EDWARD PUTMAN  Carnegie, Allegheny County

He is actually Edward Frank PORTMAN. Rand found a sheet and he’s not a Putnam or Putman.

 

SAMUEL H. (HILDRETH) PUTNAM, JR.  Pittsburgh, Allegheny County

He is 41 OH, Clara M. 35 NY, Clara L. 7 IL, Abigail F. 5 IL, Samuel H. (3rd) 4 NY and one non relative. He is a son of Samuel Hildreth and Abigail Putnam. He was born in Marietta, Washington County Ohio. He'll be here again in 1920.

 

ALVA J. PUTMAN  Pitcairn, Allegheny County

He is 26 OH and is enumerated with J. F. Holland. He is a son of William Joseph Putman and Carolyn Olmstead, German family. He was born August 16, 1883 in Stark County Ohio. He will marry Edith Miller here soon and be in Pittsburgh in 1920 and 1930.

 

NORMAN L. (LOUIS) PUTNAM  Pitcairn, Allegheny County

He is 29 CAN, Annie F. 29 CAN, Norman C. 6 PA. New faces from up north. He is a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Bouey from Niagara, Niagara County Ontario. He was single in Niagara County New York in 1900 and here by around 1905 or so.  He and Annie are here through 1940 at least. Dutch family from New York State earlier.

 

BOONE PUTNAM  Pittsburgh, Allegheny County

He is 42 PA, Christina S. Haberstroh 35 GER, Catherine E. 9 PA, Christina H. 6 PA, Grace E. 3 PA, Elizabeth L. 3 PA. He is a son of Walter Putnam and Elizabeth MacMillan, and was born here. Christina will be widowed here in 1920. And with their daughter Christina in California in 1935 and 1940.

 

CHARLES M. PUTMAN  Pittsburgh, Allegheny County

He is 32 CAN, Maude A. 27 PA, Frederick E. NR (less than a year) PA. He is the son of Jacob Putman and Mary Jane Bouey from Niagara, Niagara County Ontario. Dutch family from New York State originally. They are in nearby Pitcairn in 1920 and 1930, where his cousin Norman is now.

 

ELIZABETH PUTNAM  Pittsburgh, Allegheny County

She is 70 OH and is living alone. I can't find her in Ohio. She must have married a Putnam, but been somewhere else recently. Interesting note. Sam Hildreth Putnam from Marrietta, Ohio is now here in Pittsburgh and she may be connected to him, but I have no idea how. Just starting rumors I guess.

 

GEORGE W. PUTNAN  Pittsburgh, Allegheny County

He is 31 PA, Edith R. 35 MA, Isaac W. Clarke (BL) 54 MA, and one non relative. A son of Burton and Flora. He was with them in 1880 and 1900 in Erie County.

 

HARRY PUTMAN  Pittsburgh, Allegheny County

He is 25 PA and is living alone. He is Stewart's son and was alone in Somerset County in 1900.

 

IDA M. PUTNAM  Pittsburgh, Allegheny County

She is 49 PA, John C. 29 VA, Earl E. Boren (N) 22 PA. In 1900, she was here living with Harry Boren, probably her brother and the dad of this Earl. She was married to Marcellus Putnam in Richmond, Henrico County Virginia in 1880. He must have died as she lists herself as widowed in the next census. Now she shows that she has a son John Carden Putnam who would have been 19 in 1900 but not listed. He is with her in 1920 through 1930. She is here in Pittsburgh through the 1930 census. Don’t find either in the 1940.

 

JAMES PUTTMAN  Pittsburgh, Allegheny County

He is 28 SC, Annie 22 SC, Sclesty (Celeste?) 6 SC, Nelson A. 2 SC, Frank Uston (NR) 37 PA, Geornia Uston 32 OH. James is listed as Black American, as are all the others.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Allegheny County

He is 73 ENG and is living alone. He's been in Pittsburgh up till now.

 

ERNEST PUTNAM  Allegheny County

He is 40 ME, Ida Emma Fireobin his wife is 38 GER. He's new to the area. Ernest Redmont Putnam is a son of William Tasker Putnam and Aorline Boody from Waldo County Maine. In the early 1870s his dad just took off for Brightwood, Indiana by himself and abandoned his wife and all the kids back in Maine. Dad married Lillie McGahan out there in 1876 and was there in the 1880. Ernest was born January 1, 1869 in Waldo County Maine and will die November 10, 1928 in Baldwin Park, California. Ida was born in Germany November 21, 1871 and will die December 18, 1950 in Los Angeles, California.  Ernest and Ida were in Rochester, New York in 1900 and will be in Crafton, Pennsylvania in 1920. Ida is widowed in Covina, Los Angeles County in 1930 and she is widowed in El Monte, Los Angeles County in 1940.

 

KELLY PUTTMAN  Allegheny County

She is 27 SC and is enumerated with William Carter and listed as Black American. Her son James (lees than a year old) PA is here as well.

 

RAYMOND H. PUTMAN  Allegheny County

He is 27 PA, Elizabeth 25 ENG, Ruth 6 PA, Girard 4 PA. He is a son of John E. and Jennie Putman from Lycoming County. He will be widowed and back in Lycoming County by 1920 and 1930. Dutch family.

 

ARTHUR R. (REUBEN) PUTNAM  Canton, Bradford County

He is 29 PA, Marion Lumella Fitzwater 24 PA, Eveline M. 3 PA, Erma L. less than a year old PA. He was born right here August 18, 1880, a son of Erastus Putnam and Mariette Roberts.

 

ELIZABETH PUTMAN  Granville, Bradford County

She is Elizabeth Gilman 63 NY, Mollie M. 25 PA, Robert L. 21 PA. She has been here forever. She is the widow of Harvey who was Luman's son. He died here in 1892 and she will die soon in 1912.

 

ALBERT PUTNAM  Granville Township, Bradford County

Albert is 42 PA, Synthia (Cynthia) 49 PA, Floyd 14 PA. Another native, a son of Harvey and Elizabeth.

 

ORVILLE J. (JOHN) PUTMAN  Sayre, Bradford County

He is 25 PA, Mabel McGill 21 PA, Claude NR PA. In 1900, he was in Granville with his mother Sallie Rockwood, and his father Orville G. Putnam was off in Washington DC.

 

ALICE M. PUTMAN  Towanda, Bradford County

She is Alice Moreley 63 PA, Mary A. 24 PA, and William J. 28 PA. She is the widow of Luman, jr. and was here in 1900 and widowed with these kids. William is also listed now in a hotel in Buffalo New York working on a telegraph line. In 1920 they are here and William is still here.

 

HERBERT S. (SAXTON) PUTMAN  Towanda, Bradford County

He is 47 PA, Emma Stewart his wife is 39 PA. They were married here September 10, 1898 and have Herbert Saxton Jr. 10 PA (born October 1, 1899 and died June 2, 1943), John Stewart 9 PA, Anna Ellen 4 PA, and Grace Matilda 2 PA. He is Alfred and Matilda's son. Something happened to Herbert, as in 1920 Emma and all these present kids will be living with her father John Stewart here in Towanda.

 

ED W. PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is 56 (he is listed as SU, whatever that means) PA, Amanda M. Herda his wife 50 PA, Walter H. 23 PA. He is Philander Putnam and Mary Spencer's son and was born here. He was here in 1870 and 1880 in Bradford County. I can’t find him in 1900. In this census and in 1900, there are several folks I have no idea who they belong to. The first time I find Edward was in 1860 when he was at home and 6 years old.

 

ERASTUS PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is 82 NY, Mariette (Roberts) 76 PA, Bessie E. 38 PA. He is a son of Henry and Mary and has been here since the 1850s.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is 36 CAN, Mabel 19 PA. They will be here again in 1920 and 1930 with some kids.

 

HARRY PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is 32 PA and is enumerated with his father in law Franklin Baxter. Also there are his wife Hattie (Harriet Baxter) 29 PA and their daughter Helen Elizabeth 3 PA. Harry is Harvey's son and was born here.

 

LANA PUTNAM  Bradford County

She is 55 PA, S. Abigail 19 PA and one non relative. She is the widow of Milton Putnam.

 

LESLIE F. PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is 53 PA, Annie E. (Fuller) 50 PA, Emily Fuller (mother in law) 77 NY. He is Philander's son and was born in the county.

 

LOUIS J. PUTMAN  Bradford County

He is 48 NY, Edna R. 36 PA. He was here in 1900 and will be in 1930. He looks like the son of Archibald and Elizabeth Putman from Tioga County New York. Dutch folks.

