WISCONSIN 1940 CENSUS

 

C. J. (CLYDE JAY) PUTNAM  Oak Grove, Barron County

He is 43 WI VT WI. His wife Beatrice Ethel Slagle is 37 MN and they have Paul R. 12 WI and Dorothy 6 WI. His brother Arthur 49 WI is living with them now. He is a dairy farmer. He first showed up in 1900 here with his widowed mother Clara. They were in Chippewa County in 1910 and in Price County in 1920. Clara Mandada Mapes married Ephraim Putnam in Chippewa County January 25, 1883 and he died before 1896. Ephraim was a son of Jonathan Putnam (1952) and Mary Stockwell of Bradford, Orange County, Vermont. Clyde was born in Chippewa County August 17, 1896. Beatrice is a daughter of Charles and Emma Slagle and was born in Minnesota May 25, 1902 and she will die in Rice Lake, Barron County March 1, 1980. His brother Arthur Clair Putnam says he is single, but was married to Hazel Lea May

 

ANTON PUTMAN  De Pere, Brown County

He is 58 WI BELG WI and is a painting contractor. His wife Jane Thomas is 56 WI and they have Thomas 36 WI and Eleanor 22 WI. Also here is a grandson Thomas Elfert 12 WI. Anton Henry was born here February 28, 1882, a son of Antone Puttemanns and Margaret Osterman. He will be here till he dies October 16, 1953, Jane in March 1977.

 

CARRIE PUTNAM  De Pere, Brown County

She is 84 WI and still widowed. Caroline Wright is the second wife and widow of Prescott Putnam from here. She is still living with her son from her first marriage Louis Scheuring 62 WI. New England line that went up into Nova Scotia before heading out here.

 

ENSOR PUTMAN  De Pere, Brown County

He is 34 WI WI WI and is a machinist at a machine shop. His wife Pearl is 39 WI and they have Fay Marie 15 WI. Ensor Orson is a son of Orson Andrew Putman and Anna Nelson from Sturgeon Bay. He was born there September 25, 1895 and was there up until 1910. He will die here in De Pere March 6, 1969. Dutch family from Herkimer County New York.

 

LESLIE PUTNAM  De Pere, Brown County

He is 66 WI and his wife Mollie Johnson is 66 WI. He is an assistant Chief of Police here. He is a son of Alexander Putnam and Rosanna Redman from Nova Scotia and was born here July 6, 1874. He married Mollie here December 21, 1898. She is a daughter of John Johnson and Christina Rickelson and was born April 26, 1874 and will die here in De Pere November 2, 1962. Leslie will die here August 28, 1956. The family came out of Massachusetts right before the Revolution.

 

ANTON PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is a painting contractor 58 WI and his wife Jane Thomas is 56 WI. Thomas 36 WI and Eleanor 22 WI are still at home. Anton Henry Putman is a son of Antone Thomas Puttemanns and Margareta Ostermann and was born here in Green Bay February 28, 1882 and will die here October 16, 1953. His dad was from Belgium. Jane was born here and will die in Green Bay March 20, 1977. The son Thomas was born here April 14, 1904 and will die August 17, 1976 in Appleton, Outagamie County. He will marry Myrtle Zelma Carrow October 20, 1945. Myrtle is a daughter of Louis John Carrow and Minna Louise Therese Miller and was born in Oshkosh September 1, 1906 and will die also in Appleton May 2, 2004.

 

CLAUDE PUTNAM  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 54 WI, his wife Julia Haver is 48 WI and they have Elmer 24 WI and Bernard 21 WI still single and at home. Then they have their now married daughter Ruth Abhold 29 WI and her husband Albert Abhold 29 WI. Then there is their son Earl Raymond 23 WI and his wife Edith Marie Goddard 17 WI. And then, their married daughter Lorraine 19 WI and her husband William John Pitsch 24 WI and a newborn daughter Diana Pitsch. Lastly Julia’s sister Bernice Haver 38 WI is living here in what must be a 50-room house or Hotel or something. He is a carpenter with a construction company. Claude William Putnam is a son of George Ward Putman and Mary LaPointe, and was with the family in Green Bay in 1900. They were in Outagamie County in 1920, and back here in 1930. Claude was born in Seymour, Outagamie County March 9, 1886 and will die here in Green Bay December 31, 1941. Julia is a daughter of Albert Haver and was born in Seymour April 14, 1892 and will die in Neenah, Wisconsin December 7, 1959. Dutch family from New York State.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is an exterminator for a cleaning company and is 26 WI and living with his mother Leona now 53 SD as he has since 1920. Leona was married to Anton Puttman’s son John who died here in 1919. She married George Plont about 1922 and is with him now. John has a new wife Ellen Mildred Murray 28 IA. This is a family from Belgium. John Emil Puttman was born in Sheboygan August 24, 1913 and will die out in Roseburg, Douglas County Oregon April 29, 1990. Mildred was born in Bloomington, Illinois November 11, 1910 and will die out in Roseburg October 9, 1997.

 

LESTER PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 34 WI, his wife Lucille Margaret Budzis is 33 WI and they have John 11 WI, Sally 7 WI and Judy 2 WI. He is a repair pump contractor. He is a son of Anton Putman and Jane Thomas from here. He was born here August 10, 1905 and will die in Green Bay March 13, 1981. Lucille was born in Green Bay February 24, 1907 and will die here August 22, 1991.

 

ROBERT PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 25 WI and his wife Dorothy is 21 WI. He is a son of Anton Henry Putman and Jane M. Thomas from here. He was born here November 29, 1914 and will die in March 1972.

 

ARCHIE L. (LEROY) PUTNAM  Chippewa Falls City, Chippewa Falls County

He is 54 WI and his wife Clara Mae Sanderson is 62 WI. They were married here June 6, 1910 and have been here ever since. He is secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. He is a son of John Putnam and Julia Adeline Wells and was born here May 12, 1885. Clara was born in 1879 and will die here January 26, 1975. Archie will die here March 5, 1958. His line goes back into Orange County Vermont then Lyndeborough, New Hampshire and Salem, Massachusetts before that.

 

EDITH PUTMAN  Chippewa Falls City, Chippewa Falls County

She is 48 WI and widowed. Her sister Rose Elkie 58 WI is with her. Edith Isabella Ehlke was married to William Putman here in 1930. Her sister Rose and mother Tracey Ehlke were here then too. She was William’s second wife and he was 65 NY in 1920 and she was only 27. William was a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Emhoff from Jefferson County New York and then in Sparta, Monroe County Wisconsin. They were here in 1920 and 1930. She will still be here in 1950. Dutch family out of New York State.

 

RUSS PUTMAN  Mentor, Clark County

He is 58 WI NY NY and is a church janitor. His wife Anna Theresa Trader is 57 GER and they have Arthur 20 WI still at home. He is a son of John Putman and Amanda Nokes and was born here. Dutch family. He is a farmer and will be around till he dies in 1952.

 

W. N. (WILLARD NICHOLAS) PUTMAN  Mentor, Clark County

He is listed as Wm. Puttman. But is Willard not William. He is 24 WI and his wife Helen Josephine Michaels is 23 WI. He is a son of Russell Putman and Anna Theresa Trader listed above, and was born here December 6, 1915 and will die here August 21, 1997. He married Helen here June 20, 1939. They are here with kids in 1950.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Sherman, Clark County

He is 71 WI and widowed. His son Frank Donald Putman 23 WI is at home with him. Frank Herbert Putnam is a farmer and a son of Orin Putnam and Elizabeth Lane from Winnebago County. He was there in 1900 and married to Ella M. Schofield in Marathon County in 1910 and 1920 and here in 1930. New England family that went to Broome County New York and then out here in the 1860s.

 

HARPER G. PUTNAM  Portage, Columbia County

He is 32 WI, his wife Rosalyn 25 WI and they have Carole 4 WI. He is a son of John and Mary Putnam and was born in Waupun, Fond du Lac County and was there in 1910 and then in Madison, Dane County through 1935. He is a traveling salesman of electrical supplies. His dad was a son of Isaac Harper Putman from Dane County. Pretty sure that is the Dutch Putman line out of New York State.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Wyocena Village, Columbia County

He is 70 WI still single and still an inmate in the County Poor House and Asylum. He first appears with his widowed and remarried mother Eliza here in 1880. He has been an inmate here since 1910. No ideas on his dad except he was born in New York.

 

FANNIE PUTNAM  De Forest, Dane County

She is 73 WI and widowed. She is an aunt with Laurence and Gladys Priestly and has been in Lafayette County before this. Fannie Lou Stott was married to William Arthur Putman in Darlington, Lafayette County in 1900 and has been widowed there since he died September 24, 1904. William was a son of Theron and Elizabeth Putnam from here. Fanny is a daughter of John Stott and Sarah Crockett. She was born in Grant County July 4, 1866 and will die back in Darlington September 3, 1947. New England Dutch family.

 

JOHN R. PUTMAN  Madison, Dane County

He is now 68 WI NY NY and retired. His wife Mary is 64 WI. He is a son of Isaac Harper Putman and Emma Andrews and was born here. Think he’s Dutch, but not certain.

 

ROBERT PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 70 WI and his wife Dorothy Ziersen is 63 WI. He is a retired city policeman. Been here since about 1900. He is a son of Alexander Putnam and was born in De Pere, Brown County. Robert was born November 23, 1869 in De Pere, Brown County Wisconsin and will die May 31, 1950. He married Dorothy February 3, 1898. Dorothy was born May 9, 1875 in Brown County and will die November 8, 1950. New England family that went up to Nova Scotia and some came down here, most stayed up there.

 

ROBERT PUTNAM (JR.)  Madison, Dane County

He is 41 WI and his wife Anne Hefty is 35 SWITZ and they have Mary Anne 6 WI and Patricia 4 WI. He is a son of Robert and Dorothy Putnam listed above. He was born in Brown County and was here with his folks in 1920 and just married to Anne here in 1930, and they are here in 1950. He is an automobile insurance agent.

 

WILLARD PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 28 WI and his wife Mary Elizabeth O’Brien 24 WI and they have Patricia 8/12 WI. He is still living with his widowed mother Mary Ellen 69 WI. He is a lawyer for an industrial company. Willard Henry Putnam is a son of William Hollis Putman and Mary Ellen Devitt and was born here March 8, 1912. He married Betty August 20, 1938. She was a daughter of William Edward O’Brien and Kathryn N. Wall and was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin September 11, 1915. She will die here in Madison September 12, 2006. Willard will die here of cancer February 10, 1994. Dutch Putman family out of New York State.

 

NORMA PUTNAM  Shorewood Hills, Dane County

She is 19 WI and a maid for the Meehan family. She is a daughter of Ray and Rose Putnam and was with them in Fitchburg, Dane County in 1930. Her folks got divorced and I guess she found a place to stay. German Buttman family out of Pennsylvania.

 

LESTER PUTNAM  Sun Prairie, Dane County

He is 35 OH, his wife Pearl Marie Southard is 35 OH and they have Donald 16 OH, Helen 15 OH, Dale 11 WI, Yvonne 9 WI, Glynn 6 WI, Lois 4 WI, Treva 2 WI and Rollie 3/12 WI. He works in a porcelain plant. Lester Dean Putnam is a son of Allen Clark Putnam and Eliza Nye from Hancock County Ohio where he was born December 31, 1901 and then Wyandote County where he married Pearl December 20, 1922. They were around here in 1930 but I don’t find them yet.

 

ANNIE PUTMAN  Westport, Dane County

She is 73 WI and widowed. She is a patient at the Mendota State Hospital for the Insane. Probably has dementia, as she has been fine up till now. Annie Reed was married to George Putman in Lafayette County through 1920 and widowed there in 1930. George was a son of Theron and Elizabeth Putnam from here. Dutch family from New York State.

 

ARNOLD W. PUTNAM  Waupun, Dodge County

He is 24 WI single and locked up in the Wisconsin State Prison. In 1930 he was in Milwaukee living with his married sister Vida Panik. Vida was listed as a granddaughter of George and Mary Putman here in Milwaukee in 1920. No idea what son was her dad, and Arnold never appears before. The 1920 wasn’t indexed very well so he was probably around. A descendant says he was born June 14, 1915. He was convicted of first-degree murder and sent to the Rock County Jail on December 1, 1939. He died November 29, 1959 in Green Bay. His death certificate says his folks were George Nelson Putnam and Mary Joubert. His dad would be a son of George Ward Putman and the Mary LaPointe mentioned in Milwaukee. In the 1880, they had a son George age 2 then who would likely be his dad. That George is in Gladstone, Delta County Michigan in 1900 and is married to Margaret Joubert. That’s the only time I find them though. This is a Dutch Putman family out of New York State.

 

HERBERT G. (GEORGE) PUTMAN  Liberty Grove, Door County

He is 61 WI, his wife Ella Larson 54 WI. He is a son of Alonzo Sylvester Putnam and Lucretia Catherine Johnson and was born in Sturgeon Bay, Door County Wisconsin September 16, 1888. Alonzo was a son of John Putman and Sarah Barbara Wead from Herkimer County New York. Herb and Ella had been in Chicago since the 1920s and then in Cook County, Minnesota in 1935 and 1940. He will die November 12, 1953 in Portland Oregon and be buried back here Sturgeon Bay. Ella was born here in Ellison Bay Door County October 14, 1895 and will die here in Ellison Bay on January 8, 1975. New York Dutch family.

 

JACK D. PUTMAN  Sister Bay, Door County

He is 26 WI, his wife Greta L. is 21 WI and they have David L. 1 MN. He is a sailor with the Merchant Marines. He is a son of Herbert G. Putman and Ella Larson from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Then they were in Chicago in 1920 and 1930 and John here was in Wilmette just outside Chicago in 1935. They are in Winnebago County in 1950. His dad was a son of Alonzo Sylvester Putman and Lucretia Johnson from Kane County Illinois and Fulton County New York before that. Dutch Putman family.

 

LUCILLE PUTNAM  Sister Bay, Door County

She is 48 WI and widowed. There was a Lucille Putnam the right age only born MI in Kewaunee County in 1930. She was married to Max Putnam in Lenawee County Michigan in 1920. They were divorced by 1930. She fits, and the initials WI and MI look alike in handwriting. Also Sister Bay is right across Lake Michigan from Empire, Michigan where she was living in 1920.

