CATHERINE PUTNAM  Anoka, Anoka County

She is 71 MA born Apr 1829 and lives alone. Catherine Hall is the widow of George Whitmore Putnam and was here from the 1860s. George was born in Sutton, Massachusetts August 11, 1827 and just died here December 23, 1898. She will be in Portland Oregon in 1920 at age 90 living with her widowed daughter Katherine Staples. She was born in Massachusetts January 21, 1927 and will die in Anoka January 21, 1927.

 

MARY A. PUTNAM  Mankato, Blue Earth County

She is 69 CAN born Apr 1831 and the mother in law of Lewis Hunt. She was here in 1895 and is still in 1905.

 

PEARL PUTNAM  Montevideo, Chippewa County

She is 26 MN born Mar 1874. She is a lodger with William Hughes. She looks to be a daughter of James Putnam as shown in 1880 in Granite Falls.

 

SAMUEL M. (MORTIMER) PUTNAM  Brainerd, Crow Wing County

He is 65 NY born Sep 1834, Mary A. 63 NY born Jun 1836 and Bernice M. 31 WI born Jun 1868. Also there is Guy Hill 16 MN listed as granddaughter (?). They were here in 1880. He is Samuel Mortimer Putnam, a son of Thomas Jefferson Putnam (#2257) and Marcina Thomas. He was born in Oswego County New York. Mary is widowed here in 1910, living with her daughter Clara Davis who is also widowed by then.

 

FRANK E. (EDDY) PUTNAM  Blue Earth City, Faribault County

He is 43 VT born Jan 1857, Jennie Rector 32 NY Apr 1868, Harold R. (Rector) 5 MN Sep 1894 and Alice E. 2 MN Sep 1897. He was born January 9, 1857 in Grafton, Vermont, a son of John Henry Putnam (2825) and Alice Augusta Eddy. John Henry was a son of Asher Putnam number 1271. He is an attorney here. They are here in 1910 through 1930. He will be a State Senator by 1910.

 

WILLIAM R. (RICE) PUTNAM  Rushford, Fillmore County

Obviously just blew into town in time for the 1895. He is 53 OH born Feb 1847, Harriet Jane Willard his wife 37 IL Jul 1862, Persis (Persis Frances) 11 WI Jul 1888, Katherine 10 WI Sep 1889, Rufus W. (Willard) 8 WI Jun 1891, Harriet 7 WI Jun 1892, Mary H. 2 WI Jun 1897, Janet 1 MN Dec 1898. He is a son of Rufus Putnam and Mary Herskell and was born in Clark County Ohio. He was single in La Crosse Wisconsin in 1880. Jane is widowed here in 1910, and she and a couple of the daughters will be in Urbana, Champaign County Illinois in 1920. The son Rufus Willard will be a cadet at West Point in 1910 and then married in Chicago by 1930.

 

WILLIAM H. (HERRICK) PUTNAM  Red Wing, Goodhue County

He's been here since the 1860s. He has a second wife now. He is 52 MA born Jan 1848, Nellie L. Butts is 39 NY born Oct 1860. Her mother Mary M. Butts 64 NY is living with them. Also there are his sons William R. 23 MN born Aug 1876, Frank D. 22 MN Sep 1877, Robert W. 19 MN Sep 1880 and Frederick W. 15 MN Nov 1884. He is number 3193, son of William Richardson Putnam number 1542. He married Nellie here on July 10, 1894. His first wife Adeline Rowell had died in 1890.

 

A. (ABRAHAM) PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 47 IL born Apr 1853, Emma Holmes, his wife, 43 OH born Dec 1856, Harry B. (Brower) 19 IL born Dec 1880, Hart C. (Charles) 17 IL born Jul 1882. Also there is Emma's mother, T. R. Holmes 78 VT. He is a son of William Brower Garrett Putman and Martha Elkins, New York Dutch family. He was born in Schuyler County Illinois. He was in Cass County Illinois in 1870 with his brother John. He married Emma Laura Holmes in Cass County Illinois September 7, 1879. Abe and Emma were in Astoria, Fulton County Illinois in 1880. They are here in 1910, but not indexed where I can find them. They will all be here in 1920, except Emma's mom.

 

ARTHUR C. PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 43 MA Sep 1856, Jennie C. 34 NY Jan 1866, Mary 12 WI, Mar 1888, Arthur 10 WI May 1890, and Benjamin H. 5 MN Oct 1894. He is a son of Lorenzo and Mary Putnam. They were all here in 1885 and were all in Sherburne County in 1895. His folks are still there now. He was born in Becket, Mass. and was at home there in 1860. They are back in Sherburne County in 1905 and then in Wright County in 1910.

 

CAROLINE PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

She is 73 CT Feb 1827, Frances 30 NY (really about 47) Jan 1870, Kate 33 (about 44-45) NY Mar 1867. There are also two roomers. These folks are new since 1880. Caroline McCray is the widow now of John Skinner Putnam (son of Harvey and n Putnam), and they were in Attica, Wyoming County New York in 1870 and Missouri in 1880. Kids ages are off, but all the names are just fine. The two daughters are here by themselves in 1910. John died here July 14, 1898. Caroline will die January 9, 1906. Both folks were returned to Attica, New York for burial.

 

CATHERINE PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

She is 39 WI born Feb 1861, her sister Sarah L. is 33 WI born Jun 1866. They are new, and are both in St. Paul in 1910. They are both daughters of John Day Putnam and Charlotte Lovell from St. Croix County Wisconsin. They were at home there in 1870 and in Pierce County Wisconsin in 1880. The folks have moved to California, and these sisters decided to hang in here in the Mid West. Catherine is a doctor, Sarah a teacher. They are in St. Paul in 1910.

 

CHARLES E. (EDWARD) PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

Newcomers that were here in 1895. He is 45 NY born Oct 1854, Lucretia Nichols his wife is 42 Sep 1841, A. (Ann) Elizabeth 21 NY Sep 1879 and Willard N. (Nichols) 18 NY April 1882. He is a son of Edward Alexander Putman and Mehitable Anderson and was born in DePeyster, St. Lawrence County New York. Dutch family. They are here in 1910 and 1920.

 

CHARLES R. (ROPES) PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is now 63 ME born Feb 1837, Laura Ann Ayers his wife is 56 ME Jul 1843, Ida A. 28 MN Apr 1872 and Charles Edgar 19 MN Feb 1881. In 1910, he will be widowed and be living with his son Charles in Tacoma, Pierce County Washington. They will be there in 1920 as well.

 

EDWARD C. (CORNELIUS) PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 47 WI born Feb 1853, Mary Johnson, his wife, is 44 NRY born Aug 1855. He is a son of Charles Wesley Putnam and Ellen Coyle. He was born February 6, 1853 in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County Wisconsin. He married Mary in Dell Rapids, South Dakota July 1881. They were here in 1885 and 1895, and are here in 1910.

 

F. (FRANK) J. PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 41 MA born Jan 1859, Mary Christian 38 SWT Mar 1862, Alice 15 MN Apr 1885. Mary's father John Christian 58 SWT is with them. Frank is widowed here in 1910 and 1920. Frank is a son of Lorenzo and Mary H. Putnam who are also here in Minneapolis. He was born in Becket, Berkshire, Mass., and was at home there in 1860.

 

GEORGE A. (ALONZO) PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 55 NY born Mar 1845, his wife Nellie Fletcher 59 VT born Jan 1841. They are boarding with George C. Bowen. George is a son of Alonzo Franklin Putnam (son of Jacob Putnam 1808 and Lucy Barnes of Londonderry, Vermont). George was born in Malone, New York after the family left Vermont. He married Mary Fletcher in Plainfield, Vermont July 5, 1867. He will marry a Mary Ann here in 1901 and they are here in 1905 and 1910.

 

GEORGE H. PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 39 MN born Jan 1861, Gladys 13 MN Oct 1886, George 5 MN Oct 1894. Also there is a housekeeper, Gena Peterson 28 NRY. George is a son of George Whitmore Putnam from Anoka County. He was there in 1870 and 1880. He married Della Sowden in Anoka December 28, 1884 and they were here in 1895, then she died in 1899. He will have a new wife Lilla G. Hendrixson here in 1910 through 1930. George was born in January 1861 and will die here in Minneapolis March 11, 1946. The daughter Gladys was born November 25, 1884 and will die July 28, 1968. She will never marry.

 

HENRY J. PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 36 NY born Feb 1864. Annette Stiles his wife is 33 WI Apr 1867. His mother Mary E. Putnam is 66 CT born Oct 1833. He is a son of John Henry Putnam from New York and the whole family was here in 1880. Henry and Annette will be here in 1910 and 1920.

 

HILTE or HILDE PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

She is 36 VT born Jul 1863. She is enumerated with Mary E. Morse 54 VT, and is listed as her daughter.

 

JOSEPH L. (LOUIS) PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 45 NY born Apr 1855, Josephine Lydia Leighton his wife 31 MN Feb 1869, Hollis H. 16 MN Feb 1884, Edna C. 14 MN Jan 1886, Mabel C. 9 MN Feb 1891, Frances V. 7 MN Feb 1893, Myrte H. 4 MN Oct 1895 and Joseph F. 1 MN Nov 1898. He is a son of Hollis and Charlotte Putnam. He was born in Montgomery County New York. The family was in Will County Illinois from 1860 through 1880. They are all here in 1910 and across the River in St. Paul in 1920. He will be widowed and back in Minneapolis in 1930. His folks are in Chicago now. Dutch family.

 

LEO PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 18 MN born Jan 1882 and boarding. He will be in Pine County in 1920. Also in Pine county then will be Elizabeth Bowen, the widow of Charles Henry Putnam who was in neighboring Kanabec County in 1900. These may well be his folks.

 

LEWIS PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 30 PA born Aug 1869, and rooming. I don't find him in Pennsylvania in 1870 or 1880.

 

LORENZO PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He was here in 1880. He is now 45 MA born Nov 1854, Mary E. Turnbull his wife 43 IL Aug 1856, Estelle E. 18 MN Oct 1881, Irving L. 17 MN Feb 1883, Albert F. 14 MN Jan 1886, Roy W. 12 MN Apr 1888, Margaret 8 MN Jan 1892. His folks were Lorenzo Putnam and Mary Thayer from Becket, Mass. They are here still in 1910 and in 1920.

 

LOUIS F. PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is listed 25 ME born Nov 1874, Lillian C. 22 MN Jun 1877, Vera L. 2/12 MN Mar 1900. Also there is a 'servant' Ellen Voge 15 MN. He is a son of Franklin and Emily Putnam and has been here most of his life. They are here in 1910 and 1920.

 

MARY PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

She is 83 NY born Apr 1818 and living in the Home for Children and Aged Women.

 

MAUD PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

She is 30 NY born Jan 1870. She is enumerated with Ruth Ridges. She is here in 1905 too. Looks like Carrie the daughter of James and Sarah Putman from Fulton County New York.

 

NED B. PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 38 PA born Apr 1862 (actually born April 7, 1859), Callie (Frances Callie Frost) 19 VA born Jan 1881. He is Edward Bishop Putnam, a son of George and Rebecca Putnam. He was in McKean County Pennsylvania in 1860 and in Warren County Pennsylvania in 1870 with his then widowed mother Rebecca Rider Putnam. By 1880 he was back in McKean County. He and Callie are here in 1905, 1910, 1920 and 1930. He has a saloon called Put’s Bar. His dad George is a son of George Putnam (1182) and Salina Thayer of Washington County Vermont and then by 1850 in Jay, Essex County NY.

 

T. L. (FRANKLIN L.) PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 55 MA May 1845, Emily L. 62 MI Apr 1838. This would be Franklin Jr. who has been here since the 1860s. His dad, Franklin, was from Houlton, Maine. He and Emily are here in 1910. Franklin will die here in Minneapolis on May 30, 1919. Emily will die here January 7, 1917.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is Franklin's son and has been here since the 1870s. He is 41 MA Jul 1858, Belle 38 MO Aug 1861, Margaret 8 MN Dec 1891, Robert G. 5 MN Nov 1894, Donald E. 2 MN Oct 1897. They will all be in Ward County North Dakota in 1910, and Belle will be with her son Robert in Montana in 1920, and in Seattle Washington by 1930.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

New here since 1880 when he was in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. He is William Charles Putnam 51 WI born Jul 1848, Elizabeth Bird, his wife, is 51 NJ Dec 1848, George W. 17 MN Jan 1883. His mother Ellen Putnam 73 CAN Feb 1827 is with them. In the 1850 Wisconsin census, he is listed with his parents Charles Wesley Putnam and Ellen Coyle. His dad is from Oneida County New York. The family was in Waukesha County Wisconsin in the 1860. His brother Edward is here in Minneapolis now too. I don’t find them in 1910, but Elizabeth is widowed in Spokane Washington in 1920 and the son George is married there too in 1920 and to another girl there in 1930.

 

ESTELLA PUTNAM  Hennepin County

She is 19 MN born Aug 1880 and enumerated with Rolla Stubbs. She is a daughter of Pliny Dewey Putnam and his first wife Laura Gertrude Williams and was at home with them in Wright County in 1895 at age 14.

 

ANDREW N. PUTNAM  Hubbard County

He is 26 NH Oct 1873, and living alone. He is a son of Willard Putnam. They were all in Douglas County in 1880, and now even dad is here in Hubbard County. He will be listed in Beltrami County in 1910, still single. He is also listed as single here in 1910 as well.

 

FRED PUTNAM  Hubbard County

He is 22 MN born Mar 1878 and lives alone. Fred Ellsworth Putnam is a son of Willard Putnam and was born in Douglas County. The rest of the family is here in Hubbard County now. Fred will marry his stepsister Mabel E. Rice and they are here in 1905. She will die in 1910 and he will have a new wife in Montana after that. They will have 2 kids who are widowed here in 1910 and Fred isn’t around then.