 

MERTON A. (ADAM) PUTMAN  Bradford County

He is 51 PA, Nettie 42 PA. He is Philander's son and was born here. He was listed as Adam back in 1860 and as Martin in 1900.

 

MILAN H. PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is a son of Philander and Mary Putnam, and was born here in Granville. He is 42 PA, Margaret 40 PA, Oakley Sludden (a nephew) 40 PA.

 

R. AZOR PUTNAM  Troy, Bradford County

Azor Rockwell is 35 PA, E. Gertrude Walborn 27 PA, Ruth 3 PA, D. Harold NR PA, H. Donald NR (born June 16, 1909) PA. They are also listed in Crawford County. He was in Bradford County in 1900 and will be still here in 1920 and 1930. He is a son of Harvey Putnam and Elizabeth Gilman. He was adopted and raised by his father’s sister Eliza Rockwell and her husband Azor Rockwell from here in Bradford County.

 

SCOTT W. (WINFIELD) PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is 49 PA, Mary A. Taylor 47 PA, Earnest Rose (Son) 1 NR. He was here in 1900. He is a son of Philander and Mary Putnam from Granville Township.

 

SILAS L. PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is 32 PA, Eva Novel his wife 24 PA, Lester M. 2 PA, Laura A just born PA. He was born here, Milton and Lana's son.

 

SYLVESTER PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is 70 PA, Wealthy (Mary) 58 PA, Helen Strock (stepdaughter) 28 PA. He is Isaac's son and has been here every day of his life.

 

WILLIAM H. PUTNAM  Bradford County

He is 35 PA, Minnie (Watts) 34 PA, William H. Jr. 5 PA, Herbert A. 2 PA, Adelia Watts 61 PA. He is Erastus' son, and was born here.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Bucks County

He is 65 ENG, Rebecca T. 62 PA, Rebecca P. Stewart (granddaughter) 3 PA. The family was in Philadelphia in 1900. The young Rebecca is the daughter of John's daughter Rebecca who was home with the family in 1900.

 

CHARLES E. PUTMAN  East Conemaugh, Cambria County

He is 30 PA and is enumerated with Lloyd Shade. He is a son of Stewart Putman and Elizabeth Dunmire. He was at home in 1880 in East Huntington, Westmoreland County and in Quemahoming  Township, Somerset County Pennsylvania in 1900. Pretty sure he is the same guy in the next listing. He is listed next with his new wife Angeline Johnson.

 

CHARLES E. (EDWARD) PUTMAN  Johnstown, Cambria County

He is 31 PA, Angie (Angeline Johnson) 33 PA. Another German family. He is a son of Stewart Putman from Somerset County. His brother Robert lives here in Johnstown also.

 

ROBERT PUTMAN  Johnstown, Cambria County

He is 30 PA and is enumerated with Florence Leff as a boarder. He is Robert Nelson Putman, Stewart's son from Somerset County German family. He was married to Mabel Seibert. In 1920, she is back in Somerset County with their only child, Lindsey born in 1901.

 

ERNEST PUTNAM  Cambria County

He is 31 BLG, Illie 31 BLG, Theodore 2 PA. Also a newcomer from Belgium.

 

ALONZO PUTNAM  Cross Forks, Clinton County

He is 24 CAN, Edith Bennett 23 PA, Kenneth A. 4 PA, Lawrence E. 1 PA. According to a descendant, Alonzo came from Sardinia (Ontario), Canada to PA and married Edith Bennett of Williamsburg, PA. His folks were Harmon Putman and Laura Culp of Canada. Laura was widowed in Potter County PA in 1900 with the kids. Alonzo will later move to Cincinnati, OH.

 

HEBER PUTMAN  Renovo, Clinton County

He is 25 PA, Josie Scriver or Hevner his wife is 22 PA. He is a son of the following Dewitt and Mary Elizabeth Putman. He wasn’t listed in 1900 but then neither was his dad. Clerical thing I guess. They are here and he will die in a train accident November 20, 1915.

 

DEWITT C. (CLINTON) PUTMAN  Clinton County

He is 53 NY, Mary Elizabeth Riggle his wife is 48 PA, Delbert C. 18 PA, Levrett L. 12 PA, Leland L. 10 PA, Lester 6 PA, Bentley I. (Benjamin in 1920 and Bentley again in 1930 when he is married in Buffalo, New York) 3 PA. He is a son of James Walter Putman and Julia Mellon of Tioga County.

 

HARRY C. (CLAYTON) PUTMAN  Clinton County

He is 22 PA, Pearl Eleanor Linn 21 PA. He is a son of Dewitt and Mary Elizabeth Putman of Potter County (folks are here in Clinton County now). He was born September 3, 1887 and will die in Buffalo, New York January 29, 1948.

 

INA PUTMAN  Clinton County

She is 21 PA and is enumerated with her brother in law Jacob A. Heickel. She is a daughter of George and Alice of Tioga County (Dutch family). Jacob married her sister Ethel Putman.

 

JOHN E. PUTNAM  Centerville, Crawford County

He is 57 PA and ‘widowed’. He is a night watchman. He popped up here in 1880 with his grandmother Elizabeth Dix. He was here in 1900 and was single then too. Rand found a death record stating his folks were John Wilson Putnam and Jerusha Dix. He is here in 1920. He will die here September 16, 1927.

 

ELLA J. PUTMAN  Meadville, Crawford County

She is 55 PA and is enumerated with her brother in law John D. McMichael. Ella Jane is a spinster daughter of Warren and Sylvana and has been here with John since the 1890s.

 

LUCIUS E. PUTNAM  Meadville, Crawford County

He is 39 PA, Jennie 36 PA, Raymond 10 PA, Clinton 4 PA, Walter Welch (stepson) 19 PA. He was born here, a son of Alfred and Philena Putnam.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Sparta, Crawford County

He is 72 NY, Elenora (Elenora Fidelia) 69 PA. He is Lewis and Mary Ann's son and has been here since the 1840s.

 

EDGAR PUTNAM  Summit Township, Crawford County

He is 43 PA, his brother Wilbur P. 46 PA, Wilbur's wife Effie 48 PA, their daughter Reba M. 25 PA. Edgar and Wilbur are sons of William Putnam and Sarah Fetterman. They were born here.

 

BESSIE S. PUTNAM  Crawford County

She is 51 PA (sister) and is enumerated with Zeno W. Putman. Both are kids of Levi Putnam and Elizabeth Whiting. They are all here in 1920.

 

CHARLES E. PUTNAM  Crawford County

He is 52 PA and is living alone. He is a son of William & Elizabeth and was born here. It doesn't look like he ever married.

 

JAMES S. (STILLMAN) PUTNAM  Crawford County

He is 72 PA, John S. (brother) 75 PA, Syntha (Cynthia) (sister) 43 PA. They are all kids of Phineas and Jane. They have been living together, and none ever married.

 

JAY A. (AUGUSTUS) PUTNAM  Centerville, Crawford County

He is a son of Sidney Putnam and Mary Adelia Ward, and was born here March 22, 1875. He is 35 PA PA PA, Addie Permelia Goodwill his wife is 27 PA, Elmer D. 11 PA, Ellis D. 11 PA, Leonard L. 6 PA, Laota L. 4 PA, Howard K. NR PA. They were married in Sanford, Warren County on December 18, 1901. The census record shows they have been married 9 years, and this is his second, her first marriage. He is a telegraph operator and will be around till he dies here July 19, 1970.

 

JOHN S. PUTNAM  Crawford County

He is 75 PA and enumerated with his brother James S. Putnam. He is Phineas' son. He never married just lived with his brother and sister here.

 

MONROE L. PUTNAM  Crawford County

He is 25 PA, Ruth 21 MI, Gerald H. 2 PA, Harold NR (under a year old) PA. He is a son of Edwin and Mary, and was born here.

 

R. (ROCKWELL) AZOR PUTNAM  Crawford County

Azor Rockwell is 35 PA, E. Gertrude Walborn 27 PA, Ruth 3 PA, D. Harold NR PA, H. Donald NR (born June 16, 1909) PA. They are also listed back in Bradford County. He was in Bradford County in 1900 and will be back in Bradford County in 1920 and 1930. He is a son of Harvey Putnam and Elizabeth Gilman. He was adopted and raised by his father’s sister Eliza Rockwell and her husband Azor Rockwell from here in Bradford County.

She is 25 PA and is living with her Uncle Edgar Putman. She is Wilbur's daughter and was at home with him in 1900.

She is 75 PA and is enumerated with J.K. Marshall. She is Sarah E. Kerr, widow of Warren Putman.

