MISSOURI 1950 CENSUS

 

OTTO PUTMAN  Nishnabotna, Atchison County

He is 70 IA IA IA. Lena Marie Schaut his wife is 67 GER. He is a son of Howard Putman and Emma Headley from Hamburg, Freemont County Iowa, and has been there since he was born and there in 1930. Can’t find them in 1940 yet. He owns his farm here. He was born in Hamburg Iowa March 25, 1880 and will die here in Atchison County December 15, 1956. Lena was born in Germany April 29, 1883 and will go back to Hamburg after Otto dies and die back there in January 1973.

 

CLARENCE PUTNAM  Salt River Township, Mexico, Audrain County

He is 43 MO and his wife Pansy Cutbirth is 42 MO. They both still work in a shoe factory. Clarence Elmer is a son of Walter Marvin Putnam and Pearl Mae Forbis from Jefferson, Cole County. He was born March 11, 1907 and will die March 24, 1965. Pansy was born in Ozark County Missouri April 22, 1907 and will die February 29, 1968 in Branson, Taney County Missouri as a result of too much leaping on Leap Year Day. She is a daughter of Martin Van Buren and Arminta Cutbirth. Walter is a son of Jeremiah Martin Putnam and Melissa Jane Straw from Calloway County. This is the family out of Guilford County North Carolina and then Jefferson County Tennessee.

 

LILLIAN PUTNAM  Mexico, Audrain County

She is 57 IL and never married. She is a first-grade teacher, and back in those days most all teachers were single. They got their family kicks from the kids. Lillia is a daughter of John Anderson Putnam and Ruth Ellen Holmes. She has been with here widowed mother in Sikeston, Scott County Missouri up till now. Her mom died there April 1, 1944. Lillian was born December 14, 1892 and will die October 20, 1985.

 

OTTO D. PUTMAN  Prairie, Audrain County

He is now 82 NY NY NY. His wife Harriet Griffin is 80 NY. Still running his farm. He is a son of Cornelius Putman and Nancy Lorraine Burnette and was born in Otsego County New York October 20, 1868. He was here in 1900 with them and married here in 1910 and till now. He married Hattie in October 1889 in Laddonia, Missouri. They never had any children. Hattie will die here in 1951, Otto in 1959. Dutch family from Otsego County, New York.

 

JAMES K. (KAY) PUTNAM  Ash Township, Barry County

He is a farmer 57 WI and his wife Olive Mary Penniston is 51 WI and they have James O. 17 WI. They were here in 1935 and in Lamont, Lafayette County Wisconsin in 1930. He is a son of George Putnam and Annie Reed and was born in Argyle, Lafayette County Wisconsin. His dad George was a son of Theron and Elizabeth Putnam from there. Theron was a son of Lewis and Abigail Putman from Victory, Cayuga County New York, and Lewis was a son of Jacob Putman and Sarah Osterhoud from Montgomery County New York. He was born February 19, 1893 in Langdale, Wisconsin and will die in Joplin Missouri June 7, 1978.. Olive was born July 12, 1898 in Lafayette County Wisconsin and will die in Benton County Arkansas May 7, 1955. and Dutch Putman family.

 

ORVILLE L. (LUTHER) PUTNAM  Centralia, Boone County

He is 24 KS and his wife Lee Marjorie Lorene Ferguson is 21 MO and they have a daughter Lana K. 1 MO. They were married June 13, 1948. Orville is a son of Willis W. Putnam and Irene Belle Dowell and was with them in Monroe County Missouri in 1940. He was born while they were in Kansas April 1, 1926 and he will die here in Centralia November 1, 2009. Lorene was born in Calloway County, Missouri February 8, 1929 and will die September 24, 2020. She apparently will remarry sometime as she was married to John Davidson when she died.

 

DONALD W. (WARD) PUTNAM  Columbia, Boone County

He is 19 MO and lodging. Looks like he is in a college here or some huge hotel. He is a son of Clarence Oliver Putnam and Mary Ranz and was at home with then in Jamestown, Moniteau County in 1940. He was born there March 5, 1931 and will die in Columbia September 30, 2020. In 1960 he is in Port Washington, New York working for Sperry Gyroscope as an engineer and then will marry Frances Ballew  October 8, 1960. He is in the University of Souri School of Engineering. She is a daughter of Patrick and Frances Bellew in Yonkers, New York.

 

THOMAS N. (NICHOLS) PUTNAM  Columbia, Boone County

He is 36 ND and is an art instructor at a Girls College here. He is married to Jane Lyon Seybold 32 MN. They were married in Hennepin, Minnesota June 13, 1942 and now have Thomas N. III 5 VA, Joel S. 3 MN and a couple of lodgers to help pay the bills. He is a son of Leslie Rood Putnam and Emma Fanny Minier and was at home in Fargo City, Cass County North Dakota in 1940. He was born in Foster County, North Dakota July 17, 1914 and was there in 1920 and 1930. He calls himself Thomas Nichols II as that was his dad’s father’s name. That’s why the son is listed as Tommy N. III. This Tom will be around till he dies October 24, 1975 back up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Jane is a daughter of Joseph L. Seybold and Catherine Roberts and was born November 19, 1917 in Minneapolis and will die here in Boone March 1, 1998. Tom number 3 was born August 11, 1944 in Alexandria, Virginia, and he will die April 23, 2002 in Clark County Nevada. Line goes back through New York to William Rodman Putnam in Connecticut.

 

EDITH L. (LOUELA) PUTMAN  St. Joseph, Buchanan County

She is 61 MO and divorced and now says widowed. Lula Watts married Walter Putman here in the 1920s and it didn’t last. She is a daughter of Fielding Bruce Watts and Nancy Catherine Wilson and was born right here March 29, 1888 and will die here November 30, 1960. She had married Arthur Edwin Hanson June 6, 1906 and he died in 1914. She was here divorced from Walter in 1930, not sure where he was, but he was ‘single’ here in 1940. Walter is a son of Howard Putman and Emily Jane Headley and was born in Franklin Township, Fremont County Iowa in April 1882. Southern Putman family South Carolina to Illinois to Iowa then down to here.

 

GEORGE B. (BENJAMIN) PUTMAN  St. Joseph, Buchanan County

He is 42 MO and a patient in the State Mental Hospital here. He is a son of Ola Putman and Elsie Jones from Marceline, Linn County. His dad is a doctor and the hospital there was named for his dad’s dad Benjamin Putman, who was a doctor in the Civil War. George was born July 22, 1907. He too was a doctor. After graduating from high school in 1925, he took two years of medicine at the University of Missouri, was awarded his A.B. degree by Harvard University in 1929, and in 1933 Doctor of Medicine degree from Cornel University. He returned to Marceline to take over the work of his father and grandfather before him. He married Mildred Hardin on October 27, 1934. Mildred is a daughter of John Richard Hardin and Margaret Ellen Walsh. She was born in Randolph County Missouri June 17, 1905 and will die in Liberty, Clay County December 29, 1986. She was first married briefly to Harold Earl Dicks who died in 1929. George or ‘Ben’ will die in Kansas City, Missouri in December 1970. If you go to the Southern Putman section of my site, then to Missouri and the William Putman of Linn County, there are several interesting stories about George and his dad.

 

IRA R. (REED) PUTNAM  St. Joseph, Buchanan County

He is 55 KS and says married but only has his married daughter Alberta 24 KS and her husband Raymond Wolfenbarger 27 MO with him. Ira Reed Putnam is a son of William Putman and Eva Bridges. They were in Atchison County Kansas in 1910, 1920 and 1930. Ira was born June 15, 1895 and will die in St. Joseph, Missouri November 25, 1950. He was married to Josephine Minnie Bardwell and I guess still is. Josephine was born July 14, 1900 and will die in Buchanan County December 15, 1971. Dutch family out of New York State.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  St. Joseph, Buchanan County

He is 45 MO and is a Negro/Black man who is separated from his wife and lodging.

 

JOSEPHINE PUTNAM  St. Joseph, Buchanan County

She is 49 MO and says married but no hubby is around. Josephine Minnie Bardwell has been married to Ira Reed Putnam here. Ira was born June 15, 1895 and will die in St. Joseph, Missouri November 25, 1950. Josephine was born July 14, 1900 and will die in Buchanan County December 15, 1971. Anyway, she is not alone. She has an unmarried daughter Elva P. 23 MO, and there are 2 grandsons: Gordon Lee Justus 1 MO and Ronald G. Justus born in September 1949. Also here are two of her sons: Leroy 22 MO and Clyde R. 20 MO and another grandson Bud Lee Watson 12 MO. The grandsons would belong to a couple of her older daughters.

 

PEARL P. PUTMAN  Washington, Buchanan County

He is a farmer 76 IA IA IA, his wife Mary Frances Jarrett is 69 MI and Clyde 47 MO. He is a son of Howard Abraham Putman and Emma Jane Headley or Hadley. He was born in Appanoose County Iowa November 10, 1873. He was at home in 1880, then married here by 1910. He will die in St. Joseph, Buchanan County May 24, 1951. Mary Frances was born in Michigan September 4, 1880 and will also die in St. Joseph May 8, 1960.

 

EARL J. (JOSEPH) PUTNAM  Cedar, Callaway County

He is 46 MO and his wife Margaret K. Allen is 34 MO and they have Patricia L. 8 MO. He is a son of Walter and Pearl Putnam listed below as is his brother Marvin and his wife. Joseph Earl was born in Callaway County December 23, 1913 and he will die  in Jefferson, Cole County December 20, 1991. Seems he was previously married to Connie Lorraine Fox October 3, 1934. Can’t find them in 1940, but he enlisted in the Army August 17, 1942. That’s probably when and why Connie took off. His 1942 enlistment record said he was separated without dependents. He worked at Samuel Shoe Company in St. Louis, and he now works in the shoe factory with his brother.

 

MARVIN R. (RICHARD) PUTNAM  Cedar, Callaway County

He is 41 MO and is an inspector at a shoe manufacturing facility. He is married to Bessie Pearl Patterson 28 MO and they have Gary R. 5 MO and Phillip M. 2 MO. He is a son of Walter Marvin Putnam and Pearl Mae Forbis listed just below. They are still living with them as they were in 1940. They were together in 1930 and 1940 in Jefferson, Cole County. He was born in Callaway County July 12, 1908 and will die in St. Louis March 31, 1970 and be buried back in Jefferson, Cole County. Bessie was born January 24, 1922 and will die here November 12, 2001. Marvin served in the Army from April 24, 1943 till November 21, 1944. He was at Camp Hood in Texas. They were married in April 1939 and were in Cole County living with his folks in 1940.