 

LEVI PUTNAM  Hubbard County

He is 40 MN (NY) born Mar 1860. He is a son of Lewis and Lavinia Putman and was in Olmstead County with them in 1880. He was here in 1895 and will be in 1910 through 1930. Dutch family from New York State.

 

WILLARD J. (JAMES) PUTNAM  Hubbard County

He and his whole gang moved over from Douglas County where they were in 1880 and 1885. He was widowed here in Hubbard County in 1895. He has several sons nearby. His first wife was a Mary who would be 44 MI/WI this census, so this Mary is Mary number two and she has two of her own kids here. He is 48 NH born Sep 1851, Mary Louise Fuller 45 NY Mar 1855, Charles H. 17 MN Jun 1882, Ernest W. 11 MN Jul 1888, Mabel E. 9 MN Jan 1890.  Mary was married to Charles Rice who died here in 1888. The stepchildren are Mabel E. Rice 16 MN and Charles W. Rice 11 MN. By 1910 and 1920, he will be in Sanders County Montana with another wife named Henrietta from New York. No kids by then. Interesting Willard’s son Frederick will later marry his stepsister Mabel E. Rice.

 

WILLIAM R. (RUSSELL) PUTNAM  White Oak, Hubbard County

He's new. He is 39 NY born Jun 1860, Annie Elsie Stephenson, his wife, 36 NORWAY May 1864, Wallace 9 MN Aug 1890, Ida 5 MN Jan 1895, Orpha 3 MN Feb 1897. He is a son of William Gordon Putnam and Sarah Sheldon of Lisbon, St. Lawrence County New York. His dad was from Canada. They are here in 1910 with a couple more kids.

 

G. (GEORGE) M. PUTNAM  Itasca County

He is 42 NY ENG ENG born Jul 1857 and lodging with Elmer Geer. He says he is married now, and is here widowed in 1910.

 

C. H. (CHARLES HENRY) PUTMAN  Kanabec County

He is Peter's son from Wright County. Dutch family out of New York. He is now 51 IL Jan 1849, Elizabeth Bowen 49 CAN May 1851, Iva B. 17 MN Mar 1883, Frank 15 MN May 1885, Alice E. 13 MN Mar 1887, Elsie V. 10 MN Jan 1890, Bertha H. 8 MN Feb 1892, J. (Julia) W. 5 MN Aug 1894 and Florence E. 11/12 MN Jun 1899. Charles will die here April 16, 1907. Elizabeth will be widowed here in 1910, and in Pine County in 1920 and 1930 with her son Frank. She will die in St. Paul May 13, 1933 at age 81.

 

EDWARD W. PUTNAM  Kandiyohi County

He is 26 IL born Jan 1874 and lives alone. He is the son of Christopher and Harriet Putman. He was home in McHenry County Illinois in 1880. Dutch family. He will marry Georgiana Hanson here in a year or so. She is alone with twin daughters here in 1905 and on. Last time I see Edward. Don’t know if he died or split and moved somewhere.

 

KITTRIDGE PUTNAM  Dawson, Lac qui Parle County

Reuben's son has been here since the 1870s. He is now 73 VT born Dec 1826. He is listed as 'father' with Charles Paige as he was in 1895. See 1880 for his line. Now, he didn't have any daughters in 1880, but maybe he had one that was married then.

 

FRED E. (ELISHA) PUTNAM  Le Sueur, Le Sueur County

This one is a son of William Putnam and Lucy Ladd from New York. He was born right here. He is now 42 MN born Jan 1858, Eugenia Jane Palmer 42 NY May 1858, William E. 14 MN Mar 1886, Bessie L. 12 MN May 1888, Myrtle E. 9 MN Jun 1890, Fred I. 7 MN Sep 1892 and Golda M. 2 MN Dec 1897. They were here married in 1885 and 1895. I don’t find any of these folks in 1910. The son William is widowed in Yamhill County Oregon in 1920. The son Fred Israel is in North Dakota in 1920.

 

PEARL A.  PUTNAM  St. Peter, Nicollet County

She is 23 MN born Aug 1876. She is an employee at the State Hospital for the Insane. She is a daughter of James L. and Josephine Putnam who are in Yellow River County.  She is in St. Paul working as a stenographer in 1905. She will be with her mother in St. Paul in 1920.

 

W. A. (WORTHY ADELBERT) PUTNAM  Nobles County

This is Pliny's son from Winona County. He is now 55 NY born May 1845, Mary Ellen Welch 56 AL Jan 1844, A. A. (Arthur) 32 MN May 1868, his wife Edith Palmer is 21 MI Nov 1878, daughter Eileen 1 MI Feb 1899. Then there is a daughter of Worthy's, Lulu 23 MN born Nov 1876. They will be in Rock County in 1910 and in South Dakota in 1920. The son Arthur is still here in 1905

 

LAVINA PUTNAM  Rochester, Olmsted County

She is the widow of Lewis Putnam. She is 62 NY born Jan 1838, Nancy her daughter is 18 MN born Aug 1881. Also there is another daughter, Nettie Simmonds 25 NY born May 1875, and her sons Charlie Simmonds 6 MN Sep 1893 and Levi Simmonds 3 MN Aug 1896.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Rochester, Olmsted County

He is 22 MN born Dec 1877, Lillie 19 MN Sep 1880. He is a son of Lewis and Lavinia and was born here. They are here in 1910 and he is alone here in 1920.

 

CHARLEY PUTMAN  Olmsted County

He is 37 NY born Aug 1862, Mary Carlson 25 MN Apr 1875. He is a son of Lewis and Lavinia and was here in 1880. They were married here in 1895. They are here in 1910 and she is widowed here by 1920.

 

CAROLINE P. PUTNAM  Otter Tail County

Caroline Newton is 62 MA born Jun 1837, Mary Ann 42 MN Jul 1857 and Tyler S. (Samuel) 23 MN Nov 1876. She is the widow of Henry Putnam from Massachusetts, and they were here in 1880, Stearns County in 1870 and Sherburne County in 1860. Her son Herbert is here in the County her son Newton is in North Dakota.

 

FRANK S. (SHADRACK) PUTNAM  Otter Tail County

He is a son of Luman Putnam and Lovinia Vanderwark. He was born in Wright County and was with mom in Douglas County in 1870 and the family wasn't listed in 1880. He was single here in Otter Tail County in 1885. He is now 41 MN born Feb 1859, his wife Hannah Robinson is 33 WI Mar 1867, Oren (named after his grandfather) 13 MN Nov 1886, Floyd 11 MN Dec 1888, Worthy 7 MN Nov 1892 and Birdella 2 MN Jan 1898. New England folks. All of these folks will be here in 1910 and 1920. In 1930 Frank is living by himself and Hannah is with her son Oren.

 

HERBERT A. (ASA) PUTNAM  Otter Tail County

He is a son of Henry and Caroline Putnam. He was born in Sherburne County. He is now 34 MN Oct 1865, Celia J. Oakes 35 MN Jul 1864, Henry O. 7 MN Nov 1892, Helen E. 6 MN Apr 1894, Carrie D. 3 MN Oct 1896, Everett H. 1 MN Mar 1899. They are here through the 1920.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Pine City, Pine County

He is 39 WI born Nov 1860, Sabella 43 IA May 1857, Roy E. 7 IA Sep 1892, George J. 5 IA Mar 1895, Hazel 2 IA May 1898. Also there are two children from Sabella's first marriage; Mary Schales 17 IA and Opal Schales 15 IA. He is a son of Jacob and Mary Putman from Waushara County Wisconsin. They are in Montana in 1920.

 

DOTTIE PUTNAM  St. Paul, Ramsey County

She is 19 MN born Oct 1881 and enumerated with Belle Gordon as a boarder. Rand took a better look at this entry. She is listed as a prostitute. So maybe she’s using a fake name or maybe she is a Putnam. I tried calling her, but just get voice responses. I’m trying to get her out here to see if she does have a good way with sex, and I’ll ask her then for her real name. Keep you posted.

 

DOUGLAS PUTNAM  St. Paul, Ramsey County

He is 39 OH born Nov 1860. Boarding. He is a son of Benjamin Perkins Putnam and Lydia Edgerton and was at home in 1880 in Marietta, Washington County Ohio, and single here in 1885. He is here in 1910. Massachusetts family.

 

ERNEST B. (BOLES) PUTNAM  St. Paul, Ramsey County

He is 39 WI born Oct 1860, Helen Louisa Van Auken 33 MN born Apr 1867. He is a son of Henry Cleveland Putnam and Jane Eliza Balcom of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. They were here in 1895, and are here with some kids in 1910.

 

JOHN T. (THURSTON) PUTMAN  St. Paul, Ramsey County

He was here in 1880. He is now 68 MA born Oct 1832, Catherine 61 IRE Sep 1839, Marianne 30 MN Aug 1870. He is a son of Miles Putnam and Rebecca Carter and was born in Worcester, Massachusetts November 19, 1830. He was at home in 1850 with his widowed mother. Catherine was married to a Walker before and I don’t have her maiden name

 

SUMNER H. (HAM) PUTNAM  St. Paul, Ramsey County

He is 44 ME born Jun 1855, Jennie Zell 44 GER Sep 1855. Also there is their daughter Lydia Vogt 21 MN Feb 1879, her husband Anthony J. Vogt 27 MN Aug 1872, and son Earl L. Vogt 9/12 MN Aug 1899. Also Louisa Miller 86 GER is listed as aunt. Jennie will be here still in 1920. He is a son of Alvarez Gonsalvo Putnam and Lydia Ham of Houlton, Maine. He was born in Hodgedon, Maine June 21, 1856. (Jeanette) 14 MN Feb 1887, Laura 11 MN Jan 1889, Gordon (Gordon William) 10 MN Apr 1890, Fred B. 6 MN Mar 1894. Carrie's brother, Peter Bentson 28 DNK is with them. She is Karen Bentson, and she came to Minnesota from Denmark in the late 1870s. She married Gordon Winslow Putnam, son of Henry and Harriet Putnam from Hutchinson, McLeod County. Renville County by the way, abuts McLeod County on the west. They were married in McLeod County and were there till the later 1890s when Winslow died. Look back to Minnesota 1860, or Ohio 1830-1850 for this line. They are here in 1905. Carrie and most of the kids will be in Whitman County Washington in 1910.

He is 25 MN born Aug 1874. Ada his sister is 27 MN Oct 1872. They are Worthy's children and were at home in Winona County in 1880. Their folks are over in Nobles County now. William will be in South Dakota in 1910. His folks will be here in Luverne in 1910.

He was single in Scott County Iowa in 1880 born Dec 1855, Annie Barnhauf 36 IA Nov 1863, Fred 13 IA Aug 1866, Theresa 12 IA Mar 1888, Mary 9 IA Sep 1890, Lizzie 7 IA Mar 1893, Clara 3 MN Aug 1896 and Josephine 1 MN Oct 1898. Anna will be widowed in Richland County North Dakota in 1910 and in 1920.

He is a son of John Elmer Putnam and Nancy Merriman from Massachusetts. He was born here and will be here still in 1930. He is now 42 MN born Oct 1857, Viola Maude Putman 33 MN Jun 1866, Gertrude M. 17 MN Sep 1882, Earnest F. 16 MN Oct 1883, Julian E. 15 MN Mar 1884, Pearl M. 13 MN Nov 1886 and Grace M. 11 MN Jul 1888. Viola is a second wife. He was originally married to a Julia Cordelia. She was with him in 1880 but died in early 1885 probably in the birth of Julian who was 2 months old in 1885. Viola is a daughter of Peter Putman and Patience Godfrey from the New York Poutman/Putman Dutch line. She was at home here in Wright County in 1870. She was previously married to a Johnson guy. Elmer was born here in Big Lake October 3, 1857 and will die here November 21, 1930. Viola was born June 10, 1868 in Silver Creek, Wright County Minnesota and will die here in Big Lake December 1, 1948.

They are in Lake County Oregon by 1910.

They were in Wright County in 1895, then it looks like they bopped over to Wisconsin for a couple of years. They are here in 1910 and then in Morrison County in 1920.

He is 38 MN born Apr 1862, Lilla Maude Putnam 30 MN Dec 1869, Hugh E. 6 MN Nov 1893, Ethel M. 4 MN Aug 1895, Glen 3 MN Feb 1897, Estella E. 1 MN Apr 1899. Then here comes the kicker. There is Nancy A. Putnam 71 MA born Feb 1829. She is Nancy Merriman the mother of Lilla Putnam. Her husband John Putnam died here October 3, 1899. She is here till she dies January 3, 1914. George is the son of Peter Putman and Patience Godfrey from Wright County. He is listed here as being born in April 1862. Lilla is a daughter of John Elmer Putnam and Nancy Merriman from here. Interesting. He is on the New York Dutch line and she on the New England English one. Anyway, they are here in 1910, and in Snohomish County Washington in 1920.

Lorenzo is a son of David Putnam Jr. and his first wife Hannah Church of Beckett, Mass. The line goes back from Lorenzo > David > David (624) > Isaac (226) > Isaac > Edward > Thomas > John.

He is 31 MA born Feb 1869 and enumerated with Jennie Schleacher. He is Frank Harwood Putnam, born February 1, 1869 in Sutton, Mass. He is a son of Peter Holland and Harriet Augusta Putnam. His folks are currently still in Sutton, Worcester County Massachusetts. He is married in Cass County in 1910 and 1920.

He is 35 IL IL WI born May, Sadie Bennett 29 MN born Mar, Hazel 3 MN born Nov, and Hattie 1 MN born Nov. Sorry, but the years were not recorded. He is a son of Marvin Morris Putnam and Ann Gennette Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. Marvin was a son of John Wellington Putnam and Minerva Scott from New York and then here in Winnebago County. Marvin died there March 25, 1866. His widow ‘Hettie’ married Seymour Barker in 1868 and Frank was with them in Winnebago County in 1870 and Freeborn County Minnesota in 1880. They are here in 1905, 1910 and 1920. They are divorced by 1930 and Frank and his daughter Hattie are in St. Paul.