 

SIDNEY R. PUTNAM  Crawford County

He is 60 PA, Mary E. 53 PA. He is Ransom's son, and was born here.

 

SYNTHA PUTNAM  Crawford County

She is 43 PA and is enumerated with her brother James S. Putnam. They are kids of Phineas who never married.

 

WALTER M. PUTMAN  Crawford County

He is 34 PA, Electa 34 PA, Elsie M. 7 PA, Clarence C. 5 PA, Deckman M. 3 PA. He is a son of Alfred and Philena. He was born here.

 

WILBUR P. PUTMAN  Crawford County

He is 46 PA and is enumerated with his brother Edgar Putman. They are sons of William and Sarah, and were born here.

 

ZENO (XENOPHAN) PUTNAM  Crawford County

He is 43 PA, Bessie S. (Sister) 51 PA, Irene 16 PA, Arlene 16 PA, Glenn 14 PA, Clara 13 PA. Zenophan or Xenophan is a son of Levi Putnam and Elizabeth Whiting. Born here.

 

FREDERICK H. PUTMAN  Harrisburg, Dauphin County

He is 48 VA, Katie A. 40 PA, Samuel T. 22 PA, Elsie A. Baer (a step daughter, listed as Elsie Hoover in 1900, but now married) 18 PA, Mertie G. Putman (their own daughter) 13 PA.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Steelton, Dauphin County

He is 26 PA and is enumerated with his brother in law Charles A. Seible and wife Nora. He is a son of Fred H. Putman and was at home in Harrisburg in 1900.

 

FRANK C. (CURTIS) PUTMAN  Radnor, Delaware County

He is 41 NY NY VT, Mary 35 (should be Minnie 42) NY, Catherine 11 MA, and one non relative. He is a minister and the son of James Osborne Putnam and his second wife Kate Wright from Buffalo New York. He was home there in 1880. Frank married Minnie Davis in Buffalo June 24, 1896. He was a Congregational minister in Walpole, Norfolk County Massachusetts where Catherine was born. They were in Woodstock Vermont in 1900 and are still here in 1920.

 

HARRIET A. PUTNAM  Swarthmore, Delaware County

Harriet Allen is the widow of Leon Putnam. They were here in 1900. She is 39 PA, Iona G. 16 PA, Allen L. 10 PA. Also there are John Rappel 33 PA and May E. (her sister) 29 PA.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Corry, Erie County

He is 38 PA and is enumerated as a boarder with John C. Tubbs. Looks like the son of John and Nancy as shown in 1880 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.

 

ALICE PUTNAM  Franklin Township, Erie County

She is 87 NY and enumerated with Curtis A. Putnam. She is William Leander's widow and been here forever. Curtis is her son, and gets his own separate listing soon.

 

ALICE E. PUTNAM  Franklin Township, Erie County

She is 87 NY, Alice 58 PA. Just a duplicate of the above listing, but she is back in her own house with her daughter just as they were in 1900.

 

CURTIN A. PUTNAM  Erie County

He is 47 PA, Lizzie (Elizabeth Fry) 43 PA, Archie 24 PA, Blanche 23 PA, Bessie 16 PA. Also there is his mother Alice 87 NY. His folks were William Leander and Alice Putnam. There is a note in an IGI listing that states his name as Curtin, which is the way it looked in 1900 and 1930. His name may well be Curtis though, don't know.

 

CALISTA L. PUTNAM  North East Township, Erie County

She is 68 PA and enumerated with Mary S. Putnam. Mary is Melvin's widow. I would guess Calista is her sister, and not a Putnam.

 

NANCY PUTMAN  Union, Erie County

She is 86 VT and is enumerated with her brother in law John Spaulding. She is Nancy Burroughs, William's widow and has been here since the 1840s.

 

BURTON H. (HILL) PUTNAM  North East Township, Erie County

He is 60 NY and listed with 1 non related person. Been here since the 1870s, will be till he dies in 1928. He will soon marry Lillian Wattles and they are here in 1930.

 

CLAIR A. (ARTHUR) PUTNAM  Erie County

He is indexed as Clair A., but it was listed Chas. A. in 1880 and 1900 and then Clair again in 1920 which is his actual name. He is a son of Adelbert Putnam and was born in neighboring Warren County. He is now 30 PA, Alice E. Peavy 29 PA, Fred P. 4 PA. In 1920, he and young Fred will be back home with his folks. Don't know what happened to Alice in the next few years.

 

FRED F. PUTNAM  Erie County

He is 53 PA, Alice E. (King) 46 PA. He is a son of Alvanda and Eliza Jane Sweet and was here in 1900. He was born in Warren County.

 

JANE PUTNAM  Erie County

She is Henry's widow, 79 PA, Nellie 40 PA.

 

JOHN S. PUTNAM  Erie County

He is 81 NY and is living alone. He was here in 1900, and I don't know yet who he was.

 

KIRK W. (WILLIAM) PUTNAM  Erie County

He is 24 PA, Addie 24 PA. He is a son of Wilbur and Effie Putnam from Crawford County. I don’t know who Addie is. They will have a son Wilbur in the next couple of months. Addie will die and he will marry Bertha Stanley March 20, 1916 over in Wheeling, West Virginia. They are in Mercer County Pennsylvania in 1920 and 1930. The son Wilbur will be with them in 1920.

 

MARY S. PUTNAM  Erie County

She is 70 PA, Calista L. (Sister) 68 PA. Mary is Melvin's widow.

 

CHARLES (CLARK) H. PUTMAN  Fayette County

He is 22 PA, Bertha Singo 22 PA, Waid (Wade) 2 PA. His brother Roy 21 PA lives with them. He is a son of Silas Putman and Annie Meyers from Somerset County. In 1900 he was at home and listed as Clark, and will be listed as Clark in 1920 in Somerset County. The name is Clark Myles Putman. German family.

He is 33 AUT, Annie 33 AUT, Katy 5 PA, Mary 2 PA. Newcomers from Austria.

 

RAY (ROY) PUTMAN  Fayette County

He is 21 PA living with his brother Clark Putman. They are sons of Silas and Annie from Somerset County German family.

 

RUTLAND R. (RANSOM) PUTNAM  Forest County

He is 42 PA, Jennie B. Straight 38 PA, Alfred S. 18 PA, Emma E. 15 NY, Seraphina 13 NY, and six non relatives as well. He is a son of Alfred and Philena from Crawford County. He was home in 1880, but obviously headed up to New York State in the early 1890s.

 

WILLIAM M. PUTMAN  Lawrence County

He is 51 WI, Lilla 44 WI. Newcomers from Winnebago Co., Wisconsin. See 1920 for who he is.

 

EMMA B. PUTMAN  Murray, Lycoming County

She is 58 PA and is enumerated with her niece Cornelia L. McCarty. She was here with Mary McCarthy and her husband in 1900. She is an unwed daughter of Albert Brooks Putnam and Elizabeth Reynolds from here. Her sister Mary had married William McCarthy.

He is 68 PA, Jennie E. Moore 54 PA. Cornelius' son was here in 1900. Dutch family.

 

SOLOMAN PUTMAN  Lycoming County

He is 67 NY, Margaret A. 60 PA and one non relative. They were here in 1900. He is a son of John and Maria Putman, Dutch family out of New York.

 

FRED E. PUTMAN  Bradford, McKean County

She is a widow 72 GER GER GER and is living with her son Atwood Putman junior 32 PA ME GER. She is the second wife of Ivy Atwood from Rumford, Maine. They were all here in 1880, and she was widowed here in 1900. Ivy Atwood was a son of Samuel Putnam and his second wife Elizabeth Cobb of Rumford, Oxford County Maine

He is 27 PA, Rachel 26 PA, Hazel 4 PA, Dorothy 2 PA. They are in Youngstown, Ohio in 1920 and 1930.

 

HARRY S. (STICKNEY) PUTNAM  Sharpsville, Mercer County

He is 47 ME, Lela Eldert 35 MI, Harry S. Jr. 6 NY, Helen 4 PA and one non-relative. He is a newcomer. He is a son of George Quincy Hill Putnam and Sarah Stickney from Penobscot County Maine. He was single in Chicago in 1880 and divorced in Massillon, Ohio in 1900. In the 1900 he is boarding and has an Etta Eldert listed there as well. They got married! He married Lellia Eldert June 15, 1901 just over the border in Essex County Ontario, Canada. He is an agent for the telephone company. They are in Detroit Michigan in 1920 and 1930. I found a death certificate for Harry Junior born in Brooklyn, New York May 3, 1903 and will die here later this year after being hit by a truck on October 1, 1920.

