MASSACHUSETTS 1920 CENSUS

 

HARRIET PUTNAM  Barnstable, Barnstable County

She is 80 MA and is living alone. She is Harriet Angeline Parker, now the widow of Samuel Abbott Putnam. They were here in Hyannis in 1900 and 1910.

 

ADRIAN L. (LEWIS) PUTNAM  Provincetown, Barnstable County

He is 85 MA. The listing shows his wife Adelaide Osborne Cook 79 MA and daughters Nellie F. 59 MA and Abbie C. 50 MA living with him. They have been here since they were married in 1860. The two daughters are here in 1930.

 

IDA PUTNAM  Sandwich, Barnstable County

She is 46 NY and is living with her niece Priscilla S. Putnam 23 MA. Also there is a boarder James N. Kelly 70 ENG. She is the daughter of William and Bertha Foster Putnam, and was here at home in the 1880 census. She was single here in 1910 and Kelley was here then too. Priscilla is a daughter of John and Adelaide Putnam and is also listed at home with them in New Haven Connecticut. Ida is John’s sister.

 

LUCY PUTNAM  Dalton, Berkshire County

She is 52 MA and is living with her mother Jane Putnam 77 MA. Mary Jane Cady is the widow of Henry Harrison Putnam. They were all here in 1900.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Dalton, Berkshire County

He is 25 MA, his wife Alta Alice Porter is 26 MA, their daughter Alta is 6 MA, son William is 4 years 3 months, daughter Esther is 2 years 8 months MA, and son Marshall is 1 1/2 MA. They are in Pittsfield with a bunch more kids in 1930. His marriage record has his parents are William and Marjorie (Bartlett) and that he was born in Boston about 1894.  He has three draft records which reveal his birth date is 6 Apr 1893.  One draft record has his birth in Boston and the other two say Fitchburg. He was in a care center or such in Monson, Hampden County in 1900. He had been adopted.

 

ALICE E. PUTNAM  North Adams, Berkshire County

She is 70 MA and living alone. I don’t find her before this.

 

GEORGE H. PUTNAM  Pittsfield, Berkshire County

He is 54 MA and is the father in law of Charles F. McNeil, with whom he is living with. He is a son of Charles and Almira Putnam from Springfield. He was married here in 1900 and 1910. Charles married his daughter Florence. By 1930 he will be in Queens, New York living with his son George.

 

JAMES A. (ALBERT) PUTNAM  Pittsfield, Berkshire County

He is 52 NH, his wife Myrtie Elsie Rawson is 46 NH. At home are their children: Dorothy 22 NH, Ralph E. 17 NH, and Alice M. 14 NH. There are also 2 boarders there. He is a son of James Putnam and Martha Jane Whipple of Winchester, Cheshire County New Hampshire. This James was in Cheshire County in 1900, and they were in Stafford, Connecticut in 1910. They will be just across the border in Columbia County New York in 1930 running a dairy farm.

 

ROSE PUTNAM  Pittsfield, Berkshire County

She is 25 MA and is living with her Uncle Samuel J. McCambridge. She is a daughter of George Putnam (listed earlier) and Lizzy McCambridge. They were all here in 1900.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Pittsfield, Berkshire County

He is 40 NY NY NY, his wife Maud Roberts is 39 MA, their son Clyde is 23 NY, daughter Meta Irene is 19 MA, and son Ralph Eugene is 12 NY. He has his own real estate office. They were here in 1900 and 1910. They are here in 1930 and both sons are married by then.

 

CARRIE PUTNAM  Fall River, Bristol County

She is 66 MA and widowed. She lives with her widowed sister Fanny Eddy. They were here in 1910. She was married to Frederick Stillman Putnam in East Hartford, Connecticut in 1900. She will be here in the Home for the Aged in 1930 at age 76.

 

ISRAEL PUTNAM  Fall River, Bristol County

He is 67 NY NY NY. Living with him is Amelia Avelon 54 CND. No ideas at all. Probably a Pitman, as there are lots around.

 

ADA PUTNAM  New Bedford, Bristol County

She is 24 MA, and listed with her stepfather Joseph Shepard and her mother Sarah 54 ENG. Her daughter Doris 4 MA is with her. No clue to her husband though.

 

ARTHUR C. PUTNAM  New Bedford, Bristol County

He is 40 NY. His daughter Janet 10 MA and sister-in-law Agnes Barton 36 MA live with him. He is a son, I think, of John Benedict Putnam and Aurellia Searles. He was home in Nashua in 1880 and with his folks again in Wayland, Mass. in 1900. He was married to Jessie Barton here in 1910.

 

EDWARD R. PUTNAM  New Bedford, Bristol County

He is 36 MA. He has a wife Margaret F. 32 MA and a daughter Eleanor C. 1 MA living with him. He is a son of Mary Putnam. They were here in 1900. His mom is still around here.

 

MARY PUTNAM  New Bedford, Bristol County

She is 59 MA, her daughter Lucy Joyce is 30 MA, and her niece Elizabeth Glynn is 29 MA. There are also three boarders. Mary E. Dollard was married to Wilbur Allen Putnam who died here in 1891. She was widowed here in 1900 and 1910 with Lucy and sons Edward and Harry. See that listing.

 

RALPH PUTNAM  New Bedford, Bristol County

He is 32 MA VT MA, his wife Mary is 27 MA, and their daughter Gretchen is 1 MA. He is a son of Sylvester Putnam and Kate Foley. He was born September 17, 1889 in New Bedford. His mom died there March 31, 1891. His dad was single in Newburyport in 1900. Sylvester was a son of Daniel Putnam and Lucy Hutchins from Rutland County Vermont. Sylvester was on Nantucket in 1900 living with an uncle. He was here in 1910 as his sister Elsie was. In 1930, Mary and Gretchen are in Wareham, but I don’t find Ralph anywhere.

 

MYRON PUTNAM  Amesbury, Essex County

He is 20 VT, his wife Alice Jackman is 20 NH. Her brother Clarence Jackman 27 MA is also living there. He is a son of Henry Lincoln Putnam and was born in Brattleboro, Vermont in 1899, but they moved and in 1900 he was in Charlestown, New Hampshire with the family. They are in Johnston, Rhode Island in 1930 and Cook County Illinois by 1940.

 

CHARLES W. (WILLIS) PUTNAM  Amesbury, Essex County

He is 46 MA. His wife Anna B. Miller is 45 PRS. His son Charles N. 19 MA and his nephew Norman O. Miller 19 MA also live with him. He is the son of John Brother Putnam (2369) and Sarah B. Whipple of Peabody. They have been here since the 1890s. They are all here in 1930 and young Charles is married by then.

 

CLARA A. PUTNAM  Andover, Essex County

She is 54 NH. She has a servant Anna J. Chase 57 NH. She is a daughter of James Martin Putnam and Sarah Clark Davis. They were all here in 1910. She and Anna are still here in 1930.

 

ALBERT D. (DANA) PUTNAM  Beverly, Essex County

He is 55 ME. His wife Nellie I. is 56 NY. He is a son of Francis Parker Putnam and Eliza Jane Felt of Rumford, Oxford County Maine. He was home there in 1880, and in 1900. He married Amy Mabel Reed in 1888, but was divorced in the 1900. He and Nellie or Nettie were here in 1910.

 

MARTHA E. PUTNAM  Beverly, Essex County

She is 80 MA and is living with her granddaughter Marion Putnam 26 MA. Martha Claxton was the wife John Henry Putnam (1783) and was also widowed here back in 1900. Marion is a daughter of Edmund Putnam who was here up through the 1910. Guess both folks died or something. Marion will be in New Haven, Connecticut in 1930 as an assistant professor at Yale.

 

AUSTIN H. (HERBERT) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 66 MA and listed under Ada F. Lyford as her brother-in-law. He is the son of Israel Herbert (2021). He was married to Ida Mae Lyford here from the 1870s through 1910. He is here in 1930 too, and then Ida Mae is here too. I guess she is here now in 1920.

 

CARL H. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 25 MA. Florence E. Gibbs 33 MA his wife. Also there is his son Paul E. 1 MA. He is a son of George Osgood and Sarah Putnam and was here with them in 1900. They are here in 1930, except for Paul, but there are two new kids by 1922. Carl was born August 23, 1894 in Danvers and died in Lynn September 6, 1961. Florence was born in Lee Massachusetts October 18, 1866 and died in Peabody May 2, 1958.

 

EARNEST E. (EDWIN) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 39 NH. His wife Julia May Clapp is 41 MA. They have a son Alton H. (Hale) 5 CT.  Ernest is a son of Albro Hale Putnam and Ellen Jane Russell from Hillsborough County New Hampshire. He was born November 22, 1880. The family was in Wilton NH in 1870 and Brookline NH in 1880. They then moved to Townsend, Mass. in the early 1880s and his dad died there April 22, 1883. Ernest married Gertrude Jane Nichols in the late 1890s and they were in Westminster, Mass. in 1900. They then got divorced. He and Julia were in Athol in 1910. Gertrude was in Townsend in 1910 and there with her mother in 1920. They are all in San Diego, California in 1930 where he is a car salesman. Ernest will die in San Diego February 16, 1968. Julie will die there December 23, 1970 and Alton on October 19, 1985.

 

EDWARD C. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 41 MA. He has a wife Eva M. Legro 31 MA, a son Edward C. Jr. 6 MA, and his mother Lydia Prince Putnam 64 MA living with him. He is a son of Edward Augustus Putnam and Lydia G. Prince from here in Danvers. Lydia is also listed with her married daughter Lydia Hayward in Melrose.

 

ELMER O. (OTIS) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 47 MA and his wife Nettie M. Pitman is 44 NS. They have a son Otis F. 21 MA, a boarder Mary K. 20 MA who should be young Otis’ wife, a daughter Lillian F. 15 MA, another daughter Ruth A. 6 MA, and another son Robert E. 6 MA. He is a son of Otis Flint Putnam and Adeline Batchelder, and was born here. Now it’s gonna get confusing in 1930. He will die shortly and Mary will be widowed here in 1930 and is a matron at an old age home. The Mary listed here isn’t their daughter but is probably Otis’ wife. He is missing then too, but Mary is listed as being married and has three kids of her own and all of Elmer’s kids are living with her. Elmer was born here January 13, 1872 and will die shortly on October 6, 1921. Nettie was born in Benton, Yarmouth County Nova Scotia August 7, 1876 and will die here February 23, 1944.

 

GEORGE O. (OSGOOD) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 59 MA. His wife Sarah Butler is 55 MA. Living at home are some of their children. Lewis A. 19 MA, Richard C. 15 MA, Ruth C. 12 MA, and Elizabeth G. 29 MA. He is another son of Otis Flint Putnam and Adeline Batchelder. He is running his father’s ice business. Sarah is wife number two. They were married January 15, 1884. He was married to Elizabeth Williams who died December 28, 1881.

 

HARRIET PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 83 MA and is living at the Danvers Home For The Aged. Harriet Lowell is the widow now of George Putnam (3155). They were together in Manchester, Essex County in 1900.

 

HELEN P. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 55 MA. At home are her sons Raymond G. 19 MA and Preston M. 17 MA. Also there is a boarder Willis Thorp 30 ME. Helen Preston Meldram is now the widow of Webster Fletcher Putnam who died here April 15, 1912. They were here in 1900 and 1910.

 

HENRIETTA M. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 55 MA and is living with Grace H. Putnam 45 MA. They are daughters of Albert Putnam and Louise Restieaux from here in Danvers. They were here with their sister Louise in 1910.

 

HORACE G. (GRANVILLE) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 76 MA. Living with him are his son in law Sidney F. Swinerton 48 MA, his daughter Lena M. Swinerton 47 MA and their children Raymond P. 10 MA and Louise C. 9 MA. He is the son of Orin Putnam, son of Matthew (1993). He was here in 1900 and 1910 with his wife Louise Field Skidmore who has died since then.

 

IDA M. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 66 NH and is living with Ada F. Lyford. Ida Mae Lyford is the widow of Austin Herbert Putnam. They were here in Danvers in 1900.

 

JAMES H. (HERBERT) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 60 MA, his wife Frances Dustin 60 NY. At home is their daughter Harriet D. 32 NY. He is a son James Wellington Putnam (2756) and Harriet Osborne of Danvers. He was here in 1880 and in Worcester in 1900. In 1910 they were in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

 

JAMES H. (HERBERT) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 49 MA and still single. Living with him are his parents James Warren 75 MA and Martha A. Putnam 73 NS. James Warren is the son of William Putnam (3063) from here in Danvers. Martha is widowed here in 1930 still living with her son.

 

JESSIE H. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 43 MA. His brother Charles A. Putnam 40 MA is boarding there as he was in 1910. Also here are farm help John Haroe 34 MA and Jennie Lootman 65 VT. He is a son of John Milton Putnam (1535) and Martha Brown from here. They were all home in Danvers in 1880 and 1900. They are both here in 1930.

 

JOHN F. (FRANKLIN) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 73 MA, his wife Emeline is 67 MA. With them are three daughters, all born in MA: Sarah M. 30, Louise K. 24, and Eunice H. 20. He is a son of John Collins Putnam and Louisa Knight, and has been here all his life. Emeline is his second wife, and they were here in 1900 and 1910. Emeline is widowed here in 1930.

 

LEANDER W. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 51 MA, his wife Laura J. Pike is 52 NF, and his daughter Loretta C. 23 MA is at home. He is the son of James Warren Putnam (the son of William Putnam 3063) and Martha Ann Hinxman. He was born here and is still here in 1930.