 

WALTER M. (MARVIN) PUTNAM  Cedar, Callaway County

He is 72 MO NC NC and is a section head for the railroad. His wife Pearl Mae Forbis is 65 MO and they have a grandson James R. Fleming 13 MO, probably a son of their daughter Irene. Pearl’s widowed father Louis G. Forbis 90 MO is living with them. He is a son of Jeremiah Martin Putnam and Melissa Jane Straw from Calloway County where he has been up till 1920 and then in Jefferson, Cole County in 1930 and 1940. This is the family out of Guilford County North Carolina and then Jefferson County Tennessee. He married Pearl here August 10, 1904. Pearl is a daughter of Louis G. Forbis and Louise Jane Epperson and was born in Calloway County March 15, 1884. She will die in Cole County May 29, 1957. Walter is still alive at that time, and will die November 23, 1961. He was born August 3, 1879. Southern Putmans.

 

MILDRED E. (EDNA) PUTNAM  Fulton, Calloway County

She is 74 PA PA PA and still widowed. She is a nurse and lives by herself. She had married Clyde Ellis Putnam in Cook County Illinois September 25, 1893. They were in Carter County Missouri in 1920. He died there July 4, 1921 after over-celebrating our Day of Freedom. She was widowed in Monroe County here in 1930 and 1940 There is a death certificate here that states she died in Fulton, Calloway County Missouri October 29, 1954. It goes on to state she was born December 12, 1875 in Franklin, Pennsylvania and her real father was Alva Munn. Her son Cecil’s wife gave the information.

 

MARLOW C. (CARL) PUTMAN  Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County

He is 41 OK, his wife Margaret Christine MacDonald 35 MO. They were married in Washington County Arkansas May 16, 1936. He is a clerk in a retail hardware store. They were in Washington County Arkansas in 1935 and in New Madrid County Missouri in 1940. He is a son of James Carl Putman and Nannie Jane Henderson from Crawford County Arkansas and then Okmulgee, Oklahoma where Marlow was born September 8, 1908. He will die here in Cape Girardeau March 26, 1959. Margaret is a daughter of John MacDonald and Delia Oliver. She was born May 8, 1912 and will die here December 14, 1990. Southern Putmans, South Carolina to Illinois to Arkansas.

 

ROSEMARY PUTMAN  Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau County

She is 19 MO and operates a dress making machine. She is a daughter of William Silas Putman and Fay Bell from Moreland, Scott County and was home there in 1940. She was born August 15, 1930 and will marry Joseph Wilbur Masterson very soon on July 1, 1950 in Paragould, Arkansas. She will die April 6, 2014 in Jackson, Cape Girardeau County. Joe was born March 12, 1926 in St. Louis and will die here March 31, 1989. Rosemary is on the Southern Putman line. South Carolina to Kentucky to Illinois and to here.

 

CECIL G. (GORDON) PUTNAM  Johnson Township, Grandin, Carter County

He is 47 OH NY NY, and is an automobile mechanic. His wife Olivia Ira Emmons is 46 MO and they have Melba Lucille 19 MO and Edwin Bruce 17 MO. He is a son of Clyde Ellis Putnam and Mildred Edna Munn from Trumbull County Ohio. He was born there October 30, 1902. He was home there in 1910. He will die in Poplar Bluff, Butler County Missouri March 26, 1988. Olevia is a daughter of John Franklin Emmons and Sarah Margaret Nanna and was born here in Grandin November 18, 1903 and will die June 28, 1985 in Van Buren, Carter County. Melba was born March 8, 1931 and will marry Alfred A. Murray. Edwin was born September 8, 1932 and will die January 12, 2004. He will marry Mary A. Everhart in East St. Louis in 1952. This is a New England family, Massachusetts to New Hampshire to Vermont to New York to Ohio.

 

ORLANDO W. (WALLACE) PUTNAM  Clay Como, Clay County

He is 45 MO, his wife Josephine ‘Jo’ Louise McCarthy is also 45 MO and they now have had all the kids go out. They were in Cass County in 1935 and 1940 and in East Boone, Bates County in 1930. Orlando Wallace Putnam is an adopted son of William Putnam and Clara Burchet from St. Clair County in 1900 and Vernon County in 1920. He was a son of Brud Hughes and Mary Gilbert who weren’t married. He was born December 13, 1904 and will die August 9, 1991 in Cass County.

 

CLAUDE A. (ALLEN) PUTNAM  Gallatin Township, Clay County

He is 33 MO and his wife Maxine H. Craggett is 32 MO. They now have Claudia J. 6 MO and Laura M. 4 MO. He is an elevator inspector for safety in the construction business. Claude Allen Putnam is a son of Forest Lee Putnam and Kathleen MacDonald from here. Forest is a son of Levi and Agnes Putnam from Wyandotte County Kansas. Claude married Maxine Helen Craggett here October 28, 1939. Claude was born August 20, 1916 and will die in Kansas City March 10, 2005. His wife Maxine Helen Craggett was born September 13, 1917 and will also die in Kansas City June 17, 2000. New England folks from New Hampshire.

 

HARRY PUTNAM  Gallatin Township, Clay County

He is 58 MO MO VA. His wife Laura Alice Moore is 55 MO. He now manages a parking garage. Harry Malcolm Putnam is a son of Llewellyn Scott Putnam and Lydia Alberta Kellison from Putnam County Missouri. He was born there September 16, 1891, and still at home in 1910. They were in Wayne County Iowa in 1920 where Ernest was born and in Kansas City in 1930 and 1940. Alice was born November 30, 1894 and will die October 15, 1966. Harry will die August 14, 1967 in Kansas City. New England line.

 

WILBER W. (WILLIS) PUTNAM  Jefferson City, Cole County

He is 25 KS and married to Helen Gloria Krans 18 IA and they have Willa Sue born in February 1950. He is a son of Wilbur Willis and Irene Dowel and was at home in Jefferson Township Monroe County in 1940. Guess boundary lines changed. He is a bus driver. His dad Wilbur is a son of Thomas Alfred Putnam and Susan A. Robinson and was born in Coryell County Texas and there with folks in 1880. Don’t find him in 1900 but his folks were in Oklahoma. He was Kansas City, Missouri in 1910 and then he was single in Butler County Kansas in 1920 and then in Elk County Kansas in 1925 married to Irene Dowell. He was born January 12, 1873 and will die in Monroe County Missouri June 7, 1940. Helen is a daughter of Irwin William Krans and Rose Lee Trembly and was born in Des Moines, Iowa November 21 1931. Wilbur was born December 22, 1924 and will die February 5, 1977 in Wichita, Kansas. Helen will last till August 28, 2017 and will marry Jerry Claude Hanson after Wilbur dies.

 

RAY P. (PALMER) PUTNAM  Marion, Cole County

He is 33 MO and his wife Ruby Verine Hilgert is 31 MO, and they have Glenda Lou 7 MO and Gayle Elaine 3 MO. He works as a foreman for the railroad as he did in 1940 back in Franklin County. He is a son of Walter Marvin Putnam and Pearl Mae Forbis and was in Calloway County in 1920 and Cole County in 1930 and then married in Franklin County in 1940. He was born June 2, 1916 and will die in Jefferson City, Cole County May 28, 1989. Ruby is a daughter of Louis Henry and Daisy Belle Hilgert. She was born in Tipton, Moniteau County November 14, 1918 and will die also in Jefferson City October 8, 1985. This is the family out of Guilford County North Carolina and then Jefferson County Tennessee.

 

THOMAS B. (BENJAMIN) PUTNAM  Kelley Township, Cooper County

He is a farmer 53 MO, his wife Alma May Monks 53 MO and they have Norma Ruth 18 MO. His widowed mother Elizabeth 82 MO is living with them as she was in 1940. Elizabeth Ranz was married to John Maynard Putnam who died here November 28, 1938. Tom was born February 7, 1896 here in Cooper County and will die here in Boonville, Cooper County July 30, 1979. Alma was born here January 8, 1897 and will die in Tipton, Moniteau County August 30, 1972 and be buried back here. They were married  in Morgan County, Missouri July 27, 1923. After she dies, he will marry Viola Ann Hibdon here on January 10, 1973. After he dies in 1979, she will hang around till she dies in Pilot Grove, Cooper County May 30, 2005. His mother Lizzie will die in Tipton October 25, 1964.

 

GEORGE M. (MAYNARD) PUTNAM  Lebanon, Cooper County

He is 60 MO MO MO and now working as a carpenter on his own. His wife Grace Belle Roe is 53 MO and they have Thomas Joseph 26 MO, Wilbur 19 MO, James 16 MO and Martha Belle 13 MO still at home. He is a son of John Maynard Putnam and Elizabeth Ranz from here. He was born January 13, 1890 and will die in Sedalia, Missouri March 20, 1981. Grace is a daughter of Robert Sylvester Roe and Gilla Corum Cole and was born in Climax Springs, Missouri June 13, 1897 and will die in Sedalia October 23, 1975. They were married here December 30, 1915.

 

OTTO H. PUTMAN (PITTMAN)  Buffalo, Dallas County

He is 35 born somewhere and Ancestry has him as a Pittman. They found an obituary in the Paper that shows he is a Pittman not Putman.

 

CLYDE C. (CECIL) PUTMAN  Salem, Spring Creek Township, Dent County

He is 46 MO and his wife Bessie L. Tune is 40 MO and they have Wilmadean 17 MO, Wendell C. 9 MO and Betty Jo 3 MO. He is a son of Alexander Putman and Orla Mae Headrick. He was born here September 12, 1903 and will die in Kansas City June 9, 1974. Bessie is a daughter of Robert Otto Tune and Mary V. Redwine. She was born here June 11, 1909 and will die in 2000. German Putman family Maryland to Pennsylvania to the Midwest.