Fietta is Bright's wife, Thelma their daughter. Dortha is probably a daughter of their daughter Blanche who was home unmarried in 1900. Mary and Bright are both widowed here in 1920 and still in 1930.

Jr. 20 NY a student at Harvard, Betty 17 NY, Alfred 15 NY and Katherine 11 NY. He is a son of George Putnam and Sarah M. Bill of Waterville, New York, and was born there December 31, 1855. He graduated from Harvard in 1879, and practiced law in Rochester, NY until 1895 when he came here to Philly. This line goes back Earl > George > Nathaniel > Micah > Nathan > Isaac > Edward > Thomas > John Putnam of Massachusetts.

He is 69 MA MA NH and his wife Lydia Currier 64 MA NH MA. Her widowed sister Mary Ann Black64 MA NH MA is with them. He is a son of James Augustus Putnam (number 2236) of Danvers, Massachusetts. He was born there April 25, 1841, and married Lydia Carter Currier there. They moved here in the 1880s. He is an inspector for the Gas Company. They are here in 1920 too.

He is 9 PA PA PA and a grandson of George and Gertrude Wetter. His mother Louisa Wetter 35 PA is now married to Edward Church or Schurch 29 MA. They have been married 3 years and this is the second marriage for both. Louisa was married to William Putnam here with her folks in 1900 and they got divorced. They are here in 1920. William is still divorced and is also here in Philadelphia and listed below.

He is a son of Frederick Putnam and Lydia Currier from Danvers Massachusetts. The family moved to Philadelphia in the 1880s.  He is married to Annie here in 1920.

He is 31 RUS RUS RUS and his wife Rebecca Nearel 28 RUS RUS RUS. They are Russian Jews and have been married 6 years and have Rose 5 PA, Fannie 3 PA and Harry 5/12 PA. Rebecca’s sister Ida Nearel is 20 RUS and single. They live in a Russian Jewish neighborhood. He is a tailor. They are here in 1920.

He is 38 PA ENG UNK (Actually Nova Scotia)  divorced and boarding with a Holmes family. He is a designer in a glass plant. He was married to Louisa Wedder here in 1900. She has remarried and is listed earlier with her folks. William is a son of George Washington Putnam and Harriet Caldwell Stuart/Stewart and was with the family in Fairview, Butler County Pennsylvania in 1880. His dad is a son of Moses Putnam and Mary Beaton from Nova Scotia, and was born in Philadelphia. They are now in Washington County, Maryland, and Harriet will be widowed there by 1920.

He is 69 VA, his grandson (son of his daughter Jinnie) Frankie Kephart 21 PA. He was here in 1900 and in Clearfield County in 1880, but I still have no idea who he is.

He is 21 NY PA PA and is boarding with Charles C. Parsons. He looks like Dewitt Putman’s son, but that guy is married in Clinton County now. Not sure. This Harry will be in an institution here in 1920, so I don’t think he is Dewitt’s.

Another Dutch family. He is a son of John and Maria and was born here. He is 66 PA, Mary 64 PA, Florence Hall (grand daughter) 6 PA. Florence is interesting, as George never had any kids listed in any census. Guess they had a daughter born after 1880 and married before 1900.

He is 72 NY, Abe 44 PA and two non-relatives. Jerome Henry junior has been here most of his life, folks came from Massachusetts.

He is 65 NY, Sallie (Sophia) Guernsey 67 PA. They were here in 1900, and then back in 1850 he was with his folks here. He is a son of Jonas Golusha Putnam and a grandson of Archelaus Putnam (1881) and Phebe Parker of Essex County New York. John is a lawyer here in town. He will die here March 4, 1919. Sophia will be in Brooklyn in 1920 with her son Morris. She will die March 5, 1926 and both are buried here in Evergreen Cemetery, Tioga Township.

He is 34 PA, Cora 34 PA, James 11 PA, Archy 7 PA. There are also Willis Webb a nephew 15 OH, Florence Webb a niece 11 PA, and three non relatives. Cora and James were in Crawford County in 1900 by themselves. Harry is a son of Edwin and Mary Putnam from Crawford County.

He is 19 (12) PA and is enumerated with Thomas W. Dingman, listed as an inmate. This must be an institution, as in 1920 through 1940 he is an inmate here in the Western PA Institute for the Feeble Minded. He is a son of Lucius and Jennie Putnam from Crawford County. He was shown at home in 1900 as born in July 1897 and then ‘gone’ in 1910. Probably was in the Institute before he shows in the 1910 census.

 

CAROLINA PUTNAM  Sheffield, Warren County

She is 29 PA ME GER, a boarder with John and Mary Hine. She is a public schoolteacher. She is a daughter of Ivy Atwood Putnam from Rumford Maine and his second wife Louisa from Germany. The family was in McKean County Pennsylvania in 1880. Her mother Louise was widowed there and still is. Caroline will become a nurse and is in Manhattan New York City in 1920 and 1930.

He is 59 NY MA VT and runs a grist mill. His wife Lucinia Pierce is 62 PA. Valentine’s son was born here. They are in Erie County in 1920.

She is 21 PA and is enumerated with Alice Brown as an 'inmate'. Current thinking is she is the daughter of George D. Putnam and Alice Brown as shown on her marriage record. George was shown at home in 1880 in Potter, Yates. County New York. He was a son of James Putnam and Elizabeth Darbyshire and there with them in the 1880. In 1900 Dora is shown with her brother Jessie in East Randolph Cattaraugus County New York. Her folks were from here in Pennsylvania too.

He is 40 PA, Jane Sweet Putnam (his mother) 79 PA, Hazel 16 PA, Waive (Maeve?) 12 PA. He is Alvanda's son, and was born here. Dad died in 1904, but mom is here. He was married here in 1900, and the two daughters are his. By 1920 he will have a new wife and new kids.

Eliza Jane Sweet is 79 NY, Alvanda's widow, and enumerated with her son Herbert Putnam.

 

JULIA PUTNAM  Warren County

She is 64 PA and enumerated with her daughter Minnie Fisher. She is the widow of Mortimer Putnam and was with him in 1900 in Carroll. Chautauqua County New York in 1900. He was a son of Ephraim Putnam of Ellery. He was married to Mary Jane Osgood, and married to Julia by 1880. Julia’s name is Julia Ann Brown, but she was married earlier and Brown may be her married not maiden name.

He is 34 PA, Lottie Mahon his wife 37 PA, Grace M. 11 PA, Fern 9 PA, Perry P. (Philip in 1920) 7 PA, Harrison 5 PA, Helen 2 PA. He is Perry and Margaret's son and was born here. Lottie will be in Erie, Erie County and widowed in 1920 through 1940 at least.

He is 39 IL, Alice Maud Ramsdell 33 NY, Leslie Depledge (SS) 16 NY, Claire Depledge (SD) 13 NY, Murl (Merle) Putnam 10 PA. He is a son of Hiram A. Putnam and Elizabeth Phillips from here in Warren County. He was born while they were in Bureau County Illinois. He and Alice were in Chautauqua County New York in 1900. They will be here in 1920 as well. Alice was married before, as the kids are listed as stepchildren.

She is 32 NY, Howard D. 12 PA, Lloyd P 11 PA, Duncan Patterson (Uncle) 63 SCT. Mary Jane Patterson is the widow of Glen Joseph Putnam and was with him in 1900 in McKean County. They were originally from here in Warren. Glen was the son of the following Thomas and Abbie Putnam. Mary Jane is widowed here still in 1920 and then will marry Erhart M. Schwing and be with him in 1930.

He is 75 PA, Abigail Akeley 73 PA. Dan and Betsy's son was born here in Pine Grove on December 30, 1834 and will die in Russell Warren County on April 26 1913. Abigail Akeley was born September 1, 1836 in Russell and will die here later this year. They were married May 29, 1858 in Russell.

He is 56 NY, Mathilda ‘Susan’ Humphrey his wife 53 PA. He was here in 1900, and is a son of Lewis and Mary from Crawford County. They will be in Washington County Oklahoma in 1920. Their son Verne is there right now.

He is a son of Stewart Putman and Eliza Ann Dunmeyer from Somerset County next door. In 1930 they are in Cleveland, Ohio and he is then a truck driver.