He is 14 WY NH NH born Apr 1886. He is a stepson of Elsworth Dwella 39 MN and his wife Mary E. 44 MA UNK UNK. They have been married 4 years. His mother, Mary Eva True, was married to Walter E. Putnam a son of Alonzo Putnam and Hannah Cole from Haverhill, Grafton County New Hampshire. His dad died and mom remarried. He will be in Traverse County in 1910 near his uncle Parker. Parker is there now (see the next listing) and was a brother of Walter.

They were both at home in 1860 in Haverhill, Grafton County New Hampshire. Parker and the family were here in 1885. They are here in 1910 and he is widowed here in 1920.

(George) Frederick 8 MN Jun 1891, Alonzo W. 6 MN Feb 1894, Hiram M. jr. 2 MN Aug 1897. Young Hiram will be in Montana in 1920. There are also three field hands. He is a brother of the above Parker. Both are sons of Alonzo Whipple Putnam and Hannah Cole. They were at home in 1860 in Haverhill, Grafton County New Hampshire. Hiram and the family were in Wilkin County Minnesota in 1895. Winnie will be in a Sanitarium in St. Paul in 1910. Hiram will be here in 1910, and will be in Minneapolis with a new wife in 1920. Alonzo will be a real estate dealer in Broward County Florida by 1935.

Been here since the 1850s. He is 70 NY born Oct 1829, Jennie E. Fuller 68 NY born Apr 1832, and their daughter Flora Kading 45 NY Jan 1855 is back home again. By 1910 he will be widowed and Flora will still be here. He is a lawyer. He will also be here in 1920 at age 90.

He is William Washington son of Nahum Duncan Putnam. His dad was killed in the Civil War, and his mother married Nahum’s brother William who brought him up. He's been here since the 1860s. He married Rose Stadler here on November 1, 1881. He is 43 NY born Mar 1857, Rose 37 MI Apr 1863, George Ernest 16 MN Sep 1883, Wallace Charles 14 ND May 1885, Mertil (Mary Myrtle) 12 MN May 1888 and Violet (Margaret Violet) 5 MN Apr 1895. Rose is widowed here by 1905 and through the 1930.

Indexed as Esaph. He is 62 CAN born Dec 1837, Amanda C. Frisby, his wife, is 71 VT born Nov 1828. He was alone in Ontario Canada in 1851 and 1861. In 1880 he was in Chicago, Illinois, having married Amanda there in 1875. They were here in 1895 and are in 1905. He is widowed here in 1910, and in Blue Earth County in 1920. He is Asaph Ezra son of Joel Stokes Putnam and Lovilla Church from Leeds, Kent County Ontario. Asaph was born December 2, 1837 and will die here April 12, 1930. He married Julia Ann Stewart November 15, 1863. She was previously married to a Barshaw who died in 1852 and then to a Stewart. Julia died in Chicago February 22, 1875. Asaph married Amanda C. Frisbey in Chicago August 8, 1875. They were there in 1870 and 1880 and here in Madelia, Watonwan County Minnesota by 1900. Amanda was the daughter of Loton Leroy Frisby and Rhoda Mallory and was born in Vermont November 22, 1828. Amanda Married William Francis Cook in Connecticut December 14, 1851. He died August 3, 1852 and she married George Washington Bonham about 1856 and the separated. She married Asaph August 8, 1875. She will die in Watonwan County Minnesota August 30, 1909.

Charles was born in Arkwright, New York October 17, 1842. Charles and Harriet were married here in September 1871. They are here in 1910 and 1920.

Pliny is 54 VT born Aug 1845, Belle Aurelia Keeler his wife is 41 MN born Dec 1858 and Silas E. is now 26 MN Apr 1874. Belle is his second wife. They were married December 20, 1885. He first married Laura Gertrude Williams September 19, 1869 in Minnesota and she died December 11, 1882. Then Belle will die in 1907 and he will marry Lenora Aurelia Morgan in 1908 and they will be in Tampa, Florida in 1910, and he will die there May 12, 1912. Silas will be married in Alberta Canada in 1911 and then back in Minnesota in 1920.

Been here a long time now. He is 76 VT born Jul 1823, Caroline L. Palmer his second wife is 75 CT born Jul 1824. They were here in 1895. He was married to Lucy Hayden's through 1880 and widowed here in 1885. Caroline will die shortly on June 29, 1904 in Rockford, Minnesota. Silas is number 3413 from Cavendish, Windsor County Vermont. His folks are Silas Putnam (1695) and Dorothy Abbott.

He was here in 1880. He is now 50 NY Apr 1850, Josephine Vermilyea his wife is 46 NY Nov 1853, Madge 18 MN Aug 1881, Ruth 15 MN May 1885 and Jay 8 MN Sep 1891. He is a son of Union Putnam (2846) and Clarinda Frost of Stockton, Chautauqua County New York. His dad died back in 1886. They are both here, but divorced, in 1910.

 

JAMES PUTNAM  Hazel Run, Yellow Medicine County

He is 28 IL born Sep 1871. He is enumerated with Ole Jarshon as a 'servant.' He will be in Penryn, Placer County California in 1910, Auberry, Fresno County in 1920 and in San Francisco in 1930, 1935 and 1940. According to the San Francisco Death Index he is a son of James Putman (born VT) and Anna Oakes (born PA) and was born in Rockford, Illinois September 1, 1872. He will die in San FRancisco on April 3, 1940.

He is 22 MN NH WI and a farmer. He is the son of Willard and Mary Putnam from Douglas and then Hubbard County. He is back in Hubbard County in 1910. His brother Andrew will be here in 1910 probably working this farm. New England family.

She is 71 CT CT CT and seems to be living with Mary L. Leamon 30 NY NY CT who is probably a daughter. In 1900 and 1895 she is here listed as being born in Canada living with Louis and Elizabeth Hunt as a mother in law.

He is 36 MA MA MA a laborer who has been here 5 years. He is Frank Harwood Putnam, born February 1, 1869 in Sutton, Massachusetts. He is a son of Peter Holland and Harriet Augusta Putnam. His folks are still back there. He was single in Duluth in 1900 and will be married to Jennie here in 1910. He and Jennie are here in 1920 and 1930.

He is a railroad Conductor 31 MN MA MA. His wife Rena M. is 28 MN NOR NOR, and they have Alden H. 3 MN and Charlene M. 9/12 MN. He is a son of Alden Richard Preston Putnam and Sarah Charlene Dole from St. Paul. He was at home there in 1880. His dad died in 1880 and his mom in 1888. I don’t find him in 1900 or 1910.

He is Samuel Mortimer Putnam, a son of Thomas Jefferson Putnam (#2257) and Marcina Thomas. He was born in Oswego County, New York. Mary is widowed here in 1910, living with her daughter Clara Davis who is also widowed by then.

He is 48 VT VT VT. His wife of 11 years Jennie Rector is 37 NY, and their son Rector H. (Harold) is 10 MN and Alice Elicia 7 MN. He was born January 9, 1857 in Grafton, Vermont, a son of John Henry Putnam (2825) and Alice Augusta Eddy. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920. He is a lawyer now but will be a State Senator by 1910.

He is a son of Rufus Putnam and Mary Herskell and was born in Clark County, Ohio. He was single in La Crosse Wisconsin in 1880 and they were here in 1900. Jane is widowed here in 1910, and she and a couple of the daughters will be in Urbana, Champaign County, Illinois in 1920. The son Rufus Willard will be a cadet at West Point in 1910 and then married in Chicago by 1930.

He is a banker, 57 MA MA MA. Actually he is president of the bank. His wife Nellie L. Butts is 44 NY and they have Mary P. 30 MN (a school teacher), Robert W. 24 MN (banker with his dad), Fred W. 20 MN and Richard H. 3 MN. The kids are listed as NY but were all born right here.

He is a messenger 28 MN MA NH. His wife Jessie Gale Eaton is 29 MN NY ENG and they have William Howard 1 MN. He is a son of William Herrick Putnam and Nellie Butts from here. He was born in Red Wing, Goodhue County on August 17, 1876. He married Jessie here July 2, 1901. They are in Marinette Wisconsin in 1910 and Boise Idaho in 1920 where he is a manager of a power company. Then they are in New York City by 1930 where he is an executive in an Electrical Company.

He is 64 NY NY NY and lists himself as single and been here 3 years. Edward is a son of Ralph Lewis Putman and Jane Voorhes from Montgomery County New York. His brother will be here with him in 1910 and then they will head back to New York. Edward will die there in 1919. Dutch Family.

He was home there in 1880 and was in Peoria in 1900 with Hattie and the first two children. They are here in 1910 and 1920. In 1910 his widowed mother is here with them

He is 48 IA NY IL. His wife Harriet J. is 35 MI and they have Mary Duncan 7 IL and Eunice M. 6 IL. He is a son of Charles E. Putnam and Mary Louisa Duncan from Davenport, Scott County, Iowa. They were in Chicago in 1900 and then here. They will be back in Davenport Iowa in 1910. He’ll be alone in Chicago in 1920, and Harriet will be in Davenport, Iowa with Eunice then. Maybe he was there on business or maybe a divorce or something. New England family.

He is a clerk 50 WI NY CAN and his wife Mary Johnson is 49 NORWAY. He is a son of Charles Wesley Putnam and Ellen Coyle. He was born February 6, 1853 in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He married Mary in Dell Rapids, South Dakota July 1881. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1910.

He is a contractor 46 MA MA MA. His wife Mary Christian is 40 SWITZ and their daughter Alice is 20 MN. Mary’s father John Christian 67 SWITZ is with them as he was in 1900. Frank is a son of Lorenzo Putnam and Mary Turnbull from here. He was born back in Beck Massachusetts where his folks were from. He is widowed here in 1910. He and Alice are here in 1920 and he will be here until he dies January 7, 1929.

He is 61 MA ME ENG, and his wife Emily L. is 65 MI. She is his second wife. They were here in 1900. He is Franklin Junior, a son of Franklin Putnam and Mary Rice from Houlton, Maine and then here in Minneapolis by the 1860s. He was widowed by 1880, and then married Emily in 1892. They are here in 1910. Franklin will die here in Minneapolis on May 30, 1919. Emily will die here January 7, 1917.

He is a student 20 MN MN MN. He is a son of William Herrick Putnam and Adeline Rowell from here. He was home here in 1900. I don’t find him in 1910, but he is in Goodhue County married in 1920 and back here in 1930.

He is 61 NY NY NY and his new wife Mary Ann is 48 MA. They have been married 4 years, second for both. In 1900 he was married to Nellie Fletcher here in Minneapolis. George is a son of Alonzo Franklin Putnam (son of Jacob Putnam 1808 and Lucy Barnes of Londonderry, Vermont). George was born in Malone, New York after the family left Vermont. He married Mary Fletcher in Plainfield, Vermont July 5, 1867. He married Mary Ann here in 1901 and they are here in 1910.

He is 22 (can’t read state) and has I guess his mother. Mrs. H. A. Putman 56 and no State. Okay. In 1900 William Charles Putnam 51 WI and his wife Elizabeth Bird 51 NJ had a son George W. 17 MN. The ages fit, so has to be them. His dad was a son of Charles Wesley Putnam and so this kid’s name is probably George Charles Wesley Putnam.

He is also listed separately here at age 44 MN MA MA which is correct.

He is now 22 MN NY NY aand a clerk. He is single, but will marry Carrie in a couple of years and they are here in 1910. He is a son of Abraham Putman and Emma Holme and was born while the family was in Cass County, Illinois. His family was all here in 1900. Dutch folks from New York State.

Hard to read. Hazel is 23 ? OH WI and Mabel 30 ? OH WI. Both are single, boarding and both seamstresses. I don’t find them in Minnesota in 1900 or 1910. Probably Pitmans as there are a lot of them around.

He is 24 IL IL OH and his wife Mrs. H. (Blanche Beck) is 22 IA IA IA. He is a grain salesman. He is a son of Abraham Putman and Emma Holme from here. In fact, they were living with them here in 1900. They are here in 1910 with her mom so I know her full name. Dutch family out of New York State.

He is 40 NY NY CT born Feb 1864. Annette Stiles his wife is 38 WI ME ME Apr 1867. Her mother Georgia Stiles 70 ME is living with them now. He is a son of John Henry Putnam and Mary Newton from New York and the whole family was here in 1880. John was a son of Ralph Lewis Putman and Jane Vorhees from Mohawk, Montgomery County. Dutch folks. Henry and Annette will be here in 1910 and 1920.

 

HOLLIS H. (HARRY) PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is a millwright 21 MN and his wife Josephine Mary Michaud is 20 MN. He is a son of the following Joseph Putman and Josephine Leighton from here. They are also listed next as Holly Putman. At any rate they are back with his folks here in 1910. In 1920 they are in Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin and Josephine will die back here in Minneapolis in 1926 and Hollis is widowed here in 1930 and will die in Tombstone, Arizona January 18, 1955.

Another good entry. He is listed as Polly a carpenter. Anyway, he is Hollis Putnam 21 MN and his wife Josie is 20 MN. He is a son of Joseph Putnam and Josephine Leighton from here in Minneapolis. He was at home in 1900 and in 1910 he and Josephine are back with his folks, and have a couple of kids.

He is a son of Hollis Putnam and Charlotte Lobdell. He was born in Montgomery County, New York. The family was in Will County, Illinois from 1860 through 1880. They are here in 1910 and across the River in St. Paul in 1920. He will be widowed and back in Minneapolis in 1930. His folks are in Chicago now. Dutch family from New York. The son Hollis is just married and also has his own listing with his wife.

Putnam, and was born in Becket, Berkshire County Massachusetts. He will die here in Minneapolis March 23, 1924. Mary is widowed in 1930.

She is 35 NY NY NY. She is a schoolteacher and boarding. She was here in 1900. Looks like Carrie the daughter of James and Sarah Putman from Fulton County New York.

