTMAN  Emmitsburg, Frederick County

He is 70 MD MD MD and is a general farmer. Sarah May Light his wife is 64 PA. They have a granddaughter Lottie Muerbaw 6 MD. He is a son of John Henry Putman and Phebe Ann Hart from Lewistown. Been married here since the early 1900s. He was born August 21, 1879 and will die March 28, 1956. He married Sallie May Light December 6, 1905. German Buttman fella.

PAUL H. (HENRY) PUTMAN  Emmitsburg, Frederick County

Francis James Putman is a son of Lewis William Putman and Della Summers from Frederick. He was born May 5, 1910, and will die December 3, 1982 in a hospital in Washington DC. He married Evelyn Irene Hooper about 1938. She is a daughter of Ulysses Grant Hooper and Virgie Cordelia Cutsail and was born in Frederick County April 28, 1910 and will die here April 13, 1981.

Lester William Putman is a son of Lewis William Putman and Della Rosanna Summers. He was born here May 5, 1905 and will be around till he dies December 8, 1963. She was born February 20, 1910 and died in Frederick July 15, 2002.

Garland’s son Carl Roney Garland 13 MD, and Frances Putman a granddaughter 21 MD are here too as they were in 1940. Frances is a daughter of Lester William Putman and Viola Hahn. Lewis is a son of John Jacob Putman and Rebecca Shriver from here. He was born here July 31, 1871 and will be here till he dies January 4, 1956. German Putmans.

She is Rose Belle Grove 83 MD and widowed since her husband John Jerome Putman died. He was a son of John Jacob Putman and Rebecca Shriver from here. He was born June 29, 1856 and died April 28, 1931. He was a farmer in the Tuscarora District of Frederick County. He married Rose Belle Grove on June 18, 1884. She was born July 11, 1865 and will die July 29, 1953. They never had children. German Boudemont>Buttman>Putman family.

ROY G. (GREENBERRY) PUTMAN  Frederick, Frederick County

He is a farmer and now 77 MD MD MD. His wife Elsie Jane Grossnickle is 61 MD. And they have a roomer, Sarah A. Renner 92 MD with them. Don’t see any connections. He is a son of Greenberry Hezekiah Putman and Ida Rebecca Joy from here in Frederick County. He was born here December 28, 1882 and will be here till he dies in 1970. He married Alta Ilene Duval November 12, 1913. She died in 1946 and he married Elsie Jane Grossnickle. German Buttman family.

They have been in Creagerstown up till 1940 when they are here. He is a son of Greenberry Hezekiah Putman and Ida Rebecca Joy and was born here in Frederick County October 31, 1881 and will die here December 19, 1955. He married Bessie N. Mort in 1902. She is a daughter of Frederick Mort and Mary Pusey. He was indexed as RUTMAN and I didn’t have him in 1950 until I started Running a Rutman search of all the states. Bad writing and interpretation of it.

EARL C. (COBLENTZ) PUTMAN  Lewiston, Frederick County

He is 42 MD and his wife Helen Elizabeth Harper is 41 MD. They live with her widowed mother Mary Harper 75 MD. Earl is a son of Calvin Lee Putman and Effie May Fisher. He was born September 21, 1907 and will die July 8, 1988. He married Helen in Germantown, Pennsylvania December 31, 1933. She was born January 11, 1909 in Hansonville, Frederick County and will die in Frederick January 22, 1987.  He is a truck driver for a retail cattle dealer. Guess the days of getting on your high horse and heading a herd of cows to their end, was over by then. German folks from Germany to Pennsylvania to out here.

GLENN PUTMAN JR.  Lewistown, Frederick County
He is 28 MD and his wife Genevieve Runkles is 24 MD and they have Glenn Wayne 4 MD, Martha Jean 2 MD and Daniel L. 1 MD. They were married March 29, 1943. He is an auto mechanic. His folks Glenn and Pearl are listed next. He was born here in Lewistown May 2, 1921 and will die February 22, 1999. He and Genevieve will split and she will marry an Ellis fella. Glenn will later marry Jane Flora Fellows who is married to him when he dies. She was born  May 30, 1935 and will die in Frederick County August 1, 2019.

GLENN L. (LEE) PUTMAN  Lewistown, Frederick County
He is 52 MD MD MD and now is an equipment operator for a road building company. Pearl Susan Hahn his wife is also 52 MD. They have been here since the 1920. He is a son of Calvin L. Putman and Effie May Fisher from Creagerstown. His widowed mother is here in Lewistown too. He was born October 27, 1897 and died August 3, 1985. Pearl Hahn was born August 12, 1897 and will die in July 1972.