 

BERTHA PUTNAM  Superior City, Douglas County

She is 52 WI and widowed. Her son Percy Orrin is 19 WI. Bertha Berg was married to Percy Putnam here in 1920 with 2 daughters from an earlier marriage to a Johnstad man. She was widowed here with Orrin in 1930. Percival Oswald Putnam was born in Canada. He was a son of Robert Putnam and Margaret Pratt from Benttinick, Grey South, Ontario. He was shown at home in 1891 at age 4 months. Robert was a son Solomon Putnam and Emily Pearson from Wellington North in 1881. New England line.

 

ELMER T. (THEODORE) PUTNAM  Superior City, Douglas County

He is 29 WI, his wife Angeline Louise De Cook is 26 ND and they have Patricia Ann 2 WI. He is a filling station attendant at a gas station. He is a son of William Herbert Putnam and Laura Christine Larson and was born here September 28, 1910. He married Angeline here August 28, 1937. She was born in Straubville, North Dakota July 23, 1913 and will die in North Dakota October 19, 1990. Elmer will die in North Dakota December 3, 1981. New England line from Massachusetts Brattleboro, Vermont to Oneida County New York Bureau County Illinois and here.

 

WILLIAM H. (HERBERT) PUTNAM  Superior City, Douglas County

He is 82 IL and his wife Laura Christine Larson is 64 MI. He is a son of Harvey Putnam and Leurinda Dewey from Utica, Oneida County, New York. William was born in Hale Township, Bureau County, Illinois. In 1900, the family was in Wayne County, Nebraska and then here since about 1907. New Englanders.

 

JOHN PUTNAM  Alto Township, Fond du Lac County

He is 36 WI single and lodging with a McDowell family. Says he was here in 1935 and then in Antarctica before that. He’s a teacher. No Clues.

 

BERNARD PUTNAM  Ripon Township, Fond du Lac County

He is 47 WI divorced and living with Frank and Mabel Zwolski. He is a barber in a barbershop. He was married to Vergie Bacon in Waupun, Dodge County in 1930. She is here in town as is their daughter Dorothy, but all are living separately. Whole family just blew up and split. This was his second marriage and second divorce, and his last. He won’t try it again. Bernard is a son of Allen Freemont Putnam and Cora Benway Calvert. He was born in Rock County March 5, 1893 and will die in Madison, Dane County February 15, 1964. Dutch family out of Montgomery County New York.

 

DOROTHY PUTNAM  Ripon Township, Fond du Lac County

She is 20 WI single and lodging with Rinehold and Frances Zahn and their family. She is a daughter of Bernard and Vergie Putnam and was in Dodge County with them in 1930. They divorced and her folks are also here in town living separately.

 

VERGIE PUTNAM  Ripon Township, Fond du Lac County

She is 39 WI and divorced. She is living with Ira and Edna McLain. Vergie Bacon was married to Bernard Lyle Putnam in Waupun, Dodge County in 1930. Bernard is a son of Allen Freemont Putnam and Cora Benway Calvert. Bernie is also here in town lodging with a Zowlski family. Her daughter Dorothy is here in Ripon but with a Zahn family. Vergie is a daughter of Donn Franklin Bacon and Erma Rowe. She will marry Gordon Schlinske in 1941. She will die June 24, 2004 at the nice old age of 103 years.

 

CLAUDE PUTNAM  Waupun, Fond du Lac County

He is 59 WI NY NY and a machinist in a knitting mill. His wife Ethel C. Olson is 48 WI and they have Lois A. 11 WI still at home. Ethel’s single sister Olive Olson 61 WI is with them. Ethel’s brother Mervin Olson and his family live next door as well. He is a watchman at a shoe factory. He was single in Madison, Dane County in 1900, and here in 1910 and 1920. He is a son of Isaac Harper Putnam and Emma Andrews from Oregon, Dane County.

 

CLARA R. (RICHARDSON) PUTNAM  Brodhead City, Green County

She is 89 WI and still widowed. Clara Richardson married Henry Clay Putman here June 3, 1907 and was with him in 1910 and was widowed here since he died here July 7, 1913. Clara still has her daughter, Marjory Claycomb 51 IA, from her first marriage with Granville Franklin Claycomb who died here in 1905. Henry was a son of John Jacob Putman and Mary Magdalene Fleek out of Hampshire County Virginia, now called Mineral County a part of West Virginia after the Civil War. German Butman family that came over in the early 1700s.

 

MATT C. (MATHEW CARPENTER ) PUTNAM  Brodhead City, Green County

He is 61 WI OH WI and is now retired from his meat market. His wife Carrie Patterson is 62 IL. He is a son of Oliver Shakespeare Putnam and Alice Malvina Copp was born here February 24, 1879. He was married to Carrie here in 1910 and 1920. German family from Virginia and then Ohio.

 

GERTRUDE PUTNAM  Berlin, Green Lake County

She is 77 WI and now says widowed rather that divorced as she states in past years. Gertrude Kendall married Winfield Scott Putnam here in 1883 and they were here in 1895 and separated ever since. She has been here in 1905 and lists herself as divorced then. Winfield and his wife Mildred Booth were in Oshkosh in 1930.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Jefferson City, Jefferson County

He is 11 WI and an inmate at St. Coletta Institute for the feeble minded. He was in Williams Bay, Walworth County in 1935, but canմ find in 1930.

 

RAY PUTNAM  Jefferson City, Jefferson County

He is 48 WI and divorced. He has a divorced gal Loretta Esselstyn 49 WI who was listed as wife then crossed out and housekeeper was written over it. Sounds like he is shaking up with another hot little thing. Raymond Earl is a son of Allen Freemont Putnam and Cora D. Calvert. He was born December 13, 1891 in Union County, and was in Rock County with his folks in 1900 and in Dane County in 1910. He was married to Rose in Dane County in 1930. His son Stanley is here in town and says he was in Cheyenne County Colorado in 1935 so that’s probably where Rose was. His dad was a son of Lafayette and Melissa Putman from New York. Dutch family.

 

STANLEY PUTNAM  Jefferson City, Jefferson County

He is 28 WI (listed 26 but no) and his wife Blanche is 27 WI. He is a son of Raymond Putnam listed above and Rose who divorced him. He was in Kit Carson, Cheyenne County Colorado in 1935. Probably where his mother went after divorcing his dad Ray who is also here in Jefferson. He works in a meat packing plant like his dad does, probably same one.

 

CHARLES H. (HAMILTON) PUTNAM  Wyota, Lafayette County

He is 42 WI WI WI and rents a farm. His wife Ethel Viola Tixrod is 33 WI and they have Charlene M. 14 WI, David W 12, Robert 10 WI, Charles H. 8 WI, Arthur 6 WI, and Carol A. 3 WI. He is a son of George Putnam and Annie Reed from Argyle, Lafayette County. He was home there through 1920. They are spelled and indexed as Putnum and I missed him on this entry back 10 years, but found him now. They are here in 1950 and spelled properly.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Kenosha, Kenosha County

He is 33 NY, his wife Irene Julia Smolinski is 34 WI and they have Marguerite 12 WI and Louise 1 WI. He is a switchman for the telephone company as he was in 1930. Charles Prescott Putnam is a son of Willis E. Putnam and Mary L. Jamison from New Hampshire. He was born in Rochester, Monroe County New York October 27, 1906 and with his mother in Broome County New York in 1910 and with the whole family in Westminster, Windham County Vermont in 1920. They were here in 1930 and Charles’ widowed mother Mary Jamison Putnam was with them. His dad was from New Hampshire. Irene is a daughter of Julian S. Smolenski and Clemetena or Klemenlyna Pilarski and was born in Janesville, Rock County Wisconsin July 16, 1905 and will die in Appleton, Outagamie County Wisconsin March 15, 1998. Charles will die in Appleton June 16, 1991.

 

RALPH PUTMAN  Kenosha, Kenosha County

He is 47 RUSSIA and his son Eugene is 15 WI. He and his wife Sophia, also from Lithuania in Russia, were here in 1930. He says he is married but she isn’t here.     

 

MARION J. (JOHN) PUTMAN  Pleasant Prairie, Kenosha County

He is 43 IL, his wife Blanche E. Hardin 43 IL and they have Hazel A. 17 IL, Evelyn F. 15 IL, Dorothy M. 13 IL. His brother Harrison F. Putman is 46 IL. He was born in Fulton County Illinois March 14, 1897 and works a switchboard for the railroad. They were here in 1930 and he worked for an automaker then. He just pops up in Lewistown, Fulton County Illinois in 1900 with his brother Fred (Harrison Fred) and they were grandchildren of Alexander and Rebecca Wilcox. Confusing entry, but there was a Lucinda Saunders listed as stepdaughter. She was married to Ambrose Green Saunders 30 years older than she was. In 1930 Lucinda was here with Marion and listed as mother. Lucinda was born in Buckheart, Fulton County where several Putman families were, except none with a son William. A family sheet has his folks as William Putman and Lucinda Hensley who were married March 27, 1890. He would be on the Southern Putman line like most everyone in Fulton County. He is widowed in Fulton County, Illinois in 1950.

 

H. J. (HENRY JAY) PUTMAN  La Crosse, La Crosse County

He is 75 NY and widowed now that his wife Annette Stilles has died. Henry is a son of John and Mary Putnam from Fulton County New York. Dutch Line. He had been in Minneapolis, Minnesota since the 1870s and married to Annette there from the 1890s through 1920 and then they were here in 1930. He will die in Likely, Minnesota May 22, 1945. He is a retired sales manager for a rubber goods company. Dutch line from New York State.

 

J. R. (JAY ROBERT) PUTMAN  La Crosse, La Crosse County

He is 34 WI WI WI and is a supervisor/time keeper for a W.P.A. Sewer project. His wife Norma Carol Jersey is 34 WI and they have Norma 14 WI, David 13 WI and Mary Lou 11 WI. He is a son of Milton Putman and his second wife Ida Lorenze from Sparta, Monroe County. Always listed just as J. R. His full name is Jay Robert Putman. He was single at home in 1920 and married to Norma here in 1940. He was born January 1, 1906 and will die back in Sparta in 1974. Dutch family from New York.

 

EMERALD E. PUTNAM  Antigo City, Langlade County

He is 29 WI and his wife Lucille 30 WI. In 1930 he was with his grandparents Frederick Putnam and Della May Putman from Red Springs, Shawano County, which is pretty much an Indian Reservation. His folks are interesting. His dad Frederick is 100% white on the New England English line from Massachusetts to New York to Winnebago County Illinois. Della is half Indian. Her dad was John Hamilton Putman (Dutch Putman line out of New York State and Basheba Brown (Indian line from here in Wisconsin). Emeral or Emerald was with his grandparents in 1930. He should be a son of Fred’s son Stephen or Elrod who were there in 1910 and had their own families there in 1930. Maybe out of a first marriage with them.

 

GLENN PUTNAM  Argyle, Lafayette County

He is 36 WI still single and owns his farm, or rather taken over his dad’s farm. Glenn Rogers Putnam is a son of George Helm Putnam and Anna Reed and was born here. His widowed mother Anna was here with him in 1930, and she just died. His dad George was a son of Theron Putnam and Elizabeth Jane Helm from here. Dutch family from Cayuga County in New York State.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Lamont, Lafayette County

He is 38 WI single and boarding on Henry and Julia Olsen’s farm. He is a son of George Helm Putnam and Anna Reed and was born in Argyle, Lafayette County April 2, 1901 and will die February 23, 1976. I don’t think he ever married. His dad George was a son of Theron Putnam and Elizabeth Jane Helm from here. Dutch family from New York State.

 

CHARLES H. PUTNAM  Wiota, Lafayette County

He is 42 WI WI WI and works on a farm. His wife Ethel V. Stixrood is 33 WI and they have Charlene M. 14 WI, David W. 12 WI, Robert A. 10 WI, Charles H. 8 WI, Arthur E. 5 WI and Carol A. 3 WI. He is a son of George Helm Putnam and Annie Reed from Argyle. He was home there through 1920 and then here in Lamont Township in 1930. For some reason they were all in rural Green County in 1935. He was born in 1898 and will die here in 1970.

 

ISRAEL P. (PETER) PUTNAM  Merrill City, Lincoln County

He is 72 WI and his second wife Rose Lillie is 73 WI. Israel is a son of George Washington Putnam and Martha Rebecca Brewer and was born in Marshall, Richland County in October 1867. His family was in Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont in 1850 and then here in Dane County Wisconsin by 1860. Israel was at home in Richland County in 1880, and married there in 1900. He married Vernetta Mae McBain there in 1893 and they were there in 1900 and here in Merrill in 1910 and 1920. She was a daughter of James and Mary McBain. I don’t know when she died, but was in the early 1920s as he married Rose here in in 1923 and they were here in the 1930 census. Rose is a daughter of Ransum Lillie and Leila Baird and was born January 22, 1867 in Wausau, Marathon County. She married Samuel A. Thompson in Marathon County April 3, 1895. He died in 1917, and she married Izzy in September 1923. I don’t have a death date/place for either. New England family from Vermont.

 

MYRON S. PUTNAM  Wausau, Marathon County

He is 40 VT married and staying in a hotel. He is a traveling salesman for automobiles. He is also currently listed in Niles, Cook County Illinois. He was in Johnston, Rhode Island in 1930 and 1935 with his wife Alice Jackman and they were in Amesbury, Massachusetts in 1920. Myron is a son of Henry Lincoln Putnam and Grace Harriett Griffith. He was born in Vermont in November 1899 and then the family was in Charlestown, New Hampshire in 1900 and in Chesterfield, New Hampshire in 1910. New England folks of course.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 45 WI NY CAN and is a line man for the electric company.  His wife Anna Kroening is 50 WI and they have Franklin 25 WI, Mary 19 WI, Leslie, a son, 18 WI, George 14 WI and Robert Lee 10 WI. He is a son of George Ward Putman and Mary LaPointe. He was born on Green Bay March 3, 1895 and will die here in Milwaukee September 6, 1955. Anna is a daughter of Albert Kroening and Wilhelminia Hannah Wiskow from Germany. She was born in Wisconsin in 1889 and will die here in Milwaukee in 1988. They were here married in 1920, and will be here all their lives. I didn’t find this while doing the 1940. It was listed in the 1950. I looked at it and the name is written very messy and looks like Vatnam. Thank You Ancestry once again. 😊 Dutch Family out of New York State originally.