 

LUCY PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 60 MA and is living alone. She is John Milton Putnam’s still unmarried daughter. She was home in 1900 and boarding in 1910.

 

LUCY F. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 57 MA and is boarding with Mabel A. Russell. She is an unmarried daughter of Otis F. Putnam from here in Danvers. She was home in 1900.

 

MADELINE L. PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 84 MA and is living with Carrie Woodman 64 MA. Madeline Black is the widow of Alfred Walter Putnam. She was widowed here in 1900 and 1910 as well.

 

MARY PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

She is 62 MA and boarding with Wallace P. Perry. She is a daughter of John Augustus Putnam and Martha Smith. She was born here in Danvers and never married. Wallace Perry is married to her sister Martha. Wallace is a son of Serena Putnam and Horatio Perry. Cousins of sorts.

 

MELVIN B. (BURTON) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 74 MA, his sister Fidelia A. is 69 MA. He is the son of Joel, son of Elias (1775). They were both here together in 1900 and 1910.

 

MILLIE PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 66 ME and is living alone. Molly McPheters is the widow of Franklin Weston Putnam (2084). She was widowed here in 1900 and 1910 and will be in 1930 too.

 

NATHANIEL B. (BUTLER) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 32 MA, his wife Laura R. Gibbs is also 32 MA. Their son Oliver R. is 41/2 MA and daughter Dorothy G. is 1 year 10 months MA. He is a son of George Osgood Putnam and Sarah Butler from here in Danvers. They will have one more son in 1921 and Laura will be here widowed in 1930. Nathaniel was born January 26, 1887 and will die here in 1923.

 

RALPH PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 49 MA and is living with his daughters Isabel 17 MA and Margaret 14 MA. Also boarding there are Adriane White 83 NH, Mary F. Richards 74 MA, and Laura T. Damon 87 MA. He is the son of Franklin Weston (2084). He was married to a Mary from Scotland here in 1900 and 1910. He is widowed here in 1930 too and will be living with his mother Millie.

 

WALLACE P. (PERLEY) PUTNAM  Danvers, Essex County

He is 70 MA, his wife Martha C. Wilkins is 60 MA. Living with them is their son in law C. Eugene Huston 41 MA, their daughter Mabel P. (Putnam) Huston, and their grandchildren Putnam S. Huston 14 NY and Helen P. Huston 10 MA. He is the son of Simeon Putnam (2016). They were here in 1900.

 

ARTEMUS C. PUTNAM  Gloucester, Essex County

He is 31 MA CAN CAN. He is listed under James S. Diggers as his stepson. Their mother Catherine is 56 CAN ENG ENG. Also here is Christina Putnam 32 MA listed as stepdaughter. They and another sister, Ella, were living here in 1900 and 1910. Their father was Artemus C. Putnam from Liverpool Nova Scotia and their mother was Catherine Ferguson.

 

ED M. (MARSHALL) PUTNAM  Haverhill, Essex County

He is 62 NH. He lives with his wife Gertrude Zelma Durant 53 VT and three daughters, Marion G. 24 MA, Pauline 21 MA, and Valerie 18 MA. He is the son of Marshall Putnam (2791) from Croydon, New Hampshire. They were all here in 1900 and 1910. This is the line of Ed Putnam who has done and is doing so much genealogy work on all the various Putnams and Putmans.

 

EUGENE H. (HERMAN) PUTNAM  Haverhill, Essex County

He is 52 NH NH NH and is listed as a boarder under Mary E. Brown. He is a son of Asahel Putnam (#1178). He was at home in Sullivan County New Hampshire in 1870 and 1880. He was married in Lynn in 1900.

 

MARSHALL D. (DURANT) PUTNAM  Haverhill, Essex County

He is 26 MA, his wife Emma Frances Hatch is 26 MA. Their daughter Gwenivere is 5 MA, son Courtland is 2 years 10 months, and Glendon is 11/2 MA. He is a son of Edward Marshall Putnam and Gertrude Durant. He was born here in Haverhill.

 

CAROLINE E. PUTNAM  Lawrence, Essex County

She is 83 NH and is listed as a lodger under Alice Carleton.

 

ARTHUR S. (SHERIDAN) PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 54 MA ENG ENG. His wife Elizabeth E. Armstead 55 MA, a son Harold W. 26 MA and daughter-in-law Sarah L. 21 MA, and a nephew Henry Everett Armstead 31 MA and niece Maude Evelyn Armstead 33 MA all live with him. They are kids of Henry Porter Armstead who was Elizabeth’s brother who died in 1894. The were brought up by Arthur and Elizabeth.  Sarah Lucy Haynes is Harold’s wife. They were married January 31, 1915 in Sudbury. She will die in 1929 so not in the 1930 census. Based on his marriage record we get Arthur’s folks as James Hervey Putnam (3068) and his third wife Ellen (Morris) Whirling and he was born in Salem. Actually he is Arthur Whirling, a son with Ellen’s first husband Edward Whirling. Both were from England. James Hervey Putnam is his stepfather. Arthur changed his name to Putnam when adopted.  They are next door in Swampscott in 1930. Harold is widowed in Reading in 1930.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 50 MA. He lives with his wife Elizabeth Kroen 43 MA. There are also two sons, Ralph (Charles Ralph) 23 MA and Earle 10 MA, and two daughters Dorothy 18 MA and Lillian 13 MA. He is the son of Timothy Felton Putnam, son of Alfred, son of Amos (1766). They were in Peabody in 1900 and Salem in 1910.

 

DEBORAH PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

She is 73 MA. Deborah Ellen Haines is now the widow of Perley Putnam. They were here in Lynn in 1900 and 1910.

 

EARL J. (JOSEPH) PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 24 MA. His wife Gladys P. Waitte is 22 MA. They have a daughter Erma L. 2 2/12 MA. He is a son of Joseph Putnam and Annie Woods. He was home with them here in 1900, and then in 1910 with his mom and stepfather. He married Gladys here in Lynn on January 27, 1917.

 

ERNEST M. (MERRILL) PUTMAN  Lynn, Essex County

He is 54 MA and his wife Carrie M. Olcott is 57 MA. They have a son Clyde H. 31 MA. He is the son of Henry Augustus Putnam and Augusta Shepard. Henry was the son of Luke, son of Gideon (1877). They were in Clinton, Worcester County in 1900 and here ever since. Carrie will die and he will be married to Anne Lewis and be in Peabody by 1930. Clyde was married to Edith Brimmer and is divorced. He will be in Boston in 1930.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 52 ME and boarding. This is George Lauriston Putnam, a son of Lauriston Putnam and Ellen Small of Searsport, Maine. The family moved to Boston by 1870, and his folks were in Malden. George was in Worcester in 1900, and is a doctor. He will be in Miami Beach, Florida in 1935 and 1940. Can’t find him in 1930 though.

 

GEORGE (FRANKLIN) PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 84 MA, his wife Mary Waldron is 79 NH. Also there are their son Herbert 49 NH and his wife Bertha 47 NH. He is the son of Orrin Putnam, who is the son of Matthew (1993).  He is originally from Danvers, then moved to New Hampshire in the 1860s, and was back here by the late 1880s.

 

GEORGETTE PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

She is 69 MA and is boarding with Cordelia Lorendo. She was here in 1900. No idea who she is though.

 

GUY PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 33 MA and is lodging with an unnamed person. He is a son of William and Mary Putnam from Worcester County. He was home there in 1900, and with them in Boston in 1910. He will be married in Swampscott in 1930.

 

HANNAH V. PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

She is 79 MA. Living at home are her children, all born in MA: Louise L. 52, Augusta 50 and Anna M. 48. Hannah Viles Newhall is the widow of Eugene A. Putnam (3160a). They were here in 1900 and she was widowed here in 1910.

 

INEZ G. PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

She is 60 MA MA NH and is living with her widowed sister Emma L. Whipple 49 MA MA NH. She is an unwed daughter of John Pierson and Hannah Putnam of Newburyport. She was at home in the 1880.

 

JOHN G. PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 34 MA, his wife Maude Cora Pierce is 32 MA. He owns a shoe machine shop. He is the son of James Warren Putnam and Martha Ann Hinxman from Danvers. He was home there in 1900. He and Cora were married in Swampscott in 1910.

 

MABEL PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

She is 48 MA and is lodging with an unnamed person.

 

RALPH PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 50 NH, his wife Carrie Whitman is 48 MA. Also there is her brother Joseph Whitman 43 MA. He is the son of George Franklin Putnam, who is the son of Orin, who is the son of Matthew (1993). They were all here in 1900 and 1910.

 

RALPH G. PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 34 MA, his wife Maude M. Hatton is 32 MA, their son Arthur E. is 7 MA, and son Allan G. is 2 months MA. It seems he was first married briefly to Ruth Buxton and they had a daughter here in Lynn on February 20, 1902. He was back with his folks in 1910. He is a son of Arthur and Elizabeth Putnam from here in Lynn. They are in Swampscott by 1930, as are his folks. It’s the next town over, but much nicer and right on the Ocean next to Marblehead where Suzy and I lived when we first came to Massachusetts.

 

SYLVESTER J. PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 63 VT, his wife Abbie is 50 MA. They have one boarder Ida Briggs who is 62 MA. He is a son of Daniel Putnam of Canada and Lucy Hutchins. He was at home in 1860 and 1870 in Brandon, Rutland County Vermont, and was single here in 1900. He was married to Catherine Noonan in New Bedford in 1881 and then she died there in 1891. His folks were in Vermont in 1900, but were here with him in 1910.

 

WILLIAM O. (ORRIN) PUTNAM  Lynn, Essex County

He is 39 NH, and his wife Helen M. Gale is 33 MA. They also have one boarder. He is a son of George Franklin Putnam and Marianna Waldron. He is 46 MA, his wife Susan E. Clark is 50 MA, and son Percy A. is 27 MA. Also there is his father in law Joseph P. Clark 69 MA and a boarder William F. Merritt 52 MA. They were here in 1900 and 1910, and he was from Danvers before that. They are all here in 1930 living with Percy who is married by then.

 

RALPH C. PUTNAM  JR.  Marblehead, Essex County

He is 28 MA, his wife Florence is 32 MA, and their daughters are Ruth A. 10 MA and Carolyn C. 9 MA. He is a son of Ralph and Susan Putnam. He was at home here in 1900 and just married here in 1910 and still here in 1930.

 

GEORGE T. PUTNAM  Merrimac, Essex County

His 69 MA MA MA and is boarding with Burton R. Rice. He works at an automobile factory. He is a son of Jefferson Putnam and Judith Lampher of Peabody. He was home in 1880. He was here with wife number three, Nellie Chick Goodman, in 1910, and I guess that one didn’t work out either. He will die here in 1922.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Methuen, Essex County

He is 53 NH, wife Julia A. is 54 MA, and their daughter Ruth is 20 MA. He is a son of William Dinsmore Putnam (2610) and Elmira Sartwell from Sullivan County New Hampshire. He was home there in 1870 and 1880 and married to Alice Temple in 1900 and 1910 in Lebanon, Graftton County New Hampshire. He was born July 16, 1866 in Charlestown, New Hampshire. Alice died in Lebanon, New Hampshire March 25, 1916. Ruth would be a daughter of Julia’s prior marriage. He is widowed back in Lebanon in 1930 and 1940.

 

AUSTIN F. PUTNAM  Middleton, Essex County

He is 44 MA and lives alone. He is a son of Edward Austin Putnam and Adeline Augusta Dodge. He married Grace Augusta Potter in 1897, but was back home in Beverly in 1900 and missing in 1910. He is married in Danvers in 1930.

She is 58 MA and is a patient at the Middleton Colony (Danvers State Hospital). She was here in 1900 and 1910 as well. She looks to be the daughter of Edward Putnam and Lydia Davis from Lowell.

She is 83 MA. She is an aunt of and is listed under Bernish F. Gerrish. Ann Maria Newman is the widow of Francis Wiley Putnam (2409). She was here Beniah Gerrish (same guy) in 1900.

He is 78 NH and is living at the Newburyport City Farm.

 

WALLACE J. PUTNAM  Newburyport, Essex County

He is 23 MA and is living with Lyndon Blake. He is a son Clarence Leroy Putnam and Ellen Corey from here. He was at home with them in 1900. In 1910 he was with his mother Ellen who had married Lyndon Blake in 1904, and they were all in Kittery, Maine in 1910. He was also listed here with her father James Corey in 1910. He will be married by 1930 and be in Charleston, West Virginia working as a chemist in a chemical plant there.

 

EDGAR PUTNAM  North Andover, Essex County

He is 53 VT and is enumerated under his brother-in-law Fred Cleveland. Fred is married to his sister Cora. He is a son of Orrin and Ellen Putnam from Springfield Vermont. He was home there in 1870 and Pembroke New Hampshire in 1880. He was in Manchester New Hampshire in 1900 and 1910. He is in Weare, Hillsborough County New Hampshire in 1930. He never married.

 

WALTER T. PUTNAM  North Andover, Essex County

He is 39 VT. His wife Ruth is 38 VT, and their daughters Ardis 15 MA and Ruth M. 8 MA are living at home. He was indexed as Wallace, but Walter is the right name. He is a son of Timothy Marble Putnam and Sarah Ann Gould from Springfield, Windsor County Vermont. He was still at home there in 1900. He was here in 1910 and will be in 1930.

