WILLIAM H. (HENRY) PUTNAM  Cumberland, Barron County

He is 29 MI NY and a station agent for the railroad. His wife Frances E. Currie is 29 WI CAN. They have Daniel C. 19 WI and Ethel M. and adopted daughter 8 WI. He is a son of Abram and Mary Putman as shown at home in 1880 in Leslie, Ingham County, Michigan. They were in Jackson County in 1900. They are here in 1910 and in Duluth, Minnesota in 1920 and 1930.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Dovre, Barron County

He is 20 WI WI NY and a laborer on the Myers farm. He was here in 1900 with his mother Clara. No idea as to his dad though. He will be with his mom in Chippewa County in 1910

 

MARY PUTMAN  Allouez, Brown County

She is 40 WI and married. She is Mary Gaw and was married to Prescott Putnam in De Pere in 1900. Divorced I guess as he married Caroline Wright in 1901 and they are there now and in 1910 and Carrie is widowed by 1920.

 

MARION PUTMAN  Allouez, Brown County

She is 18 WI and boarding. Don’t find her in 1900 or 1910. She’s not part of Prescott and Mary’s family.

 

ANTON PUTMAN De Pere, Brown County

He is 22 WI. His wife Jennie (Jane Thomas) 21 WI and their son Thomas 1 WI. He is a son of Antone Puttemanns and Margaret Osterman. The family was from Belgium and the grandfather Henry Puttemanns came over here about 1856. He was overlooked in 1900, but they are here in 1910 and will be till he dies in 1953, Jane in 1977.

 

LESLIE PUTMAN  De Pere, Brown County

He is 30 WI NOVA SCOTIA and his wife Molly Johnson is 30 WI DENMARK. They have Merlin 5 WI and Priscilla 1 WI. His widowed father Alexander 78 NOVA SCOTIA Is still with them as he was in 1900. His mother Rosanna died in the 1890s. Leslie married Molly here December 21, 1898. They are here through 1930 and longer. New England family originally.

 

P. (PRESCOTT) N. PUTMAN  De Pere, Brown County

He is 50 NOVA SCOTIA and his wife Caroline Wright 50 WI. Carrie is his second wife, they were married here in 1901. His first wife Mary Gaw is listed earlier in Allouz. He is a son of Alexander and Rosanna Putnam from here and Nova Scotia before that.

 

DUTON PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is listed as 23 WI, his wife Jennie 21 WI. They have a son Thomas 1 WI. They live with her folks. This is another mis-indexed entry and I can’t see it.

 

PAULINE PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

She is about 55 SWITZ and widowed. Her daughter Annie 30 WI and her brother Edward Weismiller 33 WI are here as well. Based on ages Edward here was Oscar in 1900. She had married A. G. Putnam in Green County on November 24, 1886, and he has since died. He was Austin Gilman Putnam a son of Ebenezer Putnam (1503) and Tryphena Bassett from Holden, Massachusetts. Austin was single in Monroe Green County Wisconsin in 1880. He had married Sarah Annie McKay back in Worcester, Massachusetts and she died in Holden in 1854. Austin was in New York City in 1870 then here in 1880. Pauline is Sophie Pauline Ruegger and she first married Emanuel Weissmiller on 27 Oct 1870. Oscar Emmet Weissmiller was born 19 Aug 1873. She is here in 1900 through 1930. She’ll be here in 1930 at age 80 and Annie will still be here then too.

 

THOMAS (ANTONE) PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is Antone Puttemanns 50 WI and his wife Margaret Ostermann is 43 WI. They have Tony (Anton) 22 WI, Tillie 17 WI and Mammie 9 WI. He is indexed as Thomas again in 1910 and then Antone in 1920. Thomas must be a middle name or he pronounced it as ‘Ton. . A descendant says his father was Henry Puttemanns, who brought his family to Wisconsin in about 1858. The have been spelled as Pittmann before. From Belgium originally.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Preble, Brown County

He is 48 NY NY and divorced. He has his three sons with him. Claude 19 WI, Elmer 14 WI and Frank 10 WI. In 1900 he was in Green Bay with his wife Mary and more kids. I don’t find any of them in 1910, but Mary is in Milwaukee in 1920. He is a son of George and Nancy who are still back in Outagamie County. New York Dutch family.

 

DAPHINE PUTMAN  Mondovi, Buffalo County

She is 24 WI single and a teacher. She is a daughter of Wilton Putnam and Dora Park from Waukesha County. She was home with his widowed mother in 1900 and will be married to Henry Otjen and with her in Milwaukee in 1910 and 1920.

 

CLARA PUTNAM  Anson, Chippewa County

She is 39 WI NY and now widowed. She has Frank 20 WI, Arthur 15 WI, Hester 12 WI and Jay a son 8 WI. They were in Barron County in 1900. She was widowed then, and no clue to the dad except he was from Vermont. Probably connected to the family of John Putnam from Vermont and in Chippewa County in 1880. Clara is here with her son Frank in 1910. Arthur is nearby and Hester married by then. In 1920 Clara is with her other son John in Price County.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Anson, Chippewa County

He is 18 WI WI and working on the Cameron farm. He is a son of Clara Putnam here in town. He will marry a girl named Rose in 1909 and they are in Price County in 1910. They are there in 1920 and Clara is with them. Then John and Rose and their kids are all in Michigan by 1930.

 

JOHN B. (BROWN) PUTNAM  Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County

He is 58 WI VT and an insurance Agent. His wife of 35 years Julia Adeline Wells is 56 CAN and they have Archie L. 20 WI, Emmet 30 WI and his wife Alice Keturah Whitman 23 CAN. Emmett and Katurah are also listed in a boarding house here in town. John was born here, a son of William Barron Putnam and Esther Brown from Vermont before that. They are here in 1910. He will die here August 15, 1919, and Addie will be here in 1920.

 

WILLIAM PUTMAN  Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County

He is 52 NY NY and a farm laborer. His wife Georgia is 44 WI. He is a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Emhoff from Jefferson County, NY and then in Sparta, Monroe County, WI. Dutch family. He will be here till he dies in 1933.

 

SAMANTHA PUTNAM  Eagle Point, Chippewa County

She is 85 NY VT CT and lives with a Neitzel family. She is an unwed daughter of Samuel Putnam (1898) and Zenia Green of Clayton, Jefferson County, NY. She was home in 1860. She was here in 1900 living with her sister Sarah Dunston. She will die here December 27, 1906, hopefully after a nice Christmas.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Dorchester, Clark County

He is 32 WI NY IL and his wife Anna Metzger is 30 WI GER. He is an engineer. He is a son of Cyrus Putnam and Harriet Sanderson from Green County. He and Annie were here in Mayville, Clark County in 1900 and 1910. They are in Taylor County in 1920.

 

GUY PUTMAN  Loyal, Clark County

He is 22 IL, his sister Iva 19 WI, Flora 16 WI and Silas listed as a girl is 14 WI. Actually they were all born in Illinois. They live with their mother Ella 41 IL IRE and her husband William Meeks 46 IL. They were all in Rockton, Winnebago County Illinois in 1900. Their mother is Ella Flynn Putnam who married Omer Putnam there on September 28, 1881. He died in 1898 or 1899, and she just remarried William Meeks in 1900. They are here in Loyal, Clark County Wisconsin in 1910 and 1920. Guy will be in Kansas City Missouri single in 1910 and married there in 1920 and 1930.

 

ERNEST W. (WESLEY) PUTMAN  Mentor, Clark County

He is 30 WI NY WI, Clara Maude Bangle, his wife is 24 WI CAN WI, Helen 5 WI, Marie 2 WI, Ernest 3/12 WI. He lives next to his folks John Putman and Amanda Nokes. Been here all his life.

 

JOHN S. PUTMAN  Mentor, Clark County

He is 54 NY NY and now an invalid. His wife Amanda Paulina Nokes is 50 NY NY and at home are Russell H. 24 WI NY and Lila M. 15 WI NY. John Putman is a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Emhoff from Jefferson County New York and then in Sparta, Monroe County Wisconsin. Dutch family.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Fall River, Columbia County

He is 32 WI, his brother Ezra 45 WI and his mother Eliza (listed wrongly as Ida) is 60 WI. Mom was widowed in Dodge County with the kids in 1860 and 1870 and here since. They are around in 1910, and the kids through 1930.

 

CHARLEY PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 25 IL NY single and boarding. He is a son of William and Catherine Putnam. He was 9 months old in 1880 with them in Plano, Kendall County Illinois. New York Dutch Family.

 

CLARK M. (MILTON) PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 36 NY NY NY. An insurance agent. Grace Rogers, his wife of 7 years, is 25 WI and they have Grace 5 WI. They were here in 1900. He is the son of Alfred Putnam and Mary Ackerman. He was with them in Eaton County, Michigan in 1870 and here in Sheboygan in 1880. They are here in 1905 through 1920.

 

ROBERT H. PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is a lineman 29 WI MA. His wife Dorothy C. Pierson is 29 WI DEN. They have Robert J. 7 WI. He is a son of Alexander and Rosanna Putnam from De Pere, Brown County. Dorothy was there with Robert in 1900. They are all here through 1920. Young Robert is married by 1930.

 

RUTH PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

She is 46 WI VA OH and her daughter Mary is 20 ND. She has a nephew Victor Frame 4 WI. In 1910 she calls him an adopted son, and then a nephew again in 1920. Ruth Calloway was married to George Henry Putnam here through 1900. He was a son of George W. Putnam and Martha Rebecca Brewer, and was in Richland County in 1880. He and Ruth were married in Crawford County December 25, 1883. Ruth says she is married, but from here on she is on her own so I assume they split up. She is here through 1920.

 

HARPER PUTMAN  Oregon, Dane County

He is now 58 NY NY NY, and Emma Andrews Smith 58 NY and their son Arthur 14 WI. They have been here married for 35 years now. He is a son of John and Catherine Putnam from here in Oregon. He’s been here since he was 3 years old. They are here in 1910 and Emma is widowed here by 1920.

 

ANNA J. (JOHANNA) PUTMAN  Gibraltar, Door County

She is 29 WI, Ensor 9 WI and Gladys 6 WI. Anna Johanna Nelson is the widow of Orson Andrew Putman. They were married September 6, 1893. Orson died here July 6, 1899 leaving her widowed. She had these kids with her in 1900. She still lives with her folks Carl 66 NORWAY and Maria 72 NOR Nelson. Ensor is married here in 1920. Guess Annie got remarried by then too.

 

ALONZO S. (SYLVESTER) PUTNAM  Sturgeon Bay, Door County

He is 41 IL UN UN, Lucretia Catherine Johnson, his wife of 17 years, is 36 CAN, Hubert A. 16 WI, Phyllis M. 5 WI, Edgar D. 2 WI. He is a liveryman and has a domestic servant. He is a son of John and Sarah Putman and was with them here in 1880. He was born back in Aurora, Kane County Illinois February 5, 1864. He and Lucretia were married here March 29, 1887 and here in the 1900 census. They are here in 1910. He will die May 22, 1917, and Lucretia will be widowed in Chicago, Illinois in 1920 living with her son Hubert and his wife Ella.

 

CHARLES W. PUTNAM  Superior, Douglas County

He is 36 WI WI and a chief clerk in the Railroad office. His wife Clara Brown 40 WI and they have Isla 11 WI, Emmett O. 8 WI and Ina M. 5 WI. They also have a second listing with the ages a couple of years older. He is a son of John B. and Addie Putnam, and was at home with them in Auburn, Chippewa County in 1880. He married Clara here on October 11, 1892. They are here still in 1910, and then in Colusa County California by 1920 through 1930 and I am sure longer.

 

HENRY C. (CLEVELAND)  PUTMAN  Eau Claire, Eau Claire County

He is 73 NY NY NY and his wife Jane Balcom is 72 NY NY NY. He has three servants living with him. He is a son of Hamilton Putman and Jeanette Cleveland from Cortland, Cortland County, New York. He has been here since the 1850s. He will be widowed here in 1910 and gone by 1920.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  Wingville, Grant County

He is 64 CAN CAN NY and works in a creamery. His wife Lydia Dulcia Wheeler is 57 WI and their son James is 12 WI. He is a son of William Putnam and Rachel Scott and was born in Prince Edward County Canada January 15, 1841. They were in Fennimore, Grant County in 1900 and are here in 1910. New England family originally, and the name should be spelled Putnam.

 

SARAH C. PUTNAM  Albany, Green County

She is 69 OH widowed as she has been. She was married to Hiram Putnam through 1880. She is here in 1910. She married Hiram back in Licking County, Ohio before the whole gang moved up here. Hiram was a son of John Jacob Putman and Magdalena Fleck. Been here since the 1840s. German family from Hampshire County Virginia, and then Licking County Ohio where he was born.

 

HENRY C. (CLAY) PUTNAM  Brodhead, Green County

He is listed with no age WI NY. He is president of a bank. He has Ida Eugene with him as he did in 1900. She is a servant and was 26 then and is 26 now. Oh well. He is a son of John Jacob Putman and Magdalena Fleck. Been here since the 1840s. German family from Hampshire County, Virginia and then Licking County, Ohio where he was born. Been here for ages.

 

MARIETTE PUTNAM  Brodhead, Green County

She is 69 NH NH. She says she is married but lives alone. Can’t find her earlier anywhere.

 

ALLEN PUTMAN  Brooklyn, Green County

He is listed in Brooklyn, Green County but was in Rock County in 1900 and will be in 1910, so this may be a bad index. He is 42 WI, his wife Cora Calvert is 39 WI and Raymond 13 WI, Bernard 12 WI and Louis 3 WI. He was here in 1900 and they are all here in 1910. He is a son of Lafayette and Melissa Putman and was at home with them in Sheboygan County in 1870.

 

GERTRUDE PUTMAN  Berlin, Green Lake County

She is 42 WI. She is boarding and says she is widowed. She was here in 1900 and will be in 1910 and says she is divorced then. Not sure as to her ex-husband. He might be Selim’s son Edwin who is missing in this census. Edwin will be back with his folks in 1910 though.

 

E. (EDSON) A. PUTNAM  Oakfield, Fond du Lac County

He is 72 VT and retired. His wife Gertrude E. Towne is 58 OH. He’s been here since the 1850s. Gertrude is his second wife. They were married here July 4, 1890. He’s Leander and Martha’s son from Washington County, Vermont. They are here in 1910.

 

CLAUDE PUTNAM  Waupun, Fond du Lac County

24 WI NY single and a clerk in a hardware store. He was single in Dane County in 1900 and will be here in 1910. He will be married here by 1920. He is a son of Isaac Harper Putnam and Emma Smith from Oregon, Dane County.