 

JOHN H. (HAVENS) PUTNAM  Franklin Township, Milwaukee County

He is 40 NY, his wife Emily 39 NY and Mary Elizabeth 10 WI. They were in nearby West Allis, Milwaukee County in 1930. John Havens Putnam is a son of Wistar Guernsey Putnam and Margaret Shaver and was born in Massena, St. Lawrence County New York October 26, 1899 and will eventually die in La Crosse, Wisconsin August 18, 1978. They are near here in 1940. Wister was a son of John Havens Putnam and Sophia Guernsey, and was born in Hamilton, Ontario March 12, 1879. They were here through the 1920 census. His dad was from Tioga County Pennsylvania. John was a son of Jonas Golusha Putnam and a grandson of Archelaus Putnam (1881) and Phebe Parker of Essex County New York. John was a lawyer. New England stock.

Really luck on this one. I didn’t have him in 1940, but while working the 1950, Ancestry somehow found him in 1940. He is listed as LOUIS PETNEM. So … He is Louis Grant Putnam 38 WI and his wife Pearl is 38 WI and they have Betty 17 WI. He is a son of Allen Putnam and Cora Clover from Dane County. He was born in Rock County August 19, 1901. He was in Dane County in 1930 and they will be here in 1950.

 

LYMAN PUTMAN  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is a missionary and is 64 WI and widowed. Says he was here in 1935 but I can’t find him before this. There is Lyman Putnam the right age in Charlestown, New Hampshire now in 1940, but he is married and born in Vermont.

 

MARTHA PUTNAM  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

She is 52 WI and divorced. She has Ralph Warren 26 WI, Donald 15 WI, Mary Annie 10 WI and her married daughter Grace 24 WI and her husband Joseph Winillia 25 MN and their daughter Barbara 1 WI. Martha Louise Schoenek was married to Warren John Putnam here in 1920 and 1930. Martha and kids will be here in 1950. He was a son of Elbert Putnam and Agnes Roeitzsch. He was born January 9, 1886 and will die here in Milwaukee December 26, 1960. Martha is a daughter of Ludwig Schoenek and Christine Krause from Germany. She was born May 16, 1888 in Junction City, Wisconsin and will die in Troy, Miami County Ohio December 28, 1968. He was single here in 1910. They were here in 1920 and 1930.

Ora Oto was a son of James Putnam and Jane McCullum and was in Champaign County Illinois with here in 1910. James was a son of Thomas Putnam from Vermont and then Vermillion County Illinois.

Regina 13 WI, Ruby 11 WI and Frances 9 WI are daughters of John Sauders 32 MI and their mother Mary Sauders 31 WI. Mary was married to Chester Putnam in West Allis in 1930. He was a son of George Nelson Putman and Margaret Joubert. The only time I saw them was in 1900 in Delta County Michigan.

He is 25 WI single and lodging. He is a masonry contractor. He is a son of Claude and Ethel Putnam from Waupun, Fond du Lac County and was home there in 1920 and 1930.

He is 33 WI, his wife Leona H. is 36 WI. They say they were in the same house in 1935. Found a family sheet and it says he was a son of Roy Lloyd Putnam and Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ Jadin. He was born July 29, 1906 in Oshkosh, Winnebago County and will die August 10, 1970 in Oshkosh. His folks were there in 1910 and not sure about him as the page was ink smeared and unreadable.

He is 34 WI, his wife Mabel Curnow 32 WI and they have Roswell C. 11 WI. Clifford Jerome is a son of Jacob Roswell Putman and Margaret A. Young here in town. Clifford was born here August 21, 1905 and married Mabel here September 5, 1928. Dutch like everyone here in town.

 

M. E. (MILTON ELMER) PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is 68 WI and his wife Ida Lorenze is 64 WI. He owns and runs a farm. They have been here since they were married. He is a son of George Lewis Putman and Margaret Brooks and was born here May 28, 1872. He married Mary Ann Reitz July 23, 1892. She died and he married Ida October 20, 1900. He will die here soon on July 10, 1942. Dutch family out of Jefferson County New York and Herkimer County before that.

 

RUSSELL PUTNAM  Oconto Falls, Oconto County

He is 59 WI, his wife Ida Ann Wolfe 58 WI and they have their son Kendall 26 WI and his wife Violet G. Hyland 20 WI. Russell McKinley Putnam is a son of Prescott Henry Putnam from Nova Scotia and his first wife Mary Gaw from here in De Pare, Brown County Wisconsin. He was born in De Pere November 11, 1880 and will die of a stroke October 24, 1956. He married Ida January 19, 1899. She is a daughter of Mathias Wolfe and Ernestine Bien and was born in Green Bay June 16, 1882 and will die here in January 1956. The son Kendall was born in 1914 and will die in a car accident in February 1955. They are here alive in 1950. New England family Massachusetts to Canada.

 

HARRY PUTNAM  Sugar Camp, Oneida County

He is Harry Arthur Putnam 56 IA and his wife Ella Goodroad is 53 SD. He is a son of Frank Harrison Putnam and Ida Langdon. Frank was a son of Harrison Putnam (2790) and Permelia Lovering from Bureau County Illinois. I never find his parents. He was born in Black Hawk County Iowa January 7, 1884 and in 1900 was living with his grandparents Ransom and Phoebe Landgon in Civil Bend, Union County South Dakota. He married Ella in 1904 and they were in Sioux City, Iowa in 1910. He is a farmer and they were here in 1930 and in Windsor, Stutsman County North Dakota in 1920. New England family.

 

SEVERN PUTNAM  Sugar Camp, Oneida County

He is 26 MN, his wife Lorraine is 24 WI and they have sons Robert 4 WI and Harlen 3 WI. He works on road construction with the W.P.A. He lives next to his folks Harry and Ella Putnam here in town.

 

LYDIA M. PUTMAN  Seymour, Outagamie County

She is now 70 NY and still single. She is a daughter of George Walter Putman and Nancy Wingate from here. She was at home here in 1900 and haven’t seen her till she reappeared in 1930. Listed single, then crossed out and written divorced. I assume she married someone and then got divorced and took back her maiden name, or maybe just single all the time. Anyway, she will die here September 17, 1947. Dutch family out of Onondaga County New York.

 

ARTHUR PUTNAM  Fredonia, Ozaukee County

He is 64 WI, his wife Martha Ottille Laubenstein is 44 WI and they have Ethel 15 WI, Murial 11 WI and Wayne 8 WI. He is Arthur Theodore Putnam a son of Elbert Victor Putnam and Agnes Emilie Roeitzsch and was born in Fredonia February 14, 1876. They were in Milwaukee and Agnes died there February 18, 1910 and Elbert moved to Chicago and died there in 1929. Arthur married Martha in 1924 and they were in Milwaukee in 1930. They are back in Milwaukee in 1950. New England Family out of New Hampshire into Washington County New York and then out here.

 

MATTIE (MARTHA) PUTMAN  River Falls, Pierce County

She is 73 WI and widowed. Her sister Bertha Foster is 66 WI. Martha Foster was married to William Hutchinson Putnam here from the time they were married here May 21, 1890 till he just died here December 24, 1939. William was a son of John Day Putnam and Catherine Lovell, and was with them in St. Croix County in 1860 and 1870 and then here. He was the city treasurer here in River Falls. She and Bertha are here in 1950. New England family from Connecticut and a direct actual descendant of General Israel.

 

CLARENCE PUTMAN  Salem Town, Pierce County

He is 43 IA and his wife Viola Keil is 34 IA. Says he is a retired contractor. He is a son of Jacob Putman and Elizabeth Vandanacker. He is Jacobճ youngest son and was born in Bellevue, Jackson County Iowa September 11, 1896 and will die there May 26, 1960. Jake’s dad was a son of Jacob Putman and Eliza Wicks from Montgomery County New York. Clarence and Viola were in Bellevue in 1930 and 1935, and are in Riviera Beach, Florida working in 1945.

 

CLIFFORD PUTNAM  Park Falls, Price County

He is 29 WI single and in the Kollner Hotel. He is listed as a laborer. He is a son of Frank Putnam and apparently Frank’s sister Hester. He is Clifford Ivan Putnam and was born in Chippewa Falls November 10, 1910. He will marry Beatrice Isabelle Stevens and will die in Shawano, Shawano County April 27, 1989. She was born March 26, 1918 and will also die up in Shawano. Clifford’s dad Frank was a son of Ephraim Putnam and Clara Mandala Mapes from Chippewa Falls. He was with his widowed mother here in 1920.

 

ROYCE PUTNAM  Park Falls, Price County

He is Royce Eugene ‘Roy’ Putnam 33 WI, his wife Elsie Andres is 33 WI and they have Arnold Edwin 13 WI and Royce Richard 7 WI. He is with Clara Mapes Putnam who was married to Ephraim Putnam who died about 1896 in Chippewa County. Roy is listed in 1910 in Dovre, Wisconsin and in 1920 with Clara as an adopted son. He was adopted by Clara (Mapes) Putnam in 1907, but is a son of Henry Benjamin Hodges and Maria Catrina Arpagus. He is listed with Clara in 1910 in Anson, Chippewa County Wisconsin, and in 1920 in Lake, Price County Wisconsin. He and Elsie are in Park Falls, Price County Wisconsin in 1940. He was born February 15, 1907 in Bradley Lincoln County Wisconsin and adopted shortly after that. He married Elsie August 17, 1925 and will die in Ashland Wisconsin November 16, 1986. Elsie is a daughter of Fred and Lillian Andrus. She was born in Bangor, La Crosse County Wisconsin March 20, 1907 and will die in Price County Wisconsin December 17, 1973.

 

ORA PUTMAN  Racine City, Racine County

He is 40 WI and his wife Anna Mandle 23 WI. Her folks must have just died or something as 6 of her brothers and 2 sisters ages 9-21 are with them. He is a car assembler at an automobile company. Ora Edward is a son Edwin or Edward Putman and Matilda Hemple and was born in Green Lake County in 1908, was there in 1910 and was here in 1920 and married here in 1930. Anna’s folks were both born in Denmark. Dutch Putmans from New York State.

 

THURLOW PUTMAN  Racine City, Racine County

He is 31 WI, his wife Anna is 30 IL and they now have Delbert 9 WI. He is a motor tester at an automobile factory. He is a son of Edwin or Edward Putman and Matilda Hemple and was born in Green Lake County in 1908, was there in 1910 and was here in 1920 and married here in 1930. He is a son Jacob Putman and Mary Jane Marr from Waushara County. In 1900 they were in Waukesha County. Dutch folks from New York State. He is Thurlow Darwin Putman born May 17, 1908 and will die in Glendale, Los Angeles County California July 14, 1954. The son Delbert Eugene was born May 9, 1930 and will also die in Glendale May 13, 1960. I guess Anna was out there, but isn’t buried in the Cemetery that Thurlow and Delbert are in.

 

ACENITH PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

She is 38 WI and married. She has Nelson 19 WI, Wayne 16 WI and Beverley 15 WI. They live with her parents Herbert and Caroline Smith. Acenith Ellen Smith is married to Nelson Jay Putnam from here. I don’t know where he is now, but he was in a hospital in Fort Bayard, New Mexico in 1930. In 1930 these three kids and one more, Charles, were here and living with their then grandparents Ward and Maggie Smith. So, maybe Nelson was married to her sister or something earlier. Beats me. Nelson was in the Army I guess and in 1927 was in the National Home for Disabled Soldiers in Milwaukee. He will die here February 190, 1953. In the meantime Acenith I guess they will divorce as Acenith will marry Ordie G. Phillips in Winnebago County September 4, 1946. He will die in 1968 and she will marry John Frederick in Las Vegas, Nevada May 3, 1971. The son Nelson Junior will marry and die September 20, 1947. The daughter Beverly will die in Phoenix, Arizona about 1970. Don’t have info on Wayne, but there is another son Charles Grover Putnam born June 2, 1922 and will die in Winnebago County July 4, 1977. Anyway, this is a Dutch Putman family out of Onondaga County New York.

 

CORA PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

She is 68 WI and widowed. She still has her daughter Rose Lee 31 WI, son Sheldon 29 WI, divorced daughter Laverne Lowe 44 WI and a grandson John E. Putnam 10 WI. Cora May Hunter was married to Nelson Jay Putnam here. They were in Brown County in 1900, and in Seymour, Outagamie County in 1910 and here in 1920 and 1930. Nelson was a son of George W. Putnam and Nancy Wingate and was born in Onondaga County New York and then out here in Outagamie County by 1880. Dutch family out of Montgomery County then Onondaga County New York.

 

EUGENE PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

He works for General Electric and is 65 WI and widowed as his wife Marie Carls died here in the 1920s. He is a son of Sylvester N. Putnam and Laura Chatterton from Dane County where he was born. He was widowed here in 1930. New York Dutch family I think.

 

EUGENE PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

He is Walter Eugene 60 WI and a painting contractor. He is single still. He is a son of Warren Putnam from Waukesha County in 1880 and Walworth County in 1900. He is here in 1920 listed as an adopted son of Charles Kidder who married his mother Josephine. He has been here in Beloit all his life and will be in 1950.

 

KENNETH & BILLY PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

Kenneth is 9 WI and his sister is 7 WI. They live with their mother Norma 30 WI and her new husband Ray Linnear 32 MN. They were here in Beloit in 1935. I canմ find her in 1930 so don’t know the husband. Wonder if Norma was yet another wife of Nelson Putnam??

 

ROY PUTMAN  Beloit, Rock County

He is 54 WI and his wife Sarah 49 WI (Norway in 1930). He is a stockroom clerk at a paper making company. William Roy Putman is a son of George Ward Putman and Maggie Wussaw from Waukesha County. He first appears in Waukesha County next to his folks in 1910 and calls himself Roy with his wife Lena C. Brandt from Wisconsin. In 1920 he was there with Sarah and in 1930 they were here and he called himself William R. His grandfather Lafayette Putman came from Montgomery County New York. Dutch Putman family.

 

EDNA PUTNAM  Janesville, Rock County

She is 59 WI and widowed. Edna Drew was married to Parker Putnam from here in 1920 and then separated by 1930. She was here with his widowed mother Mary, and Parker was in Freeport, Illinois living in a YMCA there. Parkerճ father, Harry Putnam, was from Massachusetts.

 

HARRIETT PUTNAM  Janesville, Rock County

She is 78 WI and widowed. Her widowed sister Mary Esther Doty 80 WI is living with her. Also lodging there are three girl schoolteachers. Harriett Lappin was married to Charles S. Putnam a son of Sereno and Jane Putnam. New England family out of New York before here.