CATHERINE D. (DOUGLAS) PUTNAM  Aspinwall, Allegheny County

She is 77 OH and enumerated with Samuel Doubt. She is listed as his sister in law, Think he was the one that married her sister Elizabeth Perkins Putnam who died here. She is Catherine Douglas Putnam a daughter of David Putnam Jr. (Eben Putnam #1573) and Hannah Munson. She was born in Harmar, Washington County Ohio August 9, 1842 and find-a-grave has her death there on January 13, 1892. But that is not her or read wrong. She is going strong in 1920 in Pennsylvania She is home there in 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880. In the Ohio 1880 she is single and 37 years old. Then she is also listed in Topeka Kansas in 1880 as a teach and is there single in 1895, 1900, 1905. Then in 1910 she is out in Sacrament, California with her widowed sister Mary Burr Putnam. Then in 1920 she is in Aspinwell, Allegheny County Pennsylvania with the widowed husband of another sister Elizabeth Perkins Putnam. This is a direct line that goes back to Israel Putnam Jr. of Ohio to his daddy General Israel Putnam of the Revolutionary War that got us out on our own as the good old USA.

He is 34 PA and is living with his wife Olive P. Dewalt 28 PA and son Herman A. 11 PA. I think this is Loren Putman from Crawford County. That family wasn't indexed in 1910, so I can't be certain. However, his son Wayne is now with his mom, Blanche and her new husband, Barney Richardson back in Crawford County. The ages aren't quite right, but it all seems to fit.

He is 50 ME ME ME, Ida Emma Fireobin his wife is 49 GER. There is a servant/maid Casi Diethlam 35 SWT with them. They are kids of William Tasker Putnam and Aorline Boody from Waldo County Maine. In the early 1870s his dad just took off for Brightwood, Indiana by himself and abandoned his wife and all the kids back in Maine. Dad married Lillie McGahan out there in 1876 and was there in the 1880. Ernest was born January 1, 1869 in Waldo County Maine and will die November 10, 1928 in Baldwin Park, California. Ida was born in Germany November 21, 1871 and will die December 18, 1950 in Los Angeles, California. Ernest and Ida were in Rochester New York in 1900 and here in 1910. Ida is widowed in Covina, Los Angeles County in 1930 and she is widowed in El Monte, Los Angeles County in 1940.

He is 29 NY and is living with his wife Jennie C. 27 PA and Charlotte 7/12 PA. He is Raymond A. Putnam son of Arthur Putnam and Crissie Burriet from Weedsport, Cayuga County New York. He was at home there in 1900 and 1910, and will be in Pittsburgh in 1930.

She is 59 PA and is living with her son John 37 VA. She has been here since the 1890s and widowed all that time. She was married to Marcellus Putnam in Richmond, Henrico County Virginia in 1880. He must have died as she lists herself as widowed in the next census. Now she shows that she has a son John Carden Putnam who would have been 19 in 1900 but not listed. They are here in 1930 too.

The son Donald Harvey Putnam was born June 16, 1909 and will marry Thelma Bailey here on August 30, 1930. He will die in Mansfield, Tioga County Pennsylvania December 4, 1977.

He is 39 PA lodging with John Schellbammer. He is Stewart Putman’s son, Robert Nelson Putman from Somerset County. He was here in 1910 as well. He was supposedly married to Mabel Seibert, but she is presently back in Somerset County listed under her maiden name. She also has their only son, Lindsey age 18 with her.

 

ROY PUTMAN  Johnstown, Cambria County

He is 30 PA and is living with his wife Ruth Hoover 28 PA, their daughters Anna L. 5 PA, Ruth M. 3 11/12 PA, Margaret 1 2/12 PA and his in-laws James Hoover 63 PA and Abbie Hoover 60 NY. He is a son of Silas and Abbie from Somerset County. German folks. They are in Blair County by 1930 and back here by 1940.

He is 31 IL MA MO and divorced. He is a salesman and a boarder. He should be a son of Edgar W. Putnam and Mary W. McLeod from Ogden, Illinois. He was born there January 17, 1889 and was at home there in 1900 According to his draft card of 1917 he was living in Tulia, Texas at the time with a wife and 2 kids, but was separated at that time.

He is 29 PA, wife Elsie (Pearl Eleanor Linn) 27 PA and daughter Luella 7 PA. It would make sense that he is DeWitt's son, except he should now be 32. I really don't know. They will get divorced and Elsie and the kids (2 sons Cedric and George) will be in Cumberland, Allegany County Maryland in 1930. The two sons are presently here in Clinton listed with last name of King and living with their grandparents George and Mary Lucas. I guess all 3 of these kids are Elsie’s in a prior marriage. Harry is remarried and is in Buffalo in 1930.

He is 27 PA, Edna Killinger 23 PA, Richard 1 6/12 PA, Donald 2/12 PA. Mary Killinger 19 PA (border and Edna’s sister) is here too. He is Dewitt and Mary Elizabeth's son. He was born here. They are here with more kids in 1930.

She is 5 3/12 PA and is enumerated with John L. Kundrath, as a stepdaughter. She is a daughter of Herbert and Jessie who where here earlier. Jessie married John Kundrath. Her brother Philip 7 is here as well.

 

PHILLIP PUTMAN  Renovo, Clinton County

He is 7 9/12 and is enumerated with his stepfather John L. Kundrath. His younger sister Elzada is here too. They are children of the Herbert and Jessie who were here in 1910. Spoke with a descendant, Philip Putman, Jr., who told me that Herbert worked for the railroad and was killed in an accident sometime after 1913. Jessie married John Kundrath. Sadly, no one knows anything about Herbert.  The whole family here in in Erie, Erie County in 1930 but Phillip and everyone are listed as Kundrath. He is married in Erie in 1940 married to Adele Mudge and has 3 kids.

 

LEVERET L. (LOVELAND) PUTMAN  Clinton County

He is 22 NY and is living with his wife Edith M. Groupe 22 PA, Leveret S. 3 4/12 PA and Mabel J. 1 4/12 PA. He is another son of Dewitt and Mary Ann Putman from here. Something will happen as in 1930 the two kids are living with Edith’s folks and brother and Leveret will be remarried and in Buffalo New York by 1930.

He is a son of Sidney Putnam and Mary Adelia Ward, and was born here March 22, 1875. They were married in Sanford, Warren County on December 18, 1901. He is a telegraph operator and will be around till he dies here July 19, 1970. Addie was born in Sanford July 15, 1882 and will die here July 19, 1970.

He is 68 PA and is living with his son-in-law Clyde M. Kinney. He was here with his grandmother in 1880 and then single in 1900 and on. Rand found a record that his folks were John Wilson Putnam and Jerusha Dix. He was here in 1910 and will die here September 16, 1927.

He is 59 PA and Katherine is 45 PA. He was born here, a son of William and Elizabeth. He must have just married, as he has always been living alone up until now.

She is Augusta Engle, widow (I guess) of Samuel Putnam. They were in Cleveland, Ohio in 1900 and in Lakewood, Ohio (both in Cuyahoga County) in 1910. Sam listed his birthplace as Canada in both returns. He is a son of Martin Mulford Putman and Elizabeth Jane Edison from Elgin East County Ontario. Dutch family originally from New York State. At any rate, it looks like 'Gusta' came home to mom. She is now 50 PA, Harwood E. 19 OH. Her mother Katherine Engle is 77 GER and her sister Emma Engle is 39 PA. Gusta and Emma are here in 1930.

 

CLARENCE PUTNAM  Meadville, Crawford County

He is now 52 PA, Bessie Engle his wife 46 PA, Roland 14 PA and Maurice 8 MD. He is a son of Warren Putnam and was born here in February 1868. He was here in 1900, but in 1910 they were briefly in Clarksburg, West Virginia. They are here in 1930.

He is indexed as Louis, but is Alfred and Philena's son. He is 47 PA and is living with his wife Sadie 39 OH and Glenn Vosburg (L) 19 PA and Cedil Vosburg (L) 15 PA. The last two are listed as lodgers, but are probably stepchildren as Sadie is a new wife. He has been married to a Jennie from PA in past reports.

He is 46 PA and is living with his wife Electa 45 PA, Clarence 15 PA, Floyd 13 PA, Ruth 1 2/12 PA. Also there are Jackson Lenhart (Son in law) 22 PA and his wife Elsie (Daughter) 17 PA. A son of Alfred and Philena, and was born here. He is widowed here in 1930. Everyone else is here and Floyd is married by then.

 

WAYNE F. (FERN) PUTNAM  Spartansburg, Crawford County

He is the son of Loren Putman and Blanche Sweet and is 20 PA and enumerated with Barney L. Richardson as a stepson. Looks like Blanche remarried. Loren has also remarried to Emma Connors. They are in Allegheny County now, and they will have a son John James here in 1911 and he will be widowed with John in Chautauqua County New York by 1920.