NAOMI E. PUTMAN  Lewistown, Frederick County

She is listed as 39 MD and has a daughter Barbara Jean 13 MD. Naomi Elizabeth Putman is a daughter of Calvin Lee Putman and Effie May Fisher. She was here in Lewistown with her widowed mom in 1940 and Barbara Jean was listed as a granddaughter then. Naomi says she is single and never married. So, I guess she got too sexed up at the drive-in movie theater in town and Barbara was an ‘oops’ baby. Anyway, Naomi was born in Frederick January 13, 1911 and will call it a day on July 12, 1972. She was buried under her name of Naomi Putman, so guess she never married. Part of the Pennsylvania German line.

OSCAR PUTMAN  Lewistown, Frederick County
He is 63 MD MD MD and a house carpenter helper. Eva Victoria Picking his wife is 56 MD. Still no children. Oscar James Putman is a son of Greenberry H. Putman and Ida Rebecca Joy. He was born here April 5, 1887 and will die here March 31, 1964. He married Eva Victoria Picking December 18, 1912. They have been in Tuscarora in 1920 and 1930. They are here in 1950.

RAYMOND C. (CLARENCE) PUTMAN  New Market, Frederick County
He is 65 MD MD MD and a general farmer. He married a widow Cora E. Eyre 52 MD back in 1930. He is a son of Noah Hamilton Putman and Ida Stauffer and was born here May 10, 1884. He was single up till then. He will die in Frederick City May 13, 1962. Cora was born April 25, 1897 and will die June 26, 1992. She was previously married to Arthur H. Isaacs from 1916 to the 1920s. 

RAYMOND C. (CLEVELAND) PUTMAN  Lewistown, Frederick County

He is 65 MD MD MD and still a farmer. His wife Bertha Emily Zimmerman is 65 MD, and they have Raymond Randolph 30 MD and Bertha Kathleen 28 MD who is now married to Claude W. Stoop. Ray is a son of Greenberry Hezekiah Putman and Ida Rebecca Joy from here in Frederick County. He was born here January 11, 1885 and married Bertha here October 16, 1907. He will be here till he dies May 13, 1962. Bertha was born in Frederick County October 3, 1884 and will die here April 7, 1966. They were in Buckeystown in 1920 and 1930 and then Ballinger, Frederick County in 1940. Germans of course.

CHARLES W. (WILSON) PUTMAN  Tuscarora, Frederick County
He is 37 MD and his wife Margaret Ann Mary Summers is 35 MD. They now have Marilee 10 MD and Barbara 5 MD. He is a son of Raymond Cleveland Putman and Bertha Emily Zimmerman from Ballinger, Frederick County where he was born November 18, 1912. He will die in Thurmont, Frederick County November 28, 2009. They were in Ballinger, Frederick County in 1940. German Buttmans out of Pennsylvania. Started using Putman in mid 1700s.

LAWRENCE E. (EUGENE) PUTMAN  Tuscarora, Frederick County
He is 7 MD and listed as a grandson with Guy & Nellie Nusz. He is also listed next with his folks Rhudel Putman and Helen Nusz. He was born February 20, 1943.

RHUDEL T. (THOMAS) PUTMAN  Tuscarora, Frederick County
He is 28 MD and his wife Helen Rebecca Nusz is also 28 MD and they have Lawrence E. 7 MD, Ronald E. (maybe Rhudel E.) 4 MD and Robert R. 1 MD. He is a son of Roy Greenberry Putman and Alta Irene Duvall from Buckeystown where he was born September 30, 1921 and he will die here in Frederick December 18, 2018. Helen was born June 23, 1921 and will die December 9, 2006. They were married here August 1, 1942 and wasted no time having lil Lawrence only 8 months later on February 20, 1943. Germans of course.

He is 22 MD single and lodging. Looks like David Wiles Putman a son of Robert Edward Lee Putman in Frederick. He was home there in 1940 at age 13 MD. No one else close. He was born in Frederick County February 16, 1927 and will die in Berlin, Worcester County Maryland August 31, 1998. German folks of course being here in Frederick County.

MARTIN L. (LUTHER) PUTMAN  Walkersville, Frederick County
He is a farmer 33 MD and his wife Marie Frances Nusbaum is 29 MD and they have Shirley Ann 8 MD, Mary V. 6 MD, Ella M. 3 MD and a son Carroll L. 1 MD. He is a son of Calvin Putman and Effie May Fisher from Lewistown here in Frederick County. He was born here December 21, 1916 and will die here January 23, 1983. Marie was born here April 10, 1920 and will die here April 30, 1995.