 

HENRY PUTMAN  Dodgeville, Iowa County

He is about 43 CT MA ENG, single and boarding. Also can’t find him in Connecticut in 1870.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Argyle, Lafayette County

 He is 40 WI ENG, his wife Anna C. Reed 40 WI and they have Jimmie 12 WI, Jennie 10 WI, Charles 7 WI, William 5 WI and Glenn 2 WI. He is a son of Theron and Elizabeth Putnam. He was at home with them here in 1880 and married here in 1900. They are here in 1910 and 1920. Dutch family from New York State.

 

FANNY PUTMAN  Darlington, Lafayette County

She is 38 WI and widowed. She has Edna 13 WI, Roy 6 WI and Merle 3 WI. Fannie Louise Stott is the widow of William Putnam. He was a son of Theron and Elizabeth Putnam. He was home with them here in 1870 and 1880. They were here in 1900. Her folks John and Sarah Stott live next door or probably she is in their house. She is still widowed here with her mom in 1910 and 1920.

 

THERON PUTNAM  Fayette, Lafayette County

He is now 72 NY NY. His wife Elizabeth Hem is 67 WI TN. They were here since 1860. He’s a son of Lewis and Abigail Putman from Cayuga County, New York. Lewis was a son of Jacob Putman and Sarah Osterhoudt from Montgomery County NewYork. Dutch Family.

 

JOSEPH PUTNAM  Antigo, Langdale County

He is 77 NY NY. His wife Angie M. is 61 MA and her daughter Elenor Rounds is 26 MA and single. Angie is widowed here in 1910 with Eleanor. Anyway, he was single here in 1900 and that was the first time I have seen him in ages. He is son of William Witt Putnam and Philena Buck of Bethel, Windsor County, Vermont. His first wife Sophia has died in the late 1800s. Angie was also married before to a Rounds fella.

 

ISRAEL PUTNAM  Merrill, Lincoln County

He is 37 WI VT and a mail carrier. His wife Vernetta M. is 35 WI and they have James Leslie 11 WI. He is a son of George Washington Putnam and Martha Rebecca Brewer. The family was in Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont in 1850 and then here in Dane County by 1860. Israel was at home in Richland County in 1880, and married there in 1900. They are here now through 1930 at least.

 

MAURICE PUTMAN  Amberg, Marinette County

He is listed as 2 WI a grandson of Nelson P. Chase 55 MA and Anna Chase 51 NOR. Also here is their daughter Leora Archie 34 WI and her husband George S. Archie. Maurice’s mother Leora Chase married Wilbur Putman January 22, 1901 and then they were divorced and she just married George S. Archie. The son Maurice was born July 25, 1902 and died Monday October 5, 1962. He married Catherine Schreiner September 15, 1926 in Wausau, Wisconsin. Catherine was born in Germany September 15, 1903 and died in Wausau Sunday September 29, 1996 at age 93. He was born as Putman but later changed his last name to Archie.

 

ALFRED J. PUTNAM  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is a shoemaker 24 WI WI and his wife Annie Ohl is 22 WI GER. They have Helen 6/12 WI. He is a son of Elbert and Agnes Putman. He was at home with them in Milwaukee in 1900. He married Anna here March 28, 1903. His mother Agnes and brother Warren are here in Milwaukee too. They are in Jefferson County in 1910. They are in Milwaukee in 1920 and 1930.

 

GEORGE B. PUTMAN  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 66 NH NH and boarding. He is an Agent for something. He looks like George Putnam, son of George Putnam and Elizabeth Perkins of Charlestown, NH. He and his wife Emily Alice Jackson were in Pottawattamie County Iowa in 1900.

 

HERBERT E. (EUGENE) PUTNAM  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 57 WI NY MA and his brand new wife Mollie Claymier 32 WI GER. They were married here May 14, 1903. They are here in 1910 and 1920 too. He is a son of Aaron and Maria Putnam from New York. He was born in Racine, Racine County. He was married to Ida here in 1880, and widowed in 1900. He works for the railroad, as he has for many years.

 

PAUL PUTMAN  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 24 GER GER and says he is married but lives alone. He did marry Etta Lathrop. Also found the marriage record of December 24, 1904 here in Milwaukee. They are here in 1910 and 1920.

 

WARREN PUTMAN  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 19 WI WI and is a telegraph operator. His widowed mother Agnes Roeitzsch 47 GER and sister Lillian 7 WI are with him. He was here with his folks Elbert and Agnes Putnam in 1900. He is single here in 1910 and married by 1920. Now, Agnes will die here on February 18, 1910. But Elbert is in Cook County Illinois now and through 1920 and will die there in 1929. So they aren’t widowed, just split up or got divorced or something. Hmmm.

 

KIRK M. PUTNAM  Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County

He is 35 KS VT MA and his wife Martha M. Ellis is 35 WI. They have been married 10 years and have Ellis L. 9 WI, Julia 172 WI, Ruth A. 2 WI. Martha’s sisters Ruth Ellis 21 SD and Evelyn Ellis 17 MI are with them. He is a son of Robert W. and Julia Putnam and was born in Leavenworth, Kansas and has been here since the 1880s. He is a store manager. They are in Minneapolis by 1920 and his widowed mother Julia will be with them.

 

WINTHROP PUTNAM  Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County

He is 67 MA and an ‘inmate’ in an Old Folks Place. I don’t find him before this anywhere.

 

EUGENE PUTNAM  Glendale, Monroe County

He is 29 WI WI a farmer. His wife Maria is 28 WI GER. He is a son of John Putnam and Julia Adeline Wells. He was at home in Chippewa Falls in 1900.

 

EUNICE PUTNAM  Greenfield, Monroe County

She is 80 MA MA and still widowed as she was in 1900. In 1880 was married to William Barron Putnam a clergyman from Vermont. She is still here in 1910 at age 85.

 

STEPHEN & NELLI PUTMAN  La Grange, Monroe County

He is a single male age 12 born in Stockbridge. He is an Indian on a reservation. His sister Nellie age 14 is on the same reservation. Fred is a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County, Illinois. He was there in 1870, and then I lose him in 1880. They are married in Chickasaw County Iowa though in 1900. Della’s family was there in 1900 too. That’s where they met and married. They are kids of Fred and Della Putnam. Della is Indian and a daughter of John Hamilton Putman. John’s wife Basheba was a full blooded Indian. John Putman is Dutch from New York State. Fred is a New Englander. They are in Shawano County in 1910, which is a large Indian Territory.

 

GEORGE PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is 56 NY NY and his wife Margaret Jane Brooks is 55 OH OH. At home still are Ira 17 WI, Earl 13 WI and Florence 9 WI. He is a son of Isaac Putman and Mary Duel. Isaac is a son of Solomon Putman and Margaret Walrath.  Dutch family from Jefferson County New York. Margaret will die here in 1907, and George will marry Mary Dinger here in Sparta around 1910, and they will be in Washington County, Oregon by the 1920 census. Mary was married to his cousin Isaac Van Rensselaer Putman who died here in 1908.

 

ISAAC PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is Isaac Van Rensselaer Putman 76 NY NY, his second wife Mary C. Dinger 45 GER and Nora 19 WI. He is a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Emhoff from Jefferson County, NY. He was born August 21, 1836 in Herkimer County New York. He was in Eau Clair County in 1900 and here before that. He will die here February 28, 1908.

 

JACOB PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

Jacob Roswell Putman is 22 NY OH and his wife Margaret Ann Young is 22 WI. He is a well driller and they were just married October 10. 1903. He is a son of George Lewis Putman and Margaret Jane Brooks, and was born right here. They are here through1930. Dutch family originally from New York State.

 

MILTON E. (ELMER) PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is 33 WI NY, his second wife Ida B. Lorenze is 28 WI GER, and they have George E. 11 WI, Esther 7 WI, Sadie 3 WI and Pearl 1 WI. George and Esther are kids with Milton’s first wife Mary Reitz who died in 1899. He and Ida were married here November 3, 1900. He is a son of George Lewis Putman and Margaret Jane Brooks, and was born right here. New York Dutch family.

 

ELIZA  & HAZEL PUTMAN  Wells, Monroe County

Eliza is 16 WI and Hazel 12 WI. They are listed as stepdaughters of James and Ella Ripley. Ella Nichols 43 WI is their mom. Lester Putman was married to Ella Nichols, who has remarried James W. Ripley. They got a divorce in the late 1890s. Lester was a son of Isaac Putman and Mary Duel from here. He is remarried and in Nebraska now. Ella is with James Ripley and her daughter Hazel in Angelo Center, Monroe County in 1910. Dutch family.

 

RUSSELL PUTNAM  Oconto Falls, Oconto County

He is 25 WI WI and works in a paper mill. His wife Ida Wolfe is 24 WI GER. They were just married in Marinette County in 1900, and are here in 1910 and 1920 with a couple of kids.

 

LOUIS J. PUTMAN  Appleton, Outagamie County

He is 27 IA NY and a civil engineer. His wife Catherine L. is 27 WI CAN and they have Kathryn M. 1/12 WI. He is a son of Henry Harold Putnam and Elvira Ann Stanclift from Delaware County Iowa. Family was originally from Connecticut. Louis was at home in 1880. Not sure where he was in 1900.

 

SARAH PUTMAN  Appleton, Outagamie County

She is 87 IN KY TN and widowed. She is living with her granddaughter Ada Marsh 35 WI PA and her husband Edward Marsh 38 WI IRE NS and their kids. Sarah Campbell is the widow of Edwin Putnam from Winnebago County. Ada is a daughter of her son Thomas Putnam and his wife Lillie from Winnebago County. They were all living together there in 1880.

 

GEORGE W. PUTNAM  Seymour, Outagamie County

He is 73 NY NY and retired. His wife Nancy Wingate is also 73 NY. They have a grandson Victor 14 WI. Victor was with them in 1900 and probably belongs to their son Wilbur who was missing then and now. Nancy is widowed here in 1910 and will still be in 1920 and living with her son Nelson. He is a son of Cornelius and Clarissa Putman from Onondaga County, NY. The family is Dutch.

 

NELSON J. PUTNAM  Seymour, Outagamie County

He is a carpenter 41 NY NY and his wife Cora May Hunter 34 WI ME. They have Blanche 13 WI, Orilla 12 WI, Vernon 9 WI, Nancy 7 WI, Nelson 5 WI and Sarah 1 WI. He is a son of George and Nancy Putman from here. They were in Brown County in 1900 and will be here in 1910. They then will be in Rock County in 1920 and his then widowed mother Nancy will be with him. Dutch family from Onondaga County, New York.

 

WILLIAM H. PUTNAM  River Falls, Pierce County

He is 45 WI CT CT, Mattie L. Foster his wife of 15 years is 38 WI IL NY. They have a nephew Edward L. Thomas 15 IL ENG and niece Louise Thomas 14 IL with them. He is a son of John Day Putnam and Catherine Lovell from here and Connecticut before that. William married Mattie L. Foster in River Falls, Wisconsin on May 21, 1890. He is the city treasurer here in River Falls. He and Mattie are here in 1910 and 1920, still no kids.

 

LYDIA L. PUTNAM  Eureka, Polk County

She is divorced as she was in 1900. She is 56 MI ME NY. She has Calvin Wilson 21 WI MI MI from her first marriage and Stephen A. Putnam 14 MN PA MI from her second. Then living next door is her married son Ernest Wilson 36 MI and his family. Ernest and his wife Jessie are gone in 1910, but their 4 kids are here with Lydia. Her son Stephen in the 1925 Iowa State Census states his folks were Israel Putman and Lydia Armstrong. Pretty sure Israel was the son of Pliney and Martha Putnam as shown in the 1857 census of Rice County Minnesota. He and his folks were from Pennsylvania and Stephen was born in Minnesota.

 

WEBSTER PUTNAM  Racine, Racine County

He is 48 NY NY, and his wife Mary 45 PA, William 21 PA and Webster Junior 16 WI. Also here is their married daughter Lillian 18 WI and her husband Charles J. Tulley 23 OH. They were here in 1900 and still are in 1910. Lillian has divorced by 1910 and married  William Schetle by 1920. They are in Milwaukee in 1920. He is a son of Jacob and Mary Putman from Albany, New York. He was home there in 1860. Dutch family from New York State.

 

FRED E. PUTNAM  Orion, Richland County

He is 43 WI, Luella Jane Bobb 45 WI, Peter F. 19 WI, Ralph A. 15 WI, Florence M. 8 WI. He is a son of George Washington Putnam and Martha Brewer. He was at home in 1880 in Marshall, Richland County. He married Louella here September 4, 1884. Her widowed father Peter F. Bobb 86 MD GER GER is next door as is her brother Frank Bobb 35 IA and his family. They are here still in 1910. Then they will be in Stanislaus County, California in 1920.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

He is now 19 WI NY NY. He is a son of Sylvester Putnam and Laura Chatterton from Dane County and then here where he died April 13, 1900. He is living with his mother Laura 49 NY NY CAN and her new husband August Johoepsky 52 GER.

 

CHARLES T. PUTNAM  Janesville, Rock County

He is a merchant 45 WI NY. His wife Harriet M. Lappin is 43 WI. They are with her widowed mother Mary Jane Lappin 77 NY as they were in 1900 and still are in 1910. . He is a son of Sereno and Jane Putnam and was born here. He was still single at home in 1900, and will be here in 1910 and 1920 with Harriet. New England family.

 

H. (HARRY) PUTMAN  Janesville, Rock County

He is 58 MA MA and his wife Mary Dippen is 41 WI GA. They have at home Parker 19 WI and Cora 16 WI. He grows tobacco leaves. They were here in 1900. Mary is widowed here in 1910 and 1920. Don’t know Harry’s line. I can’t find him in Mass. in 1850 or 1860 or out here in 1880.

 

CARRIE PUTMAN  Union, Rock County

She is 32 WI and widowed as she was in 1900. At home are 3a 13 WI, Bessie 11 WI, Lottie 9 WI and Frank 8 WI. She was married Albert F. Putnam here on November 25, 1891. He died around 1897. She will marry Clarence Bullock in 1907, and be here with him and the kids in 1910 and 1920.

 

MATT C. (CARPENTER) PUTNAM  Flambeau, Rusk County

He is 26 WI OH WI single and operating a farm with two laborers living with him. He is a son of Oliver Shakespeare Putman and Alice Makvina Copp from Brodhead, Green County. He was there in 1880 and in 1900. He will marry Carrie Patterson here on October 26, 1905 and they are back in Brodhead in 1910 and on. German family from Hampshire County Virginia.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Ladysmith, Rusk County

He is 32WI VT CAN, Agnes Noteman his wife of 10 years is 27 WI, Gale O. a son 7 WI, his twin Gladys M. 7 WI. He is a son of John B. Putnam and Addie Wells, and was born in Chippewa Falls. He was at home with his folks in 1880, and was there in 1900 with Agnes. He and Agnes are still here in 1910 and 1920.

 

JOHN E. PUTMAN  Birnamwood, Shawano County

He is 49 CAN CAN and his wife Ella 47 MI MI. He was here in 1900 married two years to Rose who would be 41 OH now. They said they were each married twice. They are gone by 1910.