 

AGNES PUTNAM  Peabody, Essex County

Agnes Steele is 79 CND. Her son Walter F. Putnam 50 MA is listed with her. She is the widow of Timothy Felton Putnam, who is the son of Alfred, who is the son of Amos (1766). She has been widowed here since the 1870s. Walter will still be here and single in 1930.

 

ANGIE C. PUTNAM  Peabody, Essex County

Angie Duncan is 57 ME. Her son Carl W. is 24 MA. She now seems to be the ex-wife of Clarence Sylvester Putnam. They were in Salem in 1900, and divorced there in 1910. Clarence is now living in Salem with his mother Mary Crosby Putnam. Carl will be married in a year and go out to Utah and be there in 1930.

He is 43 MA. His wife Alice M. Galemia is 39 MA. There is also a son Harold P. 19 MA and a daughter Frances L. 11 MA. He is the son of James L., who is the son of Jefferson (2285). He has been married here since 1897.

He is 37 MA. His wife Alice Jung is 25 NY. They have a son Harold E. 3 1/12 MA and a daughter Hilda 11/2 MA.  He is Everett Whipple Putnam  a son of John Brothers Putnam and Sarah B. Whipple from here in Peabody. He was born here May 30, 1881. His father John Putman 87 MA also lives with them.

He is 71 MA, his wife Eliza Peabody is 72 MA. At home is their son James L. Jr. 48 MA. He is the son of Jefferson Putnam (2285). They have been here all their lives.

He is 43 MA, his wife Feronia C. is 35 MA, and his son Earl L. is 16 MA. Also living there is his mother Ella J. Putnam, she is 62 MA. Also listed is his grandfather, Joseph M. Larabee 86 MA. He is a son of Louis Kossuth Putnam and Ellen Jane Larabee. They were here in 1880, 1900 and in 1910.

 

LEWIS W. (WILLIAM) PUTNAM  Peabody, Essex County

He is 53 MA, his wife Julia A. is 47 ENG. Their daughter Edna M. is 21 MA and Lewis’ brother Charles Ottawell Putnam 46 MA is with them. Boarding with them is Flora M. Slattery 16 MA. He is William Lewis, son of James Warren Putnam from Danvers. They were here in 1910 and in Salem in 1900, and will still be here in 1930. His brother Charles will also be here and finally married. Lewis and Charles own Putnam Brothers Milk Company.

 

ALFRED W. (WHITWELL) PUTNAM  Salem, Essex County

He is 49 NY. His wife Rebecca Crowningshield is 44 MA. His daughter Katherine is 17 MA and his son Alfred P. 13 MA. He is a son of Alfred Porter Putnam and Eliza King Buttrick of Salem. The family was in Brooklyn, New York in 1880, and that was where he was born. The family was back here by 1900, and he was with them then and married here in 1910. They are here in 1930.

She is 74 MA. She is a boarder listed under Sarah E. Farnsworth. She is the daughter of Henry Flint Putnam (1528).  She never married, and was with her uncle Calvin in 1900.

He is 68 MA, his wife Hattie Kinsman is 53 MA. He is a son of John Preston Putnam and Helen Alden. He has been here all his life, but just married Hattie about 1900-1901.

She is 64 MA and is living with her son in law Constantine Moustakis. Martha Westcott is the wife of Charles H. Putnam from Salem. They were all here in 1910. There is no wife listed on the entry, so don’t know which one Constantine married. Charles is presently up in Dover, New Hampshire with their married daughter Doris Nichols.

She is 82 CAN, her son Clarence is 59 MA. Mary Ann Crosby is the widow of Charles Orin Putnam of Danvers. Her son Clarence was married to Angie Duncan here in Salem in 1900, but they were divorced by 1910. Angie and the kids are living in Peabody right now.

She is 65 MA and is lodging with Lydia A. Dennis. She should be Susan Agnes Putnam, daughter of Thomas Meady Putnam and Eunice Cram of Danvers. She was at home in 1880, and I don’t find her in 1900.

 

CONSTANCE PUTNAM  Saugus, Essex County

She is 11 MA and is listed under Frank Sloan 46 VT as his stepdaughter. Her mother Emily is 50 PA. Emily Oliver was the wife of Marion Victor Putnam from here. They were together in 1900 and 1910. Don’t know when he died. Emily was his second wife. Marion first married her sister Lillian who died in 1890.

 

LUCINDA (LAVINIA) PUTNAM  Saugus, Essex County

She is 53 CAN, her daughter Lillian is 29 MA, and her son Charles is 26 MA. Lavinia Parsons is the widow of Charles E. Putnam. She was spelled as Lavinia back in 1900 and 1910 and will be in 1930.

 

WALTER E. (EBEN) PUTNAM  Saugus, Essex County

He is 48 MA, his wife Margaret A. is 34 MA, their daughter Marion A. is 5 MA, and their son Walter T. is 3 1/4 MA. He is a son of Franklin Weston Putnam (2084) and his first wife Mary Wilson Southwick. Mary died in giving birth to him on July 16, 1871. He was with his widowed stepmother Millie McPheters in Danvers in 1900 and single here in 1910. He and the family will be in Lynn by 1930.

He is 44 MA, his wife is Susan 41 MA, their son Ralph is 20 MA, son Gordon is 15 MA, daughter May is 13 MA. Walter's mother Mary E. (Gentlee) Putnam 86 MA is at home with her son as is Jesse Putnam 51 MA, another son. Also listed is Mike Sherlock 50 and is at sea. Walter is a son of Asa Tapley Putnam from Lynnfield. Walter and Jesse are all here in 1930.

He is 49 MA, Bertha Franklin 44 VT and Robert F. 9 MA. He is the son of Israel junior, son of Israel Putnam (1347). He was born here and was here with Bertha in 1900 and 1910. They are here in 1930 too.

 

ELBRIDGE PUTNAM  Deerfield, Franklin County

He is 53 OH VT VT, and boarding with Edward Fairbanks, his brother in law. See Elmer E. below. They are sons of Elbridge Putnam and Emily Melandy from Deerfield. They were born while the folks were in Cleveland, Ohio in the 1860s.

He is 56 OH VT VT and is enumerated under his brother-in-law Edward C. Fairbanks. See his brother Eldridge above. Edward Fairbanks married their sister Elsie M. Putnam 55 OH VT VT. All three were here in Deerfield in 1900 and 1910 and will be in 1930.

He is 47 MA and his wife Jessie M. is 46 MA. His son Bernard H. 19 MA and his wife Clara 23 MA live with him. There will be a divorce and Bernie and 2 kids are here with his folks in 1930.There is also a lodger Bernice Carpenter 22 MA. They were here in 1900. He is another son of Israel Putnam junior, son of Israel Putnam (1347).

He is 18 VT and is enumerated under Alfred W. Couter as a lodger. He was with an uncle Cranston Dix in Whittingham, Vermont in 1910. He is married in Springfield in 1930. He was a son of Charles Edward Putnam and Lora Kentfield from Whitingham. See the 1910 entry, I kinda guess and explain it there.

He is 46 VT, his wife Ida N. is 43 MA. At home is their son Edward E. 24 VT. He is a son of Edward E. and Lucy Putnam from Jacksonville, Windham County Vermont. He and Ida were there in the 1900.

He is 48 MA, his wife Kate M. Taylor is also 48 MA. At home with them are their children: Ernest T. 21 CT, Aimee 19 CT, Ruth E. 16 CT, Katherine E. 13 CT, Richard E. 8 CT, and Paul S. 3 MA. He is a son of Henry Wellington and Abbie Putnam from Sutton, Worcester County. He was at home there in 1880, and in Litchfield, Connecticut in 1900 and 1910. He will have a new younger wife here in 1930 and a son just born then.

 

EMERSON S. (SANFORD) PUTNAM  Northfield, Franklin County

He is 74 VT. He has a roomer James F. Deber 57 MA. He is a son of Harrison and Emeline Putnam from Cambridge, Lamoille County Vermont. He was home there in 1850, 1860, and 1870. In 1880 there were some kids in Cambridge that may have been his in a first marriage. I don’t find him in 1900, but in 1910 he is in Windham County Vermont with his second wife of 4 years, Annie from Canada East. What looks like his first wife was from Canada too. He may well have been up there in that 40 year ‘void.’

She is 65 MA and has one boarder Lizzie Whittier 64 ME. She is Harriet Beecher Haskell the widow of Willard Putnam. She was his third wife and they were in New Salem in 1910. She is widowed here still in 1930.

He is 73 MA and is living with his son in law Charles L. Gray. He is the son of Danforth, son of William Putnam (1819). He was married to Mary Jane Parker here in 1900.

 

PERCY A. (ABRAHAM) PUTNAM  Orange, Franklin County

He is 46 MA, his wife Carrie Harris is 44 MA. Son A. Percy Jr. is 21 MA and is living at home. Also there is his mother Catherine 80 VT. He is a son of Abraham Pierce Putnam and Catherine S. Britt from here. They were all at home in 1900, and Catherine was widowed here in 1910. Everyone is here in 1930, even Catherine. Percy Junior is married then too.

He is 48 VT, and his wife Louise M. is 38 CAN. He is the son of Erwin Levi Putnam of Wardsboro, Vermont, son of Levi, son of Levi (598). He was single here in 1900 and married in 1910. Louise is widowed here in 1930.

She is 60 MA living alone. She was here in 1900 divorced and living with her mother Phebe Harris. She had two kids in 1900 that are gone now. She was married to Charles A. Putnam, son of Hiram Putnam and Mary Small from Wolcott, Vermont and then Ashburnham, Mass. Charles is currently remarried in Athol, Mass. and has been since 1900.

He is 53 MA. His sister Julia E. Chase 64 MA lives with him. He is a son of Stillman Holden Putnam and Abigail Hammond from here. He was home in 1900 with his folks and this sister.

She is 7 MA, he is 5 MA, and they are living with their aunts Katherine Murphy 57 MA and Margaret Murphy 51 MA and Anna Vedaman a widow 54 MA.They are kids of Albert Putnam and his second wife whose name I don’t have. Albert is with a sister Jessie in Springfield now. His mother is Mary Murphy and these are her sisters. Albert will have yet another wife Gladys by 1930 and they are in Springfield and Edward is with them then. In 1930 Gertrude is still here with Margaret.

He is 50 VT, his wife Frances Augusta is 45 MA. At home are sons William Frank 16 VT and Harry Jr. 10 VT. The sons were actually born in MA. Also here is a widowed aunt Sarah F. Richardson 65 MA, who was with them in 1910. He is a son of John Henry Putnam (#2825) and Alice Augusta Eddy. He was born in Grafton Vermont January 23, 1868. He was here single in 1900 and married in 1910.

He is 22 MA and is listed as a “partner” with Francis M. Mitchell. Also here are his wife Anna B. 24 MA, son Ronald F. Jr. 2 3/12 MA, and daughter Dolores 11/12 MA. He is a son of Merton J. and Mary Putnam. He was at home in Springfield in 1900.

She is 23 MA. She is listed under Harry C. Martin as his niece. She is a daughter of Elmer and Marian Putnam from Worcester County. She was home with them in 1900.

 

JOHN R. PUTNAM  Longmeadow, Hampden County

He is 80 NY and is living with his daughter Anna M. 46 PA. In 1880, he was married to a Julia in Montgomery County Pennsylvania. He also spelled his name Puttman then. He was also listed in Troy New York in 1880 with the same kids and a different wife Cornelia Murdock. I can’t find him in 1900, but he was married here in Springfield to Cornelia. He is here in 1930 at age 91.

 

ARLETTA M. PUTNAM  Palmer, Hampden County

She is 57 VT VT VT and single. There is a lodger Carrie Hawkes 52 MA. She is a daughter of Jonas Putnam and Mary Ann Rowe from Windsor County Vermont. She was there with her dad in 1880 and I haven’t seen her until she popped up here living with her sister Sarah Ferry in 1910.

 

ADA K. (KENDALL) PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

She is 48 MA. She is with her sister Grace 30 MA and her husband Melville B. Chase. They are daughters of Henry Eliphalet Putnam and Mary Eliza Cook and are home in Lynn in 1910.

 

ANNA L. PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

She is 62 MA. She has her cousin Harriett E. Brown 77 MA living with her. She is the daughter of Thomas Putnam and Harriet Blood from here. She was here with some of her sisters in 1900. Guess she never married.

 

EDNA PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

Emma is 76 MA. There is a lodger, Florence Graves 45 MA. In 1870, she was here married to Julius Putnam. She has been divorced here since 1880.  Julius was in New Hampshire in 1910 and that is the only time since 1870 that I have seen him. He said then that he was still married though.

He is 52 NH. His wife Ethel S. Hunt is 50 NH. Their daughter Dorothy M. Campbell 20 MA, his son-in-law Royal B. Campbell 22 MA and a nephew Curtis Albert McMahon 18 NH live with him also. Curtis is a son of his sister Lucy who married Thomas James McMahon in 1889.He is number 2517, son of Benjamin Willard Putnam (1138) of Charlestown, NH. They were here in 1900 and 1910 as well and will be in 1930.

 

EMMA PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

She is 52 MA. Her daughter Lillian is 24 MA. Emma Sisson is the wife of Clesson Wellington Putnam. They were all in Holyoke in 1900. What looks like her husband Clesson is currently in Groton, Connecticut married to Alice Loring Bailey, his second wife. Looks like a divorce. Clesson and Alice will be back up in Quincy Mass. by 1930. Emma will still be here in Springfield in 1930.