GAILORD E. (EDWARD) PUTMAN  Woodsboro, Frederick County

He is 60 MD MD MD and a farmer now. Elsie Matilda Albaugh his wife is 55 MD and they have Russell L. 15 MD still at home. He is a son of Noah Hamilton Putman and Ida May Stauffer from here. His dad died here in 1925, his mom died in 1935. Gailord was born here in Woodsboro Frederick County November 14, 1889 and will be here till he dies August 25, 1972. Elsie was born February 24, 1895 and will die August 2, 1975. Russell L. Putman was born November 22, 1933 and will die October 8, 1996. Southern Putmans from Fauquier County Virginia.

GAILORD E. (EDWARD) PUTMAN JR.  Woodsboro, Frederick County

He is 24 MD and his wife Hazel M. Few is 21 MD and they have Freida M. 3 MD and Roy E. 2 MD. He is a dairy man. He is a son of the above Gailord Senior. He was born January 26, 1926 in Howard Count Maryland and will die here in Frederick September 1, 2003. Hazel was born September 11, 1928 and will die in Frederick County April 3, 2010.

RALPH E. A. PUTMAN  Havre De Grace, Harford County
He is 54 Ks single and lodging. He is an electrical engineer at a research lab. He is a son of Charles Elsworth Putnam and Ida McGee and was at home in Franklin County Kansas in 1900. He was born November 18, 1896 and will die January 26, 1959.

He is 12 MD and living with his grandparents Daniel and Maud Brookhart. He is a son of the following Walter Putnam and Louise Brookhart. He was born here September 6, 1937 and will die January 16, 2013 in Madonna, Harford County.

He is Walter Lee Putnam 38 MD and an electrician at a steel mill. His wife Louise Preston Brookhart is 32 MD and they have Sandra 9 MD and Elaine 5 MD. He is a son of Walter Ashby Putnam and Carrie Lee Grady Part of the Fauquier County Virginia family.

He is 48 NC and his wife Kate Elizabeth Sharpe is 46 NC and they have Sam Grady Jr. 15 DC and Mary Lou 9 DC. He manages a cafeteria. He is a son of James Monroe Putman and Sarah Louise Bostick and was born August 28, 1901 in Cleveland County. He was at home in Cleveland County in 1910 and 1920. He married Kate in 1928 and they were in Durham, North Carolina in 1930 and Washington DC in 1940. Bethesda is right next door to Washington. Kate was a daughter of Julius Henry Sharpe and Mary Elizabeth Donnell and was born in Guilford County North Carolina November 14, 1900 and will die in Greensboro, Guilford County in June 1957. Grady will die there December 8, 1978.

LEONARD L. (LEE) PUTMAN  Clarksburg, Montgomery County
He is 44 VA and his wife Caroline Virginia Fry is 40 VA and they have Helen 17 VA and Frances 13 VA. He is a son of Thomas Henry Putnam and Susie Fauber who are in Leesburg, Loudoun County. Tom is a son of Thornberry Putman and Agnes Ball from Fauquier and then Rappahannock Counties. Leonard was born December 31, 1905 and Married Caroline June 16, 1926. He will die January 9, 1954. Caroline was born May 5, 1909 and will die back in Leesburg, Loudoun County on September 27, 1979. 

JANE C. (CAROL) PUTNAM  Garrett Park, Montgomery County
Jane Carol Gouldman was married here to Smith Leroy Putnam here in 1940. He just died here April 4, 1949. He is a son of William Cassius and Eleanor ‘Nellie’ Welch from New York State. He was shown at home in 1900in Muskegon, Muskegon County Michigan. They have been here ever since. Jane was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia February 24, 1883 and will die here April 8, 1967. Dutch Putmans from New York State.

HERBERT G. (GENERAL) PUTNAM  Chillum, Prince George’s County
He is 46 VA, his wife Pearl E. Hardesty 44 MD and they have Nina V. 22 DC, Herbert C.14 DC and Maurice R. 11 DC. Also here is Eppi Payne 63 VA an uncle. Herb is a barber. He is a son of Martin Thornsberry Putnam and Narcissa  Payne. He was born in Rappahannock County Virginia March 4, 1904 and will die in Hyattsville, Prince George’s County October 28, 1981.

She is 22 VA single and lodging by her lonesome with a family connected to University of Maryland. In 1940 Maryland, Robert Putnam and Elizabeth Schafer in Baltimore had Elizabeth Anne 12 VA. Only one that fits. 