He is 33 WI NY single and boarding in a hotel.

 

FRED PUTNAM  Menominee Indian Reservation, Shawano County

He is 40 WI and his wife Della Putman is also 40 WI. They have Nellie 16 WI, Henry (Stephen in 1910) 14 WI, Elbert (Elrod in 1910) 12 WI, Lizzy 9 WI, Katy 6, WI, Mary 3 WI and Frank 1/12 WI. Also here is his brother Albert 36 WI and his mother Basheba 73 WI (should be NY). Fred is a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County, Illinois. New England line. He was there in 1870. Then Della. She is a daughter of John Hamilton and Basheba Putman from Montgomery County New York. Basheba was a Stockbridge Mohegan Indian and so Della is Indian as well. John Hamilton is on the Dutch line and is here in the County now. Fred and the family were in Butler County Iowa in the 1895 State Census and Chickasaw County Iowa in 1900. They are here in Shawano County in 1910, 1920 and 1930.

He is 38 WI NY and his wife Lena Maurer 32 WI GER. He says he is a capitalist. Good for him! He is a son of Gilbert and Catherine Putnam. He was born here, and married here in 1900. They are here in 1910 and Lena is widowed here in 1920 and 1930. Dutch folks from New York State.

 

CHARLES H. PUTNAM  Arcadia, Trempealeau County

He is a Doctor 61 NY NY and widowed. His daughter Katie is 22 WI and divorced. She has a daughter Vivian 2 WI. He was married to Sarah Smith in La Crosse County and she died in the late 1890s. He was widowed there with Katie in 1900. He is a son of Isaac Putman and Mary Duel from Jefferson County, NY and then here in Sparta, Wisconsin. Dutch family from New York State.

 

SETH PUTNAM  Arcadia, Trempealeau County

He is widowed and 76 VT MA. He is a carpenter. His married daughter Jessie Farber 34 WI and her husband George Farber 39 MN are with him. They are all here in 1910. He was here in 1880 and 1900 with different wives each time. I think he is a son of John Putnam and Frances Stone of Cabot, Vermont.

 

LESTER G. PUTNAM  Trempealeau, Trempealeau County

He is 32 MN NY MN, and his wife Grace is 29 MN, and Gayle a son 4 WI. He is a son of Charles J. Putnam and Harriet Irwin from New York State. He was in Winona County Minnesota with them in 1880 and married there in 1900. They are still here in 1910 and 1920.

 

EUGENE PUTNAM  Darien, Walworth County

He is 26 WI NY IL single and a farm worker. I would guess he is the son of John Putnam and Addie Wells from Auburn, Chippewa County. He was there in 11880 and 1900. I don’t find him after this.

 

GEORGE W. PUTNAM  Darien, Walworth County

He is 67 VT MA NH, Eliza Jane his wife of 40 years now is 59 VT VT VT. They have Earl Dodge 16 WI and Harold Dodge 11 WI listed as grandsons with them. He is a son of Daniel Putnam (1834) and Rebecca Jane Carlton. He was at home in 1850 and 1860 in Rock County. In 1870 he was still in Rock County, and married to Eliza. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1910. Eliza will be widowed here in 1920.

 

JOSEPHINE PUTMAN  Darien, Walworth County

She is 49 IL and has Frederick R. 20 WI, Maude 19 WI and Emma J. 16 WI. She was here in 1900 and married then to Warren Putnam. She is here in 1910 and says she is divorced then. No idea where Warren is now. Fred is married to Helen in Fond du Lac County in 1910 and Dodge County in 1920 and 1930.

 

MONROE PUTMAN  Walworth, Walworth County

He is a baker 52 IL NY. His wife Etta Ann Holister is 45 IL IL and they now have at home Pearle 17 WI, Clyde 16 WI, Glenn 8 WI, Leo 6 WI and Roy 3 WI. James Monroe is a son of Frederick and Jane Putman from Linn, Walworth County. He and Etta were married here April 22, 1884. He was at home back in 1860 and 1870. They are here through 1930 and longer.

 

FRED PUTMAN  Dakota, Waukesha County

He is 27 WI Jun 1878 and a hired hand of Hans Larson. He is a son of Jacob and Mary Putnam from Waushara County. He’ll be in Monroe County, Wisconsin in 1910, and in Houston County, Minnesota in 1920.

 

ROY PUTMAN  Oconomowoc, Waukesha County

He is 22 WI WI single and boarding. He will be here in 1910 married to Lena Brandt. The marriage record reads William Putnam and Lena Brandt November 20, 1906. So Roy must be his middle name. He will be here in the County in 1920 with a new wife Sarah from Norway. He and Sarah are in Rock County in 1930. Can’t figure his folks though, probably Dutch.

 

WARD PUTMAN  Oconomowoc, Waukesha County

He is 49 NY NY a laborer. His wife Margaret Wussaw is 30 WI GERM and they have Harvey 12 WI, Arabella 7 WI, Herbert 8 WI and Esther 2 WI. Her brother Edward Wussaw 19 WI GERM is with them. He is George Ward Putman jr. a son of George and Nancy from Outagamie County. He married Margaret May 15, 1896. This is his second marriage. He first married Louisa Kupkufelke here August 13, 1881. Dutch Family from Oswego County, New York.

 

DORA PUTNAM  Waukesha, Waukesha County

She is Dora Luella Park 45 MN, her daughter Daphine W. 24 WI. Her widowed mother Sarah F. Park 76 NY and some 8 boarders are with her. She is an artist. She was married here to Wilton Putnam a son of Prucius and Emeline Putnam from here and Vermont before that. He died here September 2, 1882. She will be with her daughter in Milwaukee in 1920 and 1930.

 

GILES PUTNAM  New London, Waupaca County

He is 29 WI and has his widowed mother Catherine 65 NY with him. She was married to Gilbert Putman in Sheboygan County in 1880 and 1900. Gilbert was a son of Benjamin Putman and Sophia Moyer. He was home in 1850 in Cazenovia, New York. Dutch family. Giles was single here in 1900 as well. He will marry Emma H. Shaw here in 1909 and they are here in 1910. He and Emma are in Oshkosh, Winnebago County in 1920, and then back here by 1930.

 

EDWARD PUTMAN  Marion, Waushara County

He is 36 WI NY. His wife Tillie (Matilda Hemple) is 30 WI GER. They have Maud 7 WI, Ora 5 WI, Arden 3 WI and Ruth 1 WI. His widowed father Jacob 86 NY and brother Bert 33 WI are with him. Jacob will die here January 6, 1906. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Mary Jane Marr from Waushara County. In 1900 they were in Waukesha County, in 1910 will be in Green Lake County, and in 1920 they will be in Racine, Racine County. Dutch folks from New York State.

He is 48 WI US ‘single’ and boarding. He is a mason. He is a son of Jacob Putnam and Mary Marr. He was born in Marion, Waushara County. He was married to Lillie Bishop in Oshkosh, Winnebago County in 1900. I don’t find her now, and I don’t find either in 1910.

 

CLARA PUTMAN  Wautoma Township, Waushara County

She is 67 NY and widowed. She was alone here in 1900 and will be here in 1910 with her widowed daughter Lillie E. Cook. Can’t figure her out.

 

C. H. (CLINTON HAMILTON) PUTMAN  Omro, Winnebago County

He is 46 WI NY and his wife Harriet Jane Russell is 44 WI SCOT. He is son of David and Elvira Putnam from here. He was shown at home in the 1870 and 1880 here. He first married Dora C. Bristol here on October 21, 1887. He later married Harriet here on June 22, 1897. He is a farmer, but doing okay as they have two servants. They are in Providence, Rhode Island in 1910 and then in Crawford County Pennsylvania in 1920.

 

DAVID PUTMAN  Omro, Winnebago County

He is a capitalist 80 NY NY and his wife Cynthia is 78 VT VT CT. He is a son of Roswell Putnam (1170) and Mary Parks from Sanford, Broome County, New York. He was here in 1870 and 1880 married to Elvira Doolittle. He was widowed here in 1900 and Cynthia is new. He will die here on March 31, 1907. New England family.

 

ADDISON L. (LINCOLN) PUTNAM  Grand Rapids, Wood County

He’s been using the name Abraham Lincoln up till now and will in 1920. But he uses Addison in 1910. Anyway, he is a clergyman 34 WI VT and his wife Lily Octavia Higginbottom is 29 WI IN. They have Arthur 10 WI, Leon 8 WI, George W. 5 WI and Gordon L. (Lawrence) 3/12 WI. He is a son of George Washington Putnam and Martha Brewer from Rutland, County, Vermont. They were in Richland County back in 1860. He was married to Lillie in Dodge County in 1900. She will die and he will marry Evelyn L. Ward in December 1918 here in Wisconsin. He and Evelyn will be in Dewey County, South Dakota in 1920. Arthur will have his own family there  then. The son George will be in the Army at Fort Dix in New Jersey in 1920. They are all in Hughes County South Dakota in 1930.

 

FRED H. PUTMAN  Richfield, Wood County

He is 51 NY, Cynthia Eldridge his wife 44 WI. Their kids at home are George 19 WI, Sarah 12 WI and Grace 9 WI. Also here is Cynthia’s father John P. Eldridge 71 OH as he was in 1900. Then his married sister Clara Eaton 34 WI and her kids Melvin 9 WI, Dora 7 WI are here too. Kinda looks like Sereno James Putnam’s son as show in 1880 in Rock County. They are in Oshkosh, Winnebago County by 1910.

He is 43 MI NY NY and works for the railroad. Frances E. Curry, his wife of 25 years is 42 WI and Ethel is 12 WI. Ethel is a daughter of Frances’ sister Henrietta Curry who died December 31, 1900. William and Frances have adopted her. He is a son of Abraham Putnam and Mary Blazier as shown at home in 1870 and 1880 in Leslie, Ingham County Michigan. They were in Jackson County in 1900. They are in Duluth, Minnesota in 1920 and 1930.

 

PERCIVAL PUTNAM  Cable Township, Bayfield County

He is 19 CAN CAN CAN, Laura M. Hill, his wife of just two years, is 16 WI and they have Margaret A. 2 WI. They live with her folks George and Ardelia Hill. By 1920, Percy will be in Douglas County and married to Bertha. Had a divorce as Laura will be marrying Gustav Bliesner and they and two of the kids are in Crow Wing County Minnesota in 1920. Percival Oswald Putnam is a son of Robert Putnam and Margaret Pratt from Benttinick, Grey South, Ontario. He was shown at home in 1891 at age 4 months. Robert was a son Solomon Putnam and Emily Pearson from Wellington North in 1881. New England line.

 

LESLIE E. PUTNAM  De Pere, Brown County

He is 35 WI CAN CAN, Mollie Johnson, his wife of 11 years, is 35 WI DEN DEN, Merlin J. 9 WI, Priscilla C. 5 WI and Lucille A. 1 8/12 WI. They were here in 1900 and 1905 and were living with his father Alexander Putnam. They will still be here in 1940.

 

PRESCOTT PUTNAM  De Pere, Brown County

He is a son of Alexander and Rosanna Putnam from here. He was born in Nova Scotia. He is now 54 CAN CAN CAN. His second wife Caroline Wright (married 9 years) is 54 WI. Her parents George and Mahalla Wright are with them. Caroline is widowed here in 1920 and 1930, living with her son from her first marriage, Lewis Scheuring.

 

PAULINE PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

She is 60 SWITZ and still has her daughter Annie Weismiller 34 WI with her. She was widowed here in 1900 as well. She had married A. G. Putnam in Green County on November 24, 1886, and he has since died. He was Austin Gilman Putnam a son of Ebenezer Putnam (1503) and Tryphena Bassett from Holden, Massachusetts. Austin was single in Monroe Green County Wisconsin in 1880. He had married Sarah Annie McKay back in Worcester, Massachusetts and she died in Holden in 1854. Austin was in New York City in 1870 then here in 1880. Pauline is Sophie Pauline Ruegger and she first married Emanuel Weissmiller on 27 Oct 1870. Oscar Emmet Weissmiller was born 19 Aug 1873. She is here in 1900 through 1930. She’ll be here in 1930 at age 80 and Annie will still be here then too.

 

THOMAS PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 48 WI HOL HOL. Maggie his wife of 28 years is 46 WI, Tillie 23 WI, John 21 WI, Mammie 14 WI. This is actually Antone Puttemanns and his wife Margaret Ostermann. He was born in Belgium not Holland though. They are here properly listed in 1920. See that entry for some more details.

 

EMMETT PUTNAM  Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County

He is 35 WI WI WI. Alice Keturah Whitman, his wife of 8 years is 18 CAN. He is a son of John Brown Putnam and Julia Adeline Wells, and was born right here. He is an Insurance Agent, probably works for his dad’s firm. He and Keturah will be here in 1920 and living with his widowed mother.

 

JOHN B. PUTNAM  Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County

He is 63 WI VT VT and an Insurance Agent. Julia Adeline Wells, his wife of 40 years, is 60 CAN. Their son Archie L. 24 WI is still with them. He was born here, a son of William Barron Putnam and Esther Brown from Vermont before that. He will die here August 15, 1919, and Addie will be here in 1920.

 

ARTHUR PUTNAM  Anson, Chippewa County

He is 20 WI VT WI single and works on the farm of James Earl. He’ll still be single in 1920 working on another farm in town. He is a son Clara Putnam who is with his brother listed next.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Anson, Chippewa County

He is 25 WI VT WI and single. He has his widowed mother Clara 44 WI, his sister Hester 16 WI, brother Guy 13 WI, and Roy 3 WI listed as an adopted son of Clara’s. Clara and the kids were in Barron County in 1900 and 1905, and she was without a husband then too. Clara Mandada Mapes married Ephraim Putnam in Chippewa County January 25, 1883 and he died about 1896. Ephraim was a son of Jonathan Putnam (1952) and Mary Stockwell of Bradford, Orange County Vermont. Young Roy is a son of her son Roy Lloyd who is currently in Oshkosh, Winnebago County and young Roy is listed there as well.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Bloomer, Chippewa County

He is 52 WI VT SCOT, Rosa M. Steese, his wife of 29 years, is 43 WI and their married daughter Emma Emery 27 WI is with them. He is a son of John Putnam and his first wife Lucy Hyde from Orange County Vermont. They were here in 1880 and in Sauk County in 1860. Charles was single here in 1880 and married to Rosa in 1881. He will be in a hospital in San Jose California in 1920 and in Mendocino widowed in 1930.

 

FLOY PUTNAM  Loyal Township, Clark County

Listed as Floyd, but this is a gal Floy 21 IL and her sister Lilla 18 IL. They are listed as stepdaughters of William Meeks and his wife Ella Flynn Putnam 46 IL. They were all in Rockford, Winnebago County Illinois in 1900. They also had a brother Guy who is in Kansas City now. Their mother is Ella Flynn Putnam. Now Ella Elizabeth Flynn married Omer Putnam here on September 28, 1881. He died in 1898 or 1899, and she had just married William Meeks in 1900. They have a son Earl 6 WI. The daughters are all married here by 1920. William and Ella are here in 1920, and Ella is widowed by 1930 and living with her son Earl in Rockford, Winnebago County Illinois by 1930.