 

EVERETT PUTMAN  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 49 VT and his wife Mary Holland is 43 MA. They have one daughter Hazel 18 MA. He is a son of George Washington Putnam and Selina Plimpton from Wardsboro, Windham County Vermont. He was there with his widowed mother in 1880, and here with her in 1900. He was here married to Mary in 1910. They are here in 1930. The daughter Hazel will be a public school teacher in Passaic, New Jersey in 1930.

 

FRANCIS PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 32 RI, Emily Louisa Ward 27 ENG. They were married September 16, 1914 back in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Also there are his brother Howard 23 RI, sisters Dorothy 20 RI and Sylvia 29 RI. They are kids of Edwin and Addie Putnam. They were in Woonsocket, Rhode Island in 1900 and 1910. They are in Wilbraham in 1930.

 

HALDEMAND S. (SUMNER) PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 49 OH, his wife Lillian F. is 35 VT. Also at home are children, all born in MA: Marjorie J. 16, Haldemand S. Jr. 14, and Carlton F. 11. See NH 1880. He is a son of Samuel and Antoinette Putnam from Cornish, Sullivan County NH. Sam was from there, but went to Ohio in the late 1860s, married Antoinette there and then was back in NH by the 1880 census. Haldemand was named for his father's brother who was a hero in the Civil War. They were here in 1910, and are in nearby East Longmeadow in 1930.

He is 55 MA, his wife Annie Fidelia Oakes is 51 MA. He is the son of Danforth Putnam and Susan Fiske. They were in Orange in 1900 and here in 1910.

 

JESSIE & ALBERT PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

She is 39 MA. She is boarding with her brother Albert F. Putnam 33 MA. They are children of Daniel Putnam and Mary Murphy. The family was in Orange in 1880 and Athol in 1900. Albert had married Annie Gran in 1907 and she died here in 1908. He then must have had another wife as he has two kids ages 5 & 7 who are in Agawam now living with aunts Katherine Murphy and Margaret Murphy who are Albert’s mother’s sisters. He will have yet a new wife Gladys and be here in 1930. At that time the son Edward, then 15, will be with them, and the other child Gertrude will still be with Margaret Murphy in 1930.

She is 27 MA and is living alone. Somebody’s ex.

 

MORRIS W. (WINTER)  PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 42 NH, Mabel E. 42 is also 42 NH. There are Vernon (Pillsbury) an adopted son 20 NH, and his daughter Ethel 11 NH. Morris Winter Putnam is a son of Otis Winter Putnam and Lucy C. Russell from Croydon, Sullivan County New Hampshire. He was born in Croydon February 11, 1876 and will die March 3, 1966 in Bellows Falls, Windham County Vermont. He was home there in 1880 and in 1900. Mabel is a daughter of Oren S. Hastings and Mary L. Davis, and was born in Antrim, Hillsborough County New Hampshire May 4, 1870 and was married to and then divorced Ben Pillsbury who has remarried to Sadie Pecor, Mabel will die in 1929 and Morris is widowed here in 1930.

 

ROGER L. (LOWELL) PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 26 MA, his wife Caroline Piatt Jenkins is 27 MD. Also living there is a maid. He is a son of William Lowell Putnam and Elizabeth Lowell. He was at home in Boston in 1900.

 

RUFUS PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 39 MA, his wife Louise is 35 MA, Thelma is 15 MA, their son Edwin is 13 MA, daughter Barbara is 9 MA, son Richard is 7 MA, and daughter Jean is 1 3/12 MA. He is a manager in a milk company. Rufus Edwin is a son of Alfred S. Putnam and Alice Augusta Paine. He was at home with them here in Springfield in 1900 and 1910, and in Ludlow in 1880 where he was born. In 1910 he was married to Edith Florence Porter who died of influenza here in November 1918. Louise is a new wife. They have been married 1 year. He initially married her to take care of the kids, but they fell in love and were married a long time. A descendant has a copy of their 25th Anniversary Photo. They are here in 1930.

 

SUSAN G. PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

She is 42 MA and is living with her brother in law Charles C. Hubbard. Also here are her daughters Sylvia 7 MA and Shirley 5 MA. She and the kids are here in 1930. No ideas as to her husband.

 

THOMAS J. (JOHN) PUTNAM  Springfield, Hampden County

He is 68 CAN CAN CAN and his wife Emma Kate Hayes is 63 NY. He is a physician in his own general practice. He is Thomas John Putnam, number 2546, a son of Thomas Putnam (1144) and Mary Harris of Putnam, Ontario. They were in Pittsburgh in 1880 and in North Adams, Mass. in 1900. They were here in 1910 and are still in 1930.

Her dad was a son of George Palmer Putnam, the book publisher from New York City. Her dad died in North Adams, Massachusetts October 12, 1886 and her mother in Jamestown, Rhode Island October 2, 1900. Mary was born on May 8, 1887. She was in Manhattan, New York in 1910 and will be there again in 1930. She lives near her brother Worcester (see that listing below). New England family.

He is 46 NY NY MA, his wife Helen Armington is 36 RI, and their son Charles is 2 1/2 MA. They are in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1930. He is a public accountant. He is a son of Bayard Taylor Putnam and Grace Sanderson Thatcher. He was born October 17, 1883. His dad was a son of George Palmer Putnam, the book publisher from New York City. His dad died in North Adams, Massachusetts October 12, 1886 and his mother in Jamestown, Rhode Island October 2, 1900. I don’t find him before this, but he would be around Massachusetts someplace. Helen is a daughter of Charles Fuller Armington and Sarah Randall. They are in the 1945 State Census of Pinellas County Florida. He is a public accountant 61 NY, Helen 61 RI, Charles W. 27 MA is in the service then. They are in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1930. Worcester died in St. Petersburg, Pinellas in May 1957, Helen in 1967.

He is 39 MA MA MA and divorced. He is listed as a lodger under Frank R. Girdler. He is a leather worker in a shoe factory. He is a son of James Josiah Putnam and Mary Jane Parker from Orange, Franklin County, and was born in Greenfield, Franklin County January 26, 1877. He was at home in Orange in 1880 and 1900. He married Florence Elizabeth Jerome June 27, 1900 in Orange. I can’t find them in 1910, but they are divorced now. Florence will die in Worcester in 1924. He will marry Amy Wheeler Trumbull here in Framingham in 1925 and they are here in 1930 and 1940.

She is 67 NH and is listed under Frederick C. Bishop as his mother-in-law. She is Eldora Tarbell, wife or probably widow of William Jacob Putnam of Nashua, New Hampshire. Her daughter Dora Arlene 42 NH has married Frederick Bishop. Mom and daughter were home with William in 1900.

He claimed that he was born in Fort Casey, Washington so I don't know what to make of the data here. He will be here in Malden through the 1960. He will marry Marion Rendall in 1933 and have a son Frederic L. in 1941. He will die in the late summer of 1963.

She is 42 DC and is living with her father William Orlando Harris. Her son Melville Putnam is listed above. In the Harris family record it states that Myrtie was born in Lowell, Mass. so I don't know what to make of the data above. She is the widow of Major Alfred B. Putnam who died of Malaria in Little Rock, Arkansas 1915. That makes it two tragedies to come out of Little Rock, Arkansas in the 20th Century! Myrtie will be here in Malden through the 1950 and will die here in 1955.

They were divorced there in 1910 and he must have married Isabelle around 1913. They are in Jonesport, Washington County Maine in 1930 and he is a lobster broker at that point. They were in Peabody, Mass. in 1870 and they all were in Union County New Jersey in 1900. They were back here in Melrose in 1910. His folks were in Reading in 1910.

He is 29 NH. His wife Louise Bidwell Taylor is 28 NY. He has a son David F. (Frederick) 5 MA and a daughter Elizabeth A. 11/12 MA. He also has as a servant Marguerite F. Swain 36 MA. He is a son of Fred Asahel Putnam and Maud Adams. He was born back in Rockingham County New Hampshire, and here with the family in Melrose in 1900. He and the family are in Keene, New Hampshire by 1930.

He is 52 MA, Mary P. Gould, his wife, 56 MA. Her mother Mary E. Gould 77 MA is with them. They have a nurse, a domestic, and a chauffer living here too. He is the son of Henry Locke Putnam (2405) from Malden. They were here in 1900 and 1910 as well and will be in 1930.

She is 64 MA and is living with her son in law Josiah P. Haywood and her daughter Lydia Hayward. She is Lydia J. Prince widow of Edward Augustus Putnam of Danvers. She is also listed back there with her son Edward.

 

OTIS PUTNAM  Melrose, Middlesex County

He is 55 MA, his wife Ruth Burnham is 29 MA. Her mother Martha Burnham 66 MA is living with them. This is Otis Chandler Putnam. He is a salesman of religious books and is now living with his third wife. His second wife Eliza Raymond died during the Influenza Epidemic in 1917. He married Ruth in 1919. There will be no children. This line goes back Otis Chandler > Henry Locke > Joseph > Billings > Henry > Eleazer > John > John. He will live here in Melrose until his death in 1954. He is best remembered for having an enormous stamp collection.

He is 56 NH, his wife Harriet J. Freeman is 50 MA. At home are their children, all born in MA: Amos A. 25, Frederick H. 23, Lena M. 22, Louisa A. L. 19, Anna M. W. 19, Melvin R. 15, Eunice W. 12, and Elizabeth J. 10. He is the son of Amos Adams Putnam (son of Amos Adams (1759) from Winchester, New Hampshire) and Nancy Robbins. They were here in 1910 and in Sherborn in 1900. George is widowed here in 1930.

 

ELLEN H. PUTNAM  Newton, Middlesex County

She is 66 MA and lives with her sister Elizabeth Folger 81 MA. She is Ellen Heywood Whitney, widow of George Edwin Ballard Putnam who just died here December 11, 1919. They were here in 1900 and 1910. Ellen and her sister Lizzie will move to Roslindale soon and she will die of a stroke on October 18, 1929.

He is 45 NH, Flora W. Towle 44 MA, Frank W. Jr. 14 MA, E. Everett 7 MA. Also there is his mother Adelaide M. Putnam 77 VT. They have an Irish servant. He is a son of Uzziel Putnam and Adelaide Medora Woodbury of Boston. He was indeed born in New Hampshire, as shown in the 1880 census. He has been a physician here for some 20 years and will be here in 1930.

She is 77 VT and is listed with her daughter Marietta Reid 49 MA. Mary Arlette Clark is the widow now of Nathan Augustus Putnam. They were in Boston in 1900. She will be in Claremont New Hampshire in 1930 and be living with her married daughter Alice Prescott.

Nettie Fleming is the widow of Albert E. Putnam. She was widowed here in 1900 and 1910 as well. 53 MA and is living with her son Reginald F. is 24 MA. Also there is her sister Carrie Fleming 44 MA, as well as two servants. Carrie was with her in 1910 as well.

He is 46 MA, his wife Louise Pennockis 40 MA. He is George Nolan Putnam, son of Nathaniel Putnam and Therza Huntington of Newton. He has been here most of his life, and was single here with his widowed mother in 1900 and 1910. He and Louise are here in 1930 and 1940.

He is 37 MA, his wife Elizabeth G. Wonson is 24 MA. Also living there is his mother Phebe E. Perkins 68 ME and his brother Laurence T. 35 MA. Paul is a son of Samuel Phillips and Phebe Putnam. They were all here in Newton in 1900. Paul was married to a Mildred in New York City in 1910. Elizabeth would be a second wife and they have been married a year according to the 1930 when they are in Arlington. Phoebe and Lawrence are here in 1930.

Royal Leo Putnam is 41 MA, his wife Estelle is 38 MA. Also living there is his mother Annie Putnam 74 ME. He is a son of Daniel Francis Putnam (2952) and his second wife Annie Whittier. He was born when the family lived in Hopkinton. They were all in Malden in 1900 and here in 1910.

He is 67 MA, his wife is Minnie Fowle 59 MA. Also at home is their son Raymond 23 MA. He is the son of Henry Putnam, grandson of Joshua Putnam (2089) of Reading, and Boston before that. He was born here in Reading. They were here in 1900 and 1910. They are here in 1930 and Raymond has his own family going then.

He is 59 (63) MA, his wife Eliza is 56 (66) MA. The ages are screwed up, but he is a son of Jacob D. Putnam and Eliza Clough from Lyndeborough, New Hampshire. He was born in Lowell, Mass. and was with his folks there in 1880. He was married in Boston in 1900, and was here in 1910. Eliza is widowed here in 1930.

He is 50 MA, his wife Edith B. Gleason is 45 MA. At home are son James T. 18 MA and daughter Edith M. 14 MA. He is the son of Daniel, son of George, son of Israel (877). They were here in 1900 and 1910. They are here in 1930 and both sons are married then.

He is 53 NH, his wife Elizabeth Roach is 40 CAN. They were in Medford in 1900 and are here in 1930 and 1940. According to their 1897 marriage record his parents were John H. and Mary Putnam and he was born in Charlestown, New Hampshire. Elizabeth was a daughter of James and Catherine Roach from Prince Edward Island.

She is 61 MA and says she is married. She is boarding with Samuel C. Trull. Ida C. Morse has been married to Wilmot Scipio Putnam and were in Dedham in 1910. They are currently separated it seems. He is alone in Boston now and says he is single. However, they will get back together and be together here in Stoneham in 1930. They will both be living with Samuel Trull who will be 92 then.