ISRAEL PUTMAN  Laurel, Prince George’s County
He is 39 NY and his wife Irma Lucy Solomon is 31 NY and they have Heather 7 MD and Betsey 5 MD. He is Israel Putnam III an economist with the gas company, and she is a private school teacher. He is a son of Israel Putnam Junior and Maria Fuller and was with his divorced mother in Elmira, Chemung County New York in 1920 and single in Ithaca, Tompkins County New York in 1940. He was born in Elmira November 12, 1910 and will die here in Silver Springs, Maryland in March 1983. Irma will die here in Laurel July 12, 1951. He will then marry someone else in the late 1950s that I can’t find a name for.

ELLA G. PUTNAM  Millwood, Prince George’s County
She is listed as Ellis, but hard to read the writing. Ella or Ellen sounds better for a gal. She is listed as 27 MD and widowed. She has Terry E. 8 MD and Phyllis E. 7 DC and then Linda A. Duley 1 DC. She is living with and listed as a daughter of Ellis and Helen Duley. She is a secretary at the County Board of Education. No clues as to her husband.

VIVIAN S. (STANLEY) PUTNAM  Millwood, Prince George’s County
He is 26 ME and his wife Barbara Arlene Curtis 27 ME. They were married in Maine May 8, 1945. He is a son of Oscar John Putnam and Mabel A. Richardson from West Peru, Oxford County Maine. He was born there September 28, 1923. He is a radio inspector at an electrical shop. He will die in College Park, Prince George’s County Maryland  July 12, 1999. 

RICHARD E. (ELLSWORTH) PUTNAM  Piscataway, Prince George’s County
He is 42 MN and his wife Martha Ione Robinson is 33 ME and they have Nancy J. 3 DC. He is an iron worker. Ione is wife number 3. He married Christine Olafson in Hennepin, Minnesota October 22, 1927. Then her sister, I guess, Florence Grace Cecelia Olafson November 27, 1937 in Alexandria, Virginia. Then when that failed, he married Martha Ione Robinson in Arlington, Virginia June 30, 1942. They made it till he died. Richard is a son of Fred Ellsworth Putnam and Mabel Elizabeth Rice and was born October 20, 1907 in Hubbard County Minnesota and will hang in till he dies October 14, 1991 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Martha Ione will hang around here and die in Cumberland,  Maryland July 23, 2011.

ROBERT E. L. (EDWARD LEE) JR.  Riverdale, Prince George’s County

Young Robert is 26 MD and is married to Phyllis A. Peak 23 NY. He is a student of sorts. He is a son of Robert E. L. Senior and  Helene Adelia Wiles from Frederick where he was born July 24, 1923 and will die in the Hospice of Northern Virginia in Arlington, Virginia September 22, 1986. Another German Buttman family.

FERDINAND F. (FINLEY) PUTNAM  Spaulding, Prince George’s County
He is 37 AL and his wife Dorothy Elvira Howell is 36 NJ and has a daughter Geraldine Howell 12 NJ from Dorothy’s prior marriage. Ferdinand and Dorothy were married in Florida September 6, 1940. He is a sheet metal worker and Dorothy is a draftsman with the U. S. Nany. Ferdinand’s folks are Ferdinand Beecher Putnam and Clara Ross and they were in York, Alabama in 1920 and then St. Petersburg, Florida in 1930. His dad died in 1932 and Clara was widowed there in 1935 and 1940. Young Ferdie was probably in Florida in 1940, but can’t find. Ferdinand was born in Birmingham, Alabama October 7, 1912 and will die January 14, 1987 in Texas. Southern Putman family down from Tennessee to Alabama.

He is 76 VA and widowed. He is living with Richard and Bernice Allen. Another no-can-find guy.

WILLIS H. (HAVEN) PUTNAM  Queenstown, Queen Anne’s County
He is 67 NY and widowed. He is a real estate agent. His wife Abigail Van Nostrand died in New York City July 22, 1945. He is a son of Kingman Nott Putnam and Margaret Willis Vail and was born in New York City December 10, 1882. He will die in Abington, Plymouth County Massachusetts in December 1965. He is part of the family that started G. P. Putnam & Sons Publishing.

He is 34, his wife Alice M. 33 and they have Gretchen 1. No states or birth places noted. Can’t find him on Ancestry or anywhere else.

He is 32 PA and his wife Etta E. Moser is 32 MD and they have Bernice A. Putman 2 MD and Sara Roberts 14 from Etta’s earlier marriage. Her widowed mother Katherine C. Moser 68 MD is with them. Looks to be Charles Franklin Putman the son of William Putman and Mae Coolie from Blossburg, Tioga County Pennsylvania. He was there in 1920 and 1930 then in Homer, Cortland County New York with his remarried mom Mae. Age and all fits.