He is 36 WI US US, Annie Metzger his wife of 14 years now is 34 WI. They live next door to her widowed mother Ernestine Metzger 62 GER. He is a son of Cyrus Putnam and Harriet Sanderson from Green County. He and Annie were here in Mayville in 1900 and in Dorchester in 1905. They are in Taylor County in 1920.

He is 35 WI NY WI, Clara Maude Bangle, his wife of 14 years, is 29 WI, Helen 9 WI, Marie 7 WI, Ernest 5 WI, a son Ivy (Ivan Victor) 3 WI and Lyman 10/12 WI. He lives next to his folks John and Amanda. Been here all his life. He was born April 10, 1875 and will die here May 26, 1927.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Mentor Township, Clark County

He is now 59 NY NY NY, Amanda Paulina Nokes his wife of 39 years is 55 WI and their son Russell 28 WI Is at home. John will die here November 4, 1917, and in 1920 Amanda will be with her son Russell who will be married by then. John Putman is a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Emhoff from Jefferson County NY and then in Sparta, Monroe County WI. Dutch family.

 

W. (WILLIAM) C. PUTNAM  Mentor Township, Clark County

He is 38 WI NY NY and divorced. He is a physician of general practice. He lives by himself. He is a son of George and Nancy from Seymour, Outagamie County in 1800. He wasn’t around in 1900. He served in the Spanish American War and was out of the Country then. He will die of a heart attack shortly on April 23, 1910.

 

JOHN L. PUTMAN  Columbus, Columbia County

He is 23 WI WI WI and a manager in a lumberyard. Mary his wife of 4 years is 27 WI and they have Leland a son 2 WI. He is a son of Isaac Putman and Mary Duel from Sparta, Monroe County. He will be in Marshall, Dane County by 1920. Dutch folks.

 

ELIZA PUTNAM  Fall River Township, Columbia County

She is 65 NY and widowed. She has been here widowed forever.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Wyocena, Columbia County

He is 45 US and an inmate in the Columbia County Asylum and Alms House. The age is off, but he is the son of the above Eliza Putnam. She had a son John with her here in 1900 and she was married in 1880 to August Ebert. Eliza was married to a Putnam before that and widowed in Dodge County in 1860 and 1870. He is here through 1930. His brother Ezra will be here in the Alms House in 1920 as well.

 

ALBERT P. PUTMAN  Freeman, Crawford County

He is 42 WI PA OH, the wife’s name looks like Andine 51 OH, and they have Albert P. 15 WI. They say they are married for 18 years now. But I can’t find anyone who would fit. Hard entry to read, but I don’t know if they are Putmans or Putnams.

 

CLARK M. (MILTON) PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 42 NY NY NY. An insurance agent. Alma Grace Rogers, his wife of 12 years, is 31 WI and they have Grace 10 WI. They were here in 1900. He is the son of Alfred Putnam and Mary Ackerman. He was with them in Eaton County Michigan in 1870 and here in Sheboygan in 1880. They are here in 1920.

He is 40 WI MA MA. Dorothy Pierson, his wife of 13 years, is 33 WI, young Robert 11 WI and Charlotte 3 WI. She was in De Pere, Brown County in 1900, but he was somewhere else then. They were here in 1905. They are here in 1920 through 1940 too. He is a son of Alexander and Rosanna Putnam from De Pere.

 

RUTH PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

Listed as Butman. Ruth is now 50 WI, her daughter Mary 24 WI, and she has an adopted son Victor Frame 9 WI. Ruth Calloway was married to George Henry Putnam here through 1900. He was a son of George W. Putnam and Martha Rebecca Brewer, and was in Richland County in 1880. He and Ruth were married in Crawford County December 25, 1883. Ruth says she is married, but from here on says she is widowed so I assume they split up.

 

WILLIAM H. (HENRY) PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 33 IL NY IRE and Mary E. Devitt his wife of 7 years is 38 WI. Also here is her brother Martin Devitt 22 WI is with them. He is a son of William Hollis and Catherine Putnam from Kendall County Illinois. He was born there October 5, 1875 and home there in 1880, and with them in Lee County Illinois in 1900. The folks have moved to Nebraska. Dutch family from New York State. William will die here in 1919, and Mary is widowed here in 1920 and 1930.

He is now 63 NY NY NY, and Emma Andrews Smith 63 NY. They have been here married for 40 years now. He is a son of John and Catherine Putnam from here in Oregon. He’s been here since he was 3 years old. Emma is widowed here by 1920.

 

ALLEN F. (FREEMONT) PUTNAM  Oregon Township, Dane County

He is 46 WI WI WI, Cora D. Calvert or Colver, his wife of 19 years now, is 43 WI, Raymond E. 18 WI, Bernard S. 17 WI, Louis G. 9 WI, and Laura A. 1 6/12 WI. He is a son of Lafayette and Melissa Putnam. He was here in 1900 as was his widowed mother. Allen and Cora are here in 1920 too.

 

ANNIE J. (JOHANNA) PUTMAN  Gibraltar, Door County

She is 33 WI, Ensor 14 WI and Gladys 10 WI. Anna Johanna Nelson is the widow of Orson Andrew Putman. They were married September 6, 1893. Orson died here July 6, 1899 leaving her widowed. She had these kids with her in 1900. She still lives with her folks Carl and Maria Nelson. Ensor is married here in 1920. Guess Annie got remarried by then too.

 

ALONZO S. (SYLVESTER) PUTNAM  Sturgeon Bay, Door County

He is 46 IL UN UN, Lucretia Catherine Johnson, his wife of 22 years, is 42 CAN, Hubert A. 21 WI, Phyllis M. 10 WI, Edgar D. 7 WI and Alonzo R. (Robert) 3 WI. He is a son of John and Sarah Putman and was with them here in 1880. He was born back in Aurora, Kane County Illinois February 5, 1864. He and Lucretia were married here March 29, 1887 and here in the 1900 census. He will die May 22, 1917, and Lucretia will be widowed in Chicago, Illinois in 1920 living with her son Hubert and his wife Ella.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Superior, Douglas County

He is indexed as Clause Putnam, and again as Charles at a different address. Anyway he and Gloria were here in 1900. He is 40 WI VT VT, Clara Brown his wife of 16 years is 39 WI, Emmett 14 WI and Ina M. 6 WI. He is a son of John B. and Addie Putnam, and was at home with them in Auburn, Chippewa County in 1880. He was here in 1900, and I don’t find them in 1920.

 

H. (HARRY) P. PUTMAN  Superior, Douglas County

He is 34 IA NY ENG and is a clerk in a store. His wife Leonora Wright is 28 NE KY KY. She is a daughter of Samuel Noah Wright and Letitia Shain and was born in Nebraska June 28, 1882 and will die Sacramento County California January 28, 1972. They were in Sioux City, Iowa in 1905 and will be in 1915 and 1920. I don’t know his folks but he was born in Iowa and will die in Los Angeles, California May 29, 1929.

He is 25 WI MI IN. He is single and lives in a boarding house.

He is 41 MI OH NY. He is single and in a boarding house. He is a dock laborer.

He is 50 IL NY NY, Laura Christine Larson his wife of 15 years is 34 MI, Myrtle C. 15 NE, Harvey H. (Herbert) 12 NE, May 10 NE, Arnold L. (Lewis) 8 NE, Floyd A. (Arthur) 7 NE, Lillian 4 MN, Edwin I. (Irwin) 3 MN, and Russell S. 1 7/12 WI. He is a son of Harvey Putnam and Leurinda Dewey from Utica, Oneida County New York. William was born in Hale Township, Bureau County Illinois. In 1900, the family was in Wayne County Nebraska. They will be here in 1920. He is a teamster.

 

HENRY C. (CLEVELAND)  PUTMAN  Eau Claire, Eau Claire County

He is 77 NY NY NY and widowed. He has a nurse and a couple of servants living with him. He is a son of Hamilton Putman and Jeanette Cleveland from Cortland, Cortland County New York. He has been here since the 1850s. His wife Jane Balcom has died since 1905.

He is 29 WI NY NY. He is single and boarding. He was single in Dane County in 1900 and here in 1905. He will be married here in 1920. He is a son of Isaac Harper Putnam and Emma Smith from Oregon, Dane County.

 

FRED R. PUTMAN  Waupun, Fond du Lac County

He is 27 IL US IL, Helen his wife of just one year is 29 WI. He is a son of Warren and Josephine Putman and was at home with them in Walworth County in 1900. They are in Dodge County by 1920.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Waupun, Fond du Lac County

He is 38 WI WI WI, Mary, his wife of 15 years, is 34 WI, Florence 6 WI, and Harper 2 WI. He is a son of Isaac Harper Putnam and Emma Smith from Dane County. He was home there in 1880, and here in Waupun in 1900, but it was part of Dodge County then.

 

EDSON A. PUTNAM  Oakfield, Fond du Lac County

Still here and now 77 VT VT VT. Gertrude E. Towne his second wife of 19 years now is 58 OH. Neither is here in 1920 though.

 

JAMES PUTNAM  Wingville, Grant County

He is now 69 CAN NY CAN. He is the local postmaster. Lydia Dulcia Wheeler his wife of 46 years is 62 WI. He is a son of William Putnam (from NY) and Rachel Scott (from Canada) and was born in Canada. They were in Fennimore, Grant County in 1900. By 1920 they are in Winnebago County Illinois. He will die there in 1925.

 

SARAH C. PUTNAM  Albany Township, Green County

Sarah Connett, Hiram Putman’s widow is now 74 OH and lives by herself as she did in 1900 and 1905. Been here forever, married Hiram back in Licking County Ohio before this whole gang moved up here.

 

HENRY C. (CLAY) PUTMAN  Brodhead, Green County

He is now 63 OH VA VA. He has a new wife of 3 years now, Clara Richardson who is 56 WI. There is a stepdaughter Marjory Claycomb 20 IA with them from her first marriage with Granville Franklin Claycomb. Henry is a son of John Jacob Putnam has been here a while and still works as a capitalist, now that he has retired from the Green County Bank. He will die soon, and Clara will be here with her daughter in 1920  through 1940 at least.

 

HARRIET PUTNAM  Brodhead, Green County

She is 74 MA MA NH and still widowed by herself. She is Harriet Sanderson, Cyrus’ widow and has been here a bunch of years. Cyrus died of stomach cancer August 31, 1898. Harriet will die January 30, 1917

 

MATT C. (CARPENTER) PUTNAM  Brodhead, Green County

He is 31 WI WI WI. Carrie A. Patterson, his wife of 4 years, is 32 IL and they have Alice M. 3 WI. He is a butcher. He is Oliver’s son and was born here, German family from Virginia originally. They were married in Rock County October 26, 1905. They are here in 1920 too.

 

EDWARD (EDWIN) PUTMAN  Berlin, Green Lake County

He is 42 WI NY NY, Tillie (Matilda Hemple) his wife of 13 years is 35 WI, Maud 12 WI, Ora a son 10 WI, Arden another son 8 WI, Ruth 6 WI, Vernie a daughter 4 WI, and Thurlow 1 WI. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Mary Jane Marr from Waushara County. In 1900 they were in Waukesha County and in 1920 they will be in Racine, Racine County. Dutch folks from New York State.

 

GERTRUDE PUTNAM  Berlin, Green Lake County

She is 47 WI and divorced. She was here boarding with her mom here in 1900. She was briefly married to Winfield Scott Putnam here from 1883 through the early 1890s. He is remarried over in Oshkosh, Winnebago County and will be through the 1930 at least.

 

ALFRED G. PUTNAM  Fort Atkinson, Jefferson County

He is 29 WI WI WI, Anna Ohl his wife of 7 years is 27 WI, Helen 5 WI. He is a metal polisher at a chandelier company.  He is a son of Elbert Putnam and Agnes Roeitzsch. He was at home with them in Milwaukee in 1900. He married Anna there March 28, 1903. They are in Milwaukee in 1920 and 1930.

He is 46 WI PA TN, Anna C. Reed his wife of 17 years is 44 WI, James K. 17 WI, Esther M. 15 WI, Charles H. 12 WI, Willie O. 9 WI, Glenn R. 6 WI and Ethel M. 4 WI. He is a son of Theron and Elizabeth Putnam. He was at home with them here in 1880 and married here in 1900. They are here in 1920. Dutch family from New York State.

 

FANNIE PUTNAM  Darlington, Lafayette County

She is 44 WI and widowed. Edna is 17 WI, Roy 10 WI, Merle 8 WI. Frances Louise Stott is the widow of William Putnam, Theron’s son, who died in 1904. They were here in 1900. Her folks John and Sarah Stott live next door or probably she is in their house. She is still widowed here with her mom in 1920.

 

ANGIE M. PUTNAM  Antigo, Langlade County

She is 66 MA MA MA and widowed. Her daughter Eleanor Rounds is single and 30 MA MA MA. Angie was married to a Rounds Guy before marrying Joseph Putnam. They were all three here in 1905. Eleanor was listed 26 MA then. Eleanor is a music teacher. Eleanor is in Freeport, Stephenson County Illinois in 1920 and both she and her mom are there in 1930.

 

ISRAEL P. PUTNAM  Merrill, Lincoln County

He is 42 WI VT VT and married 16 years. His wife Vernetta May McBain is 40 WI and they have James L. (Leslie) 15 WI. He is a clerk in the Post Office. He is a son of George Washington Putnam and Martha Rebecca Brewer. The family was in Wallingford, Rutland County Vermont in 1850 and then here in Dane County by 1860. Israel was at home in Richland County in 1880, and married there in 1900. They were here in 1905 and are through 1930 at least.

He is 41 WI NY NY, Margaret Ella Schofield his wife of 5 years is 32 WI. They were married here in Marathon County March 30, 1905. He is a son of Orin Putnam and Elizabeth Lane. He was born in Oshkosh and was single in Utica, Winnebago County in 1900. They are here in 1920.

He is NY WI. He is living with his mother Lena 28 WI and her new husband George Archie 30 MA. They have been married 5 years. Lena married after 1900 so I have no ideas as to her husband.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Marinette, Marinette County

He is 34 MN MA MN and a superintendent in the Electric Plant here. His wife of 8 years, Jessie Gale Eaton is 35 MN, William H. 6 MN, Charlotte A. 3 MN and Alice Eaton 2 MN. He is the son of William Herrick Putnam and Adeline Rowell of Red Wing, Goodhue County Minnesota. He was home there in 1880 and 1900 and married there in 1905. They are in Boise Idaho in 1920 where he is also a manager of a power company. And then in New York City in 1930.