 

ELDON G. (GLENN) PUTMAN  Salem, Spring Creek Township, Dent County

He is 48 MO MO MO, his wife Julia Mae Tinsley is 43 MO and they have Leona M. 22 MO and Caron S. 5 MO. He is a son of Alexander Putman and Orla Mae Headrick. He was born here September 15, 1901 and will die February 3, 1969 in Plymouth, Marshall County. Julia is a daughter of Robert Tinsley and Alma Stephenson and was born October 13, 1906 and will die here in Dent County on April 20, 1950. His brother Roy is listed below. German Putman family Maryland to Pennsylvania to the Midwest.

 

RALPH D. (DON) PUTMAN  Salem, Spring Creek Township, Dent County

He is 55 MO MO MO, and now is a farmer. His wife Mattie Arena Tipps is 50 MO. He is a son of Alexander Putman and Orla Mae Hedrick from here in Dent County. He was born October 6, 1895 and will die in Salem on January 26, 1977. Mattie was born August 26, 1899 and will die July 14, 1976. German family from Pennsylvania.

 

R. (ROY) CLIFTON PUTMAN  Salem, Spring Creek Township, Dent County

He is 60 MO MO MO and owns a farm. His wife Ruth Emma Inman is 56 MO. He is a son of Alexander Putman and Orla Mae Headrick. He was born here May 31, 1889 and will die here in Salem August 7, 1978. Ruth was born here December 11, 1893 and will die here in Salem July 14, 1994. His dad died here August 6, 1923 and his mom March 23, 1936. His brother Elden is here in town too. Pennsylvania German family.

 

GENTRY W. (WAYNE) PUTMAN  Watkins Township, Dent County

He is 26 MO and a farmer. He is married to Geneva Jane Rhinehart 16 MO. Gentry is a son of Ralph Don Putman and Mattie Arena Tipps from here. He was born in Salem, Dent County December 28, 1922 and will die in Salem September 27, 2006. Geneva is a daughter of Charles and Hattie Rhinehart from Norman, Dent County. She was born April 24, 1933. German family from Pennsylvania.

 

JEROME S. (SETH) PUTMAN  Benton, Douglas County

He is 79 MO MO TN, and his wife Rebecca Annie Davis is 77 IN. He is a son of John Garret Putman from Greene County. He was born November 22, 1870. He was still single and at home in 1920. They were married in 1925. It was her second marriage. She was previously married to Sherman Wylie Garrison. They were in Christian County in 1930 and 1940. She was born February 12, 1873 and will die December 16, 1955. He will die in Greene County December 19, 1972.

 

DON M. (MERLE) PUTNAM  Findley, Douglas County

He is 29 NE and now married to Frieda 22 (no place listed). She was born December 8, 1927 and will die out in Thousand Oaks, Ventura County California December 15, 2007. Don is a son of Charles Aaron Putnam and Sarah Columbus Bragg and was at home here in 1930 and out in Monterey, California in 1940 where he was a truck driver. He was born in Gordon, Sheridan County Nebraska March 17, 1922 and will die in Thousand Oaks, California June 19, 2017.

 

SARAH C. PUTNAM  Findley, Douglas County

Sarah Columbus Bragg is 51 MO, divorced now and has Leanna 17 MO still with her. She was married to Charles Aaron Putnam here in 1930. They were married February 12, 1919 and were in Sheridan County Nebraska in 1920. He was single in Cottonwood, Nance County Nebraska in 1910. In 1900 he was in Jefferson County Illinois with his parents Aaron Putnam and Emma Crabtree. Sarah was widowed here in 1940. She was born August 25, 1898 and will die in Ava, Douglas County April 6, 1993 at age 94. New England Family.

 

J. D. PUTMAN  Independence, Dunklin County

He is 24 MO and his wife Pearlie D. is 17 AR and they have Vernon D. born in AR in December 1949. I have no idea as to what his initials stand for. Every single document, paper and gravestone all only use J.D.  Pearlie does have real words for names and is Pearlie Dean Davidson. J.D. is a son of William Henry Putman, a son of Richard Henry Putman and Annie Colbert from Shawnee, Gallatin County Illinois and his wife Ethel Tatman. He and Pearlie got married in Clay County, Arkansas July 31, 1948. J.D. was born September 16, 1925 and will die January 12, 2010 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Pearlie was born April 6, 1930 and will pack it in April 13, 2004. Guess had too much fun at her birthday party the week before. She is a daughter of Dennis Davidson and Carolyn Harpole. And yes, it is always spelled Pearlie.

 

CECIL C. (CHARLES) PUTMAN  Campbell, Greene County

He is 82 MO TN TN and owns a farm, but is unable to work. His wife Elizabeth Williamson is 69 MO. He is a son of William Housley Putman and Julia Ann Gurley and was born here May 30, 1867 and will die here very soon on July 3, 1950. Nona Elizabeth Williamson is his second wife. His first wife Hattie Belle Giboney was born March 1, 1874 and died September 3, 1905. He married Lizzie here March 19, 1907. She will die here in November 1960. Southern Putman family.

He is 47 MO MO IN and is now a farmer. His wife Mamie Mary Coffey is 47 MO and they have Leota 19 MO and Orin Michael 11 MO. He is a son of William Putman and Della Clark and was born here May 25, 1902, and he will die April 1, 1962 in Springfield, Greene County. Mamie is a daughter of Michael Thomas and Carrie Coffey. She was born March 3, 1903 and will die in Springfield October 9, 1999. Southern Putman family North Carolina to Tennessee to out here.

 

RICHARD J. (JEREMIAH?) PUTNAM  Franklin Township, Greene County

He is 77 IL widowed with his daughter Margaret J. 47 MO and never married. He is a son of Edwin Putnam and Juliette Lawrence, and was in Cedar County in 1900 and as usual unlisted in 1910. He was in Lawrence County in 1920 and I don’t find in 1930 and neither could Ancestry. He said he was divorced in 1940, and widowed now. He was married to Fanny Estella Kerr up to 1920. I have her dying January 4, 1922. He may have married someone after that, just don’t have any info on that. Richard was born February 21, 1873 in Caleta, Illinois. He will die April 10, 1952. Richard is a receiving clerk at a wholesale motor company. Margaret is a physical education teacher at the State College here. This is a family out of Vermont.

 

ROY E. (ELISHA) PUTMAN  Franklin, Greene County

He is 45 MO MO KS and is a machinist with the steam railway. His wife Evelyn Ora Flanagan is 40 MO. They were married August 11, 1929 and now have Richard 19 MO and Carolyn 16 MO. He is a son of William Washington Putman and his second wife Della May Clark. He was born January 1, 1905 and will die here April 22, 1996. Evelyn was born January 8, 1910 and will die here September 4, 1993. Southern Putmans.

 

REUBEN E. (EDWARD) ‘RUFUS’ PUTMAN  Franklin, Greene County

He is now 75 MO TN KY and owns a farm. His wife Aletha Irene Freeman is 73 MO. They were married here November 19, 1895. The kids are all married off now. Reuben is a son of John Putman and Elizabeth Ezell and was born here October 13, 1874 and will die here July 29, 1957. Aletha was born February 9, 1877 and will die in Springfield April 1, 1967. He is 65 MO and his new wife Grace is 57 either MA or MO (too hard to read). He was married to Florence M. Butts here for years. Florence was born April 8, 1886 and will die here September 22, 1941. They never had any children. He is a son of Thomas Putman and Nancy Jane Myers. He was born August 16, 1875 and will die here in August 1969. Family is Southern Putman out of Iredell County North Carolina.

 

HOUSLEY F. (FRANKLIN) PUTMAN  Robberson, Greene County

He is 44 MO and his wife Marie Tindle is 35 MO and they have Housley Thomas 18 MO and Jackie Lee 15 MO. Housley is a son of John Franklin Putman and Hattie Bell Giboney here in Greene County. His mom died about the time he was born, September 3, 1905, and he was raised by her parents the Gibonies. He was out on his own in North Campbell, Greene County in 1940 and married Marie in later 1940 or early 1941. He will die here November 26, 1965 after a wild Thanksgiving Party Dinner. Marie will make it till April 1996.

He is 35 MO and his wife Evelyn C. Price is 35 MO. He now owns a milk bottling plant. Evelyn is a bookkeeper there. He is a son of William Perry Putman and Lula Jeanette Henslee from Franklin, Greene County where they were in 1940. He was born there January 20, 1915 and will die in Riverside County, California December 1, 1980. He married Evelyn March 5, 1938. She was born October 26, 1914 and will die here in Springfield April 11, 2005.

Della May Clark is now 70 IN and widowed. She had been married to William Washington Putman in Franklin, Greene County since December 30, 1897. He was a son of Reuben R. Putman and Mary Garrett from there. He died there December 22, 1932. She was widowed there in 1940. Della was born August 15, 1879 and will hang around till she dies here September 17, 1966.

He is 70 MO TN TN and a leatherworker in a leather plant. His wife Lillian Mae Hartt is 65 MO and they have Edith 38 MO still at home. He is a son of Thomas Putman and Nancy Jane Myers. He was born January 31, 1880. He married Lillian Mae Hartt on April 16, 1904. Mae is a daughter of John Hartt and Mary Johnson. She was born in Greene County May 16, 1883 and will die here February 27, 1957. Franklin will die July 3, 1969.

She is 42 MO and widowed and has a daughter Virginia Harris 19 MO and divorced. Can’t find them earlier nor can Ancestry. We both think they are probably Pitmans.

He is 40 KS and his wife Hazel Irene Martin is 47 WI and they have Dale M. 11 KS. He is an executive in a Boy Scout Organization. He is a son of Harry Wells Putnam and Clara Louise Gibson and was born in Topeka, Kansas June 14, 1909 and will die in Jackson County Missouri April 13, 1965. Hazel is a daughter of Robert Burns Martin and Beverly Maude Logan and was born in Dodgeville, Iowa County Wisconsin March 31, 1903 and she will die  May 13, 1993 in Lewis County Washington.

He is 68 MO and his new wife Jessie Mae Gaba 59 MO. He is a shipping clerk for a wholesale hardware company. He is a son of William Washington Putman and his first wife Eliza Adeline Myers. He was married to Bertha Burgess here in 1910 and 1920 and then divorced by 1930. He married Jessie before 1935 when they were both living right here. He was born January 28, 1882 and will die here October 6, 1970.Jessie Mae was born May 12, 1891 and will die here February 27, 1986. She was previously married to Ralph Sanders Robinson March 16, 1905. He died here April 22, 1929. She was widowed here in 1930 then married Ira in the mid 1930s.