He is 46 PA NY PA and his wife Frances Callie Frost is 24 VA VA SC. They have Harriet 8/12 MN. He is Edward Bishop Putnam, a son of George and Rebecca Putnam. He was in McKean County, Pennsylvania in 1860 and in Warren County, Pennsylvania in 1870 with his then widowed mother Rebecca Rider Putnam. By 1880 he was back in McKean County. He and Callie are here in 1905, 1910, 1920 and 1930. He has a saloon called Put’s Bar. His dad George is a son of George Putnam (1182) and Salina Thayer of Washington County, Vermont and then by 1850 in Jay, Essex County, NY. He will die here in 1938. Harriet will someday marry Frederick Hartgen and live in Branford, Connecticut.

He is a farmer 32 MN NH WI. He is a son of Willard and Mary Putnam from Douglas County and then here in 1900. He was living alone here in 1900. He will be listed in Beltrami County in 1910, still single. He is also listed as single here in 1910 as well.

 

FRED E. PUTNAM  Rockwood, Hubbard County

He is a farmer 27 MN NH WI and his wife Mabel is 22 MN. They have Mabel A. 2 MN. He is a son of Willard and Mary Putnam from Douglas County and then here in 1900. Fred was living alone and single here in 1900. Mabel was born in 1883 and will die here in 1910. Fred will be n Montana with a new wife Lillian in 1930.

 

WILLARD J. (JAMES) PUTNAM  Rockwood, Hubbard County

He and his whole gang moved over from Douglas County where they were in 1880 and 1885. He was widowed here in Hubbard County in 1895 and married to Mary Louise Tuller here in 1900. He has several sons nearby. He is 54 NH MA MA born Sep 1851. His wife Mary Louise Tuller is 50 NY Mar 1855, and they have Charles H. 17 MN Jun 1882, Ernest W. 17 MN Jul 1888, Mabel E. 14 MN Jan 1890. By 1910 and 1920, he will be in Sanders County, Montana with another wife named Henrietta from New York, then back here in Rockwood in 1930..

He was new here in 1900. He is 45 NY NY NY born Jun 1860, Annie Elsie Stephenson, his wife, 42 NORWAY May 1864, Wallace 14 MN Aug 1890, Ida 10 MN Jan 1895, Orpha 8 MN Feb 1897, Gordon W. 3 MN and Annie E. 2 MN. He is a son of William Gordon Putnam and Sarah Sheldon of Lisbon, St. Lawrence County, New York. His dad was from Canada. They are here in 1910. He will die here June 15, 1916. Orpha is in St. Paul in 1920, but no idea where the rest are. Gordon is in Minneapolis in 1930 though.

He is 54 IL OH IL and a banker. He has a daughter Mabel 22 IA IL WI. Then there is an Eva M. Putnam 51 IL OH KY listed as a dressmaker. She is James’ unmarried sister. He is James, son of James Putman and Letha Darnell from Brown County, Illinois. He was a farmer until 1877 when he became a druggist in Holland, Grundy County, Iowa. In 1881 he married Maud White daughter of Julian and Hattie White. Maud was born March 31, 1858 and she died November 23, 1904. James will die January 9, 1913 here in Lakefield. Southern Putman family.

 

EDWARD E. (EDGERTON) PUTNAM  Comfort, Kanabec County

He is a farmer 28 MN IL CAN and his wife Laura Archibald is 21 MN CAN CAN and they have Mildred 2 MN and Orville 4/12 MN. He is a son of Charles Henry Putnam and Elizabeth Bowen. He was at home with them in Wright County in 1880. The family was here in Comfort in 1900, but Ed was off somewhere. He and Laura are in Latah County Idaho in 1910, Nez Perce County in 1920 and back in Lahat County Idaho in 1930. His widowed mom is here in 1910. Dutch family from New York State.

She is 24 MN NOR NOR and has twin daughters Hattie and May 3 MN IL MN. They live with her folks Mathias and Lottie Hanson from Norway. She was married to Edward Putnam. He was a son of Christopher and Harriet Putnam from McHenry County Illinois. He was single here in 1900, and must have died or split or something. Dutch family from New York State. Jorgina or Georgina and the kids are here in 1910 and 1920 and in Minneapolis in 1930. She says she is married in 1910 and then says widowed in 1920.

 

MILES J. PUTMAN  Grand Rapids, Itasca County

He is 32 MI. Then there is Rasa listed as a male (actually Rosa Dickinson Rorer his wife) 30 VA (MI) and then Gordon 6 OH. A really screwed up entry. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Nancy Collins. He was born when the family was in Monroe County Michigan. In 1880 the family was in Fulton County Ohio and then the folks were back in Eaton County Michigan and are there now. He was in Taylor, Wayne County Michigan in 1900 with her parents and are back there by 1910. He will be there under all sorts of spellings through the 1930. His family came out of Niagara County New York and Massachusetts before that.

He is 45 IL VT IL, and a grain buyer. Maggie A. Hauk, his wife of 25 years is 42 NY, Ernest H. 13 SD, and Margaret E. 7 SD. He is a son of Kitterage Putnam and was born in Kane County, Illinois in 1859 and was there in 1860. In 1880 he was here in Lac qui Parle County with his dad. In 1900 he and his wife Maggie were in Grant County, South Dakota. They are here in 1910 and Frank will be widowed here in 1920.

Worthy is a son of Pliney Putnam and Flora Edgerton and was in Winona County since he was born, and then in Nobles County in 1900 and Rock County now in 1905. Family is from New Hampshire before that.

He is 42 NY, his wife Mary Carlson 30 MN and their son Charley is 5 MN. He is a son of Lewis and Lavinia from Oswego County New York, and was here in 1880. He and Mary were here in 1900 and are here in 1910. Mary will be widowed here in 1920. Pretty sure he is on the New York Dutch line, but can’t place him.

He is 39 MN MA MA, Celia Jane Oakes, his wife of 13 years, is 40 MN, Henry O. 12 MN, Edith (Helen E.) 11 MN. Carrie D. 8 MN, Herbert E. (Everett) 6 MN, Alfred T. 3 MN and Kenneth E. 1 MN. He is a son of Henry and Caroline Putnam. He was born in Sherburne County, in Stearns County in 1870, and here in 1880 and 1900, and will be here in 1910 and 1920. Alfred and Kenneth are here in 1930 running the farm.

He is 28 MN and his wife Mary E. is 21 PA. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Caroline Newton originally from Sutton, Mass. They were out here in Sherburne County in 1860, Stearns in 1870 and here by 1880. He was here in 1900 with his mother who was by then a widow. They are here through 1930.

He is a farmer 46 MN NY NY. Hannah Robinson, his wife of 20 years, is 38 WI, Owen F. 18 MN, Floyd 16 MN, Worthy 12 MN and Birdella 7 MN. He is a son of Luman Putnam and Lavinia Vanderwark and was born in Wright County. He has been here since the 1890s and will be here in 1930. In 1930 he and Hannah seem to be ‘separated’ and are living separately.

Listing is 38 PA NY NY. Rand looked at it and it’s a male with a name like Amos E. Putman. No such person. May be a Patman, Pulman or one of the many other namesakes and not Putman or Putnam. Who Knows.

He is 43 OH OH OH single and boarding. I think he is with the Railroad. He is a son of Benjamin Perkins Putnam and Lydia Edgerton and was at home in 1880 in Marietta, Washington County Ohio, and here in 1900. He will still be single here in 1910 and 1920 but married by 1930. Massachusetts family originally.

He is 44 WI born Oct 1860, Helen Louisa Van Auken 28 MN born Apr 1867. They have Henry H. 1 MN. He is a son of Henry Cleveland Putnam and Jane Eliza Balcom of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. They were here in 1895, and are here in 1910.

 

HARVEY O. (OGDEN) PUTNAM  St. Paul, Ramsey County

He is 6 MN living with a Page family. Harvey is a son of Arthur Percival Putnam and Ethel Marion Brown and was born our here but the family was back in Medford, Middlesex County Massachusetts in1900. Folk got divorced and his dad is now in Boston, Massachusetts with a new wife Mary. His mom Ethel married James Murray Page and that’s who he is living with now. In 1910 they are in San Francisco and he is using the last name of Page. In 1920 he and the family are in Chicago and his name is legally changed to Harvey Ogden Page. I don’t find him later than the 1920.

He is a bookkeeper 32 MN MN MN. His wife Margaret is 29 MN and they have Harold 4 MN. He is listed as white, but there is an Israel Putnam in St. Louis County in 1910 who is listed as a Black man. Otherwise don’t find him before or after this.

He is a clerk 30 MN and boarding. If the age is really 80 MA and then he would be John Thurston Putnam who has been here since the 1860s. Age and initials are perfect. He would be a son of Miles Putnam and Rebecca Carter. Who Knows?

She is 41 VT and has George R. 18 ND, Katherine M. 9 ND and Bernice W. 4 ND. Lenna Cochrane is the widow of Frederick S. Putnam. They were in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota in 1900, and she is widowed here through 1930. Frederick was a son of Sureno James Putnam from Lewis and then Jefferson County New York. By 1860 he was in Rock County Wisconsin.

She is 29 MN NY NY a stenographer. She is single and lodging. She is a daughter of James L. and Josephine Putnam who are in Yellow River County. She was working at a State Insane Asylum in Nicollet County in 1900. She is here with her widowed mother in 1920 and 1930 and is still single.

 

CARRIE PUTNAM  Martinsburg, Renville County

She is 43 DEN widowed and has James 23 MN OH DEN, John 22 MN, Laura 17 MN, Willie (Gordon Winslow Jr.) 15 MN and Freddie 11 MN. . She is Karen Bentson, and she came to Minnesota from Denmark in the late 1870s. She married Gordon Winslow Putnam, son of Henry and Harriet Putnam from Hutchinson, McLeod County. Renville County, by the way, abuts McLeod County on the west. They were married in McLeod County and were there till the 1890s. She was widowed here in 1900. Carrie and most of the kids will be in Whitman County, Washington in 1910.

He is 60 NY VT NY and a minister. He wife Mary E. is 60 AL and they have Ada J. 33 MN and Lulu D. 28 MN. He is a son of Pliney Putnam and Flora Edgerton and was in Winona County since he was born, and then in Nobles County in 1900 and then here in 1910. By 1920 they will be in South Dakota.

He was born in Becket, Massachusetts and was at home there in 1860. They were here in Big Lake in 1895, Minneapolis in 1900, and will be in Wright County in 1910 and in Stearns County in 1920.

There is a niece Alice E. Dyke 23 MN. Then there is Nancy A. Putnam 76 MA born Feb 1829. She is Nancy Merriman the mother of Lilla Putnam. Her husband John Putnam died here October 3, 1899. She is here till she dies January 3, 1914. George is the son of Peter Putman and Patience Godfrey from Wright County. Lilla is a daughter of John Elmer Putnam and Nancy Merriman from here. Interesting. He is on the New York Dutch line and she on the New England English one. Anyway, they are here in 1910, and in Snohomish County, Washington in 1920.

He is 73 MA born Jun 1832, Mary H. Thayer 70 VT Oct 1835. Lorenzo is a son of David Putnam Jr. and his first wife Hannah Church of Beckett, Massachusetts. They have been here for ages now. I don’t find them though in 1910 so the must have died by then.

Viola M. Johnson is the second wife of Elmer Eugene Putnam from here. For some reason Elmer is listed separately now. He is here with the family in 1910 through 1930. Anyway, she is 39 MN NNY NY, Julian 20 MN, Pearl M. 18 MN, Grace 16 MN, Lester R. 5 MN, Bert L. 3 MN, Daisy A. 4/12 MN. Elmer is a son of John Elmer Putnam and Nancy Merriman from Massachusetts. He was born here and will be here till he dies November 21, 1930 at age 72. He is the local postmaster and will be forever.

Clement is a fireman 32 MI CAN CAN and his wife Agnes Murray is 26 MN ENG NY. They have Francis Joseph 1 MN and William James 6/12/MN. I can’t find him in Michigan or anywhere before this. State records have him being married first to Agnes Murray who died here in the County March 30, 1908. They had two sons Francis Joseph born October 23, 1903 and William James born December 1, 1904. He is in St. Louis County in 1930 with a new wife, but I can’t find him between now and then.

He is a traveling salesman 43 NY GER FRA. His wife Mary O’Hearn is 42 WI IRE IRE. They were here in 1900 and now have Gertrude 22 ND (listed under her married name that looks like Younge), May 18 MN, Willis 16 ND, Julia 14 MN, Myrtle 12 MN, Helen 10 MN, Arnold 3 MN and Harold 1 MN. Best guess is that he is a son of Ira and Elizabeth Putnam as shown in 1860 in Luzerne, Warren County, New York. They were here in 1900 and are here in 1910 and Mary is widowed here by 1920.

He is 27 WI CAN OH. He is a bookkeeper and is boarding. He would be a son of John Putnam and Julia Wells from Chippewa County Wisconsin. He was home there in 1880 and 1900. He will be in Koochiching County single in 1910 and married in 1920. By 1930 they are in Mason County Washington.

She is 24 WI CAN CAN and has been here 2 years. She is in a hotel or boarding house. She is not a sister of the above Eugene. Might be a wife or ex wife though.

 

NILES PUTNAM  Blooming Prairie, Steele County

He is 26 IA NY PA and a telegraph operator. His wife Edna M. Cobb is 28 IA WI WI. Niles Curtis Putnam is a son of George Putnam and Adelia Medbury from Linn County Iowa. He was at home there through 1900. I can’t find them in 1910, but he and Edna are in Winneshiek County Iowa in 1920 and in Mower County Minnesota in 1930 with a couple of children and still working for the Chicago and Milwaukee Railroad as a station manager.

 

FRED R. (REYNOLDS) PUTNAM  Morris, Stevens County

He is 37 IA – NY and his wife Eva Watkins 30 IA and their son Paul is 8 IA. He is a cashier at a bank and they will be here through 1930 at least. He is a son of William Rodman Putnam and his second wife Martha, and was born in Hardin County, Iowa. His dad is from Connecticut but went to New York and married before coming to Iowa.