She is 49 MA. She has two sons Arthur 19 MA and Herbert 8 MA, and two daughters Velma 14 MA and Alice 12 MA. Ellen Mitchell is the ex-wife of Jesse Putnam from Ipswich in 1900 and Lynnfield in 1910. The following / and Willard are their kids. Jesse is currently in Wenham living with his mother Mary Putnam. Divorced I guess.

He is 41 NH, his wife is Alice B. Staples 38 MA. At home are their sons Hamilton S. 9 NH and Dexter N. 31/2 MA. He is a son of William Putnam and Ella Gray of Wilton, New Hampshire. He was home there in 1900 and married there in 1910. He must have moved down here in the past few years. Alice is widowed with the two kids back up in Lyndeborough New Hampshire in 1930. Also Hamilton might be his middle name, but most think Henry.

 

PERLEY T. PUTNAM  Wakefield, Middlesex County

He is 30 MA, his wife Ethelyn Chandler L. is 22 MA, daughter Dorothy T. is 7 MA, son Perley E. is 2 MA, and daughter Elsie M. is 5 months MA. Also there is his brother Willard A. 23 MA, his wife Florence Marie Chandler 20 MA, and their daughter Eleanor L. 1 1/2 MA. These guys are sons of Jesse and the earlier listed Ella Putnam. They were in Lynnfield in 1910. Perley will have a new wife Ethel Greenfield, and be back in Lynnfield by 1930. Ethelyn will have the kids and be married to Herbert Buttrick here in 1930. Also Willard and Florence will split or something as she will be married to Ernest Buttrick and be living next door to Herb and Evelyn. Interesting. Then in thinking about it Ethel was married to Herbert Buttrick. They are indeed in Wakefield in 1920 with the two kids. This turns out to be a case of two couples switching spouses. In each case the mom took her kids to the new household. Even more interesting.

He is 40 MA and his wife Martha L. Day is 39 CAN. They are living in a lodging house on Winchester Street. He is a son of Edward Beecher Putnam and Sarah Beeching. He was born in Boston March 23, 1879 and was with the family in Ripon, Fond du Lac County Wisconsin in 1880 and in Jackson County Illinois in 1900. He married Martha here in Brookline September 10, 1913. I can’t find him in 1910 or in 1930.

He is 30 MA, his wife Laura V. Diehl is 30 MA. Milo Amasa Putnam is a son of Wilmot Putnam and Ida Morse. He was here in Dedham with them in 1910. Looks like his folks ‘split up.’ His mom is in Stoneham and his dad is back in Boston by himself. The folks are back together in Stoneham by 1930 though. I don’t find these folks in 1930, but Milo will die August 17, 1967 in Riverside County California. He will be buried along with Laura beside his folks in Rock Hill Cemetery, Foxboro Massachusetts.

 

WILLIAM H. (HAMMOND) PUTNAM  Medfield, Norfolk County

He is 44 MA, his wife Carrie B. Hamilton is 42 ME, their son William Hammond Junior is 23 MA, son Clesson R. is 8 NY, son Hamilton is 6 NY, son Carolus is 4 NY, son Quinton S. is 2 NY, and daughter Isabelle W. is 6/12 NY. He is the son of Nathan Bond, son of William (1819).  They were in Worcester in 1900 and in the Bronx in New York in 1910. They are in Quincy Mass in 1930.

He is 41 MA and his wife Rita (Marguerita Sumner) is 43 MA. They have three sons Henry 14 MA, Elliot 11 MA, and Sumner 10 MA. They also have a nephew John Sumner 16 MA and two servants living with them. He is the son of Henry Ware Putnam (3157) and Florence Thwing of Boston. He was single in Cambridge in 1900, and married Marguerita there in 1903. They were in Hingham in 1910. The son Henry was actually born in France. Elliot was studying architecture there at the time. They are all here in 1930.

He is 61 MA. His wife Mary Bird McIntosh is 42 MA. His mother-in-law Abby M. McIntosh 71 MA also lives with him and they all will be in Quincy in 1930. He is the son of Flavius Joseph Putnam and Sylvia Bissell. He was shown in Windsor Locks Connecticut in 1850, and in Ludlow, Hampden County in 1870. He was married to his first wife Addie Bacon in Woonsocket, Rhode Island in 1900 and 1910. They were married in the 1880s in Massachusetts. Now in 1920, all the kids are in Springfield, but no mom. He married Mary in 1917. He is a conductor on the railroad now and still will be in 1930.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Norwood, Norfolk County

He is 61 MA and is listed under Margaret Schepmoes as her lodger. He looks to be Charles Henry Putnam, son of William Henry Putnam. He was in Boston in 1900, and boarding with this gal in 1910.

She is listed as 39 MA. Her daughter Doris May is 9 MA. Her son Gordon W. is 3 9/12 MA. She has two lodgers, Annie G. Lawford 55, and Marion Pettengill 12 both born in MA. They are in Brielle, New Jersey in 1930 and in Atlantic City in 1940. In 1940 Doris is married and Georgia is listed as an aunt not a mother. She will have another son Ralph born in 1920, which is strange. Even Annie Lawford will be with her then and same in 1940. She is Georgia Ada Putnam, daughter of Charles Wadsworth Putnam and Caroline J. Harrier (at home in Philadelphia in 1900).  She married John Putnam on February 14, 1910.  According to Eben this John was from Oskeewa, ME.  I don’t know who he belongs to.

He is 37 NH. His wife Lila R. is 37 MA. He was in the Navy in the Philippines in 1900. He was born in Lisbon, Grafton County New Hampshire. His folks were Milton G. Putnam and Jennie L. Welch from there. Milton’s folks were John C. Putnam and Mehitable Jane Weston from Lisbon. They were here in 1910. They are here in 1930.

This is the Eben Putnam who wrote the 1907 and 1908 books on the History of the Putnam Family, and the guy that assigned all these numbers to most of these folks. He married Florence here in 1890, and then went to Burlington, Vermont about 1898 working for a publishing company. He then went back to Salem around 1905 and got his books together. They were here in Wellesley in 1910 and will be in 1930. He is a son of Frederick Ward Putnam and Adelaide Edmands of Salem and then Cambridge. He was born in Salem October 10, 1868. He presently works as treasurer for the Amador California Gold Mining Company. His dad was a professor at Harvard University.

He is Arthur Percival Putnam, son of John Howard Putnam from Revere who was a son of Ebenezer Putnam (2382). Arthur was in Medford in 1900 and was then married to Ethel Brown. He was in Boston with Mary in 1910. They are in Reading Mass. in 1930.

He is 55 MA and his wife Isabelle S. Kerr is 59 MA. He is the son of John Howard and Antoinette Putnam of Revere. He was born September 23, 1865 and will die out in Santa Barbara, California January 8, 1963 at 98 years. He was there at home in 1880, and here in 1910. His brother Arthur is listed above. He is 52 ME ME ME, his wife Effie E. (Elizabeth) is 50 ME. He looks to be the son of William F. and Sarah Putnam from Somerset County Maine. He was with that family in Holbrook, Massachusetts in 1880. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is now a captain in the Fire Department here. He is retired and they are both in Orange County Florida in 1935. Effie is widowed here in 1940.

He is 43 NH, his wife Grace Edith Hardy is 41 MA. Also living with them is Mary E. Hasmer 81 MA listed as an aunt in law. He is number 2647 in Eben's book, a son of Asahel Putnam (1178) and his third wife Thankful Frances of Newport, New Hampshire. This line would be Morrison R. > Asahel > Samuel > Timothy > Seth > Thomas > Thomas > John. He was here in 1910 listed as Raymond. He is now a printer at a box factory. They are here in 1930.

He is 25 IN, his wife is Grace 19 MA. He is a son of Sylvestor and Sarah Putnam and was shown at home in 1900 in Harbison, Dubois County Indiana. He has another listing working on a ship in Boston Harbor, and is listed 25 IL. He was actually born in Wabash County Illinois where his dad was from. I lived in Hingham in the 1970s and 1980s. The old Ship Yard was a Port of Entry at the turn of the Century, and built a bunch of ships for both world wars. Condos and shops now.

This listing has her as 50 MA (actually CAN) and her daughter Doris 20 MA. Then there is a Mary Frazer 40 and J. Olive Frazer 52 both born in Nova Scotia, and J. Peter Lawton 60 MA a lodger. At any rate, she is Ada Frazer and was here in Boston in 1900 and 1910 married to Albert Sewell Putnam from Danvers. She is widowed now and will be in 1930 too.

 

AGNES M. PUTNAM  Boston, Suffolk County

She is 27 MA. Also listed are her son Charles P. 1 1/12 MA and her mother Ellen Glynn 58 MA. Agnes Glynn is the widow of George F. Putnam. They lived in the North End and lost a daughter in the Molasses Flood of January 1919. A descendant says he was so depressed over this loss that he committed suicide. Now, Rand did some figuring on who George was. There is a birth record of their daughter who died in the ‘Flood.’ She was Mary Evelyn born in 1914. Her parents were George F. and Agnes Putnam. The marriage record of George F. Putnam and Agnes Glynn on January 29, 1913 lists his parents as V. G. Putnam and Alice Peabody and that he was born about 1887 in Lowell, Massachusetts. There is a draft record of George Frederick Putnam born May 16, 1886 who has a wife named Agnes Putnam. George was here in Boston, single, in 1910 and listed as Frederick V. Putnam. He is a son of Zenas Vaughn Putnam and Alice Peabody. Long story here. Zenas by the way was a son of Vaughn Greenleaf Putnam from Lowell and he was at home there in 1880. He then married Alice F. Peabody in Lawrence October 31, 1885. Young Fred here was born in Lowell May 16, 1886. His folks got divorced and Alice married George Lovett in Lowell on July 23, 1897 and Fred went with her. In the 1900 he is listed as George F. ‘Lovett’ in ditto marks in the 1900 census with Alice and George Lovett. Seems he will change his name to George Frederick Putman as that is what he uses when he married Agnes M. Glynn.

He is 30 MA and is listed as a lodger under Margaret Proctor. He is the son of George W. Putnam and Maria Martin of Worcester. He was born there January 16, 1890. He was here in 1920 and is here in 1940 still single.

She is 30 VT and single. She is a nurse enumerated under Mary J. Ross. She looks like the daughter of John Henry Putnam and Emma Smith from Windham County Vermont. She was home in Bellows Falls in 1900 and 1910.

She is 84 ME. She is listed under Clifford Porter and is his mother in law. Annie’s daughter Flora E. 64 ME is here too. Ann Battles is the widow of Zenas B. Putnam from Knox County Maine. Annie and Flora were both together in Kennebec County in 1910. Flora must have finally just got married.

Must be some kind of separation, as his wife Mary is elsewhere in town with their daughter Ellen. Both say they are still married though. They both will die before 1930.

The listing says he is 58 MA. But no, it’s a girl. This is Austiss Putnam an unwed daughter of George Franklin Putnam and Sarah Hunt. They were all here in 1910, but both her folks have since died. They were well into their 70s at that time.

He is 64 ME and his wife Mary E. Morrill is 62 ME. There is also a daughter Dorothy M. 23 MA. He also has three boarders. They were here in 1900 and 1910 as well. He is a son of Daniel Putnam Jr. and his second wife Sarah Ann Tasker from Waldo County Maine. He was born there in 1855.

He is 58 MA. His daughter Elizabeth is 18 MA. There is also Mrs. Susie Bean a housekeeper 54 MA. He is number 3201, the son of Benjamin Wadsworth (1546) and Susan Caroline Symonds of Boston. He was married to Mabel Snow in Plymouth County in 1900 and here in Boston in 1910. He will be way up in Laconia New Hampshire in 1930 still widowed and a naturalist.

She is 70 MA and listed as a boarder of an unreported person. She is a sister of the above Benjamin Wadsworth Putnam. She was single here in 1900 and 1910 as well, and living with her sister Ella Clark and her husband Eugene.

She is 59 MA and is listed under Helen A. Emery as her sister in law. She is an unwed daughter of Charles O. Putnam. Helen is actually her widowed sister. They were all here in 1910.

He is 57 MA and is listed under Duncan Cameron as a lodger. His wife Altina Kenney is 56 MA. He is a son of Joseph Porter Putnam and Sarah Elizabeth Sluman and was in Boston with the folks in 1870. He was in Denver in the early 1880s and then back in Chelsea, Mass. in 1900 with his first wife Georgia Smith. She must have died and he then married Altina. Altina was born in Salem, Massachusetts December 13, 1862. She first married Charles Leonard in 1881 in Boston. They are in Boston again in 1920 and then Somerville in 1930. Ed will die there in 1934. And Altina is widowed there in 1940 and will die in Somerville in 1954.

She is 83 NH and is listed under Mark D. Carrow as his mother-in-law. She is the second wife and now widow of Leverett Osgood Putnam. There were in Boston in 1910, and in 1910 were in Haverhill with Mark and her daughter Helen.

He is a son of Arthur James and Mary Putnam. He was at home with them here in 1900. His folks are separated and living separately here in Boston. Ernest and the gang are here in 1930.

William Henry Putnam was a son of Osgood Putnam (2122) and Rhoda Hall of Groton, Massachusetts. Came up to New Hampshire about 1869. He was there in 1880 and married to Mary Frances Robbins. He was single there in 1900 and was shown with his son Leslie in Lexington, Massachusetts in 1910. Annie was there in Lexington with them. Annie and Ethel are in Boston in 1930.