She is 22 MO and is a Registered Graduate Nurse at the local Hospital. Jackie is a daughter of Oren David Putman and Mamie Mary Coffey from Franklin, Greene County where she was born July 7, 1928 and where she has been living. She is 39 MO and divorced and has taken back her maiden name. She is a daughter of John Franklin Putman and Elizabeth Williamson from Franklin, Greene County. She was home there in 1920 and 1930 and off married in the 1940. Here death record shows she later married a Affini guy out in California and states she was born in Missouri April 2, 1911 and died in Lancaster, Loa Angeles County California November 20, 1982.

He is 52 MO MO MO and now runs a Farm equipment store. His wife Gladys Lena Barber is 50 MO and the kids are all off on their own now. Luther was born September 9, 1897 and will die here October 25, 1972. Gladys was born February 19, 1900 and will die in Christian County Missouri February 8, 1997. He is a son of Reuben Edward Putman and Aletha Irene Freeman. They were in Springfield, Greene County in 1920 and Independence, Jackson County in 1930. Luther and the family were all here in 1940. She is 73 MO single and lodging like she was in 1940 and earlier. She is a daughter of John Garret Putman and his second wife Hannah Sparks. He was here with her until he died September 13, 1920. She is a daughter of Oren David Putman and Mamie Coffey from franklin, Greene County and was born there January 17, 1932, and was at home there in 1940. She will marry Glen Kaufman and die in Ozark, Christian County Missouri October 4, 2017.

He is 34 LA and is a dentist. His wife Grace Marie McGinnis is 32 MO and they have Carol A. 8 MO, Jefferson D. 6 MO and Rosalie 1 MO. He is a son of Benjamin Harrison Putnam and Anne Wright Dickson and was born in Crowley, Acadia County Louisiana January 11, 1916 and will die in Holster, Taney County Missouri September 27, 2006. Line goes back from Harvey Putnam in Bethel, Windsor County Vermont to Edwin Josiah Putnam and Lydia Clark who came from Bethel, Vermont to Louisiana to Howell County by the 1920 census. Grace is a daughter of Leo Barnabus McGinnis and Rosalie Josephine Janteen. She was born in St. Louis January 4, 1918 and will die in West Plains, Howell County February 20, 2003. They were married in St. Louis June 22, 1940.

He is 55 NH and his wife Grace Lucille Wasung is 53 IL. He is a farmer. Phillip is a son of Arthur Oliver Putnam and May Franklin and was born March 15, 1895 in Claremont, Cheshire County New Hampshire and will die out here in Mountain View, Howell County August 4, 1975. Grace is a daughter of Herman Henry Wasung and Ida Nora Dodson and was born in Mount Olive, Macoupin County Illinois July 4, 1896 and will call it quits July 7, 1992 in Mountain View, Missouri as well. Her dad’s dad was from Germany.They were just married out in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1920 and in Saline, Kansas in 1930 with 2 small daughters and then out wandering in 1940 someplace.

 

VIRGIL L. (LUTHER) PUTNAM  Blue Township, Jackson County

He is 45 MO. His wife Merle D. Pryor 36 MO, and a stepson Lawrence Mollernee 21 OK from her first marriage. He has a wife Joyce 20 and a son/grandson 2 MO. Virgil Luther Putnam is a son of David Meek Putnam and Monerva Caroline Mason. He was born in Douglas County June 19, 1905. His dad died June 18, 1906 and his mom married Henry Clay Mollernee there August 3, 1907. They were in Douglas County in 1920. Then Henry died July 20, 1926. By 1930 Virgil was with his mom in Dewey, Washington County Oklahoma. He was in Osage County Oklahoma in 1935 and then came back here. Best I can figure is that his wife Merle had married his stepbrother Marion Mollernee who died. Virgil will die in Springfield, Greene County November 20, 1978. OMAR O. (OLIVER) PUTMAN  Brooking, Jackson County

He is 33 KS and has married Louise Murphy 45 KS as his third wife. The kids are all gone now. Omar Oliver Putman is a son of Elijah Putman and Laura Ellen Thompson. Elijah was a son of Abraham Putman and Elizabeth Duff from Davis County Iowa. Omar was born in Washington County, Kansas July 13, 1886, and was with his mother there in 1895 and in Oklahoma with her in 1900. He married Ada Leah Saunders in Leavenworth, Kansas December 6, 1907. They were here in 1910 and 1920. Leah died July 30, 1922 shortly after the birth of the daughter Leah. Omar then married Dema Leona Edwards November 28, 1923. She was a daughter of Sylvanus Edwards and Rebecca Cummins and was born October 13, 1884 in Martinsville, Indiana. She was first married to Lindley Murray White in the early 1900s. Dema died April 10, 1936. He later married Louise Murphy in the 1940s. She was born August 30, 1904 and will die here in Kansas City November 22, 1996. Omar will die November 20, 1962 in Raytown, Missouri. He is a Post Office Supervisor in Kansas City, Missouri. Southern Putman line.

 

DEVEREUX N. (NATHANIEL) PUTNAM  Kansas City, Jackson County

He is 36 NJ and his wife Ann Curl is 32 MO. They have yet another Nathaniel Devereux 3 MO born February 23, 1947. They call him junior. With his name though he is number 3 and number 5 Nathaniel Putnam out of Danvers, Massachusetts. ‘Juniors’ dad here is the real Nat II and is a son of Nathaniel Devereux Putnam and Regenia Moore and was born in Englewood, Bergan County New Jersey February 10, 1914 and will pack it in out in Overland Park, Kansas July 11, 1997. Nat Dev Senior or plain old Nat number III is a son of Nathaniel Putnam and Abigail Devereux from Brooklyn, New York and was born there July 29, 1845 and died there January 10, 1913. His dad was Nathaniel Junior out of Danvers. Obviously, a New England family. It is kinda fun to carry on a name. I am William Byrnes Putman II born April 10, 1937, and I have a son Bill III or Tripp for Triple, born June 26, 1963, and he has Number IV born September 14, 1995 and his nickname is Liam which is the Irish version of William.

He is 43 MO KS KS. His wife Georgia Lucille Smith is 44 MO and they have Elmer Lewis 22 MO. They live with mother Minnie Smith 77 MO, like they did in 1930 and 1940. He is a bookkeeper at a grain company. He is a son of Edward Frederick Putnam and his first wife Mary Ann Shoaf. He was born here August 18, 1906, but his folks were from Clay County Kansas and then Indiana and Vermont and Danvers, Massachusetts before that. He will die here June10, 1976. Lucy was born March 20, 1906 and will call it quits June 11, 1976. New Englanders.

She is 19 MO single and head of her one-person family. She is a bookkeeper at an auto supply store. Neither Ancestry nor I can find her in 1940. The writing looks more like Patman. Also, I tried to see if there was a 9 year-old gal with a name starting with L. which is this gal’s middle initial, in the 1940 Census. The only one was a Leota Mae in Greene County who was there still in 1950. Probably not a Putman or Putnam.

 

ERNEST G. (GAROLD) PUTMAN  Kansas City, Jackson County

He is 34 IA, his wife Hazel Loretta Whitman is 33 MO and they have Dixie Lee 13 MO, Terry Lynn 11 MO, Meredith K. 6 MO and Bonnie G. 5 MO. Hazel’s widowed mom Katherine Marie Whitman 71 MO is with them now. She was married to Alvin John Whitman here in Kansas City till he died April 5, 1943. Katherine will make it till June 28, 1969. Ernest is a son of Harry and Alice Putnam. Harry is a son of Llewellyn Scott Putnam and Lydia Alberta Kellerson from Putnam County Missouri. Harry was born there and still at home in 1910. They were in Wayne County Iowa in 1920 where Ernest was born and then back here in Kansas City by 1930. Ernest was born July 17, 1915 and will die in Blue Springs, Jackson County May 16, 1987. He is a hauling contractor with his own business. Hazel was born November 17, 1916 and will die February 25, 2010 back in Clay County Missouri where they were in 1940. New England line.

He is 52 MO MO IL. He is an electrician with an Electrical Contracting Company. His wife Irene Sylvia Hess is 46 TX. Ernest was born June 25, 1897 and will die in Kimberling City, Missouri in December 1981. Irene was born October 4, 1902 and will die in March 1978. They were married September 1, 1923. Ernest Harper Putnam is a son of Ralph W. Putnam and Ida May Harper from Kansas City. He was home with his folks in 1900, not listed in 1910 and here with his then widowed mother Mary in 1920. They were in Gallatin, Clay County in 1930 and 1940. Line goes back to Nathan Putnam who came to Kansas City in the 1860s, and was from Montgomery County New York. FOREST L. (LEE) PUTNAM  Kansas City, Jackson County

He is 60 KS NH CAN and is a retail dry goods salesman. His wife Kathleen McDonald is 60 MO. They were married April 22, 1912. He is a son of Levi and Agnes Putnam from Wyandotte County Kansas. He was born October 6, 1889 and will die here May 7, 1964. Kathleen was born September 19, 1889 and will die here in November 1979. He was there in 1910 and here in 1920. His folks were here in town in 1940. Levi was a son of Joseph Putnam Jr. and Mary Jamison of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire. He was born there December 26, 1846. His mom died and he and his dad moved to Wabash County Indiana in the 1850s. He was in Bourbon County Kansas in 1870 and Cowley County Kansas still single in 1880. He married Agnes in 1882 and they were in Macon County Missouri in 1900 and then over in Wyandotte County Kansas in 1910 and 1920 and then here in 1930. Agnes was born in Toronto, Canada October 4, 1866. She was a daughter of Robert Fensom and Harriet Caroline Brocke. Then they both died here in Kansas City. Levi on October 28, 1940 at age 93, and Agnes on November 2, 1944 at age 77.

 

JAMES C. (CARL) PUTMAN  Kansas City, Jackson County

He is 72 AR IA IA. His second new wife Villa Elliot is 42 AR. He is a son of Reding Putman and Doretha White of Crawford County Arkansas. He was born in Arkansas January 23, 1878. The family was in Rice County Kansas in 1880, Lamar County Texas in 1900. James and his first wife Nannie Springfield were married in Crawford County Arkansas November 8, 1900, and were in Sequoyah County Oklahoma in 1910 and Okmulgee County Oklahoma in 1920, and Carroll County Arkansas in 1930. I found his Death Certificate in Kansas City, Missouri where he died of heart disease November 18, 1955. At that time his wife was Villa Elliott and they lived at 8201 Independence Avenue. His body was taken back to Fayetteville, Arkansas. I don’t know when Nannie died or when Villa entered the picture.