He is 32 PA and is living with his wife Pearl Duncan 29 PA and daughter Mary Ellen 9 PA. He is a son of Frederick and Katie from here. He was home in 1900 and 1910

 

SILAS H. (HOUSTON) PUTNAM  Harrisburg, Dauphin County

One of our Southern Putnams. He is 28 VA and the son of Charles Henry and Gertrude Putnam of Warren County Virginia. He was there in 1900 and 1910. He is living with his wife Ida B. James 28 VA. In 1910, they had a daughter Eva, who is missing now. There are two roomers with them, Clara Murphy 30 PA and Freda Murphy 10 PA. Now, Clara’s maiden name is Wakeman. Ida will die, and in 1929 he will marry Clara and they are here in the 1930 and back in Warren County Virginia in 1940.

He is 69 NY and is enumerated with Elbert E. Phillips as a boarder. He is a son of John Henry Putman and Caroline McGregor of Fulton County NY. He never married. Dutch family.

 

EDMUND H. PUTNAM  Parkside, Delaware County

He is 40 NY, Jessie M. 43 NY, Mayella K. 10 NJ, Edmund H. Jr. 8 NJ, Jean C. 6 NY. He is the son of Wilkins Knight and Ella Putnam from Richmond County in 1880. Don’t find in 1900 but they were in Union County New Jersey in 1910 and he and Jessie are in Ontario County New York in 1930 and 1940 and he is listed as Edmund then.

 

FRANK C. (CURTIS) PUTNAM  St. David, Delaware County

He is 50 NY, Minnie Davis his wife 50 NY, Catherine W. 21 MA, Robert H. Davis 77 NY and Mary B. Davis 75 NY (her folks). He is a son of James Orborne Putnam from Buffalo New York. He is a Congregational Minister. They were here in 1910 and in Woodstock Vermont in 1900.

 

HARRIETT PUTNAM  Swarthmore, Delaware County

She is 49 PA living with her daughter Iona 25 PA and son Allen L. 20 PA. Leon's widow Hattie Allen has been here with the kids since the 1890s. Allen is married here in 1930, and the only one still around.

 

EARL B. PUTNAM, JR.  Delaware County

He is 31 NY, Emily A. 28 MA (WV), Shirley G. 4 11/12 PA, Marie L. 2 10/12 PA and 3 servants. He is a son of Earl Bill Putnam and Grace Tower from Philadelphia. He was home there in 1900 and 1910. You can get the lineage there. Things get interesting by 1930. Everyone here is in Montgomery County then, but Earl has a new wife Bertha. The kids are listed with both parents so I don’t know what the story really is.

 

EMMET N. PUTNAM  Corry, Erie County

He is 69 PA, Lucinda W. Price is 72 PA. He is Valentine's son and was born in Warren County.

 

MRS. MARY PUTNAM  Corry, Erie County

She is 67 NY, her daughter Grace is 17 NY. Mary is enumerated with Frank Gleason as a sister in law. Mary Elizabeth Vantassel is the widow of Elbert Demetrious Putnam and was in Cattaraugus County New York in 1900 and 1910. Elbert was a son of Valentine Putnam and a brother of Emmet and William here in Corry. He was born December 23, 1853 in Farmington, Warren County and died October 16, 1918 here in Corry. Mary Elizabeth was born March 27, 1851 and died in here Corry October 28, 1927.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Corry, Erie County

He is listed as a boarder 49 PA. Another of Valentine’s sons. He too was in Cattaraugus County NY in 1900, and is now widowed.

 

FRED PUTMAN  Erie, Erie County

He is 41 NY, Bertha 42 PA, Avis 17 NY, Gertrude 12 NY, Clyde 10 NY and Laura 4 11/12 NY. They are newcomers from Chautauqua County New York. He is a son of Corydon Putnam and Sally Matthewson of Stockton. They were there through the 1910. Bertha is widowed here in 1930.

 

LOTTIE M. PUTNAM  Erie, Erie County

Charlotte Mahon is 46 PA and is living with her children Grace M. 20 PA, Fern V. 18 PA, Philip P. 16 PA, Helen M. 12 PA and Lucile D. 9 PA. She is Leroy's wife/widow from Warren County. She is still here in 1930 and still says she is married but Leroy isn’t around then either.

 

RALPH M. PUTMAN  Erie, Erie County

He is 22 PA and is listed as living at the Y.M.C.A. He is a son of William and Bessie Putman from Bradford, McKean County. He was home in 1900, and the family wasn't listed in the 1910 census. He is married and in Downers Grove, Illinois in 1930.

 

BURTON PUTNAM  North East Township, Erie County

He is now 70 NY and has a new wife Lillian Wattles 68 NY. He has been here since the 1870s. He will die here in 1928 and Lillian is widowed here in 1930. Lillian was born August 27, 1852 and will die in Cortland, New York September 27, 1938. She was previously married to Samuel Newell Holden.

He is 51 PA, Jennie W. Young 48 PA. He is a son of John and Fidelia from Warren County. He is 50 PA and is living alone. He is Alvanda's son. Looks as if his wife, Alice King, has died. He is widowed here in 1930 too.

A son of Curtin A. Putnam and Elizabeth Fry. He was born here and at home in 1910. He is now 34 PA, Martha Hanson his wife 36 PA, Harold 4 7/12 PA and Maxine 3 4/12 PA. Martha is widowed here with the kids in 1930.

William Leander's son. He is now 55 PA and is living alone. It appears that his wife, Elizabeth Fry, has died since the 1910 census. He is widowed here in 1930 too.

She is 78 PA and is enumerated with her son-in-law Roger P. Brisbee. She is Melvin's widow and has been around here forever

He is 29 NY (no it’s PA), Mary T. 24 PA and their son Francis R. is 2 3/12 PA. He is a son of Rutland Putnam and Jennie Straight originally from Crawford County and was here with them in 1910. He and Mary and more kids are in Crawford County by 1930.

 

HARRY PUTMAN  Lancaster, Lancaster County

He is 34 NY and is enumerated with John P. Nixdorf. He is working as a weaver in a silk mill. Harry James Putman is a son of James H. Putnam and Anna Moore. He is also listed with his wife Elsie Harris from England in Unadilla, Otsego County New York. He was born there, Dutch family. They are here with twin girls in 1930.

 

WILLIAM S. PUTNAM  New Castle, Lawrence County

He is 61 WI and is living with his wife Lillie or Lilla 55 WI, his daughter Pearl Hotchkiss 28 WI, her husband Walter H. 38 CT and son Edward B. 10 PA. They were here in 1910. William is a son of Alexander and Rosanna Putnam from Nova Scotia. He was born in Brown County Wisconsin. In 1900, this family was in Oshkosh, Winnebago County Wisconsin.

He is 43 PA and is living with his wife Louise Blakeslee 37 PA, Kent 7 PA, Harriet 4 PA and Bessie Clinch (a lodger) 37 CND. He is a son of A. B. Putnam from McKean County. In 1910 he was in Northampton County and single at the time. Louise is widowed here with the kids in 1930.

 

EDWARD PUTMAN  Hazelton, Luzerne County

He is 52 NY and is living alone. He was married to a Gertrude in Syracuse in 1910. Gertrude is there now and says she is widowed, but looks like divorce to me. He’ll be married here to Blanche Hickock in about a year and they are here in1930. He looks to be the son of Richard Putnam and Maria Phillips from Rome New York.

She is 67 PA and is enumerated with her nephew Samuel A. Snyder. Not sure who she is

 

EMMA B. PUTMAN  Muncy, Lycoming County

She is 68 PA living with her niece Cornelia L. McCarty. She's been here since the 1890s. She is an unwed daughter of Albert Brooks Putnam and Elizabeth Reynolds, and was born here. Her sister Mary had married William McCarthy.

 

JENNIE E. PUTNAM  Williamsport, Lycoming County

She is 74 PA and is living with her now widowed son Raymond L. 40 PA and his children Ruth B. 16 PA and Gerard L. 14 PA. Jennie Moore is John E. Putnam's widow, and has been here in Williamsport since the late 1800s and in Clearfield County before that. Raymond was married in Allegheny County in 1910. Dutch folks.

He is 78 NY and is living with his wife Alice (called herself Margaret A. in 1910) 70 PA. He is a son of John and Maria. Dutch family. They were here in 1900 and 1910, and Tioga County earlier.

 

FRED PUTNAM  Bradford, McKean County

He is 50 NY, Maude Ward 43 NY and Laura Davis (a niece) is 16 NY. They were here in 1900 and 1910, and Maude is widowed here in 1930.