Marvin died there March 25, 1866. His widow ‘Hettie’ married Seymour Barker in 1868 and Frank was with them in Winnebago County in 1870 and Freeborn County Minnesota in 1880. They were here in 1900 and will still be in 1920. They are divorced by 1930 when Frank is with his married daughter Hattie in St. Paul. New England family.

He is a son of Alonzo Putnam and Hannah Cole. He was at home in 1860 in Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire. Hiram and the family were in Wilkin County Minnesota in 1895 and here in 1900. Winnie will be in a Sanitarium in St. Paul in 1910. Hiram will be here in 1910, and will be in Minneapolis with a new wife in 1920. Young George will be in North Dakota in 1920 and in St. Paul by 1930. Young Hiram in Montana in 1920 and back in Minnesota in 1930.

He is 53 NH NH NH born Jun 1852, Ida Mae Henry 50 NH Feb 1855, Bessie E. 24 NH Aug 1880 and Charles P. 10 MN Jun 1894. He is a son of Alonzo Putnam and Hannah Cole. His brother Hiram is in town too. They were both at home in 1860 in Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire. Parker and the family were here in 1885 and 1900. They are here in 1910 and he is widowed here in 1920.

 

A. J. (ALVERS ZEBINA) PUTNAM  Minneiska, Wabasha County

He is now 73 NY MA MA and finally a retired lawyer. His wife Jennie Fuller is 72 NY and their still widowed daughter Flora Putnam Keading is 48 NY. He is a son of Pliny Putnam and Flora Egerton from Arkwright, Chautauqua County New York and Winchendon Massachusetts before that. He came out here with his folks in the mid 1850s. His dad was widowed here in 1880. Alvers will be widowed here in 1910 and then still here in 1920 at age 90.

 

ROSE PUTNAM  Watopa, Wabasha County

She is 41 WI (CAN) and has George 20 MN, Wallace 18 MN (ND), Myrtle 14 MN and Violet 10 MN. Rose Stadler has been married to William Washington Putnam here through 1900. William Washington was a son of Nahum Duncan Putnam. His dad was killed in the Civil War, and his mother married Nahum’s brother William who brought him up. He's been here since the 1860s. He married Rose Stadler here on November 1, 1881. Rose is widowed here through 1930.

 

CELIA M. PUTNAM  Zumbro Falls, Wabasha County

She is a shoemaker 64 GER (really NY). She was in Rose, Ramsey County in 1880 and said she was from New York. She is the widow of Charles Putnam as shown in 1870 in Wabasha County. She is back in St. Paul in 1910 and again says NY NY NY so this German thing is the old clerical error. Charles was a son of Lewis and Emeline Putnam from Brutus, Cayuga County New York he was home there in 1850, married to Celia in 1860 and is back with his folks in 1880 without Celia. They either got a divorce or Charles just took off. Celia is in St. Paul in 1880 through 1910 and says she is widowed. Just hated to admit to being divorced back in those days.

 

F. L. (FRANKLIN LOUIS) PUTNAM  Stillwater, Washington County

He is 29 ME ME ME and by himself or boarding. He is a son of Franklin Putnam Jr. from Houlton, Maine, and was in Minneapolis with him in 1880 and married there in 1900 and still there now and in 1910 and 1920. No idea what he is doing here. Must be on business or something.

 

ASAPH PUTNAM  Madelia, Watonwan County

He is now 66 CAN CAN CAN and a retired mail carrier. His wife Amanda Bonham is 77 VT. In 1880 he was in Chicago, Illinois, having married Amanda there in 1875. They were here in 1895 and 1900. He is widowed here in 1910, and in Blue Earth County in 1920. Not sure who his folks are.

 

SEMPHRONIAS PUTNAM  Hillsdale, Winona County

He is 77 NY MA CT, and his wife Tamer Amanda Houck 76 NY NY MA. He has been here since 1852. He is a son of Pliny Putnam and Flora Egerton from Arkwright, New York. In 1910 he and Amanda are in Ellsworth, Pierce County, Wisconsin. Their daughter Emma married Clifton Munger and moved to Wisconsin a few years ago. He lists himself as a capitalist now and back in 1900. Money Hungry guy I guess.

 

ALONZO D. (DAVIS) PUTNAM  St. Charles, Winona County

He is now 71 NY VT NY. He has now been married to Sarah Jane Ford for over 40 years. She is now 69 VT. He is a son of Pliny Putnam and Flora Edgerton of Chautauqua County, New York, and been here in Winona County since the 1850s. Sarah will die here March 25, 1912, and he will die here on April 28, 1919.

He is a farmer 62 NY born Oct 1842, Harriet Amelia Irwin his wife of 31 years is 54 IN Jun 1850, Edgar W. 31 MN Feb 1874, Earl R. 22 MN Feb 1883, Herbert 17 MN Jun 1888. He is a son of Pliny Putnam and Flora Egerton from Arkwright, Chautauqua County New York and Winchendon Massachusetts before that. He came out here with his folks in the mid 1850s. Charles was born in Arkwright, New York October 17, 1842. Charles and Harriet were married here in September 1871. They are here in 1910 and 1920.

He is a son of Silas Amos Putnam and Lucy Hayden and was here in 1880. Pliny is 59 VT VT VT born Aug 1845, Belle R. is 47 MN born Dec 1858 and Silas E. is now 32 MN Apr 1874. Silas Elmer is a son of Pliny and his first wife Laura Williams. Belle is his second wife and they were here in 1900. He was married to Laura Williams in 1880 and widowed by 1885. Pliney will be in Tampa, Florida in 1910. Silas will be married in Alberta Canada in 1911 and then back in Minnesota in 1920.

 

JAMES L. (LEROY(  PUTNAM  Granite Falls, Yellow Medicine County

He is a publisher 55 NY NY NY. His wife Josephine Vermilyea is 52 NY, and they have Ruth 18 MN and Jay L. 13 MN. James is a son of Union Putnam (2846) and Clarinda Frost of Stockton, Chautauqua County, New York. He has been here since the 70s. His dad died in 1886. He and Josephine are both here in 1910 but are divorced by then and she has the kids. In 1920 and 1930, Josephine and her daughters are in St. Paul, and Jay will be in Chippewa County, still single.

He is 41 MA MA MA, Jennie his wife of 5 years is 43 GER, Esther 16 MN. Jennie was married before, and Esther is from her first marriage. He is Frank Harwood Putnam, born February 1, 1869 in Sutton, Mass. He is a son of Peter Holland and Harriet Augusta Putnam. His folks are still back there. He was single in Duluth in 1900 and single here in 1905. He and Jennie are here in 1920 and 1930.

She is 73 NY and now widowed. She lives with her widowed daughter Clara Davis 52 IL. She is the widow of Mortimer Samuel Putnam from Oswego County, New York. They have been here since the 1870s.

He is 52 VT VT VT. His wife of 16 years Jennie Rector is 42 NY, Harold is 15 MN and Alice Elicia 12 MN. He was born January 9, 1857 in Grafton, Vermont, a son of John Henry Putnam (2825) and Alice Augusta Eddy. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920. He is a State Senator.

She is Harriet Jane Willard and is 47 IL and now widowed. Her kids are Persis 21 WI, Katerina 20 WI, Rufus W. (William) 18 WI, Harriet 17 WI, Mary A. 12 WI, Janet 11 WI, and Emily 5 WI. She was here in 1900 and 1905 married to William Rice Putnam who has died in the last few years. William was a son of Rufus Putnam and Mary Herskell and was born in Clark County, Ohio. Jane and a couple of the daughters will be in Urbana, Champaign County, Illinois in 1920.

He is 32 MN MA MA. Marie C. Jorgenson his wife of 6 years is 27 MN DEN DEN, and they have Frank R. 1 9/12 MN. He is a son of William Herrick Putnam and his first wife Adeline Rowell from here in Red Wing. He was home here in 1900, and in 1920 will still be here with more kids. By 1930 they are in St. Paul.

He is 62 MA MA and President of the local Bank. Nellie L. Butts is his second wife, and they have been married 16 years now. She is 50 NY, Mary P. 35 MN, Frederick W. 25 MN, and Richard H. 8 MN. He is number 3193, son of William Richardson Putnam number 1542. He married Nellie here on July 10, 1894. His first wife Adeline Rowel had died in 1890. He’s been here since the 1860s and will be in 1920 too. OBITS has the son Richard born July 15, 1901 and died in Minneapolis September 6, 1981.

 

EDWARD T. PUTMAN  Excelsior, Hennepin County

He is 70 NY NY NY and lists himself as single. He came here in about 1902 and was alone here in 1905. He has a nephew Edward M. Putman 34 NY, Edith his wife of 11 years is 35 NY and their son J. Kingsley 8 NY. Edward is a son of Ralph Lewis Putman and Jane Voorhes from Montgomery County New York. Edward Mahlon is a son of Mahlon Ralph and Amanda Putman. Mahlon and Edward T. were brothers. This whole group will head back to New York. Edward T. will die there in 1919 and young Edward and that family are in Hamilton County New York in 1920. Edith will be here till she dies June 23, 1960. He is 40 IL NY VT. Hattie Miller his wife of 18 years is 39 IL, Richard A. 16 IL, Frances J. 13 IL and Robert E. 3 MN. Also here is his widowed mother Laura Austin Putnam 73 VT. He is a son of Parker Putnam and Laura Austin of Peoria County, Illinois. He was home there in 1880 and was in Peoria in 1900 and here in 1905 with Hattie and the first two children, and will be here in 1920.

He is 57 WI NY CAN. Mary Johnson his wife of 25 years is now 55 NORWAY. He is a son of Charles Wesley Putnam and Ellen Coyle. He was born February 6, 1853 in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. He married Mary in Dell Rapids, South Dakota July 1881. They were here in 1900.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Minneapolis W5, Hennepin County

He is 50 MA MA VT and now widowed. In 1900 and 1905 he was married to Mary Christian from Switzerland. She has died but her father John Christian 67 and widowed is still with them. Frank’s daughter Alice 25 MN is still here, and now his widowed mother Mary 75 VT is here as well. Frank is a son of Lorenzo and Mary H. Putnam. He was born in Becket, Berkshire, Massachusetts.

He is 65 MA ME ENG, and his wife of 17 years Emily L. is 75 MI. She is his second wife. They were here in 1900. He is Franklin Junior, a son of Franklin Putnam and Mary Rice from Houlton, Maine and then here in Minneapolis by the 1860s. He was widowed by 1880, and then married Emily in 1892. Franklin will die here in Minneapolis on May 30, 1919. Emily will die here January 7, 1917.

He is 64 NY and his second wife Mary Ann 49 MA. They have been married 9 years, second for both. In 1900 he was married to Nellie Fletcher and here in Minneapolis. George will die here November 26, 1913.

He is listed wrongly as James Putnam, but is George Hall and is 49 MN MA MA and on his second marriage of 4 years to Lilla Genevieve Hendrixson 43 OH. He has Gladys 23 MN, George 15 MN and Dorothy 3 MN. George is a son of George Whitmore Putnam from Anoka County. He was there in 1870 and 1880. He was widowed here in 1900 with Gladys and George. The James is a typo. He and Lilla are here in 1920, and he is properly listed as George then. George was born in Anoka in 1861 and will die here March 11, 1946. Lilla is a daughter of Henry Roe Hendrixson and Harriett Ellen McMillen and was born in Neville, Ohio January 29, 1867 and will die here in Hennepin County June 14, 1933.

The family was in Will County, Illinois from 1860 through 1880 and then in Chicago. He has been here married since the 1880s. He is 30 WI NY WI. He is single and boarding. He was single in Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin in 1900. He is Frank Ransom Putnam and is the son of Fred Putnam and Cynthia Eldridge. He was born March 15, 1881 in Poysippi, Waushara County Wisconsin so missed the 1880 census by a few months. He is never shown at home but his parents are in Richfield, Wood County, Wisconsin in 1900. New England gang. He is married to Helen Eager here in Hennepin County in 1910, 1920 and 1930. He and Helen are in Bruno Township, Pine County Minnesota in 1940 and he will die back in Parkers Lake, Wisconsin October 20, 1951. He married Helen Mary Eager in Minneapolis September 25, 1911.

 

MYRTLE & RICHARD PUTMAN  Park Rapids, Hubbard County

She is 6 MN MN IA and he is 2 MN MN MI. They live with Frank and Mary Kidd. They are both living with Andrew and Sarah Putman here in 1920. They are most likely kids of his brother Frederick Ellsworth Putnam. Richard’s full name is Richard Ellsworth. He will be with Andre here in 1920 and in Washington DC after that.

He is 41 MN NH WI. He is single and boarding. He is Willard’s son and is also listed as single in Beltrami County now. Andrew is a son of Willard Putnam from NH. He was here in 1900, but was born back in Douglas County. He is married here in 1920.

He is 27 MN NH WI. He has his sister Edith 19 MN NH WI. More of Willard’s kids. They were both here at home in 1900. Charles was in Beltrami County in 1905 and his brother Andrew is there now.

He is 50 NY CAN NY. Anna Elsie Stevenson his wife of 16 years is 48 NORWAY. Ida is 15 MN, Orpha S. 13 MN, Gordon W. (William) 7 MN and Anna E. 6 MN. He is a son of William Gordon Putnam and Sarah Sheldon of Lisbon, St. Lawrence County New York. His dad was from Canada. He and Annie were here in 1900. He will die here June 15, 1916. Orpha is in St. Paul in 1920, but no idea where the rest are. Gordon is in Minneapolis in 1930 and 1940 though.