 

LILLIAN PUTNAM  Kansas City, Jackson County

She is 46 MO and divorced. She is living with her stepparents John L. and Evelyn Ostenburg here as she was in 1940. Ruth Lillian Towney had been married to Walter Floyd Putnam and they were divorced in 1928. She was born February 25, 1904 and will die here in Jackson County in October 1979. Her mom Evelyn Florence Ostenburg was married previously to some Towney guy and they divorced or something and she married John

She is 75 KS an is widowed. She lives with her widowed sister Myrtle Lodge 70 KS. Nora Ward was married to George H. Putnam in Linn County, Kansas in 1930. No ideas yet on who he was. There is a death certificate in Joplin, Missouri for a Nora Putnam who died there July 16, 1953. She was born December 12, 1875 in Kansas and was a daughter of Aaron Ward and Mary Elizabeth Legg. She was widowed at the time. Gotta be her.

She is 29 MO single and an office secretary. She is a daughter of Omar Oliver Putman and Ada Leah Saunders. She was at home here in Kansas City with her widowed dad in 1940. She was born here July 26, 1920 and will die in Missouri in June 1972. She never married.

Anna Andrews is 70 ME and now widowed. She has been here for years married to Henry Walter Putnam. He was a son of Walter Putnam and Sarah Harrison who were here in the 1860s. He was born here in Carthage on June 8, 1878 and died here January 2, 1948. Anna W. Andrews was born December 8, 1879 in Saco, Maine and will die here January 17, 1961. She is a daughter of John Randolph Andrews and Elizabeth ‘Lizzy’ Milliken. She and Henry were married in Detroit, Michigan June 8, 1904.

He is 40 MO and  a physician. His wife Mary Jane Walker is 41 MO and they have Anne 3 IA and a maid and a nurse. They were married in 1943. John is a son of Henry Walter Putnam and Anna Andrews from here. He was born here January 28, 1909 and will die in Santa Barbara, California December 4, 1981. Mary Jane was born November 30, 1908 and will die in Santa Barbara, California September 26, 2007. John served in the ARMY from November 19, 1942 till April 5, 1964.

He is 32 MO and his wife Joanna Cargill is 31 MO and they have William C. Jr. 6 MO, Henry Cargill 4 OK and his twin Tommy A. 4 OK and John L. 3 MO. They have a maid and a cook living with them. Bill is a son of Henry Walter Putnam and Anna Woodman Andrews from here. He was born here January 25, 1918 and will die here in Carthage May 16, 1998. He is a manager working at his dad’s Wholesale Lumber Company. He and Joanna were marred in St. Joseph, Buchannan County  May 17, 1941, and aren’t wasting time getting their Junior Babe Ruth Baseball team going. 😊 Joanna was born October 2, 1918 and will die here May 31, 1977. He will later marry Barbara (Stevenson) Black November 19, 1990. New England family.

He is 22 KS and his wife Dolores Marie Bradley is 20 KS. They have a daughter Brenda 1 MO. I love the way they list singles by saying that Lil Ole Brenda ain’t never been married. Good thing as she is a tad young to run off with some goofy sex maniac. Jackie, as he was called, was born February 11, 1928 in Baxter Springs Kansas, and will die July 10, 2003. He is a son of Joseph Kyle Putman and Leota May Devaney and was at home with them in 1940 in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County Kansas. Joe’s dad is a son of John Morgan Putman and Era Pearl Tow out of Milam County Texas where he was born. Dolores is a daughter of Harry C. Bradley and Harriet M. Head and was born in Pittsburg, Kansas July 24, 1929 and she will die in September 1991. They were married in Bentonville, Arkansas June 2, 1948.

He is 33 MO and married to Geneva Mae Hilton 30 MO. He is a son of George William Putman and Maud Pearl Russell from Newton County. He was born there November 6, 1915 and will die here in Joplin, Jasper County July 9, 1992. His dad is a son of John Ezekiel Putman and Sarah Elizabeth Grimes from here. He will die here in Joplin on October 15, 1981, and Ada on July 12, 1979. She is a daughter of William Haynes and California Ball. New England family from Vermont to Iowa and here.

Frank was a son of David Odell Putnam and Annie Setser from McDonald County. Clarabelle was born May 26, 1910 and will die April 3, 1991. DAVID W. (WILSIE) PUTMAN Galena Township, Joplin, Jasper County

He is 67 AR AL AR. His wife Martha Ora Villines is 57 AR. He is a son of Robert Martin Putman and his second wife Martha Ann Bell. He was born in Carroll County Arkansas in December 1882. He was with his widowed mother in Boone County Arkansas in 1900 and 1910, and overlooked in 1920 then here in 1930. His dad Martin was a son of Wilson Putman from North Carolina to Tennessee to Madison County Alabama where he was born in 1846. They are here the rest of their lives. He was born in Hartman, Arkansas December 15, 1882 and will die January 29, 1955 as a result of falling off the porch at work and hitting his head on the concrete floor. Martha was born April 2, 1892 will die here September 2, 1969. They are buried here in Joplin.

 

WAYNE D. PUTMAN  Mineral, Jasper County

He is 30 MO single and heading up the family with his widowed mother Maude Putman 60 MO and his now widowed brother Paul J. Putman 39 MO. He is a son of George William Putman and Maude Pearl Russell and was at home in Newtonia, Newton County since he was born there October 6, 1919. His mother isn’t really widowed, just separated or divorced. His dad in is in Kansas and will be there till he dies in June 1968. His mom will die here in Jasper County November 15, 1969. Wayne will die in St. James, Missouri February 26, 2004. His dad is a son of John Ezekiel Putman and Sarah Elizabeth Grimes from here. He was born November 19, 1879. If you want more info. MARVIN E. PUTNAM  Meramec, Jefferson County

He is 59 MO, his wife Veronica Swabeck is 57 MO and their son Eugene is 27 MO. He is a welder for the electric company. They also have their daughter Norman Miller 38 MO who is separated from her husband Norman Miller. Her daughter Norma Jean Miller 10 MO and son Stanley Miller 8 MO are with her. They were married and together in St. Louis in 1940. Marvin just popped up here in 1900 at age 9 living with his grandfather Gebhard Babb and has been here ever since. He was born October 19, 1890 in St. Louis and will die in St. Louis August 21, 1958. The son Eugene was born February 15, 1924. He committed suicide by shooting himself in the brain on April 9, 1955.

 

ELSIE J. PUTMAN  Marceline, Linn County

She is 72 IL and widowed as she was here in 1940. Elsie Jones was married to Ola Putman here for years. He was a son of Benjamin B. Putman and Mary Elizabeth Carter. Benjamin became a doctor during the Civil War and then studied in St. Louis. Ola was a doctor like his dad. The hospital here in Marceline, Missouri was named for him. Ola was born June 6, 1878 and died here December 4, 1933. Elsie is a daughter of George Jones and Mary Carter and was born in Quincy, Illinois September 21, 1877. She will die here on March 29, 1955 of a massive cerebral hemorrhage. Southern Putman family out of Kentucky to Indiana to here.

 

MILDRED PUTMAN  Marceline, Linn County

She is 44 MO and now divorced. She still has George 13 MO and Margaret 11 MO. Mildred Mary Hardin was married to George Benjamin Putman here in 1940. George was the only son of Ola Putman and Elsie Jones from here. His dad died in 1933 and his widowed mom is still here and listed next. He was born July 22, 1907. He too was a doctor. After graduating from high school in 1925, he took two years of medicine at the University of Missouri, was awarded his A.B. degree by Harvard University in 1929, and in 1933 Doctor of Medicine degree from Cornel University. He returned to Marceline to take over the work of his father and grandfather before him. He married Mildred Hardin on October 27, 1934. Mildred is a daughter of John Richard Hardin and Margaret Ellen Walsh. She was born in Randolph County Missouri June 17, 1905 and will die in Liberty, Clay County December 29, 1986. She was first married briefly to Harold Earl Dicks who died in 1929. Ben died in Kansas City, Missouri in December 1970. Now in 1950 he is a patient at the State Mental Hospital in St. Joseph, Buchanan County and not a doctor anymore. Southern Putmans.

 

JOE M. (MARTIN) PUTMAN  Anderson, McDonald County

He is now 81 TN TN TN and runs a retail feed store here in town. Matilda Lynnwood Howard, his second wife is 49 AR. Her mom Lina Howard 91 TN is with them. Joseph Martin Putman is a son of William Lester Putman and Charlotte Mabry. Joe was born March 31, 1869 in Lebanon, Wilson County Tennessee. He married Teresa Price on May 30, 1889. J.M. is the name he goes under and he worked at a bank for 31 years and also ran a canning operation. They were in Pea Ridge, Benton County Arkansas in 1940. In 1943, he began to operate several Purina Feed Stores in Missouri. Joseph will die June 28, 1960 and is buried in the Pea Ridge Cemetery in Arkansas. Teresa was born December 8, 1869 and died June 28, 1933. He then married Lynnwood Howard, a widow, August 3, 1937. She was born in Bentonville, Arkansas July 30, 1891 and will die back in Rogers, Benton County August 30, 1957.

 

WILLIAM T. (THOMAS) PUTMAN  Anderson, McDonald County

He is 45 MO and his wife Sibyl Florence Carden is 44 AR. William is a son of Joe Martin Putman and Matilda Lynnwood Howard listed above. He is also the owner of the Purina feed store his dad took over in the mid 1940s. He was born here in Pineville, McDonald County back on May 2, 1899 then grew up in Benton County Arkansas and will die there in Pea Ridge, Benton County March 24, 1984. He married Sibyl in Benton County Arkansas July 16, 1922. She was born in Sugar Creek, Benton County August 22, 1901 and will die in Pea Ridge March 9, 1986. She is a daughter of John Thomas Carden and Victoria Testerman from there. Don’t think they had any kids.