 

IVAN PUTMAN  Janesville, Rock County

He is 33 WI WI WI and his wife Dorothy Fern Johnson is 32 and their daughter Loraine 12 WI. They also now have Merlin 7 WI and Janet 2 WI. He was single with his folks Ernest Putman and Clara Maude Bangle back in Clark County. He married Dorothy Fern Johnson on September 26, 1926. She wasnմ around in 1930 and he said he was widowed. They got back together a couple years later. Dorothy was born March 30, 1907 and died here March 3, 1966. Her obituary says she was married to Ivan Putman since 1926. Ivan Victor Putman was born April 12, 1906 and died here May 21, 1961. So it looks like Dorothy kinda took off for a bit and then came back and will be here forever. He works for the Fisher Auto Body Company here in town as a welder. They made General Motors cars for Chevrolet and Cadillac back then and up through the 1960s. The ones they made were labeled ‘Body by Fisher’ and were very, very well made. The daughter Loraine Arlene was born October 27, 1927 and died December 21, 1994. She will marry Raymond Hanson August 9, 1947. Dutch folks out of Jefferson County New York.

 

MARGARET D. PUTNAM  Janesville, Rock County

She is 27 WI and divorced. Her widowed sister Clara Arner 20 WI and two of her kids are with her. Ernest Putman had a couple of sons the right age here in 1930. Don’t have any proof or anything. Margaret works at Fisher Auto Body Company.

 

GLENN PUTMAN  La Prairie, Rock County

He is 44 WI and his wife Martha Kramer 47 WI. He is a son of James Monroe Putman and Etta Ann Hollister from Darien, Walworth County. He was born there and married to Martha there in 1930 and they were here in 1935. He owns his own farm. His dad James is a son of Frederick and Jane Putman from there, McHenry County Illinois and Montgomery County New York before that. Dutch Putman family.

 

STEPHEN PUTMAN  Porter Township, Rock County

He is 48 WI and his wife Elizabeth M. Collins is 51 WI. He owns his own farm. He has been in Evansville, Rock County up till now. He is Stephen Earl Putman and was born there August 7, 1893 and then pops up in the 1900 with his widowed mother Carrie. She had married Albert F. Putnam November 25, 1891 and he must have died or took off around 1898-1899 as they had a daughter Gladys born in May 1899. She married Clarence Bullock in 1907 and Stephen was there with them in 1910 and 1920 and married Elizabeth in 1922. They were Evansville in 1930. He was a cobbler in a shoe repair shop then. As to his dad, the only Albert that would have been the right age was Jacob Putman and Mary Jane Marr’s son from Waushara County as shown in 1880. That’s a Dutch Putman line from New York State and undoubtedly why Steve’s name is Putman. He will die here March 28, 1980. Elizabeth was born in 1891 and will die here in December 1942.

 

GLADYS PUTNAM  Ladysmith, Rusk County

She is 41 WI and single and is a niece of Maud McLaughlin. She is a daughter of Frank J. Putnam and Agnes M. Noteware from here. Frank was from Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County and a son of John Putnam and Julia Adeline Wells. John’s dad William Barron Putnam was from Vermont.

 

JAMES PUTTMAN  Lake Delton, Sauk County

He is a building contractor, 56 MI, his wife Mamie Thompson 42 IA and they have Arnold 16 WI and Melvin 12 WI still at home with them. They were here in 1930 and never seen before that. No idea who his folks were. Mamie however is a daughter of Lafayette Thompson and Anna Davis and was born in 1898 and will die October 24, 1975. The son Arnold Morris Putman was born November 29, 1924 and will marry Florence King and die in Rock County June 5, 1987. The other son Melvin Willard was born May 19, 1928 and will die in Sauk County August 18, 2000. I don’t have a wife’s name for him.

 

RAMONA PUTMAN  Lake Delton, Sauk County

She is 26 WI single and a servant with a Carpenter family. She is a daughter of Raymond Earl Putman and Rose T. Peterson and was born in Stoughton, Wisconsin February 2, 1914. She was home with the folks in Madison, Dane County in 1920 and Fitchburg, Dane County in 1930. Says she was in Madison, Dane County in 1935. She will marry George Richard Steichen in Madison County June 4, 1944. She will die in Madison January 15, 1993.  New York Dutch family.

 

MERLE PUTNAM  Spring Green Village, Sauk County

He is 38 WI and his wife Arvilla is 37 CAN and they have Russell 11 WI. His wife was Mary in 1930, but is the same gal. Then she was 27 WI with both folks born in Canada, now she admits she really was too I guess. Merle Arthur Putnam is a son of William Arthur Putman and Fannie Louise Stott from Darlington, Lafayette County where he was born January 20, 1902. They were married there February 15, 1860. Theron was a son of Lewis Putman and Abigail Chatfield from Cayuga County in New York. He was there in 1870, and married to Della in Iowa in 1900. Della is a daughter of John Hamilton Putman (New York Dutch) and Basheba Brown (Indian). Fred and Della were here in 1910 through 1930.

He is 47 WI, his wife Thelma Davids 38 WI and they have Ramona 11 WI, Betty Jane 8 WI, Pauline 6 WI, Beverly 4 and Alice 2 WI. They were married here in 1927 and were here in 1930. It was his second marriage and he had two daughters, Beryl and Virgie, by his first marriage to Arvilla. Both he and Thelma have mixed white and Indian blood. Steve is a son of Frederick Putnam and Della May Putman from here. Fred is a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. She is 73 WI and widowed. She was married to Aaron Putman here in 1910. She was widowed here in 1920 and 1930. Aaron was a son of John Aaron and Catherine Putman and was at home in Schenectady, New York in 1870 and Schodack, Rensselaer County New York in 1880. He is 40 WI, his wife Elda Martha Liebner is 37 WI. They have Robert 19 WI and Betty 18 WI. Raymond Walter Putnam is a son of Arthur Putnam and Martha George from Milwaukee. He was born there June 15, 1899 and was single there up through 1920 and then married here in 1930. He is the owner of a radiator repair shop. New England line from New Hampshire to Washington County New York and here.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Maplehurst, Taylor County

He is 68 WI NY MA and owns his farm. His wife Anna Metzger is 64 WI. He is Cyrus Ingel Putnam and Harriet Pauline Sanderson’s son and was in Clark County in 1900 and 1910 and then here in 1920 and 1930. His dad Cyrus was a son of John Wellington Putnam and Minerva Scott, and was born in Watertown, New York February 22, 1835. The family briefly moved to Canada, and then by 1850 were in Winnebago County Illinois. John was a son of Abijah Putnam from New York and a grandson of Tarrant Putnam (342) from Sutton, Massachusetts. George was born in Green County April 20, 1872. They never had any children. George will die here November 17, 1947 and Anna is widowed in Rusk County, Wisconsin in 1950.

 

WILLARD C. (CHARLES) PUTMAN  Whitehall, Trempealeau County

He is 23 IL single and lodging. He is a parts manager in an auto repair shop. He is a son of Raymond Putman and Alma Ethel Boyd and was born in Kewanee, Henry County Illinois January 30, 1916 and will die in Decatur, Illinois April 13, 2003. He was at home in Kewanee up through 1935. He is a brother of Warren Putman who did so much research on the New York Dutch line, which this line is on.

 

ELMER PUTMAN  Viroqua City, Vernon County

He is 29 WI WI WI and a game warden for the state conservation department. His wife Irene Shaffer in 29 WI and they have Carl 10 WI and Jack 9 WI. Elmer Eugene is a son of Jacob Roswell Putman and Margaret Young from Sparta, Monroe County. He was born there April 27, 1910 and will die in Rice County Minnesota July 25, 1992. Irene was born December 31, 1910. They were married in Sparta June 26, 1929 and were there in 1930 and 1935. Like everyone in Sparta, this is a Dutch Putman line out of New York State.

 

LEAH PUTMAN  Darien, Walworth County

She is 43 WI and widowed. She has a son Phillip C. Putnam 3 WI. Leah Rockwell was married to Clyde M. Putman, son of James Monroe Putman from here. He was here with his dad in 1930 and would be 46 if around. So he fits, but only a guess. In 1930 Clyde was living with his dad. Then I guess he took over the house and his dad moved in with his son Roy and is there now. Leah says she was in the same house in 1935 and owns it. It is worth $3000 and she now has 4 lodgers living here too.

 

ROY C. PUTMAN  Darien, Walworth County

He is 36 WI, his wife Eva Rockwell is 25 WI and they have Beverly 8 WI, Gordon L. 2 WI and Donna May 5/12 WI. Also here is his father James Monroe Putman 86 WI (should be IL as he was born in McHenry County Illinois). He is a farmer and has been here all his life. He married Eva in Rockford, Winnebago County on December 24, 1930. He will die in Beloit, Rock County November 29, 1993. Eva was born in 1914 and will die here about 2009. MARVIN PUTNAM  West Bend, Washington County

He is 33 WI, his wife Mary Ann Trowbridge is 34 WI and they have James 5 WI and Thomas 3 WI. They were in St. Cloud, Fond du Lac County in 1935 and in Plymouth, Sheboygan County in 1930. He is a ‘trouble man’ for the electric company. I think ‘service repairman’ is a more reasonable title. He is a son of Russell McKinley Putman and Ida Agnes Wolfe from Oconto County. He was born there February 15, 1908 and will die in Weber, Wisconsin March 21, 1963. New England family Massachusetts to Canada to here.

 

FRANK A. PUTNAM  Waukesha, Waukesha County

He is Frank Allen Putnam 43 WI, his wife Cora Mae Bell is 42 WI, their son Leonard is 20 WI and Robert is 11 WI. He is the son of George Putnam and Leora DeLine of Harvard, McHenry County Illinois. He was born here in Walworth County Wisconsin November 20, 1896, but was back in Illinois and shown there at home in 1900 and 1910. He was married to Cora here in 1920. He is a carpenter at a sanitation project. Wonder if that means he builds outhouses.

 

MARGARET PUTNAM  Waukesha, Waukesha County

She is 65 WI and widowed as she has been since 1920. She is living with her married daughter Esther 37 WI and her husband Emmett J. Shuff 46 IN. Margaret Wussaw is the widow of George Ward Putman. She and Esther were with him in Oconomowoc in 1900 and 1910, and she was living with the Shuffs here in 1920 after being separated or getting divorced. He died here in 1921. She was here in 1930. GILES PUTMAN  New London, Waupaca County

He is 65 WI and widowed as his wife Emma died in 1934. His son Robert 23 WI is at home. Robert was married to Loretta McAndrews in 1937 and says he is divorced. She is with her folks in Dane County and has their son Robery with her. They will get back together in a couple of years and be together for the rest of their lives. They are in Madison, Dane County in 1950 and forever. Giles Henry Putman is a son of Gilbert Putman and Catherine Nare from Greenbush, Sheboygan County where he was born November 27, 1875. He married Emma Hart Shaw July 1, 1908. She was born in Madison County in 1885 and died here June 24, 1934. Giles will die here July 15, 1943. Gile’s dad Gilbert was a son of Benjamin Putman and Sophia Moyer. He is from Cazenovia, New York. Dutch family.

He is 2 WI and a grandson of Ernest and Ida MacAndrew. Their divorced daughter Loretta 21 WI is his mommy. She was married to Neil Kenneth Putnam son of Giles Putnam here in town.

He is John Henry Putman the son of Ernest Wesley Putman and Clara Maude Bangle from Mentor, Clark County in 1920 where he was born March 24, 1917. His dad died in 1927, and in 1930 he was with his remarried mother Clara who married Clyde Barr and was in Rock County. He married Helen May 27, 1939 in Borth, Waushara County. She was born in Poy Sippi July 7, 1916 and will die in Oshkosh, Winnebago County July 11, 1978. He will also die in Oshkosh April 9, 1972. His dad Ernest was a son of John Putman who was a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Emhoff from Jefferson County New York and then in Sparta, Monroe County Wisconsin. Dutch family originally from Montgomery County New York.

 

ROBERT PUTMAN  Menasha, Winnebago County

He is 33 WI, his wife Inez Edith Deda is 28 WI and they have a daughter Jill 7 WI. He is an artist in a paper mill and will become art director for American Can Company. He is Robert Alonzo Putman a son of Alonzo Sylvester Putman and Lucretia Catherine Johnson and was born in Sturgeon Bay, Door County January 3, 1907. His dad was from Kane County Illinois and Fulton County New York before that. Dutch Putman family. He married Inez in Waukegan, Illinois April 2, 1932. She is a daughter of Royal Ezra Deda and Pauline Kott and was born in Kewaunee, Wisconsin August 27, 1911 and will die here in Menasha July 6, 2003. Robert will die in Marshfield, Wisconsin July 13, 1980.

 

ARTHUR R. PUTNAM  Oshkosh, Winnebago County

He is 56 WI WI WI and a watchman at a truck factory. His wife Cora Belle Mantz is 55 WI and they have Donald C. 23 WI. He is a son of Fred Putnam and Cynthia Eldridge. He was born February 10, 1884 and was at home with them in Wood County in 1900 and married here since 1910.  He married Cora November 28, 1905 in Outagamie County. She is a daughter of James B. Mantz and Anna Louise Wiese and was born in Waupaca County August 17, 1883 and will die here in Oshkosh June 24, 1969. Arthur will die here December 16, 1961. His dad was a son of Sereno James Monroe Putnam out of Blount County New York and Vermont before that. New Englanders.

 

CORA PUTNAM  Oshkosh, Winnebago County

She is 48 WI and now divorced. She has Lester 22 WI, Lorna 13 WI, Verna 11 WI with her. They live with Frances Tinkham 89 WI and widowed. Cora Amanda Fink was married to George Clinton Putnam here in 1920 and 1930. George is a son of Frederick H. Putnam and Cynthia Eldridge and was born in Waushara County February 10, 1884 and was with the family in Wood County in 1900 and then here by 1910. She is still here in 1950. He married Cora here December 24, 1910. Cora is a daughter of John Henry Fink and Amelia Steuben and was born in Waushara County March 18, 1892 and will die here in Oshkosh June 24, 1969. George will die here February 10, 1963. Family is out of Winchester, New Hampshire then Lewis County New York then out here. New Englanders.