He was in Searsport, Maine in 1900 and 1910 married to a Prudence.  Then they split. Prudence is there now. By 1930 he is back there with a new wife Margaret.

He is 54 MA, his wife is Amanda T. Hendengram 54 SWD (Sweden). At home is daughter Louisa 16 MA. Also living there is Anna E. Hendengram 51 SWD, who is Amanda sister. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is the son of George Harriman Putnam and Ellen Perley from here in Boston. His dad was a son of Harriman, son of Stephen (1853).

Henry will be back in new Bedford in 1930 still divorced and single. He is still here and single when he registers for the WW II draft in 1942.

He is 33 NJ, his wife is Edith Nagle 30 MO. He is a son of Henry Rice Putnam and Louise Day Kellogg, originally from Brooklyn and then New Jersey. His grandparents were Nathaniel Putnam 3rd and Abigail Devereaux. He was with his folks in Pasadena, California in 1900. They will have a daughter here in a couple of years and then be in Rye, Westchester County New York by 1930.

She is 74 MA and living with her nephew Harry J. George. She should be the widow of Wendell Putnam. Wendall was a son of son of Lincoln S. Putnam and Lydia Richardson.

In 1930 Mary is down in Miami, Florida enjoying the sun.

Isabella is widowed by 1930 and is Albany County New York with her son Gerald.

He was born in Searsport, Maine but came down here with the family in the latter 1880s. They were here in Boston in 1900 and married here in 1910. They are all in Quincy in 1930.

He is 58 MA, his wife Elizabeth Lowell is 57 MA, and their son Augustus L. is 20 MA. There is also one servant there. He is a son of George Putnam (3155) and Harriet Lowell of Boston. He was born in Canton, but been here most of his life.

 

WILMOT S. (SCIPIO) PUTNAM  Boston, Suffolk County

He is 66 MA MA MA and is living alone. He says he is single and runs a grocery store. He is a son of Lawson Putnam (2170) and Martha Inman of Millbury, Mass. In 1880, he was married to Ida C. Morse and they were in Taunton, Bristol County. He and Ida and the kids were in Cambridge in 1900 and in Dedham in 1910. His son is married back there now. Ida is presently in Stoneham by herself. But she is back with Wilmot and they are in Stoneham together in 1930.

He is 73 MA and is living at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea. He is George Washington R. Putnam, son of John Pearson and Jane (Lewis). He was in Boston in 1910.

He is 42 CND, his wife Ethel is 44 MA. At home is daughter Ethel 16 RI. Also living there is a lodger. He is a son of Frank Rollins Putnam and Louisa Ann Francie from Liverpool, Queens, Nova Scotia. His dad was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts November 15, 1850 and died in Chelsea, Massachusetts September 29, 1898. He was single in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1900, and married there to Ethel in 1910. They were here in 1920.

He is 46 MA, his wife Annie L. Curran is 37 RI. He is a son of George W. Putnam and Harriet Floyd from Chelsea. He was home there in 1880 and 1900. They were in Revere in 1910. He looks like the guy widowed in Providence, Rhode Island in 1930.

He is 30 MA and is living with his sister in law Bridget Young. There is also a Grace 7 MA here, but she lists Bridget as her grandmother. He is a son of John R. Putnam and Madge Taylor. He was at home with his family in 1900 and 1910 next door in Winthrop. His widowed mother is there now. They are here in Revere in 1930. He is a fisherman.

He is 39 RUS, his wife Bessie Fine is 38 RUS, his daughter Ruth is 13 MA, son Lawrence is 10 MA, and daughter Edith is 5 MA. They were in Roxbury in 1910 and are there again in 1930.

He is 50 MA, his wife Georgiana Allen is 50 MA. Living with then are Georgiana's mother Arabella Allen 81 CAN and sister Evangeline L. Allen 36 MA. He is a son of Henry and Sarah Putnam from Prince Edward Island, Canada. They were all here in Winthrop in 1900. They will be retired in Palm Beach, Florida in 1930.

Margaret Taylor is 52 MA and is living with her daughter Thelma 20 MA. Also there is a boarder William F. Wilmont 54 CAN. She was here in 1900 and 1910 married to John Putnam from Canada.

She is 65 ME and is living with Frederick A. Johnson. She is a daughter of Simeon Waters Putnam and Vesta Cushman. She was here in 1900 and 1910 with her widowed mother who was 87 in 1910. Good genes. She and Fred are in Bourne on Cape Cod by 1930, or maybe it’s just a summer home.

He is 61 VT and his wife Amelia Ethel is 53 MA. He has two roomers, Florence Paul 21 MA and Alta Paul 19 MA. He is the son of Hiram M. Putnam and Mary Small from Lamoille County Vermont. Then the folks moved to Ashburnham, Mass by 1870, and here in Athol by 1880. His first wife was Caroline Ward Harris. He and Amelia were here in 1900.

He is 62 MA. His wife Mary J. Kennedy is 55 MA. He has a daughter Ida J. 18 MA and a son Vernon W. 17 MA. He is Charles Warrington Putnam, son of Nathan Bond Putnam and Isabelle Pierce Hammond of Orange, Franklin County and was born there April 15, 1857. He was home in 1880 and here from 1890s. He married Mary Jennie Kennedy February 9, 1891. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is widowed here in 1930.

He is 59 MA. He has a servant Addie J. Ames 56 MA and a boarder Lillian A. Ames 29 MA. He is Austin’s son. He was here in 1900 married to Mary Murphy. He was widowed here in 1910.

She is 35 MA and is a boarder listed under Albert L. Caswell. She was in Winchendon in 1900 as an adopted daughter of George Kempton. No ideas at all on her parents. She was there in 1910 and will be here in1930 and 1940 still single.

She is 70 CT and is living with her son in law Walter M. Hunt. Jane Lamphere was married to Edward F. Putnam in Worcester City in 1900. Guess he has since died.

She is 25 MA, her son John W. is 8 months old, and they are living with her mother Sadie L. Metcalf. May lists herself as being a widow. She married Harold Putnam, son of Charles Putnam from here on August 7, 1915. She is here in 1930 and 1940, and lists herself as widowed then too. John age 10 then is at home.

He is 74 MA, his wife Delia Levisia Fisher is 69 MA. He is a son of Danforth Putnam, son of William Putnam (1819) from Orange. They were here in 1900 and earlier than that. He will be widowed in 1930 and living with his married daughter Pansie Lane in Haverhill.

She is 64 MA. She has a Granddaughter Gladys H. 15 MA that lives with her. She is the widow of Austin Putnam. They were in Worcester in 1880, and she was widowed here in 1900 and 1910.

He is 28 MA, his wife Mary D. is 31 MA, and their daughter Elizabeth D. is 4 1/2 MA. He is a son of Milton K. Putnam and Alice Sherman from here. He was at home in Sturbridge through 1910 and also listed in Lynn in 1910 boarding. They are in East Brookfield in 1930, but it’s probably the same house.

Alfred is 48 MA and lives with his wife, Mary Ellen Howe 46 MA. Also there are two daughters, Florence 26 MA and Nellie M. 25 MA. They were here in 1900. He is a son of Henry Clark Putnam and Sarah Madera Williams from here in town. They are all here in 1930. Henry was a son of Russell Putnam (2155) and Adeline Buss of Charlton. Mary is a daughter of Daniel Milton Howe and Ellen Frances McIntire. They were married here in Charlton June 1, 1892.

He was single here in 1900, got married about 1902. He is a son of Marble Putnam and Evelyn Waters from Sutton. Marble is a son of Waters Putnam (2805) and Jane Putnam of Sutton. She is 74 MA and is living with her son from her first marriage Arthur F. Bemis 51 MA. Also there is a servant. Pauline Nichols was the third wife and now widow of Henry Charles Putnam from here. They were here married in 1900 and 1910.

He is 29 CA, his wife is Hazel  Belle Fuller 30 MA, and their daughter Virginia is 5 MA. He is a son of Oliver Kimball Putnam and was born in Orange County California in May 1890. Oliver was a born back in Xenia, Ohio, and his grandfather was Jasper Wheeler Putnam (3105) from right about here in Grafton, Mass. Family really went full circle.

He is 65 MA. He is living with Ada E. Sanborn. He is John Walter Putnam. In 1900 he was widowed or divorced in Worcester City. He is the son of John Perry Putnam and Harriet Ward from Sutton. He has been widowed since the 1890s. He was in Worcester in 1900 and back in Sutton in 1910.

The listing has her as 56 MA. She is a boarder listed under George and Elizabeth Buckley. She was here in 1910 and will be in 1930 as a servant to Elizabeth Buckley who is widowed by then.

He is 61 MA and is listed as a boarder under Orlando Boss. He is a son of Newell and Sarah Ann Putnam, and was born in Townsend, Mass. March 21, 1858. In 1900 and 1910 he was married to Mary Brackett and they were in Leominster. Mary and their daughter Winifred are now teachers in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He is here still by himself in 1930.

He is 23 NH and his wife Laura is 23 MA. They are boarding. Can’t figure the NH birthplace, but he sure looks to be a son of Roscoe Putnam and Isabella Bliss. He was shown at home in Leominster in 1900 at age 3 MA. To make it even more confusing, Forest and Laura are also shown boarding in Leominster, and in that listing they both use Connecticut as birthplaces. Something will happen and in 1927 Laura will marry James O’Neil at they are here in 1930 with a daughter Adeline Putnam born in 1922.

She is 57 VT and lives with two daughters Laura Bell 33 MA and Ruth 26 MA. She is Carrie Elliott the widow of George Holden Putnam. He died here March 15, 1903. George was a son of Thomas Whipple Putnam and Louvinia Rice, and was born in Springfield, Vermont. She and Laura are here in 1930.

He is 41 VT, his wife Ethel Irene Nichols is 40 ME. At home are their children: Truman 17 MA, Gladys 12 MA, Haven L. 9 MA, Ethel L. 8 MA, William D. 6 MA, and Sidney 3 ¼ MA. Truman is a stepson from Ethel’s first marriage to Borden Gray. Haven Lee Putnam is a son of Myron C. Putnam from Chittenden County Vermont. He was home there in 1900, and married here in 1910. They are nearby in Templeton in 1930. His folks are nearby in Worcester right now.

He is 83 MA. He is widowed as his wife Olive Weatherbee has died in the last decade. Living with him is a housekeeper Lillian M. Farnsworth 51 NH. He is a son of Elijah Putnam and Mary Bancroft, been here about all his life. He was born here June 23, 1836. He was in Hampton County in 1900 and back here in 1910.

He is 60 MA. He lives with his sister Ida A. 58 MA. They are children of George Edwin Putnam and Carolyn Allen of Grafton. They have been here since they were born.

She is 66 MA and is enumerated under Edward W. Newton as his mother-in-law. Emma Gill is the second wife and now widow of Daniel Cady Putnam from Shrewsbury. She was married before and Alice Newton 47 MA would be her daughter from the first marriage. All three are here in 1930. Edward by the way is a farm foreman and they live at the Grafton State Hospital where he works.

She is 53 MA, her sister Jennie A. Ish (Ash?) is 56 MA. Mary L. Bigelow is the widow of Charles Chandler Putnam who was here in 1910. Charles married Mary L. Bigelow in Worcester on July 5, 1910. He was 72 and she only 44. She had been married to a Lawson, but this was his first. He died of sheer exhaustion probably in the last several years.

 

HENRY H. PUTNAM  Harvard, Worcester County

He is 51 IL, his wife Cordelia Howard is 49 MA. At home are their daughters Frances L. 13 MA and Patricia 9 MA. They were in Lexington, Middlesex County in 1900 and 1910. He is a son of Samuel Porter Putnam and Louise Howell. His dad was a son of Rufus Austin Putnam and bother were Congregational Ministers. Henry was born while the family was in Illinois. In 1870 the family was in Pembroke, Merrimack County New Hampshire and were with his grandfather Rufus. Then the family was in Ohio and I don’t find them in 1880. He was in Lexington in 1900 and 1910 and will be in Boston by 1930.

 

JOHN E. (EBEN) PUTNAM  Holden, Worcester County

He is a foreman at a factory 49 MA, and his wife Faustena H. Weymouth is 49 ME. He is the son of Sumner Putnam (son of James 1360) and Laura Lowe from Sutton. He was home in 1880 and single in Worcester in 1900 and 1910. She is a daughter of James Emery Weymouth and Arvilla Deveraux. In 1930 it says they have been married 20 years so they would have been married later in 1910.

 

LOVELL W. (WOODBURY) PUTNAM  Holden, Worcester County

He is 63 MA, his wife Mabel Moore 54 MA. At home is their daughters Alice L. 37 MA and Ruth L. 26 MA. He is a son of Alvin Woodbury Putnam and Mary Lovell Knight of Sutton. They were in Worcester City in 1900 and 1910. He said in 1910 that he was widowed, so it looks like this Mary is a different one from the Mary he was married to from the 1870s through 1900. Mabel is widowed in 1930. in 1930.

 

WILLARD PUTNAM  Lancaster, Worcester County

He is 68 CT and is listed as a carpenter at the State Industrial School. His wife Helen R. 55 PA is here and is a matron at the School. He is a son of Willard Putnam and Lois Tuckerman from Sterling, Windham County Connecticut. The family was originally from Sutton, Mass. They have been doing similar work at the Rhode Island State Insane Asylum in Cranston, Rhode Island. They were there in 1900 and 1910.