 

ELZA A. (AUSTIN) PUTNAM  Harrison, Mercer County

He is 59 MO OH MO and owns a farm. His wife Ruth Stratton is 54 MO, and they have Dennis E. 21 MO. He is a son of Willard Wallace Putnam and Dora Alice Conger from Mercer County. He and his family were here in Lindley, Mercer County in 1920 - 1940. He was born in Princeton, Mercer County May 26, 1890 and will die there November 2, 1969. Ruth is a daughter of Elmer and Sarah Jane Stratton and was born in Saline, Mercer County December 1, 1895 and will die in Princeton April 13, 1970. The son Dennis was born December 10, 1928, and married Marilyn Arnote November 2, 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri. Dutch folks from New York.

He is a son of Elza Austin Putnam and Ruth Stratton from Lindley Mercer County where he was born and are here in Harrison now. Wilbur was born March 8, 1915 and will die November 11, 1991. Nellie was born in Cainsville, Harrison County. October 20, 1921 and will die in Trenton, Missouri August 24, 2008. They were married in Trenton November 15, 1940. She was a daughter of Charles William and Effie Still.

He is 33 MO and his wife Norma Helen Oder is 29 MO. They have Connie Joyce 9 MO, twins Janet Esther and Geneva Ruth 7 MO and Ward Allen 2 MO. He is a son of Elzie Putnam and Ruth Stratton from here. The folks are nearby in Harrison, Mercer County as is his brother Wilbur. He was born December 23, 1916 in Princeton, Mercer County and was home here with the folks in 1930 and 1940. Norma is a daughter of Joseph Walter Oder and Esther Moon and was born in Harrison County August 18, 1920 and will die in Chillicothe, Livingston County February 10, 2005. Ward will die there in Chillicothe October 11, 2004. The daughter Connie Joyce will marry Leonard N. Bowe January 7, 1965. Janet will marry Dale Hagan October 8, 1961. He is 47 MO and his wife Laura Fern Jones is 41 MO. Joseph Oliver Putnam is a son of Oliver Wilson Putnam and Mary M. Ranz. He was born in Boone County January 18, 1903 and will die in Jefferson City, Missouri on Christmas Day 1989. Fern was born in Boone County June 23, 1908 and will die here in California City November 16, 2004. They were married in Henry County December 19, 1932. He owns and operates an automobile garage with his brother Clarence.

 

CLARENCE PUTNAM  California, Moniteau County

He is 52 MO and his wife Mildred Ward Hoback is 51 MO. He had an automobile repair garage here in 1940 and now is an Automobile Dealer. He is a son of Oliver Wilson Putnam and Mary Ranz. He was born in Boone County but was here in Linn Township, Moniteau County with his widowed mother in 1910 and 1920. They were also here in 1930 and 1940. Clarence Oliver Putnam was born May 16, 1897, and will die here in California in August 1982. He married Mildred September 10, 1919. Mildred was born October 20, 1897 and will die in Columbia, Missouri January 16, 1994 at age 96.

She is 24 MO and working as a maid with the family of Andy and Louise Hainen. She is the daughter of George Maynard Putnam and Grace Belle Roe from Lebanon, Cooper County. They are still there so you can check the line there. She was born October 13, 1925 and will die April 6, 1987. She never married.

 

IRENE PUTNAM  Jefferson Township, Monroe County

She is 49 MO and widowed now that her husband Willis Putnam has died. She has Carlos 17 MO, Betty 15 MO, Joyce 13 MO and Kaye 6 MO. Willis was a son of Thomas Alfred Putnam and Susan A. Robinson and was born in Coryell County Texas and there with folks in 1880. Don’t find him in 1900 but his folks were in Oklahoma. He was Kansas City, Missouri in 1910 and then he was single in Butler County Kansas in 1920 and then in Elk County Kansas in 1925 married to Irene Dowell here in Monroe County. He was born January 12, 1873 and died in Monroe County June 7, 1940.

 

LEROY E. (EDGAR) PUTNAM  Versailles, Morgan County

He is 60 IL and now remarried to Florence Carter 48 OK. Leroy Edgar is a son of John Anderson Putnam and Ruth Ellen Holmes and was born in Illinois February 28, 1890. In 1900 the family is in Wapello County Iowa and in 1910 he and his folks are in Monroe County Missouri. In 1920 he is in St. James, Mississippi County Missouri and has a wife Geneva Lee Suver 21 born in Illinois. He is in Dupo, St. Clair County Illinois in 1930, and in 1935 he is divorced and in Sikeston, Missouri where his widowed mother is now. In 1940 he is by himself and divorced in Quincy, Adams County Illinois. His dad John was a son of Uzziel Franklin Putnam and Martha Jane Cochran from Cass County, Michigan. He is shown in the family in 1880 in Valley Township, Reno County Kansas. In 1900, they are in Pleasant Township, Wapello County Iowa. Then it seems they went to Canada to farm. A relative said they had two crop failures, and said to heck with that. He returned to the States and bought 40 acres here in Paris, Missouri. John was born in Neosho County Kansas January 4, 1868, and died October 29, 1910 of Typhoid Fever. Ruth Ellen is a daughter of Charles Holmes and Mary Jones and was born in Pennsylvania July 8, 1868 and will die in Sikeston, Scott County Missouri April 1, 1944. Leroy will die in Columbia, Missouri June 22, 1960. I can’t find any info on Florence Carter yet. New England Putnams.

He was born in Joplin March 8, 1923 and he will die there November 25, 1969 after eating too much Turkey at a Thanksgiving Day buffet that also had free drinks. He was in Seattle, Washington when he registered for the draft June 30, 1942. He was working for Boeing Aircraft at the time. They were here in 1940, and in Dyer County Tennessee in 1935 and Elkmont, Alabama in 1930 and earlier. He is Earl Putman a son of Samuel Putman and Annie Daly from Limestone County Alabama. She was born in Otterville, Cooper County August 19, 1928 and will die here in Sedalia January 1, 2014. She will marry Edward Eugene Brummet April 20, 1952. He will make it till June 23, 2003 here in Sedalia. Her line goes back to Darius Erastus Putnam in Worcester County, Massachusetts, back to the gang that were in Sutton, Worcester County that flooded out West in the 1800s.

He is 79 MN VT NY and owns a farm. He is widowed as his wife Emelia Josephine Schenkel died here February 5, 1947. He is a son of William Aaron Putnam and Elizabeth Ann Ingersol and was born in Plainview, Minnesota July 20, 1871. He was at home in Watopa, Wabasha County Minnesota in 1880. His father was a son of Fletcher Putnam and Adeline Carter Brush and was born back in Grafton, Vermont. Nate and Emelia were married in St. Clair County, Illinois in 1910 and then were here in 1920. Emelia was a daughter of Ferdinand Schenkel. Nate will die here April 5, 1953.

He is 62 MO MA WV and owns a farm. He is now married to Myrtle Noland 54 MO and her widowed mother Margaret Noland 83 MO is living with them. He is a son of Llewellyn Putnam and Lydia Kellison from here. Willis was born January 30, 1888 and will die in Unionville, Putnam County December 1, 1977. Willis was married to Effie Birdella Smith here for years. She was a daughter of George Washington Duval Smith and Florence Cordellia Hamlin. She was born July 30, 1885, and she died here August 6, 1946. Myrtle is a daughter of John Wesley and Margaret Naomi Noland and was born here in Putnam County November 29, 1895 and will die here December 10, 1962. He was born January 19, 1926 here in Lucerne, and will die  in Belleview, Nebraska June 17, 1986. He will marry Norma Colleen Robinson June 14, 1951 in Jackson County. Colleen was a daughter of Millard Robinson and Alta Holmes and was born in Powdersville, Missouri June 3, 1925. She will make it till July 30, 2005. They got divorced May 21, 1976 and she married William ‘Bud’ Preston Braden April 1, 1965 and that lasted till she died. Strange. Was she married to two guys for over 10 years? She is 83 MO and widowed as she has been. She was here in 1935 and 1940. Anna Jane Gowin was born April 21, 1866 and will die here November 4, 1954. She was married to John W. Putman in Butler County in 1900 and widowed by 1910. John was a son of Samuel Putman and Mariah Elizabeth Radcliff. He was born in Gilmer County West Virginia in January 1962 and was with his widowed mom Mariah Radcliff in Pike County MO in 1880. He died in Butler County Missouri May 21, 1939. He and Anne  were married August 19, 1888 in Farler, Audrain County Missouri. Southern Putman Family.

 

GLENN R. (RUSSELL) PUTNAM  Moberly, Randolph County

He is 46 WI and his wife Mary Elizabeth Warmouth is 33 MO and they have Russell F. 11 MO and Judy 4 MO. He was in Macon, Missouri in 1935 and married to a different gal there in 1930. Mary was in Kansas City with Maxine in 1935, so she too was married to someone earlier. Russell is theirs though. Glenn says he was born in Wisconsin, I found him. I looked at the Wisconsin 1910 and sure enough he was there in Argyle, Lafayette County with his folks George O. Putnam and Anna C. Reed. Found a birth record that gave his middle name and that he was born there September 2, 1903. So, everything fits now. His dad George was a son of Theron and Elizabeth Putnam. Dutch family from New York State.

 

MAXINE PUTNAM  Moberly, Randolph County

She is 17 MO lodging, single and no work. In 1935 she was with her mother Mary Elizabeth Warmouth in Kansas City. In 1938 her mom remarried to Glen Russell Putnam, a second marriage for both. The folks are listed right above. 

 

WILLIAM PUTMAN  Moberly, Randolph County

He is 73 MO and lodging. He is a son of Squire Putman and Nancy Jan Banning from here. His dad was a son of William Putman and Sarah Head from Bracken County Kentucky. His family all moved out here to Linn County over a Century ago. Squire died here in Charlton County in 1880 and Nancy married a Moore man and they were there in 1900. She was widowed again in 1910. He was still there in Charlton County in 1940. He has always been single but not is listed as widowed.

 

MELBA PUTNAM  Jordan, Ripley County

She is 19 MO single and lodging. She is a daughter of Cecil Gordon Putnam and Olivia Emmons and was at home in 1940 in Johnson Township, Carter County. Can’t find any more info on her.