He is 53 WI VT WI. His wife Beatrice Ethel Slagle is 47 MN and they have Paul R. 22 WI, Dorothy 16 WI and Daniel 8 WI. He is a dairy farmer. He first showed up in 1900 here with his widowed mother Clara. They were in Chippewa County in 1910 and in Price County in 1920. Clara Mandada Mapes married Ephraim Putnam in Chippewa County January 25, 1883 and he died before 1896. Ephraim was a son of Jonathan Putnam (1952) and Mary Stockwell of Bradford, Orange County, Vermont. Clyde was born in Chippewa County August 17, 1896. Beatrice is a daughter of Charles and Emma Slagle and was born in Minnesota May 25, 1902 and she will die in Rice Lake, Barron County March 1, 1980.

 

ENSOR PUTMAN  De Pere, Brown County

He is 54 WI WI WI and is a machinist at a paper mill. His wife Pearl Margarette Monette is 49 WI. Ensor Orson is a son of Orson Andrew Putman and Anna Nelson from Sturgeon Bay. He was born there September 25, 1895 and was there up until 1910. He will die here in De Pere March 6, 1969. Pearl was born in Green Bay, Brown County March 27, 1901 and she will die in Shawano County  April 29, 1991. Dutch family from Herkimer County New York.

 

LESLIE PUTNAM  De Pere, Brown County

He is 75 WI and his wife Mollie Johnson is 65 WI. He is an assistant Chief of Police here. He is a son of Alexander Putnam and Rosanna Redman from Nova Scotia and was born here July 6, 1874. He married Mollie here December 21, 1898. She is a daughter of John Johnson and Christina Rickelson and was born April 26, 1874 and will die here in De Pere November 2, 1962. Leslie will die here August 28, 1956. The family came out of Massachusetts right before the Revolution.

 

ANTON H. (HENRY) PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is a painting contractor 68 WI and his wife Jane Thomas is 66 WI. They have a grandson Thomas Elferd 22 WI with them. Anton Henry Putman is a son of Antone Thomas Puttemanns and Margareta Ostermann and was born here in Green Bay February 28, 1882 and will die here October 16, 1953. His dad was from Belgium. Jane was born here and will die in Green Bay March 20, 1977.

 

DANIEL PUTNAM  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 6 WI and living as a nephew with Albert and Ruth Abhold from here. Ruth is a daughter of Claude William Putnam and Julia Haver. She was married to Albert in 1940 and they were at her folk’s house right here in Green Bay. New York Dutch family. Ruth’s sister Lorraine is listed below now too. Pretty sure that Loraine is the mommy of Daniel. See her listing.

 

EARL PUTNAM  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 32 WI and his wife Edith Marie Goddard 27 WI and they have Earl Junior 8 WI and Claudia 9 WI. An aunt Bernice Haver 50 WI lives with them. She is his mom’s sister. They were just married here in 1940 and were living with Earl’s folks. Earl Raymond Putnam is a son of Claude Putnam and Julia Haver from here. Earl was born in Milwaukee July 7, 1917 and will die here August 12, 1958. Edith was born in Green Bay June 23, 1923 and will die here April 5, 1983. His dad Claude William Putnam is a son of George Ward Putman and Mary LaPointe, and was with the family in Green Bay in 1900. They were in Outagamie County in 1920, and back here in 1930. Claude was born in Seymour, Outagamie County March 9, 1886 and will die here in Green Bay December 31, 1941. Julia is a daughter of Albert Haver and was born in Seymour April 14, 1892 and will die in Neenah, Wisconsin December 7, 1959. Dutch family from New York State.

 

LESTER PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 44 WI, his wife Lucille Margaret Budzis is 43 WI and they have John A. 21 WI, Sally A. 17 WI and Judith 12 WI. He works for Standard Oil Company doing maintenance work. He is a son of Anton Putman and Jane Thomas from here. He was born here August 10, 1905 and will die in Green Bay March 13, 1981. Lucille was born in Green Bay February 24, 1907 and will die here August 22, 1991. Puttemanns Family from Belgium.

 

LORRAINE PUTNAM  Green Bay, Brown County

She is 29 WI and says she is single and was never married. But … she has her daughter Diana Pitsch 10 WI with her. Lorraine Lillian Putnam is a daughter of Claude William Putnam and Julia Haver. She was married to William John Pitsch in 1940 and has their daughter Diana, then just born, right there with them, and they were at her folk’s house right here in Green Bay. Lorraine married William here May 3, 1939. Lorraine’s sister Ruth is listed above with Daniel Putnam who I think is Lorraine’s kid. Anyway, Lorraine was born January 24, 1921 and will die here in Green Bay March 12, 1974. Her name on the tombstone is LORRAINE PITSCH 1921-1974. So even though she is ‘single and never married,’ she will get back together with William Pitsch it seems. His tombstone is next to hers and both are on a large single slab of rock in Allouez Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum in Green Bay.

 

ROBERT PUTMAN  Green Bay, Brown County

He is 35 WI and his new wife Marion Anna Nelsen is 32 WI and they have Sandra 1 WI. He was married to Dorothy here in 1940 and then married Marion November 17, 1945. He is a son of Anton Henry Putman and Jane M. Thomas from here. Anton’s folks Antone Puttemanns and Margaret Osterman were both born in Belgium.  He was born here November 29, 1914 and will die in March 1972. Marion was born in Green Bay April 1, 1918 and will die here December 2, 1993. They divorced I guess as she remarried to Marvin Satorius November 20, 1965.

 

HAROLD W. (WILLIAM) PUTMAN  Preble, Brown County

He is 41 WI and his wife Irene Olga Entringer is 44 WI and they have Gerald 14 WI and Daniel 4 WI. They were married here September 17, 1929. He is a son of Anton Putman and Jane Thomas

 

A. L. (ARCHIE LEROY) PUTNAM  Chippewa Falls City, Chippewa Falls County

He is 64 WI and his wife Clara Mae Sanderson is 72 WI. They were married here June 6, 1910 and have been here ever since. He was secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. He is a son of John Putnam and Julia Adeline Wells and was born here May 12, 1885. Clara was born in 1879 and will die here January 26, 1975. Archie will die here March 5, 1958. His line goes back into Orange County Vermont then Lyndeborough, New Hampshire and Salem, Massachusetts before that.

She is 58 WI and widowed as she has been. Her sister Rose Elkie 66 WI is with her. Edith Isabella Ehlke was married to William Henry Putman August 29, 1914 and they were here in 1930. Her sister Rose and mother Tracey Elkie were here then too and still were in 1940. She was William’s second wife and he was 65 NY in 1920 and she was only 27. William was a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Emhoff from Jefferson County New York and then in Sparta, Monroe County Wisconsin. They were here in 1920 and 1930. She was widowed here in 1940. Edith was born here July 23, 1891 and will die right here October 1, 1856. Dutch family out of New York State.

 

EMMET PUTNAM  Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County

He is now 75 WI and his wife Alice Keturah Whitman 68 WI. She said Canada in 1900. Then they were here living with his folks John Brown Putnam VT and Julia Adeline Wells CAN. His dad John was born here, a son of William Barron Putnam and Esther Brown from Vermont before that. They have been here forever. He was an Insurance Agent up till 1930 and can’t find in 1940, but was right here.

 

MELVIN E. (EDWIN) PUTMAN  Mentor, Clark County

He is 33 WI single and has his mother Anna Trader 68 Germany with him. He has been here all his life except when he was in the U. S. Army from March 11, 1941 till December 13, 1945. He is a son of Russ Putman and Anna Theresa Trader and was born here November 24, 1916 and will die here July 30, 1969. He will marry Joyce Shramek at some stage and she is with him when he dies in 1969. Dutch Poutman family from New York.

He is 34 WI and his wife Helen Josephine Michaels is 34 WI and they have Allen J. 9 WI, Kenneth M. 5 WI and Janice L. born in October 1949. He is a son of Russell Putman and Anna Theresa Trader and was born here December 6, 1915 and will die here August 21, 1997. He married Helen here June 20, 1939. They were here but not in the index, as he was listed as WM Puttman which should have been read as W. N. Putman and Hellen Putman. His mom and brother Melvin are here in town still. He rents a farm. She is 19 WI single and a knitter in hosiery mill. She is Yvonne Jean Putnam, a daughter of Lester Dean Putnam and Pearl Marie Southard from Sun Prairie, Dane County where she was in 1940. She was born there November1, 1930. She will marry Ralph Wortman October 14, 1951 out in Placer, California. They will divorce February 10, 1981. She will come back here and later marry Jack Albert Mulich and die where she was born in Sun Prairie, Dane County November 22, 2019.

 

ROSE PUTNAM  Burke, Dane County

She is Rose Peterson 60 WI and divorced from Raymond Earl Putman. They were here in Dane County in 1920 and 1930. They were divorced in 1940.Rose is living with her now married daughter Ramona 37 WI and her husband George Richard Steichan 40 IL. Ramona was by herself in Sauk County in 1940 and married George in Madison County June 4, 1944. She will die in Madison January 15, 1993. Rose will die here in Dane County December 23, 1977. BERNARD L. (LYLE) PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 56 WI divorced and lodging. He is a barber in a barbershop as he was in 1930 and 1940. He was married to Vergie Bacon in Waupun, Dodge County in 1930. He was divorced in Fond du Lac County in 1940. She was there in town as was their daughter Dorothy, but all were living separately. Whole family just blew up and split. This was his second marriage and second divorce, and his last. He won’t try it again. Bernard is a son of Allen Freemont Putnam and Cora Benway Calvert. He was born in Rock County March 5, 1893 and will die in Madison, Dane County February 15, 1964. Dutch family out of Montgomery County New York.

 

DOUGLAS J. (JOHN) PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 24 MN and in training in a retail store. John Douglas Putnam is a son of David Ramsey Putnam and Bess Whipple from St. Paul, Ramsey County Minnesota. Bess is a Putnam of sorts. Her folks are Lois Henry Whipple and May Nary Putnam who was a daughter of George Putnam from Marietta, Ohio. New England family Massachusetts to Ohio. Doug was born April 28, 1925, served in WWII and will die in Will County Illinois August 4, 2000. He will be marrying Justine Graver in Will County Illinois.

 

EUGENE J. (JEROME) PUTMAN  Madison, Dane County

He is 25 WI and lodging He is a son of Ralph and Sophia Putman from Lithuania, Russia and was at home in Kenosha in 1930 and 1940. He was born June 26, 1924 and will die back in Kenosha November 18, 2004. He will marry a gal named Jacqueline Sue Hen-Thorne May 24, 1953.

 

E. (ELLSWORTH) DALE PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 21 WI and his wife Jeanne Storke is 18 WI and they have Patricia 1 WI. Her divorced dad Carlton D. Storke 60 WI and lives with them. Dale is an automobile mechanic. He isa son of Lester Dean Putnam and Pearl Marie Southard from Sun Prairie, Dane County. He was born there July 18, 1928 and will die back there September 17, 1978.

He is 46 WI and a night fireman. He is single and lodging. Glenn Rogers Putnam is a son of George Helm Putnam and Anna Reed and was born in Lafayette County, Wisconsin. His dad George was a son of Theron Putnam and Elizabeth Jane Helm from there. In 1940 he was working there on his dad’s farm, but I guess got tired of that. She is 74 WI and widowed. In 1940 she was married to John R. Putman. He was a son of Isaac Harper Putman and Emma Andrews and was born here. Think he’s Dutch, but not certain.

 

MELVIN E. (EARL) PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 35 IL and his wife Jean Alberta Webber is 35 IL and they have Rodney 7 WI and Susan 3 WI.  He is a son of Walter Earl Putnam and Vera Cheney from Danville, Vermillion County Illinois. He was home in Danville through 1930 and then in Springfield, Illinois briefly when he signed up for the draft and was married at the time. He was born in Danville June 5, 1914, and will die here in Madison April 24, 2004. He married Jean September 12, 1937. She will die right here October 18, 1986.

 

NORMA PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

She is 29 WI single and lodging. She is a bookkeeper for an Automobile dealer. She is a daughter of Ray and Rose Putnam and was with them in Fitchburg, Dane County in 1930. Her folks got divorced and I guess she found a place to stay. Her mom is listed above.

Robert was born November 23, 1869 in De Pere, Brown County Wisconsin and will die very soon on May 31, 1950. He married Dorothy February 3, 1898. Dorothy was born May 9, 1875 in Brown County and will die in a few months on November 8, 1950. They both did their best to get into this census. New England family that went up to Nova Scotia and some came down here, most stayed up there.

He is 41 WI and his wife Anne Hefty is 35 SWITZ and they have Mary Anne 6 WI and Patricia 4 WI. He is a son of Robert  Putnam and Dorothy Pierson from here. He was born in Brown County May 11, 1898 and will die here April 19, 1952. He was here with his folks in 1920 and just married to Anne here in 1930. He is an automobile insurance agent. Anne was born in Switzerland November 25, 1904 and will die in Pompano Beach, Florida October 31, 1989. She will marry Carl William Sliffe and then split up. His 1994 obit says his wife was Ruby Sanders and he died here in Madison.

 

ROBERT L. (LOUIS) PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 28 IA and his wife Bonnie Jean Walls is 26 IL. They have Gary Allen 5 WI and Stephen Douglas 2 WI. Robert is a sheet metal worker at the state university here. Robert was born in Manchester, Iowa January 9, 1922 and will die in Morristown, Tennessee April 21, 2005. Bonnie was born November 15, 1923 and will die in Morristown, Tennessee December 24, 2006. He and Bonnie were married out in California March 4, 1943. Bob is a son of Edward Putnam and Hettie Spare from Delaware, Delaware County Iowa. He was there in 1930 and with a married sister there in 1940. His dad Edward is a son of Henry Harrison Putnam and his second wife Elvira Stanclift, and was at home in Delaware City with them in 1900, and married there since 1910.

 

ROBERT R. (ROSS) PUTNAM  Madison, Dane County

He is 33 WI and his wife Loretta McAndrew is 31 WI and they have Robert H. 12 WI, Richard J. 7 WI and Marie Ann 6 WI. He is a son of Giles Henry Putnam and Emma Hart. He was at home with them in 1930 in New London, Waupaca County. Emma died there June 24, 1934 and Giles died there July 15, 1943. Robert was home there in 1940. He married Loretta June 25, 1973 here, but she wasn’t there in 1940, and was at home with her folks in New London and said that she was divorced, and had young Robert with her. Guess they kissed and made up around 1942 and had lil Richard in 1943. Seem to be doing okay now. Robert was born in New London, Waupaca County November 11, 1916 and will die here in Madison June 30, 1979. Loretta was born November 24, 1918 and died here in Madison January 11, 1998. He is a lawyer for the State Industrial Commission. Willard Henry Putnam is a son of William Hollis Putman and Mary Ellen Devitt and was born here March 8, 1912. He married Betty August 20, 1938. She was a daughter of William Edward O’Brien and Kathryn N. Wall and was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin September 11, 1915. She will die here in Madison September 12, 2006. He is 27 WI and his new wife Vera Gail Pledger is 25 WI. They were married around here September 27, 1942. He is a son of Raymond Paul Putman and Rose T. Peterson and was at home Fitchburg, Dane County in 1930 and then the folks divorced. He was with his mom in 1940. She remarried and had a new name and he was with her under some name somewhere probably in the United States or maybe even around here. He was born in Madison, Dane County July 25, 1922 and will die May 4, 2014 around here. New York Dutch folks like most here in Dane County.