 

ALEXANDER PUTMAN  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 43 MA MA MA, Harriet E. Wakeman his wife of 14 years is 33 PA, and Robert 13 MA. He is a son of Alexander Putnam (2188) of Worcester, Massachusetts. They were married in Brooklyn New York in 1897. He and Harriet were there in 1900. He will be in Los Angeles by 1920 and have a new wife Beatrice Rapp. The son Robert Alexander was born in Worcester February 22, 1899 and will die in Louisville Kentucky September 25, 1941 of respiratory failure. He has a wife named Marian then. They are here in Milwaukee in 1930.

He is 72 NY NY NY, Mary Ackerman his wife of 53 years is now 72 NY. They are still with their daughter Evelyn Peticolas 37 MI who is now widowed. They were here in 1900 and her husband Arthur was alive then. He is a son of Daniel and Dianna Putnam from Jefferson County, New York. They are here in 1920.

 

HERBERT E. (EUGENE) PUTNAM  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 61 WI NY NY. He is on his second marriage and has been married to Mollie Claymier for 7 years now. They were married here May 14, 1903. She is 37 WI. They are here in 1920 too. He is a son of Aaron and Maria Putnam from New York. He was born in Racine, Racine County. He works for the railroad, as he has for many years.

 

PAUL PUTMAN  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 29 GER, Etta Lathrop his wife of 5 years is 25 WI. They are here in 1920 and living with her folks. That’s how I know her last name. Also found the marriage record of December 24, 1904 here in Milwaukee.

 

RALPH PUTMAN  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 40 MA MA NY and divorced. He is lodging and is an ‘Official’ in a metal bed company. He looks like Ralph Franklin Putnam, a son of Franklin Weston Putnam of Danvers, Massachusetts. He was in Danvers in 1900 married to a gal named Mary from Scotland. Problem he is still listed there. But in 1920 he is indeed divorced. He may be out here on business. Just don’t know. No other choices though.

 

WARREN PUTNAM  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 25 WI WI WI and single. He lives with his sister Nora Miller 26 WI and her husband Howard Miller. Warren and Nora are children of Elbert and Agnes Putnam. They were both at home here in Milwaukee in 1900. Warren works for the railroad. Warren will be married here in 1920.

 

EDWIN H. PUTNAM  National Home Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 63 NY NY NY and divorced. He is a ‘member’ in what I guess is an old soldier’s home or somesuch. Only males are here. He is a son of John and Hannah Putnam from Denmark, Lewis County New York. He and his dad and brothers all served in the Civil War. They lived in Winneshiek County Iowa at the time. In 1900, he was married to Martha and was in Allamakee County Iowa. They were divorced around 1905. She is still back there with the kids in Winneshiek County Iowa now.

 

KIRK M. PUTNAM  Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County

He is now 40 KS MA MA and his wife Martha M. Ellis is 40 WI. They have been married 14 years and have Ellis L. 13 WI, Julia 12 WI, Ruth A. 7 WI and Robert B. 4 WI. He is a son of Robert W. and Julia Putnam and was born in Leavenworth, Kansas and has been here since the 1880s. They are in Minneapolis by 1920 and his widowed mother Julia will be with them.

 

HAZEL V. PUTMAN  Angelo Center, Monroe County

She is 17 WI WI WI. She lives with her mother Ella A. Ripley 48 WI and her stepfather James W. Ripley 44 WI. They have been married for 15 years. I guess Hazel wasn’t listed as a Putman in 1900. Ella is Ella A. Nichols. She was married to Lester Isaac Putman, son of Isaac Putman and Mary Duel from Sparta. Lester was with his mother and the other two kids in 1900, and presently is in Corvalles , Oregon stating he is widowed. Oh well, just didn’t want to admit he was divorced by Ella.

 

EUNICE PUTNAM  Greenfield, Monroe County

She is 85 MA MA MA, widowed and living alone. She was widowed here in 1900 and in 1880 was married to William Barron Putnam a clergyman from Vermont.

 

MAME A. PUTMAN  Sheldon Township, Monroe County

She is 26 WI WI WI, single and boarding. She is a schoolteacher. She is a daughter of Lester Putman and Ella Nichols from Sparta. She was with her dad there in 1900. Her mom had remarried by then.

 

JACOB R. (ROSWELL) PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is 27 WI NY OH, a mail carrier. He has been married to Margaret Ann Young 26 WI for 6 years now. They married October 10. 1903. They have Clifford J. 4 and Frances E. 1 9/12 WI. He is a son of George Lewis Putman and Margaret Jane Brooks, and was born right here. They are here in 1920 too.  Dutch family originally from New York State.

 

MILTON E. (ELMER) PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is 37 WI NY OH. Ida Lorenze his wife of 9 years is 34 WI, Margaret E. 8 WI, Sadie I. 7 WI, Pearl M. 5 WI, J. R. (a son and that’s his actual full name) 4 WI. Then there are George E. 16 WI and Esther M. 12 WI. They are kids with Milton’s first wife Mary Reitz who died in 1899. He and Ida were married here November 3, 1900. Milton and these two kids were living with his folks, George Lewis Putman and Margaret Brooks, in 1900. He and Ida and the kids are here in 1920.

 

FRED PUTNAM  Tomah, Monroe County

He is 32 WI WI NY and single. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Mary Marr from Waushara County. He was in Waukesha County in 1900, and will be in Houston County Minnesota in 1920. He never married. Dutch family from New York. He also gets a separate listing boarding in a lodging house here in town.

He is 29 WI WI WI. Ida Wolfe his wife of 10 years is 28 WI, Helen 4 WI and Marvin 2 WI. They were just married in Marinette County in 1900, and were here in 1905. They are here in 1920.

 

JESSE PUTNAM  Rhinelander, Oneida County

He is 31 WI NY WI, and married 3 years to Matilda Zumach 41 WI. They were married here September 23, 1907. She was married before and has Willie 16 WI, Erwin 14 WI and Emma 12 WI with her. They seem to have taken the Putnam name as nothing else is listed. Don’t find them in 1920. Jesse is a son of George and Mary Putnam. He was at home with them in Outagamie County in 1880 and in Brown County in 1900.

 

NANCY PUTMAN  Seymour, Outagamie County

She is now 77 NY NY NY and now widowed. Nancy Wingate is now the widow of George Putnam who died here September 22, 1905. In 1920, she will be in Beloit, Rock County and living with her son Nelson who is here in town. She will die March 4, 1921 and be buried back here in Seymour.

 

NELSON J. PUTMAN  Seymour, Outagamie County

He is 45 NY NY NY, a mechanic. Cora M. his wife of 19 years is 38 WI, Aurilla V. 16 WI, Vernon E. 14 WI, Nancy R. 12 WI, Nelson J. Junior 9 WI, Israel C. 6 WI, Charles W. 4 WI and Rosella A. M. 1 WI. He is a son of George and the above Nancy, and is back where he was most of his life. He was in Brown County in 1900 and here in 1905. They then will be in Rock County in 1920 and his mother Nancy will be with him. Dutch family from Onondaga County New York.

 

VICTOR PUTNAM  Shiocton, Outagamie County

He is 19 WI NY WI, single and boarding. In 1900 and 1905 he was listed as a grandson of George and Nancy Putnam in Seymour, Outagamie County. I found a family group sheet and it seems he was a son of George and Nancy’s daughter Lydia out of wedlock I assume. Victor will enlist in the Army and be injured in WWI. He will be in a government hospital in New Mexico and die there May 11, 1923 and be buried back in Seymour. He was born here March 1, 1891. Dutch family.

 

SEMPHRONIAS PUTNAM  Ellsworth, Pierce County

He is 82 NY MA CT, Tamar Amanda Houck his wife of 61 years is 81 NY. He is a son of Pliny Putnam and Flora Edgerton. He was born in Arkwright, New York September 20, 1827. He was in Hillsdale, Winona County Minnesota from the 1850s through the 1880. I don’t find him in 1900 though.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  River Falls, Pierce County

He is 50 WI WI CT, Mattie L. Foster his wife of 20 years is 43 WI. They have a niece Louise Thomas 18 IL with them. He is a son of John Day Putnam and Catherine Lovell. William married Mattie L. Foster in River Falls, Wisconsin on May 21, 1890. He is the city treasurer here in River Falls. He and Mattie are here in 1920, still no kids.

 

LYDIA PUTNAM  Eureka Township, Polk County

She is Lydia Armstrong 61 MI and widowed. She was here in 1900 with a son Calvin Wilson from a first marriage and Stephen A. Putnam from her second marriage with Israel Putnam. They lived next to Ernest and Jessie Wilson in 1905. They are gone, but their kids are here, Cora 8 WI, Hazel 6 WI, a boy 4 WI and Lydia 2 WI all last name Wilson and listed as grandchildren. Ernest Wilson was her son. Her son Stephen in the 1925 Iowa State Census states his folks were Israel Putman and Lydia Armstrong. Pretty sure Israel was the son of Pliney and Martha Putnam as shown in the 1857 census of Rice County Minnesota. He and his folks were from Pennsylvania and Stephen was born in Minnesota.

 

E. (ELVIN) W. PUTNAM  Pine Grove, Portage County

He is 32 MI MI NY. He is lodging and states he is married now for 7 years. He is working on a dredge here. He is also listed with his wife of 7 years Nellie in Steuben County Indiana. He is a son of Henry Orlin Putnam and Emily Mains from Sunfield, Eaton County Michigan. He was home there in 1880 and 1900. They are back in Eaton County in 1920.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Lake Township, Price County

He is 22 US (actually WI VT WI). His wife of 1 year Rose Bell Foster is 17 WI. He was shown with his widowed mother Clara in Barren County in 1900. She is currently in Chippewa County living with his brother Frank. In 1920, She is over here in Price County as are John and Rose. All I have on his dad was that he was from Vermont. Nothing more. They are here in 1920 and in Michigan in 1930.

 

ARTHUR PUTMAN  Racine, Racine County

He is 20 WI WI WI single and boarding. He is an iron polisher. He is a son of Isaac Harper Putman and Emma Smith from Dane County. He was there in 1900. He will be married in Dodge County in 1920.

 

WEBSTER B. PUTNAM  Racine, Racine County

He is 52 NY NY NY and has been married 28 years to Mary Ann 50 PA. At home still are Webster 20 WI, their now divorced daughter Lillia Tully 22 WI and her son Burnette 3 WI. She was married to Charles Tully here in 1905, and she will be married to William Schetle by 1920. They are all in Milwaukee in 1920.

He is 48 WI VT VT. Ella Jane Bobb, his wife of 25 years, is 50 WI. They have Ralph 20 WI and Florence 12 WI at home. He is a son of George Washington Putnam and Martha Brewer. He was at home in 1880 in Marshall, Richland County. They were here in 1900, and will be in Stanislaus County California in 1920.

 

EUGENE PUTMAN  Beloit, Rock County

He is 35 WI WI WI. Maria Carls his wife of 9 years is 32 IL, Lillian is 3 IL. James Eugene is a son of Sylvester and Laura Putman from here in Beloit. He was just married here June 14, 1900, and will be in Monroe County in 1920.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Beloit, Rock County

He is 28 IL NY NY. He lives with his sister Emogene Jones 20 OH NY NY and her husband Harland Jones 24 IA. He is a son of Sylvester and Laura Chatterton Putman from here in Beloit. His dad died here in 1900 and his mother had remarried by 1905.

 

WALTER E. (EUGENE) PUTMAN  Beloit, Rock County

He is 30 WI. Best I can do as the page is ‘cut off.’ He is a son of Warren Putnam from Waukesha County in 1880 and Walworth County in 1900. He is here in 1920 listed as an adopted son of Charles Kidder who married his mother Josephine.

He is 17 WI WI WI, his sister Bessie 15 WI, Lottie 13 WI, Frank 12 WI. They were with their widowed mother Carrie Putnam in Union Township, Rock County in 1900 and in Janesville in 1905. Carrie 37 WI has just married Clarence Bullock 37 WI two years ago. They are here in 1920. Still no clue as to their dad, except he might have been Lafayette’s son John who was ‘missing’ from here in 1900.

He is 49 WI US US, his wife of 8 years, Harriet M. Lappin is 48 WI. This is his first marriage, her second. The marriage record of June 27, 1901 was between Charles Putnam and Harried M. Hyzer, her first married name. They are living with her widowed Mother Mary Jane Lappin 82 NY. He is a son of Sereno and Jane Putnam and was born here. He was still single at home in 1900, and will be here in 1920 with Harriet.

She is Mary Dippen 46 WI GER GER and widowed. Her divorced daughter Charlotte Field 26 WI MA WI, her son Parker Putnam 24 WI MA WI, his wife Edna 29 Drew WI, and their son Parker 2 WI are with her. She was married to Harry Putnam from Massachusetts here in 1900. They are here in 1920.

He is 16 WI WI WI and works on the Zinn farm. He is also listed in Evansville with his mother and new stepfather. He is single here in 1920 too.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Ladysmith, Rusk County

He is 37 WI VT CAN, Agnes Noteware his wife of 15 years is 31 WI, Gaile a son 11 WI, his twin Gladys 11 WI. Also here is Agnes’ sister Maud Noteware 33 WI. He is a son of John B. Putnam and Addie Wells, and was born in Chippewa Falls. He was at home with his folks in 1880 and was there in 1900 with Agnes. He and Agnes are still here in 1920.

 

BERT PUTNAM  28 Township, Shawano County

He is an Indian. He is 42 WI NY NY. He is here again in 1920 with a wife and daughter, who aren’t listed here. He is Albert Putman a son of John Hamilton Putman and his wife Basheba who was Indian. They were in Chickasaw County Iowa in 1900 and in Fond du Lac County Wisconsin before that. New York Dutch family.

 

FRED PUTNAM  28 Township, Shawano County

He is 44 WI WI NOR (later IL NY NY), Della Putman his wife of 18 years is 46 WI, Nellie 20 WI, Stephen 18 WI, Elrod 15 WI, Melmuth a son 13 WI, Kittie 10 WI and Wesley 7 WI. They are here in 1920. At that time some of the sons list themselves as Indian. Della is Indian and a daughter of John Hamilton Putman. The Bert listed above is her brother. This area is an Indian Reservation. Fred is a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. He was there in 1870, and then I lose him in 1880. They are married in Chickasaw County Iowa though in 1900. Della’s family was there in 1900 too. That’s where they met and married.

He is 44 CAN MI GER. Rose his wife is 36 OH. They were just married this year, a second marriage for both.

He is 49 NY NY NY, his wife Martha 42 WI NH WI and they have Maggie 18 WI. Martha is widowed here in 1920, 1930 and 1940. I don’t find them in 1900, but they were here someplace. Aaron is a son of John Aaron and Catherine Putman and was at home in Schenectady, New York in 1870 and Schodack, Rensselaer County New york in 1880. Dutch Family.