 

CHARLES PUTMAN  Memphis, Scotland County

He is 42 IA IA IA born in Dubuque and his wife Nellie Josephine Jansen is 36 MO. He was single in 1930 and was a locksmith in St. Louis in 1940. He is a repair man at a gunsmith shop now. He is Charles Francis Putnam a son of Charles A. Putnam and Nellie Belle Blondin from Dubuque. He was born there May 1, 1907 and will die in Colorado in October 1976. Nellie was born in Scotland, Missouri October 6, 1913 and will die up in Colorado July 29, 1974. They were in St. Louis in 1940. Dutch family out of Montgomery County New York.

 

JOHN H. (HOYT) PUTNAM  Doyle, St. Clair County

He is 35 NE and married to Easter Lilly Bishop 35 MO. They were married October 12, 1940 and have Janice 8 MO, Larry 7 MO and Vernon 3 MO. He is a son of Alonzo Brinkerhoff Putnam and Nellie Nailor from here. He was at home here in 1940. He was born in Bassett, Nebraska May 26, 1914 and will die here in Collins, St. Clair County April 28, 1997. Esther is a daughter of Daniel Lawrence Bishop and Nellie Belle Smith and was born here in St. Clair County April 4, 1915 and will die also in Collins, St. Clair County on March 23, 1998. His widowed mom Nellie is listed below. Dutch family out of New York State.

 

NELLIE PUTNAM  Osceola, St. Clair County

She is 63 NE and now widowed. Nellie Nailor was married to Alonzo Putnam here since they were married  in April 1913. Alonzo Brinkerhoff Putnam was a son of John Henry Putman and Sarah Ann Brinkerhoff from Brinkerhoff, Nebraska. He was home in 1900 and 1910 and then he was married in 1920 and he and Nell were in Keyapka County Nebraska. Then they were in Sumner County Kansas Alonzo was born in Bassett, Nebraska on May 21, 1885 and died in Osceola, St. Clair County June 7, 1947. Nellie is a daughter of William and Salara Jane Nailor and was born in Nebraska January 11, 1887 and will die in El Dorado Springs, Cedar County Missouri November 7, 1970.

 

CECIL G. (GORDON) PUTNAM  Farmington, St. Francois County

He is Cecil Junior and is 27 MO and is married to Virginia Pearl Crumeleton 26 MO and they have Karen Sue 5 MO. He is a son of Cecil Gordon Putnam and Olivia Irma Emmons from Grandin, Carter County where he was born September 9, 1923 and he will die in Bull Shoals, Arkansas September 21, 1990. Virginia is a daughter of Tom Crumeleton and Bethel Davis and was born in Bonne Terre, Missouri May 28, 1924 and will die October 21, 2001. They are buried here in Farmington. This is a New England family, Massachusetts to New Hampshire to Vermont to New York to Ohio to Missouri.

 

CHARLES F. (FRANCIS) PUTNAM  Ladue, St. Louis County

He is 56 KY KY KY. His wife Marion C. Schloemer is 53 KY and they have William S. 22 KY and Marion Caroline 18 KY. They were married in June 1916. He is a sales manager for adding machines for the Burroughs Corporation. He is the son of Forest Lee Putnam and Charlotte Shackleford from Louisville, Kentucky. There is a death certificate in Clayton Township that he was born in Lebanon, Kentucky June 16, 1893 and died in St. Louis November 24, 1956. His wife Marion was still alive at the time. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky January 27, 1897 and will die in St. Louis March 1, 1977. She is a daughter of Charles E. Schloemer and Anna H. Leonhardt. New England Putnam family.

 

WILLIAM S. (SHACKELFORD) PUTNAM  Ladue, St. Louis County

He is 32 KY and a science teacher at a private boy’s school. His wife Rebecca Carter Macmillan is 28 MO. He enlisted in the Army November 24, 1943. They were married in Kirkwood, St. Louis County August 16, 1947. He is a son of Charles Francis Putnam listed right above. He was at home with them here in 1940. He was born November 13, 1917 in Louisville, Kentucky, and will die February 5, 1995 in a nursing home in Columbus, Ohio. Rebecca was born November 11, 1921. I don’t have a death date.

 

SEWARD B. (BOGART) PUTNAM  Meramec, St. Louis County

He is 41 CA and his wife Ruth Maurine Cole is 46 MO. They have Peggy C. 2 MO. He is a son of Charles G. Putnam and Helen S. Cobb and was born in San Francisco. Charles is a son of Alfred Putnam and Margaret Bogart from Santa Barbara, California. Seward Bogart Putnam was born there November 12, 1908. Seward will die here in St. Louis, Missouri June 7, 1953. Ruth is a daughter of William J. Cole and Carrie B. Jones. She was born in Springfield, Missouri October 28, 1903 and will die December 2, 1988 in Orlando, Florida. He and Ruth were in Chicago in 1935 and here in University City, St. Louis County in 1940. He sells wholesale hardware items. The daughter Peggy will marry a Ziff guy in Orlando New England family.

 

ALDEN PUTNAM  St. Louis City, St. Louis County

He is 54 NY NY PA and a billing clerk for a farm plow firm. His wife Pearl Elizabeth Jones is 46 IN and they have June Elaine 18 MO. They were here in 1930 and 1940. Alden is a son of Clyde Ellis and Mildred Putnam from Chautauqua, Chautauqua County New York. He was home there in 1900. He and his family were in Warren, Trumbull County Ohio and out here in Johnston, Carter County Missouri in 1920. His dad died here in 1921. His mom is now in Monroe County by herself. She will die in Fulton, Calloway County Missouri October 29, 1954. His wife Pearl was a daughter of William Jones and Emma McMullen and was born in Dixon, Missouri May 12, 1901. They live at 6006 Thecla Avenue and have since they were married December 31, 1926 as part of a New Year’s Eve party, I guess. Pearl will die here April 27, 1942 of urinary poison complications in her eighth month of pregnancy. Alden was born February 4, 1896 and will die July 7, 1982. The daughter June Elaine was born June 6, 1930 and will die December 3, 2021 here in St. Louis. She married Robert E. Porter. New England Family.

She is 33 NE. She is single and is a public-school teacher. Alice Marie Putnam is a daughter of Alonzo Putnam and Nellie Nailor from Vista County where she was at home in 1940. They were in Summer County Kansas in 1930 and in Custer, Keya Paha County Nebraska in 1920. Alice was born in Bassett Brow County, Nebraska January 11, 1917. They were in the 1910 here in St. Louis living with her mom Bridget Duffy and she was widowed then and have been here ever since. Still no clues or anything as to her Putnam husband.

He is 48 MO US MO and is an accountant in the water commissioner’s office. His wife Margaret Flynn is 48 and they were married May 24, 1922. They have Frances 27 MO, Charles W. Jr. 25 MO (listed below) and Elizabeth Jane 22 MO. In 1910 and 1920 he was here with his mother Annie and her second husband George Griffith. Annie was married to Charles William Putnam Senior from here. He died in 1900. He was a son of Charles Orrin Putnam and Susan E. Saul. His dad was from Massachusetts. Charles Senior was born in St. Louis November 18, 1901 and will die February 1, 1985.

He is a son of John Sylvester Putnam and Aura Effie Poundstone from Liberty, Stoddard County where he was born August 23, 1919 and he will die here in St. Louis in January 1989. Anna was born December 13, 1925 and will die January 2, 1996 after way too much fun on New Year’s Eve, and then watching all the football New Year’s Day Bowl games with keg of ale. Don’s line goes back to Illinois then back to Vermont.

She is 45 MO and now divorced. Her daughter Maury Jane 43 MO is still living with her. Dorothy Rose Vach was married to Howard Gleason Putnam here since they were married September 10, 1924 up through the 1940 census. They were divorced sometime in the 1940s. Howard is a son of Orlin Putnam and Minnie Herring from McDonough County Illinois. His mother died and his dad just took off and went to New Mexico with a new wife. He left the kids with Minnie’s folks in Hancock County Illinois. Howard was there in 1920. They were married here in 1930 and 1940. Howard was born August 16, 1899 in McDonough County and will die here in St. Louis May 24, 1982. Dorothy was born here in St. Louis July 31, 1904, and will die here January 21, 1981. They were married here September 10, 1924. New England line.

She is 32 MO single and works in a bank. Erna Mae is a daughter of Roy Clifton Putman and Ruth Inman and has been at home in Salem, Dent County up through the 1940. She will never get married and die December 6, 2003 back in Dent County. Pennsylvania German family.

She is 62 IL and widowed. Frances Spencer was the second wife of Lyman Wheller Putnam here in 1930 and 1940. His first wife was Frances Gamblin and she died here September 2, 1920. Lyman died here May 14, 1941. He was a son of Wheeler Putnam and Vida Louisa Ferguson. He was born in Effingham County Illinois September 21, 1862. The family was in East St. Louis, Illinois in the 1880 and he had been here married since the 1880s. Frances was born June 9, 1888 in Bunker Hill, Macoupin County Illinois and will die here in St. Louis August 10, 1963. She was 26 years younger than Lyman and probably wore him out in bed. Also here is Florence Morris 67 IL and widowed. They are listed as partners. Are they Gay????

 

HAZEL PUTMAN  St. Louis City, St. Louis County

She is 34 KY and has Barbara 16 KY and Marilyn 15 KY. She says she is married but Her husband Henry isn’t around that I can find. Hazel Mae Gardner was married to Henry Huell Putman in Marshall County Kentucky in 1940. Henry Huell Putman is a son of John Putman and Sara Ellen Jones and was born there May 29, 1908. He married Hazel in Metropolis, Illinois September 3, 1932. She is a daughter of Rudy Mason Gardner and Fannie Nelson and was born in Hardin, Kentucky August 20, 1910 and will die in St. Louis, Missouri September 27, 1995. Henry will die in St. Louis August 16, 1960. So, they are still together it looks like.

He is 50 IL and living with his mother Minnie Herring who had remarried a Parsons guy after his dad just took off. Minnie is now 72 IL and widowed. Howard has been married to Dorothy Vach since the mid 1920s and in 1940, but they are separated now and will probably get divorced soon. He is a son of Orlin Putnam and Minnie Herring from McDonough County Illinois. Howard was born August 16, 1899 in McDonough County and will die here in St. Louis May 24, 1982.