He is a son of William Herbert Putnam and Laura Christine Larson and was born here September 28, 1910. He married Angeline here August 28, 1937. She was born in Straubville, North Dakota July 23, 1913 and will die in North Dakota October 19, 1990. Elmer will die in North Dakota December 3, 1981. In 1900, the family was in Wayne County Nebraska and then here.

He is 20 WI single and working as an aide in the State Conservation Department. He is a son of Elmer Eugene Putman and Irene Shaffer and was at home in Vernon County in 1940. His dad is a game warden for the State Conservation Department. Elmer Eugene is a son of Jacob Roswell Putman and Margaret Young from Sparta, Monroe County. He was born there April 27, 1910 and will die in Rice County Minnesota July 25, 1992. Irene was born December 31, 1910. Carl was born February 25, 1930 and will die back here in Sparta, Monroe County August 28, 2015. He was mustered into the U. S. Marine Corps in October 1944. He is a son of James Putman and Ethelyn Pinkley from Chicago, Illinois. He was there in 1930. He was born there November 28, 1921 and married Shirley Ann Katz in Slinger, Wisconsin August 23, 1944. Pretty sure he is the son of Marvin Putnam and Mary Ann Trowbridge and they were in West Bend, Washington County in 1940. They were here in Fond Du Lac though in 1935. In that census he was listed as 5 WI but was 8 WI. His dad is a son of Russell McKinley Putman and Ida Agnes Wolfe from Oconto County. He was born there February 15, 1908 and will die in Weber, Wisconsin March 21, 1963. New England family Massachusetts to Canada to here.

She is 58 WI and widowed. She is living with her sister Olive Olson 71 WI and Brother Albin Olson 53 WI. Ethel Clara Olson was married to Claude Putnam here in 1920 through 1940. Olive was with them in 1940. Claude was a son of Isaac Harper Putnam and Emma Andrews from Oregon, Dane County Wisconsin. He died here in 1943. Ethel was born in 1891 and will die here in 1972. Charles Prescott Putnam is a son of Willis E. Putnam and Mary L. Jamison from New Hampshire. He was born in Rochester, Monroe County New York October 27, 1906 and with his mother in Broome County New York in 1910 and with the whole family in Westminster, Windham County Vermont in 1920. They were in Kenosha, Kenosha County in 1930 and Charles’ widowed mother Mary Jamison Putnam was with them. They were there with just their family in 1940. His dad was from New Hampshire. Irene is a daughter of Julian S. Smolenski and Clemetena or Klemenlyna Pilarski and was born in Janesville, Rock County Wisconsin July 16, 1905 and will die here in Appleton, Outagamie County March 15, 1998. Charles will die in Appleton June 16, 1991.

He is 60 Lithuania/Russia and widowed. He and his wife Sophia, also from Lithuania in Russia, were here in 1930. In 1940 he was here with his son Eugene. He was Neutralized here in Kenosha in 1924. His name then was Rapalas Putman Padzinnas. He was born March 4, 1890 and will die right here November 24, 1975

He is 48 WI single and boarding on Ernest Hendrickson’s farm and works there on the farm. He is a son of George Helm Putnam and Anna Reed and was born in Argyle, Lafayette County April 2, 1901 and will die February 23, 1976. I don’t think he ever married. His dad George was a son of Theron Putnam and Elizabeth Jane Helm from here. Dutch family from New York State.

He is 52 WI WI WI and works on a farm. His wife Ethel Viola Stixrood is 42 WI and they have Charles H. Jr. 18 WI, Carol Ann 13 WI and Sandra 9 WI. He is a son of George Helm Putnam and Annie Reed from Argyle, Lafayette County. He was home there through 1920 and then in Lamont Township in 1930. For some reason they were all in rural Green County in 1935 and then here in Wiota in 1940. George was born in 1898 and will die here in 1970. Charles was born in Argyle, Lafayette County March 3, 1898 and will die in Monroe, Green County in Wiota March 14, 1970. Ethel was born here in Wiota June 14, 1906 and will die in Monroe Green County January 27, 1989.

 

ISRAEL P. (PETER) PUTNAM  Merrill City, Lincoln County

He is 82 WI and widowed. Israel is a son of George Washington Putnam and Martha Rebecca Brewer and was born in Marshall, Richland County in October 1867. His family was in Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont in 1850 and then here in Dane County Wisconsin by 1860. Israel was at home in Richland County in 1880, and married there in 1900. He married Vernetta Mae McBain there in 1893 and they were there in 1900 and here in Merrill in 1910 and 1920. She was a daughter of James and Mary McBain. I don’t know when she died, but was in the early 1920s as he married Rose Lillie here in in 1923 and they were here in the 1930 and 1940 census. Rose is a daughter of Ransum Lillie and Leila Baird and was born January 22, 1867 in Wausau, Marathon County. She married Samuel A. Thompson in Marathon County April 3, 1895. He died in 1917, and she married Izzy in September 1923. I don’t have a death date/place for either. New England family from Vermont.

He is 33 WI single and boarding. He is a pinsetter at a bowling alley here in town. He was born here in Marathon County March 21, 1917. He is a son of Frank Herbert Putnam and Ella M. Schofield and they were here in 1910 and 1920 then Frank was married in Sherman, Clark County in 1930 and widowed there in 1940. Donald was with him through 1940. Then headed over here. He will die December 31, 2000 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Don’t think he ever married.

Putnam 26 WI a daughter in law and her son Donald 1 WI. She is Louise Budtke who married their son Donald Eugene Putnam on December 19, 1946. Donald is in the Army. He enlisted September 30, 1947 and will make a career and get out May 31, 1973. Lester works in a porcelain plant. Lester Dean Putnam is a son of Allen Clark Putnam and Eliza Nye from Hancock County Ohio where he was born December 31, 1901 and then Wyandotte County where he married Pearl December 20, 1922.

He is 43 NC and an inmate in the prison farm. In 1920 he is listed with his mother Laura Agnes Hux who was married to John Putman who was a son of Perry Green and Susan Putnam and was in Rocky Mount, Edgecombe County North Carolina. Only time I find him. He married Jessie Lillian Williams August 13, 1931 in Greensville County Virginia.

She is 49 NY and now divorced. She has her daughter Mary Elizabeth 20 WI with her. Emily Fredericka Sutorius was married to John Havens Putnam here in Milwaukee County in 1930 and 1940. They were married December 24, 1926 as a Christmas Present to each other. Didn’t work out after a while though. Emily was born February 27, 1901 and will die April 14, 1985. John was a son of Wistar Guernsey Putnam and Margaret Shaver and was born in Massena, St. Lawrence County New York October 26, 1899 and will eventually die in La Crosse, Wisconsin August 18, 1978. Wister was a son of John Havens Putnam and Sophia Guernsey, and was born in Hamilton, Ontario March 12, 1879. His dad was from Tioga County Pennsylvania. His granddad John was a son of Jonas Golusha Putnam and a grandson of Archelaus Putnam (1881) and Phebe Parker of Essex County New York. John was a lawyer. New England stock.

Both Stephen and Thelma have mixed white and Indian blood. Steve is a son of Frederick Putnam and Della May Putman from here. Fred is a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. He was there in 1870, and married to Della in Iowa in 1900. Della is a daughter of John Hamilton Putman (Dutch) and Basheba Brown (Indian). One of the rare marriages of Putnams and Putmans. She was with her folks in Shawano County Wisconsin in 1940. Betty Jane will marry Douglas Schiel in Shawano County July 13, 1951.

Since he didn’t have her in the 1930 with Bessie, she would be Pearl’s from a prior marriage.

She was born May 16, 1888 in Junction City, Wisconsin and will die in Troy, Miami County Ohio December 28, 1968. Ralph was born December 23, 1913 as a great pre-Christmas present from Santa. He will die here June 20, 1987. Mildred was born right here January 22, 1917 and will die here October 7, 2007.

 

STEVE PUTMAN  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 57 WI and has a new wife Marion Irene 38 WI who was married to Frank Repka and she has a bunch of Repka step kids. They do have James J. Putman 1 WI. Steve was married to Elizabeth Collins in Rock County till she died in December 1942. He is Stephen Earl Putman and was born there August 7, 1893 and then pops up in the 1900 with his widowed mother Carrie. She had married Albert F. Putnam November 25, 1891 and he must have died or took off around 1898-1899 as they had a daughter Gladys born in May 1899. She married Clarence Bullock in 1907 and Stephen was there with them in 1910 and 1920 and married Elizabeth in 1922. They were Evansville in 1930 and in Porter Township, Rock County in 1940. He was a cobbler in a shoe repair shop then. As to his dad, the only Albert that would have been the right age was Jacob Putman and Mary Jane Marr’s son from Waushara County as shown in 1880. That’s a Dutch Putman line from New York State and undoubtedly why Steve’s name is Putman. He will die back in Rock County March 28, 1980.

 

WARREN J. (JOHN) PUTNAM  Milwaukee, Milwaukee County

He is 64 WI and his new wife Selma Petri is 59 WI. This is the second ‘go’ for both. He was married to Martha Schoenek here in 1920 and 1930 and divorced here in Milwaukee in 1940. Selma was married to Otto Hansen and was in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1920 and 1930 and then also divorced here in Milwaukee in 1940. Warren is a son of Elbert Victor Putnam and Agnes Roeitzsch. He was born January 9, 1886 in Milwaukee, and will die here in Milwaukee December 26, 1960. He is a telegraph operator for the Railroad here. New England Family out of New Hampshire into Washington County New York and then out here.

 

HERBERT C. (CHARLES) PUTMAN  Shorewood Village, Milwaukee County

He is 50 WI and his wife Verna Mohwinkle 52 WI and they have Donna Mae 22 WI. They are janitor and janitress in an apartment building. He is a son of George Ward Putman and Margaret Wussaw from Oconomowoc, Waukesha County where he was born March 31, 1900. Verna was born July 20, 1898 and will die in Brookfield, Waukesha County May 23, 1953. They were here in 1930 and 1940. Dutch family out of Montgomery County New York State.

 

ORA PUTNAM  Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County

He is 67 IL, and a patient in the Milwaukee County Infirmary. He was born in Danville Illinois May 5, 1882. Ora Oto was a son of James Putnam and Jane McCullum and was in Champaign County Illinois with here in 1910. James was a son of Thomas Putnam from Vermont and then Vermillion County Illinois.

 

WILLIE G. (GRADY) PUTNAM  Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County

He is 25 GA and is an engineer at a brewery. His wife Shirley Ann Proctor is 23 WI and they have William Jr. 2 WI. He is William Grady Putnam a son of Henry Grady Putnam and Leslie Ann Long from Gordon County Georgia. He was born in Ranger, Gordon County January 21, 1925 and will die in Virginia January 30, 2016 and be buried in the Quantico National Cemetery. Shirley will die in Manassas, Virginia May 15, 1987. He will then marry Louise Martone Brown in Fairfax, Virginia August 5, 1988. She will die January 29, 2016 a day before Willie will die. Willie and both wives are all buried together in Quantico. He must have been in the U. S. Marines for a long time.

 

IDA PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

She is 74 WI and widowed. Ida B. Lorenze was married to Milton Elmer Putman here from when they were married until he died here July 10, 1942. He was a son of George Lewis Putman and Margaret Brooks and was born here May 28, 1872. He married Mary Ann Reitz July 23, 1892. She died and he married Ida October 20, 1900. Ida was born in 1876 and will die here July 8, 1960. Dutch family out of Jefferson County New York and Herkimer County before that.

 

JOHN L. (LELAND) PUTMAN  Sparta, Monroe County

He is 63 WI and his wife Mary E. Blackburn 67 WI. They still have their son Howard Clark Putman 36 WI and his wife Dorothy Elizabeth Walker 34 WI and their daughter Janice Walker 9 WI. Dorothy’s brother Robert McCollough 20 WI is also here. Dorothy McCollough had been married to Harry Eugene Walker earlier. Anyway, John is a son of Isaac Harper Putman and Emma Andrews Smith from Dane County where he has been. New York Poutman/Puttman Dutch family.

 

KENDALL PUTNAM  Oconto Falls, Oconto County

He is 36 WI and his wife Violet Gladys Hyland is 29 WI. They were married here October 31, 1937 and have Constance 9, Susan 6, Mary Ann 4 and Kent H. (Hyland) 1 WI. He is Ralph Kendall Putnam, a son of Russell and Ida Putnam listed next. They were married and living with his folks in 1940. Kendall was born January 12,    1914 and will die in a car accident in February 1955. New England family Massachusetts to Canada.


RUSSELL PUTNAM  Oconto Falls, Oconto County

He is 69 WI and his wife Ida Ann Wolfe is 68 WI. He is an insurance agent. Russell McKinley Putnam is a son of Prescott Henry Putnam from Nova Scotia and his first wife Mary McGaw from De Pare, Brown County Wisconsin. He was born in De Pere November 11, 1880 and will die of a stroke October 24, 1956. He married Ida January 19, 1899. She is a daughter of Mathias Wolfe and Ernestine Bien and was born in Green Bay June 16, 1882 and will die here in January 1956. New England family Massachusetts to Canada.

 

BERNARD H. (HARLAND) PUTNAM  Townsend, Oconto County

He is 31 WI divorced and lodging and out of work. He is a son of Claude William Putnam and Julia Haver from Green Bay, Brown County. He married Larita in 1941  and it didn’t work out. Bernie was born in Milwaukee April 4, 1919. He will die July 15, 1990 in Green Bay and will have a wife Agnes Antoinette Coppersmith at that time. She was previously married to Donald Larkin October 28, 1939. New York Dutch Putman Family.