She is 28 MN and states she is married and has been for 9 years. She was here in 1905 with the kids too. She has twin daughters Hattie and May 7 MN. They are living with her folks Mathias and Lottie Hanson from Norway. She and the kids are here in 1920 too. There was an Edward Putnam living alone here in 1900. He was born in Illinois and the kids are listed MN IL MN so it would be him. She is still here with the kids in 1920 and in Minneapolis in 1930.

 

ELIZABETH J. PUTNAM  Hallock Township, Kittson County

She is 80 CAN and widowed. She is living with her daughter Cora 40 CAN CAN CAN and her husband Alfred Sippel 49 CAN. She is Elizabeth Jane Edison, now the widow of Martin Mulford Putnam from Eligin East County in Ontario. She and Cara and Martin were there in 1881. Dutch family from New York originally. See the 1881 Canadian Census for his line. Elizabeth was his second wife. They were married back in Ontario in 1857.

He is a son of Henry and Caroline Putnam. He was born in Sherburne County, in Stearns County in 1870, and here in 1880 and 1900, and will be here in 1920.

He is 33 MN MA MA born Nov. 1876. His wife Mary Clow Pattille is 32 PA PA OH and they have Doritha 4 MN. Mary’s widowed mother Emma Pattille is 72 OH. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Caroline Newton originally from Sutton, Mass. They were out here in Sherburne County in 1860, Stearns in 1870 and here by 1880. He was here in 1900 with his mother who was by then a widow. They are here through 1940.

Helen and the kids are in Volusia County Florida in 1920. The daughter Katherine Louise Putnam was born April 27, 1906 and will marry William B. Schrauff.

He is a son of John Elmer Putnam and Nancy Merriman from Massachusetts. They will be here still in 1920 and 1930. Viola is a daughter of Peter Putman and Patience Godfrey from the New York Poutman/Putman Dutch line. She was at home here in Wright County in 1870. She was previously married to a Johnson guy. Elmer was born here in Big Lake October 3, 1857 and will die here November 21, 1930. Viola was born June 10, 1868 in Silver Creek, Wright County Minnesota and will die here in Big Lake December 1, 1948.

George is the son of Peter Putman and Patience Godfrey from Wright County as shown there in 1870 and 1880. Lilla is a daughter of John Elmer Putnam from here. They were here in 1900 and will be in Snohomish County, Washington by 1920.

He is 23 MN MN CAN and single. He lives with his ‘mother’ Carrie 42 CAN, who has just married Joseph McDonald. Julian is a son of Eugene Elmer Putnam from here in Big Lake. He was home with him in 1900 here. I think the listing calling him a son is wrong, probably a ‘servant.’ Census guy probably wrote ‘ser’ and it was interpreted as ‘son. At any rate Carrie is not his mommy.

Marvin was a son of John Wellington Putnam and Minerva Scott from New York and then here in Winnebago County. Marvin died there March 25, 1866. His widow ‘Hettie’ married Seymour Barker in 1868 and Frank was with them in Winnebago County in 1870 and Freeborn County Minnesota in 1880. They were here in 1900 and will still be in 1920. They are divorced by 1930 when Frank is with his married daughter Hattie in St. Paul. New England family.

He is 33 NH NH NH, Jennie Johnson his brand new second wife is 20 NORWAY, and Walter Donald Putnam, his son from his first marriage to Jennie Olson, is 11 MN. He is a son of Parker Alonzo Putnam and Ida May Henry, and was here with them in the 1890s. He was in Stutsman County, North Dakota in 1900 with his first wife Jenny Olson also from Norway. His folks are still here and listed shortly. Actually looks like they may be in the same house, or at least next door. Walter was born November 13, 1898 and will die in Wilkin County June 5, 1961.

He is 53 NH NH NH, Winnie Williams, his wife of 27 years, is now 50 NH, and they have Fred (George Frederick) 19 MN, Alonzo 16 MN and Hiram 12 MN. Winnie’s widowed mother Leslie Williams 69 NH is with them. Winnie is also listed in a sanitarium in St. Paul now as well. Hiram will be in Minneapolis with a new wife in 1920. Young George will be in North Dakota in 1920 and in St. Paul by 1930. Young Hiram in Montana in 1920 and back in Minnesota in 1930. He is a son of Alonzo Putnam and Hannah Cole from Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire.

They are in Ransom County, North Dakota in 1920 and 1930. He is a son of Walter E. Putnam and Mary Eva True. His dad died in the 1890s here and his mom remarried Elsworth Dwella and they were all in Todd County in 1900. His dad was a son of Alonzo Putnam and Hannah Cole from Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire, and a brother to the above Parker and Hiram Putnam.

He was home there in 1900 and will be here in 1920. Edgar married Lelia August 14, 1907 here in Wabasha County. OBITS has the son Ray born December 24, 1909 and died here in Elgin in December 1985. Edgar Worthy was born February 19, 1874 and will in Olmstead County May 22, 1955.

He is now 80 NY MA CT and widowed since Jennie Fuller his wife has died. He is a Lawyer. His widowed daughter Flora Kading 60 NY is with him as she was in 1880 and 1900. He is a son of Pliny Putnam and Flora Egerton from Arkwright, Chautauqua County New York and Winchendon Massachusetts before that. He came out here with his folks in the mid 1850s. His dad was widowed here in 1880. Alvers was an attorney and will be here in 1920 at age 90.

He is 72 CAN and now widowed as Amanda Bonham has died here August 30, 1909. His sister Mary Ann Wood 67 CAN and her husband Thomas M. Wood 79 ENG are now living with him. He will be in Blue Earth County in 1920 and back here in 1930. He is Asaph Ezra son of Joel Stokes Putnam and Lovilla Church from Leeds, Kent County Ontario. Asaph was born December 2, 1837 and will die here April 12, 1930. He married Julia Ann Stewart November 15, 1863. She was previously married to a Barshaw who died in 1852 and then to a Stewart. Julia died in Chicago February 22, 1875. Asaph married Amanda C. Frisbey in Chicago August 8, 1875. They were there in 1870 and 1880 and here in Madelia, Watonwan County Minnesota by 1900. Amanda was the daughter of Loton Leroy Frisby and Rhoda Mallory and was born in Vermont November 22, 1828. Amanda Married William Francis Cook in Connecticut December 14, 1851. He died August 3, 1852 and she married George Washington Bonham about 1856 and the separated. She married Asaph August 8, 1875.

 

ALONZO D. (DAVIS) PUTNAM  St. Charles, Winona County

He is now 75 NY VT NY. He has now been married to Sarah Jane Ford for over 44 years. She is now 74 VT. He is a son of Pliny Putnam and Flora Edgerton of Chautauqua County, New York, and been here in Winona County since the 1850s. Sarah will die here March 25, 1912, and he will die here on April 28, 1919.

He is now 67 NY MA NY, and has been married to Harriet Amelia Irwin for 36 years now. She is 57 IN and only Herbert 21 MN is still at home. Been here since the very early 1870s. He is a son of Pliny Putnam and Flora Edgerton from Arkwright, New York. Charles will die here January 3, 1928.

He is 23 ND NY NY, his wife of 2 years Grace M. Gage is 22 MN MN MN and they have Douglas E. 1 MN. He is a son of William Washington Putnam and Rose Stadler from Wabasha County. His family went briefly (1884-86) to North Dakota where Wallace was born. They were all back here in Wabasha County by 1887, and here for the 1900 census. He is Wallace Charles Putnam born October 7, 1886 and will die here August 12, 1966. They are here in 1920 and 1930 and longer. Grace was born December 4, 1887 and will die in Wabasha County July 19, 1968.

They were in Minneapolis in 1900 and will be in Stearns County in 1920. He has a son Arthur who was with him in 1900 and will be again in 1920, but is off someplace now it seems.

He was in Duluth, St. Louis County single in 1900, and married here in 1910. They are here in 1930. He is the postmaster.

He is 28 MN and boarding with James O'Connor. He is a son of James L. and Josephine from Yellow Medicine County. He was there in 1900 and 1910. Mom is now widowed in St. Paul. OBITS has him born September 29, 1891 and died in Spicer Minnesota in March 1986. He will marry Myrtle Covell in Yellow Medicine County in 1923 and they are there in Granite City in 1930.

 

EARNEST PUTNAM  Lindstrom, Chisago County

He is a son of Eugene Elmer Putnam of Sherburne County. He is now 34 MN, Jessie Clark 33 WI, Herschel 12 ND and a daughter Avis 10 ND. I don’t know where the folks were in 1910, but the two kids were in Sherburne County in 1910 with Jessie’s folks, Elijah and Ada Clark. OBITS has Herschel born May 24, 1907 and died in Elk River Minnesota in September 1979.

His mother Laura Hill is 26 MN.  Laura was married to Percival Putnam from Canada in Bayfield County Wisconsin in 1910. They were divorced as he is in Douglas County Wisconsin in 1920 with another wife. These folks are in Cass County in 1930. OBITS has Walter born February 6, 1912 and died in Pine River Crow Wing County April 16, 1977.

He is Frank Daniel, a son of William Herrick Putnam, and was born here. He is now 42 MN, Marie Jorgenson 37 MN, Frank 11 MN, Catherine 9 MN, Adeline 6 MN, Ruth 2 11/12 MN and Susanna 1 11/12 MN. They were married here in 1910. The son Frank will be in the U. S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1930.

He is a son of William Herrick Putnam and Adeline Rowle, and was here at home in 1900. He is now 35 MN, Margaret Bunting 30 VA, Margaret 5 6/12 MN, Mary 4 0/12 MN and Frederick junior 2 6/12 MN. He is a lawyer and will be in Minneapolis in 1930.

He's been here since the 1860s. He is now 71 MA, Nellie Butts, his second wife is 59 NY, Richard 18 MN, and a daughter Mary 44 MN. Also there is Nellie's mother Mary Butts 84 NY. He is a bank president.

He is 52 IL, Hattie K Miller his wife, 50 IL, Richard A. 26 IL, Frances J. 23 IL and Robert E. 13 MN. He is a son of Parker Putnam and Laura Austin of Peoria County, Illinois. He was home there in 1880 and was in Peoria in 1900 with Hattie and the first two children, and here in 1910 as was his widowed mother.

He is 25 MN, Esther 25 MN. He is a son of Hiram and Winnie from New Hampshire. He was born in Traverse County and was there with his folks in 1900.

He was here in 1900. He is now 66 IL, Emma Holmes 62 OH. He’ll be here till he dies January 30, 1941. Dutch family out of New York.

He is a son of David Lorenzo Putnam and Mary E. Turnbull, and was born here in Minneapolis January 1, 1886. He is now 34 MN, his wife Jeanette Frosted is 29 MN. He will die here May 18, 1925.

He is 65 NY, Lucretia Nichols his wife 61 NY. They are living with their daughter Ann Eliza and her husband Ira M. Cook. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is a son of Edward Alexander Putman and Mehitable Anderson and was born in DePeyster, St. Lawrence County New York. Dutch family.

 

FRANK H. (HOWARD) PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 53 IA, Maud Pickthal his wife 41 ENG and Eleanor L. 15 SD. He is a son of Charles Edward Putnam and Mary Ellen Fawcett from Nashua, New Hampshire. He was born in Linn County, Iowa and was there with his folks in 1870 and 1880 and with his wife Maude there in 1900. He was in Kane County Illinois in 1910, and I don’t know where Maud was. They will get divorced soon. She and Eleanor are in Los Angeles and Frank is remarried here in 1930.

 

FRANK J. PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 60 MA and his daughter Alice Eaton is 34 MA. He was here and married to Mary Christian in 1900, and widowed by 1910. He is a son of Lorenzo and Mary H. Putnam who are also here in Minneapolis. He was born in Becket, Berkshire, Massachusetts, and will die here in Minneapolis January 7, 1929.

 

FRED A. (ALFRED) PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 73 NY and living at the State Soldiers Home. He is Frederick Alfred Putnam the son of Barney Putnam and Margaret Burkhart and was born in about 1846 in Mount Morris, Livingston County New York and was at home with his folks in 1850 at age 4. He was with his folks in Argentine, Genesee County Michigan in 1860. His dad died January 8, 1865 in Washtenaw, Michigan. I don’t find him, but he married Jennie Baker in Omaha, Nebraska November 13, 1892. She was previously married to a Kreppo fella. Dutch family out of Montgomery County New York.

 

GEORGE H. (HALL) PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He was here in 1900 and 1910. He married Della Sowden in Anoka December 28, 1884. She died April 15, 1899 and he widowed back in 1900. He then married Lilla Genevieve Hendrixson in 1905. He is 58 MN, Lilla 52 OH. Daughters are Gladys 32 MN and H. Dorothy 13 MN. He is a son of George W. Putnam of Anoka County where he was born in 1861 and will die here March 11, 1946. Lilla is a daughter of Henry Roe Hendrixson and Harriett Ellen McMillen and was born in Neville, Ohio January 29, 1867 and will die here in Hennepin County June 14, 1933. He and Lilla were here in 1910 and had been married for just 4 years then. They are here in 1930.

 

GEORGE Y. PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 55 IL, Minnie Leighton 41 MN and they have Maurice 12 NE. He is a son of Hollis and Charlotte Putman, and was born in Will County, Illinois. They were here in 1910. Dutch family from Montgomery County, New York. Minnie is widowed here in 1930.

 

HARRY B. (BROWER) PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 39 IL, Blanche D. Beck his wife is 37 IA. Her mother, Mary Beck 65 NY, lives with them. Harry is a son of Abraham Putman from here. The family is Dutch. See the 1900. All three are here in 1930. They were just married here in 1900.

 

HART C. (CHARLES) PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

Another of Abraham and Emma's sons. Hart is 38 IL, Corinne 38 MN. They were married here in 1910 too. He was with his folks here in 1900. They are the suburb of Island Park in 1930.

 

HENRY J. PUTMAN  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 54 NY, Annette Stiles 52 WI. Also there is her mom, Georgiana Stiles 85 ME. Henry is a son of John Putnam from New York and has been here since the 1870s. He and Annette will be in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1930.