 

CAROLINE E. PUTNAM  Leicester, Worcester County

She is 58 MA. She has a daughter Ruby 24 MA. She is Caroline Horne. She was married to Myron Putnam in Charlton on January 1, 1891 and he died in the late 1890s. Myron was a son of Henry Charles Putnam and his first wife Sarah Mary Williams and was born in Charlton. Carrie was in Lancaster with Ruby in 1910.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Leominster, Worcester County

He is 40 ME. His wife Minnie Crain is 38 CND. They have a son Roy C. 4 MA. His sister in law Agnes Woodard 31 CND and his father in law Robert Crain 79 CND also live with him. Daniel Filmore Putnam of Rumford, Maine had a one year old Charles in 1880. This is his dad. They were here in 1910 and will be in 1930 and 1940.

She is 52 MA. She has a daughter Ruth 29 MA. Florence Tufts Morse is the widow of William A. Putnam, a son of Andrew Jackson and Sarah Putnam from Wilton, New Hampshire. They were here in 1900 and 1910. She is widowed here in 1930 too.

He is 50 VT, his wife Amy Van Buskle is 49 NS, their daughter Marion O. is 21 VT, daughter Winifred F. is 18 MA, and son Waldo E. is 15 MA. He is the son of Albert Sanderson Putnam, son of George Washington, son of Stephen (1209). He was born in Halifax, Vermont. They were here in 1900 and in Fitchburg in 1910 and are here in 1930.

He is 32 MA. His wife is Edna Johnson 24 MA and his daughter Martha 2 MA. Also there is his brother in law Myers Johnson, 19 MA. He is a son of George Emery and Mary Putnam from Sutton. He was at home single there in 1910. He married Edna a few years ago and she will die here July 24, 1921. He will marry Florence Barber in 1927 and they will be in Sutton in 1930.

 

EDWIN C. (CORNELIUS) PUTMAN  Millbury, Worcester County

He is 49 MA. He lives with his wife Maud L. Guerney 58 MA and his son Herbert W. (Wellington) 20 MA. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is a son of Henry Wellington of Sutton. They are way up in Burlington Vermont by 1930 and still no kids.

Ellen White is 75 MA and lives with her son in law, Henry Glover and his wife, her daughter, Emma. She was living with them here in 1900 and 1910. She was married to John Milton Putnam, Jr. and she and Emma were with him in Douglas in 1880.

 

CARL PUTNAM  Northbridge, Worcester County

He is still widowed and is 42 MA MA MA and his son Stanton is 17 MA. He is a lumber dealer. He is the son of Peter Holland Putnam and Harriet Augusta Putnam from Sutton. He was home in Sutton in 1880 and boarding in Worcester in 1900. He then married Susannah Harris Darling in about 1901 and they had the son Stanton Darling Putnam in 1903.  They are in Northbridge in 1920, and he is still widowed in Northbridge in 1930. Susannah died October 5, 1903 probably as a result of the childbirth. He was widowed in Webster in 1910 and will be here in 1930. The son Stanton will be married in Douglas in 1930.

 

MURRAY PUTNAM  Oxford, Worcester County

He is 43 MA, his wife Florence E. is 38 MA. Their sons are Roland C. 16 MA and Russell S. 13 MA. He was single in Boston in 1900, probably at school or work, but was back here where he started by 1910. He is the son of Cornelius Putnam and Isabelle Moffett of Oxford. Florence is widowed with Russell here in 1930.

 

CLINTON W. PUTNAM  Rutland, Worcester County

He is 50 MA. His wife Lucy Case Dodge is 46 CT. He has two daughters Catherine C. 26 MA and Bernice 22 MA. He also has a son Rufus D. 20 MA. His father in law George S. Dodge 70 ME also lives with him. He is the son of George Atlee Putnam (son of Rufus 1734) and Philena Elizabeth Fletcher from Rutland. He was born here March 3, 1869 and will die here February 22, 1951. Lucy was born in Hebron, Connecticut March 7, 1873. They are here through 1940 at least.

He is 42 MA and is living alone. He is a son of George Sumner Putnam. He was born here. He was with his folks here in 1910, but both have died in the last decade.

He is 48 MA, his wife Mary Patterson Rockett is 46 MA, their son Walter is 18 MA. Also here is his mother Mary Louise Putnam 74 MA. He is a son of Daniel Cady Putnam and Mary Louise Avery, and was born here. His folks split in the late 1800s, and his dad was remarried by 1900. She is Philena Fletcher, 90 MA and is living with her son James R. 64 MA, daughter Alice L. 60 MA, and son David F. 56 MA. Also there is her sister Lois J. Fletcher 79 MA. There is also a boarder there. She is the widow of George Atlee Putnam, son of Rufus Putnam (1734). They have been here in Rutland since the early 1850s.

She is 52 MA. She is enumerated as the sister of Ralph E. Winchester. Clara Winchester was the wife of John W. Putnam from here. They were here in 1900 and 1910.

 

HERBERT C. (CHEENEY) PUTNAM  Shrewsbury, Worcester County

He is 38 MA, his wife Elizabeth M. is 48 MA. Also living there is his father Herbert Leander Putnam 67 MA. He is a son of Herbert Leander Putnam and Mary Cheeney of Shrewsbury. They were in Worcester though in 1900 and then back here by 1910. Herb junior was born October 26, 1881 here in Shrewsbury. They are here in 1930 and 1940. In his WWII draft registration in 1942, he gave his birth date, the fact he was married and worked for Socony-Vacuum Oil Company (became Mobil Oil later). The SS death index has him dying in Shrewsbury in February 1966.

 

WALDO D. (DANIEL) PUTNAM  Shrewsbury, Worcester County

He is 30 MA, his wife Florence Mary Tuttle is 27 MA. He is a son of Anson Waldo Burlingame Putnam and Ella M. Stowe. He was born March 22, 1889. He was home with his widowed mother in Auburn in 1900 and 1910. He and Florence were just married In Auburn on June 24, 1919. She will die in 1924. He will then marry a Mary in Shrewsbury in 1928 and they are in Worcester in 1930. Then they got divorced and Waldo is alone in Worcester in 1940. He had a daughter Florence Marjorie Putnam born March 27, 1920 in Shrewsbury and she will be with her mother’s folks, Charles and Ada Tuttle, in Worcester and single in 1930 and 1940 and will die single here in Worcester August 5, 1994. Daniel will die here in 1951.

He is 48 CT and his wife Flora  Marie Prince is 43 MA. They were married here March 1, 1896. They have two sons, C. Wilbur 11 MA and Stanley P. 5 MA. He is the son of Freeman Putnam and Hulda Morse. He was home in Eastford, Windham County Connecticut in 1880. He was there in 1900 too, and here in 1910.

He is 39 MA, Bessie Johnston 34 MA, and Pearl 8 MA. Bessie's parents are here too. They are Charles Johnston 70 CT and Lizzie 64 CT. He is the son of Daniel Brown Putnam and Ella Woods and was at home in Templeton in 1900, and was single here in 1910. He married Pearl Elizabeth Ross on June 8, 1910 in Montague. They had a daughter Pearl in 1911 and then Pearl died. He then married Bessie Johnston and they are here in 1930 and 1940.

He is 40 MA, his wife Edith Haskell Bellows is 36 MA. At home are their children, Lenox B. 15 MA, Richard R. 8 MA, and David E. 3 1/4 MA. His mother Jennie P. Putnam 61 MA is living there with him. Also there is his grandmother in law, Matilda L. Lackey. She is 83 MA. He is a son of Archelaus Dana Putnam and Jennie Lackley and was born here in Spencer. Lawrence will die in nearby Oxford June 1, 1929. In 1930 Edith is living by herself in Brooklyn, New York and is a high school teacher there. All three sons are in Arlington, Massachusetts in 1930. Lenox is married and the other two are living with him and his wife Alice Hayes.

Putnam and Roxanna Pollard of Templeton. He was home there in 1880. He was here in 1910, and his widowed mother was in Worcester City. His wife is actually Harriet Louisa Moore born1876 in Sutton. Her parents are William A. and Mary E. (Tusker) Moore. Hattie was later adopted by Joseph Harrison and Elizabeth Gardner. She first married Jacob F. Stark on July 8, 1893 in Greenfield. They are here in 1930 and Roscoe is married then.

He is 76 MA. His second wife Mary L. is 75 NH. Interesting move. He is a son of Edward Putnam (2161) and Roxanna Davis. He was born in Lowell, Mass. and was there in the 1850. He and Mary were in Center Harbor, Belknap County New Hampshire in 1880, 1900 and 1910. Mary is widowed in Leominster in 1930.

He is 30 MA. His wife Ella Frances Underwood is 30 MA. He has a son Earl U. 4 MA and a daughter Dorothy A. 1 1/2 MA. He is a son of Milton Knight Putnam and Mary Alice Sherman from here. His folks are listed next. He was home in 1900 and 1910. He will die here February 11, 1925, and in 1930 Ella has remarried to Richard Risdel and they and the kids are here.

Her parents were Missionaries, her dad Joseph was born in Russia and mother Jane in England. They were all here in Sutton in 1910. Her mother is widowed in Worcester now. Mary is a daughter of Thomas Combs and Mary E. Calder and was born in Rhode Island in April 1860 and will die here in 1943.

He has always been listed as John R. up till now. Named for his mother’s family. He lives right next to his cousin Charles and Nellie Putnam. I don’t find them in 1930, but in 1935 he is a carpenter and they are in Hernando County Florida. He and Flora are back here by 1940.

He is 53 MA, his wife Alice M. is 37 MA. He is a son of Elijah Brown Putnam and Lucy M. Fuller of Sutton. He was born there June 1, 1866. He married Leonora Johnson November 21, 1888, then Jennie Eaton in 1892 and Alice around 1914 or 1915. He and Alice were in Alberta Canada in 1916, otherwise he has been here all his life and will be till he dies in 1942.

He is 44 MA, his wife Mary Helen Bradish is 33 MA. At home is their daughter Grace M. 17 MA. Also at home is John's mother Ella Lucy Woods 66 MA and aunt Sarah B. Putnam 72 MA. There is a boarder there as well, John T. Piper 76 MA. He is a son of Daniel Brown Putnam. The family was all in Templeton in 1900. Daniel has died in the past decade. John and Mary are divorced by 1930.

She is 73 MA and is living with her daughter Beatrice Sprague 46 MA. Helen J. Staples is now the widow of Arthur Putnam. They have been here since the 1870s. Arthur is a son of Elias Putnam (1775) and Eunice Ross of Danvers.

He is 72 MA, his wife (no name listed) is 57 MA. He is Walter Augustus a son of John E. Putnam (2743) and Lucy Muzzy of Rutland. He has been here since the 70s. He is still a sheriff. He was married to Caroline Durant up through 1910, so this one is new.

He is 31 MA, Lottie 25 MA, and they have Fred L. Jr. 10/12 MA. He is a son of Frank Austin Putnam and Edith E. Baker and was home with the family in 1900 in Dudley, Mass. In 1910 he was a patient at the Wrentham State School for the Feeble Minded. He seems much better now. They are here in 1930 and 1940

He is 51 MA, his wife Annie Stobbs is 46 MA. At home are their children, all born in MA: Ethel 21, Charles 17, and John 12. He is the son of John Davis Putnam from Webster. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He and Annie are also listed now in Springfield. They are here in 1930 too.

Almond Hobart Putnam is 74 MA. His wife Catherine Sweeney is 62 MA. He is a son of Elisha Rockwood Putnam (2948) from Middlesex County. They were here since the 1870s. He will die in the next few years, and Kate will die October 21, 1927.

He is 40 MA. His wife Jennie Fische Tilson is 36 MA. He has two daughters, Thelma 14 MA and Elizabeth 9 MA. He also has a son Charles 2 MA. He is the son of Elisha Albert Putnam and Mary Elizabeth Bixby from here. He married Jennie in 1904. They are all here in 1930.

He is 80 MA and an inmate at the Westborough State Hospital. The age is off a tad, but at 78 who remembers. He should be Charles Cushing Putnam, son of James Putnam and Charlotte Harrington of Lunenburg. He was home in 1880 and by himself in 1900.

She is 64 MA and is living alone. Mary Elizabeth Bixby is the widow of Elisha Adelbert Putnam. They were in Hopkinton in 1880, and she was widowed here in 1900 and still is in 1930.

 

ELLA O. PUTNAM  West Brookfield, Worcester County

She is 62 NY. Her brother-in-law Arthur H. Livermore 63 MA and her sister Hattie E. 63 NY live with her. She is Ella Comstock now the widow now of Jacob Putnam. They were here in 1880, 1900 and 1910. They are all here in 1930.

 

GERTRUDE PUTNAM  Westminster, Worcester County

She is 41 MA and is living with her mother Nettie A. Nicholas. She was married to Ernest Edwin Putnam here in 1900 and they were divorced here in 1910. Ernest married Gertrude Jane Nichols in the late 1890s and they were in Westminster, Massachusetts in 1900. They then got divorced. He then married Julia May Clapp. He and Julia were in Athol in 1910 and Danvers, Massachusetts in 1920. Gertrude was in Townsend in 1910 with her mother. Ernest and Julia are out in San Diego, California in 1930. Ernest will die in San Diego February 16, 1968. Julie will die there December 23, 1970. Gertrude will die here in 1928.