He is 43 WI NY NY, Helena Maurer his wife of 19 years is 37 WI. He is a son of Gilbert and Catherine Putnam. He was born here, and married here in 1900. Lena is widowed here in 1920. Dutch folks from New York State.

 

ARTHUR C. PUTMAN  Medford, Taylor County

He is 19 WI NY NY, single and works in a drugstore. He lives with his sister Edith Bower 34 WI and her husband August Bower 40 GER. He is a son of Isaac Harper Putman and Emma Smith. He was at home in 1900 in Dane County. I think he is the guy also listed now in Racine.

 

SETH PUTNAM  Arcadia, Trempealeau County

He is 80 VT MA VT and widowed. He lives with his daughter Jessie Farber 38 WI and her husband George Farber 41 WI. He has been here since the 1870s. He was married to Belle Telestra Riggs in 1880 and in 1900. Belle will die April 25, 1901 and Seth December 20, 1916. Think he is a son of John Putnam and Frances Stone of Cabot, Vermont.

 

LESTER G. PUTNAM  Trempealeau, Trempealeau County

He is 37 MN NY MN, and a mail currier. Grace A., his wife of 10 years, is 34 MN, and Gayle a son 4 WI. He is a son of Charles J. Putnam and Harriet Irwin from New York. He was in Winona County Minnesota with them in 1880 and married there in 1900. They were here in 1905 and are still here in 1920.

 

GEORGE W. PUTNAM  Darien, Walworth County

He is 72 VT VT VT, Eliza F. his wife of 45 years now is 64 VT VT VT. They have Harold Doty 15 WI listed as a grandson with them. He is a son of Daniel Putnam (1834) and Rebecca Jane Carlton. He was at home in 1850 and 1860 in Rock County. In 1870 he was still in Rock County and married to Eliza. They were here in 1900, and Eliza will be widowed here in 1920.

She is 56 IL NY NY and divorced. She was here in 1900 and married then to Warren Putnam. She was here with the kids in 1905, but no Warren.

He is 53 WI PA PA (actually IL NY NY). Etta Ann Holister his wife of 24 years is now 44 IL, Ray 22 WI, Pearl 20 WI, Clyde 17 WI, Glenn 14 WI, Leo 10 WI, Leroy 7 WI and Irene 2 WI. He is a son of Frederick and Jane Putman from Linn, Walworth County. He and Etta were married here April 22, 1884. He was at home back in 1860 and 1870. Been here about all his life and will still be here in 1920 and 1930 with Etta and most of the kids.

He is 28 WI NY NY, Lena C. Brandt 30 WI and Howard 3 WI. He was single here in 1905, and has been married to Lena for 4 years. The marriage record reads William Putnam and Lena Brandt November 20, 1906. So Roy must be his middle name. He is a son of George Ward Putman and Maggie Wussaw from here. He will be here in the County in 1920 with Howard and a new wife Sarah from Norway. He and Sarah are in Rock County in 1930.

He is 51 NY ME ME (should read NY NY NY). Margaret Wussaw his second wife of 15 years is 36 WI GER GER, Anabell (Arabella in 1905) 12 WI, Herbert 10 WI, Esther 7 WI. He was here in 1900 and called himself George then. Maybe Ward was a middle name. He was listed as Ward with his folks in 1870 and 1880 though. He is a son of Lafayette and Melissa Putman from Sheboygan County. Lafe was a son of Aaron Putman and was born in Montgomery County New York. Dutch folks. He was married here in 1900. He and Margaret will be here in 1920, but will be separated or divorced then. He will die here July 24, 1921. Margaret will be widowed here in 1930.

He is 34 NY (WI) NY NY, Emma H.  Shaw his wife of 1 year is 25 IL and they have Kenneth N. (Neil) 1/12 WI. He is a son of Gilbert Putman and was with that family in 1880 in Sheboygan County. He was single here in 1900 and 1905. He and Emma are in Oshkosh, Winnebago County in 1920, and then back here by 1930.

 

ABRAHAM L. (LINCOLN) PUTNAM  St. Lawrence Township, Waupaca County

He is 39 WI VT VT. Lillie Orpha Higginbotham his wife of 17 years is 33 WI, Arthur S. 16 WI, Leon 13 WI, George W. 10 WI, another son Lawrence (Gordon Lawrence) 6 WI and a daughter 4/12. He is a clergyman. Hard to read as there are ink blotches all over the page. He is a son of George Washington Putnam and Martha Brewer from Rutland County Vermont. They were in Richland County back in 1860. He was married to Lillie in Dodge County in 1900. She will die and he will marry Evelyn L. Ward in December 1918 here in Wisconsin. They will be in Dewey County South Dakota in 1915 and 1920. Arthur will have his own family then. The son George will be in the Army at Fort Dix in New Jersey in 1920. They are all in Hughes County South Dakota in 1930.

He is 70 IL NY NY, Susan Wheeler, his wife of 38 years, is 76 NY. They live with Susan’s widowed son Edwin Sprague 51 WI and her family. He is a daughter of Susan’s first marriage to a Sprague guy. He first appears in 1850 with his mom and stepfather, so I have no clue as to his real dad. They were in Green Lake County in 1900. Selim will die here in 1912.

She is 72 NY and widowed. She was alone here in 1900, but now has her daughter Lillie E. Cook 51 IA and widowed with her. Still can’t pin her down.

He is listed as Almer 19 WI, single and boarding. He is a son of George and Mary Putman and was home with his folks in Green Bay in 1900. He shines shoes in a shoe shop. He will be married in Milwaukee by 1920.

 

FREDERICK PUTNAM  Oshkosh, Winnebago County

He is 56 WI NY NY. Cynthia Eldridge, his wife of 30 years is 50 WI, George 24 WI, Sadie (Sarah) 17 WI, Grace 14 WI. Also here are their daughter Florence 19 WI and her husband of 2 years George Brigham 27 WI. They were in Wood County in 1900, and Rock County before that. Cynthia is widowed here in 1920. He is a son of David and Elvira Putnam.

 

WINFIELD PUTNAM  Oshkosh, Winnebago County

He is 48 WI MA MA, Mildred Booth, his wife of 5 years now is 38 WI. It is the first marriage for her but there is a record of him marrying Gertrude Kendall in Green Lake County May 3, 1883. There are no children. They are here in 1920 too. He is a son of Horace and Sarah Jane Putnam from Berlin, Green Lake County. He was home in 1870 and 1880, and I don’t find him in 1900, but Gertrude is with her widowed mother Maria Kendall in Green Lake County in 1900. Probably a divorce as in this entry he says this is his first marriage. Guess doesn’t want Mildred to find out bad news.

He is 28 WI WI WI, Cora Mantz his wife of 4 years is 28 WI and their daughter Corliss is 1 3/12 WI. He is a son of Frederick Putnam and Cynthia Eldridge from Wood County. He was home there in 1900. His folks are now also here in Oshkosh. He married Cora in Waupaca County November 28, 1905.

The page is covered with ink. Age hard to be read but 32 WI NY WI is okay. Wife with initials B. K. (Bessie Jadin) and a son Roy 7 or 9 WI. This is a listing for Roy Lloyd Putnam, his wife Bessie Jaden and son Roy E. He is a son of George Ward Putnam and Mary LaPointe. He was born January 6, 1879 in Seymour, Outagamie County and will die in Milwaukee April 19, 1926. He should have a son Lloyd A. and maybe sows on the page that is so hard to read.

Can’t really read the first name or anything else, except it is WI CAN FRA. There are 4 lines under the name. Probably kids looks like Charles, Frank, Something, George. Actually not certain the name is Putnam. This family is listed directly under Roy’s family. May be siblings as Mary has died in 1904 and maybe this is his dad and the V is a W for George Ward and kids. George will die in 1912.

He is 22 US, and an inmate in the Northern Hospital for the Insane. Probably a son of George and Mary Putnam from Green Bay in 1900. His brother is here in town, but not in this place.

LESLIE PUTNAM  De Pere, Brown County

He is Alexander and Rosanna’s son from right here, although his folks were from Canada. He is now 45 WI, Mollie Johnson his wife 45 WI, Merlin 19 WI, Priscilla 15 WI, Lucille 11 WI. Also there is a niece, Margaret Smith 3 11/12 WI. They were here in 1900 and 1910 and will be in 1930. He is a policeman here.

 

ANTON PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 37 WI, his wife Jane Thomas 36 WI, Thomas 15 WI, Lester J. 14 WI, Helen 12 WI, Harold 11 WI, Rose 9 WI, Robert 5 WI, Eleanor 2 WI and Elizabeth Thomas 53 WI, Jane’s mom. The guy in the next listing is his dad. But, neither were listed in 1900. They were here in the State 1905 Census. Maybe the name was spelled differently then. Anton was born here in 1882, and will die in 1953. Jane was born in 1884 and will die in 1977. Lester and Harold are married here by 1930.

 

ANTONE PUTTEMANNS  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 63 BLG, Margaret Ostermann 58 OH, Mary 25 WI. He wasn’t listed in the 1900 index. He will die here in 1929, Margaret in 1940. A descendant says his father was Henry Puttemanns, who brought his family to Wisconsin in about 1858. The have been spelled as Pittmann before. In 1910, he was listed as Thomas Putman here in Green Bay.

 

LEONA PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

She is 32 SD, Margaret 8 WI and John 6 WI. Fortunately I came across a descendant on this family. Leona was married to the above Antone’s son John who died in 1919. Leona will marry George Plant in a couple of years and they and the kids are all here in 1930.

 

ARTHUR L. (LELAND) PUTNAM  Anson, Chippewa County

He is Harper Isaac and Clara Putnam’s son. He is now 29 WI and listed as a hired man with Duncan Cameron. He was here in 1910 as well, but on another farm. He is here in 1930 and then in Gary, Indiana by 1935 and there in 1940.

 

ADELINE PUTNAM  Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County

Julia Adeline Wells is the widow of John B. Putnam and has been here forever. She is now 70 CAN (naturalized in 1854). Her son Emmett S. 43 WI and his wife Keturah Whitman 36 WI are with her. Her husband John just died here August 25, 1919. Emmett and Keturah were here married in 1910. She is here by herself in 1930.

He is 65 NY, Edith Isabella Ehlke his second wife is 27 WI. He was here in 1900. He is a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Emhoff from Jefferson County NY and then in Sparta, Monroe County WI. Dutch family. They are here in 1930.

John and Amanda’s son was here in 1900 and was born here. Anyway, he is now 45 WI, Clara Maude Bangle is 39 WI, Marie 17 WI, Ernest Junior 15 WI, Ivy a son 13 WI, Lyman 11 WI, Margaret 7 WI, Dorothy 5 WI, John 2 9/12 WI and Clara 9/12 WI. He was born April 10, 1875 and will die here May 26, 1927. Clara will marry Clyde Barr and she and the kids are all in Rock County in 1930.

He is a son of John and Amanda and was here with them in 1900. His mother is with him now, dad died November 4, 1917. Russ is 34 WI, Anna Theresa Trader his wife 36 GER, Willard 4 0/12 WI, Melvin 3 1/12 WI. Amanda Nokes Putman is 66 NY. The son Willard was born in 1916 and will die in Whitehall, Trempealeau County in 2003. His wife Hazel was born in 1922 and was alive in 2003.

He is listed as 39 (but it should be 59, poor handwriting) WI and a patient in the local Asylum and Alms House. He is a son of the Eliza Putnam who has been here since the 1870s.

He is 55 USA and a patient in the Asylum and Alms House here. He is still here in 1930. He is a son of the Eliza Putnam who has been here since the 1870s.

She is 24 WI and a domestic with Edward Sholts.

 

CLARK M. (MILTON) PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He was here in 1900 and 1910, and is now 43 NY, Alma Grace Rogers his wife is 39 WI and Grace M. 20 WI. He is the son of Alfred Putnam and Mary Ackerman. He was with them in Eaton County Michigan in 1870 and in Sheboygan in 1880. He has been married here since 1897. Clark will die in Madison March 18, 1931 and is buried in Madison, Wisconsin. Alma was born in Wisconsin September 17, 1878 and will die May 17, 1966 and will be buried by Clark in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison. In 1940 Grace is in Oakland California in a mental hospital or sanitarium.

He is 50 WI, Dorothy Pierson 43 WI, Robert J. 21 WI and Charlotte G. 13 WI. Dorothy and young Robert were in DePere, Brown County in 1900, but her husband was someplace else. Robert is a son of Alexander and Rosanna and was born in DePere.

She is 60 WI and her nephew Victor Frame 19 WI lives with her. Ruth Calloway is George Putnam’s widow. She was here in 1900 and with him in Richland County in 1880. She has been on her own since 1905.

He is 57 WI, Cora Colver 53 WI, Bernie 26 WI, Louis 18 WI and Laura 11 WI. He was here in 1910. The son Bernard Lyle Putman is listed as divorced. Bernie had married Elsie Best, had a son Howard and then she filed for divorce January 10, 1921. Elsie will marry Samuel Edward Clark in about 1922. Bernie will marry Versie Bacon in 1921 (got their license January 10, 1921). They are in Waupun, Dodge County in 1930 and then they are divorced in Fond du Lac by 1940. Allen is a son of Lafayette and Melissa Putman.

Emma Andrews Smith is now 73 NY. Isaac Harper’s wife has been here since the 1850s, but is now widowed.

He is 6 WI and in the local Children’s Home. Lee Percy Putnam is a son of the following Percy Putnam and his first wife Laura Hill. They divorced and Laura took the older daughter Marguerite or Marguareta and abandoned little Lee when she married Gustav Bliesner and moved to Minnesota. In 1940 Lee and his sister Margurite are in the Roxbury part of Boston, Massachusetts

He is 29 CAN NY CAN, Bertha Berg 32 WI NOR NOR, Robert 10 WI CAN MN. There are two step daughters as well, Bertha’s in a previous marriage. They are Luevain Johnstad 10 WI and Arvilla Johnstad 8 WI. He is a conductor on the Street Railway. Also here is Bertha’s brother Rudolph Berg 34 WI NOR NOR. That’s how I got her name. He was married to Laura Hill in 1910 and was in Bayfield County then. Robert is a son of Percy and Laura. They had a divorce as Laura married Gustav Bliesner and they and two of the kids are in Crow Wing County Minnesota now in 1920. Percival Oswald Putnam is a son of Robert Putnam and Margaret Pratt from Benttinick, Grey South, Ontario. He was shown at home in 1891 at age 4 months. Robert was a son Solomon Putnam and Emily Pearson from Wellington North in 1881. He will die June 8, 1929. New England line.

He was here in 1910 and will be in 1930. He is a teamster.

Trader was married to Harry Putman from Colorado and he was a son of James Putman according to their marriage record. But I have no idea who Harry or James was. Louise also goes by Lizzie. I don’t find them before this. She and Bessie are in Chicago, Illinois in 1930 and 1940.