 

ALONZO PUTMAN  McKean County

He is 34 CND, Edith Bennett 33 PA, Kenneth 13 PA, Laurence 11 PA and Gladys 5 PA. His brother Clarence 40 CND is with them. Alonzo is indexed this time as Olanzo. The family was in Clinton County in 1910 and Potter County in 1900. Look back at that listing to see how he fits in. They are in Cincinnati by 1930.

She is 81 GER and is living with Thersa M. Snort, housekeeper, 39 PA. Atwood's widow is still here. She is the second wife of Ivy Atwood from Rumford, Maine. They were all here in 1880 and she was widowed here since the 1890s. Ivy Atwood was a son of Samuel Putnam and his second wife Elizabeth Cobb of Rumford, Oxford County Maine.

 

W. K. (WILLIAM KIRK) PUTMAN  Greenville, Mercer County

He is 34 PA and is living with his wife Bertha Stanley 34 PA and son Wilbur 9 PA. He is a son of Wilbur and Effie Putnam from Summit, Crawford County. The son Wilbur was with his first wife Addie (last name unknown) who was with him in Erie County in 1910. He married Bertha in Wheeling, West Virginia March 20, 1916. They are here in 1930 too. New England line.

He was here in 1910. He is now 33 US (PA in 1910). He has a new wife Etta 39 PA and her son from a prior marriage, Clarence Allen 11 PA. He is in Macon, Michigan in 1930 with yet another wife Mabel.

 

MARY E. PUTMAN  Sunbury, Northumberland County

She is 64 PA and is living with her son Bright S. 31 PA, granddaughter Thelma F. 10 PA, grandson Joseph W. Shiple 5 PA, stepson Joseph M. Reedy 24 PA, her daughter Irene 22 PA and granddaughter Lois G. 10/12 PA. She is Mary Bright, widow of Frank M. Putman.

He is 38 PA, Bertha (Mary B. in 1910) 37 PA, Harry 17 PA and Francis 11 PA. Frank's son was born here.

 

ALFRED PUTMAN  Philadelphia, Philadelphia County

He is 24 NY, Nancy Wynne Cook, his wife, 22 PA and young Alfred is 7/12 PA. There are two domestics there as well. He is a son of Earl Bill Putman and Grace Tower from here. He was shown at home here in 1900. His folks are listed shortly. They are in Montgomery County just outside the city in 1930. They’ll also have 4 servants by then.

 

ANNA E. PUTNAM  Philadelphia, Philadelphia County

She is 1 7/12 PA and listed as a grand daughter of William E. Huber. They are all in Gloucester, New Jersey in 1930 and 1940. Rand Putnam, bless his heart, figured this all out. Anna is a daughter of Paul C. Putnam and Sara Catherine Taylor. She was born here and her mom died in 1918 probably in her childbirth. Paul is a son of James Monroe Putman and Sarah Louise Bostick from Cherokee County South Carolina. Paul was at home there in 1900. Southern Putman folk.

He is 50 ENG, Emma 12 PA, James 10 PA, and Margaret 8 PA. It looks as if he was here and married in 1910, but I do not find him in the index for that year.

 

EARL B. (BILL) PUTNAM  Philadelphia, Philadelphia County

He is 64 NY, Grace W. Tower 60 PA, Amelia T. 36 NY. His son Alfred is listed above. He is a son of George Putnam and Sarah M. Bill of Waterville, New York, and was born there December 31, 1855. He graduated from Harvard in 1879, and practiced law in Rochester, NY until 1895 when he came here to Philly. This line goes back Earl > George > Nathaniel > Micah > Nathan > Isaac > Edward > Thomas > John Putnam of Massachusetts.

 

FREDRICK M. PUTMAN  Philadelphia, Philadelphia County

He is 79 MA and living with his wife Lydia Currier 72 MA. He is a son of James Augustus Putnam (number 2236) of Danvers, Massachusetts. He was born there April 26, 1841, and married Lydia G. Currier there. They moved here in the 1880s. He is now retired.

She is 21 TN and is enumerated with her mother Elizabeth Smith. Also there is her son Edward 5 TN. I have no idea who her husband was.

He is 19 PA and is enumerated with his stepfather Edward H. Church and his mother Louisa. He is a son of William Putnam and Louisa Wedder. He was here with his re-married mother Louisa in 1910 too. His dad William is still by himself here in Philadelphia and is listed below. That’ll give you the line. His folks divorced pretty much right after he was born I guess, and he was with his mother and her folks here in 1910 and will be married to Ruth King here in 1930 and 1940.

He is 59 NJ, his wife Mary E. 59 NJ and daughter Hattie E. 33 NJ. He is a son of John Davis Putnam Junior and Sarah Elizabeth Totten. Horace Raymond Putnam was born in Warren County New Jersey and then lived most of his life in Newark, Essex County New Jersey. Mary will be widowed and Hattie will be divorced and they are in Neptune, New Jersey in 1930.

He and Rebecca are Russian Jews who immigrated into the Country in 1904. Rose is also at a school in Baltimore now as well.

He is 47 PA and is a boarder enumerated with Sara Richards. He was here in town back in 1900 married to Louisa Wedder. They were divorced by 1910 and she has remarried. Their son George is listed earlier with his mom and stepfather. He is a son of George Washington Putnam and Harriet Caldwell Stuart/Stewart and was with the family in Fairview, Butler County Pennsylvania in 1880. His dad is a son of Moses Putnam and Mary Beaton from Nova Scotia, and was born in Philadelphia. They were in Washington County, Maryland in 1900 and 1910, and Harriet is widowed there now in 1920. He is 32 PA, Lottie 23 PA, Marie 6 PA, Rose Surdam, mother in law, 61 NY. He is a son of John and Gertrude and was born here. Dutch family. Charlotte Surdam is his second wife. His first wife, Emma, has married Walter Hancock and the daughters Eva and Grace are with that family, also here in Potter County. He will be in Montour County with yet another wife, May, in 1930. Edwin will marry Ada Corey and then be with his fourth wife May here in 1930.

 

EVA & GLADICE PUTMAN  Potter County

Eva is 14 PA and her sister Gladys or Grace is 11 PA. They are enumerated with Walter Hancock, her stepfather. Her mother, Emma, has divorced her first husband Edwin Putman and married Walter. Emma and Eva's sister Grace are also here. Edwin (listed above) has a new wife now.

William is a son of William Michael and Catherine (Nicholson) Putman. Catherine was previously married to Clarence Trout who died in a train wreck. They are all here in 1930.German family.

He is 52 NY (should be PA) and is living with his wife Anna Hunt 41 PA and their children Robert M. 19 PA, Carlton 13 PA, Walter 8 PA, Winton 8 PA, Ethel D. 23 PA. Theodore Nelson Putnam is a son of Francis Emery Putnam from Wayne County. They are here in 1930, and he will die here in 1935, and Anna in 1962 back in Broome County New York where she was from.

 

ABRAHAM PUTNAM  Blossburg, Tioga County

He is now 55 PA, Addie 49 PA. He is a son of Jerome Henry Junior and Elizabeth Putnam (Massachusetts folks). He was born here and was still at home with his father in 1910. He has not been married before, so I guess Addie is a new bride for him. Unless she is his sister Jessie.

 

WILLIAM PUTMAN  Blossburg, Tioga County

He is 55 PA and is living with his wife Mae Coolie 35 PA and their children Grace 13 PA, Glenn 11 PA, Jerome 9 PA, Florence 8 PA, Arthur 6 PA and Charles 3 2/12 PA. He is Jerome's son and has always been here. Mary will be widowed in Cortland New York in 1930. Glen and Charles are with her, and Jerome is married in Hudson then. I don’t know about Arthur or Florence as they are not there in 1930.

 

SAMUEL O. PUTNAM  Covington, Tioga County

He is 64 PA and is living with his wife Mary F. 65 PA. Thomas Burnside Putnam's son has been here all his life.

He is 41 PA, Agnes Brownlee Logan 37 PA, Chester 11 PA, William 9 PA, Isabelle 8 PA, Mark 7 PA, Harry 3 PA and Walter 1 PA. Chester's son was born right here and looks like he'll be here forever. They are here in 1930.

He is 36 PA, Isabella Logan 34 PA, Leon 15 PA and Edith 8 PA and three boarders. Another of Chester's sons. They are all in Pontiac Michigan by 1930.

 

GEORGE E. PUTMAN  Delmar, Tioga County

He is 76 PA, Mary 74 PA and Florence M. Hall, granddaughter 16 PA. He was born here. Part of the Dutch family from New York State, son of John and Maria.