 

LILIAN E. PUTNAM  Westminster, Worcester County

She is 61 MA and is a cook at the Garden State Colony. She is Lillian E. Tenney now the widow of Edgar Walton Putnam. They were in Boston in 1900 and he was in Leominster in 1910. Not sure where she was in 1910 though.

 

ORRIN E. (EBENEZER) PUTNAM  Winchendon, Worcester County

He is 59 VT and is boarding with Charles Norse. He is a son of Hiram Putnam and Mary Small of Walcott, Vermont in 1860, and in Ashburnham, Mass. in 1870. In 1880, he was single in Phillipston, Worcester County. He then was in Gardner, Worcester County in 1900 and 1910, but never had a wife with him. He was first married to Nettie Holden in the late 1880s or early 1890s and something happened. They had a son Allen Orrin in 1891. In 1900 Nettie was with her folks in Northfield, Franklin County with Allen and pretty much the same in 1910. By 1920 Nettie and Allen are in Los Angeles County California and are there forever. He recently married Alice M. Smith here in 1898, but separated very quickly. He is in Athol in 1930.

He is 29 NH and is rooming with Elizabeth E. Raymond. He is a son of John C. Putnam and Gertrude Nutting from Wilton New Hampshire. He was home with his dad and stepmother Jessie Rice in 1900 in Leominster, and with his married sister in Templeton in 1910. He is still single here in 1930.

She is 58 MA ME ME and single. She is a patient in the Worcester State Hospital. She was listed as an adopted daughter of Peter Putnam and Betsy Smith of Cambridge in 1900, and was in Medford in 1910. She is here still in 1930.

They were there in 1900 and in Dunbarton NH in 1910. His dad was originally from Hubbardston, Worcester County. They are part of the other, Yorkshire England branch of the family.

She is 55 MA. She has a lodger Albert A. Bond 41 MA. She is a daughter of Samuel Putnam (3135) and Harriet Graves from here. She was here with her widowed mother in 1910.

 

FRANK E. PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 37 NH, Mirtis or Myrtis Williamson his wife 39 MA, Beatrice M. 11 MA, Eunice M. 8 MA and Frank E. Jr. 4 6/12 MA. He is the son of Charles E. Putnam. He was at home in 1900 in Winchester, Cheshire County New Hampshire. Came down here to work the mills I guess, they were here in 1910. He will die later this year and I don’t find Myrtis in 1930, but she is in the Masonic Home for the Elderly in Shrewsbury in 1940. She is also listed in Worcester in 1940 with her son Frank Eugene Putnam.

 

FREDERICK S. PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 53 MA, Anna Davis 49 MA, and Gladys 26 MA. His father Charles H. Putnam 78 MA is with them. He and his family were here in Worcester in 1900, but he didn’t have a wife then. Gladys was by an earlier marriage of Anna and Edward Noether. Fred and Anna are here in 1930.

 

GEORGE (HAMILTON) PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 63 ME, his wife Ella Lucinda Graves is 64 MA. Also there is Charlotte Claflin (Claughlin) 51 MA. He is a son of Elisha Rockwood Putnam and Mary Ann Seaver. The family was from Westborough, then went up to Franklin County Maine where George was born. They returned to Hopkinton in the 1870s. He and Ella were there in 1880. They were in Middlesex County in 1900, and in Westborough in 1910. Something will happen and he will marry Susan Jerome Flowers March 30, 1924. I don’t find any in 1930.

He is 24 MA and is lodging with Byron Truscott. He’ll be soon marrying Eunice Elizabeth Hult and they are here in 1930. He is a son of Clinton Putnam and Lucy Dodge of Rutland.

 

GEORGE A. (AUGUSTINE) PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 67 MA, his wife Anna Maria Joy is 71 NH. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is George Augustine Putnam a son of Philander Putnam and Harriet Prentice from Worcester Massachusetts. He was born in Northbridge June 7, 1852. Philander is number 2177, a son of Cyrus Putnam (921) and Lucinda Hathaway of Sutton. George is widowed in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1930.

 

GEORGE A. (AUGUSTUS) PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 84 NH, his wife Louise Sabin is 66 MA. At home are daughters Jennie L. 52 ME and Florence A. 43 MA. Also at home is a niece, Grace L. Bancroft 33 MA. They were all here in 1900 and 1910. He is number 2929, a son of the Rev. John Milton Putnam (1330) and Arathusa Brigham. He married Fannie Marie Wells who died. In 1881, he married Hannah Louise Sabin. He is a clergyman like his father.

 

GEORGE D. (DECATUR) PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 57 MA MA MA and his wife Emily is 31 MO GER GER. At home are daughter Virginia 8 MO and son Edwin 4 MO. He is a son of Sumner Putnam and Laura Lowe of Sutton. He was married to Nettie Ewell in Shrewsbury in 1900. Then they got divorced and in 1910 he is married to Emily and they are in St. Louis. In 1910 and Nettie is with her mother and both say they are widowed. He was just married to her in St. Louis in the 1910 census and had the kids through 1915. Probably been back here a couple of years. He is a dye manufacturer as he was in St. Louis in 1910. I don’t find any of them in 1930. They are here in 1940 and I am sure in 1930, but not indexed correctly.

 

GEORGE H. (HENRY) PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 55 MA, his wife Nellie M. Knight is 51 MA. At home is daughter Harriet (N. or M.) 11 MA. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is the son of Henry Clinton Putnam (son of James Putnam 2294) and Harriet Maria Fuller from Sutton. They are all here in 1930 and also listed in Clearwater, Florida in 1930. Harriet is married by then.

 

GEORGE W. (WILLINGTON) PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 66 MA, his wife Maria Victoria Martin is 62 MA. Also living there is a cousin Anne Munroe 75 MA. They were here in 1900. He is the son of William Putnam (3134) and Sarah Wheelock from here in Worcester. He was born here March 28, 1853 and has been here all his life. He will die here in 1924 and Maria is widowed here in 1930.

She is 39 MA MA MA and widowed. She is lodging with Annie Hedwall. She is Grace E. Howe the widow of Frank Austin Putnam. They were in Auburn in 1910. Their daughter Gladys is with her grandmother Ella Putnam back there now. She is here in 1930.

She is 60 MA and is living alone. She is a daughter of Sibley Putnam (2732) and Sarah Brown. She was here in 1900 with her then widowed mother Sarah. In 1910 she was here with her sister Emma. She is here in 1930.

 

HENRIETTA S. PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

She is 75 MA. Living with her is her son Charles E. 48 MA. Also living there is Gertrude W. Burnham 48 MA and Joseph Burnham 59 VT. Henrietta Stockwell is the widow now of Edward J. Putnam (son of John Putnam 2743). They were here in 1900 and 1910.

He is 58 MA, his wife Adelaide E. Prentiss is 49 MA. Their children are at home, all born in MA: Elizabeth 23, Harriet 21, Howard P. 19, Samuel L. 17, and Edward 15. He is the son of Samuel Putnam (3135) of Worcester.

He is 62 MA, his wife Mary E. Nichols is 61 MA. He is the son of George Atlee Putnam (1734) and Philena Fletcher of Rutland. They were here in 1900 and are still in 1930.

He is 22 MA and is living with James Hannon. He is listed as white, but sure looks like the son of Harry Putnam from Greenfield, Franklin County. That family was black.

She is 34 CAN and is living at the Worcester State Hospital. She was here in 1910. She looks to be the daughter of Robert Putnam and Jessie Harvey from Nova Scotia.

 

JOHN P. PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 52 MA. His mother Isabella P. is 93 MA and is living with him. There is also a maid there. He is a son of John Jay Putnam and Isabella Parkhurst from here in Worcester. They were all here in 1910. His mom will die and he will get married in 1929 and be here in 1930.

 

LESLIE H. (HIRAM) PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 38 NH, his wife Mary Florence George is 33 NH. Their daughter Edith F. is 11 NH, son Lawrence is 10 NH, and son George L. is 3 years 1 month NH. He is a son of Lewis and Lavina Putnam from Hookset, New Hampshire. He was home there in 1900 and he was married in Goffstown, Hillsborough County in 1910. This is the ‘Other Branch’ of the family originally from Yorkshire, England.

He is 80 MA and has Lavinia C. Carpenter 43 MA living with him. He is the son of Philander Putnam (2177) and Harriett Prentiss from Northridge and then here in Worcester. He was married to Harriet Ward who has died since 1900, as he was widowed here in 1910. They were in Worcester from the 1870s on.

She is 49 MA and is living with her brother in law Dwight B. Woods. She was the wife of Elmer J. Putnam, and was with him in 1900. She was widowed there in 1910.

He is 71 MA, his wife Adelaide Baker is 64 RI. He is the son of John Milton Putnam (2902) and Hailey/Harty Mason from Sutton and then Douglas. They were here in 1900 and 1910.

 

MAYNARD PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 45 MA, his wife Mattie Gaines Hayes is 42 MA, his son Mark M. is 17 MA, daughter Lucy M. is 13 MA, son Kenneth is 11 MA, and his niece Hazel G. Hayes is 13 MA. He is Maynard Darius Putnam a son of George Eugene Putnam and Lucy Annabel Putnam of Sutton. He was born March 3, 1876 and was with the family there in 1880 and in 1900, then got married and moved into the City by 1910. They are in Gardner in 1930. The son Kenneth Howe Putnam was born October 1, 1908 and will die in Grafton August 25, 1987. He married Ethel M. Whitney in 1924. Ethel is a daughter of Edwin Elijah Whitney and Ida Amanda Prentice. She was born in Grafton March 12, 1910 and will die there in December 1985.

 

MYRON C. PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 59 VT, Eleanor Long 56 CAN, Grace E. 20 VT. He is a son of Haman Putnam and Juliette Chapin from Westford, Chittendon County Vermont. His dad died back in the 1860s and he was with his mother up through 1880. He was married in Burlington in 1900, and down here in Oxford in 1910. They are just south in Auburn in 1930. His son Haven is nearby in Gardner, Mass.

 

PETER PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 34 ME and is lodging with Robert H. Harvey. Only decent choice is that he is the son of William P. and Annie Putnam of Waterville, Kennebec County Maine. In 1900 he was listed as Edward P. 15 ME. Both initials probably stood for Peter.

 

ROY A. PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 39 MA, his wife Edith 25 MA, and their daughter Blanche is 5 MA. Also living there is his mother Rebecca Putnam 72 MA. He is a son of Alonzo L. Putnam and Rebecca Nichols. They were in Grafton, Worcester County in 1880. In 1900 he was with his widowed mother in Ashland, Middlesex County. I think he was the Ray in Stoneham in 1910. Rebecca was in Upton by herself working as a housekeeper in 1910.

 

ROXIE PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

She is 79 MA and is living with her son in law Fred Blake and her daughter Mary Ellen. Roxanna Caroline Pollard is the widow of William A. Putnam. She was living with her daughter Mary and son-in-law Fred Blake here in 1900 as well.

 

SARAH A. PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

She is 76 MA and is living with her two daughters Marion 41 MA and Helen 35 MA. Sarah Adeline Woodbury is the widow now of Samuel Henry Putnam. The whole family was here back in 1900 and 1910. Only the two sisters are around in 1930.

 

SARAH F. PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

She is 77 MA and is living with her nephew Harry P. Prescott. Sarah Frances Johnson is now the widow of John D. Putnam from Webster. John was a son of Russell Putnam and Adeline Buss of Charlton. He died in Webster in 1907. They are all here in 1930 too.

He is 25 MA, his wife Mildred E. Warren is 24 MA, and their daughter Elizabeth is 2 months MA. Also there is his father in law George F. Warren 49 MA. He is a son of Henry Anderson Putnam of Worcester County. Henry was the son of Samuel (3135) of Worcester.

He is 43 MA, his wife Minnie Darling is 50 RI, their son Harold E. is 16 RI and son Donald W. is 10 MA. He is a son of Peter Holland Putnam Junior and Harriet Augusta Putnam (kinfolk) of Sutton. They were in Sutton in 1910.

He is 56 OH, his wife Annie E. Marble is 51 MA, their daughter Catherine E. is 26 MA, and their son Frank is 21 MA. He is the son of Frederick Wheeler Putnam (son of Jasper Putnam 3105) and Caroline Crocker from Grafton, Massachusetts. He was born when his folks were in Xenia, Greene County Ohio May 29, 1863. His dad worked for the railroad and they were in Ohio from the 1850s to the 1880s. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is widowed here in 1930.

 

WILLIAM (WALTER) J. PUTNAM  Worcester, Worcester County

He is 54 NY, his wife Jennie M. Butler is 53 NY, and their daughter Florence E. is 22 NY. He is listed as William, but has been Walter since he was born. He is a son of Charles M. Putnam and Harriet E. Burrows from Broome County New York. Jennie is a daughter of Edward Oscar Butler and Martha Reynolds. She was born November 29, 1866. He and the family were in Deposit, Broome County in 1900 and 1910 and are back there in 1930. His dad was a son of Jeremiah Putnam and Hannah Roe from Connecticut.

He is 51 MA, his wife Hattie W. Cook is 50 MA, their son Harold F. is 22 MA, and son Willis E. is 17 MA. He is a son of Edward S. Putnam and Josie J. Dennison of Sutton. They were here in Worcester in 1900 and 1910 and will be in 1930.