 

HARRY A. (ARTHUR) PUTNAM  Sugar Camp, Oneida County

He is 66 IA and his wife Rosella ‘Ella’ Goodroad is 64 SD. He is a son of Frank Harrison Putnam and Ida Langdon. Frank was a son of Harrison Putnam (2790) and Permelia Lovering from Bureau County Illinois. I never find his parents. He was born in Black Hawk County Iowa January 7, 1884 and in 1900 was living with his grandparents Ransom and Phoebe Landgon in Civil Bend, Union County South Dakota. He married Ella in 1904 and they were in Sioux City, Iowa in 1910. He is a farmer and they were here in 1930 and in Windsor, Stutsman County North Dakota in 1920. New England family.

 

THOMAS J. PUTMAN  Appleton, Outagamie County

He is 46 WI and Myrtle Zelma Carrow 43 WI and they have Patricia J. 3 WI. He is a car washer at an auto laundry. He is a son of Anton Putman and Jane Thomas from Green Bay, Brown County. Thomas was born there April 14, 1904 and will die August 17, 1976 here in Appleton. He married Myrtle Zelma Carrow October 20, 1945. Myrtle is a daughter of Louis John Carrow and Minna Louise Therese Miller and was born in Oshkosh September 1, 1906 and will die also in Appleton May 2, 2004. His dad Anton Henry Putman is a son of Antone Thomas Puttemanns and Margareta Ostermann and was born in Green Bay February 28, 1882 and will die there October 16, 1953. His dad was from Belgium.

 

ELMER G. (GORDON) PUTNAM  Kimberly, Outagamie County

He is 35 WI and his wife Irene H. Pitsch 29 WI. They were married June 21, 1941 and have Sherilyn A. 7 WI and Donald J.1 WI. Her folks Joseph 62 WI and Magdalena 62 WI Pitsch are with them. Elmer is a son of Claude William Putnam and Julia Haver from Green Bay, Brown County. He was born in Milwaukee April 7, 1916 and will die May 31, 1962 back in Madison, Dane County. Irene was born in Brown County August 19, 1920 and will die in Green Bay April 24, 1965. Interesting Elmer’s sister Lorraine married  William John Pitsch a brother of Irene. Elmer is a mail man for the post office. Elmer was in the Army from December 27, 1945 till December 21, 1946. He missed WWII by 6 months.

 

ARNOLD W. (WILLIAM) PUTNAM  Grafton, Ozaukee County

He is 34 WI single and lodging. In 1940 I had him in Dodge County and locked up in the Wisconsin State Prison. In 1930 he was in Milwaukee living with his married sister Vida Panik. Vida was listed as a granddaughter of George and Mary Putman here in Milwaukee in 1920. No idea what son was her dad, and Arnold never appears before. The 1920 wasn’t indexed very well so he was probably around. A descendant says he was born June 14, 1915. He was convicted of first-degree murder and sent to the Rock County Jail on December 1, 1939. Don’t know how or why he is free now though. He died November 29, 1959 in Green Bay and is buried in the Wisconsin State Prison Cemetery. His death certificate says his folks were George Nelson Putnam and Mary Joubert. His dad would be a son of George Ward Putman and the Mary LaPointe mentioned in Milwaukee. In the 1880, they had a son George age 2 then who would likely be his dad. That George is in Gladstone, Delta County Michigan in 1900 and is married to Margaret Joubert. That’s the only time I find them though. This is a Dutch Putman family out of New York State.

 

HENRY PUTNAM  Mequon, Ozaukee County

He is 56 NJ and his wife Evelyn is 57 OH. He is the Regional Director for the U. S. Department of Agriculture. I can’t find him earlier nor can Ancestry.com I would guess a spelling thing. There wasn’t a Henry age 6 in New Jersey in the 1900 census either. So?????

 

MARTHA L. (LITTLE) PUTMAN  River Falls, Pierce County

She is 83 WI and widowed. Her sister Bertha Ellen Foster is 76 WI. Martha Little Foster was married to William Hutchinson Putnam here from the time they were married here May 21, 1890 till he died here December 24, 1939. William was a son of John Day Putnam and Catherine Lovell, and was with them in St. Croix County in 1860 and 1870 and then here. He was the city treasurer here in River Falls. The sisters were here in 1940. Martha or Mattie was born March 29, 1867 and will die right here next year on December 25, 1951 while drinking Scotch with St. Nick. Bertha will make it till October 1954. They are both daughters of John Cowles Foster and Mary Elizabeth Whipple. New England Putnam family from Connecticut and direct actual descendant of General Israel.

 

ARNOLD PUTNAM  Fifield, Price County

He is 24 WI and his wife Elsie Martha Murnik is 22 WI. Her Folks Andrew and Mollie Murnik were born in Czechoslovakia. They have young Arnold 3 WI and Rodney 2 WI. His brother Royce Richard 17 WI is living with them. He runs his own farm. He is Arnold Edwin Putnam a son of Royce Eugene ‘Roy’ Putnam and Elsie Irene Andres. His dad is listed below. He was born in Park Falls, Price County May 22, 1026 and will die there March 1, 1997. Elsie was born here in Fifield April 22, 1928 and will die here in Park Falls July 6, 2002.

 

ROY (ROYCE) PUTNAM  Fifield, Price County

He is Royce Eugene ‘Roy’ Putnam 43 WI. He is separated from his wife Elsie Andres is 33 WI and their son Arnold Edwin is listed right above. Roy is listed in 1910 in Dovre, Wisconsin and in 1920 with Clara Mapes Putnam who was married to Ephraim Putnam who died about 1896 in Chippewa County as an adopted son. He was adopted by Clara (Mapes) Putnam in 1907, but is a son of Henry Benjamin Hodges and Maria Catrina Arpagus. He is listed with Clara in 1910 in Anson, Chippewa County Wisconsin, and in 1920 in Lake, Price County Wisconsin. He and Elsie are in Park Falls, Price County Wisconsin in 1940. He was born February 15, 1907 in Bradley Lincoln County Wisconsin and adopted shortly after that. He married Elsie August 17, 1925 and will die in Ashland Wisconsin November 16, 1986. Elsie is a daughter of Fred and Lillian Andrus. She was born in Bangor, La Crosse County Wisconsin March 20, 1907 and will die in Price County Wisconsin December 17, 1973. Think they may have gotten back together.

 

ORA E. (EDWIN) PUTMAN  Racine City, Racine County

He is 50 WI and his wife Anna Mandli 33 WI. They were here in 1940 and now have Barbara H. 6 WI and Sally A. 3 WI. He was a car assembler at an automobile company and works at a automobile radiator factory. Ora Edward is a son Edwin or Edward Putman and Matilda Hemple and was born in Green Lake County and was there in 1910 and was here in 1920 and married here in 1930. He was born January 13, 1900 and will die here in Racine October 19, 1971. Anna was born February 18, 1917in Neillsville, Wisconsin, and will die here April 20, 1999. They were married December 29, 1942. Anna’s folks were both born in Denmark. Dutch Putmans from New York State.

 

SYLVIA A. PUTNUM  Racine, Racine County

She is 63 IL and living with her married sister Marie Ellis Skow 65 IL. Sylvia Ellis married Otis Oscar Putnam February 4, 1913 in Clinton, DeWitt County Illinois and was there in 1920 and Peoria, Illinois in 1930 and 1940. Not sure why she is here, but she will return to Peoria and be with Otis till she dies there in October 1976. They are buried together in Clinton, Illinois. Otis is a son of John Devales Putnam from Clinton, DeWitt County. He was born there June 11, 1890. He was there married in 1920 and here in 1930. Putnam family out of Guilford County North Carolina. And yes, they spelled their name Putnum on their gravestone.

 

LAFAYETTE P. PUTMAN  Raymond, Racine County

He is 74 MI. He is widowed and has his own barbershop. He is also listed in Sheboygan same age and lodging. Neither Ancestry or I can find him earlier.

 

BONILYNN & A BUNCH MORE PUTNAMS  Beloit, Rock County

This family is headed by Herbert and Carolyn Smith. Their granddaughter Acenith Ellen Smith was married to Nelson Jay Putnam from here. I don’t know where Nelson is now, but he was in a hospital in Fort Bayard, New Mexico in 1930. In 1930 four of their kids were here and living with their then grandparents Ward and Maggie Smith. Nelson was in the Army I guess and in 1927 was in the National Home for Disabled Soldiers in Milwaukee. He will die here February 19, 1953. In 1940 Acenith was here with three of the oldest kids. Acenith will divorce Nelson as Acenith married Ordie G. Phillips in Winnebago County September 4, 1946. He will die in 1968 and she will marry John Frederick in Las Vegas, Nevada May 3, 1971. Now in 1950, the kids here with Herb and Carolyn are Bonilynn 4 WI and Jacquilyn just born in January and then a grandson Wayne R. 26 WI and his wife Dorothy Ann Kruckenberg 31 M. who are probably the parents. Then there is Janet 25 WI another granddaughter. Then for what it’s worth, Bonilynn will marry David Paugel in Minnehaha, South Dakota July 17, 1968. Anyway, this is a Dutch Putman family out of Onondaga County New York.

 

HOWARD L. PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

He is 42 WI and his wife Grace Minnie Yonker is 27 WI and they have Kenneth Leroy 19 WI, and from Grace’s earlier marriage Lawrence Devay 9 WI and Patricia 7 WI. In 1910 and 1920 he is in Waukesha County with his folks Roy William Putnam and his mom Lena Caroline Brandt in 1910 and then with Roy and wife number 2 Sarah born in Norway. In 1930 he is a soldier in the Panama Canal Zone. In 1940 he is in San Quentin, Marin County California and is a prisoner in the California State Prison for car theft. Seems he got 60 days in Beloit in 1931 for disturbing the peace in Los Angeles. He was born September 17, 1907 and will die in Richland County Wisconsin July 5, 1974. He will be married to an Alice Mae Putman then.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Beloit, Rock County

He is 39 WI and never married. Can’t find him in 1940 or earlier. Writing is so-so, and may not be a Putman/Putnam.

 

NELSON & DENNIS PUTNAM  Beloit, Rock County

Nelson is 6 LA and his brother is 4 WI. They are listed as stepsons of Daniel 26 SD and Bernice 27 IL Hough. Bernice Evalyn Jones was married to the Nelson Putnam Jr.  mentioned above and at home with his mom Acenith here in 1940 at age 19 WI. Nelson and Daniel will take on the last name of Hough now. Anyway, Bernice married Nelson Joseph Putnam in Nottaway, Virginia October 17, 1942 and it didn’t last too long.

 

WALTER E. (EUGENE) PUTMAN  Beloit, Rock County

He is 72 WI and a painting contractor. He is single still. He is a son of Warren Putnam from Waukesha County in 1880 and Walworth County in 1900. He was with Charles Kidder here in Beloit in the 1910 census. He is here in 1920 listed as an adopted son of Charles Kidder who married his mother, Josephine. He was in Los Angeles with Charles Kidder in the 1930. He has been here in Beloit since then, and probably for the rest of his life and I guess will die here. Can’t find any birth or death records.

 

WAYNE R. PUTMAN  Beloit, Rock County

He is 26 WI and listed as a grandson of Herbert and Carolyn Smith. He was here with his widowed mother Acenith Smith in 1940. She remarried in 1946 and left. There is a Jacquelyn Putnam with kids , but I can’t find here earlier. The Smiths are her folks, I guess. Weird entry. The son Wayne I got, but no one else. Probably not Putmans.

 

EDNA M. PUTNAM  Janesville, Rock County

She is 69 WI and widowed. Edna Drew was married to Parker Putnam from here in 1920 and then separated by 1930. She was here with his widowed mother Mary, and Parker was in Freeport, Illinois living in a YMCA there. Parker’s father, Harry Putnam, was from Massachusetts.

 

IVAN PUTMAN  Janesville, Rock County

He is 43 WI WI WI and his wife Dorothy Fern Johnson is 43 and They now have Merlin 17 WI and Jeanette 12 WI. He was single with his folks Ernest Putman and Clara Maude Bangle back in Clark County. He married Dorothy Fern Johnson on September 26, 1926. She wasn’t around in 1930 and he said he was widowed. They got back together a couple years later. Dorothy was born March 30, 1907 and will die here March 3, 1966. Ivan Victor Putman was born April 12, 1906 and died here May 21, 1961. It looks like Dorothy kinda took off for a bit and then came back and will be here forever. He works for the Fisher Auto Body Company here in town as a welder. They made General Motors cars for Chevrolet and Cadillac back then and up through the 1960s. The ones they made were labeled ‘Body by Fisher’ and were very, very well made. Their daughter Loraine Arlene was born October 27, 1927 and will die December 21, 1994. She was here in 1940 and then married Raymond Hanson August 9, 1947. Dutch folks out of Jefferson County New York.

 

JOSEPH PUTMAN  Janesville, Rock County

He is 42 WI and widowed. Gotta be sloppy handwriting. Neither Ancestry or myself can find him any earlier.

 

SHELDON PUTNAM  Janesville, Rock County

He is 39 WI single and he is a patient in the Rock County Mental Country Farm for aged or needy. He is Sheldon Wilcox Putnam, a son of Nelson Jay Putnam and Cora May Hunter from Beloit, Rock County. He was home there in 1920, 1930 and 1940. He will die out in Los Angeles, California August 28, 1972.

 

ARNOLD M. (MORRIS) PUTNAM  Park, Rock County

He is 26 WI and married to Florence King 21 IL and they have Raymond 1 WI. He is a chipper in a recovery machine company. He is a son of James Putnam and Mamie Thompson from Sauk County where he was in 1940. He was born November 29, 1924 and will die in Rock County June 5, 1987.

 

BETTY L. PUTNAM  Perry Go Place, Rock County

She is 17 WI and lives with her remarried mother Norma 40 WI and her husband Raymond Linner 43 MN. She and her brother Kenneth would be 19 now where here in Beloit, Rock County with Norma who had just married Ray. Norma Pearl Fawcett married Howard Leroy ‘Bud’ Putman in 1930. He was a son of William Roy Putman and Lena C. Brandt and was born in Waukesha County September 17, 1907 and will die in Rock County July 5, 1974. Divorced, I guess. Norma was born in Iowa County Wisconsin February 25, 1910 and will die in Juneau County Wisconsin June 22, 1990. She and Raymond Teigen Linner were married in Ogle County Illinois October 26, 1936. They will last it out till they die. Then … Betty will soon marry Charles Steinenger on September 16, 1950 in Winnebago County Illinois.