He is 71 PA, Alice A. 65 PA. Their son John L. 29 PA, his wife Grace J. 21 PA and daughter Edna R. 2 PA. Another Dutch family. He is a son of John and Emeline Putman, and was born here. Alice is widowed here in 1930.

He is 70 PA and is living with his wife Emma J. 63 PA and son Alan D. 25 PA. Once again, he is indexed as Deroy, but he is Leroy son of John and Emeline, and was born here. Dutch family.

 

JAMES  H. PUTNAM, JR.  Lawrenceville, Tioga County

He is 40 PA and is living with his wife Margaret 36 SCT and son Alonzo 8 PA. He was with his folks in 1900 and didn't show up anywhere in 1910

He is 63 NY and is living with his second wife Bertha Moore 44 NY. They have been here since the 1870s and will be in 1930. He is a son of Elijah Putnam and Harriet Hotchkiss from Wayne, Steuben County New York. He was married to Mary Emma Taylor here in 1880 and 1900. Dutch folks from New York then New Jersey. Been here since 1880 and will be here in 1920 and 1930.

He is 55 PA and living with his wife Margaret 49 PA. Erastus son was born in Bradford County.

 

PHILIP PUTMAN  Wellsboro, Tioga County

He is 27 PA and is living with his father-in-law Charles Spaulding. Also there are his wife Neva (Spaulding) 24 PA and their daughter Doris Putman 1 7/12 PA. He is a son of Chester and Sarah from this county. Dutch folks, all born here.

 

BERTHA PUTNAM  Wellsboro, Tioga County

She is Bertha Burgin, Viall's widow (his second wife). She is now 63 SWT, Nadine 31 PA, Allen 26 PA and Allen's wife Catherine 20 NY. Viall's family was listed in 1900, but I don't find them in the 1910 index.

 

WILLIAM L. PUTMAN  Westfield, Tioga County

He is 50 PA and is enumerated as a boarder with Ducia Louchs. He was here in 1910. His wife Rosa must have died since then.

 

WALTER PUTMAN  Tioga County

He is 35 PA (Hired Man) and is enumerated with Darwin R. Woodstock. He was here in 1910. He is a son of Henry Putman from Potter County.

 

CORA L. PUTNAM  Oil City, Venango County

She is 44 PA living with her son Archie M. 17 PA. She was in Crawford County in 1900, and then here in 1910 with her husband, Harry O. Putnam.  In 1930 Cora admits she is divorced. I have no idea where Harry is now. He was a son of Edwin and Mary from Crawford County.

 

EARL N. (NOAH) PUTNAM  Oil City, Venango County

He is 26 PA, Frances Neva Brown his wife 25 PA, Margaret 3 2/12 PA. He is Edwin's son from Crawford County. They are back in Crawford County by 1930.

 

ROSS L. PUTNAM  Oil City, Venango County

He is 41 PA and is living with his wife Leona 40 PA, Leroy 19 PA and Chester 15 PA. He is a son of Edwin and Mary from Crawford County. Ross was here in Oil City in 1910 as well. He will have a new wife Etta Sanford, and they are in Erie County in 1930.

 

LLOYD PUTMAN  Polk, Venango County

He is 22 PA and is listed as an inmate at State Institute for Feeble Minded of Western PA. He was listed here as well in 1910. The age in this or the last report was off. He is a son of Lucius and Jennie Putnam from Crawford County. He was shown at home in 1900 as born in July 1897 and then ‘gone’ in 1910. Probably was in the Institute before he shows in the 1910 census.

 

MONROE L. PUTNAM  Venango County

He is 35 PA and is living with his wife Ruth M. 31 PA and their sons Gerald H. 12 PA, Harold A. 10 PA, Glenn M. 8 PA and Carl E. 3 PA. He was born here, a son of Edwin and Mary Putnam. They are over in Erie County New York in 1930.

 

ADELBERT O. (ORVILLE) PUTMAN  Farmington, Warren County

He is 69 PA, Inez E. Wright 65 PA. Their son, Clair Arthur 40 PA and Clair's son Fred P. (Peavy) 14 PA. Clair was home in 1900, and married in Erie County in 1910. I have no idea what happened to Clair's wife Alice Peavy since 1910. The son Fred was born May 5, 1905 and will die here in Pennsylvania in July 1982.

 

HERBERT PUTNAM  Warren, Warren County

He is 48 PA, wife Lola 33 PA, Fern 7 PA and Herbert Jr. 1 11/12 PA. Lola is his second wife. He was married here in 1900 and widowed in 1910 and living with his mother and his two daughters. The daughters are married off now.

 

HOMER M. (MANLEY) PUTNAM  Warren, Warren County

He is 55 PA, his wife Bella A. Chase is 51 PA, Harold 26 PA and Homer M. Jr. 24 PA. Homer Manley is a son of Theodore and Abigail. They are here in 1930. He is a vice president of the bank then.

 

LYNN PUTNAM  Warren, Warren County

He is 16 PA and is living with his grandfather Neil Patterson. He was listed here in 1910 as well, and will be in 1930. He is a son of Glen Putnam and the following Mary Jane Patterson.

 

MARY J. PUTNAM  Warren, Warren County

She is 39 NY and is living with her sons Howard D. 21 PA, Lloyd 24 PA and her uncle Duncan Peterson 70 SCT. Mary Jane Patterson is the widow of Glen Joseph Putnam. She was widowed here in 1910 and with him in McKean County in 1900. She will marry Erhart M. Schwing here soon and be with him in 1930 and till she dies in 1936. In looking at this census entry, you’ll see Erhart is married now and lives two houses away from Mary Jane.

 

CHARLES A. (ALBERT) PUTNAM  Warren County

William and Polly's son is now 35 PA, Bertha Mae Cornell 33 PA, Gertrude M. 13 PA, Pauline L. 10 PA, Howard R. 7 PA, Helen Louise 6 PA, Henry P. 3 4/12 PA and Everett D. 1 5/12 PA. Born here.

 

FRED P. PUTMAN  Warren County

He is 14 PA and is enumerated with his grandfather Adelbert O. Putman. His father Clair is there as well, don't know what happened to mom.

 

GRANT PUTNAN  Warren County

He is 55 PA living with his wife Mary McCain 57 PA and a boarder Elmer Dunn 58 NY. Perry and Margaret's son has been right here since the day he was born

 

LIMA (LYMAN) A. PUTNAM  Warren County

He is 48 IL and is living with his second wife Alice Ramsdel 46 NY and their children Leslie 24 NY, Dewey 21 PA and Marie (actually a son Merle) 19 NY. He is Hiram and Elizabeth’s son, and was born while they were in Bureau County Illinois. Alice was previously married to a Depledge man and the two oldest kids are hers. They were here in 1910 and will be in 1930 and 1940.

 

LON PUTMAN  Warren County

He is 35 CND and is listed as a patient at Warren State Hospital for the Insane. It is possible that this is a dual listing for Alonzo of McKean County. I am not at all certain

 

WILLIAM A. PUTMAN  Warren County

He is 64 PA and living with his Polly L. 62 PA and Merle 22 PA. Alfred's son. Been here forever. Merle will be married to a Helen and be in Buffalo, New York in 1930.

 

FRANK PUTMAN  Canonsburg, Washington County

He is 40 PA, Jennie 37 PA, John 17 PA. He would be the son of Frank Putnam and Mary Bright of Northumberland County. He was at home in 1880. In 1900 he was married to an Elsa the same age as he, so it appears Jennie is a second wife. I do not find this family in 1910.

 

NORMAN W. PUTNUM  Wayne County

He is 44 PA and is living with his wife Nancy 38 NY, John 21 NY, Alberta 19 OH and George 2/12 PA. He is a son of Francis Emery and Theodosia Putnam, and was born here. The children, John and Alberta were not listed here in 1910, and it actually looks as if John was a son, Alberta his wife and George their child.  In 1900, Norman was at home and appeared to be single. In 1910, he was married to Nancy, but John (then 11 NY) was living in Susquehanna County with his grand-father William Holford also from New York. I have no idea on this story, but I guess Norman was back home in 1900, Nancy and then the very young John were back in New York State with her folks. John, in fact, may have been born prior to a marriage and was sort of an embarrassment at the time. Just an old rumor monger, I guess. Really have no idea.

 

CHARLES E. (EDWARD) PUTMAN  Irwin, Westmoreland County

He is 41 PA and living with his sister and her husband Joseph Baskus. He is Stewart's son, German family. He was with his wife Angie in Crawford County in 1910. She is still back there living alone now. Maybe Charles is separated or divorced, maybe just visiting. I do not know. Don’t find in 1930, but he will die Johnstown, Cambria County April 17, 1937.