He is 39 WI, Ethel 28 WI and Roger 5 WI. He was single in Madison, Dane County in 1900, and here in 1910. He is a son of Isaac Harper Putnam and Emma Smith from Oregon, Dane County. They are here in 1930.

Putnam in Green County on November 24, 1886, and he has since died. He was Austin Gilman Putnam a son of Ebenezer Putnam (1503) and Tryphena Bassett from Holden, Massachusetts. Austin was single in Monroe Green County Wisconsin in 1880. He had married Sarah Annie McKay back in Worcester, Massachusetts and she died in Holden in 1854. Austin was in New York City in 1870 then here in 1880. Pauline is Sophie Pauline Ruegger and she first married Emanuel Weissmiller on 27 Oct 1870. Oscar Emmet Weissmiller was born 19 Aug 1873. She is here in 1900 through 1930. She’ll be here in 1930 at age 80 and Annie will still be here then too.

He is a metal polisher at a light fixture company.

He was home there in 1850 and in McHenry County Illinois in 1870 and 1880. He was married twice back there. He will die here shortly on November 1, 1920.

They will divorce or just split and his dad is in the U.S. National home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers here in 1922. His dad will be in Chicago soon as he’ll marry Tillie Harrod there January 10, 1923. He will die here in Milwaukee April 19, 1926. This Roy will marry Elise and be someplace in Wisconsin in 1930 and then in Park Falls, Price County in 1940 with Elsie and two kids, one born in 1926.

He was born January 9, 1886 and will die here in Milwaukee December 26, 1960. Martha is a daughter of Ludwig Schoenek and Christine Krause from Germany. She was born May 16, 1888 in Junction City, Wisconsin and will die in Troy, Miami County Ohio December 28, 1968. He was single here in 1910. They are here in 1930 and Martha is here with the kids in 1940 and 1950.

He will be in Finney County Kansas in 1930 with young Grace, but with a new wife Nina Cauvel. He is William Ray Putnam a son of William Putnam and Ida Kenyon from Barton County Kansas. She was living with her son Frank in Chippewa County in 1910. Clara Mandada Mapes married Ephraim Putnam in Chippewa County January 25, 1883 and he died before 1896. Ephraim was a son of Jonathan Putnam (1952) and Mary Stockwell of Bradford, Orange County Vermont.

Mary Dippen or Deuppen is the widow of Harry Putnam from Massachusetts. She is now 56 WI and has her son Parker 33 WI, his wife Edna Drew 38 WI and their son Parker, Jr. 11 WI living with her. Young Parker will be in Washington DC in 1930. Parker and Edna will be separated or something soon. He will be in Freeport, Illinois in 1930 living in the YMCA there. Edna will be here with his mother Mary then.

He is 46 WI, Agnes Margaret Noteware 41 WI, Gaile Osro a son 21 WI and his twin Gladys M 21 WI. The family was in Chippewa County in 1900, and here in 1910. Frank was born in Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County a son of John Putnam and Julia Adeline Wells. They are here and Agnes’ mother Mary age 78 will be with them. The son Gaile is single in Prescott, Pierce County Wisconsin in 1930 and married in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1940.

others here in Shawano County that are Indians as well. He is Joseph Albert Putman, son of John Hamilton Putman. He was single here in 1910 and with his folks in Chickasaw County Iowa in 1900 and Fond du Lac County Wisconsin before that. This county contains the Stockbridge Indian Reservation.

He is listed as an Indian, and is a son of the Fred Putnam who is here too. He was at home with Fred and Della in 1910. He is 25 WI, Hildie Hammer his wife 19 WI, Willard 1 WI. Her mother, Martha Hammer 57 WI, is living with them. They are here in 1930.

The same is true with all the other Putnams in Shawano County except old Fred here. Della is an Indian born up here. Fred is a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. He was there in 1870. He was married to Della in 1900 and they were in Chickasaw County Iowa. They were here in 1910 and are here in 1930. Della is Indian, a sister of the earlier listed Bert Putnam. They were kids of John Hamilton Putman (New York Dutch) and Basheba Brown (New York Indian).

He is the son of George Putnam and Leora DeLine of Harvard, McHenry County Illinois. He was born here in Walworth County Wisconsin, but was back in Illinois and shown there at home in 1900. His folks and family are still back in Harvard.

He is Alexander and Rosana’s son and was born right here. Margaret died June 20, 2009 and in her obit, she says her parents were Leslie and Mollie, so they must have adopted her at some stage. She married Eugene W. Leicht November 25, 1936. He died July 31, 1990. The daughter Lucille will marry Larry LaMarre. Leslie was born here July 6, 1874. He married Mollie here December 21, 1898. She is a daughter of John Johnson and Christina Rickelson and was born April 26, 1874 and will die here in De Pere November 2, 1962. Leslie will die here August 28, 1956. The family came out of Massachusetts right before the Revolution. Leslie and Mollie are here in 1940.

Putnam in Green County on November 24, 1886, and he has since died. He was Austin Gilman Putnam a son of Ebenezer Putnam (1503) and Tryphena Bassett from Holden, Massachusetts. Austin was single in Monroe Green County Wisconsin in 1880. He had married Sarah Annie McKay back in Worcester, Massachusetts and she died in Holden in 1854. Austin was in New York City in 1870 then here in 1880. Pauline is Sophie Pauline Ruegger and she first married Emanuel Weissmiller on 27 Oct 1870. Oscar Emmet Weissmiller was born 19 Aug 1873. She is here in 1900 through 1930.

He is Arnold Louis Putnam, a son of William Herbert Putnam here in town. He was here with the folks in 1910 and 1920, and was born in Wayne County Nebraska November 1, 1900. He married Ruth May 19, 1924. He will die in St. Paul Minnesota in 1987.

Russell was born August 20, 1908, and was just married here November 28, 1929. William Herbert Putnam is a son of Harvey Putnam and Leurinda Amelia Dewey from Utica, Oneida County New York. He was born in Hall Township, Bureau County Illinois September 18, 1857. In 1900, the family was in Wayne County Nebraska. They were here in 1910 and 1920. His son Arnold is married here in town. He will be here till dies October 21, 1949. Laura was born December 5, 1874 and will be here until she dies June 13, 1952.

Charles Prescott Putnam is a son of Willis E. Putnam and Mary L. Jamison. He was born in Rochester, Monroe County New York October 27, 1906 and with his mother in Broome County New York in 1910 and with the whole family in Westminster, Windham County Vermont in 1920. He, Irene and the kids are here in 1940. His dad was from New Hampshire. Irene is a daughter of Julian S. Smolenski and Clemetena or Klemenlyna Pilarski and was born in Janesville, Rock County Wisconsin July 16, 1905 and will die in Appleton, Outagamie County Wisconsin March 15, 1998. Charles will die in Appleton June 16, 1991.

Also here is Lucinda Sprague 58 IL listed as mother and Douglas Johnson 64 IL listed as uncle. Problem child. He pops up in Fulton County Illinois in 1900 as a grandson of Alexander Wilcox (probably Willcoxin as they married several Putmans there). No clue to his folks. I assume Lucinda is indeed his mom, but don’t know who her Putman husband was. But he would belong to the Southern Putman Family like everyone else in Fulton County.

He is 37 WI WI WI and rents a farm. His wife Olive Mary Penniston is 31 WI and they have Marjorie 8, Eveline 6 and Dorothy Irene 4 all WI. He is a son of George and Annie Putnam from Argyle. He was home there through 1920. His brother Charles is here in town too. George was a son of Theron and Elizabeth Putnam from here. Theron was a son of Lewis and Abigail Putman from Victory, Cayuga County New York, and Lewis was a son of Jacob Putman and Sarah Osterhoud from Montgomery County New York. Olive was a daughter of Isaac Penniston and Ellen Lattin. She was born in Wisconsin July 12, 1898 and will die in Benton County Arkansas May 7, 1955. She will be buried in Springfield, Missouri as will her daughter Dorothy. The family moved down there in the 1930s as they are in Barry County Missouri in 1940. The daughter Dorothy Irene was born May 14, 1927 and died in Springfield, Missouri June 28, 1948 of meningitis. She was a cook and never married. Dutch family from New York State.

He is 62 VT VT VT (should be WI VT VT) and his wife Rose T. Lillie (Vernetta McBain up till now) is 61 WI. Israel is a son of George Washington Putnam and Martha Rebecca Brewer and was born in Marshall, Richland County in October 1867. His family was in Wallingford, Rutland County Vermont in 1850 and then here in Dane County Wisconsin by 1860. Israel was at home in Richland County in 1880, and married there in 1900. He married Vernetta Mae McBain there in 1893 and they were there in 1900 and here in Merrill in 1910 and 1920. She was a daughter of James and Mary McBain. I don’t know when she died, but was in the early 1920s as he married Rose here in in 1923 and they were he in the 1930 census. Rose is a daughter of Ransum Lillie and Leila Baird and was born January 22, 1867 in Wausau, Marathon County. She married Samuel A. Thompson in Marathon County April 3, 1895. He died in 1917, and she married Izzy in September 1923. I don’t have a death date/place for either. New England family from Vermont.

He is 14 WI WI WI and he lives with his married sister Vida 29 and her husband John Panik 44 Bohemia. Vida was listed as a granddaughter of George and Mary Putman here in Milwaukee in 1920. No idea what son was her dad, and Arnold never appears before. The 1920 wasn’t indexed very well so he was probably around. A descendant says he was born June 14, 1915. He was convicted of first degree murder and sent to the Rock County Jail on December 1, 1939. He died November 29, 1959 in Green Bay. His death certificate says his folks were George Nelson Putnam and Mary Joubert. His dad would be a son of George and the Mary mentioned here in Milwaukee. In the 1880, they had a son George age 2 then who would likely be his dad. That George is in Gladstone, Delta County Michigan in 1900 and is married to Margaret Joubert. That’s the only time I find them though. Arnold’s brothers Chester and George are nearby in West Allis here in the County.

Anna is a daughter of Albert Kroening and Wilhelminia Hannah Wiskow from Germany. She was born in Wisconsin in 1889 and will die here in Milwaukee in 1988. They were here married in 1920, and will be here all their lives. Dutch Family out of New York State originally.

He is now listed as 49 OR GER GER and his wife Etta Lathrop is 45 WI. They live with her widowed mother Kate Lathrop 69 WI. They were here in 1920 and he said he was born in Germany. Don’t find him in Oregon either.

He is 32 MA MA PA and is an accountant in a soap factory. His wife Marian is 30 VT and they have Gloria 7 WI and Patricia 2 WI. He is a son of Alex Putnam from Worcester, Massachusetts. The whole family was here in 1910. Robert Alexander was born in Worcester February 22, 1899 and will die in Louisville Kentucky September 25, 1941 of respiratory failure. Marian and the kids are there too. He is with Colgate then.

He is 26 WI WI WI. His wife Mary is 21 WI and they have Regina 4 and Ruby 2. His brother George 17 WI is here too. They are sons of George Nelson Putman and Margaret Joubert. The only time I saw them was in 1900 in Delta County Michigan and that was before any of the kids were born. Their brother Arnold is here in Milwaukee as well. By 1940 Mary has married John Sauders and is in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County with the kids.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  West Allis, Milwaukee County

He is 30 NY ENG NY and is an erection engineer. His wife Emily is 29 NY and they have Mary 4/12 WI. They have been married 3 years. John Havens Putnam is a son of Wistar Guernsey Putnam and Margaret Shaver and was born in Massena, St. Lawrence County New York October 26, 1899 and will eventually die in La Crosse, Wisconsin August 18, 1978. They are near here in 1940. Wister was a son of John Havens Putnam and Sophia Guernsey, and was born in Hamilton, Ontario March 12, 1879. They will be here through the 1920 census. His dad was from Tioga County Pennsylvania. John was a son of Jonas Golusha Putnam and a grandson of Archelaus Putnam (1881) and Phebe Parker of Essex County New York. John was a lawyer. New England stock.

 

CLIFFORD J. (JEROME) PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is 24 WI WI WI. His wife Mabel Curnow is 22 WI and Roswell C. 1 WI. He is a son of Jacob Roswell Putman here in town. Dutch like everyone here.

 

ELMER PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is 19 WI WI WI and just married. He works for a lumber company. His wife Irene Shaffer in 19 WI and they have Carl 1/12 WI. Didn’t waste any time. Elmer Eugene is a son of Jacob and Margaret from here in town. He was born April 27, 1910 and will die in Rice County Minnesota July 25, 1992. Irene was born December 31, 1910. They were just married here June 26, 1929.

 

KITTIE PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

She is 34 WI and looks like she is married, but George isn’t around. She is a nurse and has her daughter Mary Ann 6 WI with her. They live with her folks Fred and Minnie Folts. She was married to George Elmer Putman here in 1920.

 

JACOB R. (ROSWELL) PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is now 47 WI NY OH and a rural mail carrier. His wife Margaret A. Young is 46 WI and Naomi 10 WI. He is a son of George Putman and Margaret Brooks and was born here March 4, 1883. Dutch family from New York, like everyone in town. Jacob will die here September 25, 1936 and Margaret will die here June 26, 1934.

 

ROY (ROYCE) PUTMAN  Pontiac, Oakland County

He is 23 WI TN WI (laborer), Elsie Irene Andrus 23 WI WI WI (married age 18) and Arnold 3 WI. He was adopted by Clara (Mapes) Putnam in 1907, but is a son of Henry Benjamin Hodges and Maria Catrina Arpagus. He is listed with Clara in 1910 in Anson, Chippewa County Wisconsin, and in 1920 in Lake, Price County Wisconsin. He and Elsie are in Park Falls, Price County Wisconsin in 1940. He was born February 15, 1907 in Bradley Lincoln County Wisconsin and adopted shortly after that. He married Elsie August 17, 1925 and will die in Ashland Wisconsin November 16, 1986. Elsie is a daughter of Fred and Lillian Andrus. She was born in Bangor, La Crosse County Wisconsin March 20, 1907 and will die in Price County Wisconsin December 17, 1973.

 

HARRY A. ( HARRISON ARTHUR) PUTNAM  Sugar Camp, Oneida County

He is 46 IA and his wife Ella is 43 SD and their son Severn in 16 MN. He is a farmer and they were in Windsor, Stutsman County North Dakota in 1920. He is a son of Frank Harrison Putnam and Ida Langdon. Frank was a son of Harrison Putnam (2790) and Permelia Lovering from Bureau County Illinois. I never find his parents. He was born in Iowa in 1884 and in 1900 was living with his grandparents Ransom and Phoebe Landgon in Civil Bend, Union County South Dakota. He married Ella in 1904 and they were in Sioux City, Iowa in 1910. They adopted two kids around 1920. Severn Buster Mahar and Raymond Lee Mahar. The adopted son Severn is here and the son Raymond will be married in Sioux City, Iowa in 1935 and in Rock Island City, Illinois in 1940. New England family.