He is James Charles or Charles James Putman Jr. He is a son of Charles James Putman and Vida May Woodside from Pemiscot County. He was at home with his widowed dad in Deering, Pemiscot County in 1940. He was born there in Deering June 8, 1922 and will die in Belleville, St. Clair County Illinois December 16, 1999. He married Martha in Deering December 29, 1945. Martha was born in Deering September 21, 1927 and will also die in Belleville on April 11, 1992.

She is 77 OH and widowed as she was in 1930. Her widowed daughter Iva Anne Brown. Mary Louisa Gregg was married to George Charles Putnam in Litchfield, Montgomery County Illinois from the time they were married there  April 14, 1891 till when he died January 9, 1929. She and the kids all were in St. Louis in 1930. Can’t find in 1940, but would be here. George was a son of Henry Putnam and Margaret Honican. He was born in Montgomery County February 3, 1868, and at home with his widowed mom in Will County in 1870, and then with a sister there in 1880. Then he and Mary were back in Montgomery County till he died. Family from Danvers, Massachusetts to Marietta, Ohio to Madison County Illinois.

 

MARY ELLEN & ROBERT PUTNAM  St. Louis City, St. Louis County

She is 10 MO and Robert is 8 MO. They live with their mother Myrtle 32 MI and her new husband John D. Cheatham 37 TN. Myrtle Vaden was married to Roy Putman born in Missouri 1910. Still cannot figure out either one. Found that Mary Ellen was born February 9, 1940, and died December 30, 2005.

 

PAULINE PUTNAM  St. Louis City, St. Louis County

She is 65 MO widowed and living in the Hawthorne Apartments which has mostly single folks that are widowed or divorced. A few families there but not many. I think the age is 55 MO and if so, she could be Pauline Putnam, daughter of Louis and Laura Putnam from St. Louis born in 1895. She may have married Kenneth Weber here and he died. They had a son Donald Putnam Weber. Just not sure at all.

He is 61 TN TN TN and works for the W.P.A. cement works, probably highways. His wife Ida Andreas is 60 MO, and they have Lillian 27 MO still at home. He is a son of John William and Mary Sanford Putman in Rutherford County Tennessee. John's folks were Joseph Putman and Lucinda Hearn of Wilson County Tennessee. He was born September 6, 1887 and will die June 3, 1956 in St. Louis. He was here in 1920, 1930 and 1940. Ida is a daughter of Anton and Pauline Andreas. She was born November 5, 1889 and will die here in St. Louis May 18, 1976. Southern Putmans.

 

TRUMAN L. (LEROY) PUTNAM  St. Louis City, St. Louis County

He is 24 IL and his wife Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Irene Crump is 19 MO and they have Audrey Louise 1 MO. Also here is his mom Audrey Margaret Putnam 47 IL. Audrey Jones was married to Stanly Jewel Putnam in Chicago where Truman was born July 5, 1926. He will die in St. Louis March 9, 1999. Now, Audrey was previously married to William Truman Nickens who was Trumans real daddy. They were married in Clinton County Illinois August 30, 1920. They split and then when she married Stanley Jewell Putnam Truman around 1928, he got the name Putnam pasted on his forehead. Then Stanley died June 4, 1942. Betty was born August 13, 1931 and will die May 31, 1968. They will have 6 more kids in the 1950s and 1960s.

 

WILLIAM L. (LEWIS) PUTNAM  St. Louis City, St. Louis County

He is 61 IA IA GER. His wife Edna May Auemnicht is 59 IL and they have their son Earl L. 19 MO. There are two granddaughters Sharon Vance 7 MO and Vicki L. Vance 4 MO. They would be connected to their daughter Loraine who was at home here in 1940. Edna was born in 1891 and will die here in St. Louis in 1970. He works for an Office Supply Company. He is a son of George Thomas Putnam and Mary Reuter Schmidt. They were in Plymouth County Iowa in 1900 and Dubuque in 1910 and here ever since. LEVERET S. (STUART) PUTMAN  University City, St. Louis County

He is 33 PA and his wife Doris Rose Brandt is 33 NY and they have John Stuart 6 NY. This one is interesting. He is a son of Leverette Loveland Putman and Edith Mae Groupe. He was born in Renovo, Clinton County Pennsylvania September 13,1916, and he was at home there in 1920. Then the marriage came apart. By 1930 Leveret will be living with his mom’s folks and his dad Leverette will be with a new wife, Julia,  in Buffalo, New York. His dad is a son of Dewitt Clinton Putman and Mary Elizabeth Riggle from Clinton County, Pennsylvania. In 1940 he is up in Buffalo with or near his dad and is married to Doris there. In 1940 he is a manager of a meat market. He enlisted in the Army in May, 1945. He now is a salesman of electric appliances. He will die in Paulding, Georgia November 18, 1977. Dutch family out of Montgomery County New York.

 

TIMOTHY PUTNAM  Clayton, University City, St. Louis County

He is 36 MA and his wife Nancy Chase Lionberger is 26 MO. They live with her folks John S. and Ann C. Lionberger. Tim is a son of George Thwing Putnam and Olivia Bangs Winslow from Dedham, Norfolk County Massachusetts, and was born there February 18, 1914 and will die in Marion, Plymouth County Massachusetts December 5, 2009. He graduated from Harvard in 1936. Nancy is a daughter of John S. and Ann C. Lionberger, and was born in St. Louis October 9, 1923 and will die in Marion, Plymouth County Massachusetts July 12, 2015. They were married in Marion, Massachusetts August 13, 1949. He works in a private airplane factory. There is a marriage record that has him marrying Evelyn Scott Miller in Portland, Oregon December 31, 1940. Age and place of birth fit him perfectly. They must have called it quits when he went into the U. S. Army out in Portland May 31, 1942, and was a Captain in 1949 when he married Nancy. I tried phoning him to get all the details, but the phone number I had, simply said he switched to a cell phone but didn’t give the number. I started in on a Single Malt Scotch and called it quits to trying to get more info.

 

BERNICE PUTNAM  Webster Groves, St. Louis County

She is 30 MO and single. She is a bank teller. Bernice is a daughter of Samuel Stephen Putnam and Louise Olson and was born in St. Francois, St. Francois County and was at home there through 1940. This is a Southern Putman/Putnam line that goes back to Gilmer County West Virginia and then Fauquier County Virginia. This line used the original Putnam spelling straight through.

 

FLOYD PUTMAN  Webster Groves, St. Louis County

He is 38 TN and his wife Myrtle Marie Rice is 37 KY and they have Ronald 13 KY and Judith Ann 8 MO. He works in a Chemical Company. They were married in Fulton, Kentucky October 18, 1936. Floyd Henderson Putman is a son of Hubert Lysanders Putman and Frances Ruth Pyle from Tennessee where he was born October 23, 1911. Hubert is a son of Henderson Griggs Putman and Flora Lovelace from Dyer County, Tennessee where he was born. Floyd will die here in St. Louis March 12, 1959. Myrtle was born in McCracken County, Kentucky September 23, 1912 and will die in St. Louis County August 28, 2007. They were in Hickman, Fulton County Kentucky in 1940. Family came out of North Carolina. Southern Putmans.

 

ELVIN J. (JOHN) PUTNAM  Liberty, Stoddard County

He is 35 MO and his wife Cora Mae Perry 37 MO and they have Rosalie 15 MO and a son Bobby J. 9 MO. He works as a rental or tenant farmer, probably on his dad’s farm. He is a son of the following John Sylvester Putnam and Aura Poundstone. He was born here February 16, 1915, and will die in Dexter, Stoddard County March 18, 1901. Cora’s folks were Charles Harrison Perry and Myrtle Mae Brown. She was born May 26, 1913 and will die April 4, 2012. Rand Putnam did some sorta research recently on Elvin and found out he became sick of being called Elvin and the chipmunks. He changed his first name to Elton and that’s where Elton John the gay piano guy got his name. Boy that took a lot of study. Thanks Rand.

He is 33 MO, his wife Vivian Perry is 28 MO and they have Max Lynn 11 MO, Harold L. 8 MO, Larry D. 5 CA and Gary G. 5 CA. Elbert Glenn is a son of John Sylvester Putnam and Aura Poundstone from here and lived next to them or more likely right with them in 1940. He is now a shoe shop operator. He was born in Dexter, Stoddard County May 1, 1917 and will die here June 2, 1998. He married Vivian in Clay County Arkansas December 13, 1937. She is recorded as being born in Mills, Texas April 18, 1922, but always says she was born here in Missouri.

 

EMMET W. (WELLS) PUTNAM  Clay Township, Sullivan County

He is 43 MO MO MO and an auto mechanic in his own business. His new wife Dorothy Derringer is 36 MO and they still have, Bernard Leland 18 MO and Barbara Allen 16 MO. He is a son of Ervin Adelbert Putnam and Sarah Minnie Wells from Putnam County. He was born in Lucerne, Putnam County and was at home there up till 1920. He will die in Unionville, Putnam County on September 11, 1988. He married Violet Roxanna Stokes here October 31, 1928. Something happened, divorce I guess, as he was here in 1930 and 1940 with Violet. He married Dorothy here June 16, 1945. Dorothy was born May 31, 1913 and will die October 5, 1985. Emmett was born March 27, 1906 and will die September 11, 1988. They are buried in Putnam County, Missouri. New England family from Massachusetts.

 

EMMA PUTNAM  Nevada City, Vernon County

She is 63 MO and widowed. Emma Steiner married Edward Putnam as his second wife December 26, 1918. Emma was born in Prairie City, Missouri April 28, 1886, and will die in St. Louis in January 1970. She is a daughter of Rudolph Steiner and Eliza Ellen Wirtz. Edward Frederick Putnam is a son of Charles Putnam and Sarah Lancaster of Clay County Kansas and a grandson of Newton Putnam from Massachusetts. He was born in Clay County Kansas December 3, 1871, and was here till he died August 30, 1944. He originally married Mary Ann Shoaf April 14, 1894. They divorced and he married Emma December 26, 1918. New England folks.

 

PUTTMANS, PUTTMANNS AND PITTMANS  All Around the Counties

There are about 20 folks with real bad writing and names spelled ‘differently.’ I can’t find any of them in 1940 and pretty sure they are Pittmans, maybe Pattmans or something, but I can’t associate them with any Putmans or Putnams. IF ANYONE can nail them as Putmans let me know. I’ll even buy you a drink. Thanks