 

ANNA PUTNAM  Atlanta, Rusk County

She is 74 WI and widowed. She is listed as an aunt with Harry and Mildred Burcalow. Anna Metzger was married to George Arthur Putnam in Mayville, Clark County in 1900 and 1910. They were in Maplehurst, Taylor County in 1920 through 1940. George died there November 17, 1947. Anna will die back in Clark County September 8, 1959. George was a son of Cyrus Ingel Putnam and Harriet Pauline Sanderson. His dad Cyrus was a son of John Wellington Putnam and Minerva Scott, and was born in Watertown, New York February 22, 1835. The family briefly moved to Canada, and then by 1850 were in Winnebago County Illinois. John was a son of Abijah Putnam from New York and a grandson of Tarrant Putnam (342) from Sutton, Massachusetts.

 

JAMES PUTMAN  Lake Delton, Sauk County

He is a building contractor, 66 MI and his wife Mamie Thompson 52 IA. They were here in 1930 and never seen before that. No idea who his folks were. Mamie however is a daughter of Lafayette Thompson and Anna Davis and was born in 1898 and will die October 24, 1975. James was born April 23, 1884 and will die right here November 6, 1964.

 

MELVIN W. (WILLARD) PUTMAN  Lake Delton, Sauk County

He is 21 WI and his wife  Marjorie Burright is 22 WI and they have David W. 4 WI and Harvey L. born September 1949. He is a son of the above James and Mamie and is a carpenter in his dad’s business. Melvin was born May 19, 1928 and will die here August 20, 2000. Marjorie was born December 26, 1927 as a Christmas present a day late

 

MERLE A. (ARTHUR) PUTNAM Bass Lake, Sawyer County

He is 48 WI and his wife Mary Arvilla Chandler is 47 CAN. They were in Salk County in 1940. Merle Arthur Putnam is a son of William Arthur Putman and Fannie Louise Stott from Darlington, Lafayette County where he was born January 20, 1902. He was home there in 1910 and 1920 and married in Mount Horeb, Dane County in 1930 and then Spring Green Village, Sauk County in 1940. His dad William was a son of Theron Putman and Elizabeth Helm from Lafayette County. They were married there February 15, 1860. Theron was a son of Lewis Putman and Abigail Chatfield from Cayuga County in New York. Lewis was a son of Jacob Putman and Sarah Osterhoudt from Montgomery County New York. Dutch Poutman family.

DELLA M. PUTNAM  Red Springs, Shawano County

She is 87 WI and widowed as she was in 1940. Della Mae Putman was married to Frederick Putnam here through 1930 then widowed by 1940. She is a daughter of John Hamilton Putman (New York Dutch) and Basheba Brown (Native American Indian). She will be here on the reservation till she dies November 19, 1958.

 

ELORD PUTNAM  Red Springs, Shawano County

He is 55 WI, his wife Wildie Jourdan is 49 WI. He is a son of Frederick Putnam and Della May Putman from here. Frederick was a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. He was there in 1870, and married to Della in Iowa in 1900. Della is a daughter of John Hamilton Putman (New York Dutch) and Basheba Brown (Indian). Fred and Della were here in 1910 through 1930. Elord married Wildie here November 22, 1916. He is listed as a Native American in 1930, but ‘White’ now.

 

STEPHEN H. (HAMILTON) PUTNAM  Red Springs, Shawano County

He is 57 WI, his wife Thelma Davids 48 WI and they have Pauline 16 WI, Beverly 14 WI, Alice Marie 12 WI, Judith 5 WI and Joseph 4 WI. He first married Averil Abrams November 11, 1919 then they split. He and Thelma were married here in 1927 and were here in 1930 and 1940. It was his second marriage and he had two daughters, Beryl and Virgie, by his first marriage to Arvilla. Both he and Thelma have mixed white and Indian blood. Steve is a son of Frederick Putnam and Della May Putman from here. Fred is a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. He was there in 1870, and married to Della in Iowa in 1900. Della is a daughter of John Hamilton Putman (Dutch) and Basheba Brown (Indian). One of the rare marriages of Putnams and Putmans.

 

WILLARD E. PUTNAM  Red Springs, Shawano County

He is 31 WI and married to Anita Wickham 20 WI. He is of mixed races and she is a Native American Indian. Willard is a son of Elord Putnam and Hildie Hammer who are from here and both of mixed parents. Elord is a son of Frederick Putnam (New England Putnam) and Della May Putman (New York Dutch). Fred is listed as white, the rest as Indians. They were here in 1920 and 1930. This whole County is pretty much an Indian Reservation and has been for ages. Fred is a son of Stephen Putnam and his first wife Caroline Wheeler from Winnebago County Illinois. He was there in 1870, and married to Della in Iowa in 1900. Della is a daughter of John  Hamilton Putman (Dutch) and Basheba Brown (Indian). Fred and Della were here in 1910 and 1920.

 

LAFAYETTE PUTNAM  Sheboygan, Sheboygan County

He is 74 MI widowed and lodging. He is also listed in Raymond, Racine County where he has a barbershop. No ideas from Ancestry as to who or where he is from. Probably not a Putman at all.

 

RAYMOND PUTNAM  Sheboygan, Sheboygan County

He is 49 WI and his wife Elda Martha Liebner is 47 WI. Raymond Walter Putnam is a son of Arthur Putnam and Martha George from Milwaukee. He was born there June 15, 1899 and was single there up through 1920 and then married here in 1930. He is the owner of a radiator repair shop. He will die here August 25, 1974. Elda was born August 14, 1902 and will die here August 29, 1978. She is a daughter of Charles G. and Anna M. Liebner from Ozaukee County. New England line from New Hampshire to Washington County New York and here.

 

ELMER E. (EUGENE) PUTMAN  Hudson, St. Croix County

He is 39 WI WI WI and a game warden for the state conservation department. His wife Irene Ethel Shaffer in 38 WI. Elmer Eugene is a son of Jacob Roswell Putman and Margaret Young from Sparta, Monroe County. He was born there April 27, 1910 and will die in Rice County Minnesota July 25, 1992. Irene is a daughter of George Dunn Sheffer and Jessie Newland and was born December 31, 1910. She will be widowed and die in Rice County Minnesota September 20, 2005. They were married in Sparta June 26, 1929 and were there in 1930 and 1935. They were in Vernon County in 1940 working for the conservation department there too. Like everyone in Sparta, this is a Dutch Putman line out of New York State.

 

LEAH PUTMAN  Darien, Walworth County

She is Leah Rockwell Putman 53 WI and widowed. She has a son Phillip C. Putnam 13 WI, and a lodger. She was married to Clyde M. Putman, son of James Monroe Putman from here. He was here with his dad in 1930 and would be 56 if around. In 1930 Clyde was living with his dad. Then I guess he took over the house and his dad moved in with his son Roy and was here in 1940. Leah says she was in the same house in 1935 and owned it.

 

GLENN PUTMAN  Sharon, Walworth County

He is 55 WI and his wife Martha Kramer 57 WI. He is Glenn Clark Putman a son of James Monroe Putman and Etta Ann Hollister from Darien, Walworth County. He was born there and married to Martha there in 1930 and they were in Rock County in 1935 and 1940. His dad James is a son of Frederick and Jane Putman from here, then McHenry County Illinois and Montgomery County New York before that. Martha Kramer had married Chester Rockwell February 27, 1933. They divorced and she married Glenn in McHenry County Illinois in 1919. Martha will die right here March 1, 1961. Glenn was born in Wisconsin April 25, 1896 and will die in Burnet County Texas December 16, 1986. He will marry Earldine Correthers on June 4, 1961.  Dutch Putman family out of New York.

 

LEO PUTMAN  Sharon, Walworth County

He is 39 WI WI WI and is a tool grinder at a diesel shop. His wife Earldine Correthers is 38 IL and they have Earldine 9 IL. They were in Chicago in 1930 and 1940. He is Leo Frederick Putman a son of James Monroe Putman and Etta Hollister from Walworth, Wisconsin. He was there through 1920 and then Illinois. Leo was born July 20, 1900 and will die in Rock County Wisconsin August 30, 1987. Earldine was born April 17, 1902 and will die September 14444, 1989. He and Earldine will split. She will marry Glenn Putman listed above on June 4, 1961. Leo will marry Audrey Mae Ganser here May 14, 1954. Dutch Putman family from Montgomery County New York.

 

MARVIN R. (RUSSELL) PUTNAM  West Bend, Washington County

He is 42 WI and his wife Mary Ann Trowbridge is 44 WI and they have James 15 WI, Thomas 13 WI and a couple of roomers. They were in St. Cloud, Fond du Lac County in 1935 and in Plymouth, Sheboygan County in 1930. He is a ‘trouble man’ for the electric company. I think ‘service repairman’ is a more reasonable title. He is a son of Russell McKinley Putman and Ida Agnes Wolfe from Oconto County. He was born there February 15, 1908 and will die in Weber, Wisconsin March 21, 1963. New England family Massachusetts to Canada to here. Mary Ann was born November 30, 1905 and will die here June 7, 2005.

 

CLAUDE R. (ROBERT) PUTNAM  Waukesha, Waukesha County

He is 61 MI and is a patient in the U. S. Veterans Hospital with tuberculosis. He is a son of William and Amanda Putman from Ogemaw County Michigan. He was home there in 1910 and single in Detroit in 1920 and then Rose, Ogemaw County in 1930 and Alpina County Michigan in 1940. He is married to Laverta Thompson. He was in WWI. He was born December 31, 1888 and will die shortly on September 30, 1950. Dutch family from New York State and then Canada.

 

LEONARD A. (ALLEN) PUTNAM  Waukesha, Waukesha County

He is 30 WI and his wife Carol G. is 26 WI and they have Anita Mae 2 WI. He is a son of Frank Allen Putnam and Cora Mae Bell from here in Waukesha. He was born here in Waukesha December 14, 1919 and will die August 27, 2005 in Pima County Arizona. He was single at home here in 1940.

 

MARGARET W. PUTNAM  Waukesha, Waukesha County

She is 75 WI and widowed as she has been since 1920. She is living with her married daughter Esther 37 WI and her husband Emmett J. Shuff 46 IN. Margaret Wussaw is the widow of George Ward Putman. She and Esther were with him in Oconomowoc in 1900 and 1910, and she was living with the Shuffs here in 1920 after being separated or getting divorced. He died here in 1921. She was here in 1930 and 1940. Dutch family from New York State.

 

SETH N. (NARE) PUTNAM  Waukesha, Waukesha County

He is 39 WI and his wife Mildred Norma Vogl 34 WI and they have Nancy 11 WI and Betty A. 8 WI. He is a son of Giles Henry Putman and Emma Hart Shaw from here. Giles was a son of Gilbert Putnam and Catherine Nare and was born in Sheboygan. They were in Waupaca County in 1940. Seth was born February 25, 1911 and will die in Juneau County Wisconsin January 1, 1980. I’m sure he died couple of days before that, but with Christmas and all they put it off till 1980. Dutch family out of Montgomery County then Herkimer County New York.

 

JOHN H. (HENRY) PUTMAN  Poy Sippi, Waushara County

He is 33 WI and his wife Helen M. Sternitske is 33 WI as well. They now have a daughter Betty M. 7 WI. He is John Henry Putman the son of Ernest Wesley Putman and Clara Maude Bangle from Mentor, Clark County in 1920 where he was born March 24, 1917. His dad died in 1927, and in 1930 he was with his remarried mother Clara who married Clyde Barr and was in Rock County. He married Helen May 27, 1939 in Borth, Waushara County. She was born in Poy Sippi July 7, 1916 and will die in Oshkosh, Winnebago County July 11, 1978. He will also die in Oshkosh April 9, 1972. His dad Ernest was a son of John Putman who was a son of Henry Putman and Elizabeth Emhoff from Jefferson County New York and then in Sparta, Monroe County Wisconsin. Dutch family originally from Montgomery County New York.

 

ROBERT A. (ALONZO) PUTMAN  Menasha, Winnebago County

He is 43 WI and his wife Inez Edith Deda is 38 WI and they have a daughter Jill 17 WI. He is an artist in a paper mill and will become art director for American Can Company. He is Robert Alonzo Putman a son of Alonzo Sylvester Putman and Lucretia Catherine Johnson and was born in Sturgeon Bay, Door County January 3, 1907. His dad was from Kane County Illinois and Fulton County New York before that. New York Dutch Putman family. He married Inez in Waukegan, Illinois April 2, 1932. She is a daughter of Royal Ezra Deda and Pauline Kott and was born in Kewaunee, Wisconsin August 27, 1911 and will die here in Menasha July 6, 2003. Robert will die in Marshfield, Wisconsin July 13, 1980.

 

JACK D. (DAVID) PUTMAN  Neenah, Winnebago County

He is 36 WI and his wife Greta Somia Seaquist is 31 WI and they have David L. 11 MN and Daniel J. 6 WI. He does machine maintenance at a paper box factory. They were in Sister Bay, Door County in 1940 where he was in the Merchant Marines. He is a son of Herbert G. Putman and Ella Larson from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Then they were in Chicago in 1920 and 1930 and Jack or John here was in Wilmette just outside Chicago in 1935. His dad was a son of Alonzo Sylvester Putman and Lucretia Johnson from Kane County Illinois and Fulton County New York before that. Dutch Putman family.

 

CORA PUTNAM  Oshkosh, Winnebago County

She is 58 WI and now divorced. She has Lorna 22 WI with her still. They were here in 1940. Cora Amanda Fink was married to George Clinton Putnam here in 1920 and 1930. George is a son of Frederick H. Putnam and Cynthia Eldridge and was born in Waushara County February 10, 1884 and was with the family in Wood County in 1900 and then here by 1910. He married Cora here December 24, 1910. Cora is a daughter of John Henry Fink and Amelia Steuben and was born in Waushara County March 18, 1892 and will die here in Oshkosh June 24, 1969. George will die here February 10, 1963. Family is out of Winchester, New Hampshire then Lewis County New York then out here. New Englanders.

 

GEORGE C. PUTMAN  Oshkosh, Winnebago County

He is 63 WI and his wife Helen Totz. is 50 WI. This sure looks like George Clinton Putnam who was here married to Cora Fink from 1910 till 1930, and then they divorced and she was here with the kids in 1940. No clue where he was, but in 1930 he was 44 WI so the age is okay now at 63. He married Helen right here in Oshkosh May 8, 1948.