 

HIRAM PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 64 NH, Emily Kirkpatrick 54 MN. Hiram has been in Traverse County a while, and was married to Winnie Williams who would be 60 NH by now. Emily is new. To make it more interesting, the Hiram who was in Traverse County is still there and appears as widowed. He is Hiram Morgan Putnam a son of Alonzo Whipple Putnam and Hannah Cole from Haverhill, Grafton County New Hampshire. He was shown there as Hiram in 1860 and 1870 and gone by 1880. This marriage doesn’t last long and Emily is single in 1930 and admits divorce in 1940.

 

KIRK M. PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 49 KS, Martha M. Ellis 50 WI, Julia L. 22 WI, Ruth A. 17 WI, Robert B. 14 WI. His mother Julia B. Putnam 84 VT is living with him. He is a son of Robert Putnam from Massachusetts. He was born in Leavenworth, Leavenworth County Kansas and was with his folks in 1880. In 1900, the family was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as were his parents. They are in Burbank California in 1930. The son Robert will remain here until he dies June 17, 1949.

 

LORENZO D. (DAVID) PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

They were here back in 1880 and here ever since. He is now 65 MA, Mary E. Turnbull his wife is 62 IL, Irving L. 37 MN, Edith E. 38 MN and Roy W. 32 MN. The George in St. Paul may be his eldest son. He is a son of Lorenzo and Mary H. Putnam. He is Lorenzo Junior, and was born in Becket, Berkshire County Massachusetts. He will die here in Minneapolis March 23, 1924. Mary is widowed in 1930 and Edith is still unmarried and living with her.

He is 45 ME, Lillian 42 MN and Vera L. is 19 MN. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is a son of Franklin Putnam Jr. from here.

 

MARY P. PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

She is 45 MN and lodging with Allie J. Rowell. She was not shown in the 1900 census, so may be someone's widow. I think she is a daughter of William Herrick Putnam and Mary Adeline Rowell. Her mother died in 1890, so Allie may be a relative of sorts, but not her mommy.

NED PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 62 PA, Frances Callie Frost 37 VA, Harriet 15 MN and a lodger. He was here in 1900 and 1910. See the 1900 listing for who he is. He owns a saloon, Put’s Bar, and also used to drive horse drawn cabs. He will die here in 1938. Harriet will marry Frederick Hartgen and live in Branford, Connecticut.

 

ROBERT E. (EDWARD) LEE PUTNAM, JR.  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 26 KY, Lucille F. Appel 23 WI, Elizabeth 1/12 MN. Also there is Lucille's mother, Pearle Appel 43 WI. He is a son of Robert E. Lee Putnam of Bell County, KY and was there in 1900 and 1910. They are in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1930. Massachusetts family originally. Robert Senior was a son of Alpheus George Putnam, who was a son of George Washington Putnam II and grandson of the elder George Washington who was a son of Israel Putnam II and Sarah Waldo of Pomfret, Connecticut. They are in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1940 and he will register for the draft there in 1942 and be in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the City Directory of 1959. He will die in Santa Fe in February 1974.

 

RUTH PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

She is 23 MA MA MA single and boarding. She is a teacher at a dancing school. Ruth Marion Putnam is a daughter of Henry Flavius Putnam and Bertha May Paine. Her folks were at home in 1900 in Springfield Massachusetts. Don’t find her in 1930, but she will marry Frederick Arnold Fjerstad December 25, 1936 as an obvious dual Christmas Present to each other. They are in Red Wing, Goodhue County Minnesota in 1940. Then sadly she will die there October 20, 1941.

 

STEPHEN A. PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 27 MN PA MI and his wife Myrtle Laier is 25 ND DEN MI. He is with his widowed mother Lydia in Polk County Wisconsin in 1895 and 1900. In 1925 they are in Linn County Iowa. He states his folks are Israel Putman and Lydia Armstrong from Pennsylvania. He is married there in 1930 and says his dad is from England, mom from Michigan. He is also presently alone in Trail County North Dakota where his wife Myrtle is from. He will die here in Hennepin County September 21, 1935. Pretty sure Israel was the son of Pliney and Martha Putnam as shown in the 1857 census of Rice County Minnesota. He and his folks were from Pennsylvania and Stephen was born in Minnesota.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Minneapolis, Hennepin County

He is 40 SD, Emma Alma Buisson 30 MN. Also there is her mother Mary Buisson 65 NY and her sister Etta 41 MN. He is William Edward Putnam, and was in Lac Qui Parle County with his folks in 1880. The family then moved to South Dakota and his dad Hosea Ballou Putnam died there in 1894. I don’t find the family there in 1900 however. His uncle Kitterage Putnam was there though. They are here in 1930.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Hennepin County

He is 38 WI, Helen Eager 26 MN, Frances 6 MN and Eugene 1 3/12 MN. He is Frank Ransom Putnam and is the son of Fred Putnam and Cynthia Eldridge. He was born March 15, 1881 in Poysippi, Waushara County Wisconsin so missed the 1880 census by a few months. He is never shown at home but his parents are in Richfield, Wood County, Wisconsin in 1900. New England gang. He is married to Helen Eager here in Hennepin County in 1910, 1920 and 1930. He and Helen are in Bruno Township, Pine County Minnesota in 1940 and he will die back in Parkers Lake, Wisconsin October 20, 1951. He married Helen Mary Eager in Minneapolis September 25, 1911.

 

FREDERICK PUTNAM  Hennepin County

He is 32 NE, Olga 33 GER. He is a son of Willis and Anna Putnam (from NY) and was with then in 1900 in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. He and Olga are in St. Paul in 1930.

 

SILAS E. (ELMER) PUTMAN  Hennepin County

He is Pliney Dewey Putnam's son and was at home in Wright County in 1900. He is now 46 MN, Florence Ellis 39 ENG, Norcross W. 7 CAN, Max E. 8 CAN and Cuthbert 5 CAN. He obviously took a little trip across the border before moving back here. He was in Red Deer Alberta in the 1911 census. He will die here April 20, 1949. OBITS has Florence born December 17, 1880 and dying in Minneapolis in July 1966.

 

FRED PUTMAN  Caledonia, Houston County

He is 41 WI and an inmate at the Houston County Almshouse. He is the son of Jacob Putman and Mary Frances Marr of Wautoma, Waushara County, Wisconsin. He was home there in 1880, and in Sayerville, Waukesha County, Wisconsin in 1900, and in Monroe County, Wisconsin in 1910. He never married, and hasn’t been doing too well it seems. He will be here still in 1930 and 1940. He was born June 6, 1878 in Wisconsin and will die July 15, 1945. Dutch family.

 

LEVI PUTNAM  Park Rapids, Hubbard County

He is 54 NY and lives alone except for a housekeeper. He was here in 1900, see that listing for more info. He is a son of Lewis and Lavinia Putman and was in Olmstead County with them in 1880.

 

ANDREW PUTNAM  Hubbard County

He is 46 MN, Sarah J. 46 CAN. There are two kinfolk, Myrtle A. 16 MN niece and Richard E. (Ellsworth) 12 MN nephew. These are kids of his brother Frederick Ellsworth. He was not here in the 1910 census. Fred’s wife Mabel died in 1901 and the two kids were ‘boarding’ with a Kidd family here in 1910. Andrew is a son of Willard Putnam from NH. He was here in 1900, but was born back in Douglas County. He was single in Beltrami County in 1910, and also listed as single here in 1910 too. Richard will be married in Washington DC in 1930 and 1940. Andrew is here in 1930 and has his father Willard with him then.

 

ANNA PUTNAM  Deer River, Itasca County

She is 16 MN and boarding with David D. Cameron. She would be the daughter of William Russell Putnam and Anna Elsie Stevenson and was shown at home in 1910 at age 6 MN in White Oak Township, Hubbard County.

 

GEORGIANA PUTNAM  Willmar, Kandiyohi County

She is 38 MN, Hattie 17 MN, May 17 MN. Also there are two nephews, Donald and Harry W. Ottos. She was living with her folks here in 1910. There was an Edward Putnam living alone here in 1900. He was born in Illinois and the kids are listed MN IL MN so it would be him. She and the girls are in Minneapolis in 1930.

He is 42 WI, Ellen 26 MN, and Adeline 2 1/12 MN. He is a son of John Putnam and Julia Adelene Wells. He was born in Auburn, Chippewa County, Wisconsin and was at home there in 1880 and 1900. He was single in St. Louis County in 1905 and here in 1910. They are all in Mason County, Washington in 1930.

 

FRANK E. (ERNEST) PUTNAM  Lac qui Parle County

He is 60 IL, and widowed. He has these children, Jennie L. 36 SD, Ernest 28 SD, Carol E. 7 WA. Well, he's been here, done that and all such. He is a son of Kitterage Putnam and was born in Kane County, Illinois in 1859 and was there in 1860. In 1880 he was here in Lac qui Parle County with his dad. In 1900 he and his wife Maggie Houck were in Grant County, South Dakota. They were back here in 1910. His son Charlie is still back in South Dakota. He will marry Nelie Mable Longworth soon on June 19, 1920 and they  will be in Hubbard County in 1930.

 

FLOYD PUTMAN  Eden Valley, Meeker County

He is 31 MN, Rose 39 MN. He is a son of Frank and Hannah Putnam from Otter Tail County. He was at home there in 1910 and will be with Rose in Stearns County in 1930 where he is a dentist.

 

WILLIAM HENRY PUTMAN  Little Falls, Morrison County

He is 52 MN, Minnie Hatch his wife is 47 MN, Goldie 25 MN, William jr. 23 WI, Sidney 20 MN, Ada 18 MN, Leota and Leola twins 14 MN, J. Stanley 11 MN and Mary 8 MN. He is a son of John Elmer, and was in Sherburne County from the time he was born through the 1910 census, except for that short jaunt into Wright County in 1895 and then to Wisconsin for two years. They are here in 1930.

He is 42 MN and rooming with George Eayers. He is Lewis' son and was here with a wife Lillie in 1900 and 1910. They were probably divorced as both she and a son who would be 18 now are gone.

Mary Carlson is 43 MN, Charles E. 20 MN. She is the widow of Charles Putman and was here in 1900 and 1910 with him. Charles is married here in 1930, but I don’t find Mary.

She is 23 MN and boarding with John Thompson. She is a daughter of Herbert Asa and was at home here in 1900.

He is 60 MN, Hannah Robinson, his wife, 52 WI, and Birdella L. 22 MN. He is Luman's son and was here in 1900 and 1910. He was born in Wright County.  They are here but living separately in 1930. New England family. Sutton, Massachusetts to Stockton, New York and out here.

He is a son of Henry and Caroline Putnam, and was born in Sherburne County. He is now 53 MN, Celia J. Oakes 54 MN, Henry O. 27 MN, Helen 25 MN, Carrie D. 23 MN, Everett H. 20 MN, Alfred T. (Tyler) 18 MN and Kenneth H. 16 MN. Been here since the 1870s. He will die here August 24, 1924.

He is a son of Frank Putnam and was here at home in 1900. He is 33 MN, Minnie Larson his wife 32 MN, Aileen 3 6/12 MN and Frank J. 1 MN. They are here in 1930 too.

 

SAMUEL T. (TYLER) PUTNAM  Otter Tail County

He is 43 MN, Mary Clow Patelle his wife 42 PA, Dorothy 14 MN, Ruth C. 6 MN, Paul 1/12 MN. His sister Mary A. Putnam 60 MA is with them. He is a son of Henry Putnam and Caroline Newton originally from Sutton, Mass. They were out here in Sherburne County in 1860, Stearns in 1870 and here by 1880. He was here in 1900 with his mother who was by then a widow. They are all here in 1930.

 

WORTHY L. (LUMAN) PUTNAM  Otter Tail County

He is 27 MN, Florence Schreiner, his wife, 27 MN and young Worthy L. Jr. is 2 8/12 MN. He is a son of Frank Putnam and Hannah Robinson and was born here. He was at home in 1900 and they are all here in 1930. New England family. Sutton, Massachusetts to Stockton, New York and out here.

 

ELIZABETH PUTNAM  Pine County

Elizabeth Bowen is the widow of Charles Henry Putnam. They were in Wright County in 1880 and in Kanabec County in 1900, and she was widowed there in 1910. She is 68 CAN, Frank her son is 34 MN. Dutch family from New York.

 

LEE H. (HOWARD) PUTNAM  Pine County

He is 38 MN, Mary Sell 30 MN, Lawrence 12 MN, Alice E. 10 MN, Agnes 8 MN, Luella 6 MN, Floyd 3 3/12 MN and Leona 11/12 MN. He is a son of Charles Henry Putnam and Elizabeth Bowen. Lee and Mary were in Kanabec County in 1910. Pine and Kanabec Counties abut each other up in the middle of nowhere. OBITS has the son Floyd Emanuel as being born August 6, 1916 and died in Hinckley Minnesota in November 1986.

She is 16 MN and boarding with Robert J. McVeigh. She is a daughter of Frank P. Putnam. She was at home with them in Todd County and is also listed there now.

He is 34 OH, Bess Whipple 31 MN and Lucius 6 MN. He is David Ramsey Putnam, son of David E. Putnam and Susan Ramsey and was born in Montgomery Township, Franklin County, Ohio. His family is from Massachusetts. David E. Putnam was a son of Charles Marsh Putnam from Licking County, Ohio. Charles was born in Licking County February 23, 1842. He was a real estate broker in Columbus. He married Addie Elizabeth Wheeler in 1865. She died in 1875, and he married Susan Euphemia Ramsey in New Lisbon, Ohio August 27, 1879. They are here in 1930.

He was here in 1900, and is a son of Benjamin Perkins Putnam from Marietta, Ohio. Massachusetts folks. Doug is now 59 OH, Florence Boyd his wife 50 OH. They have just been married 2 years. Late for both of them. They are here in 1930 too.