 

LYDIA PUTMAN  Seymour, Outagamie County

She is 59 NY and divorced. Interesting the entry read S which was crossed out a D added. At any rate she is a daughter of George and Nancy Putman from here. She was at home here in 1900 and haven’t seen her since. I assume she married someone and then got divorced and took back her maiden name. She is here in 1940 and will die here September 17, 1947. Dutch family out of Onondaga County New York.

 

GAILE PUTNAM  Prescott, Pierce County

He is 31 WI WI WI and single. He is a prescription druggist. Gail Osro Putnam is a son of Frank J. Putnam and Agnes Noteware from Chippewa Falls where he was born May 22, 1898 and was there in 1900 and in Rusk County since then. He will die here in Minneapolis December 6, 1976. In 1940 he is in Minneapolis married to Gertrude who was born June 21, 1908 and will die June 6, 1971. Family came here from Vermont, decided it just wasn’t cold enough for them back East.

 

WILLIAM H. (HUTCHINSON) PUTNAM  River Falls, Pierce County

He is 70 WI CT CT and his wife Martha Foster is 63 WI. Her sister Bertha Foster 56 WI is with them. He owns his farm and works it. He is a son of John Day Putnam and Catherine Lovell, and was with them in St. Croix County in 1860. William married Mattie L. Foster in River Falls, Wisconsin on May 21, 1890. He was the city treasurer here in River Falls. He will die here December 24, 1939 and Mattie is widowed here with Bertha in 1940.

 

LAFAYETTE PUTMAN  Stevens Point, Portage County

He is 54 NY widowed and has his son Leslie 12 WI with him. He was married to Mary Henke and they were here in 1920, but the son Leslie wasn’t there with them then and I can’t find him in 1920 anyplace. Lafayette George Putman is a son of Lafayette Putman and Melissa Phillips. He was born in Scott, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin September 8, 1875 and will die in Scott February 20, 1964.

 

EDWIN PUTMAN  Racine, Racine County

He is 60 WI OH OH and a millwright in a factory. His wife Tillie is 55 WI and they have Arden 28, Verna 24 and Grace 16 all WI. He is Jacob Putman and Mary Marr’s son. He was in Waukesha County in 1900 and Green Lake County in 1910 and here in 1920. Dutch family out of New York State.

 

ORA E. (EDWARD) PUTMAN  Racine, Racine County

He is 30 WI WI WI and is an assembler at a radiator plant. He has been married five years to Anna A. 23 WI DEN DEN. He is a son of Edwin and Matilda Putman here in Racine.

 

PRISCILLA PUTMAN  Racine, Racine County

She is 25 WI WI WI single and a public school teacher. She is a daughter of Leslie Putnam from De Pere Brown County.

 

THURLOW PUTMAN  Racine, Racine County

He is 21 WI WI WI and married a year to Anna 20 IL. He is an assembler at a motor factory. He is a son of Edwin Putman and was in Green Lake County in 1910 and here with his folks in 1920. Dutch family.

 

EUGENE PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

He is now 54 WI and widowed as Marie Carls has died since 1920. At home are his son John Eugene 19 WI and divorced daughter Lillian Reaves 29 IL and her daughter Beverly 3 WI. He is a son of Sylvester and Laura Putnam from here. He was in Monroe County in 1920 and here before that.

 

NELSON J. PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

He is now 66 NY NY NY and is a builder. His wife Cora May Hunter is 57 ME and they have Sheldon 19, Rose 21 and Nancy 32 all WI. He is a son of George and Nancy. He was home in Outagamie County in 1880 and in Brown County in 1900, and back in Seymour, Outagamie County in 1910 and here in 1920 and his mother was still with him. Dutch family out of Onondaga County New York.

 

NELSON & OTHER PUTNAMS  Beloit, Rock County

Nelson is 9 WI, Charles 8 WI, Wayne 7 WI and Beverly 5 WI. They are listed as children of Ward and Maggie Smith who are listed in their 20s. The above Nelson had a son Nelson who is their dad. Nelson is presently in Fort Bayard, Grant County New Mexico and is a patient but not in a hospital. In 1940, these kids are listed as children of Acenith Putnam, a daughter of Herbert and Caroline Smith.

 

WILLIAM R. (ROY) PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

He is 48 WI NY NY and owns a farm. His second wife Sarah is 40 Norway. He is a son of George Ward Putman and Maggie Wussaw from Waukesha County. He first appears in Waukesha County next to his folks in 1910 and calls himself Roy with a wife Lena from Wisconsin. In 1920 he was there with Sarah.

 

DANIEL C. (CARLTON) PUTNAM  Bradford, Rock County

He is 57 WI VT VT and widowed. His son Carlton is 21 WI. He owns a farm and is a son of Jesse Carlton Putnam from Vermont. Dan was born right here, and has been married to Lillie Ryan since 1906.

 

STEPHEN PUTMAN  Evansville, Rock County

He is 36 WI US WI and a cobbler in a shoe shop. His wife Elizabeth M. Collins is 39 WI. They have been married 8 years. He was here with his widowed and remarried mother Carrie in 1900 and 1920. His dad was Albert Putman. The only Albert that would have been the right age was Jacob Putman and Mary Jane Marr’s son from Waushara County as shown in 1880. That’s a Dutch Putman line from New York State and undoubtedly why Steve’s name is Putman. Steve was born August 7, 1893 and will die here March 28, 1980. Elizabeth was born in 1891 and will die here in December 1942.

 

ERNEST W. (WESLEY) PUTNAM  Janesville, Rock County

He is 24, his brother Lyman 22, Margaret 19, Dorothy 18 and John 12 all WI WI WI. They all work in the Fisher Auto Body Company here in town. They are children of Ernest Putman from Mentor, Clark County. They were there in 1920. Then he died in 1927 and their Mother Clara Maude Bangle married Clyde Barr June 1, 1929. She is here at 49 WI but he’s out in Dawson County Montana and she is listed there but ‘absent.’ Ernest has also just married Gladys Barr from Montana, and she is back in Beaverhead County Montana living at her parents. Ernest will be out there later and stay till he dies in 1965 in Butte Montana. She will be back in Mentor and die there in 1956. Dutch family from Jefferson County New York.

 

IVY (IVAN VICTOR) PUTMAN  Janesville, Rock County

He is 26 WI WI WI and widowed with a daughter Loraine 1 WI. He was single with his folks Ernest Putman and Clara Maude Bangle back in Clark County. Gotta question the widowed thing though. He married Dorothy Fern Johnson on September 26, 1926 and I guess they got back together as when Dorothy was born March 30, 1907 and died here March 3, 1966, her obituary says she was married to Ivan Putman since 1926. He was born April 12, 1906 and died here May 21, 1961. So looks like Dorothy kinda took off for a bit and then came back forever. He works for the Fisher Auto Body Company here in town as a stitcher. They made General Motors cars for Chevrolet and Cadillac back then and up through the 1960s. The daughter Loraine Arlene was born October 27, 1927 and died December 21, 1994. She married Raymond Hanson August 9, 1947. Dutch folks out of Jefferson County New York.

 

MARY PUTNAM Janesville, Rock County

She is 66 WI. She is the widow of Harry Putnam from Massachusetts. They were here up till 1910 and she was widowed in 1920. She has her daughter in law Edna 47 WI with her. Edna Drew was married to Parker Putnam who is presently in Stephenson County Illinois living in a YMCA. He says he is divorced, Edna says she is married. Edna’s here in 1940 and ‘widowed’.

 

FRANK J. PUTNAM  Ladysmith, Rusk County

He is 55 WI VT CAN and a yard manager for a lumberyard. His wife Agnes Margaret Noteman is 51 WI, their daughter Gladys is 29 WI and Agnes’ widowed mother Mary Noteman is 78 MA. The family was in Chippewa County in 1900 and here in 1910. Frank was born in Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County a son of John Putnam and Julia Adeline Wells. They were here in 1920.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  Delton, Sauk County

He is 46 MI US US and owns his farm. His wife Mamie is 32 IA OH OH, and they have Arnold 6 WI and Melvin 1 WI. The son Melvin was born May 18, 1928 and will die in Sauk County August 18, 2000. His wife Marjorie was born December 26, 1927 and was alive when he died in 2000.

 

ELORD PUTNAM  Red Springs, Shawano County

He is 35 WI Mixed Stockbridge. Actually his dad Fred is white and his mom is Indian. Stockbridge is the Tribe’s reservation. His wife Hildie Hammer is 29 WI of mixed parents. They have Willard 10 WI and Oakland 8 WI.

 

FREDERICK PUTNAM  Red Springs, Shawano County

He is 65 IL NY NY and he owns a farm. His wife Della May Putman is 67 WI and they have Melmuth 27 IA, Wesley 25 IA and a grandson Emeral 18 WI. Emeral would be a son of Fred’s son Stephen or Elrod who were here with him in 1910 and have their own families here in 1930. Fred is listed as white, the rest as Indians. They were here in 1920. This whole County is pretty much an Indian Reservation and has been for ages. Fred is a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. He was there in 1870, and married to Della in Iowa in 1900. Della is a daughter of John  Hamilton Putman (Dutch) and Basheba Brown (Indian). Fred and Della were here in 1910 and 1920.

 

STEPHEN PUTNAM  Red Springs, Shawano County

Another son of Fred and Della. He is 38 WI and Mixed and all that. He has a new wife of three years, Thelma 28 WI who is also mixed blood. They have Beryl 9 and Vergie 8 from his first marriage to Arvella. Then they have Ramona 1 WI together.

 

MARTHA PUTMAN  Shawano, Shawano County

She is 62 WI and widowed. She was widowed here in 1920. She was married to Aaron Putman here in 1910. Aaron was a son of John Aaron and Catherine Putman and was at home in Schenectady, New York in 1870 and Schodack, Rensselaer County New york in 1880. Dutch Family.

She is here in 1940 too.

 

HELENA  PUTNAM  Greenbush, Sheboygan County

She is 57 WI GER GER and still widowed. Helena Maurer was married to George Putnam here in 1900 and 1910 and widowed here in 1920. George was a son of Gilbert and Catherine Putnam. He was born here.

 

MARVIN PUTMAN  Plymouth, Sheboygan County

He is 23 WI WI MI and his wife Mary Ann Trowbridge is 24 WI. They live with her brother Theo Trowbridge. He works for the electric company. He is a son of Russell Putman and Ida Wolfe from Oconto County.

 

RAYMOND PUTNAM  Sheboygan, Sheboygan County

He is 30 WI WI WI and is the owner of a radiator repair shop. His wife of 10 years Elda Martha Liebner is 27 WI. They have Robert 9 WI and Betty 8 WI. Raymond Walter Putnam is a son of Arthur Putnam from Milwaukee. He was single there in 1920.

 

GEORGE A. PUTNAM  Maplehurst, Taylor County

He is 57 WI NY MA and owns his farm. His wife Anna Metzger is 52 WI. He is Cyrus’ son and was in Clark County in 1900 and 1910 and then here in 1920. They never had any children.

 

LESTER PUTNAM  Trempealeau, Trempealeau County

He is 58 MN NY MN and is a mail carrier on a rural route. His wife Grace is 54 MN. He is a son of Charles and Harriet Putnam from New York. He was in Winona County Minnesota in 1880 and 1900, and married here in 1910 and 1920. He is widowed in Long Beach, California in 1940.

 

ELIZA J. (JANE) PUTNAM  Darien, Walworth County

She is now 84 VT and widowed. She is Eliza the widow of George W. Putman also from Vermont. They were here in 1900 and 1910, and she was widowed here in 1920.

 

GLENN C. PUTMAN  Darien, Walworth County

He is 35 WI WI IL and a farmer. His wife Martha is 37 WI. She had been married before and has a daughter Eva Rockwell 15 WI. They have been married 11 years. He is a son of James Monroe Putman from here.

 

JAMES M. (MONROE) PUTMAN  Darien, Walworth County

He is now 75 IL NY NY and owns a farm. His wife Etta Ann Hollister is 63 IL and Clyde M. 36 WI. He is a son of Frederick & Jane Putman from here. He has been here since the late 1850s, but was born across the border in McHenry County Illinois. He is widowed in 1940 living with his son Roy who is married then.

 

ROY C. PUTNAM  Darien, Walworth County

He is 27 WI WI WI and single. He is a son of James Monroe Putman and was with the family here in 1920. He will marry Eva Rockwell in Rockford, Winnebago County on December 24, 1930 and they are here with kids in 1940.

 

MARGARET PUTNAM  Waukesha, Waukesha County

She is 55 WI and widowed. She is living with her married daughter Esther 29 WI and her husband Emmett J. Shuff. Margaret Wussaw is the widow of George Ward Putman. She and Esther were with him in Oconomowoc in 1900 and 1910, and she was living with the Shuffs here in 1920 after being separated or getting divorced. He died here in 1921. She is still here in 1940 with the Shuffs. Dutch family from New York.

 

ELLA PUTNAM  Iola, Waupaca County

She is 36 WI and widowed. She still has Robert 14 WI WI WI, and lives with her parents Christian and Amelia Strand as she was in 1920.

 

GILES H. (HENRY) PUTMAN  New London, Waupaca County

He is 53 WI NY NY. His wife Emma Shaw is 44 IL and they have Neil K. 20, Seth N. 19, and Robert R. 13 all WI. Emma’s sister Adela Shaw is with them. He is Gilbert and Catherine’s son, and was home with them in 1880 in Sheboygan County. In 1900 he was in Waupaca County and married there in 1910. They were in Oshkosh in 1920. He is the postmaster here in town. Emma will die here June 24, 1934. He will die here July 15, 1943.

 

ARTHUR R. PUTNAM  Oshkosh, Winnebago County

He is 45 WI WI WI and a bus driver for the power and light company. I think that is probably an electric trolley that was popular in cities back then. Called them street railroads. His wife Cora Mantz is 46 WI and they have Corliss 21, Loraine 18 and Donald C. 13 all WI. He is a son of Fred Putnam and Cynthia Eldridge. He was with them in Wood County in 1900 and here since 1910.

 

GEORGE C. (CLINTON) PUTNAM  Oshkosh, Winnebago County

He is 44 WI WI WI and is a bus driver for the Power and Light Company.  His wife Cora Fink is 38 WI and they have Eleanor O. 18, Lester O. 11, Lorna L. 3 and Verna E. 1 all WI. He is a son of Fred and Cynthia and was with them in Wood County in 1900 and has been here since 1910. They will divorce shortly. Cora and the kids are here in 1940.

 

WINFIELD S. (SCOTT) PUTNAM  Oshkosh, Winnebago County

He is 68 WI CT CT and is a traveling salesman for periodicals. His wife Mildred A. Booth is 58 WI. He is a son of Horace and Sarah Jane Putnam from Berlin, Green Lake County. He was home in 1870 and 1880 and here since then.