He is 59 NH, Lillian 52 ENG (CAN). He is Edwin Caleb Putnam. He is a son of Edwin Lombard Putnam and Emaline Wright from Cheshire County New Hampshire. His wife is Lillian Aurelia. They are here in 1930. Edwin will die here in St. Paul February 3, 1937. Lillian is widowed here in 1940.

He is 53 NY, Lena B. 47 MI, Ethel M. 26 MI and Alma 14 MI. He was listed Frank L. in Bay County, Michigan, and Jennie or Lena was there as well. There were a couple of 13 year old Franks in Michigan in 1880, so I won't 'guess the line back' any further. He will die here however on March 21, 1938.

She is 21 MN and lodging here. She is a daughter of Franklin Putnam of Todd County. She is also listed at home with her folks in Todd County.

She is 64 GER. She is the widow of Sumner Putnam and was here in 1900 and 1910. She lives with her daughter Lyda Vogt and her husband Anthony G. Vogt as she was in 1910.

He is 65 NY, Josephine L. Michand his wife is 51 MN, Pearl 9 MN. Also there is their daughter Myrtle Reed 24 MN and her husband George Reed 32 WI. There is a Beatrice Becker 12 MN listed as great niece (actually granddaughter was with her divorced mother Edna Putnam Becker in 1910). The family was in Minneapolis in 1900 and 1910. He is widowed back across the river there in 1930. He is a son of Hollis and Charlotte Putnam from Montgomery County, New York and then Will County, Illinois. Josephine will die in Minneapolis (probably in a hospital) on September 6, 1926.Dutch folks.

She is Josephine Vermilyea 66 NY, and she is the ex-wife of James L. Putnam, and was married in Yellow Medicine County in 1900. She was there in 1910 but divorced at that point. She lives with her daughters Pearl A. 44 MN, and Ruth 34 MN. They are all here in 1930 and she says she is then a widow. Pearl was born August 29, 1875 and will die in Yellow Medicine County January 22, 1963.

Lena Cochrane is the widow of Frederick S. Putnam. They were in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota in 1900, and she was widowed here in 1905 and 1910. She is 53 VT and her daughter Bernice is 19 ND. There is also a boarder. Her son George also lives here in St. Paul and was listed earlier. Lenna is here in 1930, but Bernice will be in the Minnesota Hospital for the Insane in 1930.

 

LOUISE H. PUTNAM  St. Paul, Ramsey County

She is 75 NY and listed as mother in law of Albert A. Pollard. She looks to be Louise Howell, widow of Samuel Porter Putnam, son of Rufus Austin (1329). She and her daughter Grace were in Boston in 1900. Looks as if Grace married and the all came out here together. Neither are in Boston or Massachusetts now at any rate.

 

NORMAN PUTNAM  St. Paul, Ramsey County

He is 22 KY, Mabel 21 MN. He is a son of Robert E. Lee Putnam of Bell County, Kentucky. He was there in 1900 and 1910. His brother Robert E. Lee, junior is across the river in Minneapolis. The family is originally from Massachusetts, and then settled near Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky in the early 1800s. Robert Senior was a son of Alpheus George Putnam, who was a son of George Washington Putnam II and grandson of the elder George Washington who was a son of Israel Putnam II and Sarah Waldo of Pomfret, Connecticut.

 

ORPHA PUTNAM  St. Paul, Ramsey County

She is 23 MN and a 'servant' with Harvey Raymer. She is a daughter of William R. and Annie from Hubbard County. She was at home in 1900 and 1910 in Hubbard County.

 

PEARL PUTMAN  St. Paul, Ramsey County

She is 40 MN and her daughter Beth is 9 11/12 MN. They live with Samuel Beck, where Pearl is a maid. In 1930, they are in Washington County Oregon, and Pearl is listed as Pearl Bronson a widow. So She’ll remarry move to Oregon and then get widowed again. Her daughter is still single and with her though.

 

WILLIAM H. PUTNAM  St. Paul, Ramsey County

He is 17 MN and lodging. Looks like the son of William Rowell Putman from Goodhue County. His folks have moved to Idaho and he is also listed there now. May just be back here visiting or at school.

 

ALICE E. PUTMAN  Morton, Renville County             

She is 22 MN and boarding. She is a daughter of Frank E. and Jennie from Faribault County, and was there in 1900.

 

ELMER U. (EUGENE) PUTNAM  Big Lake, Sherburne County

Note the middle initial, the census taker was going to spell Eugene 'Ugene.' Oh well. Any way, he is now 62 MA (should be MN as he was born here), Viola Maude Johnson, his second wife, is 52 MN, Lester R. 19 MN, Bert L. 17 MN and Daisy L. 14 MN. He is a son of John Elmer Putnam and Nancy Merriman from Sutton, Massachusetts. Viola is a daughter of Peter Putman and Patience Godfrey from the New York Poutman/Putman Dutch line. She was at home here in Wright County in 1870. She was previously married to a Johnson guy. Elmer was born here in Big Lake October 3, 1857 and will die here November 21, 1930. Viola was born June 10, 1868 in Silver Creek, Wright County Minnesota and will die here in Big Lake December 1, 1948.

 

JULIAN N. PUTNAM  Big Lake, Sherburne County

Eugene Elmer's son was born here and was at home in 1900. He is 35 MN, Emma M. Johnson 23 MN, Julia 2 MN and Raymond 5/12 MN. They are in Anoka County in 1930 where he’ll be working for the steam railway system.

 

FAYETTE PUTNAM  Sherburne County

He is Henry Fayette Putnam 33 MN, Flora Belair his wife is 31 MN, Helen 8 MN, Ruthie 6 MN and John E. 3 8/12 MN. He is a son of George Fayette Putnam and Mary Drew. He was born right here. His folks are now in Oregon, and he will be there himself, widowed, in 1930.

 

HARVEY H. PUTMAN  Duluth, St. Louis County

He is 22 NE IL MI and boarding in an unnamed hotel. He is a son of William Herbert Putnam. He was born in Plum Creek, Wayne County, Nebraska, and was there with his folks in 1900. He will be briefly married to Evelyn Jones and then to Blanche Lang in 1925. They are married here in 1930.

 

MARY M. PUTMAN  Duluth, St. Louis County

She is Mary M. O’Hearn the widow of William from NY and was here with him in 1900 and 1910. She is now 55 WI, Willis A. 30 ND, Arnold E. 18 MN and Harold C. 15 MN.

 

W. H. (WILLIAM HENRY) PUTMAN  Duluth, St. Louis County

He is 55 MI, Frances Josephine Curry his wife 54 WI. He is a son of Abraham and Mary Blazier Putman from Ingham County Michigan. He was home there in 1870 and 1880. In 1900 he was married in Jackson County Wisconsin. In 1910 they were in Barron County Wisconsin and are here in Duluth in 1930.

 

WILLIAM F. PUTMAN  Holding, Stearns County

He is 23 WI and lives alone. This looks like a dual listing for the son of William Henry Putnam and Minnie Hatch and is listed also with them in Little Falls, Morrison County. The family was from Sherburne County, but he was born when the folks were in Wright County, Wisconsin for a few years.

 

AYERS PUTNAM  St. Cloud, Stearns County

He is 18 MN. Ayers Bowen is a son of Hollis Chester Putnam and Margaret Edith Ayers and was born here in Minnesota April 23, 1902 and will die here June 13, 1963.

 

HOLLIS C. (CHESTER) PUTNAM  St. Cloud, Stearns County

He is 45 MN, Marguerite Edith Ayers is 40 MN, Ayers 17 MN, Marguerite 15 MN, Hollis (Hollis Dwight) 14 MN, Dorothy 9 MN and Harriett 4 5/12 MN. He is a son of Charles Henry Putnam and Elizabeth Bowen from Wright County. They were here in 1905 and 1910. Hollis works for the State Reformatory here. OBITS has the son Hollis being born July 24, 1905 and died in St. Cloud in October 1986. They are here in 1930 and 1940. Dutch family originally from New York State.

 

ARTHUR PUTNAM  Stearns County

He was in Minneapolis in 1900 and in Wright County in 1910. He is now 63 MA, Jennie 54 NY, Arthur A. 29 MN and Benjamin 25 MN. He is a son of Lorenzo and Mary Putnam (also here in Minneapolis). He was born in Becket, Massachusetts. I can’t find him in 1930, but he will be here until he dies July 13, 1940.

 

FRED R. (REYNOLDS) PUTNAM  Morris, Stevens County

He is 52 IA, Eva Watkins 50 IA and Paul W. 22 IA. They were in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa in 1900 and here in 1905 and 1910. He is a son of William Rodman Putnam and his second wife Martha, and was born in Hardin County, Iowa. His dad is from Connecticut but went to New York and married before coming to Iowa. They are here in 1930 too. The son Paul is in Orlando, Florida married in 1930 and 1935.

 

FRANK P. (FRANKLIN PIERCE) PUTNAM  Eagle Bend, Todd County

They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is now 54 IL, Sadie Bennett 40 MN, Hattie 21 MN, George 19 MN, Arthur 17 MN, Alta 15 MN and Yvette 10 MN. They will be divorced soon and he will be in St. Paul with his married daughter Hattie. He is a son of Marvin Morris Putnam and Ann Gennette Wheeler from Winnebago County, Illinois. Marvin was a son of John Wellington Putnam and Minerva Scott from New York and then here in Winnebago County. Marvin died there March 25, 1866. His widow ‘Hettie’ married Seymour Barker in 1868 and Frank was with them in Winnebago County in 1870 and Freeborn County Minnesota in 1880. They were here in 1900, 1905 and are still in 1920. They are divorced by 1930 and Frank and his daughter Hattie are in St. Paul. Franklin was born in Winnebago County Illinois May 31, 1865 and will die in St. Paul, Minnesota February 12, 1942. He married Sadie February 19, 1896. She was born March 6, 1879 in Mankato, Blue Earth County and will die in Newburg, Washington October 4, 1972.

 

CHARLES P. PUTNAM  Tintah, Traverse County

He is 25 MN, Ethel Henrietta Greenfield 26 MN and Doris 1 8/12 MN. He is a son of Parker and Ida Putnam and was at home here in 1900. I don’t find any of them anywhere in 1930. But they were probably here and are still here in 1940. New Hampshire family.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Tintah, Traverse County

He is 44 NH, Jennie Johnson, his second wife, is 29 NOR (Bergen, Norway), Walter 21 MN, Ida 9MN and Louise 7 MN. He was in Stutsman County, North Dakota in 1900 with his first wife Jennie Olson, and here in 1910 with Jennie number two. He is a son of Parker Putnam who was here then and is still here now. Traverse County is right on the border of both Dakotas.

 

HIRAM PUTNAM  Tintah, Traverse County

He was here in 1900, and is a brother of Parker. He is now 63 NH and widowed. His mother in law, Delia Williams 78 VT is with him now. Also there are three hired hands. It also looks like he might have a dual listing in Minneapolis as well. Kinda interesting.

 

PARKER A. (ALONZO) PUTNAM  Tintah, Traverse County

He was here in 1900. He is now 67 NH and widowed. His daughter Bessie Smith 39 NH and her son Merton or Morton Smith 12 WA are with him

 

A. Z. (ALVERS ZEBRINA) PUTNAM  Minneiska, Wabasha County

He's been here since the 1850s. He is now the senior Putnam/Putman in the state at age 90 NY. His widowed daughter Flora P. Kalding 69 NY is still living at home. He will die here November 26, 1923.

 

EDGAR W. (WORTHY) PUTNAM  Elgin Township, Wabasha County

He is a son of Charles Putnam and Harriet Irwin from Winona County. He is 45 MN, Lelia M. Crawford, his wife, 35 MN, Arva M. 11 MN, Ray E. 10 MN, Hawley R. 7 MN, Leslie M. a son 6 MN. Edgar married Lelia August 14, 1907 here in Wabasha County. They were here in 1910 and will be in 1930.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Wabasha County

He is 36 MN, and has his sister, Myrtle 28 MN, and mother Rose Stadler Putnam 55 MN with him. His dad was William Washington Putnam. He was born here. His folks were here in 1900, and his widowed mother was with him in 1910.

 

GRACE E. PUTNAM  Wadena County

She is 32 CAN and boarding with a John Williams. Best guess she is the daughter of John Hunter Putnam and Janet Wilke as shown in 1891 at home in Manitoba Canada and still there in 1901, 1906 and 1916. New England family.

 

EARL L. PUTNAM  Winona, Winona County

He is 37 MN, Addie B. Whitlock his wife 33 MN, Harold W. 12 MN and Belva J. a daughter 10 MN. He is a son of the following Charles and Harriet. He was born here and they are in 1930 too.

 

HERBERT PUTNAM  Winona, Winona County

He is a son of Charles and Harriet from here. He is 28 MN, Lulu Waldo his wife is 23 MN. Also there are Mary Waldo 45 MN (lulu's mom) and Dora Ginther 76 SWT listed as grandmother. Also there are a couple of boarders.

 

CHARLES J. PUTNAM  Winona County

Pliny's son has been here since the 1870s. He is now 78 NY, Harriet A. Irwin 67 IN. He will die here January 3, 1928. He is a son of Pliny Putnam and Flora Egerton from Arkwright, Chautauqua County New York and Winchendon Massachusetts before that. Charles was born in Arkwright, New York October 17, 1842 and will die here January 3, 1928. Charles and Harriet were married here in September 1871.

 

WALLACE C. (CHARLES) PUTNAM  Winona County

He is 33 ND, Grace M. Gage 32 MN, Douglas D. 11 MN, and the twins Harry C. and Harold W. are 1 11/12 MN. He is Wallace Charles Putnam born October 7, 1886 and will die here August 12, 1966. They were just married here in 1910 and are here in Whitewater in 1930. He is a son of William Washington Putnam and Rose Stadler from Wabasha County. His family went briefly (1884-86) to North Dakota where Wallace was born. They were all back here in Wabasha County by 1887, and here for the 1900 census. Grace was born December 4, 1887 and will die in Wabasha County July 19, 1968.
